Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, welcome into it Rocos Country tonight.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
Ben's been all right, Nick Ferguson, Justin Adams here with
us hanging out at Colorado Showcase, the Colorado Pro Day.
Obviously been fun so far, waiting on Shador Sanders to
throw here it a little bit.
Speaker 1 (00:14):
We've already had some stuff happen.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
We always show the benches, the verticals, the forties, all
that kind of stuff.
Speaker 1 (00:19):
Been an exciting day so far to see some of
these guys.
Speaker 3 (00:21):
I'll tell you.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
Early returns here Shepherd Will Sheppard, the wide receiver jumping
out of the gym. Nick and I had a heart
attack watching him, watching him jubb. He just kept going.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
I thought he was trying to dunk on a twelve
foot goal.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
But we had some fun watching him and and and
you know, it's.
Speaker 1 (00:38):
It's been a it's been a good day.
Speaker 2 (00:39):
Travis obviously in Chador not working out, but Travis's gonna
run some routes for Shadur.
Speaker 1 (00:44):
Nick, what have you seen so far? Obviously you've been
you've been hobbing on with all the celebrities.
Speaker 2 (00:47):
You've been in the vip con section. Justin and I
tried to get behind the velvet rope. We couldn't get there.
I'm trying to be like him when I grow up.
That's what I wanted to do. I got this world,
I'm paying rent to live in it, and he's gonna
be a little light this month.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
Yeah, he's the main.
Speaker 3 (00:59):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (00:59):
Man, I didn't think you were going to come out
it from uh this this angle, But since you did,
I'll just step right in that door. But you know what,
it's kind of the who's who of I guess sports.
Speaker 3 (01:10):
Who's here?
Speaker 4 (01:10):
I mean, obviously Andrew Berry is here with John Jenny
has them for the Cleveland Browns because they're looking for
a quarterback, they're looking for players.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
But this has just been a.
Speaker 4 (01:20):
Great day, great showing while I seeing you and just
think about it.
Speaker 3 (01:23):
You know, justin this is your alma mater.
Speaker 4 (01:25):
I mean, anything that coach prime is a part of,
you know, is going to be big, even even.
Speaker 3 (01:30):
The words showcase.
Speaker 1 (01:32):
It's in bright lights, in the prime time light.
Speaker 2 (01:36):
Vertical job you want to you want to set your shot?
Speaker 1 (01:39):
Make sure yes, I love this.
Speaker 5 (01:41):
I love that. I think you said it earlier. This
is the cookout. By the way, I was lucky.
Speaker 1 (01:46):
To get an invite. There's no reasons.
Speaker 5 (01:51):
So I'm been writing this is beautiful to be able
to see this, to be able to see so many
people out here, just to be able to look at
the talent at the University of Colorado. And here's the
main thing. Obviously we know about shador At Travis, but
there's always somebody who's going to look and say, wait
a minute, I didn't know about this player. I saw
him a little bit on film, but now I get
a chance to see him the le John say Western
Will Sheppard for example, right, So now you look at
(02:13):
him and say, okay, how does he fit on our roster?
Could he fit on a roster? Where can we put him?
That's what A Daylight Today is all about. So it's
really great to see it. You got guys like Todd
Davis from a bronxo coaching for the Bronco Lady some
of the drills out here.
Speaker 6 (02:26):
He's just great to see. So media guys with the NFL, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
That's Joseph out here, defensive coordinator for the Broncos. Used
to be mentioned Todd Davis as well. There's plenty of
guys out here. We ran into, you know, no pun intended.
We ran into ran Carthin earlier trying to introduce herself
to you in cognito is George Wilson.
Speaker 1 (02:44):
And if there's somebody who cannot.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
Be in cognito, it's Ran Carthin, Like you cannot mistake
him for anyone else, you.
Speaker 3 (02:51):
Know, you can't.
Speaker 4 (02:52):
And once again, this is a great thing about football
within itself. It's one of those games that brings everyone together.
And we're looking out amongst this crowd to see how
many people are here for this particular pro day. It
is a big thing because I remember being here last
year and it wasn't, you know, this much of a showcase.
It wasn't as much of a show. But seeing as
(03:14):
many people are here. And I was talking to linebacker
coach Andre Hard before we jumped on about you know,
the fact that a lot.
Speaker 3 (03:21):
Of these coaches and coach prom they should be.
Speaker 4 (03:23):
Proud and what they would have been able to do,
because remember this scene was like one in eleven at
one particular point. Well, yes, I hate to do well, look.
Speaker 7 (03:34):
You can't be a phoenix unless you rise from me exactly,
butter outside of long John Silvers.
Speaker 4 (03:48):
Yes, but just like a phoenix rising from the ashes,
that is something what this program has you know, become
Because I was talking to Advance and I asked him
both he and c J. I said, well, tell me
the last time it was this many people here for
CEU Buff's pro day. They both looked at each other.
That's like, yeah, you're right, it's never happened. So this
(04:11):
tells you that the Coach Prime effect, right, it is
definitely a real thing. And for me, I can't wait
to see wild things from this standpoint as far as
draft day, a pro day, Excuse me, you know what
comes of it two to three years from now, but
this you're lay in the foundation right now today. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
I think the interesting part and an interesting commutent for
me is what is the after Travis Hunter and Shadoor
Sanders era for Colorado and Coach Primes obviously got the
you know, King Salter coming in, you got Juju coming in,
you got different quarterbacks coming in. But it's gonna be
interesting because you know those guys that that had been
a unit that had carried him with his coaching career,
and now you're at a point where your your air
quotes children, your real children, and you're and you're you're
(04:51):
adoptive in this case children are gone, and it's I
wonder if that brings anything different to color if that
changes the way he does anything.
