Speaker 1 (00:00):
Go to a broadcast country tonight. It's been all right

(00:02):
here with you. Grant Smith back there behind the glass.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Five six six nine zeros text line, you guys want
to get involved in the conversation. It's a March Madness edition,
but we got a lot of stuff to get to.
Nicki Edward's gonna join us at six point thirty, the
Buffs reporter for Rivals, an editor of Yeah Whose Sports talk,
a little March Madness, a little bit about the Buffs
Pro Day caught up April fourth, and of course the
spring game. Parker Gabriel from the Never Post going to
join us at seven o five. Zach Seers seven thirty

(00:25):
five talked about his latest article on the KWA website,
and Richard Rougers, the chief communications officer for the Pro
Football Hall of Fame, loved him. The last time we
had him on was fantastic conversation. Uh I can't wait
to get back into it with him. He'll be joined
us at the top of the eight o'clock hour again.
Five sixty six nine zero is the text line, you
guys want to get involved in conversation. A little bit
of news breaking right before the right as the previous

(00:49):
show k Sports was Ending. Broncos have hired a new
inside linebacker coach, and that's Jeff Schmedding.

Speaker 1 (00:56):
Sch Medding. Schmedding, who was hired.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
In twenty nineteen by Brian Harrison to serve as defensive
corda at Boise State. In twenty twenty one, when Harson
left Boise for Auburn, he hired Spending to coach linebackers.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
He became the.

Speaker 2 (01:08):
Defensive coordinator following the departure of Derek Mason. It's also
served as Auburn's assistant head coach. Following Horson's firing from
Auburn midway through twenty twenty two. Schmetting was the loan
assistant brought by Harrison to Auburn. It was retained by
interim head coach Cadillac Williams. When he Freeze was hired,
it was he was not retained in twenty twenty three.
Is near the defensive coordinator Washington State, and then December

(01:28):
of this past year, we fired from Washington State. With
the Cougar's defense allowing four hundred and twenty nine yards
per game, one sixteenth in the FBS, and an average
of five point two per rush, which was one hundred
and twentieth in eighteens there in the FBS one hundred
and twenty something.

Speaker 1 (01:43):
Okay, it was not good. It was not a good job,
not a good defense.

Speaker 2 (01:48):
And they had three players that went in the NFL
Draft this past year.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
So there's at least that ach.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
Metting does not have any pro coaching experience.

Speaker 1 (01:59):
He's seven years old.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
Most of his experience came as he started off as
a grand assist at Eastern Washington and was there with
their program for roughly fourteen years at various different positions safety, linebacker,
special teams, defensive coordinator before joining Brian Horsen at Poise.
So Jeff Schmeddding, congratulations the new inside linebacker coach of
the Denver Broncos. Other news that broke right before the break,
Jameis Winston has been signed two year, eight million dollars

(02:22):
deal by the New York Giants. I guess those elite
neighbors shares up right now because you know he's got
a ball out.

Speaker 3 (02:30):
I'm glad Jamis has gotten a new deal and on
another team to spread his message wherever he goes.

Speaker 2 (02:36):
Aaron Rodgers spent six hours today at the Pittsburgh Steelers' headquarters.
They've already got the framework of a contract worked out,
just a question of him pulling the trigger and saying
I want to be I want to be a Steeler.

Speaker 1 (02:47):
He met with the coaches today.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
That was about familiarity and make sure he's a good fit,
all that kind of stuff I expect. I mean, they're
all talking about people are talking about that taken a while.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
I don't think it's going to take that much longer.

Speaker 2 (02:59):
You know, York is starting to close the book there.
We're starting to see, you know, the way this this
market is shaking out. The Vikings were never in it
for Aaron Rodgers, despite Aaron Rodgers interest in the Vikings.
You know, I think we're going to see him air
quotes make his decision on the Steelers sooner than later.

Speaker 1 (03:21):
So we'll keep an eye on that. Let you know, uh,
lets you know how that goes.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
Jonathan Cooper restructured his deal today, uh freed up a
little bit of a little bit of cap space, about
three point two million for the Broncos. Several people were
speculating about the possibility of bringing someone in. Although I
feel like that the money that they have right now
or the cap space they have right now really is
more about getting extensions done with Zach Allen and Nick Benito,

(03:48):
both of whom need some need extensions done.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
Benito's still on the rookie deal. Of course.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
Zach Allen, the guaranteed money is just about out of
his deal. Had several blasking about Courtland Sutton. I don't
know that that's him on the horizon or even something
that actually gets done.

Speaker 1 (04:06):
We'll see.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
That's one that's you know, that could be could be
out there. We'll see again. I think that this coaching
staff has significantly more faith in the young core of
their receiving core than the fans.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
And the media seemed to at this point.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
Von Velay, who they had big plans for last year,
they had big plans for Devon Vley had cracked ribs
early in the season, couldn't really get going. We kind
of saw him get going late in the season. I
think they view him as as kind of the guy
and Marvin Mims, you know, he really came on the
second half of the season. I know we saw him

(04:44):
lined up in various places, but I expect him to
be more of that hybrid slot and and or Z
for the Broncos. This coming year, and you'll see him
as a a motion guy, the deep shot guy. You
look at how Sean Payton likes to likes to run
these things and do trips one side and and have
a backside burner. You know, I think they think that
Marvin Mims could be that guy. They still have high

(05:07):
hosts for Troy Franklin. I don't know, you know, what
the level of faith is there, but they still kind
of have some high hopes that you know, in his
second season, they'll be able to start putting stuff together.

