Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to a Broncos Country Tonight short show post Rockies edition.
(00:04):
Benjamin Albright here with you, and man, feels good to
be coming to you, guys. Awful win, even if it
is just a preseason win, it's a win nonetheless, as
the Denver Broncos shellacked the Arizona Cardinals. The final score
in that one was twenty seven to seven. Broncos did
(00:27):
just about anything and everything they wanted to do all
evening in that game. Arizona couldn't get any offense going
after Jacoby Brissett left the game. Brissette went six of
eight fifty seven yards at a touchdown. After he left
the game. It was Clayton tune and they were playing
out of tune for most of that one as they
(00:47):
just couldn't get anything going on offense. Broncos defense, second
team defense, its third team defense really just completely shut
him down. Broncos did play Evan Ingram, who had a
catch for fifty eight yards, and I think you just
met everybody seeing that highlight. Other than that, none of
their top twenty four players played in that game. And
(01:09):
guys like starters like you know, Courtland Sutn or Devon
Vallet all those guys Sat didn't get any run. We
did get a couple of carries out r. J. Harvey,
three of them for eighteen yards, one of us which
was a touchdown, But most of the work went to
Watson ten carries thirty four yards Auto Guest and they
got nine carries only twenty yards. That was probably the
lone dim spot as it were in the game for
(01:32):
the Broncos. Chiliebo Gloflin broke one off thirty five yards,
three carries forty eight yards. Even Courtney Jackson, the receiver
and returner one catch for thirty yard, probably earn't himself
a spot on the practice squad as he has been
rising throughout camp.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
We did see a little bit of some of the rookies.
Speaker 1 (01:48):
Pat Bryant four catches seventy yards, Try Franklin four catches
sixty seven yards, caught both those touchdowns we mentioned him
at Ingram Michael Bandy three catches fifty five k in
Priest cord In three fifty two, Jackson two catches for
thirty two, Watson four catches for twenty tighter Beday two
catches for sixteen Only four carries for fourteen yards for Miday,
(02:09):
not a big workload day for him. Joaque Davis and
Juwan Newton probably fighting for the same practice squad spot.
Davis one catch eleven yards, Newton two catches seven yards,
either putting in a big dent there. Trent Sherfield one
catch five yards. Kay Loder catch for four, although he
had some penalties in that one that looks like he
needs to clean up. Lucas croll A catch for three. R. J.
Harvey catch for two and then rounds it out from
(02:32):
the rock out side of the house. Will lots two
for three from field goals three for three for extra points.
A little shaky this preseason in terms of field goal kicking.
Somebody to keep your eye on, you know, as things
go on the return front. Michael Bandy one point return
for seven yards. Juwan Newton won for five. Courtney Jackson
was the big story there three punt returns forty three
(02:53):
yards out of him. On kick returns, Tyler Bedey had
the only kick return for twenty seven yards. Jerry cross
Shaw two punts of fifty four and a half average,
mostly because of the long of sixty one one touchback.
He's also been a little shaky with the punting, which
you know you expect a little bit out of the rookie,
but it's not been what you.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
Would hope from him thus far.
Speaker 1 (03:18):
On the defensive side of things, Lavelle Bailey and Jordan
Turner led all tacklers.
Speaker 2 (03:25):
Each had five.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
Jordan Turner's had himself a couple of games. We haven't
really talked about him enough, I think, and this is
a guy who continues to make plays linebacker in Michigan State,
and he has continued to make plays. He had a
sack and a half, you know, in this one, and
it's just you know, he has really been kind of
impressive throughout this preseason. Just not somebody that's been talked
(03:48):
about a ton because you've had LaBelle Bailey kind of
overshadowing him. But Jordan Turner out of Michigan State somebody
to keep your eye on as well.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
No other Bronco.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
Registered a sack or any interception, did have some passes defense. Uh,
he was a Rik battle one down. Christiane Williams got
in there and had one as well, So there were uh,
you know, everybody got in on the tackles and all that.
I'm not gonna run down to box score on those,
but shot a barn four tackles under it until at four.
