Speaker 1 (00:00):
Benjamin Albright here with you. Post Rocky Short Show edition.
We'll have another one of these tomorrow night, then a
full show on Thursday, where I'll be joined by Orlando
Franklin filling in for Nick Ferguson's. That'll be a lot
of fun. You guys want to put that on your
calendar as well. Short show obviously post Rockies edition. Rockies
taken on the Phillies, Philadelphia Phillies here in Denver, and

(00:25):
yesterday the Phillies certainly got the better of the Rockies
in a game that I you know, I thought it
was looking fairly good for the Rockies up until about
that eighth ninth inning when the Phillies put seven runs
on the board between the both those innings, and that

(00:47):
really was it was sort of the end of it.
You saw, you know, Bryce Harper at a sack fly
to get Brandon Marsh and Alec Baum homered. Trey Turner
doubled and got the Marsh and Sosian then and the
ninth Sosa homered. Schwarber homered too, deep Bright so four
hundred and sixty four feet on that one, by the way,
So there was quite a few late game theatrics that

(01:15):
did the Rockies in yesterday. I didn't get a chance
to get to that too too much. The Rockies for themselves.
Tovar homered in that one. That was the only home
run that they had. You saw Tovar had two hits
and four of bats. It really was the most effective

(01:35):
batter TOTALLYA Doyle also had hits doubles. I believe Beck
had a double in that one as well, and Moniac
came on and got a hit in relief of Freeman
out there in right field. But the Rockies just unable
to put enough put enough offense together on these type situations.

(01:57):
Freeland and Byrd pitch per well talking about seven innings
of of pretty good work between the two of them.
They had allowed two runs, only one of them was earned.
That was Freelance. Early on. Freelance struck out six and
five point one nings. Pitched. Bird came on one point
two innings to relieve twenty six pitches and continues to

(02:19):
be the Rockies best relief pitcher out there. But again,
the bats for the Phillies just just too much for
the Rockies. Uh so uh switching gears here. The Denver
Broncos had some news today and that is they announced
that the the two teams that they're playing on the

(02:45):
road will be the Saints at forty nine ers. We
already knew that, but they're going to do joint practices
with the Arizona Cardinals when they come to town. The Cardinals
play the Broncos Saturday nights August sixteenth, I think around
seven pm, and the practice session is actually going to

(03:08):
take two play place two days before the game on
August fourteenth. It's the third time in three years Head
Coast John Gannon that the Cardinals have had joint practices
that worked with the Colts last year, Vikings year before that,
Get the Broncos this year, get you know, Broncos, get
that scrimmage sort of feel that they want, you know

(03:30):
a little bit with these joint practices, and there's potential
that they may get a Green Bay joint practice just
coming out here for a couple of days. I don't
know that that's necessarily going to happen, but that was
something that had been discussed. I love these joint practices
because I think they shake things up a little bit.
We've talked about it before, but when you get in
practice and you're up against the same guys every day

(03:52):
you let's let's talk wide receivers corners just for example.
You get the same guys every day, and you kind
of you stop playing your technique and you start playing
the man. You get used to what that guy can
or can't do. You know what he can't do because
you've been up against him rep after rep after rep.
And so you get to the point where you start

(04:12):
playing the guy and you start you start using things
you know they're going to do that instead of playing
your technique. And I think having these joy and practices
get a little bit of shake up, so you go
back to playing your technique. I think they're great. The
main thing is, you know, you got to keep people
from get a little chipy because they've got all that
energy bound up and wanted to release it. Guy's been
wanting to, uh, you know, to get out and hit

(04:33):
and all that kind of stuff. And so what happens
is you see situations where things get a little chippy,
You get some fights, you know, things like that, and
it's just, you know, not that part of it. You
want to make sure you don't you know you don't
have But at the end of the day, you know,
I think that Uh, I think that having these the

(04:58):
risks outweigh the rewards. For me, I mean a little
bit of fighting in practice versus getting some quality practices,
in getting guys refocused and playing the way they're supposed
to rather than beating up on the guy across from them,
if they you know, if they happen to know their weaknesses.
So I think that's I think it's a good thing anyway.
Arizona Cardinals August fourteenth, joint practice. That's gonna be That's
gonna be a lot of fun. Roger Goodell talking today,