Speaker 1 (05:17):
We'll we'll see how that shakes out.

Speaker 2 (05:19):
I wouldn't be surprised if they do add a receiver
in the draft, but I would be surprised if they
did that early. It just conversations have had. I don't
believe that's kind of the you know, the way things
will shake.

Speaker 1 (05:32):
Out for him.

Speaker 2 (05:33):
I think if if they're looking at receiver, I think
they may add one, you know, much much later in
the draft.

Speaker 1 (05:37):
They may add one in free agency.

Speaker 2 (05:40):
You know, Brandon Cook signed back with the Saints today,
so that's off the board. But uh, you know, looking
at some of these guys at the price is right,
you could see one of these lower mid tier free agents,
you know, maybe get added in free agency.

Speaker 1 (05:51):
We'll see, we'll see.

Speaker 4 (05:52):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
Obviously they've already added Treatchurefield at less most more of
a what I would call a special teams move than
necessarily a receiver, although he'll he'll get snaps out there.
You saw a little Jordan Humphrey signed with the New
York Giants today as well.

Speaker 1 (06:06):
The Broncos did have.

Speaker 2 (06:07):
An offer out to Humphrey, but I think he felt
like his role would be a lot bigger there in
New York, and you know, wish him.

Speaker 1 (06:15):
The best of luck.

Speaker 2 (06:16):
It is kind of interesting because I think just split
between football people at non football people and little.

Speaker 1 (06:22):
Jordan Humphrey is pretty interesting.

Speaker 2 (06:25):
Every football guy you talk to looks at little Jordan
Humphrey and he's like, you know, Bronco's gonna miss that,
to go miss what he brought to the table, you know,
and all the all the dirty work he did, all
that kind of stuff, And the non football people are
like as a bum, uh, you know, glad to see
him gone.

Speaker 1 (06:37):
He barely had he catches and all that. You know,
I don't know about that.

Speaker 2 (06:42):
So I do think that the Broncos, the Broncos could
miss it, could miss him.

Speaker 1 (06:50):
Obviously.

Speaker 2 (06:50):
He brought in Evin Ingram, who's going to take over
a lot of what Little Jordan did. I think people
kind of view, you know, and I've certainly seen people
talk about the joker portion of it all that I
Ingram has never been that guy.

Speaker 1 (07:01):
That's not what he does now.

Speaker 2 (07:02):
If the Broncos put him in that role, that'll be interesting,
but that's not what he's been throughout his career.

Speaker 1 (07:06):
He's been a heavy slot guy, which was kind of what.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
Little Jordan Humphrey Josh relds Uh did a little bit of,
and I expected to be more in that role than
anything else. Five six six, nine zeros and text I
want to hear for you guys already had some of
the some of the text rolling in nine or nine,
says Ben.

Speaker 1 (07:25):
Do you know what Denver has cooking right now?

Speaker 2 (07:27):
In regards to adding to the offense, yesterday, Michaelis said
Denver will add a two and a half type receiver
and a veteran running back in the next two weeks.

Speaker 1 (07:37):
What can you let us inside on?

Speaker 2 (07:38):
Thanks for your inside as always, well, we've talked about
the running back position here extensively.

Speaker 1 (07:43):
I've said they'll add one. I do believe they'll add one.

Speaker 2 (07:48):
You know that that's that's something we've talked about extensively here.

Speaker 1 (07:52):
I wouldn't be surprised if it was JK. Dobbins either.

Speaker 2 (07:55):
I'm not guaranteeing that, but I think that they they're
kind of eyeballing that.

Speaker 1 (07:59):
As far as the receiver, I think it's less. I
would not call that a certainty at this point.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
I'm saying it's a possibility, but I'm not I'm not
putting that in as high a percentages as the Texter
is saying that michae List did here, and I didn't
see what Mike said about it. I'll text him later
and figure out and get the quote from him direct,
but I don't know.

Speaker 1 (08:21):
I don't know what Mike said.

Speaker 2 (08:22):
And what I will say is that I don't think
that adding a receiver is a what I would consider
a priority for them, And obviously you can sort of
see that because it hasn't been a priority for them.
I do believe that if the right guy was there
at the right price, that they would certainly consider that.
You know, we talked a little bit about Brandon cook Cooks.
We've talked a little bit about a Mark Cooper, you know,

(08:44):
one of those guys that that can be a wide receiver.

Speaker 1 (08:46):
You know, I don't know for for you. You run
through the rotation a little.

Speaker 2 (08:49):
Bit, you know, has experience as a starter, but doesn't
necessarily need to be that at this point. Just somebody
with some experience and be a body to put in
the rotation. And I, again, I think that is a possibility,
but I would not label it necessarily.

Speaker 1 (09:04):
A probability at this point.

Speaker 2 (09:05):
But I'll text Mike and figure out what he said
and we'll get some clarity on that a little later.

Speaker 1 (09:08):
Again.

Speaker 2 (09:09):
Five six to six nine zero is the text line.
A lot of NCAA tournament action happening today. Baylor beat
Misssippi State seventy five seventy two, Alabama eighty and excuse me,
ninety to eighty one over Robert Morris. Little we'll scare
there from Robert Morris early on Ababama, I.

Speaker 1 (09:24):
Was a good game oted to him.

Speaker 2 (09:25):
Late Iowa stayed in complete control over Lipscomb eighty two
to fifty five, Duke ninety three to forty nine, over
Mount Saint Mary's, Saint Mary's, the Saint Mary's Gale beat
vanderbiltey nine fifty six.

Speaker 1 (09:40):
That was what I got wrong in my bracket there.
I had Vandy in that one.

