Speaker 1 (00:00):
As we get ready for this massive Broncos Jaguars game
on Sunday. To help us break it down, we're joined
by Jaguars senior reporter and editor JP Shadrick. Find him
over on x at JP Shadrick. Jp, how are you
doing tonight?

Speaker 2 (00:18):
I'm doing well.

Speaker 3 (00:19):
Looking forward to this a meaningful football in late December.
This is a great weekend ahead of college and pro
football on Saturday tomorrow and then let's get the real
game going on Sunday and Denver looking forward to it.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
Yeah, there should be an absolutely tremendous weekend of football.
I think one thing everyone's looking at in this matchup
is the showdown between that red hot Jaguars offense scoring
twenty five points in seven straight games going up against
this high end Broncos defense. That seven game streak I mentioned,

(00:53):
though four of those have come against the Raiders, the Cardinals,
the Titans, and the Jets. How legit do you think
this surge from the Jaguar offenses and do you think
it'll be able to keep rolling against this Broncos defense.

Speaker 3 (01:05):
Yeah, that's a good question because early in the season
they really have some issues. Trevor Lawrence was inconsistent it
was just not really you know, really ripping it down
the field too much. It was a little hesitant in
some of us passing. And then as the comfort level
has grown in this offense, he's you know, been able
to kind of push it down the field a little
bit more, which is a good sign. They had some

(01:26):
drop issues on the offensive side early. Brian Thomas Junior
had a bunch of drops the first month of the season,
and then Travis Hunter gets hurt, so they're trying to
figure out the receiver room. They brought in Tim Patrick
late in training camp from Detroit more of a blocking option,
and then so when Travis Hunter gets hurt, it's saying, well,
let's let's go. We gotta go find a reliable receiver,

(01:48):
and they made a trade with the Raiders to bring
into Kobe Myers and that kind of changed the whole
tenor of what they're doing on offense because now all
of a sudden, Trevor Lawrence is confident that Jakobe Meyer
is going to be where he's supposed to be catch
the football, and then these other guys are making plays
around him too, I mean, and Brian Thomas has stepped
his game up, so I think.

Speaker 4 (02:08):
That's really helped on the offensive side.

Speaker 3 (02:10):
This is a test, man. I mean, the Broncos are
one of the best defenses in all the NFL obviously
are the pass rush game is incredible. You know, they're
doing everything except taking the ball away because they're sacking
guys before they can throw the football, like that's.

Speaker 4 (02:22):
The only reason they don't have takeaways.

Speaker 5 (02:24):
Right.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
So it's a.

Speaker 3 (02:26):
Really really big test for the Jaguars offensive line. They
want to be a physical group, and I think this
week and most weeks, the Jaguars really have to run
the football to be the balance type of attack they
want to be, especially against a team like this. You
got to stay ahead of the chains and don't let
them get third and second, third and long situations to
get that pass rush going.

Speaker 6 (02:47):
D If I want to back up for just a second,
you mentioned someone what I think is an intricate part
of what the Jags are doing, and you mentioned it
talking about the relationship with Trevor Lewis, and that's Jacobe Myers.
How is is appearance on the field change what Trevor
Lewins can do offensively, but more or less, how Liam
Korn set these ease two up to do a lot

(03:09):
of work as far as the games are concerned.

Speaker 3 (03:12):
Yeah, you know, Jacoby is just the reliable guy. He
really hasn't had that many drops in his career. That's
always been his mo. He just catches whatever shown at him.
He may not be like the deep threat, you know,
and a speedster down the field and all those things,
but that's not what Trevor Lawrence needs. He needs somebody
that's reliable. It's in the right place all the time,

(03:32):
that goes about their business the right way off the field.
And so far, so good, and I think that's been
a fantastic addition to what they need. I mean, they
think about like so twenty twenty two, when the Jaguars
were on the run and you know, fighting for the
division title down the stretch and playing well in December,
it was reliable receivers that could just go catch the