(04:18):
Those guys, you know, they got they got what they
need to get done done, and so I thought the
overall that was uh uh, it was a pretty good
day overall for for the Broncos and especially their defense,
which which completely shut down.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
And that's honestly, that's how it's banned.
Speaker 1 (04:35):
I mean, the Broncos defense, second third, two defense is
completely shut down the Niners and the Cardinals. Now outside
of that one large play in the San Francisco game
in which McMillan just just you know, got got beat,
you know for the touchdown, uh and then uh Sibby
Fejoco uh caught that touchdown up to seem uh in
(04:56):
this one out. Outside of those two plays, I mean,
they Arizona and and San Francisco haven't been able to
do anything to the Broncos backup defense. And you know,
and even when they had the first team defense out
there and they get be in the one play, I mean,
the Broncos were still missing three starters as Brendon Jones,
Drake green Law, Alex Singleton and o those guys were
playing at that point in time either. So we haven't
(05:17):
seen the full might of the Broncos defense on display yet,
and it's still been a pretty appreciably good showing so far.
Jarrett Stidham again near perfect in the preseason this game,
sixteen to twenty three, two hundred forty yards, two touchdowns,
no picks, one thirty two and a half. Ratings Sam
ailing are fourteen of sixteen, one sixty two and a
one to eight point nine rating. There have been some
(05:39):
calls out there on social media where people have been
suggesting that the Bronco should entertain and or trade Jared Stidham,
and I disagree with that.
Speaker 2 (05:54):
You know this.
Speaker 1 (05:55):
League, you you do experience injuries to the quarterback position,
and I'm certainly not wishing an injury owned Oh but
we saw he got one last year when he had
a backfracture. You're gotta need a backup quarterback. He's gonna
have to be able to play some snaps and and
you've got to have a guy who knows the offense
well enough that you're not having to change things just
(06:16):
to roll them out there. And that's a that's a
big thing. And with all due respect to Sam Ailinger,
Jarrett Stidham is better than he is. We saw Stidham
at least play competently at times, and we've certainly seen
him take that to another level. He's way too good
to be playing against twos, you know, in this preseason,
(06:38):
and so I would suggest that that the idea that
you would try to trade Jarrett's Stidham, he is not
one that makes a lot of sense to me. I
think if you're looking at trade candidates here, I don't
think there's there's too too many by the Broncos. If
you could get Tomorrow mannything for Tomary Mathis, I think
you take it. But I think in the offensive side
(06:59):
of the ball there's one or two you could look
at them might be a trade candidate. Jalil McLoughlin would
seem to maybe maybe be that guy you know estimate
hasn't really shown up in the way that you want.
McLoughlin has at times. But you've got R. J. Harvey
and JK. Dobbins, so we're gonna get the lion's share
the carries behind them, Tyler Bday, Blake Watson, those guys
(07:20):
offer more in terms of being able to pass, protect
and kick return and those kinds of things. I would
suggest that you could trade away at Jalil McLoughlin pick
up an additional draft pick and still have you know,
a three or four back room depending on.
Speaker 2 (07:35):
How you utilize the practice squad.
Speaker 1 (07:36):
For that, I don't think you need to worry about
I don't think you need to worry about his overall
production or what he brings to the table because McLoughlin would.
Speaker 2 (07:44):
Be the third guy in the rotation. Anyway.
Speaker 1 (07:47):
We did see some news today that Washington's shop and
Brian Robinson. I would suggest that's not a thing here.
The Broncos don't need that necessarily. So, you know, as
far as running backs being out there on the open market, McLoughlin,
if he were to be shopped, might be one of
the better running backs available you know, out there right now.
(08:10):
So it's just something to keep your eye on. Not
suggesting that they're shopping him you know, whole hardly or anything,
but it is something to keep you an eye on.