Speaker 3 (09:43):
Sounds like he didn't watch any of their conferences here,
which one Saint Mary's.

Speaker 1 (09:47):
I watch a single Saint Mary's game. Oh they're good, man.
Apparently they beat Vanderbilt, who was a good team. Vanderbilt's
not that good. SEC overrated this year.

Speaker 2 (09:56):
We get out of here, and it's funny because, like
I still have all five teams that I have in
the Elite eight from the SEC year, I think still
in this thing.

Speaker 1 (10:04):
So there you go. Speaking of the SEC.

Speaker 2 (10:06):
Old Miss beat North Carolina seventy one sixty four. Maryland
beat Grand Canyon eighty one to forty nine. A few
games going on right now. We've got Florida in control
over Norfolk State sixty six forty four with fifteen twenty
left to go. In the second Kentucky is up thirty
five twenty seven over Troy at the half marquette in

(10:26):
New Mexico.

Speaker 1 (10:27):
This is funny.

Speaker 2 (10:27):
I was at when I was watching the CSU game.
Earlder guy, he had at a parlay going. He had
New Mexico is the last leg of it. He put
like twenty bucks down to win three hundred and something
or whatever, and they were offered him the one fifty
cash out, and I was like, I think I might
take the cash out on that one, but who knows.
You know, New Mexico up five right now with one
fifty one left to go in.

Speaker 1 (10:47):
The first thirty two to twenty seven.

Speaker 2 (10:49):
And then you've got Acron Arizona going on right now
where Grant Smith's Akron Zips are down sixteen twenty one
to Benjamin Albright's final four headed Arizona Wildcats.

Speaker 1 (11:00):
We're going to be monitoring this one all night long,
all night long, like Clonel Richie, so we'll see how
it goes.

Speaker 2 (11:05):
Big story of the day CSU beating Memphis seventy eight
to seventy. There were times where where Memphis kind of
flirted with with taking over that thing, but Colorado State
came on strong in the second half, and you know
they're fast pacing their transition team. Now they're knocking down
three pointers. Colorados, they looked looked pretty good out there.

(11:28):
You know, Nick Clifford is we're the big name going
to the tournament. But Kayane Evans twenty three points.

Speaker 1 (11:35):
Career high six three pointers. Yeah, that's I mean, that's
that's getting it done right there.

Speaker 2 (11:39):
Memphis looked kind of slow at the start of the game,
but then they got warmed up in kind of the
mid and then they looked they faded, you know there
at the end. Offensive rebounding a real issue for CSU
in this way.

Speaker 1 (11:53):
They're gonna have to figure that out.

Speaker 2 (11:54):
That's one of the things I always talk about when
we get that, when we get tired of the tournament.
Is your offensive efficacy in other words, what you get
points per possession, because that adjusts obviously for pace basketball teams,
but not just that. Your ability to rebound is so
vital in the NCAA turtament because second chance if you're
having a cold day, second.

Speaker 1 (12:11):
Chance opportunities are just huge.

Speaker 2 (12:13):
If you can't rebound, you are not going to go
far in the NCAA tournament.

Speaker 1 (12:18):
And that's something can Ces you will have to work.

Speaker 3 (12:19):
I do like their matchup in the next round though,
taking on Maryland, even though Maryland looked great today against
Grand Canyon. I think I think CSU can can keep
this game close and who knows what will happen down
the end.

Speaker 1 (12:30):
Yeah, that's that's one we'll be rude for. I believe
that's a Sunday game, correct, Yes, Sunday time. No time
yet on it.

Speaker 3 (12:36):
Oh, they'll probably wait till the rest of the slate
is done and then we'll know what time they play
on Sunday. But I would guess it'll be later in
the day since they are in the Seattle region, it
makes sense.

Speaker 1 (12:45):
Can't wait. Tournament updates are presented by Infinity.

Speaker 2 (12:47):
Stream Live Sports for the best seat in the house
with Exfinity a lot coming up. Nicky Edward's gonna join
us here bottom of the hour. She's a buff reporter
for Rivals, the editor at Yeaho's Sports. She was courtside
for all four Arch Madness games in Denver yesterday. I
wonder if she can tell us if Taysom Hill maybe
had a guest with him when he was here at
the watching BYU, like Sean Payton.

Speaker 1 (13:08):
Maybe maybe you.

Speaker 2 (13:09):
Know, I wasn't gonna mention any particular Sean Payton's, but
if that Sean Payton happened, could have just been.

Speaker 3 (13:15):
Maybe another Peyton, George Peyton could either Maybe I was
gonna mention a particular Peyton. Pyton and Peyton just saying, yeah,
for those who don't know, Taysom Hill, Uh, the actual
former joker for Sean Payton was in town in Denver
yesterday watching by you, his alma mater take on VC.

Speaker 1 (13:33):
You get the win there. Uh, so he was at that.
He was at the game.

Speaker 2 (13:36):
Many have speculated that maybe Taysom Hill was in town
for other purposes, but you know who knows. We'll see,
We'll see how all that works out, Parker Gabriel. We
gonna join us top of the next hour. Parker Brooke
the Jonathan Cooper restructuring earlier today.

Speaker 1 (13:55):
And we'll ask him what he thinks that move does.

Speaker 2 (13:58):
In freeing up three point two million in caps face
for the Denver Broncos, do.

Speaker 3 (14:02):
You think that's for more money for Nick Benito and
Zach Allen or do you think that's more of bringing
in another player.

Speaker 1 (14:08):
I think it's more about it. I mean, they've got
enough to bring in players right now.

