Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to a Broncos Country tonight post see you Buffs

(00:03):
Men's basketball edition.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
Thank you guys for be along for the ride.

Speaker 1 (00:09):
A lot of stuff to get to over yet another
close win with a fourth quarter, last minute comeback by
the Denver Broncos eighteen fifteen as they eat the Houston Texans.
This is, you know, another game that sort of points

(00:30):
to the resiliency of this team being able to come
back late, although I think many fans would prefer the
team would get off to a better start and not
consistently be playing from behind and need these last.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
Minute, last ditch type efforts. JK.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
Dobbins fifteen carries sixty one yards led the way on
the ground. Bow Nicks three carries thirty six Nobody else
had above ten yards. On the receiving side, R. J.
Harvey led the team in receptions and in yardage. He
had five receptions fifty one yards and unreceiving touchdown. Caught
all five of the targets thrown his way. Troy Franklin
was the most targeted receiver, was thrown at ten times,

(01:06):
only caught four of those balls for twenty seven yards.
Cortland Sutton was thrown at six times caught one pass
for thirty yards ont a touchdown. It was the toughest
defense the Broncos have been up against all year. The
Houston Txans defenses every bit is advertised quite good. They
did get an interception, got their hands on a few others.

(01:30):
They did block. The special teams unit did block a kick.
Hey will Let's kick earlier. Jerry Crosshaw eight punts four
hundred and twenty eight yards. That's a fifty three and
a half average, two of those inside the twenties. One touchback,
the longest was seventy six, booing.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
The average a little bit there.

Speaker 1 (01:47):
On returns, Harvey two kick returns fifty four yards, Tyler
Bday one kick return twenty two yards. Four punt return
for twelve yards for Michael Bandy, who also muffed one,
and it proceeded.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
To be a problem as well.

Speaker 1 (02:03):
In this game, the Broncos had two hundred and seventy
one offensive yards the Texans two sixty eight. Texans out
passed them one ninety one to seventy one. However, the
Broncos out rushed them one hundred to seventy seven. Time
of possession was decidedly in the Texans favor. Thirty four
minutes thirty six seconds time possession for the Houston Texans
only twenty five to twenty four for the Broncos. That
the difference in the game was third down percentage, where

(02:24):
the Broncos completed forty percent of their third downs, the
Houston Texans were only able to complete seventeen point six
percent of their third downs. Defensively, the Broncos had four
sacks the Texans had won. The Texans did get the interception,
and they did have a fumble recovery as well. Overall,

(02:47):
I thought the play of the offense when it needed
to be there was good, but mostly it was it
was a struggle and I would not say appreciably a
great day for the offense at all. Bonnicks was not well,
you know, in complete passes. It wasn't necessarily drops, it
was just quite simply that it was not hitting the target.

(03:08):
The most interesting part of the game to me was
the Denver Broncos taking over after the Houston Texas has
got three plays and only got seven yards out of it.
In part of the ball with full forty nine to go,
and the Broncos passed to R. J. Harvey the right

(03:29):
for four yard gain. They passed a Harvey for twelve
yard gain, passed the Dobbins for two yard loss, rushed
Dobbins for a one yard gain, and on second twelve,
excuse me, third and eleven, bow Knicks passed to Pat
Bryant down in the middle for a thirteen yard game
that took us to the two minute warning and at
that point the forty eight yard line. Bow then, outside

(03:50):
of the two minute warning had I'm sorry he rushed
to the left for two yard game after that first down,
and then at the two minute warning, he had two
incomplete passes. After the two minute warning in a punt
by Jeremy Crosshaw for thirty seven yards from the fifty
that had you know, no return and pinned Houston deep.

Speaker 2 (04:11):
And this was the part where.

