Speaker 1 (00:00):
What do you make of the deal?
Speaker 2 (00:01):
Steam man, It's just a great deal for a great
young player. And as he was up there talking, you know,
I was just thinking that this is the kind of
player that you can build your.
Speaker 1 (00:14):
Team around, right, you know, just great, great people.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
You know, he wasn't even worried about the contract doing
training camp, he wasn't worried about getting injured. And I
love that attitude that he had and his agent had that, Hey,
We're going to go.
Speaker 1 (00:29):
Out there and work. Don't even worry about this. I
got this. Yep, I got this. You do you, I'll
do my job. I'll do my job. And Nick he
was able to concentrate on.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
What he needed to do up getting better, Uh, coming out,
make sure he's ready to go week one, and uh,
it was just it was a it's a beautiful thing, man,
I love it.
Speaker 1 (00:48):
It is a beautiful thing.
Speaker 3 (00:49):
And our Nick, Nick Ferguson one hundred and twenty million
dollars richer today but still doing just fine.
Speaker 1 (00:59):
They do it more than that. This is what this
game is about for me.
Speaker 4 (01:03):
And I mean there was a lot of talk this offseason.
Speaker 1 (01:08):
When was this deal going to get done?
Speaker 4 (01:10):
How are they going to do it and then when
you look at how the pieces fell in place, Trey
Hendrickson deal was done, Michael Parsons deal was done, Zach
Allen deal was done. Because that was the question, like earlier,
well what is the Broncos gonna do? I mean, they
got to choose between Nick Bonnito and Zach Allen. I'm like, no,
they don't. They can still get both players. There's a
(01:32):
way to kind of work it out.
Speaker 1 (01:33):
And for me, I mean, the.
Speaker 4 (01:36):
Only thing we have in common, me and Nick Barnito
is our names are Nick. So that's the only thing
that we have in common right now. But I'm happy
for the young man because.
Speaker 1 (01:48):
This is what the game is supposed to be about.
Speaker 4 (01:51):
No matter where you drafted, if you go in and
you execute, the team should be willing to pay you.
Speaker 1 (01:57):
Now, I know every team is not willing to do that.
Speaker 4 (01:59):
So if you are a free agent on another team,
to me, you want to look at the Denver Broncos
and say, well, they are signing and grooming their homegrown talent,
and that is vital and that's important because Steve, I
don't know how it was in the locker room when
you play, but in my days with the Denver Broncos.
We would talk to other players during the game during wilmuts,
and the other guys would be like, hey, man, come
(02:21):
join us. So who's your head coach, who's your owner?
Speaker 1 (02:24):
How do you like it?
Speaker 4 (02:25):
Now?
Speaker 1 (02:25):
I'm good on it. If you want to come somewhere,
it's like dogs.
Speaker 4 (02:31):
Man, you got to come here exactly. Coach Shanahan and
training camp.
Speaker 1 (02:35):
Yeah, yeah, so several guys like that.
Speaker 4 (02:39):
Yeah, yeah, Yeah, it's kind of thing because that's what
guys would always ask, what's training camp like for you guys?
Speaker 1 (02:44):
Right?
Speaker 4 (02:45):
And that was always the selling point right there, that
they took care of the veteran guys in training camp.
Speaker 2 (02:51):
Yeah, and I did a fantastic job of at and
Sean Payton does the same thing, you know, making sure
that guys aren't getting too many reps, especially guys uh
you know, the veterans who may have an injury history.
Speaker 1 (03:03):
Making sure that those.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
Guys are fresh for the regular season.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
And that's that's the that's the type of coach Iver won, right.
I mean, if I'm.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
Gonna get hurt, I really get hurt in the regular
season then and the record didn't You don't want to
get hurt.
Speaker 1 (03:15):
But if you could have, it's gonna happen. Get in
the record season.
Speaker 4 (03:18):
But you know what, man, I was a little envious
and jealous of what an upset of those guys who
got bet days because I never got one, got at day.
I never got a bed day, right because I was
one of those players.
Speaker 1 (03:32):
That doesn't seem fair.
Speaker 4 (03:34):
I know, man, But like when I was injured coming
off of my surgery, even then it wasn't.
Speaker 1 (03:41):
A VET day. I can't take it. You can't take
any time off.
