Speaker 1 (00:00):
Old Brian here with you graspit backt there behind the
Glass Short Show tonight, as we've got the Rockies Rocky
Spring training baseball first coverage. We'll start about seven thirty
tonight right here on KAWA Short Show tonight, but Pat show,
we got Chris thomasin coming up bottom of the hour.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
You guys, we'll stay around for that.

Speaker 1 (00:19):
And then now Alan Roach gonna join us seven to five.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
He's got a cool new, cool new product, cool.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
New thing out there. We wanted to have a chat
with him about, and I want to talk to him
about some of other things like maybe getting mife waste
in the Madden video games. Whatever whatever I can do
to grease the wheels on that with Alan Roach, well,
we'll see. That's that's exactly what the people have been demanding.
What they need more Benjamin all Bright in their video games.
Five six six nine zero is a text line, you
guys want to get involved in the conversation. With quite

(00:46):
a bit of news coming out today, Juwan Johnson confirmed
what we had reported that the Denver Broncos were indeed
after him to sign him. He ultimately went back to
New Orleans after a conversation with Kellen Moore, a New
Saints head coach.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
Kellen More ultimately went back there.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
Broncos, from what I understand, had a plan to sign
both Jawan Johnson and Evan Ingram, and the idea would
have been to sort of create, uh, two guys that
can sort of do a little bit of mismatch type stuff,
a lot more twelve personnel than perhaps Sean had Sean

(01:26):
Payton had previously run. But from what I understand, that
was sort of the plan, and ultimately both guys wanted
to kind of be the guy, and Jawan Johnson wound
up going back to New Orleans and the Broncos wound
up rolling with Evan Ingram. Ingram, who doesn't really play
a lot of in line is probably and I know

(01:46):
he posted the joker stuff and all that, but and
maybe maybe he is given that role, but he's not
been used that way throughout his career. Throughout his career,
he's really just been a heavy slot guy. And you know,
when he moves in line whatever, you know there's some
trickery coming. You know that he's you know, when he's
on the field, it's it's going to be a pass
play that kind of thing. So that was one of

(02:06):
those things that as much as everybody wants to keep
you know, banging the table on that joker role, I'm
not really sure that Evan Ingram is is that dude
so much as he just is kind of a you know,
a heavy slot mismatch guy out there in terms of size.

Speaker 2 (02:23):
When when you bring him onto the field.

Speaker 1 (02:24):
And the spotter is saying, okay, they're bringing in this package,
you know what you're getting out of him. This isn't
a Taysom Hill situation where you have no idea if
he's playing quarterback, half back, full back, h back, you know,
f y what you know?

Speaker 2 (02:38):
What is he?

Speaker 1 (02:38):
Whatever it is that the Taysom Hill would would play,
this isn't one of those type situations with Evan Ingram.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
And so, you know, I.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
Think, uh as as we as we get more into it,
we'll get better clarity on what it is that he's
actually gonna do. But throughout his career he's really just
been a heavy slot guy. And so that that's one
of those things that I think interests me when I
look at coverage of this, when I look at at
some of the coverage that's been out there, you know,

(03:07):
over the over the last few days. When you got
the joker, we got to listen. I'm like, I, you know,
I don't know. I mean, he's he's six four five,
you know, in terms of size, but he's really just
a just a big slot guy and that's sort of
what he's done. He's had one really really good season
where they spammed a ton of targets to him and
then tried to let him create after the catch.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
It was back in twenty twenty three.

Speaker 1 (03:30):
Obviously at the hamstring injury week one last year, and
that really kind of set him back for for the
season last year wound up only finishing with like forty
seven catches, three sixty five in a touchdown. The other
thing that interests me, I think about the end of
Evan Ingram. You know, portion of this is he has

(03:52):
not been a red zone guy for the teams that
he's been on. Outside of his rookie year, he just
really has not been a red zone guy.

Speaker 2 (04:03):
Evan Ingram has long been a guy that.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
They used between the twenties, but he has just not
been a red zone target for teams. He averages outside
of his rookie season, he sees a three touchdown a
year guy, And I mean I find that fascinating that
for a guy of his size, for a guy of
his you know, air quotes, mismatchability. You're talking about a

(04:31):
guy who just has not been a red zone guy.
Three touchdowns a year. I've did series. He had six
touchdowns his rookie season and then he's averaged three touchdowns
a year every season.

Speaker 2 (04:43):
Sat that literally exactly three touchdowns a season.

