Speaker 1 (00:00):
Fly from our own lobby as it is one hundred
years of KOA. Everybody is now upstairs at the party.
We got left down here like the red, redheaded step
children that we are.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
But no, not so much.
Speaker 1 (00:11):
Nick Ferguson having trouble with his head set there. That's
about how it goes. A little bit of a late
start there as I got a chance to catch up
with Scott Housting's earlier.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
That was pretty fun.
Speaker 1 (00:21):
Nope, still no microphone for Nick. You want to try
this one here? You had to sit all the way
down there at the end of the table.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
There we go. Now it's working. Let's try this again. Okay,
there you go.
Speaker 3 (00:32):
So what I what I was trying to say, was
that then speak for yourself, right, I usually do, yes, exactly.
Speaker 2 (00:39):
Nobody claims Nobody claims my speeches. There.
Speaker 3 (00:41):
It was.
Speaker 1 (00:42):
It's fun to be back on the air. I've been
out for about a week with I believe they call
it death. That's what I had as I was laid
up for a while.
Speaker 2 (00:50):
But it's good to be back.
Speaker 4 (00:51):
I thought you were walking your silken wind house.
Speaker 2 (00:54):
Lord, we're still doing that one I have no I
went to go look at that.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
I went to go look at that puppy, and they
sold it before I got there, So then what was
I gonna do?
Speaker 2 (01:01):
And I drove like two hours for that. I was
so mad. It was a good day.
Speaker 1 (01:05):
Down to training camp today. Of course they weren't in
pads anymore. We had three days of padded practice and then.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
Kind of late day today.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:12):
And then we've got football going on tonight.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
We've got the LA Chargers Detroit Lions or the Hall
of Fame game, So we've got actual NFL football, even
if it is Trey Lance starting versus.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
I don't even know whose quarterback.
Speaker 3 (01:23):
I've being a hater man Detroit. I know what a
hating on you are. I mean, look what you just said,
But then what did you follow it up with?
Speaker 1 (01:30):
Even if it's just Trey Lance against whoever? The Detroit strut.
Speaker 3 (01:33):
See, the idea is that when you're saying something like that,
just stop it at the insie compliment, because anything else
after that is not going to be a compliment.
Speaker 4 (01:42):
So I'm happy that football is back.
Speaker 3 (01:45):
And what this means is right, football is right around
the corner.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
We're just we're the court.
Speaker 4 (01:51):
It's here.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
The Hall of Fame game is here.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
Technically, I don't really count this particularly.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
So now I strot a wet blanket on the game.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
No, no, see, I didn't talk about players and their
inability like you said.
Speaker 1 (02:02):
As far as Tredy Lance, Why didn't see inability? I
just said they weren't starters Crey Lance versus whoever the
Detroit Lions haves as the guy I don't even know
who's starting for Detroit's game.
Speaker 4 (02:10):
The whole thing is, this is the start of the
NFL season.
Speaker 3 (02:14):
I don't really start the clock here, and but I
really say, okay, well, hey, football is around the corner.
Because once the other teams, you know, start their preparation
and then we start to see them play games. Now
we can officially kind of say that the season is
right upon us because this is kind of a bonus, right,
(02:35):
This is is kind of a.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
I could tease, it's football, NFL football, it is, but
it's a count and it's guys that are going to
be selling insurance in a couple of weeks.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
But you know, it's come on, sell insurance.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
Look, it's great for a lot of these guys because
neither the starting quarterbacks are playing tonight's game, which we're
going to see for a lot of teams once all
the other games start.
Speaker 4 (03:00):
But this is a great opportunity for those.
Speaker 3 (03:02):
Guys who are bubble guys who are not necessarily getting a.
Speaker 4 (03:05):
Lot of time in backs.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
Chances will you well know this opportite. Terrell Davis knows
this oppens.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
Was he was gonna get on a plane and fly
home and he got convinced to play in that game
over there in Japan or whatever. The next thing you know,
his career blow suffer special teams.
Speaker 3 (03:17):
But that's why when individual and you just said it yourself,
these games don't count.
Speaker 2 (03:22):
Well, well, the final score doesn't count.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
Everything in them, catch fight, everything in between actually counts
because guys are trying to make teams, and even if
you don't make the team that you're currently on, this
is an opportunity for you to showcase your ability to
all the other thirty one.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
Teams, right you putting tape together?
