Speaker 1 (00:00):
Like I said on Sunday, Mayor Johnson.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
Said he might be there, and if you've heard our advertising,
we might have interesting clientele.
Speaker 1 (00:10):
Down there. It's just burned down. You definitely want to
be there.
Speaker 3 (00:13):
Come on, come on?
Speaker 2 (00:14):
That is right five six six time Zeros text line
eight one six says, my fear is that Sean Payton
won't run the ball and has has bow throw the
ball forty plus times. I want to see early methodical
drives that demoralize the Jets and take any semblance of
hope away from that robe wearing running back costplaying as
a quarterback. That's right?
Speaker 3 (00:35):
Are you sure that you did not takes that in
during right now?
Speaker 1 (00:39):
That's the eight one six area code, which I believe
is Kansas City.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
That sounds though, Wait where are you from? What was
your childhood football team you wear a big fan of
growing up then.
Speaker 2 (00:51):
The New York New Jersey Knights of the World League.
Speaker 1 (00:56):
Sure the rain Fire?
Speaker 2 (00:57):
Sure?
Speaker 1 (01:00):
Yes, well man, do you remember World League Football?
Speaker 3 (01:03):
Do you remember?
Speaker 4 (01:04):
That?
Speaker 2 (01:04):
Was like a real brief I found real quick. I
don't wanted to get into this, but like I found
what I was the last time I was moving. I
found some old football cards that I used to have
for back in the day, and I had some World
League Football cards in there.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
Yes, you do know that I played for the Ryan Fire.
Speaker 2 (01:20):
Yeah that's why I mentioned the right Fire, But yeah,
I had World League Football cards.
Speaker 1 (01:24):
I might have a Nick Ferguson Ryan Fire card.
Speaker 5 (01:27):
Well okay at that time, to be totally honest, called
in and for Europe at the time. Yeah, so a
little different, similar but just a little different in certain ways.
Speaker 3 (01:40):
And you might have a Nick Ferguson card.
Speaker 1 (01:42):
Might there's a possible I might have that, because I
would definite that I would put it up and put
that up because that that's the cool like nobody else
is gonna.
Speaker 5 (01:50):
I do agree with the Texter that Sean Payne needs
to do what he did starting off the game against
the Bengals, right off the game against the Eagles, starting
to run the ball yep, because now you get the.
Speaker 3 (02:04):
Defense homed in.
Speaker 5 (02:06):
Okay, well we're going to have to stop the Broncos
from a run standpoint, and now the play pass is available,
and once again, this is where you could take advantage
of everything that Aaron Glenn has preached this week about
punching the ball out, being aggressive on off your routes,
because you already know Sauce Gardner has had a number
(02:26):
of penalties called on him because of his grabbing. Now
he seems to think that he's being treated unfairly because
the Jets team is losing football games.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
But apparently he's not watching his own tape.
Speaker 2 (02:40):
Yeah, yeah, that was Sauce is a little grabby, just saying,
you know, he'd be getting salty in the sauce about
about his own grabbing. I would double move him. You
could say, well, yeah, obviously, I mean that's what you do.
Set up to have him keep continuing to get flag.
Speaker 3 (02:52):
I will say this.
Speaker 1 (02:53):
Pastway, and you were there when I said it.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
We went to the half down seventeen to three, and
I was like, oh, no, Sean Payton has been running
the football. It's been effective. It's about to break. I
was like, man, you know what's gonna happen. He's gonna
go in there and have You're gonna come out. Bo's
gonna wind this game up with sixty passing attempts and
they're gonna abandon the thing that But to Sean Payon's credit,
he did't. Sean Payton ran the football even down two
scores in that game. You can win football games. I
(03:18):
hate watching offensive coordinators abandon the run and become one dimensional.
They get down two scores, You got plenty of time left,
you can still run the ball.
Speaker 5 (03:27):
How much of that do you think that it is
Coach Payton being playing cautious or he's playing to the
fact of he's a play caller and he is calling
the game because like he is a former quarterback.
Speaker 1 (03:40):
I think part of it was confidence in the defense.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
You can run the ball because you're not really worried
about Philly coming out and scoring a whole bunch more.
We got a good defense, I can still run the
ball and we can make up ground here. We don't
have to become one dimensional. Let them tee off on
bo Nicks.
Speaker 5 (03:56):
Is there something to be said about the fact that
they're several individuals who work in the Jets organization who
won with Aaron Glenn he knows Sean Payton from his
days playing in New Orleans and coaching in New Orleans,
and Darren Moogie, you know, being the GM and Chris
Banjo being the special teams coach. Is there something to
say that that could play a role in Sunday's outcome
(04:19):
or it's like, you know what, that's just ward.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
Under the bridge. I don't think.