Speaker 1 (04:47):
One of the things I will say is that he
has gotten carries before people have talked about that portion
of it. He has. He has sixteen carries throughout his
career for ninety three yards and a touchdown. But he's
been on a declining yards per reception for years. And
the outlier would be the twenty twenty two season where
he average ten and a half you know, perception his

(05:08):
first year in Jacksonville.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
But beyond that, I mean, he's been on declining.

Speaker 1 (05:12):
Yards per reception since the second year in league twelve
eight ten six ten four eight nine eight four seven eight.
You know, he's just been a guy who's who's had
So I'm hoping that there is something of a career
resurgence with Sean Payton. I'm hoping that they're going to
use him, perhaps in more creative ways that he's been
used last couple of years. But I sort of struggled

(05:34):
a little bit with this idea that he's the air
quotes choker, because when he's on the field, you're you know,
when he's coming out there, there's no spot of that's saying, okay,
that's our tight end.

Speaker 2 (05:43):
They're going in line.

Speaker 1 (05:44):
You know, he's he's either like an off the line
y or you know, or an afft. You know, he's
not he's not an inline guy, and so you sort
of know what's going on when he's out there. Five
six six nine zero is the text line. A lot
of uh text coming in already at several people. If
someone nine says, uh, Nick and Grant, what do you

(06:06):
guys get from waffle house? So we'll have to Nick's
not here, but we'll get Grant's waffle house order at
some point then I know, nine, Ben, I know. Predicting
a draft is always a game of guessing, and you'll
like predicting these things because people use these things against you.
But since you're insider, how many of my mock draft
would you predict become Broncos?

Speaker 2 (06:28):
And you gave me an over under four.

Speaker 1 (06:29):
Uh, and then he lists out Trey Amos, Trayvon Henderson,
Mason Taylor, Omar Norman Lotte, Jeff Bassa, Jalen Conyers, Lynn
Lequin Allen.

Speaker 2 (06:40):
You know, I see one name on there I think
is a.

Speaker 1 (06:45):
I think it's a target, and a couple of names
on there that, you know, maybe if they happen to
be there, I would say the under a four there
for sure, I see three names that are probably if
I had to guess, I would say two of these names.
But I three possibles. I guess if we're playing spades,
I would say two in a possible.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
Just put that out there.

Speaker 1 (07:07):
Hey, one six. So if they were going for both
tight ends and free agency, does that mean the Broncos
might look at a tight end the draft? Well, yes,
I do believe that the Broncos will look at a
tight end the draft, and I do believe it'll be
someone with more inline capability. I've mentioned the name several times.
I'll mention it again. LSC's Mason Taylor. Keep your eye
on him. Probably a day two guy, early day two guy.

(07:28):
And I really think that's somebody that would fit more
in with what they do. I mean, he definitely has
the receiving ability, but he can play in line, and.

Speaker 2 (07:39):
I think anybody that's able to do both of.

Speaker 1 (07:41):
Those is a plus in these situations, I think, and
I put it on Twitter earlier, I think in an
ideal world, the Broncos would you know, sign a I
don't know, a JK. Dobbins out of free agency, draft
and Omari and Hampton at twenty if he happened to
land there and then get Mason Taylor in round two,
I think I think that would be like a dream
type scenario.

Speaker 2 (08:02):
Whether that happens.

Speaker 1 (08:03):
I don't expect Hampton to be there at twenty, so
whether that happens or not, you know whatever. But I
think in an ideal world, that kind of scenario would
be in line with what sort of what they were thinking.
The prophet asks if if our feels like our tian
room got better, I mean, yeah, you know, I think
having Evan Ingram in there is is a plus.

Speaker 2 (08:25):
Ad.

Speaker 1 (08:26):
I just don't think that people celebrating what it is
that they think he brings to the table have actually
watched the guy over the last half decade, because he's
not you.

Speaker 2 (08:36):
Know, he's just not that dude.

Speaker 1 (08:37):
He's he's a heavy slot I mean, that's what he is.

Speaker 2 (08:39):
He's a heavy slot guy.

Speaker 1 (08:41):
And that presents mismatched problems, you know, because I mean,
if you've got a guy who's six four to two thirty,
you've got to cover that guy with a corner.

Speaker 2 (08:50):
Uh, you know, the average corner.

