Speaker 1 (00:00):
Heavy day here locally as well as nationally. For those
of you just joining us, three injured in the Evergreen
High School shooting, including the suspected shooter. Three people in
critical condition. Following a shooting at Evergreen High School this afternoon,
Jefferson County authorities said that there were reports of an

(00:20):
active assailant near Evergreen High School. At twelve twenty four pm,
Jeffco Sheriff's Department confirmed in a press conference that three
students were shot at the high school were taken to
the hospital. A spokesman for Common Spirit Anthony Hospital in
Lakewood told our partners at Fox thirty one that they
are in critical condition. The jeff Cow Sheriff's Department said

(00:43):
the reunification point for students with their families at Bergen
Meadow Elementary School that for those of you probably don't
need it.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
This late, but just in case.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
At nineteen twenty eight South High Wan Drive, the county
had sent out an urgent lookout alert to people in
the area saying that there was an active shooter reported
at the school. One of the three students shot was
the alleged shooter. Jefferson Gouty Sheriff's Department has said they
don't believe law enforcement fired any rounds.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
They were re entering the school to learn.

Speaker 1 (01:10):
Whether the shots were fired inside the building or outside
and what kind of weapon was used. Kawa and Fox
thirty one have people on the scene. Will continue to
bring to you updates at the top and bottom of
the hour as we have the latest developments. Also in
the news today, conservative activist Charlie Kirk was fatally shot

(01:35):
while giving a talk at a Utah college. It's unclear
at this point whether the shooter is in costody. They
have said a person of interest is in costody. Utah
Governor Spencer Cox said's a dark day for the state,
a tragic day for the nation, and wanted to be
very clear that he considered it a political assassination. Authorities

(01:56):
have not immediately identified the person in custody, a motive,
or any criminal charges.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
The circumstances.

Speaker 1 (02:02):
The shirting certainly drew national intention attention to an escalating
threat of political violence here in the United States, and
in the last several years, has cut across all ideological spectrums.
The assassination has drawn bipartisan condemnation, but a national reckoning
over ways to prevent political grievances from manifesting his deadly

(02:23):
violence has certainly continued to seem elusive.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
Several videos posted.

Speaker 1 (02:33):
Show the assassination happening in real time, and I would
suggest that if you were squeamish, you should probably.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
Not watch them.

Speaker 1 (02:42):
Whatever you thought of Charlie Kirk and his opinions on things,
one thing I will say from a personal perspective is
that I thought that he was to be commended for
the way that he approached it in an open forum. Kirk,
you know, as an entertainer, could come across a small
get in the ways that he defended his points, but

(03:02):
certainly didn't back down from the open forum or the debate,
which I feel like was what we want to exemplify.
I feel like we need more of that in an
attempt to ratchet down the rhetoric in this country. Open forum,
open debate, open exchange of ideas. At the end of

(03:23):
the day, we are all Americans. There isn't a left
or a right, or a red or a blue. We
are all Americans, and we want America to prosper, and
we want people to be free and safe and happy.
We want children to be able to attend schools, safely.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
We want to be.

Speaker 1 (03:39):
Able to go to our jobs or get on a
mass transit situation without the fear of our life being.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
Taken into our hand at that point.

Speaker 1 (03:50):
For whatever you think of someone else's opinion, at no point,
for that opinion do they deserve to be gunned down.
And who are we to be the arbiter of who
lives and who dies because of their opinion. I'm deeply saddened,
and my thoughts are with the family of Charlie Kirk,

(04:11):
a widow, too young daughters who will never see their
father again. And I don't know the motives at this
point behind whoever shot him. That there's certainly things that
look a certain way, but we don't have that information yet.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
We don't know what the.

Speaker 1 (04:31):
Motivation was yet. I'm certainly not going to swing to
the other side of that.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
And there was.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
An absolutely ridiculous comment made from MSNBC today where one
of their persons, one of their commentators, suggested, maybe it
was somebody a supporter firing a gun and celebration.