Speaker 1 (03:39):
So, like I always said, in the preseason, everything but
the final score counts, and the regular season, they'll final
score is the only thing that counts.
Speaker 3 (03:45):
Yeah, I mean, because if you are a third team linebacker,
you're trying to make the team, you know you could
only make the team.
Speaker 4 (03:52):
On special teams.
Speaker 3 (03:53):
You can't afford to miss any assignments. You can't afford
to miss any tackles at all.
Speaker 4 (03:58):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (03:59):
And so that's one of those things that that I
think is is great about the preseason. In the preseason games,
I love to it gives you a chance to see
guys in youfl you may otherwise not see, or you
may see in a different uniform. Sooner if they earn
that spot, you know, uh, you know, every all eyes
are going to be on that as everybody's sitting there
looking at watching these things on TV and watching to
(04:21):
see where.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
Their guys are going.
Speaker 1 (04:22):
I know, the Chargers who've got a Marion Hampton playing
this game, a guy a lot of Broncos fans were
big one, and you gonna get probably see a lot
of this year throughout a couple of games as the
Chargers take on the Broncos. So there are guys, there
are definitely guys to watching this that uh that are
going to be playing. Uh, they are gonna be playing
on Sundays. But you know, other quarterback situation, obviously you're
not going to see Justin Herbert or Jared goffin this thing.
Speaker 3 (04:43):
Well, you know what, it's it interesting that you bring
up the quarterback situation for the first time in.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
The long time.
Speaker 3 (04:49):
The Broncos don't really have to worry about trying to
figure out how is it that they solidify their quarterback
position because now they have their guy of the future bon.
Speaker 1 (04:59):
Nicks that they do but looked all right out there
today's the defense has had the better.
Speaker 2 (05:04):
The offense, though in this training camp.
Speaker 3 (05:05):
So far, usually been That's kind of what happens at
the beginning of training camp. The defense really assert themselves
and then as training camp moves on, more plays or
install Now you see the defense now find themselves on
their heels because usually that's when you introduce play action. Now,
(05:27):
when I think about Sean Payton's offense, it is not
your standard play pass type of offense because your quarterback
isn't constantly under center, and I'm hoping with the installation
as training camp moves on, we see an evolution of
this offense when they start to use a JK.
Speaker 4 (05:46):
Dobbins at RG Harvey.
Speaker 3 (05:47):
I mean, you mentioned Amaro Hampton who's playing tonight for
the Chargers. That was a guy like you said that
a lot of Broncos fans wanted to see. Now the
Broncos have two running backs now, ideas you have to
utilize both of those guys, and that should open up
more pass and plays down the field.
Speaker 1 (06:02):
Yeah, and one of those guys, of course, JK. Dobbins
is the guy that Hampton's replacing.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
There with the La Chargers.
Speaker 1 (06:09):
You know, one thing that we'd have seen out of
the Broncos, it looks like they're going to do a
little more outside zone this year. Certainly looks like they're
trying to practice and block that up a little bit
more so than certainly than we've seen the last couple
of years since Sean Payton's been here. Peyton's not really
been an outside zone guy through his career. Has always
been power gap you see. You know, he sees battering
rams through the b gaps and all that kind of stuff.
Speaker 2 (06:27):
It really does look like.
Speaker 1 (06:28):
They're gonna get a little outside zone going and maybe
a throwback to the Shanahan offense with some of these
runs this year.
Speaker 3 (06:34):
Well, we'll keep this in mind several years ago when
rfp Alex Gibbs, but Alex Gibbs spent some years down
in New Orleans with Sean Payton, trying to kind of
fix the problems with their run game and that offensive line.
Speaker 4 (06:50):
So if Sean Payton.
Speaker 3 (06:51):
Decides to toss in a little dash and I said
a dash of outside zone, he is quite familiar with it.
And I was talking to Benny File of today at
the training camp.
Speaker 2 (07:02):
Remember the black T shirt mafia, by the way, Yes,
is that a thing? It is a thing.
Speaker 1 (07:08):
Roy had the black teacher. Yeah, yeah, and he had
the black teacher. Everybody's going full black T shirt. I'm
just saying, black T shirt mafia is in. They make
fun of me over there in the sales department and
KOA for this stuff they make.
Speaker 2 (07:17):
They make fun of me for you catch it on.
Speaker 3 (07:19):
You did not set that trend catching on, So don't
make it appear as though you set that trend.
Speaker 2 (07:24):
Steve Job stole it from me, like you.