Speaker 1 (04:58):
Or if it's going to be business as usual. And
this is just next iteration.
Speaker 5 (05:00):
No, it does change a little bit, right, because there's
one thing where you have one who's literally your blood,
you have another person who was so good that you
wish you was your blood, right, I mean, that's what
you have at Travis Hunter. But here's the reality of
what's going on at see You. Even with the showcase, right,
this is a made for TV event like we're doing
radio right now, but this is truly a.
Speaker 6 (05:18):
Made for TV spectacle.
Speaker 5 (05:20):
And that's really what everything has become here with University
of Colorado.
Speaker 6 (05:23):
It's not a spectacle. This is what's expected now.
Speaker 5 (05:25):
And so if you're somebody who wants to go and
have that spotlight on you, you'll have it here at
the University of Colorado. You also have your warts too, right,
because if you have your mistakes.
Speaker 6 (05:34):
So if you have something that you.
Speaker 5 (05:34):
Need to work on your weaknesses, it will be shown too.
But for anybody around the country that is looking to
say I want to play at a place where I
know that eyeballs will be on me. This is the
place to be.
Speaker 3 (05:44):
Yeah, this is definitely that place.
Speaker 4 (05:48):
All eyes are on Boulder, not just for this day
justin but I mean for the future. And when you
think about setting a standard, it was something that you know,
when miss A Bean was the owner of the Denver Broncos,
we talked about all the time.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
That was kind of a staple.
Speaker 4 (06:01):
I mean when you think about what time is done
from year one to year two, he's elevated that standard.
So the expectations are high for this program. You have
this big showcase we were we're sitting here at now.
You have Shador, you have Travis, you have Shallow, you
have the Joont Westerer, you know, I mean, you have
so many guys coming out of this program and the ideas.
(06:24):
Can you duplicate the same magic that you had in
year two in year three?
Speaker 5 (06:30):
I don't know. I will say it will be tougher
only because you don't have that experience at quarterback. And
we all know, no matter what level you are, unless
if you're in high school, do you have the best
wing te attack in the world or you're doing an option,
you have to rely on the quarterback, especially in the
Big twelve, like you have to be able to have
a quarterback that's experienced, that can be able to go
and make things happen. We'll see what happens with Kaden Salter.
(06:53):
I think he can be that guy. It won't be
in the same lane obviously that you had with Shador Sanders.
Speaker 6 (06:58):
But it comes back to qu the ball.
Speaker 5 (07:00):
Can you can you go out and say our front
line is been in your front office.
Speaker 1 (07:05):
That's who want to come down here?
Speaker 4 (07:06):
So like, yeah, this is where things are going to
change for me when I look at Pat Sherman in
the office that he ran last year opposed to what
he looks to run this year. Right, obviously you started
from scratcher, two different quarterbacks. Cayden s Salter has the
most experienced coming from Liberty for sure. Right, that doesn't
necessarily mean that during the spring that Juju can't take
(07:27):
a step forward and just kind of steal some of
that thunder.
Speaker 3 (07:30):
But to me, I'm here for that.
Speaker 4 (07:31):
I'm here to see which one of those guys elevate
their level of play to take that position. But it
comes back to Pat Sherman at the end of the day,
are you going to build an offense that's structured for
those guys, or you're going to build one that structured
for you.
Speaker 5 (07:45):
Yeah, that's a difference because if it doesn't work out,
you know, I know we have the music in the background,
but if you hear something else that's firal Leftwich, it
don't work out.
Speaker 8 (07:55):
Barro and b right there for you, you better get
it to go.
Speaker 1 (07:57):
He's got some experience.
Speaker 2 (07:58):
That was an interesting addition I think to this. Stamp
Nick and I talked about it when it was when
it happened, But that was one of those things where
I mean, you bring in a guy who worked with
Tom Brady. That's funny the connections because obviously Shador has
the connection of the Metroshoom with Tuddy. So this again
ties back to tom Brady with all this. Now that
Tom Brady's coming to see you anytime soon, you know.
So these guys do work out there with those hated Raiders,
but uh, you know it's it's there is something to that.
Speaker 1 (08:21):
I mean Byron.
Speaker 2 (08:22):
Leftwich was was a phenomenal quarterback at Marshall, one of
my favorites to watch. I mean, they were the teammates
carrying him after the broken leg and all that. That's
a that's a that's an old timer as far as
that because having that gritty, tough guy who has the
experience at the at the offensive coordinator level, at the
NFL level again, adding that to the room, I think
that's huge out here. And I think and something that
I've compared this to everybody says that the DEA is
(08:43):
doing something new, and he is in.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
A way, but he's taking the Pete Carroll blueprint.
Speaker 2 (08:47):
In a lot of ways and just kind of modernized it.
Speaker 1 (08:51):
And and that was so successful.
Speaker 2 (08:52):
It resurrected USC from the ashes back in the day
after the Paul Hackett.
Speaker 1 (08:55):
Era down there.
Speaker 2 (08:56):
So you know, I really do think that that this
can be something. The question is in the NIL era
and when guys are able to transfer year to year,
exactly how much of that is re recruiting your own
roster and how good are you at that? And I
think get for whatever else you think of coach prime
sat is your strength.
