Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is Broncos Country Tonight, Western Tackle.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
Here we helping receives.

Speaker 1 (00:09):
On the official home of the Broncos. All Right, All
Night KOA.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
Welcome to it. Broncos Country Tonight Short Show Edition post
Rockies five six six nine, Zeros Tex Line. Interesting day
around Denver in sports, the big news leading right off
the bat would be that the Denver Nuggets have fired
head coach Michael Malone and general manager Calvin Booth. Now

(00:43):
con Booth technically is not getting his contract extended, but
he's for all intents and purposes fired. Moves come with
the Nuggets sitting in fourth place in the Western Conference
with just three games left in the regular season. Listeners
to this show won't be stunned because we we talked
about it last night. We also talked about it last
week when we had gotten wined that it was potentially

(01:05):
coming down the pike. The Nuggets are forty seven and
thirty two in the middle of a tight playoff race.
Smloane's firing also comes just two years after he led
the team to a championship. Assistant David Adalman will take
over as the team's interim head coach. Adaman's the son
of Romer NBA head coach Rick Adelman. Team vice chair

(01:27):
Josh Cronkey confirmed the firing in a statement this morning,
saying it was quote not made lightly and was evaluated
very carefully. He added that the move was made to
give the Nuggats the best chance at competing for the
twenty twenty five NBA Championship. The move ties an NBA
record for the latest coaching change in league history. I
had actually thought it was the latest, but out of

(01:49):
ties at Hube Brown was fired by the Atlanta Hawks,
which is three games left after the nineteen eighty one
regular season. Hawks for thirty one and forty eight at
the time of Brown's firing. Five of the last seven
coaches to win the NBA Championship have now been fired,
with Malone joining Nick Nurse by the Raptors Frank Vogel,

(02:09):
but Lakers Mike Buttonholtzer from the Bucks and Tyron Loof
from the Calves. Malone and Booth reportedly had been odds
throughout the season, and I think we know that sources
tell us that they were, you know, crap talk at
each other behind each other's backs. I wouldn't talk to
each other, you did. It was a toxic work environment

(02:31):
between the two of them. Malone and Booth disagreed over
personnel decisions among other matters, and it's felt like the
signs were there that this wasn't going to end well.
But over the last i want to say, about two weeks,
really got some some intel over there that something like

(02:54):
this was coming down the pike. That's why we talked
about it twice. That's why we spent those segments on it,
specifically the same yesterday. And we're getting a lot of
texts about why are we talking about the Nuggets in
this particular situation. Well, now, you know, you know, it's
just sometimes you can't say something, so you try to
nudge you guys without actually saying that. That was one

(03:14):
of those times. While the Nuggets haven't performed as well
compared to last season, when they win fifty seven to
twenty five, it completely collapse. This year, the team has
yet to clinch a playoff spot, but certainly sits in
a strong position with a few games left in the
regular season. But with the playoff spot on the line,

(03:35):
they're on a four game losing streak and David Adelman
will be tasked with turning that around and getting the
team to play its best ball in the postseason. Obviously,
it helps that Addleman has Nicole Yokich, arguably the best
player in the game right now, but despite that, the
Nuggets have struggled to put effective pieces around him. This season,
the team has seen its defense slip considerably. Nuggets are

(03:57):
allowing one hundred and seventeen point one points per game
to opponent's, one of the marks in the league. Malone's
tenure may have ended abruptly, but it's it's hard of
hard to argue with his success here in Denver. In
ten seasons with the Nuggets, Malone, who's fifty three, posted
a four to seventy one and three twenty seven record.
That's a fifty nine percent winning percentage. But August reached

(04:17):
the playoff six times, winning the NBA Championship in twenty
twenty three. Prior to joining the Nuggets, Malone it's spent
two seasons with the Sacramento Kings, where he had a
three to six to eight winning percentage. But you know,
and given his age and success here, he should draw
national attention from you know, a number of teams looking
for a new coach. In the offseason, Booth joined the
Nuggets in twenty twenty, but his tenuine draft picks has

(04:40):
been pretty spotty, with only Christian Brown developing into a starter.
Team traded four de Ron Holmes during the twenty twenty
four draft. He tore his achilles days later and has
not played his entire rookie season with the team. David Adelman,
who's the son as I mentioned, a former NBA player
and coach. Rick Adelman, got his coaching start with the
Minnesota Timberwolves before heading to the Orlando Magic for a season.