Speaker 2 (14:11):
I think it's more about tuning these things up, getting
everything where they need to get these extensions done.

Speaker 1 (14:15):
They need to get done because they've got a few
of those. You need to decide whether or not you're extending.

Speaker 2 (14:20):
John Franklin Myers, and then obviously the Benito and now
at extensions which they have been working on for some time.

Speaker 1 (14:27):
Several people asked.

Speaker 2 (14:28):
About Courtland Sutton and I have no news on that,
whether or not they've even put an offer out our
counter offer oute that I'm aware of as far as
that stuff goes. Courtland of course sat out some of
the non mandatory stuff last year before they hit him
back with some insative bonus type stuff to his contract.
There's not really much guaranteed money left in Courtland's deal.
Everybody knows he's seeking a new deal and it will

(14:49):
probably be in the vein of what t Higgins got
up there in Cinnatier. You're looking at like twenty eight
and a half million dollars. That's going, right, That's crazy.
You wait to pay a guys happens.

Speaker 1 (15:00):
That's why the patser Tans deals a steel right now,
I know, man.

Speaker 3 (15:03):
But speaking of sitting course side, bow next and Courtland
Sutton last week sitting courtside together at a Nuggets game
and as game as well, so maybe that's a good
sign that they're.

Speaker 1 (15:11):
They're bringing him back.

Speaker 2 (15:12):
They also had Frank Crumb and Nick Arjulio there and
that was kind of head scratching.

Speaker 3 (15:15):
But you know, whatever Julio has has, he brought back
the mullett.

Speaker 1 (15:18):
Get it back, It's coming back.

Speaker 2 (15:20):
And yeah, he It was funny because when he got drafted,
we had him on uh and I, you know, I
went to go because I was not super familiar with
Nick Carjulio, and I went and looked at the headshot
and this man had a full on tom Selleck mustache
and a mullet commendation that would have been the envy
of every Iroxy driver in the nineteen eighties.

Speaker 1 (15:42):
And we talked to him.

Speaker 2 (15:43):
About and I'm talking to him and I'm like, brother,
this uh, this hair, it's feathered and lethal. This is
this is where it's at. He's like, I has some
bad news. I shaved it. And I was like, yeah,
what are you.

Speaker 1 (15:53):
Doing if he wants to crack that starting line up? Yeah,
you gotta you can't cut that off. No seek Samson
with the Philistines.

Speaker 2 (16:01):
If you can't cut that off, the source of your strength,
the source of your power, what.

Speaker 1 (16:06):
Are we doing here?

Speaker 2 (16:08):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (16:08):
He started growing that back.

Speaker 2 (16:09):
And then Frank Crumb, who looks like like homeless surfer
Garrett Bowles with his hair, you know, Combo going on
right now was there as well, So it was, Uh,
it's good to see the Broncos getting out there in
the in the community, especially obviously Bo and and you know,
I don't know if the court thing means anything, but
certainly certainly the biggest, one of the bigger.

Speaker 1 (16:30):
Names for the Broncos getting out there.

Speaker 3 (16:31):
That is a big deal though, right for bow as
the franchise quarterback, to be out there.

Speaker 2 (16:35):
To be out there and be supportive and all that
kind of stuff. It's it's it's good get out there
in the community. It's time to take charge. You're not
a rookie anymore. It's time to take charge, you know.
And I think I think that's a part of it.
So good to see. Uh, good to see that as well.
Five sixty sixty nine zero is the text line, got
quite quite a few good texts come in here, Ben,
Can Aaron Rodgers play dead in the Western at this point?

(16:58):
You know, I I'm not the world's biggest Aaron Rodgers fan.
Especially over the last few years. There was a point
in his career where I, you know, I like watching
him play, but uh, the way he's sort of you know, uh,
handled his exit from Green Bay, the way he destroyed
everything in New York and and the way that he's
kind of gone about that. I'm not, you know, not

(17:18):
the biggest fan. He played all right down the stretch.
I guess for New York what great, But it wasn't bad.
So you know, it'll be interesting to see if he's
still got anything left in the tank, especially in Pittsburgh
where you'd have dk and and George Pickens and we
all know that Aaron was at his best. He's running
McCarthy's offense that allowed to throw those deep io routes,
and those guys are deep io guys, So you know,

(17:40):
maybe maybe there's something to that. Uh, let's see what
else we had. Somebody asking how good Devin Neil is.
I think he's pretty good. I'm not sure if he's
candidate here, but I think he's pretty good. Is that
the kat out of Kansas?

Speaker 1 (17:50):
Yeah? Running back? Yeah, let's see what else we got here?
Uh No, I don't know.

Speaker 4 (17:54):
Ben.

Speaker 1 (17:54):
Thank you for your responses. You're great at your work.

Speaker 4 (17:57):
Man.

Speaker 1 (17:57):
You don't have to respond to this.

Speaker 2 (17:58):
But do you think you and Sean Payton whatever get
to a point of being on good terms.

Speaker 1 (18:01):
We're on just fine terms like that. That's the thing.
I think everybody thinks that.

Speaker 2 (18:04):
There's some bad blood there or something like that, the
legitimately is not. You know, when Sean Payton got here
to Denver, uh, and there's a photo of it somewhere.
I slipped him a giant pack of juicy fruit as
a as a peace offering, and it was, uh, it
went over pretty well.

Speaker 1 (18:24):
He was he was pretty amused by that.

Speaker 3 (18:27):
Well, yeah, as long as he's never listened to the show,
I'm sure you guys are on great.