(03:54):
ball and you know, and Marvin Jones was that guy
who just literally would go seven yards catch the ball
and that's fine, Hey you got seven yards on first out,
it's second and three. They had a handful of those
kind of guys and that's all he needs. Yeah, everybody
wants the number one over the top receiver that's awesome
because it spreads out everything. But if you don't, okay,

(04:14):
that's cool. So Jacoby fits that to a t I think,
and obviously the organization think so because they just extended him.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
For three years today, so he's going to be here
for the long term.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
Brian Thomas Junior kind of fits that, that archetype of
that downfield over the top receiver. It's such an amazing talent.
Had a slower start to this season, but has been
heating up as of Wait, Jacoby Myers, you just kind
of talked about it. He's unlocked that Jaguars offense in
so many ways. If you were on the Broncos defensive
staff and trying to figure out a way to stop this,

(04:48):
this scorching hot Jaguars offense, how are you deploying certannin
this game? Are you prioritizing shutting down BTJ or are
you prioritizing the Jacoby Myers matchup.

Speaker 3 (04:58):
Well, that's a good one. That's a really good when.
I mean, I think they rely on Myers, Parker Washington
a little bit in the slot, you know, a lot
in their passing game. But like I said, I think
this is even though they've been thrown it around a
lot lately. It feels like this is still an offense
that wants to run. So if they can do that,

(05:19):
I think they do that all day instead of throwing
around forty times no matter who the defensive backs are.
So I think that's going to be probably a priority
in my in my book now, you know, But in
the passing game itself, you know, Brian Thomas is that
great over the top, kind of down the sideline.

Speaker 2 (05:37):
Option, and he, like we said.

Speaker 3 (05:40):
Earlier, has been a little inconsistent earlier in the season.
He's getting there now. But those other guys like Jakobe
Myers and Parker Washington and the tight end Brenton's range.
It's it's tough, Neanbourne, just one guy. I mean, their
team's really great, but there's a lot of options for
this Jaguars team, so you can only cover one guy

(06:01):
at a time.

Speaker 2 (06:03):
But as your question, I probably I mean.

Speaker 3 (06:06):
Probably Myers because he's the guy, like you said, he's
kind of unlocked Trevor a little bit.

Speaker 2 (06:11):
And then okay, he's got to find other options from there.

Speaker 5 (06:15):
JP.

Speaker 6 (06:15):
When you look at the Jags defense right now, they're
number one in the league as far as giving up
only eighty six yards in the Russian game. But when
you look at them as far as sacks on the season,
they're twenty fifth and twenty eight. What do you think
is the reason of this poet the statistical disparity as
far as the defense is concerned.

Speaker 3 (06:36):
Yeah, the run has been the priority all year on defense. Man,
that's from day one. Anthony Capinelli, the new defensive coordinator,
came in, really overhauled everything and then that was that
was it. I mean because last year when a previous coordinator,
previous coaching staff and the Jags couldn't stop anybody from
running the football, and then you're you're cooked, like you
can't do anything after that. If you can't stop him

(06:58):
for running, they can do anything that on any given day.
So that was the priority number one. And there have
been some moments where they've let them out of the
gate this year that's fine. But for the most part,
and that certainly has of late, they have really hammered
down the run game to the opposition, and then that
sets up everything else you want. Now. Early in the season,

(07:18):
Josh heinz All at the defensive end was getting a
bunch of pressures, you know, that's not an official stat
It changes, you know, with whoever's counting them. But he
was right there near the top of the league. And
pressure is just not maybe a half step away from
getting some sacks. Well that's that's fine and dandy, but
at some point you got to get some sacks and
change the game and change the tenor of what's going

(07:41):
on in the game. You guys know that in Denver
the way those guys do it, So it's just kind of.

Speaker 2 (07:45):
What it is. It has some injuries up front.

Speaker 3 (07:48):
Trayvon Walker's been dinged up a little bit on the
other side the last couple of weeks or so, and
he's hunter played trying to play through some stuff. Eric
Armstead's moved back inside this year. That's helped his game
a little bit. He's brought a little pressure.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
From the middle.