Speaker 3 (07:26):
Stole It's just something that happened by Uh.
Speaker 2 (07:30):
It was organic. It was just kind of coincidental. I've been,
you know, I've been. I've been wrapping black T shirts
for a while. It's this is a thing that's catch
I'm just telling you.
Speaker 4 (07:39):
It on listen. I don't think so.
Speaker 3 (07:41):
But I was talking to Bidie Follower today about what
changes could we possibly see what the Sean Payton's offense,
especially with Bo going into his second year, and we
both agreed that we're going to see.
Speaker 4 (07:52):
Somewhat of evolution.
Speaker 3 (07:54):
Maybe we didn't see it as much because Bo was
still a rookie and maybe coach Payton didn't want to
put too much on his plate.
Speaker 4 (08:00):
But now you're you're in your.
Speaker 3 (08:02):
Second year and towards the end of the season both
showed a lot of maturity. So if it's outside zone,
if it's under center, I just want to see more
of this offense. And I know you're the Ron Vley guy.
Speaker 4 (08:16):
For me, I want to see more Marvin Mims.
Speaker 2 (08:18):
Well, yeah, I obviously want to see more memes. We
saw that throughout the season.
Speaker 1 (08:22):
Every single game he stacked on to what he was
doing the previous game and the production went up. I
obviously want to see more of Marvin Mims. But you know,
I think Veyle is probably going to be the third receiver.
Speaker 2 (08:32):
In this offense.
Speaker 1 (08:33):
Pat Bryant will see a little bit of you know
as well, obviously, So I you know, it's you know,
for me, I mean, and I say that that way,
that's not counting Ingram at the tight end and.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
The funning backs and all that kind of stuff. But
I do think Vylee will be the third wide receiver
in their solo.
Speaker 1 (08:48):
Troy Franklin is finally living up to, at least in
terms of his camp, what he was drafted to be.
He's having a much better camp this year than he
was having last year.
Speaker 3 (08:56):
Now, now, I remember a couple of weeks ago, I
was talking about Troy Franklin, and if I'm not mistaken,
you call me like, uh, Troy Franklin.
Speaker 2 (09:08):
But but here it is.
Speaker 4 (09:09):
Here's what you're saying, the same thing that I noticed.
Speaker 2 (09:12):
Speaker 4 (09:14):
So so it's not me being an agent for Troy Franklin.
Speaker 3 (09:18):
But the idea is that he's taking his game to
another level and his confidence. I felt that was a
problem last year, but now it's kind of elevated.
Speaker 1 (09:29):
Yeah, it's uh, it's he certainly has looked better this camp.
Speaker 2 (09:32):
I'm not really, I'm not.
Speaker 1 (09:33):
I'm not buying it yet, but I am stepping up
and saying he's looking a little bit better this camp.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
We'll see, we'll see how that goes.
Speaker 3 (09:38):
So, if so, if we were looking at the Broncos
wide receivers, to have this conversation, and let's look at
it in the form of stocks, which which which I
know you like.
Speaker 4 (09:49):
I like to as well.
Speaker 2 (09:50):
We're on alert. We're not buying, we're not selling. We're
on alert.
Speaker 4 (09:57):
Now, what would it take for you to see from.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
In game productivity dropping the drop?
Speaker 4 (10:03):
Okay? So so in game let's talk.
Speaker 2 (10:05):
Let's talk about that.
Speaker 3 (10:05):
You said no drops, right, Is that just on short
routes and some media row that's especially on that deep stuff,
because that's what he's there for.
Speaker 1 (10:13):
Okay, He's there to be the other deep guy behind
Marvin Nims. And uh, you've got to be able to
catch the ball over the shoulder. You got to be
able to catch the nine. You got to be able
to catch a post. You got to be able to
catch those deeper routes and and have the concentration to
haul those balls in. Those have to be If the
football has got to be a one man cold to
Troy Franklin, you's got to be the only one catching it.
Speaker 2 (10:30):
He's got to be the only one coming down with.
Speaker 3 (10:31):
All right, So listen, let fast forward to the first
preseason game against the San Francisco forty nine ers. The
three things that you just laid out that Troy Franklin
has to show you in order from you to go
from a hold to the possibility of purchasing that move
it to a buy. Okay, so he does those three
things in the first preseason game.
Speaker 2 (10:52):
Now are you buying Troy Franklin. I could Yeah, I
could see that.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
If he's out there catching the football, making plays in
the preseason all that kinds.