Speaker 1 (18:30):
He does, on occasion listen to the show. I know
this for several reasons.

Speaker 2 (18:36):
But I will say that, you know the communication dialogue
he and I've had, you know, he understands it's my
job to be critical. He's got a job to go
out there and show that I'm an idiot, right and uh,
And so that we're we're on, we're on absolutely fine terms.
There's no bad blood between me and Sean Payton. Is
about to be bad blood between me and Jody Jordan
if that cake that he's holding around in there doesn't
somehow make his way in here during the break.

Speaker 1 (18:58):
But you know, big old Delicious chocolate cake.

Speaker 2 (19:02):
Yeah, he just carried a whole cake around, you know,
a little charcoterie board. I didn't eve see that. I
just saw the weekends and now I saw this giant cake.
I'm like, okay, I'm so hungry right now.

Speaker 3 (19:10):
We're literally talking about it before we came right here there,
I'm like, I'm ordered a pizza, you anything, So just
wait on Jody Jordan to get here.

Speaker 1 (19:17):
The snacks will be provided. Look, that's you know, that's
a veteran move right there. It's a pro move. We
had a lot coming up when we come back.

Speaker 2 (19:23):
It's gonna be Nicki Edwards, the buff reporter for Rivals,
the editor at yah, Who's Sports, Who's courtside for all
four March Madness games here yesterday.

Speaker 1 (19:30):
We're got our thoughts on Dion's ideas from the Spring Games.

Speaker 2 (19:33):
The April fourth Colorado product coming up as well. That's
gonna be a pretty big deal to be on ESPEN
twenty four hour sports.

Speaker 1 (19:40):
Network that will network.

Speaker 2 (19:41):
Look forward to here for you guys in the text line,
and we'll be back here in just a few Rockles
Country not Kae those Country tonight been to a Albright
here grat Smith back there behind the glass five six
six times here as text line got to run right
out to the ka Commas birth hot line and bring
a Nikki Edwards, the bus reporter.

Speaker 1 (20:01):
For Rivals and editor at Yeah, who's sports Nikki? How
you doing this? Seeing good?

Speaker 5 (20:07):
How are you a pleasure to be on?

Speaker 1 (20:08):
Yeah? Great to have you.

Speaker 2 (20:10):
You know, first of all, you were there yesterday obviously
for all the March madness here in Denver. How was
the seat in the house And did you spy any Peyton,
Sean Payton, George Payton whoever with Taysom Hill who was
there to watch his Alba mon or byu?

Speaker 4 (20:27):
Oh yes, I did not spot them yesterday, but I
did see jimmerfer Debt in the crowd yesterday.

Speaker 5 (20:33):
I was sitting court side taking it all.

Speaker 6 (20:36):
The hoop is my.

Speaker 4 (20:36):
First stint covering March Madness, and.

Speaker 5 (20:40):
Yeah, first court side seat as well.

Speaker 4 (20:41):
It was really, really fun and of course we didn't
get any Cinderella.

Speaker 5 (20:45):
Stories out of those four matchups.

Speaker 4 (20:46):
But man, you can't really get anything better than the
best tournament in all the sports in my opinion.

Speaker 2 (20:52):
Yeah, I think the Cinderella stories you on the front
row court side there obviously getting to get to take
it all in personally a better seat than I had
watching here on.

Speaker 1 (20:59):
TV from the studio.

Speaker 2 (21:00):
So what did you take away from any of those
games yesterday.

Speaker 4 (21:06):
It's like I mentioned, nothing too upsetting that we saw,
but we have really good matchups coming up on Saturday.

Speaker 5 (21:14):
Of course, you don't want.

Speaker 6 (21:15):
To ask me about my bracket.

Speaker 5 (21:16):
My bracket is absolutely busted in the past few days.

Speaker 2 (21:19):
But in the.

Speaker 4 (21:20):
Expectations of Wisconsin, BYU, Texas and m.

Speaker 6 (21:23):
Michigan, they all came out with a win.

Speaker 4 (21:25):
But at the end of the night to get me
through my final shift, the final hour of the night,
the tip with at a PM.

Speaker 6 (21:30):
U see San Diego held the Big.

Speaker 5 (21:32):
Ten title winners Michigan to one.

Speaker 4 (21:35):
Possession games and you see San Diego came up with
one final three. Of course they weren't able to force overtime,
but it was a nice.

Speaker 5 (21:42):
Bow on the end of the day.

Speaker 4 (21:44):
Tex A and m b YU Wisconsin. I covered Big
twelve hoops in the Colorado Basketball of course, so I'm
familiar with.

Speaker 6 (21:50):
BYU and what they were gonna prege out in the court.

Speaker 4 (21:53):
Of course, VCU that was one team that you know
what you get out of march A lot of teams
that you don't see, you don't really know, and VCU
really put up a fair fight in the eighty seventy
one laws Skins BYU.

Speaker 5 (22:04):
And I'm really overall excited for Saturday because these are
the matchups you want to see.

Speaker 4 (22:08):
You want to see the best of each conference going
head to head in the second round.

Speaker 5 (22:12):
I can't say who if tech A and M is going.

Speaker 4 (22:15):
To take over Michigan BYU Wisconsin. It's a really even
flaying field there, and we got through the you know,
the mid major school and now we're going.

Speaker 5 (22:23):
To see some Power five programs go out on Saturday.

Speaker 2 (22:26):
What matchup are you most excited four on Saturday?

Speaker 4 (22:31):
Man, I would say BYU is in Wisconsin, just because
of the way that BYU has surged through kind of
the end of Big Twelve.