Speaker 1 (08:51):
Size out there these days is what five, five, ten,
one ninety, you know, Patzertan is the is the exception,
not the rule. So it's it's tough to find guys
that can match up with you know, that that size
and that speed. You can't really put a linebacker on
him because he's going to outrun him. And and if
you put a corner on him, well, he's just gonna

(09:11):
out physical. So the idea there is that you've created
some sort of mismatch with you know, with with defensive personnel.
But in terms of you know, alignment or bringing him
on the field, I mean, he's not.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
Really a good or or even very willing blocker.

Speaker 1 (09:26):
And he's not somebody that has War twelve in line,
like seventy eighty percent of his snaps come come not
in line. So it is what it is. But at
the same time, do I think that the overall roster
I mean has improved. Yeah, I think adding him helps.
He's a pass catching weapon ideally, and so I think

(09:48):
adding him certainly is a plus. Add five six, six
nine zeros of text line. You guys want to get
in the involved in the conversation, obviously, marsh madness underway
the first four game in Dayton. Is there any of
these initial teams that we think can win their next game?

(10:10):
Grant I believe here says I believe. He says he
thinks he likes Texas to beat Illinois. I you know,
North Carolina was somebody we were talking about that earlier.
I think I'd show me the money and that's one that.
Do I believe they belong there?

Speaker 3 (10:23):
No?

Speaker 2 (10:23):
Do I still think they're gonna win? Uh could win
their first game? Yeah?

Speaker 1 (10:26):
I do.

Speaker 2 (10:27):
Actually, you know, we'll see.

Speaker 1 (10:29):
Obviously they got to get past Antyao State first and
we'll see how that shakes out for them. Several We
did get the brackets done last night. We'll get those
I think posted up here.

Speaker 4 (10:40):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (10:41):
Directly, I had Florida Houston as a as a final,
with Florida winning at all A little chalky, I know,
and as a matter of fact, my bracket felt very
chalky this year. I did have a few upsets, but
i I it felt very chalky overall. So well, we'll
see five six sixty nine zeros a text line. When

(11:02):
some people already called me a wet blanket for my
takes on Evan Ingram, I'm just trying to be I'm
just trying to be honest with you, guys. Man Like,
I think he's a value add to the room. I
do think having a Evan Ingram is a plus ad
to the room.

Speaker 2 (11:15):
But I also think.

Speaker 1 (11:16):
That there's a lot of guys out there who the
name outweighs the production, the name outweighs what it is
that they bring to the table. I think, I think
Evan Ingram is is a plus ad to the room.
But I also think that he's not a thousand yards
six touchdown guy, which a lot of people seem to
think that that's realistic. I mean, he's never been a

(11:39):
thousand yard guy in his career. Two years ago he
had nine to sixty three that was his highest yards total,
and that was when they spamed him with one hundred
and fourteen targets, which is almost double what he what
he normally gets in terms of targets on a season
in most seasons, and like I said, his yards perception
has been on a decline since twenty eighteen. You know,
he had twelve point eight eight and then ten point six,

(12:01):
ten point four, eight point nine, and he jumped back
up in that first year in Jacksonville to ten point
five and then back to eight point four and then
of course seven point eight last year. And you know,
he's never been a guy that that's caught a lot
of touchdowns. He had sixty his rookie season, but ever
since that has been three three one three four four one.

Speaker 2 (12:20):
You know, he averages three touchdowns a year.

Speaker 1 (12:21):
He's just not a guy that's uh that's heavily targeted
in the red zone and in the end zone. Does
that change under Sean Payton? I hope, so, you know,
I hope the players. Sean Payton, to his credit, is
a guy who's gotten four All Pro seasons out of
the tight end position as a head coach with three
different tight ends. And that's that's not for nothing. That's

(12:43):
that is that is an accomplishment. That is a feather dary.
If you get you know, you get multiple All pros
all pro seasons out of one position with different guys
running it. That says something about your system, That says
something about what it's able.

Speaker 2 (12:55):
To do for that position. So I you know, you
don't want to take anything away there. Evan Ingram. I
just again, I think he's a value ad.

Speaker 1 (13:03):
If you look at him and you think of him
through the lens of a wide receiver, I think that's
a value ad as a receiving weapon. But I think
if you're looking at him as a joker or as
strictly as a tight end, I don't want I think
it does a disservice because I don't think he's really
a tight end. He's just a heavy slot guy, and
that's that's kind of what he's been his whole career.
Maybe they use him differently here, maybe they have a

(13:24):
different plan for him here, but throughout his career he
is he has not really been that guy.

Speaker 2 (13:36):
So you know, we'll see. But I don't I'm not
trying to be down about him or anything like that.