Speaker 4 (10:59):
That's what you do.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
You stack tape on tape and you know that's that's
where it goes. So uh, yes, you're taunting us with
the beverages.
Speaker 2 (11:05):
That we are not allowed to have at the moment.
Speaker 1 (11:08):
We got stuck down here doing this because we're the
red headed step children. The carriagesdag a little whiskey over there,
and I'm sitting here like, come on, what is it
gonna take.
Speaker 2 (11:17):
I'm sitting here with a coke zero no in my
throat could use.
Speaker 1 (11:21):
I'm just saying some of Pappy's warm cough syrup right now,
if you want to do let's see, if you were
to in a bottle, no one, no one would really.
Speaker 4 (11:29):
Know, it would blend perfectly. See, no one would really know.
Speaker 2 (11:32):
Yeah, that's what we needed right there. Just to warm
the warm the throat.
Speaker 1 (11:36):
Oh he sees, Yeah, he's a that's not his that's
not his brand of cough syrup. That's my mind. I
got to I'm a little of a clem to right now.
I need a little cough syrup.
Speaker 2 (11:44):
It's right right. It's a Jackson the sales department over there.
We're celebrating one hundred years.
Speaker 1 (11:50):
Of Koa right here at the lobby of the iHeart Building.
We got the party going up on the third floor.
We can't let you guys in on all that super
secret stuff. The Governor's up there. There's a bunch of
VIP guests up there. I'm pretty sure I just saw
the money leech roll through here just a moment ago.
Speaker 2 (12:04):
Yes, from the Broncos. So there's a there you go.
There's Andy Linda all down there.
Speaker 1 (12:08):
I say, we got a whole bunch of a whole
bunch of people's Uh. We're enjoying life here on the
on Koa and celebrating one hundred years all the people
that h that had been here. We got to hit
a break, we come back, we get a little bit
more of this shoe is the Nebroncos country night right here.
Speaker 2 (12:22):
On kay.
Speaker 1 (12:28):
My heart building celebrating one hundred years of KOA. Well,
everybody's celebrating that upstairs. We're down here.
Speaker 4 (12:34):
Well, you keep making it seems.
Speaker 2 (12:36):
I'm not better. No, no, no, I'm not better. Nick.
It's fine, it's fine. I'm not invited to the party.
It's cool. The more this this is like a high
school all over again, I'm not invited to the party.
Speaker 3 (12:45):
The more you making an issue, the more it becomes
more of an issuest. The points, just think about that,
the points. We could be on the third floor broadcasting with.
Speaker 2 (12:56):
Eating my food, drinking the drink, talking to the people.
Speaker 3 (12:59):
How difficult would that be for everyone upstairs to socialize
and hear our voice and for me to hear you, Well,
we got all this other noise.
Speaker 1 (13:09):
It would be just like the places that we go
when we're on location, just like the bars that we
got some different though. That's like in word its speaking
of bars. We're gonna be at the burn Down, Yes,
that's our That's gonna be our official watch party bar
this year, So the guys, we won't be bouncing around
bar to bar this year.
Speaker 4 (13:23):
Be super easy.
Speaker 1 (13:24):
We'll be at the Burndown, which is an awesome place.
Oh you are a lifesaver.
Speaker 2 (13:27):
Thank you, thank you so much.
Speaker 1 (13:28):
They heard me complaining and they brought treks. Look at
this awesome thank you, thank you. They actually we got
that too soon. There we go, we'll do that, so
winner five six six night erals of text line. Although
I don't have the computer in front of me, I'm
trying to do the text line from off my phone.
So I apologize guys if I don't get back to you.
Speaker 2 (13:42):
So Brian texting me on there you got service? Yeah,
that service, it's pretty good. Okay, cool, I mean, you know,
it's not terrible.
Speaker 1 (13:49):
Ever since I switched, made the switch to a different
phone service, now all of a sudden we have.
Speaker 2 (13:56):
Now, all of a sudden, we have service down here.
So it's amazing how that works.
Speaker 3 (14:00):
Never not remind me again what kind of busset phone
that you had before.
Speaker 2 (14:03):
It wasn't the phone, it was the surface.
Speaker 1 (14:04):
So I switched from T Mobile to a Verizon, and
all of a sudden I have signaling this building, whereas
before I did not.
Speaker 2 (14:09):
It's interesting how that happens. Interesting how that happens. It's
weird how that works.