(05:02):
Joined the Nuggets for the seventeen eighteen NBA season, has
been assistant with the team ever since, and he has
served in assistant roles all over his coaching career. Their
first game will be tomorrow Wednesday, which will mark the
first time he served as a head coach during an
NBA game. He's gotten some you know, some interim filling,
you know that kind of stuff. Being an actual head coach.
This will be his first time with that. It's sort

(05:27):
of a fascinating thing, I think, because I think a
lot of people it was interesting to me to watch
social media because this was something that that myself and
Nick knew was coming down, and it was sort of
interesting to look around in the market and find out
who the actual basketball insiders are in the Dever market.
Maybe that's one of those weird things for me, because

(05:48):
you know, I mean, like in doing my job, I
am looking over my shoulders sometimes and I'm looking over
my shoulder, like, Okay, who are the other people in
town who know things? And you could tell by who
puts what out like who actually knows something and who doesn't.
And so it was funny to watch with this basketball
news that I was, I was kind of embargoed on
like who knew what they were talking about and who didn't?

(06:09):
It was it was it was definitely I mean, maybe,
like I said, maybe that's a little inside baseball. Maybe
that's just be but it's sort of fascinating to sort
of see that and and kind of get a pulse
of who actually knows what they're talking about in regard
to the covering that team. I think based on the
conversations I've had, Adaman's gonna get a fair shake here
to win the job. If the Nuggets rise to the

(06:31):
occasion here, he could very well be the next head
coach of the Never Nuggets. If not, then they'll open
it up to a full search. Uh, and there are
several names to keep in mind. I would suggest that
if you want to get your head around who some
of those names could be, look for guys with a

(06:53):
with a pick and roll philosophy experience and dealing with
the with the europlayer. And I think they want somebody
with previous head coaching experience, but I don't think that
they're I think they want that, but I don't think
that's a prerequisite. So just something to just something to

(07:13):
keep your eye on. But I you know, from what
I've been told, nikolay Yokitch absolutely signed off on this. Uh,
it was not something that was a surprise internally. You know,
Jokicic is frustrated and and Malone's message just wasn't resonating anymore.

(07:35):
I mean had gotten to the point where people in
the locker room just weren't, you know, weren't paying attention.
We're taking him seriously and and to you know, to
his point, Malone sort of pointed that out a couple
of weeks ago in an interview. There's a there's a
video clip out there you have to probably dig define it,
but uh, where he talks about you know, guys saying, hey,
coach is tripping. But you know he's like, but they're

(07:56):
not watching film. I have to crank up the film.
We have to get the film in front in order
get to watch film. And I'll tell you, Nicola Jokic
is frustrated. He's not just frustrated by a front office
that's putting the wrong people around him and a coach
whose message isn't resonating. He's frustrated by teammates that are
holding up their end. And Cole is not the kind
of guy to be the vocal guy in the locker room.

(08:20):
He's the guy to go to the general, go to
the head coach, and have the general talk to the troops. Right,
And so that's sort of what's happened is Nicole has
gone and that message just hasn't resonated. So you know,
you got to the point where, for whatever you think
of Michael Malone, and I think he's a good coach,
don't get me wrong. I think that at the end

(08:47):
of the day, there are different kinds of coaches for
an organization. I'll give you a Broncos example to kind
of kind of square this. Michael Malone in a lot
of ways is like John Fox. John Fox is going
to take your team and he's gonna make them better.

Speaker 1 (09:03):
Right.

Speaker 2 (09:04):
John Fox hit that to Carolina, did it in Denver,
less so in Chicago. But there were other plans there.
There are other problems there. But he's a guy that
takes your team and he makes you a playoff caliber,
playoff contending team. But the knock on John Fox was
he couldn't win the Big one. Right now, I'm alone
actually did win the Big one, I know three, But

(09:25):
in a lot of ways, it sort of seemed like
he was a coach that could who had the best
player in the world and could get a team to
the playoffs, but couldn't really get them situationally past things
they probably should have situationally got passed. And when the
message stops resonating and it had, that's the part where

(09:50):
you've got to start looking elsewhere. And so like for instance,
with the Broncos, they thought they'd gotten as far with
John Fox and Peyton Manning as they could, they brought
in Gary Kubiak and what happened They got a Super Bowl.
And so you know, I again, do I think that
Malone had earned the right to coach out the string?