Speaker 1 (04:14):
Houston inexplicably and came out in their presser today and
tried to defend it. Decided that from their own thirteen
yard line, needing eighty seven yards for a touchdown, fair
Bard had missed a kick earlier in the day, so
he probably needed to make this a forty five to

(04:35):
fifty yard field goal somewhere in there, right. They probably
needed fifty yards in a minute, and they were unable
to get it, I mean completely incapable of getting it here,

(04:57):
and it was fascinating to me. They passed on for
down and it's incomplete. Okay, you got a minute fourteen
to go. What in the world are you doing. You're
backed up at your own thirteen if you don't get this,
If you don't get this first down, and don't get
me wrong, as Denver Broncos fans will take it because
it allowed us to get the victory. But if you
don't get this first down, you're backed up at your

(05:18):
own thirteen. You're under two minutes to go. The Broncos
only have two timeouts, and you've got a minute fourteen
to go, and you dial up three pass excuse me,
three pass plays and all you get are two incompletions
in a four yard gain, which was which had an
immediate time out cault I don't or four yeard pas
excuse me? It went out of bounds?

Speaker 2 (05:37):
Was at the time out.

Speaker 1 (05:38):
I went out of bounce and that was the Davis
Mills to Jaden and Higgins pass. You can't go out
of bounds there in that particular situation. You have to
get a first down before you can start thinking about
clock in the football and trying to go for that
additional forty yards you have to get that first down.

Speaker 2 (05:55):
And the reason I say that is.

Speaker 1 (05:58):
Because ultimately the Houston Texans only took fourteen seconds off
the clock, and then they're punting the ball and even
with a great punch, you're still putting the Broncos at
borderline field goal range for Will Lutts, and they got
an absolutely phenomenal punt, just you know, just a great
punt fifty five yards. Andy got an eight yard return

(06:19):
out of it. You net of forty three. That the
problem is if you're at the thirteen and the net
of forty three puts you twenty yards from with fifty
seconds remaining, puts you at twenty yards from being able
to kick a field goal for the Broncos. The Houston
Texans absolutely should have sent that to overtime and then
tried to play, you know, and tried to play four
from overtime from there where they weren't backed up at
their own endzo when any number of negative things could

(06:41):
have happened. Honestly, if you're the Houston Texans, you probably
should have just melt it three times, tried to keel
out the clock and then punted the ball high in
the air and out of bounce and finished out the quarter.
As it were, they took a mere twenty four seconds
off the clock, and that includes the punt play. The

(07:03):
total of twenty four seconds off the clock including the
punt play, fourteen seconds was all they took off the
clock with three incompletions and it completed pass to the
right and wound up giving Denver the ball back with
fifty seconds remaining and a timeout. So the Broncos first
thing they do passed R. J. Harvey on the left
three yard gain and then Bow breaks one for twenty

(07:24):
five yards and it's over. At that point, they went
ahead and had Dobbin's rush for nine and Houston called timeout.
Dobbin's rush for two, they called another time out. Bow
rushed to the left for another nine yards, and then
Denver called the time out. Three seconds left and will
let's kick the thirty four yard field goal. But I
mean that additional yardage was wholly unnecessary.

Speaker 2 (07:43):
As well.

Speaker 1 (07:44):
Let's certainly capable of kicking much much more than a
thirty four yard field goal. I cannot, for the life
of me figure out what Houston was thinking. I mean,
it's basically co ying malfeass. We talk all the time
about smart football and dumb football, and I criticized Broncos

(08:04):
coaches for making some moves that are less than the
smart thing to do in certain situations. This move by
the Houston Texans might have been the most boneheaded coaching
I've seen all time. Neither offense was getting the job done,
neither offense had been particularly good, and you're wearing down

(08:28):
on defense towards the end of the game. Why on earth?
As the Broncos have had fourth quarter momentum all year,
and fourth quarter momentum even in this game, they potted
the ball away at the fifty when they'd finally gotten
some offensive momentum, going to give the Texans the ball
down there to begin with, they were counting on a
defensive stop and a field flip and then just being
able to get twenty yards on the next series. They
were counting on it, and they got it. They got