(05:24):
twenty twenty five NFL schedule features seven games outside the
United States, so Broncos. Of course, one of those could
be playing in London against New York Jets, but the
league wants to expand that to sixteen games a year
in other countries. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, so the league's
all in on opening new international markets, and is it

(05:45):
slowing down, telling CNBC's Scott Wapner, I do see sixteen
regular season games, and I do think that will happen
in the very near future. Goodell also said within five
years probably the NFL's about as poperty could be in
Pagodel thinks there's a lot of room for growth in
other countries, says international is and open market force. We're
excited about that potential end quote. A sixteen games slate

(06:08):
of international games could mean playing international games almost every
week of the season, and possibly all thirty two teams
playing eight home games, eight road games one international game
at least while they keep the seventeen game schedule. An
expanding international schedule could motivate the NFL to continue its
push to an eighteen game regular season, which would give

(06:29):
the league a larger inventory of games to move overseas.
This year, the NFL plays three games in England, which
we already mentioned. The Bronco is a one of those,
one game in Brazil, one game in Germany, one game
in Ireland, and a game in Spain. Next year, the
league has committed to a game in Australia, multiple games
in England, a potential return to Mexico in the renovated

(06:52):
a Stadio Azteca. Once the NFL hits sixteen games a
year outside the US, several new countries will likely be
added to the mix. As Goodell continues to make his
push for American football to become a global sport. I
like the idea of it, and if we're going to
do this, then I think, you know, I think that

(07:17):
you're going to have to eventually have like a European
Division or something like that, four teams over there where
teams can make a whole sweep over there, you know,
and do it like that, because I just don't otherwise.
I think that that's going to be viable for these
one off games like that without bye weeks and everything else.
The other part of this is the NFL hasn't done,

(07:37):
and something I've been pretty outspoken on since they introduced
the concept to Thursday Night football, is that the NFL
should have bye weeks before the Thursday night game. You know,
having that short week. NFL talks about safety and all
that kind of stuff, but the one thing that they
absolutely ignores these short week games, and the product is

(07:58):
diminished on Thursday nights. You know, we get kind of
sloppy product. It would be a much better and would
be much better games if we got bye weeks before
the Thursday night game. Uh, and then of course left
ten days rest after that, so it creates, you know,
a de facto rest period for a team to you know,
to be able to gather themselves and not have disadvantage

(08:18):
internet inside and outside of it. Just something to keep
your eye on as UH UH as as the league
continues to move forward and you know pushed you know
push pushes these into UH foreign markets and everything else,
and how we're going to continue to do that. UH.

(08:40):
Zach Taylor has no update on Trey Hendrickson, but has
spoken with him. Last week, Bengals defensive ent Trey Hendrickson
showed up in Street Close for Cincinnati's voluntary workout. Toll
reporters that things had become quote personal in his contract dispute.
UH speaking to the media is the team's Phase two
session was ongoing. Hendricks and side did a text he
received from head coach Zach Taylor about fines for missed

(09:03):
mandatory mini camp as a factor that set him off.
In his Tuesday press conference this morning, Taylor said that
he had no update on Hendrickson, but noted that the
two had talked, saying, quote, I put a lot of
time into thinking those situations. There's real money at stake,
Taylor said, So I put a lot of time and
energy into thinking about how to communicate, when to communicate
and so that's how I's handled that one. Yeah, Trey

(09:25):
and I have spoken. I think every situation is unique,
every personality is different, every player is different, timing of
everything is different, So you just adapt as you go
with that stuff. Taylor noted that it's his decision when
and how to handle those exchanges, adding that he didn't
find it distracting for Hendrickson to be speaking to the
media during a workout. It was good to see him,
good to have him in town. Practice had really wrapped

(09:45):
up for the most part. I didn't have any issue
with that. There was no doubt that Taylor sees the
need for Hendrickson on the team's defense as everybody does,
saying quote, I mean, he's an elite rusher. He's had
a great job in this league for a long time
since he's been here, So obviously he's a valuable part
of our team and led the league last season with
seventeen and a half sacks, becoming a first team All
Pro for the first time in his career, and has