Speaker 2 (04:22):
I'm not sure there's anything there to get revenge on.
Surely didn't part with Sean Payton on bad terms, you know,
and and and as far as that goes, And Chris Banjo, I.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
Don't think he parted from Denver on horrible terms.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
Uh, Darren Mugie took a promotion, so you know, Banjo
would be the one if there were, if any of them,
that would have the chip.
Speaker 5 (04:45):
Well well, not not to say that the fact that
that it's revenge, but the fact of.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
Knowing dare there's a good side. I don't think the
Darren Mugie thing necessary. I mean he would know personnel,
large personnel, a little bit that can help out. Yeah, yeah,
well guy can and can't do right, And so you
try to tailor something to the strengths of this.
Speaker 5 (05:04):
You see when Aaron glenn And said, okay, well this
guy went out and we were scouting him. He came
out of college and even scouting him as a pro.
These are the things that he did well. Here's some
of the things that he did not do well. I
would like to think that you can use every little
more suit to your advantage.
Speaker 2 (05:19):
I think you would certainly try. A smart smart organization
would certainly do that. Chris Banjo would have a more
intimate knowledge, having been down there with.
Speaker 1 (05:26):
Some of those guys hands on a little.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
It would be less about the college scouting and more
about the day to day.
Speaker 3 (05:31):
I bet I'm not a betting man, but I will
just say this.
Speaker 5 (05:36):
I'm sure Chris Benjo has coached up his team and
preached to the Special Teams unit about how well he
wants them to go out and play against the Broncos
as smart physical create some turnovers.
Speaker 3 (05:50):
Because once again, of.
Speaker 5 (05:52):
All the coaches, he may have an extra grind when
it comes to him.
Speaker 3 (05:58):
Now being with the New York Jets.
Speaker 1 (06:00):
That could be one. We'll have to call it deliverance
because Banjo is the only thing you're gonna remember. I
got a head shaking.
Speaker 5 (06:06):
I didn't.
Speaker 1 (06:08):
From from Zack Segars.
Speaker 3 (06:10):
You're surprised that even if young singers.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
Actually knew that rent that reference, right, I'm sitting there like, oh,
this one's gonna said.
Speaker 1 (06:16):
They're just looking at me. No, just shaking the head now, yeah, I.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
I I mean there is a path to I suppose
the Jets winning here, but that path begins with them
winning a turnover battle, something they haven't done. Although we
haven't appreciably been turning people over. We have only one
interception on the year, is exact. Just shut them down. Yeah,
you know, I I if if New York is gonna win,
(06:42):
I'm gonn play out this hype thingle I do not
think the Jets are gonna win. Broncos' role as a
matter of fact, on our I'll spoil the surprise and
a way, Rod will put the graphic up on Sunday.
But uh, I picked the Broncos like thirty to thirteen.
I expect the Broncos to roll in this one. So
we'll see, you know, we'll see how that shakes out.
But if I put on the Devil's advocate hat here
(07:03):
for a minute, I'll be the advocados diabalai, right, I
will I will sit here. Yeah, we have to get
a little Latin in. I will sit here and see
how could I envision the Jets winning? Right, You've got
to run the football. You got the effective running the football.
You got to pick and choose your spots on when
you throw, and you've got to you've got to win
the turnover battle. If you could do those things, you
could at least put yourself in position to be able
(07:24):
to do that. Also, fourth and two or less, we're
going for it. If we're the Jets, fourth and two
or less, we are going for it all.
Speaker 5 (07:33):
It's interesting because when we think about the career of
Sean Payton being somewhat of a riverboat gambler, that's that
hasn't been who he is.
Speaker 3 (07:42):
But we've seen one of the coaches who coaching in
the league.
Speaker 5 (07:46):
Who's doing a fantastic job and has done a fantastic
job since he came in the in the league, and
that's Dan Campbell. He is the fourth and one champion.
It's almost like they should just rename it when you
if you don't been going for anymore, if we're cambelling,
and you could even wrap a soup add into this and.
Speaker 1 (08:03):
Get the money out of it because the NFL, we
don't have to do anything.
Speaker 4 (08:06):
The trucky Cambell suit. I'm just saying yes because Campbell's
sitting there. You know, what, do you went for dinner?
We're going for it. Put the put the beef stew on.
That's exactly what it seems.
Speaker 1 (08:18):
Not saying I'm a marketing genius. I'm not not saying
it right, but I'm not saying.
Speaker 3 (08:22):
And what we're seeing Sean Payton change a little?