Speaker 2 (04:53):
What are we doing? What's the saying?

Speaker 1 (04:57):
It's better to be thought a fool and keep silent
than to open your mouth and remove all doubt, don't
speculate on things you don't know about, and certainly don't
posit the ridiculous into a situation that is tragic. I'm
just frustrated. I don't understand how we got here. Every

(05:23):
day you see the latest ratcheted up attack from one
side lobbing bombs at the other. It's your fault because
your language is this way. No, it's your fault because
your language is this way. No, it's both your faults
that the language is this way. Is there any point
where we can look to stop a signing blame and

(05:47):
start solving the problem. Maybe it takes a smarter or
a keener mind than mine. What is the solution here?
But I feel like too often sit in front of
this microphone and I say, I don't have an answer.
Does someone have an answer? Can someone grab the mantle
of leadership by the reins and say, here's an idea

(06:10):
on how we can stop this and how we can
solve it. Maybe it takes a keener mind than mine.
I don't know, but I'm tired of being heartbroken for someone.
I'm tired of being heartbroken for us. I'm tired of
being heartbroken for parents who have to worry and the

(06:31):
stress and the anxiety they have of just sending their
children to school every day. I'm tired of being angered
and outraged by somebody who I seventy percent of the
time disagreed with.

Speaker 2 (06:47):
And yet should never have to suffer.

Speaker 1 (06:50):
Losing their life simply because they have opinions that are
different than mine. You know, what I should be doing
is trying to convince that person that my opinions are correct.
We call ourselves civilized? Do we say we have a
civilized society?

Speaker 2 (07:08):
And yet at the end of the day, are we
any better than the animals?

Speaker 1 (07:21):
Killing someone because you disagree with them is certainly not
civilized behavior. Murdering someone because you disagree with them is
not the sign of a enlightened society. And it's not

(07:47):
like this is common to one side or the other,
which I oh. It makes me grind my teeth seeing
stupidity like that. We had states senators in Minnesota that
were executed, conservative commentators in Utah.

Speaker 2 (08:09):
Where's the dignity and risk?

Speaker 1 (08:10):
Was?

Speaker 2 (08:10):
Was? I?

Speaker 1 (08:11):
Was I living under an illusion in the earlier parts
of my life when it felt like that we had
the dignity.

Speaker 2 (08:17):
And the respect for each other was it all was?

Speaker 1 (08:24):
It was that all a mirage and that I was
just naive and and and at that point and in
capturing that at that point in time, I was sitting
there when when all of this stuff broke, doing some
television for a non sports show.

Speaker 2 (08:44):
That I do, uh, with a couple of friends.

Speaker 1 (08:46):
Will he be people may know as a personality from
around town Leyland Conway, a political person, uh, a commentator
and person from around town. And and we were just
I floored, And I don't know what to do about it.

(09:11):
On the one hand, I sit here and I say, okay, well,
you know the first thing people are going to suggest
is we take away the tools to be able to
do this.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
But does that solve the problem. It certainly hasn't seemed to.

Speaker 1 (09:27):
As we made the purchase of firearms more and more difficult,
it certainly hasn't seemed to stem the flow of violence.

Speaker 2 (09:35):
Mass shootings are a common occurrence.

Speaker 1 (09:40):
The flip side of that coin arm every one, I'm
not sure that's marginally better. I'm never going to tell
somebody what they can or cannot do to defend themselves
of their families. But from a bird's eye view, the
idea of every untrained person out there with a firearm
doesn't exactly instill me with a lot of confident either.

(10:06):
What can we do to get people to the table
to have the discussions that we need to have so
that things don't boil to this point to begin with,
What are.

Speaker 2 (10:18):
We doing to our youth.

Speaker 1 (10:21):
That they feel like shooting their classmates and then themselves?

Speaker 2 (10:27):
Is the idea?