(10:07):
said that he will not play this season. Under his
current deal, he's slated to make a base salary of
fifteen point eight million, with a salary cap hit of
eighteen point six million in twenty twenty five. Speaking of
the Bengals, their first round pick Schamar Stewart remains unsigned
on the sidelines as well during the club's on field work.
Rookie Ede Rusher has been a boiled in his own

(10:28):
contract dispute with the club and has not been participating
during Cincinnati's voluntary workouts, though he has been in the building.
Kelsey Conway of the Cincinnati Inquirer reported on Tuesday morning
that Stuart wanted his contract to look like Cincinnay's last
two first round picks, both of whom were taken after
seventeen overall. As has been the case, Stuart is not

(10:48):
planning to practice until the dispute is resolved. At CoA,
Zach Taylor said after practice there's no update yet on
his status, noticed that he's done a great job in meetings.
Stuart recorded four and a half sacks twelve tackles for
a loss in his thirty seven games at Texas A
and m somebody that's been at voluntary work and doing it.
Michael Parsons of the Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer was

(11:13):
happy to see defensive van Michael Parsons in attendance. Schottenneimer
did not say at the press conference today how much
work Parsons has been doing or how often he's attended
the team's voluntary workouts this year bod He did say
he's been in and out despite his ongoing wait for
a contract extension. Schottnimer added that he's been in a
little bit the last couple of days that he appreciates
Parsons coming at a time when he's not required to

(11:34):
be with the team, saying, quote, the first couple of days,
we're doing some team building things, some culture Schttneimer said
via the team's website, We're trying to create one of
the greatest cultures in professional sports. Michael is going to
be a leader for us. He wants to be a
leader for us. He's going to do that. I felt
like it was very important for him to be here
to begin to process that. Yeah, it's voluntary camp, but
the fact that he did that means a lot to me.

(11:54):
End quote. The only mandatory work of the offseason program
comes at next month's mini camp. After that, attention will
shift to whether he attends and fully participates in training camp.
If the Cowboys have not gotten his contract done by
the time to report. A lot of people, most people,
I think think that that deal is going to get
done and that Parsons will be in camp for that.

(12:21):
So we'll see, we'll update it as we as we
go along. Tomorrow supposed to bring a vote on whether
to adopt a rule change proposed by the Packers that
would ban all pushing or pulling of ball carriers. Change
would actually be a reversion to two thousand and five,
which was the final season when that was prohibited by
the NFL rule book. The proposal is designed to put

(12:43):
an end to the toush push quarterback sneak that the
Eagles have perfected in recent seasons. During a press conference
this morning, Eagles wide receiver AJ Brown was asked about
the potential change and said he didn't have quote any
thoughts on it, before sharing one, saying, quote, it's only
one yard, so Brown said, wash shrugging round, then laughed,
that doesn't seem like he's gonna spend too much time

(13:03):
worrying about what Wednesday may hold for a play that's
become a staple of the Eagles offense. Yeah, I mean,
I think you know I've been over this time and
time again said the same thing. Look, I where I
sit with this is, you know, it's just pretty simple.
I'm against banning the tush push as a play, but
I am for banning pushing and pulling ball carriers, which

(13:25):
would effectively eliminate the play. I just conceptually, I have
a problem with banning a play because what you're saying
is this is too difficult to stop, so we're just
eliminating it instead of saying, okay, uh, the concept with
which we play the game needs to be altered, which
would be the actual scenario here. I also have a

(13:47):
problem with the NFL talking about safety and you know,
and then and then that running that play that way,
because defensive linemen, uh, you know, are already at a
disadvantage off the snap when it comes to that, and
that situation just just does not create, you know, I
think the most positive outcomes for football. But I am

(14:09):
not for banning the play unless you're banning the concept
of pushing and pulling ball carriers from an external player.
I just I can't sit there and justify one thing
without the other. And it's you know, it's it's sort
of weird to me that this argument has gotten away
from that you know, and that's one of those things

(14:31):
that I think that at the end of the day,
if the NFL bans one without banning the other, you know,
then I I am four or I'm against them doing
that because the ending result is, uh, it creates a mess,