Speaker 4 (08:01):
But it's not a group that's gonna.

Speaker 3 (08:03):
Get home before. That's just not what they do. If
they're going to get home, they got to bring an
extra guy. This guy's some blitzs, you know. That's kind
of the way when they've had success, that's the way
they've been able to get it done.

Speaker 1 (08:16):
Talking with JP Shadrick with the Jaguars, or the Jaguars
senior reporter.

Speaker 5 (08:22):
Excuse me, JP.

Speaker 1 (08:25):
I think back to when Dan Campbell was hired with
the Lions and everyone was laughing at the kneecaps comment
Nick Sirianni. When he was hired by the Eagles, everyone
was cracking jokes about him playing rock paper scissors with
different players and coaches or whatever. This year, when Liam
Cohen got hired, everyone was cracking jokes about the the
Duvalt comments. And now you look up and he's having

(08:47):
as impressive a rookie coaching debut as anyone in football.
Where is Duval County at with Liam Cohen?

Speaker 3 (08:57):
I mean, if he keeps winning then goes deep for
the playoffs and gets to the promised land, I mean
he's everything's fine, Like they're winning, they want ten Yanks
for only like the seventh time in franchise history. So yeah,
everybody's cool with William like it's fine here.

Speaker 4 (09:14):
That is long gone and that lasted like a half
a day.

Speaker 3 (09:18):
I took off in social media and all that stuff,
but he quickly put that behind him when people realize,
oh wait a minute, this guy's serious business.

Speaker 2 (09:26):
He's not.

Speaker 3 (09:27):
He's not some joker. Maybe he just had a mistake
on the first day, Like that's fine. They're all in.
Everybody's all in on Liam. They love him, they love
his energy. Just turned forty years old. I mean, it
is a different type of just approach to everything compared
to some of the guys who've been around here before,
and some have had some success. I mean, Doug Peterson

(09:49):
went to the playoffs his first year, Doug Marone went
to the playoffs his first year.

Speaker 2 (09:53):
Both of those collapsed though after that.

Speaker 3 (09:56):
This one kind of feels with him and the new.

Speaker 4 (09:58):
Front office around him a little.

Speaker 3 (10:01):
More sustainable, at least early right. James Ladstone's making some
shrewd moves in season to kind of heat this team
afloat and going. And Antony Bocelli, who's from over Colorado
up the road from you, guys, Hall of Fame left tackle,
was in the front office now as well, and he
kind of sets the tone for what it is to
be a Jaguar and a professional Jaguar NFL player. There's

(10:23):
kind of been a lack of that around here, lack
of identity. What is the identity of the Jaguars? And
I think those three guys together have really kind of
nailed it. This season and then in their first year,
and they haven't they haven't quitched anything yet, but they've
got ten wins and they've done it with a group
that they've had to kind of cobble together as the
season goes along. So give it another year or two.

(10:45):
I think this could be a Jaguars team that's here
for the long haul.

Speaker 6 (10:48):
You know what I think is here for the long
haul having balance in your attack, and that means running
the ball. And you mentioned last week against the Jets,
Trevor Lawrens led the team in rushing and Travis etm
led the team in passing. Now, with that being said,
Toton in this game because of the hand injury if.

Speaker 5 (11:07):
Or Ben, Yeah, let me back in for a second.

Speaker 6 (11:09):
Where is it that the Jags actually get the edge
running the ball? If Tunan is not there and then
they they were not being as consistent?

Speaker 5 (11:18):
Where does that come from?

Speaker 2 (11:20):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (11:20):
And the consistency in the run game, obviously it's and
that's that's one thing. He's been fantastic. It's a contract
year for him. He's been a really solid play for
this team. But it's the physicality up front. I mean,
those guys are sticking of injuries. I mean, they've had
a bunch of guys in and out of the lineup
all year colv and Landon is going to start again
at left tackle for the second week in a row,

(11:40):
but it's the fourth position he started at this season
for the Jags. I mean, this guy has been so
versatile and such a key to what they do in
the offensive line. If somebody goes down, he hops it.
He's the extra ligneman sometimes, so they play six sometimes.