Speaker 1 (14:13):
But so if I don't answer, you on the text line,
I do see it appreciated.
Speaker 2 (14:17):
What else jump down at you from camp today?
Speaker 3 (14:20):
Well, for me, it is just kind of and I
know that the team had pads on the other day,
but it is the back and forth between the offense
and defensive line, right that that that inner chatter and
I love to see that because those are the two
groups that really get after it on every single day.
(14:43):
Because in the first couple of days of rev up,
some of the offensive lineman was just saying, well, listen,
you guys do that when we put pads on, right,
guys get in that first step. But now guys can
kind of relax. But seeing guys use their hands, and
I'm really excited to see what both of these groups
actually bring during the season because that offensive line is
(15:07):
going to be much better because they're facing off against
you know, DJ Jones, Zach Allen and a lot of
those guys and Roach.
Speaker 1 (15:16):
Man, I love Roach roaching mems trolling each other is
got to be a highlight of camp so far because
they are.
Speaker 2 (15:22):
Unrelated positioning groups.
Speaker 1 (15:24):
Yeah, and they are absolutely chirping each other.
Speaker 2 (15:26):
It's great, which, yeah.
Speaker 3 (15:28):
I love that because it's the love of competition that
you want. Every coach always talks about building culture, and
it's just like, okay, but what does that actually mean?
And to me, what we're seeing is watching the guys
interact with one another, go after one another. To me,
that that's fun. Watching them engage and dance before practice,
(15:48):
go out there and fire up the crowd. That's kind
of what it's like. And I told someone today, you
don't really have to like the people you work with.
Speaker 4 (15:57):
You don't have to go hang out with them afterwards.
Speaker 3 (16:00):
But when it's game time, right, it's party time and
it's going down.
Speaker 4 (16:04):
And that's exactly and and and that's what I.
Speaker 3 (16:07):
Enjoyed by watching the guys interact in practice because even
though it's not a precursor to determine what the seasonal
results are going to be, the one thing I know
that these guys are really galvanizing as a team. And
some of the free agents and the draft picks, now
you have a built in culture.
Speaker 4 (16:26):
Now you can bring those guys along. So I love
seeing that a podcast.
Speaker 2 (16:28):
Yeah I did too, And that's gonna be the interesting thing.
Speaker 1 (16:31):
Roach has had himself a pretty good camp so far,
and you know, they kind of lends to okay.
Speaker 2 (16:36):
Is that roach, is it Wadenberg? Is it both? You
know what's going on here? You know, we're just trying
to try to see what, you know, what these guys.
Speaker 1 (16:44):
What they can be, what they are versus what they
can be, and that's gonna be interesting thing. I think
this offensive line, uh you know, it's it's largely been
criticism of the offensive line so.
Speaker 2 (16:53):
Much have been quiet the last couple of years.
Speaker 1 (16:55):
Uh here, whereas you know, we we kind of for
about five six years, seven years there, especially at the
right tackle position, a little bit of the center position,
had had some struggles for the Broncos.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
But it looks like they've they've mostly got that line
shown up.
Speaker 1 (17:08):
And with the amount of money that they spent on it,
you think they would between care polls, Mike McGlinchey, Ben
Powers and Quinn Minors, both all those guys are raking
in terms of cash right now. Wattenberg, you know, we'll
see when it comes time for him.
Speaker 2 (17:19):
But it's it looks like.
Speaker 1 (17:20):
That part of it is at least settled for the
number broadcast.
Speaker 3 (17:23):
Well, it's settled because you got an offensive line group
who is playing together for the second consecutive season, and
that cohesiveness is really important. Now you mentioned the fact
of the financial part in the commitment that each guy
has in accordance to the team, validating the ability. To me,
(17:46):
we're going to see more of that validation once the
season start and the run game right, because remember last
year it was the fault of the running backs.
Speaker 2 (17:57):
Last year it was their fault.
Speaker 3 (17:59):
So now we get a chance to see a group
together in Sean Payton's offense for a second season.
Speaker 4 (18:03):
With bow Nicks. You went out and got JK. Dobbins
and RJ.
Speaker 3 (18:07):
Harvey for that sole purpose to be able to run
the ball. So I'm interested to see how that comes together.
And I'm interested to see can this team for the
first time in several years have a consecutive one hundred
yard rusher.
Speaker 1 (18:21):
Have one hundred yard We haven't had one hundred yard
rusher in a game since Latavious Murray back in what
was it twenty twenty three.