(08:48):
used to do exactly what they wanted. The Houston Texans
did exactly what the Denver Broncos wanted in that endgame,
that was attempting to go for it by multiple passes.
They didn't get the clock ran off, and it gave
the Broncos back plenty of time. If that ball when
you go out of bounds on that four yard play

(09:09):
with Jayden Higgins right, you second and ten from the thirteen,
you get out to the seventeen. It's a four yard game, right,
so you're third and six at that point. You had
to do something that ensured that, no matter what, the
clock was still gonna run. You either run a screenplay there,
you run the ball there, whatever the case may be.
You had to have Denver use a time out of

(09:31):
that clock run and they didn't do any of that.
Should run on first down to see if Denver called
time out. Denver doesn't call time out, then once the
clock gets under forty seconds, then you try to get
the yardists and get yourself into into field goal. Reggie
Houston Texans had two timeouts or full complett timeouts. I believe,
I know they had at least two. They may have
had three at that point. It didn't matter. You let

(09:53):
that clock get under forty seconds and then you do
stuff like that. That way, you've got the option of
being able to try to ride that thing out and
get to overtime instead of turning the ball, you know,
punting the ball back to the Broncos in basically borderline
field goal range. And I'll never understand. That blows my mind.
I don't understand even the beginnings of how someone gets

(10:17):
to the point where they put their opponent in a
great chance to be able to win it like that,
You're overthinking yourself. And the problem line at the press
is always going to be, well, we were going to
go for it, or you know, we were, we were,
we were going to score, we were. You know, there's
always like the you know, the fake tough guy answer,

(10:37):
which which is stupid. The math here is clear as day.
What are you doing? You gave the ball back to
your opponent with a minute of time, two timeouts and
needing twenty yards to get in field goal range. Stupid
there's a word for it. Yeah, it's stupid. So the
Houston Texans wind up losing that game. Dever, Broncos when
we'll take it, Hey, you guys want to be stupid,

(10:59):
we'll take it. Just it grinds my gears want to
see terrible, terrible clock management, no matter who it is,
and this is one that was in particular just terrible
endgame management from the Houston Texans. Broncos caught a break
fairly early on CJ. Stroud went down in this one.

Speaker 2 (11:13):
CJ.

Speaker 1 (11:14):
Stroud finished the day for the Texans six or ten
seventy nine yards. He took two sacks for nine yards
as well. Davis Mills played most of the game for
the Houston Texans three quarters of it anyway, seventeen of
thirty one hundred and thirty seven yards, no touchdowns, no interceptions.
He also took two sacks. Nick Chubb Woody Marks rand

(11:34):
a ball eleven and ten times respectively for thirty four
and twenty seven yards. Neither one could get really much
of anything going. Stroud two carries for twelve, Mills two
carries for seven. Bridge books game in two carries for nothing,
and Jalen Noel had an end around one carry for
negative three yards. By the way, that play was just
not working that receiver. That receiver rush was just not

(11:57):
working for either team in this game. Dalton Schultz was
one of the two bright spots for the Houston Texans.
Schultz had six catches seventy seven yards on eight targets,
three of those went for first downs. Nico Collins seven
catches seventy five yards on eleven targets. Five of those
went four first downs. The only two other players even

(12:19):
had multiple catches for the Texans, Savior Hutchinson three for thirty,
Christian kirk Ford for twenty six, Higgins, Oakman, Wallee, Bryant,
Mark Sol targeted and had little to nothing going there.
One catch for four, one catch for two and catch
for two and nothing. Kymie Fairburn five of six for
field goals, he missed one. The longest he connected on

(12:42):
was forty one yards, which is why I said you
probably need to get him within forty five for range.
And again that just oh, that made no sense. It
was just going to watch. On the one hand, I'm like,
this is horrible coaching process, and then on the other like, well,
we're gonna win because of it, so I'll take it.