(10:13):
Probably do. I am I thankful for Mike Malone for
what he did for the Denver Nuggets. Absolutely, do I
think that Nuggets fans should have any ill will for
Michael Malone. No, I don't. But at the same time, there,
you know, there does come a point where you have
to say, Okay, is this the guy who's going to
continue to win? The standard has been raised. He got

(10:34):
us to a championship. Standard has been raised. Can he
get us back here? And it doesn't look like you can.
Part of that is on him, not all of it,
but part of it is. Part of it's on Calvin Booth,
who is some Twitter user pointed out today looks like
somebody shops Nick Cage's face on Mike Brown's body and
I can't unsee it. Now. Go look at a photo

(10:57):
of Calvin Booth and tell me you don't see that.
That said. Booth has been spotty with the draft picks
and has allowed guys like Bruce Brown and KCP, who
are integral parts of the Nuggets championship run, to get away.
He paid a MAX contract to Michael Porter Junior when

(11:18):
he probably shouldn't have. That was one of the hotly
debated things at the time, and I know I was
against it. I was let him walk. You can find
a three point shooter doesn't play any defense just about
anywhere in the league. With all due respect to Michael
Porter Junr, who's a better shooter and a better basketball player
than I could even conceive of being. The reality is

(11:41):
the Nuggets are short on three and D guys now
because you don't have Brown and KCP. They can't play.
They're giving up one hundred and seventeen points a game,
and that's a part of it. And there are times
where they can't match that because they don't have those
three and D guys at the two in the three
to be able to pull that off. And if you're
going to center a team around to and be a
pick and roll offense, fine, but you've got to have

(12:03):
some two way for Indian, you got to have two players,
You've got to have three and D guys. You have
to surround him with that to make the most use
of him and get the right courts basing. And they
just they don't have that. The Holmes thing, I mean,
that could turn out to be one of those things
that Booth looks like a genius on. In hindsight, and

(12:24):
to be honest with you, I think it's going to
work out better in the end than you know that
that people are probably counting on. But you know, as
it sits right now, you have a perilously thin roster
and two players on max contracts that probably shouldn't have them.
The argument for Jamal Murray probably gets a little bit
more intense. I think Jamal is a very good clutch player.

(12:47):
I don't know, there's never a moment too big for him.
He shows up in those kinds of moments, but there
are a lot of games where he is very pedestrian
for three quarters before turning it on in crunch time.
And I don't know that just relying on Nikole Jokic

(13:08):
to bail you out of everything is the smartest strategy,
and certainly he appears to be upset about it. Jokicch
is thirty years old. You probably you know, you're probably
you're in the prime. You're probably in the backside of
the prime. Fall said and done, you probably got about
two more years of prime n Kolijokic, and then maybe
two more productive years after that before it falls off.
And that's assuming that he wants to continue to play basketball.

(13:30):
That long he may not. So if you're the Denver Nuggets,
how do you maximize that window? Do you let Mike
Malone coach out the string when you are a four
game skit, or do you want to take a look
at David Adeaman while you've got an opportunity to do
so and see if he's the future of the Denver Nuggets.

(13:51):
Adamman is considered an up and coming coach, is considered
that that sort of hot shot who's going to be
a head coach. The question becomes what else are you
gonna do? Like does it get better? Because this is
this was the question with the George Carl thing. George
Carl was a guy gets you the playoffs, but probably
not gets you the big one, right, So who who

(14:15):
at that point are you going to get? And the
Nuggets came out and they swung pretty poorly in that regard.
It was not not good. After George Carl the grass
he isn't always greener, But I think at this point,

(14:38):
I think at this point you recognized what the top
out was and you're like, all right, we know where
the limit is on this. This is the blow up point.
So either Adamman gets this team where it needs to
be or we know it's not the messaging. Because we
now we've had two coaches in Michael Malone and David Adelman.