Speaker 4 (03:43):
If you're taking time off, they're going like, oh, Nick
didn't really recover, so who's this hold on? Who's this backup?
So there were no bad days and I had to
be out there. But like I said, I'm still jealous.
And dudes who got bet days.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
Was like, well most of the time they were older
than you anyway, Well, well yeah they were.
Speaker 4 (04:04):
But it was just the fact that I felt as
though I had done enough and I accomplished enough, so
I should get a ved date. It was like, well,
what was this the show with Tim Allen when the
guy used to look over the Fance home in so
so I was kind of looking on and then look
at the guys who just kind of don't do it
and around.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
Going kicking the can, going like, man, you can't do it.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
Man, it was me, don't look at somebody else's backyard, Man,
don't do it.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
I mean, those were just silling no Pro Bowls and
no vet days for Nick Ferguson. Man, I was just
talking about ved date you going Pro Bowl. A lot
of listeners to BCT you get that reference.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
But to here, guys's point, you know, this is big
for bringing in free agents and letting them know that, hey,
if you do what you're supposed to do, we're going
to take care of you. Not just the coaching staff,
not just the GM, but the ownership group here in
Denver with the Broncos.
Speaker 1 (04:58):
And I thought Adam.
Speaker 3 (04:59):
Schefter made a really good point on Pat McAfee's show
earlier today. He talks a little bit in the beginning
of this about how the Nick Benito deal came together
and then the importance of that ownership group we have
here in Denver.
Speaker 5 (05:11):
They certainly are one of these picks that's a little
bit trendy and a little bit hot right now. And
I think part of the reason they're hot in trendy
is because they have done such a great job of
keeping their own players. They give Bonito that deal. It
comes out to be the highest paid non quarterback in
Broncos Francis history. They went and paid Courtland Sutton this offseason.
(05:31):
This summer, they went and paid Zach Allen, so they've
kept their core guys that have been important to this team.
I don't know these specific specific incentives, Tom, but I
would just say this, that's a lot. It's seventy million guaranteed,
so you know, read into that whatever you want. Like
(05:51):
I'm sure maybe the deal isn't exactly, but it's going
to be a damn strong deal. And these owners in Denver,
Greg and Carry Penner, they are going to make their
mark and they are going to be around a long
time and they are going to be amongst the best
owners in not only in just football, but in all
those sports, and the pockets that they have enable these
(06:12):
deals to happen. They're building their own training facility, They're
going to get a stadium built there in Denver. These
people are big time, big time, and they're going to
mean a lot to that city in that franchise.
Speaker 3 (06:25):
So we talk about George Peyton and the draft picks
and picking up players and free agency. We talk about
Sean Payton and the culture he's building with the team,
But how important is that for the Denver Broncos franchise
to have the owners like Greg and Carrie Penner.
Speaker 1 (06:39):
It's one hundred percent. It's totally important.
Speaker 2 (06:42):
And the thing that I love most about it is
that it's not just great athletes that they're going after.
Speaker 1 (06:50):
They're going after great people. Right.
Speaker 2 (06:52):
And when you hear man, I haven't heard a selfish
person person.
Speaker 1 (06:57):
Get up to the mic yet, right.
Speaker 2 (06:59):
You know, each person that has spoken, they've talked about teamwork,
they talked about working hard, to talk about sacrificing and that's.
Speaker 1 (07:06):
What you got to build your team off of.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
And I love it, man, because that shows what's important
from the top down, you know. Yeah, that's important to
the ownership that they're bringing in good people, not just
great athletes.
Speaker 1 (07:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (07:24):
Yeah, And to that point, I mean Nick Benino talking
to the media today about how he reacted when he
heard that the deal finally went through a.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
Lot of tears.
Speaker 6 (07:34):
I think I probably ran out of tears to last
a year, just talking with my mom, my dad, my.
Speaker 1 (07:40):
Brother, my agent.
Speaker 6 (07:41):
It was a whole bunch of emotions going through me
this morning.
Speaker 1 (07:45):
And obviously the video I posted is going viral was
like me singing and stuff.
Speaker 6 (07:48):
But I mean it's just been a world win of
emotions today.
Speaker 1 (07:52):
For sure.