Speaker 6 (22:39):
They weren't a team that maybe.

Speaker 4 (22:40):
Anyone had their eye on, and then they had a
solid run in the Big Twelve tournament in Wisconsin too.

Speaker 6 (22:45):
They've really made a name for themselves in the Big Ten.

Speaker 5 (22:48):
Of course, I mean Michigan two, that's the story as well, winning.

Speaker 6 (22:51):
The Big Big Ten title.

Speaker 4 (22:53):
But I would like to see, just for the Big
twelve fans out here them come out with a win.

Speaker 5 (22:59):
And I've also been plased surprised with the.

Speaker 6 (23:01):
Fan for now.

Speaker 5 (23:02):
I heard there was like two There were sellouts.

Speaker 4 (23:04):
For Thursday when I was there, and there's gonna be
sell out continuously on Saturday. The crowds there were great,
and a lot of YU fans of course, you know,
the proximity are are showing up for those games. So
I honestly, equally, I'm looking forward to both. I mean,
I'm not a personal fan of either of those programs.
I'm just looking forward to some good hoops and some
interesting storylines coming out of both of those matchups.

Speaker 2 (23:26):
Talking with Nicky Edwards, Boss reporter for Rivals editor at
Yahoo Sports, see boss you know obviously citing Byron Leftwich
as a as a coaching assistant a couple of days ago.

Speaker 1 (23:37):
I think eyes continue.

Speaker 2 (23:38):
To be on the Colorado program, and you know, coach
Prime comes out and suggests, hey, let's do a spring game,
but maybe against an opponent, and you know, Frank Brown
of Syracuse obviously got on Twitter through his name and
they had Kenny Dillingham's, you know, and at Arizona State
is obviously.

Speaker 1 (23:51):
Suggested he'd love to be involved.

Speaker 2 (23:53):
What do you think of the idea of having a
live opponent for a spring game, and do you think
this is something that perhaps other schools copied on the line.

Speaker 6 (24:02):
I mean, you'd hope so.

Speaker 5 (24:04):
I think the biggest hurdle so far is, of course, there's.

Speaker 4 (24:07):
NCAA bylaws that prevent schools from playing each other in
spring games. So once that is regulated or figured out,
then I would love to see and I think any
college football fan would love to see two.

Speaker 6 (24:20):
Programs play each other in the spring.

Speaker 5 (24:22):
That brings a little bit more action, a little bit
more competitive nature.

Speaker 6 (24:25):
I asked Warren Sappa this past week his.

Speaker 4 (24:28):
Opinion on bringing another team, and he was like, let's
do it, like who's coming in here? Because you know,
he Hall of Famer practiced when as teams practiced in
the NFL. You got those few days against those teams,
and then you go up against them. You would just
like to be able to hit a little harder, play
a little harder against you know, not your own personal guys.
There's just a little bit of.

Speaker 5 (24:48):
An added edge there when you bring in another team.

Speaker 6 (24:51):
I mean, it would be of course lucrative as well.

Speaker 4 (24:54):
I mean, Colorado's spring game is already being broadcasted on
ESPN two.

Speaker 6 (24:57):
But how fun would.

Speaker 4 (24:58):
That be if another program that maybe they're not able
to play and you know, the conference or even non
conference come and face up against Colorado.

Speaker 6 (25:08):
And I think to you, in those formats, you're able to.

Speaker 4 (25:10):
See what you have, You're able to assess your players
and a little bit better because they're not you know,
a little bit timid and not trying to hurt anyone,
like they're kind of going at it full throttle, and
it just adds a little bit, you know, added layer
to the game. And I'd love to see it, but
Nancy is preventing it from happening.

Speaker 2 (25:30):
Well, NCAA has long been a fan of ruining everyone
else's fun, so not surprising. Yeah, there we do have
another you know, the the bus have pro Day coming
up here April fourth, you know, all the all the
cameras and all the the actual will be there. Should
or Sanders Travis Hunter get one more chance to sort
of impress the NFL scouts as well as some of

(25:51):
the other teammates that that maybe aren't getting the headlines
that they get.

Speaker 1 (25:54):
Guys like the Jonte Wester or Horn.

Speaker 2 (25:57):
You know, what do you are you going to be
down there at the PROA and what do you expect
out of that?

Speaker 5 (26:03):
Of course I.

Speaker 6 (26:04):
Am expecting a lot of media. I mean, as we
all know, Colorado prior.

Speaker 4 (26:09):
To Dion Sanders hasn't really been a prominent program. I've
been covering this team for about three years now.

Speaker 6 (26:14):
Last year's per Day there.

Speaker 4 (26:15):
Was a couple of NFL guys, but there weren't any
you know, big big names that we're getting with Shore Sanders,
Travis Hunter, and as you mentioned, you got Lejohntay Wester,
Jimmy Horne Junior.

Speaker 6 (26:27):
Even on the defensive side, b.

Speaker 4 (26:29):
J Green and Levonta Bentley, who was a really pivotal guy.

Speaker 5 (26:33):
Both of those guys were pivotal and helping.

Speaker 4 (26:36):
The Buffs stop the run a lot better than they
did in years past. There's just going to be a
lot more energy there. And of course shudre Standers not
throwing at the combine, Travis Hunter not participating like this
will be where all eyes are going to be on
the Buffs and we're able to see what Shodore Standers,
his numbers that he puts up.

Speaker 6 (26:52):
Him and Travis working together. I mean, they're just as
you know, and as the.

Speaker 5 (26:56):
NFL is covering it.