Speaker 5 (08:27):
Are we seeing the evolution of Sean Payton. I know
he's been in the game for a long time and
he's been coined a genius. But are we seeing him
take that to a whole different level with him being
now more open to do things that he wouldn't have
done five ten years ago.
Speaker 1 (08:46):
Oh, to a degree. I have not seen him commit
to the run the way he did against Philly since
since Taysom Hill was his quarterback. The last time he
really committed it.
Speaker 2 (08:59):
I mean, okay, at that time, like design quarterback run, right,
I mean you remember the kentle hitting the game or
all that. Yeah, I haven't seen Sean Payton commit to
the run like that. I think He's the closest you
would get in his Denver tenure, I think would have
been that Browns game. Remember they were running trap game
and they were You just couldn't think Browns couldn't stop it.
(09:22):
That was the last time I think I've seen that
kind of a commitment to the ground game out of
Sean Payton.
Speaker 5 (09:27):
Because of what we're seeing over the past couple of weeks,
somewhat of a change or revamped, remixed type of remixed edition,
you know, uh for Sean Payton, and they just said
the Broncos get to the playoffs, that couple with the
(09:49):
idea of him sto changing, would that put him in
a running for I guess what.
Speaker 1 (09:54):
Is the Coach of the year coach? I think the
Broncos got to go far in the playoffs for that.
Speaker 2 (09:59):
Typically Coach the Year winds up going to a coach
that takes a team that you did not expect to
win that many games. So I think Shane Steichen, if
the Colts continue to sinue what they're doing, probably in
line for that Coach of the year. You know, it's
a team that takes a team well above the win
total you thought and make some noise in the playoffs.
But a lot of people were picking the Broncos to,
you know, to go deep in the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (10:19):
So in order to.
Speaker 2 (10:20):
Win Coach of the Year usually you have to be
above expectation, right, and so I don't know how to
the Broncos exceed expectation. You don't go to the Super Bowl,
like at that point that I think Sean Payton's in
the running. I don't even think if they make the
AFC Championship, I'm still not sure he would get the
award because how far over expectation.
Speaker 3 (10:35):
I don't think that.
Speaker 5 (10:36):
I mean, okay, that's great of the Broncos words to
get that far. Yeah, but I think he still would
be in the running based on effect of the playoff drought.
You should be in the running, shouldn't be It's nice season,
then you get to the playoffs last year for the
first time in nine seasons, and then you lose to Buffalo.
Now to get back that would show that the team
is now truly change.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
I would say if.
Speaker 2 (10:57):
They'd beaten Buffalo last year, he would have won it
last year. And I'm not saying he doesn't deserve it.
I'm just saying I know how the voters are, and
usually what they vote for is that coach.
Speaker 1 (11:05):
It got a team way above usually, So I love it.
Speaker 3 (11:08):
Okay.
Speaker 5 (11:08):
So the preseason push in hype through other individuals of
national media, right, did they ruin that opportunity for it?
Because if it was already built up, this is where
the expectors are.
Speaker 2 (11:24):
You set the expectation high, and all of a sudden,
you know, barely clearing that bar doesn't put you in
line for coach de One of the good things I
will say about Shan Pages gets to sit down with
our own Dave Logan and they do the coach's corner
this week, I believe they're going over the two point
conversion breakdown.
Speaker 1 (11:39):
It's Dave Logan with Sean Payton.
Speaker 3 (11:41):
Dobbins behind Nick's playfake.
Speaker 6 (11:43):
Nick rolls for his right, throws about his own, Franklin
has its two point conversion, is done, and seven point
thirty six to go.
Speaker 1 (11:51):
The Broncos in front eighteen to seventeen.
Speaker 6 (11:55):
So obviously, Sean, I mean the two point play was
was a big play to walk us through. The first
of all, the mindset you had to decide to go
forward at that point, well, I.
Speaker 7 (12:06):
Think there were two elements to it. There were still
seven minutes and change left in the game, and so
we knew we were gonna we had some momentum. We
knew we're going to have the ball again, and this
gave us a chance to you know, go up for
the first time in the game. And then also there
was a pretty clear idea as to what kind of
(12:27):
coverage we get with certain personnel, and we were counting
on Manda Man and you see Troy. You know, he's
got a tight split and oftentimes, you know, the defensive
back thinks, you know, this is going to be something
that crosses the formation. He's got a very good sudden
change of direction. And you know this ze quick route
(12:51):
you know, came off of a little bit of a
play action. But really we got the coverage we wanted
in Bowen. He made a great play there. At some
point we're going to catch that with our thumbs together.
But but I'll settle for the reception.