Speaker 1 (10:31):
Is it the very nature and the very fabric of
the way that we live in our own Grant Smith,
who by the way, is producing back there tonight, has
pointed out to me on multiple occasions, and it was
a point that I believe a guest on his podcast
made about the almost fictional nature of the way that

(10:55):
we live now, and then everything is funneled through.

Speaker 2 (11:01):
Social media.

Speaker 1 (11:02):
How viral you go, how much acknowledgment you get, Is
this a portion of that people think they're going to
go viral from that before they go and that's the endgame.
The comment I'm referring to, which I believe again I
heard on the Taking for Granted podcast, was someone saying
that the difference between online life and real life is

(11:23):
so vast you can't even comprehend it. The idea that
if you've got a hundred likes on a post, maybe
you think that post underperformed. And yet if a hundred
people came up to you in a day, hey brother,
how you doing, you would be overwhelmed.

Speaker 2 (11:40):
And that delineates.

Speaker 1 (11:41):
The fictional nature of social media, and yet we treat
it as almost all important. How many shows across every
spectrum er genre are almost programmed by what is popular

(12:02):
on social media. Whole segments are built around what's trending.
Is this in some way incentivizing this?

Speaker 3 (12:22):
Five?

Speaker 1 (12:22):
Six sixty nine zero's the text line. A lot of
great text coming in there. Seven too, oh says it
is social media. All this is because social media, all
the hate, the terrible discourse, the divide, social media algorithms

(12:43):
shoveling hate to its users to keep them engaged. Yeah,
I don't know. I don't have the solution. I don't
have the answers, and I wish that I did. I
don't know where to start with that, and I wish
that I did. And I think that's the frustration.

Speaker 2 (13:04):
That I feel.

Speaker 1 (13:05):
And it's a sense of helplessness from the people that
I talk to, in the sense that you don't know
where to start with this. It seems like an overwhelming
problem that doesn't have a starting line to even begin
to run the race to fix it.

Speaker 2 (13:22):
I'm willing to listen to all solutions.

Speaker 1 (13:24):
I'm willing to listen to anybody if they've got something
that solves this problem. Too many people are losing their
lives for reasons that they absolutely do not need to.

(13:44):
There is a frustration and a sense of helplessness that
seems almost pervasive, because when I see comments like, well,
what are you going to do? That's the problem. We
don't know what we're going to do. That speaks to
a larger problem. I'm all about solutions. My entire life

(14:17):
has been spent in the pursuit of being a man
of action and not just a man of talk.

Speaker 2 (14:25):
I pride myself on being able to.

Speaker 1 (14:27):
Put my money where my mouth is on things, both
literally and figuratively. And I just I don't know, I
don't I don't know. Is it is it social media?

(14:47):
Is it our catering to the whims of the masses
that we that wed the anonymous out there are craving,
our need for that dopamine hit? Is that part of
it is that all of it is that we don't
listen enough, and that we talk too much. And I
realize the certain irity of me shouting through a microphone
right now and not listening to anyone. I'm willing to listen.

(15:14):
I'm very much willing to listen. I understand that it
may come across at this moment that I'm preaching, but
it's my coping mechanism. I would sit here and I
would say, in honor of the departed Charlie Kirk from today.

Speaker 2 (15:33):
All right, sit down, let's talk about it. Proved me wrong.
I don't know where to start. Enlighten me.

Speaker 1 (15:51):
How do we defend our children and keep them safe
in schools? Already, the new school that are being built
are resemble nothing like the school that I went to
when I when I when I was in school.

Speaker 2 (16:07):
They're more akin to fortresses.

Speaker 3 (16:08):
Now.

Speaker 1 (16:14):
I remarked on a school that was built fairly recently
that I went to a couple of years ago, and
how this school resembled more of a prison than it
did a lot of ways than it did a school.
What is the price that we have to pay to

(16:35):
keep our children safe and secure?

Speaker 2 (16:36):
How do we do it? Somebody tell me.

Speaker 1 (16:42):
You will earn yourself a champion who will if we
find a solution that works, you will earn yourself a
champion who will work tirelessly night and day and put
his money where his mouth is to advance your cause.
If you can find me that solution. I appreciate you
guys taking the time.