Speaker 4 (26:57):
This is the storyline going into the draft of or
if there's Cam Ward in a variety of other selections.
But you know, throughout college football, I'm just the drastic
change that Colorado's gone under.

Speaker 6 (27:08):
It's just been such a.

Speaker 5 (27:09):
Spotlight on this team, and it's continually.

Speaker 6 (27:12):
Going to be so their names in the media, with.

Speaker 4 (27:14):
Dion Sanders being Shore Sanders and Shiloh Sanders' father, It's
going to be an interesting you know, usual go through
measurements and whatnot.

Speaker 5 (27:22):
But I'm excited to see Shre Sanders throw, and of
course I'm excited for the draft to see where he
lands and what culture he wants to change.

Speaker 6 (27:30):
So I know he was saying that.

Speaker 5 (27:31):
During the combine that if he wants the culture changer,
you should go and get him.

Speaker 2 (27:36):
Talking with Nicky Edwards, buff reporter for Rivals, the editor
at Yahoo Sports, Nikki last one for me as we
look at this buff team for next year, obviously, I
think people are expecting them to take a bit of
a step back with Travis and chadur moving on. What
are you expecting out of this Buffs team as they
continue to try to rebuild this Colorado program that was
you know, left for dead before Prime got there.

Speaker 5 (28:00):
Yeah, it's the prominent person that this offensive has circulated.

Speaker 6 (28:05):
Around is Shure Sanders.

Speaker 5 (28:06):
Of course, he's been the guy that Pat Shermer has
designed plays around.

Speaker 6 (28:10):
That's why partially the.

Speaker 4 (28:12):
Run game wasn't able to get as many opportunities as
they did. I mean, back to back seasons the worst
rushing offense. In this season, they're really focusing on bringing
that run game back into the offense.

Speaker 5 (28:25):
And of course in games last year you can see
how car out of his offense.

Speaker 6 (28:29):
Is one dimensional. So addressing that part of the offense.
Of course, quarterbacks.

Speaker 4 (28:33):
This quarterback competition of Kayden Salter four years at Liberty
making the making the step from G five to Power four,
and then a five star freshman Julian Lewis.

Speaker 6 (28:44):
They're going at it.

Speaker 4 (28:45):
And you mentioned Viyron Left, which you got a guy
that won a Super Bowl with Tom Brady.

Speaker 5 (28:50):
He has such an expertise in developing quarterbacks and of
course he played in the league as well.

Speaker 6 (28:57):
This is a really good setup for what the bus
really want. A guy going from G five to Power
five and then.

Speaker 5 (29:04):
Julian Lewis, the freshman who's trying to establish himself at
the collegiate level.

Speaker 6 (29:08):
So what better guy than I mean Byron Left.

Speaker 4 (29:10):
Wish some NFL expertise to bring these guys into this
offense along with Pat Shermer and really establish their game
from places. You know, Julian Lewis, first year, Kingen Salter
trying to find himself in the new offense. I think
the biggest eyes are going to be on the quarterback.

Speaker 5 (29:28):
Competition this spring, and Coach Prime said he hasn't given
the nod to anyone yet, but the quality that.

Speaker 6 (29:33):
He's looking for between two both of those guys is
his leadership. Ultimately. Kaden Saltz a little.

Speaker 4 (29:38):
Bit more experienced there with four years of college Badner
his belt, but man, Julian Lewis has a really fantastic arm,
really high football a queue just for you know, coming
out of high school. So quarterback competition always makes things interesting,
and I think as well, just on the defensive.

Speaker 5 (29:55):
Side continually with Colorado, there.

Speaker 4 (29:58):
Just hasn't been any consistency or coaching stability or retainment
of key positions. Having Pat Shermer come in for a
second year and signing Robert Livingston to a contract extension,
it just shows their commitment and really developing this team
and building a foundation. Yes, there might be some shortcomings,
but as long as Robert Livingston is orchestrating this defense,

(30:20):
I really do think they're going to be a really
well rounded group.

Speaker 6 (30:23):
Yes, they don't have Travis Hunter, but their secondary is
looking really, really lethal. Warren's half as.

Speaker 4 (30:28):
A pass rush coordinator, a few new assistants on the
defensive line.

Speaker 6 (30:32):
I mean, the expectation is still.

Speaker 4 (30:33):
The same, but it might look a little different, especially
on the offensive side with Pat Shermer having the obligation
to really construct an offense that highlights the run but
also highlights two talented quarterbacks.

Speaker 1 (30:46):
Well, Nicky, we certainly appreciate you joining the show. Look
forward to having you on again soon.

Speaker 2 (30:50):
You guys can follow her on Twitter at Nikki Edwards
with three s's in there and look forward to having
you again on again.

Speaker 6 (30:57):
Sue, Yeah, thanks for having me on.

Speaker 2 (31:00):
Absolutely take care Nicky Edwards, the Buffs beat writer for
Rivals editor at Yahoo's Sports. I've got quite a few
times we get to here. Thanks to Nicky Edwards for
joining us in the last segment.

Speaker 1 (31:15):
You missed a part of that.

Speaker 2 (31:15):
You go Brockos Country, that dot Com, slash podcast wherever
each podcast, Apple, it Tunes, Spotify, You Totally Free, Awesome,
and redesigned iHeartRadio where you get to take it for
Granted podcast as well.

Speaker 1 (31:24):
New episode out, New episode is out. I did not
know this new episodes out or who's.