Speaker 6 (13:07):
You know, Yeah, I think from a from an X
wide receiver standpoint, I know, I know exactly what you're
talking about. Hey, just just theoretically, if you when you
bring and I think it was Courtland that came in motion,
when you run motion on that play, and let's just
say you don't get manned.
Speaker 7 (13:21):
Demand what here's a progression. Okay, yeah, there's going to
be a tight end climb and thrown so quick you
but there is a progression relative to if not.
Speaker 6 (13:32):
This, then it's here. Yeah, but I like I like
moving Nicks.
Speaker 1 (13:36):
A little bit.
Speaker 7 (13:37):
We did and uh, you know it can kind of
get away from corrector if you get it. The runner
does a great job cutting you know, the edge player
down and they were in like a zero funnel look.
And uh, and then the throwing angle if you watch it,
it's different than if you're in the pocket. So when
when you move, your throwing angle is a little bit
(13:59):
clear than uh, than trying to make that throw from
you know, five yards behind the center.
Speaker 1 (14:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (14:07):
Final final thought here as I was calling that play,
what struck me? There were three or four things and
you've mentioned him, but the accuracy of the throw. If
that thing is not i mean right where Franklin can
handle it, then you got issues.
Speaker 7 (14:21):
Yeah, when you reverse out like that, it's it's on
an even step count, so it's a sixth step throw
and it's a play we we've had up for three
weeks in a row, and I would say we felt
last week was a really good look for it. And
of course you know we got the coverage we were on.
Speaker 3 (14:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (14:39):
Good so Sean, thanks.
Speaker 3 (14:40):
Thank you, David.
Speaker 2 (14:42):
Sean Payton sat down with our own Dave Logan and
obviously we love getting to do the coach's corner every week.
Get to hear those and that was the uh uh
the two point play breakdown from from Coach Payton Well
went into that you get a chance to have you
missed any part of that, to get a chance to
re hear it Sunday morning, uh when I will replay
that for you as well. So if you missed any
part of that, also, you can go to Brouckos Country
(15:03):
Night dot com, splash podcast or wherever's your podcast app
lighting and Spotify, the free and redesigned iHeart Radio where
you can get the taking It for Granted archives as well.
Speaker 1 (15:11):
Dust those things off. That's the litw the dust off
the links, right. I keep trying to convince Grant to
do a new episode. He just he's just stubborn. He
just won't.
Speaker 3 (15:19):
Harder to find than the Ark of the Covenant.
Speaker 1 (15:24):
Swamping the sandbag. You go, oh my goodness. Yeah, talking
about I don't even know who Sean Connery is.
Speaker 3 (15:36):
And yeah that that in the last one and the
original James Bond.
Speaker 1 (15:39):
What are we talking about?
Speaker 3 (15:40):
Who Sean Connery is?
Speaker 1 (15:42):
Also the mentor in The Highlander?
Speaker 3 (15:44):
Very true.
Speaker 1 (15:48):
I don't know what that is. Yeah, that's the extent
of my Connery catalog. Everybody has a Sean Connery impersonation.
Mine is especially terrible. So mine is uh.
Speaker 2 (15:58):
I don't even do a Sean Connery person I do
an impersonation of Darryl Hammond doing Sean Connery from the
VSML Jeopardy episodes.
Speaker 1 (16:05):
That's my Sean Connery ipersonation. We come back, We've got
Patrick Keyoti. We're going to get into it with him.
Speaker 2 (16:11):
See if he sees any cracks in this thing with
the Broncos and the Jets live from London on Sunday,
this Broncos country.
Speaker 1 (16:19):
Now, we'll be back after this.
Speaker 8 (16:25):
When we're looking at other stadiums, we're really looking at
the things that we like and good designs that we like.
I would say our list is longer on what we
don't like at other stadiums. I mean, just you know,
to understand what you don't want to do. Also, hearing
and learning from others' mistakes, and most teams will be
very forthcoming with the things that they would change and
(16:46):
what they would do differently, and so we really learn
a lot from those conversations.
Speaker 2 (16:50):
That's Garry Petter Gry wanting better with our own Susy
Warden anyways, get the full story on Sunday.
Speaker 1 (16:56):
Get to hear the full interview on Sunday exclusively right
here on KOA.
Speaker 2 (17:02):
Five six six nine zeros. The text line had a
couple of great tests come in. Uh the three or
three gets it? That's what your mother said last night, Trebek.
Somebody watched those SNL Jeopardy. Those are my favorites back
in the day. Let's run to the Kay comes with
hotline and bring on our guy, Patrick Keoti Patrick.
Speaker 3 (17:19):
How you doing, buddy?
Speaker 9 (17:21):
Hey man, I'm good.