Speaker 2 (17:02):
To listen to this. We got romy being we come
back to Froncos Country tonight.

Speaker 1 (17:07):
Got another hour before we give way to Colorado Rocky's Baseball.

Speaker 2 (17:12):
Obviously, you guys.

Speaker 1 (17:13):
Been paying attention to the news of the day the
KWA News department as well as our partners at Fox
thirty one. We'll continue to keep you up to date
on the latest with the Evergreen High School shooting as
well as the political assassination of Charlie Kirk. And we
appreciate you guys being along with us, and especially those
of you who texted the nice things that you did
for the last segment. I certainly appreciate you With that,

(17:35):
We're going to take a bit of a pivot here
and go out to the KA comments for the hotline
and bring on our friend from CBS, romy Bean Romey.

Speaker 2 (17:40):
How you doing today?

Speaker 3 (17:43):
Heavy day, but you know what, glad to be here
with you. You know, talking to the sports get their
mind off it.

Speaker 2 (17:48):
Yeah, and that's that's what I'm hoping here.

Speaker 1 (17:50):
I hope that we can all maybe come together and
talk a little sports here for a little bit and
kind of take our minds off the heaviness that has
been pervasive throughout the day.

Speaker 2 (18:00):
As we look forward to Let's start with CEU.

Speaker 1 (18:03):
I guess there's been some reports out there that Ryan
Stobb could potentially start this weekend. What do you think
about that and what do you think so use chances
are with a quarterback nobody had factored into the quarterback
conversation just a few weeks ago.

Speaker 3 (18:18):
Yeah, you know, I think Stob's going to start. That's obviously,
you know, not official. Coach Prime said that he has
his quarterback. He's made the decision. That's what he told
me on the show. But he's not going to tell
us who. That is. Part of that is you know
some gamesmanships, so you know, I don't want to reveal
your cards, and you know, part of that is who knows.
Maybe it's still weighing it out, but I think he

(18:38):
knows who it is. My personal opinion, I think that's
going to be Ryan Stobb from what we saw, and
I just think the biggest thing for me Ben was
was looking at how the kind of the juice that
he brought on the field when he was out there.
It was just it was different. The players, the reaction
on the sidelines. I'm up there like a ninety year
old of my binoculars, you know, in the press box,

(18:59):
but I'm watching the reaction on the sideline, and it's
the whole team was playing for this kid. So you
can't lie to the players, you know this right, This
kid was ready. I think the most impressive thing is
that he was told on Friday that he was going
to play and he was ready by Saturday. You know,
like there's the cliche, you know, I stayed ready. I
stayed ready. But how do you stay ready when you

(19:20):
sit behind for Shador for two years? Two quarterbacks come in,
your opportunity may never come. And he really did that.
He lived up to the cliche and stayed ready. Really impressive.
I think he earned himself another opportunity. That being said,
you know, this quarterback battle, who knows what it's going
to look like as the season goes on. But for me,
he seemed the most comfortable audibling a little bit, you know,

(19:41):
taking not taking another patroom or bubble screen and saying, oh,
you know what, I'm going to tell my teammate to
run the go route and throw a long bomb. And
I think he just feels more comfortable in that offense
because he's been in it, and I think he watched
how Shador operated. So I think it's a good opportunity
for him and good for this team right now to
have a quarterback.

Speaker 4 (19:59):
Who seems a a little bit more comfortable, I think
running that offense and making maybe making some changes what
he sees fit, because that offense does better when that happens.

Speaker 2 (20:10):
That I think we agree on.

Speaker 1 (20:12):
Talking Without Roby Bean from CBS, let's pivot gears a
little bit to a place where quarterback competition was already decided,
and that's where the Broncos are headed this weekend, headed Indianapolis,
where Daniel Jones has taken the reins in the Indiapolis
Colts pulled off probably the surprise of Week one in
their beatdown of the Miami Dolphins. Obviously, they're going to
come into this game with some injuries at the corner position,

(20:33):
but this team looks like they have finally recognized whatever
Shane Steichen's vision is is this.