As listening to Broncos Country at night programming news and
notes for for the week. We have the same deal
(08:31):
tomorrow where it's going to be a short show and
and I'll do the I'll do the the after the
short show after the Rockies on Wednesday, it'll be K
I'll be on K Sports and and Zach will handle
the short show for a BCT. On Thursday, I think
(08:55):
it's another double header for me in which I will
be on KI Sports and then myself and Nick on
Broncos Country tonight, and then Friday it'll be I'll handle
KI Sports and do the BCT after the Rockies game.
Speaker 2 (09:15):
So busy week. But that's your your programming, news.
Speaker 1 (09:19):
And notes for for the show this week and go
from there, So.
Speaker 2 (09:27):
Hope you guys will join us for that.
Speaker 1 (09:29):
What do you guys think of the Broncos being to
and O at this point and the and the offense,
the starting offense, I should say, not really looking like
where you wanted against the forty nine ers, probably get
another chance to take a look at the starting offense
against the Saints, Sean Payton indicated that they were going
to try and get about, you know, eight to twelve
snaps out of the offense in that one gives you
(09:49):
another opportunity to get it tuned up before the season.
And I'm curious because I think everybody's confidence level in
the backups is soaring. Certainly what we say out of
Jared Stidham last two weeks and what we've seen on
the Broncos defense, should have the confidence that if guys
go down, we've got the talent in place to be
(10:10):
able to do to next man up, and I would
suggest that's big. However, the starting offense in that forty
nine ers game did not look where I think you
would want them to look at this point. And we've
sort of excused a little bit of the offensive struggles. Sam, Well,
(10:31):
they're going up against the Broncos defense. Of course they're
going to look bad. And I get that's that's something
that you know that you can definitely say that is
something that probably contributes. But Bo in the offense, I mean,
frankly struggled out there. Bo went six and eleven for
thirty one yards, didn't find the end zone, which is
(10:51):
good for about a sixty quarterback ratings. That's not particularly good, Harvey.
In that game, they didn't get Dobbins out there. We
had seven carries twenty five yards as three to six
of carry eleven in which came on one run, and
it just didn't see much out of the starting receivers
(11:12):
in that one. Valet had Uh had one catch for
six yards. It was just Mims had to catch for three,
Someton had to catch for two. It just they just
it felt, you know, like a game in which you
just didn't have a lot of you know, a lot
of things going for the offense. It made it seem
(11:33):
like that that this was going to be something that
is going to take a leap in year two.
Speaker 2 (11:38):
And I think a lot of people are counting on that.
Speaker 1 (11:40):
So there's been some some varying discussions on where the
confidence level is. And I'm curious what you guys think
of that. For me, I'm I'm I'm not in panic mode.
I wouldn't say that I'm even necessarily even worried. I
would just suggest that I have an eye on it.
Speaker 2 (11:55):
You know.
Speaker 1 (11:55):
It's one of those things where you know, I'm looking
at this and and I have not seen this offense
play yet at the level that you would want this
offense to be at. For the conversations that they're in
all these national conversations about the Broncos being in the
Super Bowl, and I haven't seen the starting offense there yet,
doesn't mean they won't get there, doesn't mean they won't
(12:16):
get there in a few games, doesn't mean they won't
be there by Week one, but we just haven't seen
it yet, and I think I think there's something to
the whole seeing is believing aspect of it. Broncos fans
have been thirsty for an offense that's not just there,
but is good, that can take the lead, that can
(12:37):
carry this team when it needs to, and those are
not things that we've seen. And I'm not sure that
we're at the point where this is something that, without
having seen it, that most fans are going to be
(12:59):
super confident in. So it's you know, I don't know that. Again,
I don't want to sit here.
Speaker 2 (13:09):
And be upset about this.
Speaker 1 (13:11):
I just my worry is more that we're expecting something
that hasn't arrived, and the backlash off that, especially early,
maybe something that well, I hope we don't encounter. Let's
put it that way. I hope that the offense puts
it together and we don't actually encounter that. But as
it sits right now, there are some things they need
(13:32):
to work out. Other than that, I'm curious as to
what you guys want to see out of the forthcoming
Saints game before we get into the regular season. The
good news for the Broncos is the opening two games
that you have at home against the Titans and then
against the Colts. The opening two games that you have
this season are games that look pretty winnable. I mean,
(13:59):
you would think on pay that this is eminently winnable.