Speaker 6 (07:52):
Obviously it's nice to have some money now, but I
mean that's not the end goal for me. I had
goals way bigger than that coming into the league, and
you know, I just kind of continue to keep working
to try to achieve those things and just my collective
goals and the team goals.
Speaker 3 (08:07):
I mean that almost like gives me goosebumps and like
makes me so happy to root for a guy like
Nick Bonito because he's getting his bag, but he's still motivated,
right Nick.
Speaker 4 (08:17):
Yeah, It's just interesting how seventy million dollars will change
a lot, you know, what the amount of tears, you know. Yes,
So there's a movie that James Cagney was in and
it kind of personifies what Nick Benito was expressing and
this level of emotion. I made it right, because these
(08:41):
are the moments that you dream of when you are
a kid and being able to call your family and
make a phone call to tell your parents. Whatever job
that you're working, you can quit. So have you had
anything you want to say to your boss?
Speaker 1 (08:57):
Just go in and see. I got to I'm retired now, Yeah,
you're retired.
Speaker 4 (09:02):
So this is a great look for him, great look
for the Broncos. Like I said, I couldn't be more
happier for the guy because every time I've spoken to him,
you know, he's always cordial, he's always about his business.
And when a guy makes money like this to one
or two things happen. Because I remember Albert Haynesworth. He
was like the first guy several years ago by the
(09:24):
commanders over one hundred million dollars when he came from
the Titans and then he shut it down. What Nick
Benito was talking about is like once you had like
thirteen and a half sacks, expectations go up. Once you
get a bag like this, expectations have to go up.
So people are going to be watching to see how
(09:45):
he plays and if he takes plays off.
Speaker 1 (09:47):
But I'm here to tell you I don't think that's
gonna happen.
Speaker 2 (09:50):
Yeah, No, he needs a do I man, And it's
good to have a piece of mind as an NFL
player that, Okay, I don't have to worry about money anymore.
You know, I don't have to worry about getting injured.
Speaker 1 (10:05):
You were gonna have everybody to get injured. Yeah, because
you got seventy million guaranteed. Not only that, but it's like, yeah,
you're good.
Speaker 2 (10:11):
You know you got you got guaranteed money, you got
money in the bank, So gout there.
Speaker 1 (10:17):
And just let let it rip.
Speaker 2 (10:18):
And I've seen I have seen the option where guys
get paid and then they they're.
Speaker 1 (10:23):
Not as physical as they used to be.
Speaker 3 (10:25):
Brock the game me love you have fun with it.
Speaker 2 (10:33):
Yeah, man, get paid like that.
Speaker 1 (10:35):
Boy, you gotta leave it all on the field.
Speaker 3 (10:38):
I'm expected a big, big year from Nick Benito, especially
after this deal gets done. And this was a guy
who you know, struggled early on. He wasn't seeing the
field much. He was a sack and a half in
his rookie year or something. There's a story about Vance
Joseph that came out today of Nick Benito actually shared
it about how he got called into Vance Joseph's office
and he said, you know, I see you as a
(10:59):
double s's a sat guy. And to have that belief
from your coaching staff when you aren't really producing on
the field yet to now see it come to fruition.
Speaker 1 (11:07):
I mean, that's everything you dream about in the NFL. Yeah, Oklahoma, right, yes, Oklahoma. Yeah.
When he was at Oklahoma, he was he.
Speaker 2 (11:14):
Was a beast game rack and when you when you
see him, you saw the speed that he had coming
off the edge.
Speaker 1 (11:18):
The bend. All of that.
Speaker 2 (11:20):
Now he needed to work on his contain and you know,
the run defense. But he's done that and now man,
he's he's good to go. He's a he's a full
grown man right there in the age.
Speaker 4 (11:36):
He goes back to a coach showing belief in you.
We all have moments where we don't really believe we
are as good as we are. Because you got to
think about it, he came out of Nick Nick, coming
out of Oklahoma, and he was just perceived as being
a third down specialist. Like you said, Grant, that first
(11:58):
year statistically wasn't great because he hadn't development to being
an all around player. He didn't really understand the pro
game the way that he needed to. It's second, I
believe he had eight sacks and then he graduated thirteen
and a half and you got to think, Okay, you said, well,
why did the deal get done? Right?