(14:54):
you know. Then then okay, then what are we doing.
We're allowing people just to to run to the edge
of the rules on different things and then not and
then not ultimately banned the concepts like they're just gonna
just revamp the concept a little bit, so you know
that I you know, I don't know, I have a

(15:15):
problem with this unless it's banned the concept. Luckily that
the packers have changed their verbiage to do the concept,
so didn't want to talk about this real quick. The
Dolphins are trying to move on from Jayalen Ramsey and
that's expected to happen. Miami keeps reaching out to veteran
cornerbacks Barry Jackson, and the Miami Herald called in choir
said that the Dolphins called in quire by corner of

(15:36):
Sante Samuel Junior. Samuel is still recovering from next surgery.
He's not received any offer from Miami or been in
for a visit, but according to Jackson, the Dolphins have
made it known that they're interested in want to remain
in touch as Samuel continues his recovery. If a deal
comes together between the two parties would likely happen in July.
Samuel has had a visit with the Saints. Yeah. He

(16:00):
was a Charger second round pick at twenty twenty one
thirty seven passes, defense, six interceptions in fifty career games,
but was limited to four contests last year. The Dolphins
have also been in touch with free agent corner Russell
Douglas as they continued to work on trading cornerback Jalen Ramsey.
And we do expect Ramsey to get dealt here fairly soon.
So I know they've been working that for a while.

(16:23):
I believe Veterri June first that deal get done. So
you guys are listening to Broncos Country tonight, Am bitchmin
Albright and appreciate you guys sticking with us. We'll be
right back right here on a fifty AM ninety four
ONEFM News Talk Sports Broncos Country Tonight. I've been Albright

(16:44):
here with you short show post Rockies edition again. We've
been over the Thursday is going to be a full show,
full live show Orland of Frank a little be joining
me instead of steada Nick Ferguson will be out so
that it'll be fun. Look forward to have you guys
in for that. I don't know if you guys saw

(17:05):
the back and forth between Ryan Clark and r G three.
I just it's it's a weird thing when when people
are getting on each other and all that kind of stuff.
But r G three, you know, is trying to create

(17:33):
a media career for himself and has injected himself into
a couple of conversations where I had sort of head
scratching stuff on. I thought he was all right on
the uh, you know, on the on the desk, uh
doing college football and all that kind of stuff. I
think that's probably his niche. Sports punditry doesn't really seem
to be his thing, and he sort of injects his

(17:54):
opinion is fact on some things, and he kind of
waded into the Caitlin Clark Jel Reese's things, saying then
I'm quoting here after watching Kaitlyn Clark's flagrant fell on
Angel Reese in the aftermath, there's no reason there's no way,
excuse me, Angel Really, Angel Reese can continue the lie
that she doesn't dislike Kaitlyn Clark. I know what hatred
looks like. Angel Reese hates Caitland Clark all caps on hates.

(18:16):
Not some basketball rivalry either hate. And it's pretty obvious
that RG three is there for engagement. You know, it's
obvious that that's that's what he's doing. He's there for
the engagement. It's it's odd to me that you felt

(18:40):
the need to inject yourself into that when you've got
other stuff and you scroll back on RG three and
you can find him celebrating Draymond Green, punching Jordan Poole
and and firing off jokes at that point and all
that kind of stuff. RG three doesn't know. He doesn't
know if Caitlyn Clark and Angel rees hate each other

(19:00):
or no. To their credit, neither one has said that
they do. You know, honestly, the claim that she hates
her is sort of ridiculous coming from him. But then
you had Ryan Clark who felt the need to weigh

(19:21):
in and weighed in on what RG three said, And
it's just, I don't know, it gets weirder from here.
RG three said he could recognize hate when he sees
it when referring to Angel Reese's feelings toward Kaitlin Clark
was this is Ryan Clark talking here. Irresponsible but not

(19:43):
at all surprising. Clark's the biggest star in women's basketball deserverthly,
so no need to beat up Reese. Dad shine to it.
RG three plays into the narrative that reaches the villain
in Clark's hero origin story. And now you've got Olberman
and port Nooy, who berated recent college have an ally
in RG three adam to the list of black men
who've adopted the corny trend of denigrated black women to