A rookie quarterback making his first ever start on the
road in Denver against this defense, you would think if
the Broncos can't win, that that's a problem. But stranger
things have happened. You know, game one week one. Teams
have all off season to prepare, and we've seen teams
(14:20):
that put their entire preparation into that one game and
then you know they'll win a game like that and
they lose out the rest of the season. Certainly seen
plenty of that over the years. For me, I think
I don't expect the Titans game to particularly close. I
expect the Broncos to put it to them. But you know,
the Titans have certainly shown this preseason that they've got
(14:42):
they've got a little talent on the offensive side. You know,
cam Ward is certainly willing to pull the trigger and
throw the ball over the yard. And if they got
receivers that can make catches, which was a problem in
the game that I saw, they could be a little something.
And so I think you don't want to sleep on
I mean to see a you never want to sleep
on anybody. Everybody's you know, is good and capable of winning,
(15:05):
you know, on any particular Sunday, but or Monday.
Speaker 2 (15:08):
Or Thursday or whatever game is being played on this year.
Speaker 1 (15:10):
But on pay per the Titans don't seem to have
much of a defense, the offense, very young quarterback win
can for a start. There's there's a lot of ingredients
there for for moroncos w And I think you need
those two wins. I think you need to come out
the gate with that that Titans Colts win, because you
start to run into a bit of a buzz saw
after that, you know, you get seems like the Chargers,
the Bengals, the Eagles, and that's before you go on
(15:31):
the road to London, and that could get ugly fast.
You could you could be headed into London down two three, uh,
just as easily. I do believe they'll probably a winning record,
but it's not without the rev of possibility to be
going to that game two and three, And that's what
you you don't want to have happened, and I'm curious
to sort of see how these guys react and bounce
(15:52):
back based on the expectations that Sean Payton has placed
on them in the national conversation. Love the fact that
he setting the standard at excellence. I love that I do.
But we haven't seen how this young roster reacts to
that sort of pressure. And when I say reacts to
that pressure, what I really mean is reacts to losing
(16:14):
in that environment. And you will lose some games this year.
It's going to happen. So I think that's probably where
I have my eye on, less about the preseason other
than getting the offense on track, and more about that
first four or five games and figuring out, you know,
how this young team sort of puts everything together a
(16:36):
week to week and what they're like after a loss,
is that if they're able to shake themselves and get
themselves back into the right headspace because of some of
these national conversations head coaches have, we come back going
on the league a little bit, see what else is
out there. This is to Broncos Country Night right here
on k Welcome back to it Broncos Country Tonight. Ben's
(16:57):
bit Albright here with you. Short show post Rocky's edition,
We'll have another one of these tomorrow and then basically
be pulling double duty. Wednesday, I'll do KI Sports, Thursday,
He'll do KI Sports, and we'll have Live BCT on Thursday,
and then Friday be handling KI Sports as well. So
(17:17):
I appreciate you guys being along for the Rdzach Seaker's
gonna handle the post Rocky edition Wednesday night, So thanks
to Zach for being.
Speaker 2 (17:25):
Able to do that. Looking forward to.
Speaker 1 (17:30):
The final preseason showdown in New Orleans this week, said
Denver Broncos will end their preseason at the place that
Sean Payton started his head coaching career. I'm sure that'll
be a lot of fun for everybody. And then from
there it's you know, Tennessee Titans here against the Denver
(17:51):
Broncos to open season, and I think we're all looking
forward to that. We've got a lot a lot going
on this season here at KOA with all that, looking
forward to all that. The gambling and fantasy shows will
be back. We got Bet three sixty five on board
as a title sponsor, Gonna do a lot of cool
stuff with them to get you guys some uh, some
cool specials with their you know, with their app and
(18:11):
their there uh waydering products. So if you guys want
to download the bet three six five app and and
be prepared for that coming here, some cool stuff coming
with that here pretty soon. Obviously on away games, we
will be at the burn Down Bar. We did that,
uh for the Niners game. We're gonna be doing it
again for the Saints game this weekend. For the preseason
(18:33):
come on out, had a lot of fun with everybody
came out last time.
