Speaker 1 (00:00):
The one rounded towards first diving stop, Tollia gets up,
clips to Haverson ball game, Michael Tolia what to play
right on the line at the back of the infield,
and the Rockies make it two in a row with
a comeback win here in Washington. Final score Rockies six,

(00:26):
Washington four.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
Welcome you to it Rocos Country Tonight short show Post
Rockies edition as the.

Speaker 3 (00:34):
Colorado Rockies two in a row.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
Six to four win over Washington, following up their ten
to one win at Atlanta yesterday, and all of a sudden,
the Colorado Rockies winners of what three of their last six?
I think it is the last five? Actually, yeah, we're
on a roll. You know they win tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
Isn't that the first three game win streak the Rockies
this year?

Speaker 4 (01:01):
I think they had maybe one earlier in the season.
I heard Jack say, so this would be their second.
I don't remember the first one.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
We can give them the website back because previously they
were unable to get to www.

Speaker 3 (01:14):
I see what you did there. Nice did. Yeah, we're
grow We got the Groner jokes already. It's I really missed.
This is that kind of night, Yeah, Grahad good to
have you back, buddy. Yeah, well, on a little vacation
you were, you well rested. I think I'm too well rested.

Speaker 4 (01:28):
No, it's hard to get back into the real where
I would after a week plus of isolation.

Speaker 3 (01:34):
Hey, I hear you. I'm looking forward to a little
bit of that myself at some point. So uh.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
Victor Vadnik on the win tonight. He's two and two
on the season. Carson punks Course started the game. Seth
Halverson with his save, fourth of the year. Losing pitcher
Brad excuse me, Kyle finny get Brad Lord did get
a hold over there for Washington. Hunter Goodman two not one,
but two home runs of this game. Mickey Moniac with
a home run as well, totally coming back from callup

(02:01):
from Triple A one to four with an RBI as well.
He's got to cut down on the strikeouts if he's
gonna continue. Why May had one point one in he's pitch,
no runs, no earn allowed. Jimmy Herbert also had an
inning with no runs, no earn allowed. Palm Quist started
the game four point two innings, pitch, four hits, four runs,
four earned, three walks, two strikeouts, two homers, allowed on

(02:23):
the game four Your Colorado Rockies Rockies again tomorrow night,
same bat time, same bat channel four to forty five
right here on KOA A, Washington had a very sparsely
attended game. Hair and the Booze were rating down in
the ninth inning as they gave up those two homers
there to allow the Rockies, who were losing headed end

(02:46):
of the ninth to get back in it then win
the game.

Speaker 3 (02:49):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (02:49):
We usually see it go the other way this year
with the Rockies, where they have a lead late in
the game and then they find a way to blow it.
But that was an impressive comeback win from them. And
Hunter Goodman leading all NL catchers and home runs with eleven.

Speaker 3 (03:03):
Maybe an All Star appearance, Yeah, I.

Speaker 2 (03:04):
Was gonna say he's really been making over the last month.
We're really been making a case for an All Star bid.
Here one of the lone bright spots on the season
for the Colorado Rockies.

Speaker 3 (03:14):
Rockies wrapping up a little.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
Bit of a road trip, obviously, they had the three
games Atlanta, the three games, excuse be four games in
Washington and then they'll be back home on the twentieth,
that's say, Friday night, to take on the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Speaker 3 (03:30):
In a three game series.

Speaker 2 (03:31):
You'll have the Dodgers coming to town next week, and
they'll wrap up the month at Milwaukee. He on the
twenty seven to twenty eighth and twenty ninth of this month.
As always, you can catch Colorado Rockies right here on KO. Hey,
a lot of text messages here about that. Someone says,

(03:51):
tell Jesse Thomas that the Washington Centers became the Texas Rangers,
not the Minnesota Twins.

Speaker 4 (03:58):
I think that's referencing as little pioneers of the game
thing during the Rockies on Deck show.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
Yep, that's hey. Good for the Rockies, man. I was
on Rick Lewis's show this morning. We were talking about
the advantage of betting against the Rockies.

Speaker 3 (04:16):
Burned you tonight?

Speaker 2 (04:17):
Yeah, well, you got to double it up after you lose,
so you know that, just for all those who are
paying attention this morning, that's what you gotta do.