(13:05):
Tommy Townsend had eight punts for four hundred and twenty
yards of fifty two and a half average, two inside
the twenty two touchbacks at a seventy three long. Treymont Smith,
the former Bronco, one kick return thirty six yards. Braxton
Barrios two kick returns forty nine yards. Jalen Noel had
all four of the Texans punt returns for forty five
yards excise me a long of forty five sixty two total.

(13:29):
That long win did upset them up on the Texans
side of the things. The interception went to Bullock and
if you watch that play, I'm pretty sure as I did,
you saw him read Kaylyn Bullock read the play the
entire way, go leave a ball bout put significantly too
much air underneath. Will Anderson had the loan sack for

(13:50):
the Houston Texans. Lasser two passes defense, Stingley two passes
defense as well. Stingley just he started got beat by
Sutton off the line for that touchdown. That was that
was interesting to watch. There were a couple of plays,
one where Petrie fell down and then bo just missed
Evan Ingram. There were opportunities for that offense to do more,

(14:14):
but they were unable to execute and left those those
points out there on the field. Rocos get the short week.
I got Las Vegas coming to town. On Thursday night.
Rock Bauers had himself a hell of a game for
the Las Vegas Raiders. The Raiders played a late game
that went to overtime against the Jacksonville Jaguars played for

(14:37):
the two point conversion, didn't get it.

Speaker 2 (14:40):
I maintained it was the right call. Nick disagrees with me,
but I don't know what you're doing playing for a
tie at that point.

Speaker 1 (14:48):
Overall, the Broncos have got special teams issues, and this
is something that is bothersome and continues to be bothersome.
You fired two perfectly good special teams coaches who had
the special teams unit outside of one field goal block
against the Chiefs in pretty good position. Meanwhile, special teams

(15:09):
has been an abject disaster.

Speaker 2 (15:10):
This year for the Broncos.

Speaker 1 (15:12):
This game especially, you had a blocked field goal, you
had muffed punts. It was just a bad special team's day.
And Darren Rizzy continues to Sean Payton continues to bristle
at the notion that it can be questioned by media.
Darrenrizzy can be questioned by media anytime you do well.
We're not talking about that today or whatever. The reality is,

(15:35):
special teams have been bad since they brought Darren Zzy.
And it's not to say that Darren Rizzy isn't a
respected coach, but it was working fine, It was working
really well last year. Firing those coaches didn't really make
much sense at the time and makes less sense in hindsight.

(15:57):
Broncos managed to get a win though, keep the streak
alive out side of Dallas and Cincinnati. Most of these
game most these wins have been fourth quarter comebacks. Dallas
and Cincinnati the two teams with the worst defenses in
the league. The Giants shoring up the Holy Triumvirate is
the Broncos have played three of the worst defenses in

(16:17):
the NFL to start the season. Raiders on Thursday should
be a win though, you get out there to you know,
at eight and two, and then you've really got the
meat of the schedule. Now down the stretch. Kansas City
coming to town on they get the bye week, we
get the mini buye with the Thursday night game. We'll

(16:38):
see how that shakes out. Kansas City kind of got
run by Buffalo yesterday. See how they recover.

Speaker 2 (16:46):
More when we come back.

Speaker 1 (16:47):
You are listening to the post SEU Buffs Basketball edition
of Broncos Country Tonight right here on Kowa. We welcome
back to it Broncos Country Tonight. Benjaminal Bright here with
you on the post. See you Buss Men's Basketball edition
appreciate you guys listen today. Lots of stuff to get

(17:07):
to around the league. The Arizona Cardinals deactivated Kyler Murray.

Speaker 2 (17:14):
He was inactive tonight.