Speaker 1 (13:44):
It's just it's one of those things where I'm like, hey,
this is this is the reality of what he has been.
I don't want to limit him to that, but this
is the reality of what he's been five.

Speaker 2 (13:54):
Sixty sixty nine zero is the text line.

Speaker 1 (13:58):
Somebody's asking me if I can mention Bikini our wash
company tonight. I think we're in reference to the movies
we're talking about last night.

Speaker 2 (14:04):
Well there you go. You just got your mention three
point five.

Speaker 1 (14:08):
Hey, been any news on Zach Allen and Nick Benito?
Are they both getting new deals? Can we afford to
give them both the money they want? Are we in
danger of losing either one? They can afford to give both?

Speaker 2 (14:19):
We have all that.

Speaker 1 (14:21):
Again, I don't think those are coming right this second,
but both those they anticipate both of those getting done.

Speaker 2 (14:28):
They do, so I would.

Speaker 1 (14:31):
Not say that we're in danger of losing either one
of them. You know, Zach Allen was a guy that
Vance Joseph brought over with him from Arizona.

Speaker 2 (14:39):
Is a key cog. And what this Broncos defense has
been able to do.

Speaker 1 (14:44):
Nick Bevenito, the homegrown edge has really turned into more
of a complete player, and I think they want to
reward that.

Speaker 2 (14:51):
Obviously, Coop got the deal last year.

Speaker 1 (14:53):
My expectation on that would be both those guys get
paid and you continue to try to develop Ellis and
ultimately he would usurp Jonathan Cooper who got paid last
year and make that contract superfluous and you know, and
that kind of thing, and you continue to homegrow guys.
But that might be a couple of years down the road.
Alis is a guy they have very high hopes for

(15:16):
and I thought that he flashed in limited playtime last year,
and we'll see if he's able to able to continue
growing into the role that they had envisioned for him.

Speaker 5 (15:29):
Last night, the shorthanded Nuggets beat the Warriors, Tracy Morgan
says he's okay.

Speaker 1 (15:40):
I don't know if you guys saw this yor not.
Tracy Morgan.

Speaker 2 (15:43):
There were some pictures some video caught him vomiting on
the Madison Square Garden court.

Speaker 1 (15:54):
Morgan the Knicks one one sixteen ninety five over the
Miami Heat. It was delayed for about ten minutes after
Tracy Morgan, who was sitting on the front row, got
sick and vomited onto the court.

Speaker 2 (16:05):
Longtime after and comedian sitting.

Speaker 1 (16:07):
Courtside Madison Square Garden was eventually taken out of the
arena in a wheelchair. Morgan posted a photo on his
Instagram from the hospital today this morning, saying he's doing
okay and had food poisoning, thank Madison Square Garden staff
for their assistance, and shouted out the crew that had
to clean it up. He also added, fairly jokingly, more

(16:31):
importantly than nicks er, now I want to know when
I throw up on the court, so maybe I'll have
to break it out again in the playoffs. Morgan, who
spent years on Saturday at Live and probably best known
for that and then being on thirty Rock.

Speaker 2 (16:46):
He's fifty six years old.

Speaker 1 (16:47):
He's had significant health issues, including undergoing a kidney transplant
in twenty ten. He was in a coma for a
couple of weeks after a car crash in twenty fourteen.
Morgan is known to have diabetes as well. Uh, it's
good that he's he's doing okay and doing a lot better.
But yeah, it was certainly a strange moment last night
when you had mean pictures floating around the internet of

(17:15):
Tracy morganting Morgan projectile vomiting on the court and in
the in that picture, it's it's sort of funny because
in that picture you look and there's two young ladies
that are also sitting just off to their left if
you're looking at the picture, be far right, who seem
oblivious to the entire thing. They're on the They're at
the front part of the court, and they seem oblivious
to the fact that there is there's a you know,

(17:39):
a giant pile of a giant puddle of vomit.

Speaker 2 (17:41):
Right there on the court.

Speaker 1 (17:45):
Now gets beat Golden State last night one fourteen one five,
despite the fact that they're Joker, Nicola Jokic, Jamal Murray,
Christian Brown all out in that game.

Speaker 2 (17:59):
Aaron Gordon led then now Gets with thirty eight points.

Speaker 1 (18:06):
Russell Westbrook managed to get the triple double twelve points,
twelve boards, sixteen assists.

Speaker 2 (18:14):
Michael Porter Junior chipped in twenty one and ten.