Speaker 2 (20:42):
A team that could give the Broncos problems.

Speaker 1 (20:44):
I mean, you look back to last year and they
had the game I don't want to say one, but
at least well in hand up until Jonathan Taylor let
go of that football right as he was crossing the
goal line and the Broncos seemed to capture momentum. How
do we see this game playing out relative to that one.

Speaker 3 (20:58):
I think this is such an interesting matchups, Like I
would love to know what the line was last week
compared to what it is now. I don't know what
it was last week, but I think that there's so
many when I look at that Colts game. First of all,
I didn't expect the Dolphins to be as terrible as
they are. I think the Dolphins made some really costly
mistakes and some really bad decisions that helped the Colts.

(21:19):
But I think that you know, Daniel Jones is Shane Sike,
and he's in a good spot with him as his coach,
and he's there's a lot of playmakers on that offense
on that Colts team, and that he kind of thought, Oh,
Daniel Jones, Okay, who knows when he plays the Dolphins.
I guess he plays like Peyton Manning. I don't think
we're going to see such a fantastic performance again against

(21:41):
the Denver. It's so much confidence in Denver defense. I
think this is going to be a great matchup of
fantastic matchup really against him, but a lot of playmakers
on this team all over the place. Jonathan Taylor when
he's healthy is I mean, truly top tier. But I
think that and I've kind of maintained this. I've been
like stamping and all miss statement then from before the

(22:02):
season and as we go into it that I think
the Broncos defense is going to keep Denver in just
about every game this season, and it becomes what do
we see offensively and just do the offense get into
a little bit more of a rhythm. Obviously it was
a very clunky start. Are they going to commit to
running the ball more? Who knows? But the big thing
is does Denver's offense take a step and does Bonicks

(22:23):
take a step? And three turnovers? I don't really see
bow having another three turnover day. That was what I've
been calling uncharacteristic. So again, my faith just lies in
Denver's defense, and I need to see progress from Denver's
offense from last week to this week, and I think
if they do that, they should be able to win
this game.

Speaker 2 (22:41):
Ted to agree to talk with romy Bean from CBS.

Speaker 1 (22:44):
As we look back at the game from last week
against the Titans, So what do we attribute to the
clunkiness of the offense? Is it is it early season
and they're just getting their feet wet. Is it another
lack of commitment to the run game which seemed to
be effective.

Speaker 2 (22:58):
Is this a sophomore slump?

Speaker 1 (23:01):
Is it just a Titans defense that was better maybe
than we thought.

Speaker 2 (23:04):
It was some combination of all the above.

Speaker 3 (23:07):
Yeah, I do think that Titans front was better than
we were giving it credit for. Maybe a little combination
of all the above, like you said, and with the
run game got going late, but something that you really
just want to see it getting going earlier and a
little bit more of a commitment and honestly, maybe not
such a heavy rotation you're rotating. Really three guys like
Tyler Bade was out there a lot more than I

(23:27):
think most people expected. So with the run game, it's
such a rhythm thing, you know, I'd like to see
him kind of leave one guy out there a little
bit longer, maybe two guys maybe not rotating in and out.
We know, you know, we know Sean really loves changing
up the personnel, and everybody has kind of said that
wasn't an issue, but maybe slow that down a little bit.

(23:49):
You know, realistically, we didn't see that much from the
Broncos offense in the preseason and in training camp for
all purposes, that looked similar to what we saw in
week one. So I think if I'm going to attribute
it right now to a slow start, I don't think
both in a sophomore slump just yet. It's been one game.
I don't want to jump, you know, it feels like

(24:10):
a little bit of a jump. But I feel like
this offense really then this was similar to what we
saw I feel like in training him. So this is
to me, how how are they going to build week
by week? I would like to see a firmer commitment
to the run, But to be honest, I don't know
we're ever going to get that.