Speaker 1 (17:22):
How are you doing? Doing pretty well?
Speaker 7 (17:24):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (17:24):
Yesterday I don't know if you watched Thursday at football
at all, but I was watching a game.
Speaker 2 (17:27):
And as I as I do, I tweeted out something
that was a little, you know, stir the pot when
I said, uh, you know, looking at the Giants beat the.
Speaker 1 (17:37):
Brakes off the Eagles kind of takes a little luster
off the uh the Eagles win. Do you agree or
disagree with that statement?
Speaker 9 (17:44):
Ah? Geez, man, you know you always love to stir
the pot, man, And you know what, that's one of
the reasons why I love you so much.
Speaker 10 (17:51):
No, man, I I don't. I don't necessarily.
Speaker 9 (17:54):
Think that it takes anything away from the win. I
think that you know, the Giants beat the Chargers.
Speaker 10 (18:02):
You know, I'll albeit in a tough, a tough game, But.
Speaker 9 (18:06):
I don't think it really necessarily takes anything away from
from the Broncos win. I think the Giants came out,
they had a good game plan to attack the Eagles.
They're obviously down jailing Carter and that's a that's a
big dude to be missing. But no, I don't I
don't think it really takes anything away at all. The
model always goes, you know, any given Sunday, anything can happen.
(18:29):
So I think it's just the Giants. Maybe they're finding
their groove a little bit with.
Speaker 10 (18:34):
A new quarterback under center.
Speaker 9 (18:36):
Who would have thought that Russell Wilson.
Speaker 10 (18:38):
Wasn't the answer in New York. But no, I think
I'm happy that the Giants beat.
Speaker 9 (18:43):
The Eagles, and I think it's going to make for
a more competitive game here in a couple of weeks.
Speaker 5 (18:49):
So what is it that the Broncos need to do
or have a continuation of after the win the big
win against the Philadelphia to keep these trains somewhat moving forward.
Speaker 9 (19:02):
Well, first and foremost, the biggest thing is they got
to clean up the penalty is they got to figure
it out.
Speaker 10 (19:07):
What they're the second most penalized.
Speaker 9 (19:09):
Team in the NFL, you know, like one of the
like if they're like the third highest first down by
penalty defenses in the league and one of the lower
turnover percentage defenses in the.
Speaker 1 (19:23):
League as well.
Speaker 9 (19:24):
So I think it's I think the first thing is
clean it up schematically, like we got to figure out
how to stop getting illegal formations and illegal shifts. My goodness,
it's one of the most frustrating things I've ever seen
in my life. But you know, just clean it up,
play cleaner football, and play better assignment football. I think
(19:44):
that's first and foremost going into this week.
Speaker 2 (19:47):
Tyler Patrick Yodi, I think the Broncos are going to
beat the breaks off the Jets. You know, I just yeah,
as you look at this Jets team, I think the defense,
as you look at this, what you've seen so for
this year from that team is a credit to how
well coached they were when Bob Sala was there.
Speaker 1 (20:06):
If you've seen the drop off now with the current staff,
and then you know, as as you look at.
Speaker 2 (20:10):
This offense, justin fields might be the worst thing to
happen to quarterbackings since since my good buddy Nick Nick
Ferguson's alma mater, Regie call uh and so I as
I said here, and I watched this and and justin
obviously the worst quarterback in New York uh at any level,
and just throwing shots at seekers for no reason. At
this point, how how are the Jets even gonna be
(20:31):
competitive in this thing?
Speaker 5 (20:32):
Just?
Speaker 1 (20:32):
I mean, because running the football is not gonna be enough.
Speaker 9 (20:36):
Yeah, no, I think, Uh, I mean, you're gonna have
to You're gonna have to attack this defense, and I
think they have to be aggressive.
Speaker 10 (20:43):
Uh last week was you.
Speaker 9 (20:44):
Know, really hopeful for for this offense.
Speaker 10 (20:47):
I think more so in the second half.
Speaker 9 (20:49):
Of the game.
Speaker 10 (20:50):
But uh, there were still some shots in the first
half that they took.
Speaker 9 (20:53):
That they missed on.
Speaker 10 (20:55):
And if they executed those, I think it.
Speaker 9 (20:57):
Would have been the Philly score would have been much
higher than it was. In all honesty, but I think
they carry they carry on that momentum of the pass game.
Bo was operating really well in the fourth quarter of
that game. I think you take what take what you
learned in the second half of that game, apply it
to the first half of the first half in the
whole game really against the Jets, and you just go
(21:19):
at him like we.
Speaker 3 (21:20):
Can't be afraid.
Speaker 9 (21:21):
We know they're going to be hungry. On paper, they
have a decent defense.