Speaker 5 (09:14):
We also have to talk about the house settlement too,
that's just supposed to come down sometime in April, which
could change the way that college football is going to
be college athletics in general.
Speaker 6 (09:22):
You won't have any more walk ons.
Speaker 1 (09:24):
Roster sizes are going to drop down.
Speaker 5 (09:26):
There's a couple of people I talked to within University
of Colorado that could say, you can have the maximum
of one oh five. We can see see you somewhere
around ninety. So think about that, right. No longer are
the days when you bring in some money and say, hey,
he's a freshman, well, red shirt him, we're going, you know,
get him with the college, get him ready to roll,
and then going from there. No, you need guys who
are ready to play right now. So that's another thing
that could really change things that are happening with them.
Speaker 3 (09:48):
Let's see.
Speaker 4 (09:48):
You know, that makes college football tough, but it makes
high school football even tougher because you say, well, coaches
don't have that much time.
Speaker 3 (09:59):
You don't know what that window is going to be like.
Speaker 4 (10:01):
And with Nils now you're looking to pluck guys from
other teams rosters where those teams have already developed those players.
But at the same time, what happens to the high
school players, those high school seniors who once signed those
letters of intent only that he had the coach hit
them back saying, you know what, justin you know what
you might do one hundred grand and I know we
(10:23):
were committed to you. But there's another guy who is
already in college. He's a sophomore. We're giving him your scholarship.
Speaker 6 (10:31):
Your first of young men have to grow up. That's
just the reality of it.
Speaker 5 (10:34):
And now it's you, hopefully that you have your coaches,
your high school coaches be able to truly be those
father figures to help see these young men all.
Speaker 6 (10:42):
The way through the college process.
Speaker 5 (10:44):
Right you get him, yes, all the way through high school,
but you got to make sure that you see them
all the way to campus pretty much now, because that's
not what is. If one happened, that is what's about
to happen to a lot of great young men, and
so they will have to go to the jew coach,
to the group of five, to the D twos and
figure it out and be able to grow from.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
That's it's a.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
Fascinating conunder because again, you know, we were.
Speaker 1 (11:02):
Talking about this on the show I think the other.
Speaker 2 (11:03):
Night, and forty percent, forty percent of people here in
the portal don't find a home, No, forty percent. That
is a staggering number. So sometimes the grass isn't always greener,
you know, just because you got another university out there
saying you hit the portal, we got the bag doesn't
necessarily mean you're going to be getting the bag.
Speaker 1 (11:19):
Might not have a landing spot. You might wind up
doing the juke or the D two thing.
Speaker 5 (11:22):
And you have to make sure you're actually going to
get the bad because somebody could say, hey, I got
the bag for you yet, and you don't have nothing.
Anybody can say anything. I'm like put that on, put
that in paper with a signature, or you could say, hey,
you leave it here from Colorado. You go to USC
for example. Oh wait, things are more expensive out here
USC than we're here in Colorado.
Speaker 6 (11:38):
That's another thing that you have to put out.
Speaker 4 (11:39):
It's all basic economics, one oh one. Take the class.
Speaker 5 (11:43):
Young men have to go and grow up a whole
lot young men and young women in mind, you to
have to grow up a whole lot faster now, especially
if you're.
Speaker 6 (11:48):
Going to be college.
Speaker 1 (11:49):
Yeah, don't be.
Speaker 2 (11:49):
Don't be in the portal not knowing something, watching your
stock go down faster than the market is today.
Speaker 1 (11:54):
Don't remind me one case.
Speaker 5 (11:57):
Oh you how about this kind of housing markets?
Speaker 3 (11:59):
Nothing? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (12:00):
Rent, can we get the rink of me at the
red around town downs?
Speaker 2 (12:04):
Just for justin said, the red is too damn high.
Oh live out here at the Colorado Showcase. Colorado pro
Davidge went, all right, justin Adams, Nick Ferguson, have some
fun here. Uh, but we haven't we seen a little
bit of the drill, seen a little bit of the
workouts so far. Again, Travis, not gonna work out, will
run some routes for shore.
Speaker 1 (12:22):
What have you seen so far that'sins popped out at you?
Speaker 2 (12:24):
I mean, obviously we said Will Sheppard, you know, jumping
out of the gym, and those are good numbers for him. Uh,
you know, I here Jimmy hor Joe Horns giving Jimmy
Horn ran, Joe Horn got this.
Speaker 1 (12:33):
Show's how old I am? Somebody's gotta pull cell phone
off the.
Speaker 2 (12:36):
Golf host here in a minute, Jimmy Horn out here,
get proved the forty time a little bit. I had
one scout in front of me who had four three
six on his watch.
Speaker 1 (12:44):
The official time here is going to be four four.
Speaker 2 (12:46):
Uh, but but still that's an improvement on the four
four five that he had at the combine. You know,
probably a day three guy, but certainly gonna make somebody happy.
Speaker 4 (12:53):
Well, you know what that was one of the guys
that I was interested in seeing today. Obviously, you know
everyone hears about Travis is Door, but Jimmy Horn did
a lot for himself in Indy, did a lot for
himself today, and just walking around hearing different people talk
about him and thinking about that dog type of mentality,
his work ethic and Ben, You and I were standing
(13:14):
right next to Jimmy and you can see his competitive
drive because as his teammates were doing the vertical jump,
he was saying, look, if anyone beats my vertical jump,
I know I was gonna jump today, but I might
do it just to overtake them. And I told him,
I say, look, that's that competitive drive that's going to
carry you far as a professional.