Speaker 1 (17:17):
Jonathan Gannon had already announced that Jakoby Brissette was going
to start, but said that Kyler could have had a role. Murray,
of course, has not played since a Week five loss
to the Tennessee Titans when he injured his foot. The
Cardinals had listed him as questionable to serve as the
backup to Brisset. Arizona's one in seventeen it's last eighteen
games without Kyler Murray starting and finishing the game. The

(17:40):
only win without Murray he's coming a twenty eight to
sixteen victory over the Cowboys in twenty twenty three, in
a game Josh Dobbs started. Kyler, of course, grew up
in the Dallas suburb of Allen, undefeated at AT and
T Stadium, a nine to zero record in games in
Allen High School, Texas A and I AM Oklahoma. And
the Arizona Cardinals Cardl's other inactive's Blal Nichols, Elijah Jones,

(18:06):
mostly the same names they did have. Corner Will Johnson
active and also Walter Nolan got his first start for Arizona.
Cowboys had some surprise and actives Mazie Smith wide receiver,
Jonathan Mingo, offensive lineman to keep it, Denishai running back
Jayon Blue. So several things on the Dallas side that
were a little surprising. Word broke this morning that the

(18:30):
Dolphins and Eagles had finally agreed to a trade that
would send edge rusher Jalen Phillips to Philadelphia, something we
talked about on the Insider Report right here on KOWE
before the Broncos Houston game. Both teams announced the deal
back this afternoon. The Eagles will send their twenty twenty
six third round pick to the Dolphins in exchange for Phillips,

(18:50):
who played for the Eagles in defensive coordator Vic Fangio.
When Fangio ran Miami's defense back in twenty twenty three,
Phillips had six and a half sacks in eight game
games before telling his achilles eight year towards they see
a last year in three sacks while appearing in every
game this year. Mike McDaniel and his presser says that
part of the business I absolutely dislike having to say

(19:12):
goodbye to a player. I understand it was a trade.
We got back compensation. I understand the value of that compensation.
Nobody wants to lose a good player. Eagles have also
traded for corners Jaira Alexander and Michael Carter in recent days.
All thirty two teams have until two o'clock tomorrow afternoon

(19:33):
local time, and here in Denver on Tuesday to complete
any other trades. Talked about the Cowboys earlier. Michael Parsons,
of course, is gone, but the hard feelings continue to linger.
Months of acrimony resulted in an August twenty eighth trade
to the Packers. Since then, owner and general manager Jerry

(19:54):
Jones has largely played defense by explaining in various ways
the decision to trade away one of the best defensive
players in football at a time when his team's defense
is now among the worst in the sport. On Monday,
eight days after Parsons publicly campaigned about the team's treatment
of corner Trevon Diggs, Jones tried a new argument, suggested

(20:15):
that Parsons isn't worthy of the money he wanted. It's
a weak argument, frankly, in Parsons, who played without hesitation
in twenty twenty four for well below market value, even
though he was eligible for a new deal. Was using
the tools available to him to try to get the
contract his performance earned. Jones was trying to squeeze Parsons

(20:38):
down or the terms of a supposed handshake deal that
Jones tried to do behind the back of parsons agent.
Entire situation happened because Jones wanted to low ball Michael
Parsons and because Jones got upset when Parsons didn't respond
to mistreatment with gratitude. Taking a clumsy shot at Parsons
character as the latest ploy and this guided pr effort

(21:01):
aim to making the fancy it his way before lighting
up behind the millionaires as they all too often do.
Niners having even more bad injury luck. Forty nine Ers
rookie defensive end Michael Williams will miss the rest of
the season after tearing his ACL and Sunday thirty four

(21:22):
to twenty four win over the Giants. Coach Kyle Shanahan
confirmed the diagnosis at the press conference earlier today and
said Williams suffered a lateral meniscus tear and he's looking
forward to his first round pick making a full recovery.
Shanahan said they expect to get defensive end Bryce Huffed
back from a hamstring injury this week and that should
help fill out the ranks in William's absence. He also

(21:45):
said that wide receiver Ricky Pearsol, who's had a knee issue,
and center Jake Brendle, who's had a hamstring issue, could
return this week, but there is no plan to open
wide receiver Brandon and Iyuk's practice window at this time.
Niners also out there commenting on playing surfaces. Forty nine
Ers tight end George Kittle got his first taste of