Speaker 10 (21:26):
But I think just stay aggressive on offense.
Speaker 9 (21:31):
You know, toss the ball around, get Courtland involved early,
go at Sauce Gardner, try and try and tackle his
confidence early. Like I think they're still.
Speaker 10 (21:41):
Going to be able to run the ball, like JK.
Speaker 9 (21:43):
Dobbins is averaging, like what fifteen fifteen carries a game?
Fifteen and a half carries a game. So I think
they're still going to pound the rock a little bit.
But I think you just kind of stay aggressive with
bow and keep growing the pass game.
Speaker 10 (21:54):
Having Ingram back last week was massive.
Speaker 9 (21:57):
Get him a little more involved in the offense, but
just aggressive going forward.
Speaker 3 (22:01):
All right, Patrick, you just did it.
Speaker 5 (22:03):
You are not speaking Benjamin all Bright's language to win
the game because you focus totally on throwing the ball,
being more aggressive, and you almost you put a dash
of running the ball into the mix. I mean, you
just mentioned that the Broncos have done well with JK.
Darvins and Argie Harvey. Why not stick to that.
Speaker 9 (22:26):
What I mean, I think they're I think they're going
to like I'm not saying throw the ball forty times
a game. I don't want to see Bonnicks throwing the ball,
you know, between thirty thirty five to forty times a game.
I think Max has the highest end that he should
be throwing the ball in these games is thirty times.
That's like the highest end, but anywhere between like twenty
(22:47):
five to thirty I feel okay with that. But it's
like the forty pass the forty plus pass attempts is
a little outrageous. You got to find a good mix,
and I think they they've been finding that early, Like
early in the script, they've got a nice blend and
then they try.
Speaker 3 (23:03):
To attack it there.
Speaker 9 (23:04):
They just have not been executing well in that facet.
So I definitely do think they.
Speaker 1 (23:09):
Stick with the run game.
Speaker 3 (23:11):
JK.
Speaker 9 (23:11):
Dobbins is like averaging what five point something yards per carry.
I mean, that's hard to take off the field and
take out of your offense. R. J. Harvey is one
of the best running backs in the league after contact,
So I think they do stick with that, and I
think if they just have to find a good blend,
(23:32):
but you have to be able to execute the pass
stuff early in order to sustain those longer drives earlier
in the game.
Speaker 2 (23:38):
Him, I'm on the other side of this, you know me.
I love to run the football right, and I want
to see I want to see. To me, the ideal
outcome in this game is a game where I look
back at the box scorer, I see that Tyler Badet
had twelve carries in this game, right, because something either wait,
incredibly right is it for that to happen? Or incredibly
wrong for that to happen, And hopefully it's to the
something right, because I mean, you're up so big at
(24:00):
this point, You've got your third string running back in and.
Speaker 1 (24:02):
They're running football. That's what I want.
Speaker 2 (24:04):
I want a game we're both throwing it twenty eight times,
we're running the ball forty five times, and the final
score is thirty to you know, thirty to sixteen with
a backdoor touchdown is the only tuddy they got?
Speaker 9 (24:15):
Absolutely no, And like I am, I'm right there with you, man,
Like I do want them to.
Speaker 3 (24:21):
I shouldn't say they like should.
Speaker 9 (24:23):
Pass the ball so many times, Like I just want
them to be more efficient in passing the ball because
I feel like it is there. But the run game
is looking better and better every week. JK. Dobbins just
continues to look like a like a really smart signing
by this team. And like, let's get R. J. Harvey
some more carries, Let's give him the ball a little
bit more, let him run between tackles a little bit more.
Speaker 1 (24:45):
I want to see him.
Speaker 10 (24:46):
I want to see him bust some more tackles.
Speaker 9 (24:48):
Against this Jets defense and really.
Speaker 10 (24:50):
Just just strike their confidence down.
Speaker 9 (24:52):
Man, Like they're zero to five. They've played in some
close games this year, but you know they're going to
be hungry. This is like they're tied for the most
fourth quarter points in the league. So we have to
be aggressive on offense early, ghet the lead and hold
it because they're gonna try and fight and come back.
Speaker 1 (25:09):
We can't make this a close game at all.
Speaker 5 (25:12):
So is this the game where we see more of
Evan Ingram? And I know we would see him, you know,
sprinkles here and there when bow is running the bootleg
and keep plays. But is this a game against this
Jets defense where we're going to see dare.
Speaker 3 (25:29):
I say a coming out party for a guy like
Evan Ingram?
Speaker 5 (25:33):
Move?
Speaker 3 (25:33):
I mean it's just wild, even me even saying that,
are we going to see that?