Speaker 2 (18:36):
What did we giveaway last time?
Speaker 1 (18:38):
It was we didn't have we didn't have all our
promotions and stuff set up yet, so we wound up
giving away bar tabs, I think it was, which was
was super fun just going around and doing trivia questions
and you know and giving away bar tabs.
Speaker 2 (18:50):
So that was that was a lot of fun.
Speaker 1 (18:53):
But looking forward to hopefully seeing you guys out there
on uh Saturday this Saturday against now orl and over
at the Burndown. And that'll be every away game this year,
with the exception of obviously the Christmas Day game. Burnedown
will be open, so we will not be doing one
for the Kansas City Chiefs Thursday night football game on
Christmas Day, So.
Speaker 2 (19:13):
Just so everybody is aware. A lot of stuff going
on around the league right now.
Speaker 1 (19:25):
The Browns officially named Joe Flacco as their starter. I
don't think anybody was surprised by that. You know, it
was basically going to be him or Kenny Pickett, and
Pickett has been a non factor all preseason. There was
(19:46):
obviously some attempts to manufacture some drama over the Browns
starting quarterback decision, but the exact outcome we've known for months.
Joe Flacco will start the season, no surprise. There is
still obviously some drama to be sorted out in that room.
Flacco will get the start Week one, but you look
at that six games stretch to start the season, that's
pretty brutal for Cleveland, and.
Speaker 2 (20:09):
They may wind up.
Speaker 1 (20:12):
I mean, obviously injury could change that, but you may
wind up, especially if you go for six, changing the
calculus on some of that and taking a look at
what else it is that you want to do with
some of the younger guys to see if you have
your quarterback of the future.
Speaker 2 (20:25):
Not both Dylan Gabriel and shood Or Sanders.
Speaker 1 (20:31):
I thought it played fairly well and their starts in
the preseason thus far. Pickett hasn't played yet in the
preseason due to the hamstring injury. Be finally practiced last week,
presumably ready to play this Saturday. Sanders status currently unknown
if the oblique injury after the warm ups in the
joint practice Wednesday. And then Gabriel, who missed the first
(20:52):
preseason game, obviously got the start with Sanders sitting this
past week and played fairly well. I had got a
couple of boneheaded maneuvers that Picks was ugly, I mean ugly,
But beyond that, he seemed to show a pretty good
understanding of the offense and was mostly accurate on his
passes in that game. So we'll see, you know, kind
(21:14):
of what comes of that. But Joe Flacco named the starter,
surprise to nobody in terms of being the Brown starter
this year. Matt Stafford finally returned to practice after a
weird week of oncertain injury updates. Rams got the good
news today after weeks quarterback Matt Stafford finally returned to practice.
(21:35):
Rams got out in front of the news immediately tweeting
out a picture of him in the field the red
practice jersey. He took part in drills, did enough to
impress Sean mcvagh A limited work. Mcvayson, I thought he
did a good job today. We had twenty six plays
of team, did a really nice job managing the huddle.
I thought he saw the field well, thought he went
where the ball should go. A good competitive work on
both sides, and despite his return, McVay opted to play
(21:57):
things very carefully, deeming Stafford as day to day and
week to week, calling it a very fluid situation. They
called it great that Stafford was able to get back
to practice and said that the team will see how
he response the rest of the day and tomorrow, and
that should be a welcome surprise for Rams fans who
have frankly been dealing with murky updates about the back
(22:18):
injury throughout training camp. Stafford missed time early. The team
said he was dealing with an aggravated disc, and then
he reportedly received an epidural to try to solve the issue,
and it looked like it was close to resolving last week,
even reaching a point where McVeigh said Stafford woul appear
at practice for the next part of his recovery. That
didn't happen, and then that started prompting more questions about
his status. Mcveigh's seemed less certain about stafford status after
(22:41):
that miscue, leading to him to wonder if the issue
was more serious than maybe initially reported, but as long
as he doesn't experience any setbacks. He basically got three
weeks to acclimate to the game before the Rams take
on the Houston Texans in Week one. Stafford, at thirty
seven years old, remains one of the better quarterbacks in
the NFL when he's healthy. He threw for twenty touchdowns,
eight and or sceptions last year while leading the Rams
(23:01):
to a ten to seven record at playoff berth. It
could be better this season if they added DeVante Adams
a free agency Adamson Puca Decu expected to be one
of the better receiving duos in the NFL this season.