(22:08):
football life had MetLife Stadium. After the game, was asked
by reporters for his assessment of the field, saying, quote,
my only issue is with this, like when someone's field
is like the butt of a joke throughout all social media, constantly,
on every meme page, everybody jokes about how bad it is.
I feel at that point someone should take a look
at it. Let's not make it. No NFL field should

(22:28):
be the butt of a joke ever. End quote. Well,
that said, there's always gonna be a worst field in
the NFL. No matter what, that field will be the
one that gets made fun of Kittle would just prefer
that it's not so bad that it stands out from
the crowd. Kit'll point it out that it's not that
way in other sports, noting that basketball players play on

(22:50):
the same hardwood and soccer players in Europe play on
extremely nice grass fields. But in the end, except that
there's nothing he can do about it, saying, quote, it's
way above my pay grade. I don't understand why they
don't fix that. It's the money that they spend for

(23:10):
other things. You would think that they would be capable
of fixing that over there at MetLife, but for whatever reason,
refused to do so and continue to refuse to do so.
The Packers will not have Tucker Kraft for the rest
of the twenty twenty five season if the tight end
suffered a torn acl during yesterday's loss to the Panthers.

(23:32):
Craft was in the midst of a breakout season.

Speaker 2 (23:34):
He'd caught thirty two passes for four hundred and eighty nine.

Speaker 1 (23:36):
Yards and six touchdowns in eight games, at a career
high seven catches one hundred and forty three yards in
the Week eight win over Pittsburgh, and had two catches
for twenty yards on Sunday before suffering the injury. Head
coach Matt Lafleur told reporters in his presser today that
Kraft is taking a positive outlook and tucks. A guy's
not gonna flinch. That's why we love him. He's a

(23:57):
hell of a player, hell of a teammate for him,
bump for us, but that's part of it. Craft was
a third round pick in twenty twenty three, fifteen touchdowns
in his first forty two games as a pro. The
injury potentially could have had an effect on the Denver Broncos,
as the Broncos were reportedly sniffing around tight end Luke Muskrave,

(24:20):
their third stringer. Musgrave will now be pressed into duty
for the Green Bay Packers, who are short bodies at
the position, and it's unlikely that they would deal him
to the Denver Broncos, who have been looking for additional
help at the tight end position. Chargers left tackle Joe
Alt is out for the rest of the season. That
means both starting offensive tackles for the Chargers are out.

(24:43):
Team announced that Alt will have surgery or pair and
ankle injury he suffered on Sunday against the Titans. It's
a second high ankle sprained. Alt has suffered this season
to the same leg. Initially injured the ankle in Week
four at the Giants and returned for the game against
the Vikings all It was the fifth overall in the
twenty twenty four NFL Draft. Right tackle Bobby Hart suffered

(25:06):
a groin injury as well. Alt moved from right tackle
to left tackle after Rayshawn Slater suffered a ruptured Betel
attendant during training camp. Chargers still managed to eke out
a six and three record thus far to host the
five and three Steelers on Sunday Night Football. The Bengals

(25:28):
have been much maligned this season, although with Joe Flacco
the offense is certainly picked up. But after the defense
allowed Bears tight end Colston Lovelin to score a fifty
eight yard touchdown with seventeen seconds left a thirty seven
second drive since NAT running back Chase Brown didn't hold back,
went off on the Bengals defense, which has allowed three
hundred points and thirty eight hundred and thirty nine yards

(25:48):
so far this season, as the defense on pace to
set the NFL record for most points allowed, SURT passing
five hundred and thirty four allowed by the twenty twenty
four Panthers and the most yards allowed seven forty two
allowed by the twenty twelve Yes You gets two. Coach
tom Sean Payton led Saints. Brown said, we put the

(26:13):
ball in the end zone with fifty four seconds left
and go up a point at the end. Finish the
bleeping game, like, just end it. That's it, that's what
we need to do. Just end the bleeping game. Bengals
coach Zach Taylory was none too happy with Chase Brown,
saying the running back was out of line.