Speaker 2 (11:54):
I mean, so that's where the run.

Speaker 3 (11:56):
Game really starts, no matter who's back there. Their aggression,
their physicality, that's the whole mark of what the Jaguars
want to be. And then Eta has stepped up his
game between the tackles early in his career and back
in college, even at Clemson, I mean, he was a
bounce it out and run eighty yard guy, you know,
like he wanted the big play and let's get outside.

(12:19):
And even early in his NFL career he did a
lot of that.

Speaker 5 (12:22):
Not anymore.

Speaker 2 (12:23):
He's trusting the blocking up front. He's running up in.

Speaker 3 (12:26):
The holes, shoulders down and like really running hard. I
mean it's impressive to see Touton does the same thing
when he's healthy.

Speaker 4 (12:35):
We were expecting him to be kind of the outside
guy because.

Speaker 3 (12:38):
He runs a four to three, but we haven't seen
that breakaway yet. And then again LeQuinn Allen as well,
another rookie running back who's going to be the backup
this week.

Speaker 4 (12:46):
And those pass rushers better watch out because.

Speaker 3 (12:48):
They're gonna get some rip shots from Allan. I mean,
he's not he's not scared of anybody in the league
as a rookie. So in the pass protection game, he's
got some skill too, but it's a it's a full
in the running game, and but it starts up front
with that group. I mean, that offensive line has been
really impressive this year.

Speaker 5 (13:05):
Honestly, it has been.

Speaker 1 (13:07):
I'm excited to see that battle in the trenches between
the Broncos and the Jaguars this upcoming week. Looking at
the other side of the ball, Broncos offense Jaguars defense,
this will be the last one for you again.

Speaker 7 (13:19):
Talking with J. P. Shadwick, the Jaguars senior reporter.

Speaker 1 (13:24):
The Broncos had such a great performance against the Packers
defense last week. Anthony Campanila comes off that Packers tree.
How do you think he adapts this defense to do
a better job against BONNICKX and the Broncos than his
mentor Jeff Affley did.

Speaker 5 (13:40):
Ye.

Speaker 3 (13:40):
It's tough, right, I mean, because bo Nicks likes to
move around and likes to be mobile and then active
outside the pocket and do all those things. And okay,
that's that's part of the game.

Speaker 2 (13:52):
I know that's coming.

Speaker 3 (13:53):
So they got to be disciplined in their rush lanes
and time the blitzer is properly and from the right angles,
and don't get out of your lane, you know, just
stay where you're supposed to be, trust that everybody else
is going to be in the same spot. And I
think that's the approach for Botnicks this week. Now, this
is like we said before, this is not a pass
rush that gets home before. Usually they when they've been successful,

(14:14):
they have to bring a little pressure. And they've had
Devin Lloyd at the linebacker spot that's really stepped in
there and played big at times in the pass rush game.
He kind of gets up on the line occasionally Jennis
Gardeck to another guy that could recavoc in the backfield,
another linebacker, but they kind of stand him up on
the end spot sometimes. So those guys are going to

(14:34):
be active and key to not let him break loose
because we've seen the numbers, right. If both Nicks doesn't
get a lot of pressure, right, you know, not a
lot of sacks or any of that.

Speaker 2 (14:44):
But when there is pressure.

Speaker 3 (14:46):
On him, is completion percentage is like twenty or twenty
five percent lower than normal. So I think that's the key.
Just just hit him, hammer him, pressure him all day
and then he'll throw you a couple. That's the eye
I think from the Jags.

Speaker 1 (15:01):
Should be a great matchup. Thanks again so much for
joining us, JP, and I hope you enjoy your time
in Denver.