Speaker 3 (31:28):
Your Uh yeah, I put it together at the court
side at the March Madness goal that I didn't know. Yeah,
it took me a little while to get it done
because I was so enthralled with the games. But uh,
our former co worker BK Brandon Christall joined me here
you go. Got to go check out his new digs,
his podcast studio, and uh, just chat to him outside
of work because I always told him, you know, you're

(31:49):
painting the butt to work with, but you're a good
dude outside of work. So we chatted about music and
life and yeah, it's a it's a good one, about
an hour long.

Speaker 1 (31:56):
So check it out. I need to get a hold
of him. See the next time he's gonna have a
poke poker game.

Speaker 3 (32:01):
Yeah, we are already planning our Nathaniel right left of
the Night Sweats concert at Red Rocks this summer.

Speaker 1 (32:06):
Oh okay, was that an annual tradition. Well it wasn't.

Speaker 3 (32:09):
We've never planned to go together, but he's always there
and I'm always there, So now he's your plus one.

Speaker 1 (32:14):
So now, no, he will be with his plus one.
I'll be with my prayer.

Speaker 3 (32:18):
Oh okay, so we'll probably both get tickets from Brad
White from KBCA.

Speaker 2 (32:21):
Clearly because I was like, I was going to be
your plus one on this. I'm still mad that I
missed out on the whole pd Pablo thing.

Speaker 1 (32:27):
That was crazy. I'm still I'm still upset about that,
although I tell that story like everywhere I go.

Speaker 3 (32:34):
Yeah, I think I think Olivia still has the trash bag, yeah,
or the poncho for those basically it was a trash bag.

Speaker 2 (32:40):
For those of you who don't know, you can probably
listen to Take It for podcast and get an amazing
story about how, yeah, Regrant's wife has a trash bag
from Pete Pablo and what that means five six six
nine zero is the text line got a couple in
here nine to nine followed up on his text earlier,
So thanks again, Ben doesn't thank you and Sean were
not copasthetic. I think the reason I was asking is
because people on twitters seem peeved or concerned with your

(33:01):
mention of you essentially being proven right in a few years.

Speaker 1 (33:04):
About the work environment that Sean is foster.

Speaker 2 (33:06):
There, well, it has been tough for the Broncos to
backfield coaches, and you'll notice they've dipped down into the
college and high school ranks to do that, but that
hasn't impeded their ability to get players in free agency.
And so let's you know, I think that some people
are difficult to work with. That doesn't necessarily mean that
they're bad at their job, and just some people are

(33:27):
difficult to work with and you gotta have the right
mindset for it.

Speaker 1 (33:29):
So you know, I mean, when it comes to that,
when it comes to.

Speaker 2 (33:32):
You know, my comments on that, Yeah, Sean Paige's an
incredibly difficult guy to work for.

Speaker 1 (33:38):
That doesn't mean that you can't.

Speaker 2 (33:39):
I mean, because there have been guys that have worked
for him for long periods of time and successfully Pete
Carmichael or or Lobarti for instance, both those guys knowing
them a long time.

Speaker 3 (33:47):
Well, and you got Darren Rizzi who worked with him
previously and still wanted to come work in them here
in Denver, right.

Speaker 2 (33:51):
In his back so I think it takes a certain
Mindset's I think there's you know, like any story, there's
three sides to it, right, his, hers and the truth.
So I think that that's you know, in my making
those comments about that, Yeah, it's difficult work environment. It's
it's it's a you know, and it's not for everybody,
and that you know, there are people that considered the
toxic work environment. There are people that obviously wanted to

(34:13):
come work in it. So you know, I think it
takes a certain mindset for that. And I'm not saying
that's good, bad, or otherwise. I'm just saying that it's
it's difficult and you have to have a certain mindset
to do it.

Speaker 1 (34:22):
And you know, you know how people are. They take
that the wrong way and run with it.

Speaker 2 (34:25):
Three one five on kay Sports, Orlando was talking about
how Denver was trying to find their identity in the
run game last year, with the Broncos playing around with
different runners and different schemes throughout the year. Given what
personnel they have and what you saw from the team
last year, what run blocking scheme do you think they
should commit to. But it's funny because I think your
I think your tackles are zone guys, and I think

(34:46):
you're into your line are mostly gap guys.

Speaker 1 (34:50):
I think you'll have a mix of both.

Speaker 2 (34:53):
I suspect you'll have a larger amount of gap than
you will then you will zone.

Speaker 1 (35:00):
But I suspect you'll see a little bit of everything.

Speaker 2 (35:02):
It's just funny because those tackles really are where there's
you know mcglinchy and and Garrett Bowles really are zone.

Speaker 1 (35:08):
Excuse me, his own guys.

Speaker 2 (35:09):
And you know Powers was always a gap guy and
and Minors is probably his best in gap. But I
think you'll see a mix of it. You know, it's
it's not just the the offensive line too. I mean
it's just there's the running backs got to be able
to do it too. There's there's a there's a nuance too.
You know, it's all running. You've got to be able

(35:29):
to sort of uh, you gotta be able to sort
of read it and then hit that north cut. And
you can't be one of these dancing around guys, you
know that kind of stuff. You gotta find the you
gotta find the zone and get and get north and
and there's sort of a mentality to it. And we've
seen running backs that have excelled in that scheme over
the years. You just have to have a certain kind
of kind of mentality to it. So I think you'll
see a mix of both, although I suspect you your
majority will be wind up being counterpower gap and we

(35:52):
come back. We've talked to Parker Gabriel from the Denver
Post Book the News earlier day about Jonathan Cooper's contract
Restructural'll get that with him, talk a little abo this.

Speaker 1 (36:00):
New higher le Broncos half. This is the Broncos Country
tonight right here on KA