Speaker 5 (13:31):
Yeah, ask this, out of the wide receivers, which one
would you say you would like to see us going?
Speaker 1 (13:36):
Oh man, actually right?
Speaker 5 (13:37):
I mean, wellso we don't know if they're going to
do that.
Speaker 1 (13:38):
But if there was one guy you was.
Speaker 2 (13:40):
Saying, well, I would say Jimmy, except you've already got
more than them, so I'm probably gonna go with Shephard
just because he's got that big time pogo stick. I
cannot jump you. We put him in the red zone.
Oh so you're running the vine ved l evanding recordless
sunt and Shepherd in.
Speaker 1 (13:52):
The end zone. Just toss the ball, let him go
get it.
Speaker 5 (13:54):
That's the way I look at this.
Speaker 6 (13:55):
I look at who's going to be an orange blue?
Speaker 1 (13:57):
Who do you want an orange blue?
Speaker 6 (13:59):
And that's one guy that will obviously Will Sheppard.
Speaker 5 (14:00):
I think the Jontay Western is another guy who's sneaking
to where. You know, if he did find his way
to the Broncos, he could say, oh kava final maybe
in the red zone, third and five type of guy,
kind of sold of like the male severers. Maybe not
exactly like him, but somewhere where he could be a
sure headed receiver that could be able to go and
catch the ball those tight spaces. That could be another
guy who loves seats.
Speaker 2 (14:18):
Yeah, four or five today on his forty maybe a
little bit lower than he would have probably want him,
but he had a knack for creating separation on his own.
Maybe the long speed wasn't there, but he did have
a knack for creating some separation.
Speaker 3 (14:28):
You can say for me, you.
Speaker 4 (14:29):
Know, I gotta stick what I know, true and blue,
and I'm gonna go back to the defense, right, you know,
think about Levonte Bentley and I was talking to Andre
Hart and we definitely agree. Man, this kid is a
game changer. He is one of those stumpers that were
always talking about a guy who strikes.
Speaker 3 (14:46):
People all the time.
Speaker 4 (14:47):
Because when you look at that Mike linebacker position, you
want someone getting downhill who's not absorbing the contact, but
delivering the contact and knowing as oh, hey listen.
Speaker 3 (14:56):
I know the.
Speaker 4 (14:57):
Broncos already have a green law, but you can never
be too short of having athletic linebackers.
Speaker 3 (15:03):
So even though I know Will Shepherd was.
Speaker 4 (15:06):
Definitely impressive today, I gotta go with my runs and
I gotta go defense.
Speaker 6 (15:10):
Do we not care about anybody on the offensive line?
Speaker 5 (15:12):
By the way, just asking me.
Speaker 2 (15:13):
Well, I think we saw this offensive line last year,
and we need somebody, a strong developer that offensive live
at the y. That's how you church it up, right,
That's how you church it up.
Speaker 1 (15:24):
Like it right?
Speaker 2 (15:25):
Yeah, oh my god, real coaches, son, right now, we
need somebody. These guys are probably more developmental offensive live
in at the end maybe a year of the UFL.
Speaker 1 (15:34):
I'm just saying, get them, get some right. If we
saw the.
Speaker 2 (15:36):
Protection last year, and it was not exactly where you
wanted it to be.
Speaker 5 (15:39):
He's someone that pro experience.
Speaker 3 (15:41):
Well, you know what, it's.
Speaker 4 (15:42):
Work justin No one really cares about the offensive lineman
until they start holding.
Speaker 5 (15:45):
Yeah that's it, and they hold every play.
Speaker 4 (15:47):
Yes, every play. But listen, it's not called if you
move your feet. That's all I'm saying that. That is
so true, That is so true. We're seeing Shane Coach
by the way by in front of us. That's one
guy can mak a m patch somewhere in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (15:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (16:00):
I've seen a lot of guys who go third day undrafted.
When you look up any final say, okay to have
a five, it's in your career.
Speaker 6 (16:05):
In the NFL.
Speaker 1 (16:06):
I think Shane Posts could be one of those guys.
Speaker 5 (16:08):
It's all about where you go.
Speaker 3 (16:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (16:10):
I thought he had a pretty good a pretty good
day as far as the workouts and stuff going. Again,
his numbers in firm let me find him here. Sorry,
I'm slacking here. I have trying to flip tabs all
at once. Coach measured in sixty three two ninety one
twenty nine reps on the bench, a thirty inch vertical
for the big fellow too. Five one to two in
the forty might be u you know, might be approaching
all bright speed there, But as long as they go
(16:33):
win in the phone, yeah, they're.
Speaker 1 (16:34):
Right right, right, right right here.
Speaker 2 (16:35):
Although I tell you what, man, the weirdest thing, like,
you know, these workouts, there's some things that don't correlate
at all or whatever, But for offensive lineman, the forty
yard dash actually is a full lead.
Speaker 1 (16:44):
Like guys think the correlation between.
Speaker 2 (16:46):
NFL success weirdest thing ever, what there actually is a
correlation between that for whatever reason.
Speaker 1 (16:51):
I don't know what the reason is, but there is.
Speaker 4 (16:53):
Well you look at maybe the ten yard split and
just kind of see what they can.
Speaker 3 (16:57):
Do as far as level of exposure.
Speaker 2 (16:58):
Yeah, we got to hit a break US country tonight.
Speaker 4 (17:00):
We'll be down after this here at the Buffs showcase
here and then Boulder, I mean with Shane Coach and
Justin Adams being at a step away for a bit
of shame.