Speaker 3 (15:08):
Hey man, good to talk to you, guys. Man, have
a great weekend.

Speaker 7 (15:11):
You too, Thank you very much.

Speaker 1 (15:13):
That was JP Shadrick, the Jaguars senior reporter. Again follow
him at JP Shadrick. He's gonna have a lot of
great analysis of this game coming up. We got a
break coming up right here, but when we get back,
I'm going to break down a record of Russell Wilson's
that Bo Nicks might be getting set to break and
does it say more about Bo Knicks or this Broncos

(15:35):
team that's coming up next?

Speaker 5 (15:37):
On KOA.

Speaker 1 (15:39):
Sitting alongside me, I got Nick Ferguson, and we got
the best in the business behind the glass, Grant Smith
keeping us on track tonight. Thank you to JP Shadrick
for joining us in the last hour breaking down that
Broncos Jags game, and shout out also to Pete Prisco
for joining us in the first hour to talk about

(16:00):
the Broncos Jacks game as well getting a tremendous insight
on this one. If you missed those interviews or anything
else to do with this show, make sure you're catching it.

Speaker 7 (16:26):
Nick, going into the break.

Speaker 1 (16:28):
I talked about how bo Nicks could potentially break one
of Russell Wilson's records that record the most wins as
a starting quarterback in your first two seasons. Bo is
two wins away from tying the record and three away
from breaking the record, So if they win out he
will be and assuming he doesn't rest that final week,

(16:51):
he will be the sole owner of that record. Right now,
he's tied for second alongside Andrew Luck, Dak Prescott, and
Big Ben. You just passed Dan Marino with the win
over the Packers last week.

Speaker 7 (17:04):
First, I want to ask you, do.

Speaker 1 (17:05):
You think bo Nicks will win two out of these
next three or even three out of three to tie
or break that record?

Speaker 5 (17:12):
Yes?

Speaker 6 (17:13):
I do. Looking at the opponent's coming up, each game
presents his own unique set of challenges, and the way
I look at you got to start with the first
game on Sunday, and the Broncos definitely can win that game.
The Jags do a great job against run, but against
the pass and pressure creating pressure, they really can't do it.

(17:35):
That's not one of their destro shoots. So this is
not a scary defense from a pass rushing standpoint. So
the Broncos get it done and it moves Bow ever
so closer. But I find it's very interesting that you
pull up this particular stat because I know how you
love Russell Wilson, right, I love, Yes, you love Russell Wilson.

(17:58):
But to point out this particular situation and to mention
how close Bo is to tying and breaking this record
that Russell Wilson has I guess as.

Speaker 1 (18:11):
A Bronco correct Russell Wilson started his career in Seattle.

Speaker 6 (18:17):
Yes, So with that being said, it's almost as though
you are low key saying it, but not saying like
somewhat validating some of what Russell was able to do.

Speaker 5 (18:29):
Earlier in his career.

Speaker 7 (18:30):
Certainly. And here's the thing.

Speaker 1 (18:32):
I don't love Russell Wilson in Denver, but Russell Wilson
is going to have a case for the Hall of
Fame and it's because of what he did in Seattle.

Speaker 5 (18:40):
I listen, I don't even think it's a case.

Speaker 6 (18:42):
To me, you need to book it, stamping and ship
it right, because there's no way that anyone could argue
and say, well, Eli Manning is Call of Fame worthy.

Speaker 2 (18:53):
Right.

Speaker 5 (18:54):
If you're going to say that, then Russe is then.

Speaker 7 (18:56):
Oh you won't catch me defending Eli Manning. I'm going
to be sick.

Speaker 1 (18:59):
And when he met I already know he's going to
get into Canton and the idea of it, a guy
who had two years in his entire career where he
was a top ten quarterback and we're going to put
him in It's crazy to me. Russell Wilson is ten
times more deserving than Eli Manning. I fully agree with
you there, but to my point, or I guess, to
the impressiveness of this record, Russell Wilson.