(14:59):
How we need to some personnel changes. And at that point,
look at moving on from Michael Porter Jr. And Jamal Murray,
and those are very distinct and very real possibilities. Porter
has struggled to do much of you know, to be
consistent as a shooter. He does give you some rebounding ability,

(15:20):
but beyond that, he's really struggled to contribute a lot
on the court, and it's been a problem. You can't
pay a max player for that sort of role play.
And I mentioned it before with the Broncos. Broncos, the
Nuggets need a pair of three and D guys beyond
what they have. They can't go get them. You're up

(15:43):
against it. So you're gonna have to get you know,
you're gonna have to go out there and you have
to look at this. You may have to move on
from Murray too, And in that case, you're gonna have
to find a ball handler who can who can create
separate from an on ball defender. We already said you
gotta find a couple of three and D guys. But

(16:05):
you're gonna have to find a point guard who can
who can effectively shoot, who has a who has a
a shot, a three point shot that can help create
the proper spacing on the court. But in the kind
of system that they run and the kind of system
you're going to need to be effective with Jokich, you
need a you need a a dribbler who can create

(16:25):
separation from the on ball defender he needed. You need
a good dribbler. And so that's, you know, that's sort
of gonna be the thing. Who are you going to
get to be that guy? You can find some three
and D guys, you can you can find some of
those in free agency, But who you're gonna find, you know,
and how are you gonna work this thing out? And
that's that really is the question at the end of

(16:47):
the day. Fascinating stuff. We'll have more on that as
the week goes along. A comeback and a pivot a
little bit, talk about the National Championship, talk about the Broncos.
Just to Broncous Country Night, You're okay away.

Speaker 1 (17:07):
If Broncos Country Tonight, Lester.

Speaker 2 (17:09):
Are our tackle, get me to help it receives.

Speaker 1 (17:13):
Let's go on the official home of the Broncos. All Right,
all night, Kowa.

Speaker 2 (17:27):
Welcome back to it Broncos Country. Tonight Ben's went albright
here with the post Rockies edition short show tonight Just
an hour show five six six nine zeros text line,
You guys want to get involved the conversation been talking
about the Michael Malone situation, and you know, I think
people who listening to this show understood that something was coming.

(17:50):
Talked about it last week, talked about it yesterday, you know,
tried to try to sort of nudge in the right
direction as best we could. I do have a small,
partial list of potential names here, call it a short
list if you will, of people who could be involved

(18:14):
in the head coaching search. Guys they could take a
look at. I'll give you a couple of those names. Obviously,
Adaman is going to get the opportunity to earn a job,
and that'd be first and foremost. Some of the other
names on this list that I'll get to you would
include Chris Quinn, the assistant coach at with the Miami

(18:34):
Heat right now, Nate Oates. I think everybody knows who
Natoates is. Dave Jorder, assistant coach with the Milwaukee Bucks,
James Barrego and Wes Unseld Jr. So just some names
to keep your eye on there if the if the

(18:55):
Adamant thing doesn't work out. There's a few of them.
I don't think that's a complete or comprehensive list, but
from what I understand that it is a partial list
of uh, some of the guys they would take a
look at if the Attaman thing doesn't work out. So
there's that. I don't know if any of those names
intrigue anybody. I don't really want to get too too
much into, you know, into into those things. The name

(19:20):
that jumps out a little bit there, I think for
most people is probably Nate Oates, uh and what he's done,
you know, down there at Auburton or at Alabama. Sorry,
And so that I think might be interesting to keep

(19:44):
your eye on. You know, Nate Oates obviously was it
uh was it Buffalo and then was it Alabama? Does
not have NBA coaching experience, uh, So you know, there's

(20:04):
that's the drawback there, but certainly has over a decade
of collegiate basketball experience that started at Wisconsin Whitewater back
in two thousand as an assistant. It was twenty thirteen
twenty fifteen at Buffalo as an assistant, twenty fifteen to
twenty nineteen as head coach. In twenty nineteen the President
Alabama as a head coach and no, no NBA experience,