Speaker 3 (17:11):
I mean, what do you make of this whole showcase for.
Speaker 4 (17:14):
The first time, because I've never seen this many people
here for any bus pro day.
Speaker 3 (17:19):
How's it been? Forget that's far?
Speaker 8 (17:21):
I mean, you know, this is great from a player's standpoint,
you know, having all the scouts here, having the media
here like y'all, and then just having you know, family here, fans,
you know whatnot, you know, people to come support, and
I mean this is great, right. You know, some places
don't get this many people to show up and have
this much support and this much odes on them. So
I mean that's the thanks to coach prim and all
he's done for us, and also all the players here.
(17:43):
You know, everything we put on the field, you know,
our tape and everything that we've achieved this season and
the past two seasons being here.
Speaker 9 (17:49):
So man, it's just it's just beautiful to see this. Man,
really is Well, you.
Speaker 5 (17:53):
Came here to Boulder two years ago, you're you're a
pretty trip. Could you imagine two years later you see
something like this.
Speaker 9 (18:00):
Okay, man, you know.
Speaker 8 (18:03):
You want to say yeah, but I don't know, Like
this is this is just crazy, right, you know, I
just think a lot of things I couldn't imagine. You know,
all the games, all the moments, you know, I Corrao State,
that first year, Baylor, this past year, Nebraska, that first year,
you know, being nine to four, making a bowl game,
and it's just all those moments, all the hard times,
all the good times. You know, I think it's it
(18:25):
just made us who we are today and just just
put us in this position.
Speaker 9 (18:28):
You know, it's just so many things that were in
for four and you look.
Speaker 8 (18:31):
Back on and it's crazy to think of right now,
but I'm sure fifteen years down the line, twenty years downline,
it's gonna be even crazier. You see this, you know,
see all the moments that we had here.
Speaker 3 (18:41):
So how did make you feel?
Speaker 4 (18:42):
Knowing as though, like you know, two years ago, none
of this was even possible. No one thought that this
many people will be drawn to the program the way
that they have, And when you look around the country,
I mean see you buffs have made the impact just
not here at Voulder, but around the country. But knowing
as the so that you were at the precipice you
at the beginning of starting all of this, what would
(19:05):
you like to say for anyone looking at this program
or a high school senior and they try to figure
out where to play their college, But what would you
tell them about your experience here at Bolder?
Speaker 8 (19:15):
I think if you really want to come here, you
got to be someone who loves changing the place you know,
I think and like I said, bunk over there. You know,
I'd go back to my first conversation coach Konma official.
You know, he told me that we're looking for change
makers here and if you aren't that, then this is
the place you want to be a part of, you know,
just being from that first conversation at four in a year,
you know, nine to four this year not the goal
(19:37):
we wanted, but.
Speaker 9 (19:38):
You know, still a great season and stuff itself. You
don't just change the program from that one eleven team.
Speaker 8 (19:43):
I think that's what it takes. You know, we set
the standard here, you know, we set the culture. But
even from then, like you got to take it up
the next level.
Speaker 3 (19:49):
You got to be even made and.
Speaker 8 (19:50):
We work and I hope that's what happens for you guys,
I know, will you know, I've seen some of the
spring practics are here and just seeing the D line,
you know, just that group and how much focused those
guys are already Big Quinn Peek and so many others
already Taja and just seeing them girls playing on it
for the few passes I haven't seen, so man, I
just I just love to see it.
Speaker 9 (20:08):
And if you want to change the program if you
want to continue to be great.
Speaker 5 (20:11):
And that's what you do when they're supposed to come
to give us the story, give us something about you
that whether it's your door, Shallow, what are these guys
that you've been able to play with just about how
they've been changed? Just agents within the university color I lived, man.
But what's what thing you could say that really stands
out amongst the where you say, this is the reason
why things slipped around so quickly in two years?
Speaker 9 (20:31):
You know, I think the big thing is the culture.
Speaker 8 (20:33):
You know, I think one of my main focuses from
that first year and going in this year. You know,
Cam Shallow, you're doing all of them. I think you
know that summer we have so many transfer to come in.
You know, just that's short time span.
Speaker 3 (20:43):
It's hard.
Speaker 1 (20:44):
It's hard to build a thing.
Speaker 9 (20:45):
It's hard to build a team within that time frame.
Speaker 5 (20:47):
You know.
Speaker 8 (20:48):
I think just folks on that this year this summer
knowing like this is what we need to do, like
we know this thing. We've been here for a year
and now we know what the culture needs to look like.
And just taking that focus in that summer and building
a team, building the chemistry. You know, that's just what
has made us so successful as Passion obviously guys like
Trav and Chador. Just being hard on my offense, you
me can be hard on the defense and just focusing
(21:09):
on change every single day, you know. And that's beside
the coaches like de a little Sap coach Pond being
on us all the time. You know, it was just
that energy that want to this really just helped.
Speaker 3 (21:19):
Us grow as a program.
Speaker 4 (21:21):
We're talking to Dean was Alignment Shane coach here at
Buff's showcase and their pro day.
Speaker 3 (21:27):
So when you look.
Speaker 4 (21:28):
At your career here, what would you have what would
you say that that you need to work on to
make sure that you're prepared for that next level?
Speaker 9 (21:36):
Work on for that next level.
Speaker 4 (21:39):
Oh, is there anything about your game is okay, I
want to be better on my curse, my first step.
Speaker 3 (21:45):
I want to be better with my head.
Speaker 4 (21:46):
What is it about your game that you figures though
that you need to improve on so you can be
the best player you can't be on the next level?
