Speaker 1 (00:05):
Blue Pen Road on News Radio six hundred Cogo always
live on the iHeartRadio app. We are live in San Diego.
Thank you for tuning in. Good to have you along
with us. It is going to be a fantastic evening
and a fantastic sunset, and it's gonna be a great weekend.
And many people are going to Super Bowl parties, watching

(00:25):
events or having people at the house. Some are going
to local bars and pubs, but not in San Clementy.
A lot of places in San Clementy actually will close
on Sunday because everybody wants to watch the game for themselves. Now,

(00:46):
there's plenty of places to eat and watch the game
in San Clementy, but a number of restaurants are literally
shutting the shop and saying, hey, we're gonna go watch
our boy Sam Donald win the Super Bowl for San Clementy.
The quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks is Sam Donald. Sam
Donald went to San Clementy High School. Sam High School,

(01:06):
my wife went to by the Way and was a
star there. And then he went to USC and was
a star there. And now he is about to be
a star in the Super Bowl. And the folks up
in Orange County could not be more thrilled.

Speaker 2 (01:30):
San Clemente, California, the hometown of Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Donald,
is showing strong support for their former high school star.
Ahead of Super Bowl sixteen.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
The high school.

Speaker 2 (01:40):
Raised a banner outside the building with a picture of him,
saying home of Sam Darnald. Residents there are even referring
to the town as sam Clemente instead of San Clemente.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
Oh did you catch that? They're calling it sam Clemente.
But the anchor wanted to make sure you understood, you know,
the twist on words.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
Sam Clemente, sam Clemente instead of San Clemente.

Speaker 1 (02:08):
Right, because it's actually San Clente. Sa n. That's so good.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
Sam Clemente instead of San Clemente.

Speaker 3 (02:21):
Out sam Clemente shows that this is a special place
for special people, and Sam is a great example of
what the town can produce.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
Head of the matchup against the Patriots, Darnold return home
to gift Super Bowl tickets to local families in a
show of gratitude.

Speaker 1 (02:37):
Wow, I didn't know anything about that. I didn't see
him handing out any tickets in Orange County. Well, look,
it's a lot of fun having somebody so local be
in such a high profile position, especially if you're a
fan of the National Football League and you see the
way some of these quarterbacks just have to hit a rhythm.

(02:59):
He had a rocky start in that a lot of teams.
He was drafted right out of USC to the Jets
and that didn't go well. Then down to the Panthers
that didn't go well. That he was backing up Rock Party,
who nobody thought Rock Party was any good. Then to
the Vikings. I thought he did great, but the Vikings didn't.

(03:22):
And now he is taking the Seattle Seahawks to the
super Bowl and it's gonna be a great game. So
they do all week. I mean, everybody in Santa Clara
is going crazy. This is like their New Year's Eve, Christmas,
Fourth of July all wrapped up into one. The whole week,
they're doing press conferences, they're doing media appearances. They are

(03:42):
having a lot of fun. What I love is when
they let the young kids come in and talk to
the players, especially some of these young kids that really
are into football. My boys are really into football. I
mean they know stats. I told you the story of
my Sun when he got in trouble and I had
to take away his phone for thirty days. He used

(04:06):
the opportunity to figure out the Vegas lines on paper.
He was using my Prize Picks accounts, but now he
couldn't use my Prize Pick account, so he figured out
like all the odds and was like an old school
bookie for a week, which I think is a huge
use of time. And my youngest is a quarterback and

(04:27):
they just live and breathe football, so they just love
like the backstory and all of it. And there are
a lot of kids like that. I mean, you'd be
amazed of especially with Madden, which is one of the
video games that they all play, and they all just
absorb stats and backstory. And with social media and those iPads,

(04:51):
they were able to look up things and watch old
footage and if you're into it, you can really get
into it in a way that we never could as kids,
Like we had to wait for the sports page to
come out to read stats, and you had to wait
for the games to be played and maybe they'd be highlights.
But like now you can go back and watch any

(05:11):
game anytime, or watch somebody do analysis, and so the
young kids are a lot of fun and they let
the young kids go up to Sam Donald and ask questions,
and because he's so cool, he takes the questions from
the kids. So you've been through a lot in your career.

Speaker 4 (05:26):
What advice do you have for young athletes to talk
about on their dreams.

Speaker 5 (05:30):
Yeah, I would say just believe in yourself.

Speaker 1 (05:32):
And have fun.

Speaker 5 (05:33):
I think the biggest thing is to just have fun
throughout the whole process, and that's it.

Speaker 1 (05:38):
As long as you're having fun, he'll be great. Isn't
that cool? I love it. I love when he takes questions.
I love when any celebrity athlete does this. But there's
something about Donald that is real, genuine, like he really
loves talking to the kids. He loves talking to young players.
He spends a lot of time in Orange County with

(06:00):
high schools. His dad is a retired law enforcement officer
and goes to the hype, goes to the elementary schools
and talks about drugs like he's one of those guys.
He's gone to my son's elementary school. Matt Darnold, officer,
Matt Olicer.

Speaker 5 (06:18):
Mike Rogers say, is the coolest part about playing in
the Super Bowl. Coolest part about playing in the Super
Bowl probably talking to you guys right now, Yeah, I
think that's pretty cool.