Speaker 3 (04:23):
But Colorado Rockies, what are they? Fifteen and fifty seven? Yeah? Hey,
hurts the sail loud in a row baby, Yeah too
in a row.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
And again obviously they'll be playing tomorrow night four forty
five Mountain Day Lifetime right here on.

Speaker 3 (04:39):
Ko starting pitchers are expected to.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
Be Antonio Senzateela one and ten on the season with
a seven point two three ERA and Michael Soroco three
of four, three and four on the season with a
five point one four THERA. So that'll be uh, that'd
be a lot of fun. Yeah, good have been really
making a case for himself, but it'll almost a lone
bright spot, but one of the few certainly bright spots

(05:04):
for the Colorado Rockies this season, and honestly been one
of the best catchers in in Major League Baseball, certainly
from the hitting.

Speaker 3 (05:11):
Component of that.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
Prior to the game tonight, I believe he was batt
in two eighty four, leading the team in home runs
as well, And you know, I mean, it's just been
a season that has not exactly been.

Speaker 3 (05:29):
Great for most Rockies hitting.

Speaker 2 (05:32):
McMahon doesn't have the greatest batting average, but he certainly
finds a.

Speaker 3 (05:36):
Way to get on base.

Speaker 2 (05:37):
As he is, he walks fairly frequently forty walks on
the season for Ryan McMahon, second on the team in
homers at ten, nobody else in double figures. Mickey Moniac
got another home run, good for him, and then like
we said, Toldally you got the call up as well
from Triple A Ball bringing him back up. So hopefully
that the sort of rehab stint down there helps him out,

(05:59):
helps get him where he needs to be as a hitter.
He's never been a high batting average hitter, but I
was just striking out entirely too frequently for the Rockies
and now back in the lineup, only batting one to
ninety four on the season with eighty one strikeouts through

(06:19):
fifty four games. Last year one hundred and forty seven strikeouts,
you know, one hundred and sixteen games.

Speaker 3 (06:25):
But last year he did have the twenty five home runs.

Speaker 2 (06:27):
This year only six albums, So it'll be interesting to
see if he's he's able to do, you know, to
pick things back up with a couple of weeks back
down there and the miners does improve the batting average
one point today, so good for him.

Speaker 3 (06:39):
And he got the RBI as well, so good for
good for Tolio five six, six, nine zeros.

Speaker 2 (06:45):
The text line, appreciate you guys listening along here Broncos
Country tonight. I haven't had a whole lot of time
to sit here and talk about the post mini camp
when everything let's going on there. We are expecting all
of the Broncos except for at Perry to be healthy
for trading camp, and that's per Seawan Peyton. Midiicamp was interesting.

(07:09):
Obviously not full pads, I mean you're just in helmet shorts.
But there is a player that stood out. There was
a player on the defensive side of the ball that
stood out, and ke Robinson was a guy that when
he was drafted, I think a lot of people just said, Okay,
that's a special team's move, that's a special teams linebacker,

(07:29):
and maybe maybe he's got something else. He was all
over the place. Kel Robinson was everywhere on defensive midiicamp.
Now again we're talking about helmets and shorts, we're not
talking about a full on practices, but athletically certainly looked

(07:52):
like he belongs. He was disruptive, he was able to
get pressure on the quarterback. And so that's somebody that
I think we're definitely gonna have our eye on when
training camp gets here. Robinson was a guy that Nick
Saban said was the best special teams we.

Speaker 3 (08:13):
Ever had at Alabama.

Speaker 2 (08:16):
I thinks the guys just did not get as many opportunities.

Speaker 3 (08:23):
As you'd have liked to see.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
But certainly tested athletically, like a guy who has all
the upside in the world if you can find a
way to get him the reps. Now he's in a
crowded room, he'd be off the edge. Obviously, Nick Benito
and Jonathan Cooper would be starting there. Jodan Ellis figures
to rotate in heavily this year. Andrea Tillman certainly showed

(08:49):
that he can play in that role as well. So
it's going to be interesting to see how many reps
he gets, how much opportunity he gets as far as
being able to get out there and play defense.

Speaker 3 (09:02):
Off the edge.

Speaker 2 (09:02):
But you're talking about a guy that looked like he
belonged on this roster. Probably the most surprising player at
a mini camp so far. Other highlights, you know, Pat
Bryant getting involved quite a bit. Aveley was not there,
you know, dealing with a personal matter. He'll be back
in time for training camp. He'll be just fine. But

(09:23):
Pat Briant certainly got some reps and looked every bit
the part of what it is that they drafted him
to be.