Speaker 8 (21:53):
Okay, I always want to quick a first step, I
would say, but I think more so for me, you know,
just really.
Speaker 9 (21:59):
Truly being violent in those inside guys.
Speaker 8 (22:02):
You know, in my college career, I played zero through nine,
I played in, I played three.
Speaker 5 (22:05):
Tech, I played zero nos.
Speaker 8 (22:07):
So I think it's just continue to grow in those
inside positions. You know, I played in most of my
life and at Dartmouth, you know a little bit here,
but mostly here I've been at three tech and nose.
I think just truly embracing that and attacking that and
just being better at the top of my rush, rushing inside.
I think that's gonna make me a great player. Already
have the versatility, already have the once so I had
to drive physicality, but just going deeper in that focus,
(22:30):
deeper on that, I know I can get a player
that don't want to.
Speaker 5 (22:32):
Do what's the teams that you've had a chance to
talk to, where's kind of draft right and you've been
here so far for me late.
Speaker 8 (22:39):
Round undrafted, you know, talk to a lot of teams
at the Hula Bowl, Giants, Arizona Saints, coach Bears, charged,
a few other teams, and just that same thing, you know,
that versatility and I want you that drive to explosiveness
and just can teemb that player. And that's besides the
tangibles that I bring to the team and bring to
the locker room.
Speaker 4 (23:00):
If you were, it's just say coaching or yourself right like,
because because as players we have those moments where we
don't always play our best, but some guys make it
the best of us. But put me in the frame
of mind is game time, you're out there, you pass
Russia and.
Speaker 3 (23:18):
Something doesn't go well for you, what is it.
Speaker 4 (23:20):
That you oft to reflect on to help get you
going to make sure that you out there making another
positive play.
Speaker 9 (23:26):
I know a lot of time for me, I can overthink,
you know, I can.
Speaker 8 (23:28):
Think, oh, dang, I need to do this better out theatership.
But at the same time, it's like football and Easton game,
you know. So I know like when I don't think,
when I just go, I trust my technique. I trust
all I've been working on in practice all week, and
when I go with successful, so I know there's something
bad having some of them go my way. And I
started to think about like all dang and the switch
and stuff. I'll just be like, trust your technique, trust
you to larne twice what you've done and go do it.
(23:49):
You'll be fine.
Speaker 6 (23:51):
So all right, let's say you sitting right in front
of a coach.
Speaker 5 (23:53):
Right now, you're set in front of a team, got
a GM and everything all right, some for you to
sell yourself home?
Speaker 1 (23:58):
Why should you be on that team?
Speaker 9 (24:00):
Everywhere?
Speaker 5 (24:00):
All gone?
Speaker 9 (24:01):
I've been a leader since pee weeks, since high.
Speaker 8 (24:03):
School, since Dartmouth here, and I've helped change programs.
Speaker 9 (24:06):
I've been a part of programs.
Speaker 8 (24:08):
And that's being a great player for the team in
the locker room as a leader and being wanted to
force that change and the forced that coach and forced
the stand. And that's just intangibles. There's so many more.
But as a player, relentlessness, disruptive, violent, physical, explosive, and versatility.
I mean I played everyone in the D line, continue
to play everyone in the D line. And that's I mean,
how many people can say that them? People can say
(24:30):
they play zero and they played a non team. So
I think just being able to do that, having that versatility,
having those intangibles of being a leader, being a great,
great guy in the locker room and with the teammates,
I don't think get asked for a better play to table.
Speaker 1 (24:42):
I love that.
Speaker 5 (24:42):
All that sounds great, But here's my biggest thing right here, man,
what did I do with be on your arm, play man.
Speaker 3 (24:48):
A little bit.
Speaker 1 (24:48):
Like I'm in the gym and I'm trying to do
my tape.
Speaker 9 (24:51):
Brother, see you do it?
Speaker 1 (24:52):
Come on?
Speaker 5 (24:52):
What's up that? A lot of push ups every night
and a whole bunch of Chipotle.
Speaker 1 (24:57):
Oh my god, that's it. Wait, pushups, bitch, press chipotle. Yeah,
that's it.
Speaker 9 (25:04):
Man, you know I gotta put it.
Speaker 8 (25:05):
So it's always been hard for me to game weight
like that's that's been my challenge.
Speaker 9 (25:09):
You know, some people it's hard to game with some
it was hard to lose weight. I've always had a
pound gaining weight, like I could drop the two seventy tomorrow, truly.
Speaker 8 (25:16):
So this whole train of time, you know, I played
the season like two eighty to eighty five, and I
knew now for this day, like I need.
Speaker 9 (25:23):
To be two ninety two ninety something.
Speaker 8 (25:24):
So it was literally five meals a day, Chipotle at
the end of the day, chapole in the middle, wait
gainer at night, whole bunch of pushing, a whole bunch
of bit press, and you know, just to wait too
ninety one.
Speaker 1 (25:35):
To day that I was like, Okay, that's good. That's good
for me, because it was.
Speaker 9 (25:38):
It was long it was long nights taking those brito
down was good. No, but it was a long night
trying to put that chipotle in me bag. We made
it here, so I'm good.
Speaker 1 (25:46):
That's all right. We're were playing in that.
Speaker 5 (25:48):
What we're putting in that, that burrito was okay, come on,
put we're doing in there.
Speaker 9 (25:52):
Double chicken, extra rising, really triple rize. You need the
rice one there, you go.