Speaker 2 (26:31):
Quote.

Speaker 1 (26:32):
No, if you're not doing everything you can on your own,
And I pointed out with Chase there were two big
plays that we could have done better, would have led
to points. And so I think I liked the reaction
from Jamar Chase a little bit better. I can tell
Jamar is frustrated, but he didn't want guys coming at
him if he had a poor performance or something that
he was disappointed in. I trust that's a one time thing.

(26:52):
We'll learn from that. It's not how we want to react.
It's one of our best players, one of our highest
character players. I think, in moments of frustration, said that
I don't expect it to happen again. Bengals, for their partner,
not planning on making changes to their defensive coaching staff
despite being in line to surpass both dubious records, Taylor
said after allowing eighty six points in one thousand and
seventy eight yards and back to back losses to the

(27:14):
Lowly Jets and the Chicago Bears. One of the errors
that contributed to Sunday's Falcons loss was an intentional grounding
penalty in the fourth quarter that came after center Drew
Noisel snapped the ball earlier than quarterback Michael Pennix expected
on a second down play. After the game, Pennick said

(27:36):
Nazel heard clapping and thought it was my clap, and
he snapped the ball. Pennix and head coach Whereie Morris
both indicated the Falcons believe Patriots players were clapping and
said Morris said they simulated the snap.

Speaker 2 (27:47):
Which would be penalty if observed by officials.

Speaker 1 (27:51):
Video of the play did not appear to show anyone
near the line of scrimmage doing that. Patriots head coach
My Vrabel said he certainly didn't think that was anything
we did. Morris said in his press conference today, he
was relying on an explanation from the players and did
not intend.

Speaker 2 (28:05):
To accuse the Patriots of something over the line.

Speaker 1 (28:10):
The early snap and grounding penalty came after Parker Romo,
the kicker, he missed a game tying extra point and
the Falcons had a chance to get the ball back
with a defensive stop after the miscue. There's plenty for
the team to clean up in the week.

Speaker 2 (28:22):
Of that loss.

Speaker 1 (28:27):
Earlier today, something fairly bizarre happened, and the Cowboys apparently
are set to make a change to their roster before
the trade deadline. Team owner Jerry Jones said in an
appearance on Sirius XM radio that the team had agreed
to a trade. He did not elaborate on details about
the move, who the player was, or the other team,

(28:51):
but said quote immediately, it will have him on the
field and it will address some of the things that
have been our shortcomings. Cowboys acquired wide receiver Jonathan Mingo
in a trade with the Panthers after a similar announcement
from Jones last year. Jones said this team is still
talking to other clubs about potential moves they could make
ahead of the deadline. Maybe even more to come from Dallas.

(29:18):
Commanders coach Dan Quinn confirmed what was reported earlier Monday,
corner Marshawn Latimore out for the season, torn acl wide
receiver Luke McCaffrey will miss significant time with a broken
collar bone. Both players had MRIs today. Latimore and McAffrey
will land on the IR, joining running back Austin Eckler,
wide receiver Noah Brown, and defensive ends Dietrich Wise and

(29:40):
Dorant's Armstrong amoung others. McCaffrey was injured on the opening kickoff.
Commanders were already finn at the receiver position, with number
one wide receiver Terry mclaurain having missed his fifth game
on Sunday after aggravating his squad In Week eight, McCaffrey
had eleven touches for two hundre three yards, three touchdowns,

(30:01):
and a career high twenty nine point six yard average
on fifty eight kick returns, ranked third in the NFL.
Latimore played only two regular season games with the Commanders
last season after a trade from New Orleans, and hasn't
played a full season since his second season back in
twenty eighteen, when he played all sixteen games. He finishes
this season with twenty seven tackles, a pick, and seven

(30:22):
pass breakups. Quinn also went on to say that he
missed it by keeping Jayden Daniels in the game. The
decision to have quarterback Jayden and Daniels in the game
while down thirty one points in a blowout on Sunday
night came back to bite the Commanders when Daniels dislocated
his left elbow being tackled halfway through the fourth quarter.