Speaker 1 (12:14):
Before the season.
Speaker 4 (12:15):
I talked about some of the other guys who got
their deals done.
Speaker 1 (12:18):
But you're playing the Titans.
Speaker 4 (12:20):
Could you imagine a motivated Nick Bonito going into that
game against a rookie quarterback and getting maybe four or
five sacks, and you can think about I mean, George
Faden and the Broncos ownership going like, man, why did
we get this done before the game? Right?
Speaker 1 (12:35):
Right year? Right now?
Speaker 4 (12:39):
SAX costs us more money. So the idea was that
I always felt as though the deal.
Speaker 1 (12:43):
Was going to get done. It was just a matter
of when.
Speaker 4 (12:45):
But a lot of these deals, as we saw, even
with Michael Parson and a lot of these other guys,
it was right before the season was to stop start
because a lot of these teams were thinking like, well,
we kind of bluffed it all this to this point.
Speaker 1 (12:58):
Now we got to make sure that we get job done. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (13:01):
Uh not all great news for the Broncos once again.
Congratulations to Nick Bonino forty years, hundred twenty million. Yes, seed,
I think he's gonna be paying for all the dinners
when they go out for their TV deals. But tough
news today for Malcolm Roach suffered a Grade two calf
strain during practice. Oh and man, according to Mike Cliff,
(13:24):
he's gonna miss potentially.
Speaker 1 (13:25):
Eight three to eight weeks.
Speaker 3 (13:27):
Oh no, I mean that's a that's a big that's
a big blow to this Denver's defensive line.
Speaker 2 (13:31):
Yeah, that is a big blow because that's he's one
of the key pieces to helping stop the run and
putting pressure on the quarterback.
Speaker 1 (13:39):
And I heard it. I didn't even I didn't even
know about that.
Speaker 3 (13:42):
That was right at the end of KOA Sports. Mike
Cliff tweeted that out, and Nick and I were talking
about it when we heard it. Gotta be careful coming
back from an injury like this.
Speaker 1 (13:51):
Yeah, okay.
Speaker 4 (13:52):
So the first thing I thought was like, oh man,
this sucks right before the season and you think, okay,
well it's a cash strain, you think not a big deal.
It's almost like saying turf tow. People don't think turf
torow is a real thing. That sucker hurts. So my
immediate thought.
Speaker 1 (14:06):
Was calf strained.
Speaker 4 (14:07):
Be careful with him, because here's what cap strains eventually
turn into. If you're not careful, Achilles tears. You get that, man,
you're done. So you have to be really careful. Yeah,
with these calfstrains and you're like, well, how is it
that a fine Ton athlete like this would have a
(14:28):
calf strain? Is when you get soft tissue injuries, they
can happen at any time. Either you're not working it
enough or you're over working it right, And that can
happen at any time. And I know there are a
couple of fans who kind of hit me up like, Okay, well,
is this a byproduct of not really participating a lot
in training camp? Now one could possibly say that, but
(14:49):
you never know. It depends on that workload of maybe
that particular leg or in my experience, the opposite leg,
because obviously the opposite leg is there you go.
Speaker 1 (15:00):
So it's one of those things that it's tough but interesting.
You have it at anytime. Yeah, Yeah, soft tissue they
can happened at anytime. Yeah. Five six, six nine zero.
Speaker 3 (15:10):
The common Spirit health text line if you want to
get involved. Going back to Steve talking about how much
he loves the roster for the Denver Broncos and the
kind of guys that they have brought in from the
seven to one nine, Well said, Steve loved the humbleness
of this group, and there's a lot to be said
for that.
Speaker 1 (15:25):
Yeah, no, it is because they're playing for each other.
They're not playing for themselves, and they're not planning.
Speaker 2 (15:32):
I think all of us has a little bit of like, yeah,
I play, if I play well, I'm gonna get paid
well and all that. But that's not their focus. That's
not what they're verbalized. They're verbalizing I'm playing for you, right,
you know, and I'm gonna leave it on the field
for you because I care about you.
Speaker 3 (15:47):
Was that a common thread between all the good teams
that you were on, all the success we were, We.
Speaker 1 (15:52):
Were best friends on it.