If Stafford has to miss any time, should be Garoppolo
would be under center, So the Rams announced Garoppolo would
(23:23):
not take part in the preseason, which is a sure
sign he'll be the team's number two when the regular
season opens. Around the rest of the league. Trey Hendricks
and the Bengals traveled to face the Commanders on ESPN's
Monday Night Football, but neither Bengals star pass rusher Trey Hendrickson,
Nor Steiber wide receiver Terair mclarn i got to play.
(23:44):
Henderson reported to camp on July thirtieth, but is it
holding in ever since the NFL is reigning Sack King
looking for a contract extension. Mclauren reported to camp July
twenty seventh, but he's been holding in search of a
contract extension. I've been told that the Commanders and McLaren
are actually fairly close, so we'll see if they get.
That's supposed to be just over thirty million a year
on that deal. As for the Bengals, they've been listening
(24:07):
to trade offers for Hendrickson. The asking price is a
young defensive player add a twenty twenty six first round
draft pick. I would assume that would be negotiable, since
you'd have to give up a player, a first round
draft pick, and pay Trey Hendrickson. You'd have to have
a You'd have to have a surplus of players and
or cap space to make all of that work. Hendrickson
at thirty years old. Bengals have offered an average annual
(24:28):
value beyond thirty million per year Hendrickson for his part
seeking roughly thirty five million per year, but once guarantees
beyond the first year, which the Bengals have been unwilling
to give him thus far. Elsewhere around the league, the
Browns signed wide receiver Isaiah Bond. They gave him a
light detect your test. Brown signed Bond with a three year,
(24:52):
three million dollars deal today after it was not charged
as part of a sexual assault investigation on Who's twenty one.
Was expected to be a mi round pick in the
twenty five draft, but went undrafted after being arrested just
two weeks before the draft. On Thursday, Bond was no
bills by a grand jury in Texas, meaning not enough
evidence to charge him, and as part of that diligence,
the team apparently had Bond go through an independent polygraft test.
(25:16):
Per team general manager Andrew Barry. Katleb Williams looked pretty
sharp on his first drive. The Bears offense got mixed
reviews in camp, but it was humming to start Sunday
Nights preseason game against the Bills. Caleb Williams looked pretty comfortable,
throwing pretty good timing five of six ninety seven yards
at a touchdown on the opening drive, second drive was
(25:38):
three and out. Wasn't really as false as the Bears
offense looked crisp when he was on the field, and
that's a promising sign under first year coach Ben Johnson
was expected to get the most out of Williams and
the Bears. And then, in probably the most boring quarterback
battle in the NFL right now, Tyler Shuck got his
first preseason started his NFL career on Sunday. On his
(25:59):
first possession, the Saints faced a third and thirty against
the Jaguars, and that's mostly how the first half win
for Shock, who completed nine to twelve yards sixty six
nine's we pass excuse me sixty six yards in the
first half wasn't terrible, but it wasn't an outing that
would cause Kellen mort immediately named him the Week one starter.