(20:06):
affirm their choices. Attacking Reese multiple times in order to
gain favor from his desired crowd won't help RG three
blend in more, echoing the microaggressions of racist won't make
him any less black than me. And that felt a
little charged from RG three, And I mean, excuse me
from Clark, who then Ryan Clark, who then proceeded to

(20:29):
make comments later on, you know, about him not understanding
the plight of black women and because he's married to
a white woman and all that kind of stuff. And
I'm like, yeah, okay, Well, Ryan Clark just went over
the line in the other direction. RG three responded to
that and said, there's a line you don't cross in life.
Ryan Clark spread it past it. Clark didn't like my
take on Angel Reese hating Kaitlin Clark. That's fine, disagreement

(20:50):
as part of the game. But instead of debating my point,
he personally attacked me and my family. That shows how
low a person he is. I gave a sports opinion.
I said Angel Rees hates Kaitlin Clark based on repeated
visible actions on the court and in press conferences. I
backed it up with five separate examples in the game
of basketball, because that's what I do. I niize sports.
I stay in the arena. Just because Angel Reese is

(21:10):
black doesn't mean that our game at actions cannot be critiqued.
A black man or woman is not restricted from giving
a sports opinion on another black mat or woman just
because you don't like it. Everyone can give their opinion
on everyone, no matter what color they are. We've got
to be better in this space. Debate the game, don't
play with people's families, because if you need to cross
that line and attack the person and their family instead
of the point to win an argument, then you've already lost.

(21:33):
Ryan Clark said, I don't understand the struggles of black
women because I'm married to a white woman. That's wrong
and way out of bounds. He suggested, I don't value
my wife as the woman I love, protect and raise
a family, with only value her because of the color
of her skin. That's also wrong and way out of bounce.
And he implied that he, a man who has never
sat at our dinner table, values my wife and knows
my marriage better than I do. That's wrong and way

(21:55):
out of bounds. He dismissed my blackness because I have
a different opinion of Angel Reese than he does. Yes,
that's wrong in a way out of bounds. He claimed,
I'm not having conversations about the struggles of black women
in my own home because my wife is white. That's wrong,
a way out of bounds. We also raise black daughters together.
We don't teach them to hate people or just qualify
their opinions based on the color of their skin. He

(22:15):
claimed that I would appeal to certain audience. The only
audience I'm focused on is the audience of one God.
I support all people, not some people, my support is
not based on the color of someone's skin, but the
content of the character. My sports opinions are not based
on the color of someone's skin or from what I
see in my experience as a player an analyst. Let
me be clear, it is wildly inappropriate, wrong, and extremely

(22:37):
low to weaponize and attack a person's wife, marriage, and
their family because you disagree with a sports take. I
didn't make it personal with Angel Reese. I didn't drag
her family. I didn't question her soul. I spoke about basketball. Ryan.
You crossed a line. You made it personal and some
There should be no space in sports media for personal attacks,
and wives and children are always off limit. You attacked
me and my family in a public forum on a

(22:58):
level of shows how low of a person. And you
are disagree with me all you want challenge my take,
keep my family and wife out of it. That's a
boundary that should always be respected. Then you had a
full respise. Don't want to get into it because it
repeats the same things. Marian Clark then turns around in response
to this as well, saying, bro, you know what it

(23:18):
is with me and you. I saved you the entire
season on Monday Night football. I urged people to let
you be you, no matter how corny, no matter how
bad a teammate you were. I had your back. What
did you do invite someone on your show? You know
I don't fool with to ask questions about me. And
it hit me weeks later to tell me you're going
to challenge one of my takes. You're a phony bro,

(23:41):
one of the worst teammates I ever had, both on
the field and in TV. You got to do what
you got to do. I didn't attack your wife. I
spoke on what you do on social media and TV.
Like I said, I met your wife. She seemed like
a lovely lady that was worth more than the color
of her skin. You be good, and you know, people
sort of went on to drop down on both sides

(24:05):
of that. I'm with RG three in the sense that, yeah,
you don't bring wives and kids into it. You don't
bring family members into it. I've been on social media
long enough that that kind of stuff is out of bounds.
It's happened to me. I've seen it happen. I've seen
it happen personally. I've seen what it does to people,