Speaker 7 (19:20):
Was awesome his first two years in the league.

Speaker 1 (19:22):
He got really his first ten but those two years
in particular, you know, gets Seattle to the playoffs his
first year. Year two is when he thumps the Broncos
unfortunately in the Super Bowl and gets his Super Bowl ring.
And you look at the other names that Bo is
now clustered with, Right, he just passed Dan Marino, no
doubt about it.

Speaker 7 (19:40):
A Hall of Famer. I'm pretty sure he was first ballot.

Speaker 1 (19:43):
He is now tied with Andrew Luck, who you know,
rose the Titanic in Indianapolis. And maybe we'd be having
a Hall of Fame conversation with him if he didn't
retire early. Dak Prescott, he's been a second team All
Pro quarterback in his run, and Big Ben Roethlisberger also
probably makes the Hall of Fame. So Bo Nicks being

(20:04):
in this rarefied air, is that saying more about bow
Knicks and maybe what his future career will will turn
out being. Maybe he'll be one of these great quarterbacks
like a Marino, like a Luck, like a Prescott, like
a Russell Wilson, Or or is this saying more about
this incredible Broncos team and the surroundings. Is this not

(20:27):
really so much a quarterback stat or a quarterback record
and more about the infrastructure supporting boll Well.

Speaker 6 (20:33):
See you talking to the right person about this, because.

Speaker 7 (20:36):
The founder of the mcgui vergas Well.

Speaker 6 (20:38):
Yeah, of course I don't subscribe to it is mumbo
jumbo about just kind of propping up quarterbacks alone, like
they're the only ones that kind of win games, right,
they don't win games.

Speaker 5 (20:51):
By themselves, just like this isn't tennis, No, it's not.

Speaker 6 (20:54):
And my former coach used to say this all the time,
Herman Edwards, and he talks about Man Drake. See, Man
Drake was to do everything player. He can throw it
and he can catch it, right, and there's not a
single quarterback that can do it. And that's the thing that.

Speaker 5 (21:09):
Kind of sticks in my crawl because.

Speaker 6 (21:12):
Everyone continues to talk about the quarterback, whether it's here
or the other thirty one teams, And it's almost as
though you don't talk about the run game, you don't
talk about.

Speaker 5 (21:21):
The contributions for the defense.

Speaker 6 (21:23):
It's almost as though these guys are won games by themselves. Now,
to answer your question, do I think that Bow can
continue to continue.

Speaker 5 (21:33):
On this upward trajectory.

Speaker 6 (21:35):
Absolutely, But there are a couple of things that need
to be in place, and that starts with once again
run game, because it opens up opportunities for you down
the field.

Speaker 5 (21:43):
And the other part of it are your wide.

Speaker 6 (21:45):
Receivers working constantly to get open for you. Right then
the other thing is will Bow be allowed to continue
to expand on what he's done thus far, because what
we've seen from bow Nicks, I've seen him make plays
from the pocket, but where he's become great is moving

(22:07):
when there's pressure because I don't care. I mean this
offensive line. Pro Football Focus has him ranked as one
of the top offensive lines in the league.

Speaker 5 (22:15):
Kudos to them, hey Clapp.

Speaker 6 (22:18):
But the reason, the number one reason why that's happening
is because number ten, his ability to.

Speaker 5 (22:25):
Invade guys and move. It was on full.

Speaker 6 (22:28):
Display last week against the Green Bay Packers with Michael
Parson in hunt almost like bo hat salami in his underwear,
and Michael Parson was a hungry jaguar or something because
he was given Chase Bow had to move and he
had to play with different arm angles, and we know this,
and I'm.

Speaker 5 (22:47):
Gonna say it.

Speaker 6 (22:47):
I'm always gonna say it because there's this kind of
idea in this narrative that that's not sustainable, that type
of play is not sustainable, But it is and Bo
is displaying.