Speaker 1 (18:18):
Hunter Tyson, who started at the guard position, chipped in
nine points and seven boards. Other players that got a
little bit of run we know Cankar got a little
bit of run last night, Spencer Jones, Jalen Pickett and
Zeke Naji Nagiet Pickett only got ten minutes each. We

(18:39):
got forty minutes out of Russ Westbrook and Michael Porter,
thirty five out of Peyton Watson who had thirteen points
of his own, and I thought pretty good performances for
a team that was that shorthanded. Cankar five points but
the eight boards in twenty three minutes twenty four minutes
of relief.

Speaker 2 (19:02):
They had PJ.

Speaker 1 (19:03):
Hall, DeAndre Jordan, and Dario Sartz available if needed, but
none of them got in. The players that were out
Christian Brown, the Ron Holmes, Nicole Jokus, Jamal Murray, and
Julian Strawther. On the Warrior's side, Jimmy Butler led all

(19:25):
scores with twenty three. Your Little Warrior scores with twenty three.
Steph Curry had twenty of his own, Gary Payton and
Kamingo on the bench eighteen and thirteen. The Quinton post
played just eight minutes twenty six seconds and got the
four points down low. Moses Moody, Kevin Looney, Luy Santos,

(19:47):
and Buddy Heald also got minutes in that one, although
healed in twenty one minutes, did almost nothing at two points.
And I don't know, does this give you more confidence
the Nuggets that they were able to do this without?
Yeah right, hell yeah, he said with that mustache.

Speaker 2 (20:08):
Maybe you should be the one wearing flannel. Yeah, I
cleaned it up for you. Today. There it is. Yeah,
you get rid of the beers, just the stash. You're
gonna starting to look too white, trashy. My appilation roots
were coming out.

Speaker 1 (20:19):
Oh we got Chris thomasin the Denver Gazette coming up
next to this.

Speaker 2 (20:23):
Tobroncos Country to night right here, O, getway, welcome back
to it.

Speaker 1 (20:31):
Broncos Country tonight, bensmin alright here with you, Grant Smith
as well, short show tonight as we got Rockies baseball
coverage come up here at seven point thirty right here
on Koway. We were right out to the Kai Collaspil hotline though,
and bring out our guy from the Denver Is that
Chris thomasin?

Speaker 2 (20:46):
Chris, how you doing this evening?

Speaker 4 (20:48):
Hey Joe, Wow, thanks for having me on.

Speaker 2 (20:50):
Always great to have you on.

Speaker 1 (20:51):
Chris. You know, the Broncos kicked off free agency and
a pretty hot streak there.

Speaker 2 (20:56):
Man, you got DJ Jones back.

Speaker 1 (20:57):
We weren't sure that was gonna happen. You turn around,
you had a couple of other Niners there and Hufanga
and Drake Greenlaw.

Speaker 2 (21:04):
You go ahead to get Evan Ingram.

Speaker 1 (21:06):
Do you think the Broncos are done and you think
they might have another move.

Speaker 2 (21:09):
Still lurking out there in free agency.

Speaker 4 (21:12):
You know, it's kind of interesting. This s Island is
killing me. I keep sitting around waiting for some move
because you know, usually they are a few maybe minor
signings or what have you that sprinkle in, but they
haven't done anything here. And you know, about a week
since Evan Ingram committed, well last Wednesday, I guess he committed.

(21:37):
So yeah, it's gonna be interesting. You know, they still
have a little bit of salary cap money, they still
have some of their own free agents. You know that
they potentially could re sign little Jordan Humphrey, Michael Burton.
But I'm sure they're lurking and they're probably got their
eyes and some guys and they're waiting for the prices

(21:58):
to go down.

Speaker 1 (22:00):
Chris Thomason from the Denver Gazette. You know several people
I get asked multiple times a day whether the Broncos
be interested in bringing in a veteran running back. There's
several out there, you know, obviously Nick Chubb. I think
the one that probably most intrigues me is JK.

Speaker 2 (22:12):
Dobbins.

Speaker 1 (22:13):
What do you think about the possibility of the Broncos
maybe getting him on a very cheap, very manageable free
agent deal.

Speaker 4 (22:20):
You know, it's certainly possible. But you look at this draft.
It's so deep at running back that they can get,
you know, one quality back and maybe even two in
the draft. And you've got to kind of look at
the roster situation too. I mean, you figure that Julia

(22:41):
McLoughlin and dri Estimay are both going to make this
fifty three and then a rookie day draft would be so,
you know, do you want to bring in a veteran
Then all of a sudden you got four backs and
usually you just keep three on the roster. So maybe
from that standpoint, they're just waiting to see what they
can come up with in the draft.