Speaker 3 (09:30):
And you could see.

Speaker 2 (09:32):
The short area quickness of Jaqwan McMillan, and R J.

Speaker 3 (09:37):
Harvey on display. And of course there's the addition of JK.

Speaker 2 (09:42):
Dobbins, something we've talked about for several months on this show,
finally finally done as JK. Dobbins joins the fold. I
think here's I think there's an inherent benefit to having
a running back from a division rivals offense because I
I think in addition to what JK brings to the table,
in addition to being a veteran voice in the room,

(10:07):
in addition to being a good football player, in addition
to being a guy who can run, catch and pass protect,
he also has intimate inside knowledge of what it is
that the Chargers like to do on offense and what
it was they wanted to do to the Broncos defense,
the things that they saw that they felt like that
they could exploit, and so I think bringing that knowledge

(10:30):
into the room will help both sides of the ball.

Speaker 3 (10:34):
I think having that addition.

Speaker 2 (10:38):
Helps out both sides of the ball, and so it'll
be I think it's good to have him here.

Speaker 3 (10:42):
I think a lot of people were.

Speaker 2 (10:44):
Perhaps a little hesitant, especially people in the fantasy football community,
had been touting RJ. Harvey and saying that this he
eats into that. Well, I mean it does to a degree,
but Sean Payton has always had a bit of a
running back rotation anyway.

Speaker 3 (10:58):
So anybody sitting there attempting to.

Speaker 2 (11:04):
Put Harvey out there as some kind of three hundred
carry guy or something like that, that was never going to.

Speaker 3 (11:08):
Be the case. JK.

Speaker 2 (11:12):
Dobbins gives them somebody who has a similar skill set,
a little bit more size, a little bit better in
pass protection.

Speaker 3 (11:19):
But that one two punch.

Speaker 2 (11:20):
Between the two of them with some short yardage situational
stuff for estimate, and you know, a smattering of perhaps.

Speaker 3 (11:29):
Jillie McLoughlin out there.

Speaker 2 (11:32):
I think it gives them the opportunity to be able
to show you different looks without tipping their hand on
what it is exactly that they're doing. Five sixty six
nine zeros of text line. I'll be taking you guys's
questions and continuing the conversation here. I want to know

(11:53):
what you guys want to know about. We had several
questions on the text line regarding Travis Hunter, the Unsale
and Shadoor Sanders.

Speaker 3 (12:03):
Try to get into some of that.

Speaker 2 (12:04):
Deon Sanders not currently with the Colorado football team.

Speaker 3 (12:10):
I saw that story earlier today. Health issue.

Speaker 2 (12:12):
Yeah, I've been dealing with an illness and it's been
a couple of weeks. Like this isn't a yesterday thing.
This has been going on a little bit. Deal with
a health issue. Of course, we all know about the
foot and all that kind of stuff. The stuff that
he's been dealing with that Dion is not currently with,
you know, air quotes with the team. Now you're at
the point in time of the season where that's okay,

(12:39):
but that's something to keep your eye on.

Speaker 3 (12:40):
A future story.

Speaker 2 (12:41):
Is Deon Sanders going to be healthy enough to coach
this team going forward?

Speaker 3 (12:46):
And when he's not, who's the interim?

Speaker 2 (12:50):
Because if you're telling me that punt Shermer, excuse me,
Pat Shermer, excuse me, Punt Shermer, he's running things out there.
My confidence in this football team is a bit more shape.
A lot of questions about Shador Sanders. Talked to some
people up there in Cleveland over last week or so.

(13:12):
I think that based on the way things have played
out thus far in Cleveland, that you're probably looking at
Joe Flacco starting the season as the quarterback in Cleveland.
With Shador Sanders as number two, they probably get redicated
picket and put Dylan Gabriel on the practice squad. But
everybody I've talked to up there says Shadors is probably

(13:33):
the second best quarterback it's up there right now. Not
that he's blowing the doors off or anything, but he's
looked better than Dylan Gabriel thus far, according to people
that I've talked to. So it'll be it'll be interesting
to see how that situation plays itself out. Looking forward

(13:59):
to preseason football getting here in August, we're gonna have
a joint practice with the Arizona Cardinals, who are gonna
get out here a little bit early before their preseason game.
Would be good to see, my boy, John Gannon, how.