Speaker 2 (15:53):
We asked them guys who you know, made it difficult
to be friendly with, but we feel.
Speaker 1 (16:00):
We still we still loved them. You know, every team
has has a couple of guys that are like, man,
come on, why are you going to.
Speaker 7 (16:07):
That's that's something entirely different, sometimes different, But.
Speaker 1 (16:17):
Steve is right.
Speaker 4 (16:18):
You you had guys who are football players, and then
there are guys who played football. They sound the same,
but they're entirely different, right you. You want guys who eat, sleep,
and drink football, and they are committed to it. They're
willing to stay at the facility, watch film, and sometimes
(16:39):
in my experience, Steve, some of those guys have received
a bad rap because some of the teammates think, okay, man,
you doing too much.
Speaker 1 (16:46):
It's like, no, this game, this game means a lot
to me and one of the guys.
Speaker 4 (16:53):
Luckily I was I had an opportunity to be around
doing my coaching internship with the Broncos the year they
went to the Super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (16:58):
Was Peyton Manning was that type of god.
Speaker 2 (17:01):
But all they yes, Peyton hates to lose, yep right, And.
Speaker 4 (17:05):
Some guys don't understand, well, why why.
Speaker 1 (17:07):
Are you so into football that way? Because that's how
you were wired to me. I like guys like that, Yeah,
I mean, how could you not? Speaking of eating and drinking.
Speaker 3 (17:16):
Some big news coming out of in power Field at
Mile High this past week. We're gonna get into that
in a little preview of the Tennessee Titans coming up
next on Broncos Country Night on Kawa A fifty AM,
ninety four to one FM. Because Jalen Carter just ejected
six seconds into the Eagles and Cowboys.
Speaker 1 (17:37):
Game for spitting spitting yes on Dak Prescott.
Speaker 2 (17:42):
That is so ludic, bro, You're on national television.
Speaker 4 (17:47):
We saw to speak about his slow motion.
Speaker 1 (17:50):
Spitz stream right onto dak Press.
Speaker 3 (17:52):
Why would you do that, so you said earlier in
the break that you actually had that happened to you.
Speaker 1 (17:57):
Yeah, a guy that went to you my college. He
was a younger guy. You know, I didn't we didn't
play together, but.
Speaker 2 (18:05):
I forget who we played with, but yeah we after
the play, you know, he got mad. He was all
over my face. You know, I'm talking the noise back
to him in my face. I didn't want to punch
him or anything, so I just said, yeah, you just fit.
Tastes like kool aid.
Speaker 4 (18:26):
Wait wait, see after that point, now you're thinking, okay,
well this dude something roman This.
Speaker 3 (18:30):
Dude, he's like I might have made a mistake.
Speaker 1 (18:36):
The whole thing. Like see that's well.
Speaker 4 (18:37):
As soon as I saw that took me back to
Bill Romanowski speeding on JJ. I remember, yes, I remember,
I remember watching that game, like.
Speaker 1 (18:46):
I'm sorry, what did he just do? Like Romo, Like, come.
Speaker 3 (18:50):
On, man, Bill Romanowski was one of those guys that
you hated playing against but loved.
Speaker 1 (18:54):
When Oh boy, yes, I love having on my team.
Speaker 3 (18:57):
Because you knew he was never going to back down
from a Oh yeah, yeah, he's gonna be right there
in the trenches with you, boy. And he was probably
featured in that documentary about the Cowboys, America's team, Jerry
Jones One. Yeah, he was in that quite a bit
because they were talking about the rivalry with the forty
nine ers they had, and yeah, he talked about he's
(19:19):
still very good at talking smack.
Speaker 1 (19:21):
Oh he is.
Speaker 2 (19:22):
I think he does some brow don't know if he
still does it, but I know he was doing some
broadcasting with the Raiders a while back.
Speaker 3 (19:28):
So yeah, and he was in a couple of movies
back in the day. I remember him in bench Warmers.
I don't know if you ever saw that one or not. Okay,
but yeah, Bill Romanowski love love him on your team, Hate.
Speaker 1 (19:38):
Him, oh my god, though, Man, that's my boy as
he should be, as he should be.
Speaker 3 (19:43):
NFL Season underway, Cowboys driving right down.