Speaker 2 (23:03):
Entirely possible.

Speaker 1 (23:04):
The draft is something that a lot of people are
speculating about right now. It used to be all these
mock drafters had Colston Loveland there at twenty. It seems
to have been a shift, I guess over the last
couple of weeks as the mic drafters all now favor
Omari and Hampton to the Denver Broncos. Not one hundred
percent sure Hampton's going to be there, But what do
you like or what do you think about rather that fit.

Speaker 4 (23:25):
Yeah, I think. I mean obviously, if somehow asked Gent
falls to twenty, I mean, they'll take less than twenty
seconds to pick him. And Hampton, who you brought up,
is an intriguing option. I mean, he's definitely the number
two back in this class. But if they don't want
to take him a twenty or you know, Gent's gone,

(23:49):
I mean they can draft a running back, you know,
later in the draft. I mean you got Cam Scattaboo
Arizona State, Caleb Johnson Iowa, Brishard Smith, smu those were
all guys they talked to at the combine. Of course,
you got the Ohio State duo of Traveon Henderson and

(24:10):
Quinn Shawn Judkins. And you know, really they got a
chance pretty much just to take the best athlete available
because they feel he needs as you well know, at
tight end, safety and linebacker. So you know, maybe they
go with a big guy like Kenneth Grant or Walter
Nolan out of Mississippi kind of you know, looking down

(24:32):
the road, because even though they re signed DJ Jones,
he's thirty and you're not going to play forever. And
Malcolm Roach, they like him a lot, but he becomes
a free agent after the season, so they have a
lot of options.

Speaker 1 (24:46):
Really, yeah, I sort of sort of swipe my next
question there was I was going to ask about the big
fellows down there. The other component to that, I think
is the John Franklin Myers thing, obviously on the last
portion of his deal, and I think everybody saw like
the tweets, you know, where he was kind of looking
around and everybody else getting hat and all that kind
of stuff. You know, how serious do you think the
Broncos are about the possibility of drafting a big fellow

(25:07):
on the defensive line there early?

Speaker 4 (25:09):
Yeah, I think it's certainly a very reasonable possibility. I mean,
those guys are tough to find, and then when you
look for him in free agency, they cost a ton
of money. And they've got several key guys up for
contract extensions. He touched upon John Franklin Myers. Obviously Zach

(25:30):
Allen is up for a contract extension. He's gonna want
a lot of money. So two of those guys on
the defensive line, and of course you got Nick Benito
and they're pretty deep at outside linebacker. But if they
think his price tag is going to be insane and
there's some great outside linebackers sitting there. I mean, you

(25:50):
can afford to take best athlete available and same a
wide receiver. I mean Courtland Sutton. They you know, talked
about at the COMBA and they want to sign and
him do an extension. But we'll have to see if
that comes about.

Speaker 1 (26:04):
Talking with Chris Chris Thomason from the Denver Gazette, you know,
it's funny because one of the things that Sean Baden
in that front office have reiterated to all of us,
you know, in medias, how much they love their receiving corp.
Actually they love the young guys. They love that receiving core.
They do want to bring Courtland back, but they love
that receiving core that they have there. And you know,
it's funny because I kept pushing back on the idea.
There was some of the national guys that were claiming

(26:24):
we were in on Debo or in on Cooper Cup,
which of course was nonsense.

Speaker 2 (26:27):
But as we look at this, could.

Speaker 1 (26:31):
The Broncos maybe be in the market for a receiver,
either a lower tier free agent or somebody in the draft.
Do you think that they look to maybe add another
body to that room, even though you've got Ingram who's
sort of a tight end heavy slot, and then you've
got Sherfield, who's the special teams guy but also receiver.

Speaker 4 (26:50):
Yeah, I see it definitely as a possibility. Free agency,
I think you hit it on the head. I mean,
they work and even come close to thinking about paying
a guy Deebo Samuel or Cooper Cup money. But if
the price goes to have on somebody and there's a
free agent wide receiver still sitting there, I mean certainly
they could jump at it. And yeah, it's not beyond

(27:14):
the realm of possibility that they go with a receiver
in the first round. I mean, you got a guy
Luther Burton the third out of Missouri who certainly could
be a possibility. Then he got the guy out of
Ohio state, Mika Buca. So yeah, words keeping an eye on.
There's no doubt.