Spencer Ratler meanwhile, when eighteen to twenty four one, one touchdown,
one interception against the Jaggs reserves. Ratler has consistently outplayed
(26:23):
Tyler Shuck throughout the preseason and it is widely expected
to wind up being the starter early on for the
New Orleans Saints. A couple of former Broncos out here
getting work. Michael Ojamoudia, former corner for the Denver Broncos,
back to the Vic Fangio era. It's going to be
(26:45):
headed back to the Dallas Cowboys. Cowboys signing him to
day previously been in the UFL in the Spring League,
trying to get his career back on track. One that
looked promising early with the Broncos and then faltered out
rather quickly. Other former Bronco for Each offensive guard Dalton Reisner,
said in April he expected to sign soon.
Speaker 2 (27:03):
Better late than never.
Speaker 1 (27:04):
I guess Bengals will be hosting Reisner on a free
agent visit tomorrow. Broncos the Vikings had shown interest in
Reisner before training camp began. Reisner, who is thirty, entered
the NFL as a second round pick of the Broncos
back in twenty nineteen, four years in Denver before signing
with the Vikings in twenty twenty three. Started the twenty
four season on injured reserve, but started the final eight games.
(27:26):
He's appeared at eighty seven games with eighty one starts
throughout his career, and he is widely expected to sign
with Cincinnati tomorrow. The Browns might not sign running back
Quin Shawn Juggins until the NFL investigation ends four quarterbacks
on the roster, but the number of running backs is
slightly less, he can still be suspended even though he
won't face criminal charges from recent allegations of domestic violence.
(27:50):
Adam Schefter reported the Browns, in the thirty six overall
pick in the draft, yet to reach an agreement, possibly
won't till the NFL's concluded its internal investigation, which obviously
implies an investigation will happen, which is normal practice even
when criminal charges aren't pursued. The league uses a lower
standard of proof. If the alleged victim cooperates with the investigation,
(28:11):
the league could decide that he violated the Personal Conduct
Policy and then impose a suspension. The other complicating factor
is that Judkins is in line for a fully guaranteed contract,
given that players taken before and after him both got
fully guaranteed deals, so the Browns may want to include
separate protections in the four year contract in light of
the post draft incident. Jud conzolely leverage at this point
(28:33):
would be sent out the season, re enter the draft
if he doesn't sign a contract until next year, and
then any suspension we've served based on games missed, you know,
in this year.
Speaker 2 (28:43):
Or next year.
Speaker 1 (28:44):
That's a question that would have to be you know,
settled as well. Looks like we've got a couple other
signings here that I thought were interesting, and I apologize
if my screen reloaded there, but the Bengals are excuse me.
The Colts rudd are signing Xavian Howard, and the team
(29:08):
announced the signing this afternoon. Howard, who did not play
it all last year after being released by the Dolphins,
but was an All Pro and went to multiple Pro
Bowls during his time in Miami, joins the Colts a
month that has featured plenty of injuries at corner. Third
round pick Justin Wally out for the year with a
torn acl Juju Brentz, Jalen Jones, Kennymore the second Jonathan
(29:30):
Edwards have all been out at various points in camp.
They also announced they placed offensive tackle Blake Friedland on
injured reserve. Friedland factured his leg against the Packers over
the weekend, and linebackers Jacob Phillipson safety Hunter Wooler also
went on injured reserved. All linebackers Jake Chancey and Joseph
Vaughan have been signed to the active roster from the
(29:50):
Dolphins Divine eight. Chanine's gonna be sidelined for a week
with that calf injury. Head coach Mike McDaniel told reporters
in his pressure today that a Chain's unlikely to practice
this week due to calf issue, but noted that getting
held out of practice is simply precautionary. Say quote, all
trainers across the league have horror stories with calves if
you're too aggressive coming back. Daniel told that to David
(30:10):
Farona so the South Florida Sun Sentinel. Ahan rush for
nine at seven yards six touchdowns cast seventy eight passes
five to ninety two yards last year six touchdowns for Miami.
Miami also has former Bronco Mike Boone Ali Gordon. They
drafted Aaron Shampklin and Jalen Wright on its roster running
back and has expressed potentially interest in Brian Robinson from
(30:32):
the Commanders, who has been shopped by the Commanders over
recent weeks. The Cardinals, who lost to the Broncos and
preseason game this past week, have not seen first round
defensive lineman Walter Nolan on the practice field since the
offseason program, and he remains on the active pup lists
(30:52):
and has spent all training camp rehabing. Head coach John
Gannon talking to Tyler Drake of Arizona Sports that he's
doing well and progressing right where he should be progressing.