Speaker 2 (18:27):
Prior to that had been Melvin Gordon in twenty twenty two.
Speaker 1 (18:29):
That's how long it's been since, Sobronco's running the actual
had one hundred yards in a game.
Speaker 2 (18:32):
And yeah, with Sean Payton's rotation, it can.
Speaker 1 (18:34):
Be a little tough to do that because you're constantly
jockeying guys in and out. But it'll be interesting to
see if we have more of a hot hand approach
this year, or maybe a less cold hand approach.
Speaker 2 (18:43):
And go from there.
Speaker 3 (18:44):
But this is where I hope that the mentality changes,
where it's not a rotation of backs where okay, you
get the first two carries, no matter how many yards
as you gain, we're gonna take you out.
Speaker 4 (18:55):
No, no, no, no.
Speaker 3 (18:56):
I'm looking for more of that Mike Shanahan approach, which
gonna we're gonna ride this horse on this drive. Right,
if for some reason something stall, maybe you may think
of putting.
Speaker 4 (19:06):
Another guy in.
Speaker 3 (19:07):
But just imagine if you were a running back, how
difficult would it be for you to establish a rhythm?
Speaker 4 (19:14):
Like you get two or three.
Speaker 3 (19:15):
Carries whom someone else is coming in, so it's it's
hard to kind.
Speaker 4 (19:19):
Of get into a rhythm.
Speaker 3 (19:20):
That's why when I talk to people outside of the
station and they tell me how bad the run game was,
and I put it to the same way, how difficult
would it be for you being a running back if
you were changed, exchange out or rotated out after maybe.
Speaker 4 (19:36):
Two or three plays, it's hard to get in the rhythm.
Speaker 1 (19:38):
Yeah, Dick Ferguson here from the well I'll be the
Irhard building where we're celebrating one hundred years of KOA.
A lot of luminaries, a lot of dignitaries here, and
it has been an absolute blast today to see the
people that have come through and appreciate this long standing
(19:59):
radio and you know that you and I get to
be a part of that tradition every night with people
with with Broncos Country.
Speaker 2 (20:05):
Tonight here as well.
Speaker 3 (20:06):
You know, it's been interesting to see so many people
who once worked in this company and whatever capacity. To
see those individuals, you know, welcome back or even wanting
to come back themselves.
Speaker 4 (20:22):
So I took a stroll on that third.
Speaker 3 (20:24):
Floor and uh, it was great to see a lot
of people.
Speaker 1 (20:27):
Man. Yeah, the former former hosts here, guys that are
oh State Andy Lindall and Scotts were here.
Speaker 2 (20:33):
The governor of course was here, you know, former Governor
Hicklober here. I saw Don Martin. Yeh, Don Martin here, and.
Speaker 3 (20:40):
I remember the first time Don and I met was
when the Broncos were playing in the Super Bowl against Carolina.
Ran into him on Radio row and just every year
since then, I would run into him, but I didn't
expect to see him here, but uh yeah, man, he hear,
(21:00):
and he's been, you know, a real cool guy over
the years. So it just it just speaks to you,
know how when when you've been in business for a
long period of time.
Speaker 4 (21:09):
I mean some people have long stand pound with some
people don't. But just to know.
Speaker 3 (21:14):
That you still kind of welcome back in that way, man,
that's pretty awesome.
Speaker 2 (21:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (21:18):
For a radio station who have been around for one
hundred years, that is that is a very very long time.
There are very few that have accomplished that that goal
or that that milestone. I guess as it were, five six,
six nine zeros of text line guys, I'm doing that
off my phone, so I see you guys.
Speaker 2 (21:33):
I'm sorry, I'm not responding.
Speaker 1 (21:34):
Or as interactive as as I normally am. I get
a lot of questions about bon Nix and how he's
looked so far at at Trent came I think he's
looked in confident in command, like a second year quarterback
should more a lot what's what's the word, I'm looking
for a lot more confident in himself rather than than
rushing in and out of things. You know, like a
rookie year, you run around with the chicken with your
your head cut off. U.
Speaker 2 (21:55):
He looks a lot more cool, calm and collected, And
I think that'll translate on the field this year.