Speaker 8 (25:57):
Corn, you go to ram sausa green saucer, sour cream cheese,
and you go let us And then if I really
to get some way, I do chips and.
Speaker 9 (26:05):
Guah, And that's that's the order.
Speaker 5 (26:07):
So that's the first one.
Speaker 8 (26:09):
You know, if I really leave the game with a
lost a lot of weight that day, I get a burrito.
Speaker 5 (26:12):
If I'm a little little lighter.
Speaker 8 (26:14):
I've got a little more leeweight than I get an
abrito bart See.
Speaker 2 (26:17):
I can't believe Chippota never hit you up on a
Nio del man.
Speaker 9 (26:20):
Come, I need some sucking chepol I will line around.
I need to get I need to get right.
Speaker 3 (26:24):
Well.
Speaker 4 (26:24):
See this is a This has been a great opportunity
for you to go out to uh Chippole and tell me, hey,
still holler at me. Now I'm not I'm not in college,
but you still could do a sponsorship deal my thing.
Speaker 3 (26:35):
And I'll get you out of here with this one.
Speaker 4 (26:37):
When you leave this school and you go off and
you walk on your professional career, which you're taking the
first steps.
Speaker 3 (26:44):
Now, what's gonna.
Speaker 4 (26:45):
Be one of those fond memories that you take away
something that happened in the game, something a coach said
in the meeting that you're going to carry throughout your
career because it had a huge impact on you as
a player, but also as a man.
Speaker 5 (27:01):
You know what.
Speaker 8 (27:02):
There's so many, but I think I think too right.
I think Baylor game was a big one this year.
You know, I think just staying in it right, you
know we had d let Sap there, you know, just
always keeping that faith, you know, no matter what to
score it. I think that's I mean both years we
played so hard as a team, you know, when it
was down, when it was up, no matter what, we
always finished the game. We all finished out strong. I
(27:23):
think that game for sure.
Speaker 9 (27:24):
You know what was it?
Speaker 8 (27:25):
We were down with six seven before that Mary bro
and let's to see that and as soon as as
soon as it happened, we knew we won the game.
That's just just that confidence that I believe that this
team has had, and just you know, just being able
to stay inside these four walls.
Speaker 9 (27:38):
Man, you know, so much outside noise with us.
Speaker 8 (27:41):
You know, from media, from fans, from haters, you know,
more haters and fans honestly, and just be able to
be focused, you know, take every every day and be
better that next day. I think that's one of the
biggest things I'll take away from here. And the second
would be I think just d Lewis SAP this year.
You know just how much the D line room grew
from them and continue to grow with Peco and SAP
(28:01):
this past year. But just every day, Dudeoul just say,
we walked through this building.
Speaker 9 (28:05):
You know it's ready.
Speaker 5 (28:06):
It's ready.
Speaker 8 (28:07):
You know, keep in mindset, gets your mind right because
it's tell him to work, it's not no.
Speaker 9 (28:10):
So I think that that mindset that he brought coached
South Brown, the energy that brought the.
Speaker 8 (28:14):
Room, Like if I'm in any D room, d lion
room in the league, like that's what needs to look like.
Speaker 9 (28:19):
You know, those guys played ten.
Speaker 8 (28:21):
Push years soap Hall of Fame or do with a
great NFL player and coach, you know, just being to
carry that coulch wherever I go.
Speaker 9 (28:28):
I think he's one thing I'll take away.
Speaker 5 (28:29):
But at fire, I mean what type of things they
teach you that you learn from, you know, being with
sapping every they pass rushboos.
Speaker 1 (28:35):
What are the things that you learn real.
Speaker 8 (28:37):
Real taking away his passion, you know, stop love across top,
you know, just being able to talk to.
Speaker 9 (28:41):
Somebody who vinted it.
Speaker 8 (28:42):
You know, like you said, I think about what one
hundred two and a half sacks off of it, just
you know, just really to walk through that thing with
him and just become a better player that way.
Speaker 1 (28:49):
Passion and to see.
Speaker 8 (28:50):
His mindset the game, you know, just relentless attack, relentless attack.
Speaker 1 (28:53):
Go go go.
Speaker 8 (28:54):
And I think deal just helped me be just so
much better typically with my hand as a player, you know,
just a loong how to play d line better and
just see the game, you.
Speaker 9 (29:02):
Know, and I'm more a full way and I've sided
to see it before.
Speaker 8 (29:05):
But you know, just take that from a former NFL coach,
former NFL player, and understand a run scheme, understand the
past scheme, understanding how to set up games, how to
run them, right, you know, just having those guys in
that room just maybe be such a great player this year.
Speaker 4 (29:19):
I love that for shame and thank you for giving
us some time. I know it's crazy around there, so
many people, and I know you got some other.
Speaker 3 (29:26):
Things that you need to do. But man, I'm proud
of you.
Speaker 4 (29:29):
As a player, of plow of this program, and I'm proud.
Speaker 3 (29:32):
Of what what you guys are build thus far.
Speaker 4 (29:35):
So you should feel that same way because there's a
lot of young players who aspire to get to this particular.
Speaker 3 (29:40):
Point, and you guys show.
Speaker 4 (29:42):
Them what the love of hard work, when you put
it in, what those fruits of the labor can actually bear. Man,
So appreciate you, man, and they have an awesome journey.
And I'll leave you with this. Just be let to say,
come draft things. Sometimes some team doesn't pick you up.
They pick you up as a free agent, don't It
was though white hands there because I was an undrafted player.