Speaker 1 (24:27):
With Robby Van from CBS, Robby last one from me here,
Evan Ingram obviously a little dinged up in that games
that limited this week. How big a loss would that
be for this offense if he's unable to go.

Speaker 3 (24:40):
You know, we England was less impactful than I thought
he was going to be in week one. I mean
I drafted him on my fantasy game. I got high
hopes for this guy. But I think that nonetheless him
and bo getting that chemistry, it's important that he is
out there and that he is there. We don't lose
him for a couple of games and then you have
to go back and kind of start building that chemistry

(25:01):
and building that game plan again. Obviously you saw with
Looe and Corlin how it's just there right, that's his trustee,
security blanket, all the affirmation you needed of why they
needed to resign Court to the deal that he did.
But with Evan, I think that they need more time together.
They need a lot more time together, and so hopefully
he is healthy so that they can continue that and
that chemistry can continue building.

Speaker 1 (25:23):
Robbie, I appreciate it as always. I know what's been
a heavy day. I hope you and yours stay safe
out there. LOOK forward to talking to you against soon.

Speaker 3 (25:31):
Same to you, my friend. Appreciate you absolutely.

Speaker 2 (25:33):
Take care, Robby Bean five six sixty nine Heroes.

Speaker 1 (25:37):
The text line appreciate everybody over at the cant We
News department headed up there by Rob Dawson.

Speaker 2 (25:44):
All the work that.

Speaker 1 (25:44):
They've done today with the high school shooting over there
and Evergreen and also the Charlie Kirk shooting. It's I
think those guys go underappreciated a lot, you guys listening
at home here, the effortless of the news breaks that
they do and don't realize a lot of the hard
work that they put in behind the scenes getting that

(26:06):
information and making sure they have accurate, up to date
information for you guys during the breaks. And I just
want to tip my cap to the work that they
do because I see them hustling behind the scenes. I
see the hustle the work they put in that you
guys don't, and so I wanted to shout them out.
Difficult enough to try to bring you the latest breaking

(26:27):
news on a single story, much less when two break
at the same time, and trying to divide your time
and your effort into making sure that you're getting all
the latest up to the second information as well as
verifying its authenticity and accuracy. And that's something that quite
a lot of alleged news places out there. Don't do

(26:50):
as much of these days trying to be as accurate
as possible or sacrificing that accuracy for speed and getting
things out. And I think we hear at KOA do
a great job of both trying to make sure that
we get it to you as quickly as possible, but
making sure that it's accurate before doing so. That's that's

(27:12):
part of the legacy that KA News has had will
continue to have. Part of that's left behind by the
recently retired Kathy Walker and carried on by the Rob
Dustin runs a news department now and I'm proud to
be a part of a station that has that sort
of integrity and ethos to it.

Speaker 2 (27:32):
Five six six nine.

Speaker 1 (27:33):
Zero is the text line you guys want to get
involved in the conversation. I appreciate quite a few kind words.
I can't respond to all of you. I apologize, but
dozens and dozens of you dating back to the first
segment that we did on this show, I want to
thank romy Bean for taking time out of a heavy

(27:54):
and busy day for joining us in the last segment.

Speaker 2 (27:57):
You missed any part of that, you go to Broncos
Country Night dot Com.

Speaker 1 (27:59):
Slash Podcast Moach podcast, Appleite in Spotify, the free and
redesigned iHeartRadio app Nail did where you used to be
able to get the taken It for Granted podcast. Maybe
we can shake him into doing another episode at some
point soon we'll see it's like this was like trying
to get them to do the movie for Firefly after
they canceled Serenity. We got a Parker Gabriel coming up

(28:21):
in the next segment. Get a chance to kind of
deep dive with him. Parker was, of course the person
who broke Yesterday the Latest and had an exclusive with
the the Waltz the Penners about the stadium. We'll get
a chance to talk to him about that that scoop,
as well as some of the other things going on

(28:42):
with the Broncos. Of course, Havevin Ingram limited participant to