Speaker 9 (25:37):
Yeah, well, Nick, I'm gonna tell you, for the sake
of my fantasy team, I hope it is. Because Evan
Ingram has been staring me in the face, like, hey, man,
put me in and I'm like, I don't know if
I can, buddy, Sorry, I kind of hope it is.
Like last week was a nice sign to get him involved,
especially against Philly, and like, they've got some really good
(25:57):
defensive pieces, so it was nice to see him get
that touchdown, right, Like, I think that probably helps his
confidence levels a little bit coming off the injury. But yeah, man,
like he needs to be involved. Look at how this
offense was without him in the lineup, right, Like, I'm sorry,
we can't put the best player on the team out
(26:18):
there because it just doesn't look the same. But Evan
Ingram like has to be a key part of this offense.
And I'm talking about Lucas crole of course, right, yeah,
obviously obviously, but you know, I think it just looks
a lot better with Ingram involved. He's a lot more aggressive.
Like you can spread him out a little bit more,
(26:38):
you can put him, you can put him out wider.
He can run routes just like a wide receiver can,
so I think that makes him a much bigger threat.
But man Bo was operating really well when he had
a target right in front of his face that he
could dump down to who was a reliable target. I
feel like Evan Ingram can be that guy. They were
(26:58):
getting the screen game going with him as well. I
really like to see that. I want to see that
continue to grow. So I think he I think.
Speaker 10 (27:05):
Is this going to be the breakout game?
Speaker 9 (27:08):
I hope so, because I think the offense will just
continue to look better when he is in the game.
Speaker 1 (27:13):
Talk with Patrick YETI Patrick, we're about a third of
the way through the NFL season. Where would you rate
the Broncos in terms of expectation prior to the season
relative to where they are right now?
Speaker 9 (27:26):
You know, like the seasons always seemed to start a
little bit slow under Sean Payton. You know, like people
if anybody thought that this team was going to be
like five and zero at this juncture, I think they
might have been a little cuckoo. But you know, like
I think it's really great that this team is sitting
at three and two with a chance to in the
(27:48):
next five games potentially win you know, three, four more
and then you're going into Kansas City with a going
up against Kansas City, I should say with a really
good feeling. I think like overall expectations, I'd say they're
probably right about level, Like we're sitting at about like
a five or six out of ten right now. Like
(28:09):
expectation wise, I think there's still plenty of room to grow,
but there's still so many things that they have to
fix before I can say like, oh, yeah, there's so
much better than they were last year. Like the penalties
are absolutely killing us. You know, we still have some
issues in sustaining drives. We've lost games where we've been
(28:31):
leading in the fourth quarter, Like that's that stuff. It's
just it's things that can't happen, Like you have to
be able to close out games, especially late in the season.
So expectation wise, I'm like sitting right in the middle
so far, not too low, not too high.
Speaker 5 (28:46):
So before you join those, Patrick Guy as been if
the Broncos were to give back to the playoffs after
a nine year drought, and obviously you got there last
year with Buffalo, if they were able to get back
in consecutive years, would Sean Payton be in the running
for Coach of the Year?
Speaker 9 (29:05):
Oh man, that's a tough one, dude. Like, I'm gonna
be honest, If Indianapolis keeps going on this run that
they're going on, it's gonna be hard for anyone to
beat out Shane Syken at this point, Like taking Daniel
Jones and doing what he's doing in Indie, that would.
Speaker 1 (29:20):
Be really, really tough.
Speaker 9 (29:21):
But I think, like, you know, if if they end
up as one of the top seeds, like I would think,
if they end up as one of the like top
three seeds, it's gonna be tough. Like it's gonna be
a real conversation if Sean Payton is that coach of
the year. I'm never gonna forgive him for, you know,
making the special teams changes that they made this year,
(29:42):
because I feel like that's the fast as the Broncos
that needed need some improvement on a week to week basis.
But I think if they end up as one of
those top three seeds, I definitely think that he could
be in that conversation.
Speaker 2 (29:56):
Talking with Patrick Gildy, I said the same thing about
Shane Stike It and it's not whether it's a deserving
thing or not. It's just one of those like I
know the voters, I know how they vote for this,
and it's the coach that that exceeded expectation with you know,
with a backup QB or something like that, that always
seems to wind up getting those those kinds of awards
at the at.
Speaker 1 (30:14):
The end of the year.
Speaker 10 (30:16):
Yeah, and it's like, I mean, this team was the
media was talking about.
Speaker 9 (30:19):
The Broncos being like this super Bowl contender and like
like just automatically preseason like, oh yeah, they made the
playoffs last year, they got blue out in Buffalo. This
team's going to be in the super Bowl this year.