Speaker 3 (22:00):
It does, because when you are a rookie, I don't
care what position you play, but more or less, when
you play the quarterback position, man, your head is going
to be spinning. And when you are in the offense
that Sean Payton runs, it's going to make things that
much more difficult because you think about first getting to
play in your helmet and then being able to disseminate
(22:22):
it to everyone spending the call out. Yeah and listen, man,
I don't know what it is with these offensive coordinators.
Speaker 4 (22:29):
Mike shana Ane was the same way. But it's like
one call.
Speaker 3 (22:33):
May have like twenty two words, and I'm like, I
know the call is telling each guy what to do
from protection the running backs of wide receivers, but I'm like.
Speaker 2 (22:43):
It's got to be a way to shorten that call.
Speaker 4 (22:46):
It's got to be And.
Speaker 3 (22:47):
That's what you're kind of seen from Bow this year,
Like it's more of a strong command over the play call,
because we always talk about quarterbacks and showing the command
to be able to throw the ball, but having command
over the play.
Speaker 2 (23:01):
Call, you got to spend that thing out twice in
the huddle. You get you got to get it in
your ear. Then you've got to regurgitate it twice.
Speaker 1 (23:06):
And so you got to think about that in the
span of you know, twenty four.
Speaker 2 (23:09):
Seconds to try to get that out. If you're like
unbalanced spread gun.
Speaker 1 (23:12):
Right F they trade thirty six zone trap line, push
to lay.
Speaker 2 (23:15):
Two read zero on two on two and then and
then just run it back.
Speaker 3 (23:18):
You know, wait a minute, now, what happens when someone
in the huddle goes, I'm sorry, said I.
Speaker 2 (23:21):
Didn't get that unbalancedpread gun?
Speaker 1 (23:22):
Right F they trade thirty six zone trap line push
delay two read zero on two on two.
Speaker 2 (23:27):
Delay a game.
Speaker 1 (23:27):
Yeah, I know, we're we're on a dinner and then
we're yeah, and by that time we're breaking the huddle lakes,
you know.
Speaker 2 (23:31):
So it's you know, trying to get that.
Speaker 1 (23:33):
Out, Get that out quick, get it out clear, so
that everybody hears it and you know and understands they're
part of it.
Speaker 3 (23:38):
Do you think that it's an indictment on any quarterback,
not just Bow, but any quarterback when the coordinator has
to shorten their play calls themselves so the quarterback can
get it disseminated and get in and out of the whole.
Speaker 1 (23:52):
Noah, I do think because that's part of your job.
Part of your job is to take now. I also
think that a lot of coordinators and and an offense
is unnecessarily use ferbage tense play calls when you could
short it down.
Speaker 2 (24:01):
The Patriots did a great job.
Speaker 1 (24:03):
Of converting to what's called the Aarhart Perkins system, which
is a much much shorter You can get it at
six to eight words to get the whole playout and
it's it's it gets you out of the huddle much faster,
and there's there's fewer delay of.
Speaker 2 (24:14):
Games from this vacations.
Speaker 3 (24:15):
Okay, so you are a fan of reducing a call
and is not an indictment on the player. If a
head coach or offensive coordinator has.
Speaker 1 (24:24):
To do that, well, I think it goes both ways
because as a quarterback, that's your job to learn it, right.
But I do think that that there are offenses that
are unnecessarily dense when it comes.
Speaker 2 (24:33):
To that stuff. I don't.
Speaker 4 (24:34):
I don't feel as those the defense got you guys
get away with murder.
Speaker 2 (24:37):
You guys got to bought a five six word play
call defense.
Speaker 3 (24:41):
I hate that because a lot of offensive players say, well,
you know, or are we smarter than you guys?
Speaker 4 (24:46):
Because we get.
Speaker 3 (24:47):
These long, fabricated words and you guys get these three
or four word.
Speaker 4 (24:52):
You know, coverages. But what they don't think about is that.
Speaker 3 (24:55):
And I played in the scheme where you may have
two double digit calls based off animation, right, so the
call may be simple, with the execution of the call itself.
Speaker 2 (25:06):
The whole other story.
Speaker 4 (25:07):
It's a whole because.
Speaker 3 (25:08):
If you get a shift, you get a relow, a
guy moves and another it changes everything and you have
to be mentally spot on. But I'm a fan of
making life easier for the player to go out and execute.
Speaker 2 (25:19):
We'll come back.
Speaker 1 (25:20):
In national media, person predicted the Broncos to finish last
in the division said the Raiders were going to make
the playoffs and we'll talk about the challenge. I threw
down after hearing that. You listen to Broncos Country Night