Speaker 1 (19:46):
The field and getting seven on the Eagles. It's like
the defense wasn't even there, and it's like they weren't
even there.
Speaker 4 (19:52):
Well, the real you were able to run the ball
the way that you did because Jayleen Card to the guy,
the man in the middle, he's gone.
Speaker 1 (20:01):
So think about this.
Speaker 4 (20:02):
You practiced all week to have him in the game plan, right,
and then all of a sudden the fangio finds out
in the box. Coach, we hate to tell you this,
but Jalen car is unavailable, Like, no, did he get hurt?
Speaker 7 (20:13):
Uh no?
Speaker 1 (20:14):
Did he not make the trip or did he? Is
he going on? It was going on? Oh no, he's
spinning someone's face Fani bows.
Speaker 3 (20:26):
You know.
Speaker 4 (20:29):
But once again, this is why cooler heads have to
prepare and prevail, and individuals are going to try to
poke him production And that was a situation with Dak
Prescott where it's just like, well, what could Dak have
said to him?
Speaker 7 (20:42):
Yeah, to make him smik National TV with a referee
to your right side while they had the game stopped
because the guy got injured on the kickoff for the Eagles.
Speaker 1 (20:53):
All in HD. Literally you got like a seventy years
TV at home, like.
Speaker 2 (21:00):
On eight K you found to think, what's the guy
Trent whatever his name played for the forty nine ers.
Speaker 1 (21:07):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, oh yeah, yeah yeah.
Speaker 2 (21:08):
Remember when he and Richard Sherman got into it and yeah,
and you.
Speaker 1 (21:13):
Can't do that man, change between those two.
Speaker 4 (21:15):
But more or less, it was Trent and what he said, right,
he wrote policy at that time. He rewrote NFL policy
because after he said that and everyone heard it, it
was just like, oh yeah, okay, so referendum to Article
three dash four that if you say these words, yes,
(21:37):
you're not only going to get fined, but he's going
to cause your team as far as yours.
Speaker 1 (21:43):
And once again, it's live TV.
Speaker 4 (21:46):
I mean, you can't get any more reality TV bas
and watching a sporting event.
Speaker 1 (21:50):
So we saw that live and income yeh, they happen here.
Speaker 3 (21:55):
Let's look ahead to the Tennessee Titans game this Sunday. Man,
I'm just so giddy that football is back, just sitting
in here watching it, and you know, so much speculation
in the off season and then it finally it just
feels like it sneaks up on here.
Speaker 1 (22:07):
It's here. We're here right now. We're good.
Speaker 3 (22:09):
What are you expecting to see on Sunday against Tennessee Titans.
Speaker 2 (22:12):
Well, I don't know what to expect out of cam Ward.
I didn't see a time. I watched all of his
plays throughout the season, but it wasn't that many plays
that he played, So it's going to be kind of
a wild card. For us, But I am anticipating a
ton of different looks, a lot of pressure on cam Ward,
(22:33):
and then I'm expecting our office to put points on
the board. I know everybody'd been saying, yeah, we got
run and got to run and got to running. I'm
a fan of running the ball too, But as long
as we get to put points on the.
Speaker 1 (22:44):
Board, we're good.
Speaker 3 (22:46):
It doesn't matter how it comes, don't matter how I
can take it on the board. And if you're watching
the game on Sunday and you think who is number
twelve running the ball?
Speaker 4 (22:52):
R J.
Speaker 3 (22:53):
Harvey changed his jersey number today, thirty seven to twelve.
Speaker 1 (22:57):
Really, I wonder why he switched up at this point.
Don't know.
Speaker 3 (23:00):
A lot of people were giving him flak earlier in
the week about being number thirty seven, But I think
thirty seven is more a running back number than number twelve.
Speaker 4 (23:08):
Why would they give him issues for wearing thirty seven.
Speaker 1 (23:11):
I don't know. Apparently it feels like a fullback number.
Speaker 4 (23:13):
Apparely, whenever these people are who you're talking about, they
were not that busy.
Speaker 1 (23:19):
Well they run in Benjamin all Bright Circle.
Speaker 4 (23:21):
Oh okay, okay, oh, I appreciate that.
Speaker 1 (23:25):
Just creating the hate to create it. That's that's kind of.