(20:24):
but certainly, you know, certainly has head coaching experience. Something
to keep your eye on there. That was the name
that kind of jumped out at me on that list.
Whether or not that's serious or not some of the
other names on that list. You know, Chris Quinn, I'm
familiar with his games. That's something that interests me on
several levels. Anybody that has studied under her Spolstra, I

(20:48):
think is certainly somebody that you have to take a
look at off that tree, whatever else you think of him.
Spolster's a hell of a coach. Wins obviously a former
player uh played around the league, played some European ball.
Was it Valencia for a year, It was kim Ki

(21:10):
for a year, but played with the Heat Nets Spurs
and Calves coached in college with Northwestern as an assistant,
now with Miami Heat as an assistant for a decade.
I think that that name is certainly somebody to sort
of keep your eye on. His first head coach interview,

(21:32):
Chris Quinn's was with the Pacers back in twenty twenty.
Washington gave him interview in twenty twenty one, and he
has not been able to not been able to grab
a head coaching joby EPI certainly had the interviews, you know,
one of the Uh there's an article out there that
you can get over on ESPN, and they called him

(21:52):
a point guard's point guard who has excelled at every
task and route to the lead assistant's chair in Miami.
UH says ask heat insiders who most embodies the team culture,
Quinn is commonly the answer. One source called him mini me,
Spolster's minime, saying, quote, he's an established He's an emotionally
stable leader who inspires confidence in players, as revealed when

(22:15):
he filled in for Spolster's head coach for a stint
in March and April when received his first interview for
head coaching job with the Pacers in twenty twenty. So
something to keep your eye on. There's a couple of
names keep your eye on if the David Adelman thing
doesn't work out, you know, those are those are certainly
some interesting names.

Speaker 1 (22:33):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (22:33):
As far as that goes five six nine zeros text line,
you guys want to getting involved in conversation when you
what you guys think. From what I understand, the situation
behind the scenes was just untenable, and you know, it
kind of a you know, kind of a situation where
it created a toxic work environment. And so I think

(22:56):
ultimately they just kind of had to make that move
the locker room and quit listening to Michael Malone. And
you know, you understand, you got Nakola Jokic, you have
the greatest player in basketball. You got to build something
around it and take advantage of these next four years,
which you know you probably have to look at this
as a four year block, uh, and then go from
there in terms of what Yokic brings to the table.
So you know, that's that's I think. Uh, at the

(23:20):
end of the day, I think that's how you have
to look at this, how you have to approach this.
And as much as I think people like Michael Malone
what he's done and certainly love what he's done for
the Nuggets, I think yont are that and I think
it's you know, time time to turn the page. I mean,
certainly the Nuggets thought it was time to turn the page.
So that's going to be that's going to be interesting

(23:46):
to uh see how this thing plays out. You got
to short ramp up for the Nuggets. In terms of
Dave Adelman, he's got a very short window here to
try to make something work, to try to impress enough
to win this job, and we'll see how it goes.

(24:09):
The Broncos were in the news today on several levels. One,
you've got quin Shawn Judkins, the Ohio State running back,
coming in for a visit later this week. We've talked
about that before. Justin Simmons was on the k Adams Show,
gave out an interview. I'll get to that stuff those
comments in a minute. And then the Broncos made a
roster boof today, signing safety Sam Franklin to a one

(24:34):
year contract. It's worth up to one point five million. Franklin,
undrafted in twenty twenties, appeared in seventy four games for
the Carolina Panthers over the last five seasons, one hundred
and five tackles, one pick, playing the majority of his career,
snaps about thirteen hundred of them out of twenty one
hundred career snaps on special teams did spend time on

(24:58):
IR in twenty twenty. Fourth broken foot Franklin, who's listed
at six three to ten, used to play ball at Temple,
where he worked as an outside linebacker before shifting to
the defensive backfield. He uh sort of interesting because I

(25:19):
think he plays sort of the Will Park's role in
this defense. You know, yeah, he's a safety, but he's
also been sort of an edge rusher, and I think
if you look at what he brings to the table,
this might be a situation where you've got if you're
in the nickel and you've got two linebackers. You were
in a you know, a two four five or four
two five, and you've got two linebackers back there. One