(24:27):
and that part of it is out of bounds. That said,
you know, r G three is placing his own speculation
is fact, and Ryan Clark, because of his irritation at
some of r G three's things over the years, is
countering with an argument, none of which is rooted in
what the original opinion is even about this whole angel

(24:52):
is Kaitlin Clark thing, which I don't believe they actually
hate each other, is rooted in it's good for the
w n v A to have a rivalry. The WNBA
has never been more paid attention to than because of
this rivalry. And it's certainly not the first time that
RG three has been called corny or a phony by
one of his former teammates. That's been a long running theme,

(25:15):
dating back to his second year in the league. In fact,
it was a Rob Parker on ESPN got suspended for
calling RG three a cornball brother back in the day.
You guys could look that up, you know if you
want to. I just you know, it just feels like
that we are so so much more at odds these days.

(25:38):
We're just so at each other's necks all the time.
And I don't know if that's the Internet culture. I
don't know if it's a political thing. I don't know,
you know, I don't know what the origin of that is.
But you know, one of the things that and fellas
we probably need to have a conversation about this. One
of the best things I ever did was get myself
in therapy, talk to somebody, hash some things out, and
help me try to make a better person than out

(26:00):
of myself. But one of the things that you know,
a couple of things that you know that I noticed
from my time doing that is is that if you're
not you know, if you're not actively adding to the universe,
then what are you doing? You know, are you subtracting
from it? Are you are you out there is your opinion?
Are you celebrating the pain as somebody else that that
that's that's horrible, you know these people that laugh at

(26:21):
that kind of stuff. Are you Are you out there
adding to the negativity? You're adding the positivity. It's not
it's you know, it's really not that difficult. You should
be able to to answer that to yourself and figure
out which one you're doing. And the reality in this
situation is both these guys are adding the negativity, and
a lot of sports commentary adds to the negativity. You know,
one of the things when Ryan and I started doing

(26:41):
the show is that, you know, we determined we didn't
want to be that. People accused us of cheerleading and
being what was the quote spin doctors. I think that
was the lie they used, and it's not. You know,
just because we don't want to sit there and be
negative and whiny all the time and wanted to add
a little positivity, doesn't you know, it doesn't make us
cheerleaders or doctors. Neither does it make you if you

(27:01):
want some positivity in your life. I think at the
end of the day, my problem is, first of all,
why you guys are in dirty laundry on the internet?
You know, that kind of stuff, you know, is ridiculous.
You know, I just for my part, I want to

(27:24):
do better. I want to be better, and putting out
people's dirty laundry and attacking people personally and all that
kind of stuff doesn't do anything to further any point
that you've made, and tearing anybody down is never going
to lift anybody up. So, you know, I both those
guys need to need to figure their situations out. As
far as the Angel Rees and Caitlin Clark thing and
Reese addressed the WNBA investigation into alleged hateful fan comments

(27:48):
directed towards her during the season opener against Indiana, saying quote,
obviously there's no place in the league for that. I
think the WNBA and our team and our organization have
done a great job supporting me. I had communication for everybody,
so many people across the sleep going through this process. Obviously,
if it could happen to me, it could happen to anybody.
I think they'd done a great job supporting me. And

(28:08):
re said, obviously the moment, it's hard to hear when
asked how she the remarks affected her during the game,
but really didn't seem to have any hateful, you know,
anything towards it. She was asked about the w NBA's
quick response to the alleged remarks and issuing a statement
condemning racism, hate and discrimination. And you know they understand

(28:31):
that this is the priority, no space for hate. You know,
the women in this league, they know that. I believe
every player in this league deserves to be treated with respect.
So Reaes, for her part, seems to seems to have
a grip on this as far as it goes. For
those that don't know, and we can go back a
little further. Fans at Fever games or criticized or malicious
remarks last season, notably online messages with racial slurs threats

(28:55):
of assault directed toward Dejoona Carrington after she accidentally poked
Clark in the eye during a game last season. Carrington's
then team mate Alyssa Thompson said the racist comments were
worse than she the worst she'd experienced at eleven w
A based seasons. You know, Clark and Fever coach Stephanie
White both condemned the remarks, say there's no place for
that in the game, and uh so, you know it's

(29:19):
for their part. Both these players are taking it seriously
and uh certainly are addressing it in a manner that
I think, uh is professional. It's just the punditry and
and the fans that have gotten bad about this. You
look online and fan bases for these two players are
basically divided by skin color. It's it's it's just the
it's the weirdest thing to watch for me. I just

(29:41):
don't I don't get it. I don't understand it. I
don't even understand conceptually, like in your head, how someone
could even be racist. It's I mean, like, what what
do you at the end of the day when you
what are you discounting black lab dogs because they have
black fur? Like this, This is the dumbest concept ever.