Speaker 1 (27:35):
Talking again with Chris Thomason from the Denver is that
crisis as we look at this Broncos team last year,
we're talking about a team.

Speaker 2 (27:42):
That people didn't believe in.

Speaker 1 (27:44):
Whether that was the lack of belief in bo Nicks,
whether it was a lack of belief just in the
roster's hole.

Speaker 2 (27:48):
Whatever.

Speaker 1 (27:48):
The sportsbooks had the Broncos a five and a half
win team.

Speaker 2 (27:52):
Obviously they made the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (27:53):
I don't think that they're going to have that low
of expectation this coming season, and certainly.

Speaker 2 (27:57):
They're not going to sneak up on anybody the year.

Speaker 1 (28:00):
Last year. I think if you'd ask people at the
beginning of the year what a successful season was, just
the answer would have been developing bo Nicks and you know,
the wins fall what they may do. You think that
changes for this year. Do you think that the expectation
of success that barr is raised because of that season
they had last year?

Speaker 4 (28:17):
Yeah, I think definitely. Teams are going to be more
aware of them this year. They're not going to catch
them by surprise. And the schedule toughened up this year too.
I mean they have a third place schedule, but they
got some non traditional third place teams, I mean coming
in Cincinnati, Green Bay, that sort of thing. And Sean

(28:38):
Payton doesn't have the NFC South that beat up on
this coming year, which he went for and oh against.
So yeah, you know it's now they got to take
that next step because everybody's going to be expecting them
to be a playoff team and then expecting them to
be a playoff team that wins the game. So sometimes
that next step and harder than that initial staff.

Speaker 1 (29:02):
Because last question from me here, do you are you
at all maybe uh concerned with the coaching staff turnover?

Speaker 3 (29:11):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (29:11):
You know, obviously they you know, they kept advanced Joseph,
but there was there's defections throughout the coaching staff, whether
it was special teams, defense, offense, whatever. Are you at
all concerned about the possibility of turnover there on the
on the coaching staff.

Speaker 4 (29:24):
No, I don't think so, because the coaches who departed,
I mean, I don't know if they were super major
type coaches. The only coordinator gone, you know, Ben Kottweka.
That was the choice of the of the Broncos to
part with him, and they brought in Karon Rizzy, who's
certainly one of the best special teams coordinators in recent

(29:47):
NFL history. And they got a lot of guys there.
I mean, some of the guys they lost on offense
you got and you know, you still have Pete Carmichael
and people like that. So they have a lot of
guys and and reinforcement. So I don't think it's it's
a huge concern what happened with the coaching staff.

Speaker 1 (30:06):
Chris Well, I appreciate you as always look forward to
having you all again here sooner.

Speaker 4 (30:09):
Bud, appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (30:11):
Guys, thanks absolutely, take care. Chris Thomason from the Denver Gazette.
Do you see that uh last second hail Mary there?

Speaker 2 (30:24):
Oh my god, I just looked down.

Speaker 3 (30:26):
Oh I saw it get tied up at sixty eight or.

Speaker 2 (30:30):
Something like that.

Speaker 1 (30:31):
Yeah, Alabama State with the last second Hail Mary to
win it against Saint Francis.

Speaker 2 (30:36):
I need to replay. Yeah, we need to replay for grants.

Speaker 1 (30:40):

Speaker 2 (31:14):
Playing game here and Twitter's melting down.

Speaker 1 (31:18):
What a what an absolute last minute uh play there
to to get the ball down there and get the
game winning field goal to mar Knox, I don't know
if you guys are watching that or not, or do
you guys watch do you guys watch.

Speaker 2 (31:32):
The playing games?

Speaker 1 (31:32):
As far as that stuff goes, It really feels like
for me that march Man's don't really kick off till
like Thursday when everybody starts starts watching.

Speaker 2 (31:39):
But Thursday morning, yeah, I mean.

Speaker 1 (31:42):
But like the play against the people watch so I mean,
obviously the fan bases of those particular teams obviously watch them,
but we have them on in the studio, you know,
to watch those kind of things. And now obviously we've
got part of the tournament that's going to be here
in Denver. As a matter of fact, a couple of
games Thursday. We've got Michigan UC San Diego, Texas A

(32:04):
and m Yale both those here Thursday.

Speaker 2 (32:08):
Anybody gonna be out there attending that.