Like that's a that's a little crazy. And for a
team like Indianapolis, who was going to be considered bottom
of the barrel, you know, you have a quarterback battle
(30:40):
between your top pick and the you know, the Giants runoff,
Like I think if they just if they sustain it,
like I said, if they sustained this throughout the season,
it's going to be really hard for anybody to beat out.
Shane's like and he is doing amazing things in India
and they're a lot.
Speaker 3 (30:56):
Of fun to watch.
Speaker 2 (30:57):
Yeah, they really are, unless they're playing us, in which
case it's not quite as fun.
Speaker 3 (31:02):
I will say this.
Speaker 1 (31:05):
Season, when you looked at the schedule, you thought, okay,
you need to come out of the first six games,
probably about four and two looks like they're they're on
the way to that. Then you get the next six games,
it looks like you need to kind of I don't
necessarily say we're on the table, but this you need
to make your you need to make your bones in it,
because that last third of the schedule is pretty brutal.
This this game's coming up.
Speaker 2 (31:21):
And now some of these games that you thought might
have been easy early on in the year, like for instance,
New York Giants that looks a little rough.
Speaker 9 (31:29):
Yeah, and that defense is going to be really tough.
And I mean we were talking about earlier, right, like
you know, they they beat the world champs, and but
like are they a good team? Like are the are
they turning into a good team as the day will
effect kind of going in now that they have a
fresh set of uh, you know, a fresh set of players,
(31:49):
a young gunslinger and a a running back that just
doesn't seem to have any care about human existing, Like
maybe They're a good team. That defense is pretty sacked,
and they've been pretty stacked for a couple of years now,
and it's been kind of frustrating because that defense has
been playing at a decent level. The offense just has
not been able to catch up. So I think I
(32:11):
think that's gonna be one of the tougher games. It's
not a cakewalk like we thought it was going to be.
There's some of these other games that are gonna be
really tough as well. Like I wouldn't put it past
Dallas to give us a little bit of a you know,
a gun show like that. That might be a shoot
them out type of game, who knows, But there's definitely
some some games in that latter half of the schedule
that are going to be really tough. I feel like
(32:33):
the next five six games, you have to come away
with at least four wins in the next six to
even be in that conversation.
Speaker 1 (32:41):
Well, if anyone would know a gun show would be you,
Patrick Keyoti.
Speaker 3 (32:44):
We appreciate that.
Speaker 1 (32:45):
Yes, we appreciate the time this evening brother, and look
forward talking again soon.
Speaker 9 (32:49):
Hey, thank you so much, guys, I really appreciate it.
I'm going to try and stay safe in my war zone.
Speaker 1 (32:54):
Out here, right, Brother.
Speaker 2 (32:57):
Patrick Keyoti always love get a chance to talk to him,
and I think he's right. I think you know we're
coming away probably four and two in the first third.
We need to come away probably four and two in
the second third. I put you at eight and four
as you stare down the barrel of that brutal schedule
at this point.
Speaker 1 (33:11):
Anyway to end the season, which he features Kansas City twice,
the Chargers, the Packers, I'll suddenly hot Jacksonville Jaguars team. Really,
the Raiders are kind of the only gimma games in
there if you were if you were to say there
were gimma games.
Speaker 5 (33:24):
Ben, I'll say this, I'll go back to my time
as Denver Bronco and use something from Rick Flair. To
be the best, you have to beat the best, and
that's the way you want it because it makes things
that much easier when you definitely have an opportunity to
beat those individual guys. That's the thing that gives you
(33:45):
the confidence that you can be a super Bowl caliber team.
Speaker 3 (33:48):
It's easy to beat the teams that you.
Speaker 5 (33:50):
Are expected to beat, but go on a run and
beat the teams that maybe even from a personnel standpoint.
Speaker 3 (33:58):
That's how you truly know you wanted tests.
Speaker 5 (34:00):
That's where you talk about building up that callous right.
Usually we always talk about that or use that phrase
when we started talking about the run game. But this
is where the Broncos they definitely need to.
Speaker 3 (34:11):
Win the game.
Speaker 5 (34:12):
On Sunday, you got a tough game against the Giants,
which we thought was going to be a k well
not so much, but then starting to show in that
back half of the season that you are for real
and that's where all the preseason talk.
Speaker 2 (34:24):
Leave that to the side. Go out there and show people,
don't just tell them, show them. Yeah, I'm I'm from Missouri.
It's the show me statement.
Speaker 3 (34:32):
It's right.
Speaker 1 (34:32):
I'm just saying. Broncos Country Night backing for this