Speaker 4 (23:28):
You know, ridiculous, because Bill for ourselves, with the type
of guy that he was, like, man, the number doesn't
make you player makes the number number?
Speaker 1 (23:36):
Right?
Speaker 3 (23:37):
Would we wouldn't hold such numbers and highest team, you know,
number seven in Denver if it wasn't for al John
will Elway played in that.
Speaker 1 (23:44):
Number, right exactly.
Speaker 4 (23:46):
I mean there's a lot of individuals who wear number
seven because of that, right, There's a lot of individuals
who warred twenty seven because you wore twenty seven. And
you see it now where you see guys wearing twenty
four because Champ Bailey ward twenty four. So we're all influenced,
you know, by the game. But for me, I had
(24:06):
number forty in college and I hated it.
Speaker 1 (24:11):
I hated it. You couldn't choose it in college.
Speaker 4 (24:13):
Well, I mean some people had already had numbers already,
so I can come in and hey, man, I'll give
you five dollars if you swap numbers with this.
Speaker 1 (24:21):
This wasn't in the era of the n I L No,
it was the same way. I mean I got the
number that was available twenty ye twenty seven was available, Yeah,
it was kind of cool, yes, but.
Speaker 4 (24:30):
Twenty seven is a whole lot better than forty on
a corner. I mean, you gotta admit you try to
process it now, going like yeah, nikki're.
Speaker 1 (24:37):
Right, I don't know. I mean if you make the number,
do I know? I made the number.
Speaker 4 (24:44):
But when they first rolled it out and it was
like bam, you're like yeah, I'm like, what do you
want me to do with this? Yeah? No, no one
could celebrate celebrating you got number forty.
Speaker 1 (24:57):
But you know what, in all fairness, I was a
walk on. So there it is. That's what did it.
Speaker 2 (25:02):
I guess Archie was looking forward to switching up.
Speaker 3 (25:05):
Yeah, I wonder if number twelve holds any significance to him.
But a good number, a rare number for running backs
in the NFL.
Speaker 1 (25:12):
So maybe he'll get to make his name with it.
We know he's good.
Speaker 4 (25:15):
He did this before the season start because the way
the lead works now, if you change.
Speaker 1 (25:18):
Your number, you had to buy out all these jerseys.
Oohmart move on the rookie contracts, yead buy all them jerseys.
Speaker 4 (25:26):
So luckily he did it right before the red season start.
Speaker 1 (25:30):
Save himself. So that Bundy when we come back. I
want to get Nick's.
Speaker 3 (25:33):
Thoughts on the Tennessee Titans and facing a rookie quarterback
Water and my guy Nick Ferguson Zach Seeker is doing
a great job.
Speaker 1 (25:44):
Behind the glass, Steve.
Speaker 3 (25:46):
Some big news coming out of in power Field at
Mile High this week.
Speaker 1 (25:50):
We've got hot water grill assassinberg. Wow, that's my favorite too.
Is that the one with the onion ring on it?
Is that the one went to kalapenos? That's that's the
one with the kalepenio kalapenos on it.
Speaker 3 (26:01):
Yes, I saw the onion ring one and I was like,
I'm getting me one of those.
Speaker 1 (26:04):
Yeah, it was salted on your rings?
Speaker 4 (26:06):
Or do they like like for crisp crispy crispy, Yes,
jalapenos huh yeah, but they're not too spicy and not
too okay.
Speaker 2 (26:15):
Yeah, and I can't eat eat them super spicy. My
wife she loves them super spicy. But like, no, I've
got mozarella cheese on it. No, yeah, like like some
baked Guda cheese, baked Guda.
Speaker 3 (26:29):
We're trying to make us a forty five dollars.
Speaker 4 (26:31):
Burger or what I'm sorry you said burger man don't
get too fans.
Speaker 1 (26:35):
We're trying to church it up. I'm thinking Sweet Apple
Relish or something like All American Man Football seat water.
We had a football game, Yeah, we had a football game. Yes, yes,
So you say.
Speaker 4 (26:45):
You can have a got Gomet burger at a football game,
can you?
Speaker 1 (26:49):
Yeah, you know, with some bacon on it. Yeah, one
has some past browns, eggs. Oh the breakfast burger right.