Speaker 1 (32:09):
Obviously we have kaa personnel on the ground covering that
top to bottom, But I don't know if you guys,
do you guys go to the NCAA tournament at all.
It's fascinating to me because there's like some diehards that
I know that absolutely love that, and then there's some
people that are that you would consider diard sports, they

(32:31):
still don't care, Like they just don't care until it
gets down.

Speaker 2 (32:35):
To the sweet sixteen as far as that stuff goes.

Speaker 1 (32:38):
The Marchsmadnis Tournament, I think, for me has always been
something I've enjoyed watching.

Speaker 2 (32:47):
I can remember back in my days.

Speaker 1 (32:52):
When I was in the UH what was in the army,
and one of the things that I created was a
key stroke shortcut that allows you to hit a button
and a pop up and excels a fake Excel spreadsheet
that was prepopulated so it made it look like you
were doing work at your desk if you were streaming
uh the game on your you know you're streaming the
game on your computer. You can fire up that real

(33:14):
quick and then pop up a spreadsheet there make it
look like, yeah, you know, you've always tried to get
over on something I saw a stat Uh.

Speaker 3 (33:22):
It was a story I talked about on KBCO last
night that the US economy loses twenty billion dollars in
economic productivity during March.

Speaker 1 (33:33):
Maas that sounds about right, That sounds about right. That's wild, Yeah,
I it was. Yeah, So anyway, we used to we
used to do that. We'd come up with with stuff
like that, real real, you know, real quick, skeezy, shortcut
type stuff so that you could fire something up and
uh and then they end up they end up blocking
you know, streaming video and all that kind of stuff
a few years later, so it became a worthless endeavor.

Speaker 2 (33:52):
But that's why you just caught off sick.

Speaker 1 (33:54):
Well, let mean at that point, yeah, obviously just uh,
you know, but but I can remember early on, why,
you know, all the creative stuff that we would do
to try to try to get away with watching the
games on the clock when we're supposed to be doing
other stuff.

Speaker 3 (34:09):
If they didn't want us to watch it, they wouldn't
have it on during the workday.

Speaker 2 (34:13):
We got it. It's a it's like a national holiday.
The first round of the NCAA tournament.

Speaker 1 (34:17):
Well that's that's the other thing. Like, because we talk
about you know, a Super Bowl Sunday and that that Monday.

Speaker 2 (34:22):
Why don't we turn that into a holiday.

Speaker 1 (34:24):
I mean, it feel feels like we could just turn
that into some sort of some sort of holiday conglomerate,
a you know, contract all the February holidays and stuff,
put them all into one and just have it be
that Monday, right after the super Bowl. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (34:35):
Well, when they go to eighteen games, it may not matter.
Maybe it'll fall on President's Day.

Speaker 2 (34:40):
It might, you know, at that point it might.

Speaker 1 (34:42):
But I like that. That seems like somebody could run
on an electoral platform and win.

Speaker 2 (34:46):
Just I will.

Speaker 1 (34:46):
I'm issue, I will after the super Bowl federal holiday.

Speaker 2 (34:51):
They'd have my vote.

Speaker 1 (34:52):
Guys get seventy percent approval rating. No, I don't know
the rest of his platform, but.

Speaker 3 (34:58):
That day saving time and the Super bowls was Monday off.

Speaker 1 (35:03):
Yeah, man, I don't care if it's saving time or
not saving I don't I don't care which one.

Speaker 2 (35:07):
I just would have picked one.

Speaker 1 (35:07):
And stick with it.

Speaker 2 (35:08):
Please please, I don't care which one it is.

Speaker 1 (35:11):
I don't care. You know. Honestly, I sleep been late,
so I don't really care if there's light in the morning.
But like for me, like I don't care, you know,
just just pick one and stick with it. I stayed
the spring and Ford the falling back and.

Speaker 2 (35:22):
All the it's just ridiculous.

Speaker 3 (35:23):
Anyway, I just saw the replay of the Alabama State
game winner.

Speaker 2 (35:27):
Oh yeah, yeah, this is the beauty of it.

Speaker 3 (35:29):
Though, like this sixteen seed Alabama State, They're not gonna
win their next game. There's no chance. It's happened once
an NCAA tournament history. But for this school to get
this moment in March Madness, this is the beauty of
the playing games and March Madness as a whole.

Speaker 2 (35:43):
One shining moment.

Speaker 1 (35:44):
If you will, if you will, we got al Roach
would come back Brookles Country to night