Speaker 1 (23:00):
And I think people are finally coming around to it
after that performance against the Packers. I just listened to
an interview with Sam Schwarztein, the guy who does all
of Amazon primes analytics for their Prime Vision broadcast and
all that nitty gritty stuff. And something they've rolled out
this year is this pocket health metric that tries to
look at, you know, how affected by the pass rusher

(23:23):
quarterback is. And he talked about when he was implementing
this system, he thought Bo would look terrible in it.
He thought, oh, the slightestentive pressure, Bo's going to be
panicking and melting down and running all over the place
and being too chaotic. And he found that actually Bo
Nicks was one of the best people at managing the
pressure appropriately, not overreacting to it, not underreacting to it

(23:44):
and getting a sack.

Speaker 7 (23:45):
But elevating his line as good as just about anyone
in the league.

Speaker 1 (23:48):
And you look at how good they've Bennett mitigating sacks,
mitigating just quarterback pressures in general.

Speaker 7 (23:55):
A lot of that is Bo Nix.

Speaker 5 (23:56):
He had Micah Parson's running for his life.

Speaker 1 (23:58):
A lot of that game against the past, and you
go against the Jaguars defense that struggle to get home
all year long. I think both's gonna have some pretty
cushion pockets to work with this one.

Speaker 6 (24:07):
He definitely is going to have some cushion pockets. And
I'm glad you brought that up because there's been a
lot of criticism all year long that at the first
sign of pressure, Bowl looks the bail and I'm like, okay,
has any of these individuals played quarterback? And the crazy
part about it is some of the individuals who were

(24:28):
really critical of Bo in these moments were guys.

Speaker 5 (24:31):
Who played the quarterback position.

Speaker 6 (24:33):
And I'm like, well, how many of those guys who
were criticizing had the capabilities that Bo has. And what
I mean by that the ability to escape, the ability
to use your god given footwork to get you out
of bad situations to put you in better situations. Bow
has excelled in doing that, and I think for me,

(24:54):
it's been a collection of things that have helped this
Broncos team get to where they are. Brought up to
mcgabury defense, I'm never gonna change on that. I don't
care who I talk to, who's talking to me, when
when I look at it, that defense is the reason
the Broncos.

Speaker 5 (25:09):
Are where they are. So they're giving ball extra possession
and giving.

Speaker 6 (25:12):
Them time to get their offense all the schedule to
fix figure things out from a play called standpoint, an
execution standpoint. But we're talking about football. We're not talking
about tennis. We're not talking about golf. We're talking about
a unit where you need every single player to every
single position to stand up and stand tall and that

(25:32):
and and that's kind of been the recipe for success
for the Denver Broncos thus far.

Speaker 7 (25:38):
And it's been a fantastic recipe.

Speaker 1 (25:40):
And this gets me to another thing I wanted to
throw at you, Nick, another hot take ahead of this game.

Speaker 5 (25:46):
We're all talking.

Speaker 4 (25:48):
I was.

Speaker 1 (25:48):
I was worried their first second, I thought I was
accidentally playing that I was calling up the.

Speaker 5 (25:52):
Numbers and I was like, what am I doing? He's like,
where's that news.

Speaker 1 (25:55):
Yes, it took me a second, But looking at this,
everyone's been talking about, including me. Admittedly, the Jaguars offense
against this Broncos defense, and that's being built as the
heavyweight fight, the clash of the Titans in this game.
I'm curious this Broncos offense might be better than the
Jaguars offense. And these are the numbers I'm gonna throw
at you to support this. Since the mini buy, which

(26:17):
I think we can all agree is a pretty good
line of demarcation to win, BO started really turning it on.
The Broncos have been a better offense than the Jaguars.
And it's not like the Jaguars have been on some
weird cold streak. This is during the hot streak where
they're supposedly playing their best football of the year. And
I look at EPA per play, which is pretty much

(26:39):
yards with context. As you know, as a defensive player,
it's harder to pick up five yards on third and
three than on third and twenty. On third and twenty,
we'll give you those five yards. EPA per play just
considers those variables. In those metrics, the Broncos rank fifth
in EPA per play just overall, the Jags rank seventh,
the Broncos rank second in EPA per drop back. Bonix

(26:59):
is carving up the league at a higher rate than
anyone outside of Jordan Love over this span. Jags are
also red hot that they rank fourth, the Broncos rank
twentieth and EPA per rush. Getting to what you were
talking about, they're not a great running team, but neither
of the Jaguars over this last month they ranked seventeenth.
So my question to you, Nick, are we overlooking this
Broncos offense? Do they actually have the better attack in

(27:22):
this game?