Speaker 4 (27:02):
Grow.
Speaker 1 (27:05):
If I would have known, you know what you still know?
Speaker 6 (27:08):
Now?
Speaker 1 (27:09):
I know Steve in here every week. Okay, so we'll
make sure y'all get squared away at the game. Deal.
Speaker 4 (27:17):
You know I'm confining to Ford.
Speaker 1 (27:23):
He's going to deliver. You know what was happening with
that berg.
Speaker 3 (27:29):
Uh Nick before the break there with traffic we teased
that one. Get your thoughts on the Tennessee Titans and
how the specifically from your defensive mindset, how they're going
to attack cam Ward as a rookie quarterback without him
and haven't really can't have any film on him because
he's coming out of college. But he was a number
one pick.
Speaker 1 (27:46):
For a reason. How do you think they attacked him?
Speaker 4 (27:48):
Well, for me, I would go back to watch this
film with the university of Miami. Now, Cam is a
well capable guy because he has arm talent. That's why
we going to meet him the number one draft choice
and be able to spit the ball into tight windows
a lot of velocity.
Speaker 1 (28:03):
But the one thing is he's not a fast quarterback.
Speaker 4 (28:06):
So the ideas if he is hosting up at eight yards,
that's exactly where he's going to be. So that's why
it's all important for John the Cooper Jonah ellis Nick Benito,
a well paid Nick Benito to be able to get
pressure on him. And I'm sure or I'm hoping that
Vance mixed up coverages. Because he is a young guy,
(28:29):
there's certain things that he hasn't really seen on.
Speaker 1 (28:33):
The pro level. They're going to try to prepare him.
Speaker 4 (28:35):
They're gonna try to get him some quick outlet throws
to kind of get him in some of the a rhythm.
But the ideas you're gonna have to play man at
some point because you play zone. To me, if you
play too much of it, you play in his hands.
Now gives the receivers an opportunity to find a soft
pot in his zone and sit down and flash your hands,
and then he put it right on him. So they're
gonna have to force him to play with one hand
(28:57):
tied behind his back. The other thing is a lot
following your front guys to handle the run by themselves. Yeah,
they they're able to do that. The Broncos should win again,
and it's.
Speaker 3 (29:07):
Gonna be a little tougher with Malcolm roach Out as
we talked about earlier. But Steve, you got to think
we've got the secondary to play man. We don't need
we don't need to be playing zone. We can lock
up with these guys. We're talking about how impressive j
Kuwan McMillan has been throughout the last year.
Speaker 1 (29:20):
And this preseason.
Speaker 3 (29:21):
I mean, you got to think that we could lock
these guys down the Tennessee Titans wide receivers.
Speaker 2 (29:25):
Yeah, but when you when you come out and and
show it, it makes it that much easier.
Speaker 1 (29:30):
When when a team knows that you're playing man to man,
then they can scheme around.
Speaker 2 (29:35):
It's it's it's well, they're gonna do play action pass,
don't you. Uh, They're gonna do some hitching goals, They're
gonna do all kinds of things to uh, Because that's
really one of the most difficult defense to run is
man and man defense. Especially when offense knows that you're
in mando man defense, they can max protect the whole
nine yards and then all the pressures on that cornerback
(29:56):
to cover cover this receiver all over the field.
Speaker 1 (29:58):
So uh, we we gotta, we gotta, we gotta mix
it up.
Speaker 2 (30:01):
We we we can't just play man man. We gotta
get some zone in there. See if our d lin
can get home with just just four rushers, and if
they can get home at four, it's gonna be a
long day for cam Ward.
Speaker 3 (30:13):
Well, let's hope it is a long day for cam Ward.
On Sunday as in power Field at Mile High Week
one of the Broncos regular season Steve always goes by
too fast man, thanks for stopping in.
Speaker 1 (30:22):
And that oh man, appreciate you as always. Fun and
go check out at water Grill if you're going to
the game. This all right, ass Berger Burger Baby.
Speaker 3 (30:30):
When we come back, We've got Rick Lewis joining us
for what the Funk? And I've got a very what
the funk question for him. That's next on Broncos Country
to Night on KOA A fifty AM ninety four to
one FM.