(25:40):
of them would be dra Greenlaw and then the other
wouldn't be a linebacker at all. You put Franklin in there,
and now all of a sudden, you got somebody who's
a little bit more more versatile, able to come downhill,
can also go away from the ball, And it sort
of gives you a guy think that you know that
you can use in a bunch of different ways. You
go back and you look at the way that advance.
Joseph has deployed those type players before. Uh, and he

(26:02):
likes those type players, those hybrid linebacker safety types. Isaiah
Simmons certainly fits that bill when he was down there
in Arizona. So you know, this is this is a
guy I think UH brings something to the table. The
question is is now you've got a fairly complicated and

(26:23):
and frankly crowded safety room. Uh. You've got some guys
that are developmental that you were hoping would take a turn,
Guys like Jail Skinner, Devon Key, he Dalarry Turner, Yell PJ. Lock,
who was a starter has been demoted since you know,
Hufanga was brought in. Obviously you got Brandon Jones here
as well. This is gonna be interesting because there's definitely
a odd man out there and so you have to

(26:44):
figure out, you know who that is, what that is,
and and go from there. But that I like that pickup.
I think that you know, I think I like what
it brings to the table. If you taught to guys
to talk about him, he's a communicator guy who will
you don't miss out there on the practice field. You
know he's out there kind of guy. So you know,

(27:08):
that's that's good, having a vocal leader out there who
can play special teams and have like a situational role,
you know, similar to the way, like I said, Will
Parks kind of had a situational role with the Broncos
back when Vance was here as the head coach and
the way you like to run that defense. And so
I'm sort of interested to see if he can be

(27:29):
that sort of hybrid role and do that thing here
as well. Justin Simmons last offseason signed with the Falcons
August fifteenth, midway through camp once again a free agent,
completed his one year deal in Atlanta, and I know
he wants to sign with the team a little earlier

(27:50):
this year. He was on the Ky Adams Show today
he said, that's always the goal. I think there's pros
and cons to training camp. Cons would be going through
it your body, breaking down the whole nine, especially as
you get older. But I mean a lot of the
pros is building that rapport, especially when you're not with

(28:10):
the team and you haven't necessarily played with a lot
of these guys. So I think it would have benefited
me to go a little bit earlier. But it also
just wasn't in the cards. I think Atlanta has a
great young safety and DeMarco Hellams. I like Richie Grant's
game a lot. So at the time, could they have
added a veteran? Yeah, where they looking to Maybe not that.
A couple of guys go down to camp and it's like, Okay,
we've got to add somebody, and then your number called
and you go. Justin said, so we'll see, we'll see.

(28:33):
I want to go to the best situation. I want
to go to a team that's going to win. So
we'll see what that looks like. Could go back to
the Falcons, but it doesn't seem like he's counting on that.
When asked about he said it was a one year thing.
They kind of like their younger guys. Sometimes things just
don't work out and you go in different directions. I
don't know if the door's closed, but we'll see. Sixteen
starts for Atlanta last year, Simmons recorded sixty two tackles,

(28:55):
seven passes, defense, two picks, number four on the active
list with thirty two career interceptions. He had some interesting comments,
but the kids that he chiefs too said he wouldn't
close the door on that, but uh, he wanted to
be the guy that would beat them, but wouldn't close
the door on a possibility of going to Kansas City
as well, which I think a lot of Broncos fans
certainly were like a little taken aback by. You know,

(29:19):
he talked about that a little Bit's a good interview.
If you guys get a chance, you want to go
see that. You know, justin on the k Adam Show.
He's got good football left in him. He's hardly washed.
I mean, he still looked good last year. So you know,
somebody out there will will sign him and get a
good player who's capable of you know, making some make
it some some big plays. If you need a you know,

(29:41):
a high safety like that's the guy would go get it.
Doesn't to me, it doesn't make sense to that, you know,
not get him a shot. I know he's not the
most aggressive tackler, but certainly a guy can played that
high safety position. You know out there now. Other Colorado
News Travis Hunter doesn't know which team's going to call

(30:03):
his name on Draft might, but he knows exactly what
he wants to hear when his name is called. Hunter,
who obviously won the Heisman Trophy here at Colorado, playing
wide receiver in corner, said that when an NFL commissioner
Roger Goodell announces his name, he wants Goodell to say
both of his positions, saying, quote, he'd better say wide