He hasn't had any I don't want to say the
word setback, but he hasn't said and he had any setbacks.
He's progressing well. Gannon said at the start of training
camp last month he was uncertain whether Nolan would be
returning in time for the season opener. Cardinals placed him
(31:13):
on the reserve pop he will miss at least the
first four games. One of the ones I saw the
one of these stories that normally I wouldn't even pick
up on this because it's kind of a silly quote,
but a Lohance wide receiver Jackson Meeks, who was undrafted,
(31:34):
and it's turned into a strong preseason. He's got eleven catches,
one hundred and seventy six stars, two touchdowns, and he
thinks he's proven where he belongs. He's still fighting for
a roster spot, but he believes it's play in the
preseason has established himself as a legitimate player. Talking to
Joe Sebastianelli of Local four in Detroit, saying, I'm out
here showing I can play football where it's undrafted. First
round sack right, doesn't matter. We put the pads on,
(31:54):
put the helmet on. It's about who's better than who.
I'm a pretty confident person regardless, but making those plays
boost you confidence, gives you the feeling to know I
can do this. I'm up here with the best players
in the world, and I'm one of the best players
in the world. I could actually do this. In Meeksu's
spent three years at Georgia and barely even got on
(32:14):
the field before transferring to Syracuse last year. He did
have a thousand yard receiving season in all acc to
be fair to him, but that went enough to get
him drafted. Out here saying that he's one of the
best players in the world. I don't know, man, it's preseason.
I don't think you've arrived. I don't think you've I mean,
(32:35):
I get having confidence, but I don't think that's something
I'd be out there saying. You know, at any point,
especially to the people that you're up against while you're
fighting for a roster spot, that you're one of the
best players in the world. I just I don't know
(32:57):
that That's not something that I think that I would
be out there trying to.
Speaker 2 (33:02):
Bang the drum for get noticed or get run from.
Speaker 1 (33:05):
At this point, it's providing billets in board material for
other people to tee off on me as I'm still
trying to make the roster. So I you know what,
do I know though, Joe Milton, it's going to get
another chance to make his case for backup quarterback job
in Dallas. Cowboys head coach Brian Shottenheimer set at the
presser today Milton will start the team's preseason finale against
the Falcons. Milton is underwhelmed so far this preseason, spart
(33:29):
conversations about the Cowboys looking for other options by going
nine to eighteen for one hundred and twenty two yards
and an interception against the Ravens. He also took a
sack for a safety in the game. Will Greer would
be the other in house backup option. Shottneiro was asked
why he's not getting a start this month, saying quote,
it's not what we want Joe to win the job
(33:50):
or will lose the job. We need to figure out
more about Joe. So really this is more about figuring
out more about Joe Wilton than it is about Will
Greer or anything else. Given the other possibilities to play
behind Dak Prescott, you need to figure Milton out pretty
quick because if he's not the guy, you need to
find somebody who can be. I referenced it earlier, but
(34:14):
running back Brian Robinson may have played his last game
for the Commanders, Mike Garilfolo reporting that Robinson is not
going to play in Monday Night's preseason game against the Bengals.
This news it comes a day after reports the Commanders
are shopping and in trade talks with him with other teams.
Garifolo reports the decision to have Robinson sit out as
a mutual one as the trade talks play out. Robinson
(34:36):
is listed as the top back on the depth chart,
but surveying trade interest suggests they don't think he's a
vital piece of their puzzle. Austin Eckler obviously still there,
Chris Rodriguez, Jeremy McNichols, but the interesting piece is probably
seventh round pick ja Corey Crosskey Merritt, who his has
been getting rave reviews out of training camp from the commanders,
(34:58):
so something to keep your eye on that. Guys, Listen
to Broncos country tonight right here on k Way