Speaker 3 (14:16):
You think the Cardinals are going to do this year.
I think they're gonna surprise people this year.

Speaker 2 (14:20):
They put a lot of capital in this offseason into
fixing that front seven on defense, and I think the
Arizona Cardinals are going to creep up on people this year.
I think they're a ten to eleven win football team.
I think it's entirely plausible that they win that division.
I am not sold on what Seattle is doing up there.

(14:46):
Then you've got the Rams, who you know, You've got
Stafford a year older, the shoulder excuse me, the elbow,
and the back issues. You've got a forty nine ers
team that's kind of coming apart at the seams because
they can't pay everybody, and they paid the quarterback. Obviously

(15:07):
the Broncos were recipient of that, as they got both
who Fong guy and or a green law because the
Niners were unable to pay both of them. In Arizona,
I think stands a real good chance of making some
noise in that division. I don't think it's and I

(15:28):
get it. I know people who listened to the.

Speaker 3 (15:29):
Show know that you know, I know the head coach
down there, and you know or think I'm pulling for
my guy.

Speaker 2 (15:35):
I didn't predict this last year, and I knew who
you know, and I knew him. But they went out
of their way to really bolster that defense in the
front seven. They added Keem Davis Gaither at the will.
They had a Josh Sweat as an edge rusher.

Speaker 3 (15:58):
Up front.

Speaker 2 (15:58):
They added Kalais Campbell dal and Tomlinson and Walter Nolan.
They are at front seven with you know camb Campbell,
Thomlinson and Nold up front. They've got Baron Browning off
the edge, Josh Sweat off the edge, Mac Wilson and
Keem Davis Gaither at the inside backers, and Zavan Collins

(16:18):
and bj oj Laurie Is backups there. They've got some bodies.
And it's not like the secondary is bad either. The
secondary has got some some talent too. They drafted will
Johnson in the second round, Jalen Thompson, a Buddha Baker
returning safeties, Max Melton on the outside, Garrett Williams at
the nickel. They they've got some. They've got some horses

(16:38):
on defense. The question is what are they going to
be able to do offensively? And they got you know,
Kyler Murray and James Connor back. If Kyler goes down
there in a world to trouble because all they've got
is Jacoby Brissett and Clayton Tune. But if Kyler can
stay healthy, they've they've got some got something there. The

(16:58):
offensive line isn't bad. The question is really the receiving corps.
But he's got Zay Jones, Marvin Harrison Junior, and Michael
Wilson is the starting three, and you know, Zay Jones,
a guy who's sort of better around, got bounced out
of Jacksonville. Marvin Harrison Junior they drafted in the first

(17:19):
round in twenty twenty four, but you know, didn't really
necessarily turn into the guy that they had hoped he
would be.

Speaker 3 (17:28):
In year one. They'll need more.

Speaker 2 (17:35):
More production out of him in year two if they
expect to do what I'm talking about.

Speaker 3 (17:39):
I mean, he did have sixty two.

Speaker 2 (17:40):
Receptions, eight hundred and eighty five yards a heighty touchdowns
for the rookie season, but they expected more. I mean,
he was targeting one hundred and sixteen times over the season,
So they're gonna have to get involved. Trey McBride looks
like the second coming over there at tight ends. They
got a little bit of something there. They paid him
pretty handsomely too. Yeah, he looks he looks good. James

(18:01):
Connor look good, Trey McBride look good. You know, the
running back they've got a little bit there. The question
is if that receiving core can get it done. And
if it can, then they figure to be dangerous because
that defense, as I pointed out, looks pretty lethal. The

(18:27):
front seven, like I said that they put together. I mean,
they got a whole new defensive line, Dalvin Thomas Di
at the nose, Kalais Campbell at the end, and they
added Walter Nolan in the draft. They they're they're stout,
and I'm kind of looking forward to the Broncos practices
against him. It'll be interesting to practice against a defense

(18:49):
like that. Oh, by the way, they coordinator Nick Rolis,
it's a name to keep your eye on. Rules very young,
but he's one of those guys that I was told
is destined for head coaching job here fairly soon.

Speaker 3 (19:09):
He's nicknamed the Sean McVay of defense.

Speaker 2 (19:13):
That's a good nickname. That has a real good nickname
that have. So we got more to get to here
on Broncos Country tonight, but uh, right now, we gotta
get some hit a break and get the news here
with Tony Mace