(30:02):
The idea that you hate people that look a little
different than you is just it's stupid, Like you have
to be stupid to embrace that concept. But that's a
subject for me to rant on another day. In the end,
this sports space has become less an escape for people.
There are fewer and fewer escapes for people. And what
I mean by that is, you know, sports was in

(30:24):
a lot of ways designed to be the great equalizer.
You know, the meritocracy on the field is designed to
be the great equalizer. It doesn't matter what background you
came from, who you are, what you look like, how
you do, If you perform, you perform, that's it. And
the sports discussion space, while charged at times, used to
be escapism for people who didn't want to deal with
the crushing realities of you know, everyday politics and things

(30:48):
that are going on in the world. Sports, much like
you know, movies, is supposed to be a bit of
an escape for that, and it feels like it hasn't
become that. It feels like that it's morphed into something else,
and we're battered with whatever message it is all the
time and reminded of how horrible people can be on
a larger scale and a more frequent basis, and I

(31:10):
just I'm sick of it. You know, it's I get it.
Everybody has their own agenda with things. Everybody fighting to
get noticed in a space. I know what it's like
to sit there and say things in an effort to
get attention because most of the sports punditary people, that's
what you're doing. It's there's so much of it out
there that whatever you're saying gets lost in the wash.

(31:33):
Most times. That's the reason you get the Skip Baylesses
of the world, because they get paid attention to because
they say bombastic things and they know you'll react, and
those reactions come in the form of tweets and eyeballs
on their shows whatever else, and those are demonstrable metrics
with which they can prove to their bosses that they're
good at their job, that they have an audience, that

(31:53):
people pay attention to them. Before clickbaiting was a thing,
headline baiting was had been around for hundreds of years.
Newspapers used to use it to get you to buy
a newspaper, you know, the little you see him in
the movies, little kids selling the newspapers on there, and
they would, you know, they'd shout out what would at
the time be a clickbaity headline, even though there was
no clickbait back then, in an effort to get you

(32:14):
to buy the paper. So these concepts aren't new, These
concepts aren't something that that you know, aren't established. They've
just infiltrated every part of I think our culture, and
you know it's it's we got to find a way
to push back against this. Stop clicking on those kinds
of stories, stop clicking on the clickbait, stop responding to it.

(32:35):
Block the sources that put that stuff out. An if
if you've got a website or a Facebook pages, put
remove that from your daily diet so you don't have
to worry about seeing that kind of content all the time.
But what do I know, I'm just some guy. My
frustration with this has gone on and on for a while,

(32:58):
and really it itis down to, like I said, this
stuff is infiltrating every corner of the space, and guys
like me who don't want that. I don't want to
be that guy. I don't want to sit here and
have to say dumb things to get you to react.
I've never had to be that person, and if they
try to make me that person, frankly, I just leave
the industry. I'm sure I can find something else to

(33:20):
do with my time. But it's frustrating to watch as
those tactics and those people succeed, and I'll put succeed
in air quotes to a degree, because people pay attention
to them. They do click, they do respond, they do
say that everybody feels the need to get a zinger
in when the reality is the only escape from These

(33:43):
kinds of things are the same tactics you'd use on
a narcissist. Just gray rock the situation and it goes away.
And what I mean by gray rocking is just ignore
the situation, just let them go until it goes away.
People quit running those kinds of stories or making those
kinds of comments, or using those kinds of tactics if
they do don't get the desired outcome. So help me
spread the message. Help me spread the word that we're

(34:05):
trying to clean up sports talk. We're trying to be
a little bit more positive with it. We're trying to
get rid of the clickbait and get back to having
a fun atmosphere that people want to turn to every night.