Speaker 6 (27:25):
They have a better attack because when you look at
the Jags defense, we know they can stop the run,
but from a sex standpoint, they can't impact the quarterback.
And because of that, I look at bo Nick's ability
to be able to push the ball down the field,

(27:46):
whether he stand between the tackles or he's playing outside
on the perimeter, that he's going to be really comfortable
in the pocket being able to deliver the ball down
the field. That's why I would give the Broncos to
nod in this case, because when you look at the
other statistical data, and you would to compare total offense,
pass rush scoring, I mean in red zone, all of

(28:09):
those numbers are almost equivalent to that of the Jackson
Jag boards. I mean we're talking about maybe one or two,
you know, positions in ranking being the difference. But here's
where the rubber meets to row. The Broncos are twelve
in the NFL. Right now, as far as third downs
of concern, when you look at the Jags, the Jags

(28:33):
are twenty fifth.

Speaker 5 (28:34):
Right.

Speaker 6 (28:35):
So statistically we can look at this game and kind
of break it down from that standpoint and say, well,
which team is the better for me? Everything leans and
favors the Denver Broncos, right, And with that being said,
we should look for the score on Sunday to be
more than twenty four Dare I say twenty seven points?

Speaker 2 (28:58):
Right?

Speaker 6 (28:58):
And I look at it this and I know some
people will argument, well, this is not like college football style.

Speaker 5 (29:04):
Points don't matter. I think they do a little.

Speaker 6 (29:08):
In these types of situation, being able to show other
teams when you face quality teams that you can score.

Speaker 5 (29:15):
That now makes you more dangerous. That's now more stuff
they have.

Speaker 6 (29:18):
To prepare for as they try to game from game
playing for you from week.

Speaker 1 (29:21):
To week and this is an important stretch for the Broncos.
We talk about teams getting hot at the right time.
If the Broncos beat the Jags and if they beat
the Chiefs, there's a good chance they're shutting it down
for two and a half weeks or three and a
half weeks up until the divisional round, where you know
they'll rest that that final game of the season, at
least probably for a half of that game if they've

(29:43):
locked up the division, locked up the number one seed.
So you might be looking at, you know, in a
five day span, your last two opportunities to tune up
this offense. You know, work on whatever you want to
work on, and get ready for the elimination games and
the games where your life's on the line every Sunday.

Speaker 6 (30:00):
And for me, the idea is have somewhat of a
commanding lead by starting fast. Were some of those plays
that you wanted to run earlier in the season, but
she never really got to run them because you.

Speaker 5 (30:13):
Were behind in the chains.

Speaker 6 (30:15):
Now if you're heading the chains and your head on
the scoreboard, now you have an opportunity to run some
of those plays.

Speaker 5 (30:20):
Once again, talk about.

Speaker 6 (30:23):
The mental gymnastics forcing your next week's opponent.

Speaker 5 (30:27):
To now think about what else do you have in arsenal.

Speaker 6 (30:30):
This is why it's important for the Broncos to start
off fast and get.

Speaker 5 (30:34):
A commanding lead to start off the game.

Speaker 7 (30:36):
I couldn't agree more Nick.

Speaker 1 (30:39):
Coming up next, we're gonna be joined by another Nick
Nick cosminder, friend of the show from The Athletic. He's
gonna give us insight on the Broncos side of this matchup.
That's all coming up next right here on KOA Broncos