(30:04):
Played a decade in the NFL as an undrafted player.
So I'm here to tell you, man, believe in your dream.
Keep working your tail off, man, and I hope that
God continues your bless you.
Speaker 9 (30:14):
So I appreciate that absolutely sir appreciated.
Speaker 1 (30:18):
Stay in touch with my brother.
Speaker 6 (30:18):
Yeah, I stay in touch with I was saying to
stay in touch with help.
Speaker 5 (30:22):
I love it now. But you know were you're talking
about somebody that's a great mentor.
Speaker 1 (30:25):
He's the man to be right there, get that room play.
Speaker 5 (30:29):
I mean, I love all the way we're doing this,
all the man we give it up, numbers and everything.
Speaker 1 (30:32):
That's what I'm talking about.
Speaker 5 (30:35):
Man, you know that's just great mentorship, you know, honestly,
that's what this is all about. This is all about
being able to meet up with great people. It's all
about being able to go and see, yes, what your
tealent can do, but it's building up relationships only when
you're playing a game of football, but also afterwards as well,
because let's call it what it is. We're all going
out to hang up the cleats one day. So to
be able to do this, to be able to see y'all,
to be able to get together is a huge thing.
(30:56):
So Shane, man, great to have you here.
Speaker 3 (30:57):
This is dy small in.
Speaker 4 (31:07):
Yes, absolutely, I mean listen, man, that was Shane Coach
right there, and uh, you know great. Can I wish
nothing but the best for him moving forward as he
looks to continue to live out his NFL dreams. Man,
so great. Great sitting down talking with that young man,
you could tell that he's not only well coached, but
(31:30):
well groom and that speaks to this see you books
coaches staff.
Speaker 1 (31:34):
Yeah, it's really great to be able to see that.
Speaker 10 (31:35):
But you also see like how relatable he is as
a young man and how mature he is too, right, Nick,
Like you just see everything from there, And just like
what you say, even if he doesn't go drafted, and
he goes undrafted, that's the type of player that could
make something happen and could be able to play Adeck
in Italy like you did.
Speaker 3 (31:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (31:51):
And because once again, and I was saying this to
someone earlier, if you don't believe in yourself, how can
you convince someone else to believe in you? And you
have to invest in you. And this is by far
one of the toughest job interviews out there right that
I've ever experienced, because everything is based on your physical ability,
(32:14):
but sometimes as a tendency for us to overthink things and.
Speaker 3 (32:17):
Talk ourselves out of it.
Speaker 4 (32:18):
As we watch these linebackers drills that are taking place
on the field.
Speaker 5 (32:22):
Right now, what's your biggest indicator when you look at
all these different trails, especially linebacker trills, what's your biggest
indicator of what a god could do at the next level.
Speaker 4 (32:31):
You know, everything starts with footwork. I don't care what
sport you're talking about. Everything starts with the footwork. And
for me, if I'm watching this that we're watching these
drills right now, I'm not watching anything that's happening above
the waste. I'm watching everything that happens below the waste,
because those are the types of beings and the fundamentals
that puts you in the rights the right situation to
(32:51):
be successful and to make plays.
Speaker 1 (32:54):
Love it. I just love it.
Speaker 5 (32:55):
All about the footwork. That's what the game comes back
down to. If you don't have footwork, you can't do anything,
no matter what it is.
Speaker 1 (33:01):
So it's great to see, well, yeah it is.
Speaker 3 (33:03):
And uh right now it.
Speaker 4 (33:06):
Looks like the wide receivers are getting set to uh
warm up. It gets set. I see Broncos head coach
Sean Payton is uh uh in the building right now,
and everyone is here like Andrew Barry from the Cleveland
Browns and has them.
Speaker 3 (33:21):
He's here, and it's just like, why are they here.
Speaker 2 (33:24):
Well, I was just telling Shelby I was on with
the other guys over there for a second. I was
just telling Shelby that, look, I was trying to double
your salary when they're talking to have them.
Speaker 1 (33:31):
Man send to send to check my way.
Speaker 2 (33:35):
So uh no, yeah, I get ready to get this
thing going to the marquee portion of it. I think
here with Wisha door throwing and Travis's gonna be running
some routes for him, looks like we're going to be
getting into that here. Uh in just a minute again
his Caway's coverage of the Colorado Showcase, the Colorado Pro
Day here at CEU bench. But all Bradley Ferguson, Justin
Adams here, uh with you guys, and yeah, you guys
had the great interview.
Speaker 3 (33:55):
There with Shane Coch Yeah Shane Oaks And I.
Speaker 2 (33:58):
Didn't want to interrupt and want to jump in there
and interrupted any.
Speaker 4 (34:01):
But what a polish young man, you know, Yes, once
once again, you know you can tell that he's well coached,
he's well grown, and that speaks volumes to coach Prime
and his coaching staff because when they came here, they
said it wasn't just about coaching players. It was about
coaching men and Shane Coates. I mean, he is a
great young man. That's why I'm hoping that he's able
to have an opportunity to play in the league, but
(34:23):
not just play.
Speaker 3 (34:24):
There, but just be there for a long period of time.
Speaker 2 (34:26):
All Right, when we come back, we're gonna break down
this throwing day from Schador. Looks like he opens it
with a roll out to the right and a short,
shallow crossing dump off there. But we'll get into what's
going on with this thing. Is he completes another pass.
You're listening to Keawe's continuing coverage of the Colorado Showcase
here at CEU. Ben but Albright, Nick Ferguson, Justin Adams,
we will be back.