(30:46):
Head coach Dan Quinn was asked about Daniels being on
the field in his postgame press conference and said the
injury did not happen on a designed run for the quarterback,
say quote, if we run at fifty times, it's either
a handoff or a throw fifty times. On Monday, though,
Quinn said he aired by not paying enough attention to
the possibility of Daniel scrambling on Sunday night, saying quote,

(31:09):
I know many of you have been asked about the
thought process of Jaden being in the game in that situation.

Speaker 2 (31:13):
I get that.

Speaker 1 (31:14):
I've been thinking about it honestly non stop too, And
for me, the answer is I missed it. Of course
he could scramble.

Speaker 2 (31:19):
It's Jaden. It's what he's special at. That's one hundred
percent on me.

Speaker 1 (31:22):
The decision that Quinn said he would like to do over,
but there's no sticking the toothpaste back in the tube
At this point. Commanders of three and six won't have
their franchise quarterback back on the field anytime soon, so
Quinn's gonna have to get creative in order to salvage
the season. Commanders play the Broncos on Sunday Night Football

(31:44):
here in a few weeks. For his part, Dan Quinn
also said that Joe Witt will be coming out of
the booth and down on the field to coordinate the defense,
not making a change of coordinator, but making him change
where he coordinates the defense from, ostensibly to keep an

(32:04):
eye on it. Another coach saying he won't make changes,
Zach Taylor says he trusts Al Golden won't make changes
to the defensive coaching staff bye week not going to
bring any changes in Cincinnati. That coach, Zach Taylor was
asked about that possibility at the press conference today, and

(32:26):
the question comes after the team allowed eighty six points
in one thousand and seventy eight yards and back to
back losses to the Jets and Bears. Taylor said he
absolutely believes the team has the right coaches in place,
and reiterated that when specifically asked about defensive coordinator Al Golden,

(32:46):
Taylor said, he's quote working like crazy. He's a great
football coach. He's doing everything he can to uncover every
single stone to make us play better. We're all sick
for the way these games have gone, and probably as
much as anybody on this planet, I trust in him.
I trusted the staff. Vegas defense had shown some signs
of improvement earlier in the year, but they have now

(33:08):
allowed the most points and yards in the league through
nine weeks of play. That's why putting up one hundred
and thirteen points over the last three games has only
resulted in one victory. Now, the a massive shift in
performance of the second half of their season is going
to have a happier ending than the first one. Miami

(33:29):
Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said his feelings on Chris Greer's
departure take an emotional toll, but are ultimately irrelevant. The
Dolphins lost twenty eight to six to the Ravens. There
was speculation the team could fire him but they wound
up making a different move part of ways with general
manager Chris Career. Greer spent more than two decades with
the organization. During his presser today, McDaniel said Dolphins owner

(33:51):
Stephen Ross told him directly of the move on Friday.
McDaniel acknowledged it impacted him personally, while saying it will
not impact the way he does his job. Previously reported
here on KOA by Yours Truly that Mike McDaniel needed
to make the playoffs in order to retain his job
in Miami, Dolphins made another trade, obviously, another change obviously

(34:18):
today by agreeing to trade Edge Rusher to the Eagles
in trust for Jalen Phillips. Could be more Bradley Chubbs
on the block as well, possibly even Jaylen Waddle. It'd
be difficult for McDaniel to make the playoffs given the
salary gut that appears to be and roster gut that
appears to be going on. Appreciate you guys being along

(34:39):
for the ride. Broncos Country tonight, Benjamin Olbright here with you.

Speaker 2 (34:45):
Got it break. We'll be back right here on ka