(30:26):
receiver and dB. I need him to say wide receiver
and dB end quote. And that's aknown at this point.
Whichever team that drafts Hunter will wanted to focus on whatever.
But Hunter says he can play every play, every snap,
both sides of the ball, and at the very least
he wants Goodell to make it known and the draft
audience he's avaiable to do it. There were some interesting

(30:49):
conversations overheard at the Colorado showcase that he elected not
to do any workouts and only went out there at
ran routes for Chador to maybe he's trying to, you know,
push that wide receiver thing a little bit more. But
I'll say that and and look, the Browns are a
team that view him mostly as a wide receiver. To me,

(31:11):
that feels like it is service. I feel like his
better position is corner. Certainly, I've talked to plenty of
teams who feel like that he should be primarily a
corner and then wide, get a wide receiver package, and
then kind of earn more as it goes. It's it's
much much easier to put someone at corner and give
him a few plays at receiver than it is to
put them at receiver and give him a few plays
at corner. On the defensive side of the ball, you
got to be able to communicate. You got to know
where you guys are. It's kind of like the offensive line,

(31:32):
you know, working as a unit. Where as a receiver
you can know your route. You know you can you
can learn those routes, and it's not not necessarily one
of those things. You know, a quarterback may need to
get a little bit more used to you and throw
into you. But there's there's much more of a knowing
your teammate's component to being a dB than there is
to being a wide receiver. You can you can get

(31:54):
your assignments to learn that stuff. It's just it's a
lot different. And talking to guys who have done both before,
and I've talked to a few in the lead up
to this process, you know, just getting their their thoughts
kind of offline on the situation that it's it's just
much more difficult to if you're doing both, because you

(32:18):
have to have that sort of you know, institutional knowledge
with your teammates and where they are, where to pick up,
where the seams are, and zone those kinds of things.
It's just much much easier to be that and be
in the meeting rooms for those things and do most
of your work on that side and then get packages
on receiver then the other way around. So it'll be
it'll be fascinating. We'll see Travis un a lot of

(32:39):
stuff lately, people talking about him going to the Browns.
Not one hundred on that, but you know, we'll see that.
Seems to be a little bit of the buzz that's
going on lately. In non Broacos news, James Cook put
his house up for sale not long after the Bill's
general manager, Brendan Bean declared contract talks were on hold.
The voting back is making five point three million dollars.

(33:02):
That's his salary for twenty twenty five, which is the
last year of his rookie deal, and he's made it
known that he's looking for fifteen million dollars per year.
In Rapoport reports that things are not great between Cook
and the Bills, which I mean seems obvious given them
for sales side and cookyard, but Rapperboard adds a Cook
will play for the Bills next season, and while the

(33:24):
Bills want Cook signed long term, that seems unlikely at
the moment, giving Cook and the team seeming to have
a pretty wide gap. Buffalo of course made Cook a
second round pick back in twenty twenty two. He's had
two thousand yard seasons, two Pro Bowls, and of course
last year squed sixteen rushing touchdowns. Is only twenty five
years old and headed to free agency next year, and

(33:44):
there are several mechanisms that Bills can do to sort
of compel him in terms of what it is that
they want to do. Fifteen million dollars a year for
running back. Those a lot of money. If you guys
saw Pete Carroll obviously head coach of the Raider, but
it still has his class that he teaches at USC

(34:06):
more than three hundred people applied. He's still teaching it.
He's he's still going. He's only missed one class during
the scouting combine and he still did it via zoom.
His class has had celebrity guests. He encourage Jason Sadeikis
and Ryan Wilson, who is to white on the office.
But Pete Carroll is going to finish out teaching his
class and continue teaching his class until they can't do
it anymore. And man, I hope I have that kind

(34:26):
of energy when I'm in my mid seventies, because Pete
Carroll is is something else. His students love the class,
and you see some of the quotes out there. There's
an article out there one of the Raiders sites about
how they will never forget the professor and how he
changed their lives. So there's way of thinking. So believe
for Pete Carol. Raiders of course got a ways to

(34:50):
go to dig themselves out. They picking at number six,
may take Janny in the draft. We'll see how that goes.