Speaker 1 (06:28):
How about that? How cool is that? I just think
that's awesome. So that's great. I mean I was not
a Seahawks fan, their division rival of my favorite team,
so we'll see. I don't see myself rooting for the Patriots,
although the Patriots have a great story too, and both

(06:49):
quarterbacks are with like their high school sweethearts. Effectively, just
a lot of a lot of fun times ahead for
the Super Bowl. But now that, I mean, it's my
wife's alma mater, at least the high school is. And
I mean everybody in Newport Beach up in Orange County

(07:12):
went to USC. It's a requirement. I don't think you're
allowed to buy a house in Newport Beach without having
a degree from USC. And he will be the first
USC graduate quarterback ever to appear in a Super Bowl,
So that's pretty good. All time favorite quarterback.

Speaker 5 (07:40):
I gotta go Tom Brady, Yeah, no, he's I grew
up a big Tom Brady fan, so just watching him,
just the way that he went about his business. He
was so locked into his job and what he had
to do every single day, and I think that's what
I appreciated about him.

Speaker 1 (07:53):
Great question, Bud, Great question, Bud. I love it, love it,
love it, love it. Sam Donald, San Clementy, California in
the Big Game on Sunday.

Speaker 4 (08:04):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (08:04):
I like when they do this, They do the A
B Test. This is where they ask you try just
a human interest to try and figure out what you
like what you don't like. First question dunkin Donuts or Starbucks.
The next one in and out or shake shack and out, surfing,
skiing or surfing, tupac or Biggie. That's a dumb question.

(08:33):
I would have said led Zeppelin. Mexican Mexicans, tacos, tacos,
they gotta go tacos, seafood or Mexican. One is a
type of food, the other is an ethnicity. Who is
that reporter? Toss it back to the kids. They ask
better questions. Louke Penrose on news Radio six hundred co
go live on the iheartradiolu Penrose on news Radio six

(09:00):
und cogo always live on the iHeartRadio app talking about
the Big Game on Sunday and the hometown hero at
least for Southern California, is from San Clementi.

Speaker 6 (09:12):
Any lou wouldn't it have been great if Donald had
said my favorite Mexican food or seafood is both fish tacos.
That would have quieted made a laugh out of something
that was so such, Like you said, it's such a
stupid question when you mix type of food with ethnicity. Anyway,

(09:35):
love your show boy.

Speaker 1 (09:36):
I appreciate the call. Eight hundred six hundred cogo eight hundred,
six hundred and five six four six.

Speaker 3 (09:41):
Sorry, Louz, spoiler, there is a segment of your audience
that doesn't get into football and or the stupid I
repeat stupid Bowl, no interest, no concern, don't care, and
especially with that idiot.

Speaker 1 (09:55):
Bad bunny in the halftime.

Speaker 3 (09:56):
Come on, please go out there, knock your head around,
get some braindownage and have a beer. All right, lou
your choice, your call, and I hope you enjoy whatever
you get.

Speaker 1 (10:05):
Bye. Dam I appreciate the call. I think you're right.
I don't think anybody should be talking about the Super Bowl.
I think that's ridiculous. Nobody cares about the Super Bowl.
You know what people really care about the recall effort
in Lemon Grove. Now, there was a recall effort in
Lemon Grove. They tried to recall the mayor in Lemon
grow big story. Now, they failed to get the signatures,

(10:29):
so the recall effort fail. But the people that want
to recall the mayor of Lemon Grove, they still want
them recall, so they're gathering signatures again. So what we
need to do is change everything around here. We shouldn't
talk about things that nobody is paying attention to, like
the Super Bowl, and we should get on the mayor

(10:50):
of Lemon Grove because that's fascinating radio. But I appreciate
the call. Hey, blind people will be able to watch
a super Bowl on Sunday.

Speaker 4 (11:01):
Now, the Big Game this weekend will be hosting some
special guests. They're fans who are seeing impaired to varying degrees,
and they're getting a chance to experience the NFL's championship
in a novel way. The NFL is teaming up with
both Ticketmaster and One Court to provide these fans with
a hands on device that allows them to feel the

(11:22):
Big Game. It's a little bigger than a tablet and
has a representation of the gridiron.

Speaker 1 (11:26):
Yeah, so they're gonna hand people. This is fascinating to me.
I mean, eventually everybody will be fine. They will. There
will be If Elon Musk doesn't fix everything, then there
will be technology out there where people will be able
to experience activity and without sight. I don't know what's happening.

(11:49):
I thought that what happened to the eyeglasses that LeVar
Burton was wearing in the New Star Trek. Remember he
was on the Enterprise, but he couldn't see, which I
thought was an odd choice, But I mean, you're in space.
I think sight is kind of important. I think it's
important when they decide who's going to be the pilots

(12:09):
of the F sixteen. But he couldn't see, and he
had those special glasses on. Remember LeVar Burton had those glasses.
Mister Finnity and the New Star.

Speaker 7 (12:17):
Trek, I'll be honest, I'd never really watched the New
Star Treks can watch it.

Speaker 1 (12:21):
I'm not a treker. No, I was in a trekye
really either. I was only a trekye after I went
to college. I was watching The Honeymooners while everybody else
was watching Star Trek. But at around eleven thirty, you
need to take a study break in the dorms and
you need to get food, and so you either have
to go up to the main door of the dormitory
and wait for your food to be delivered, or if

(12:43):
you just hang out in the lounge, which is on
the first floor, somebody's already ordered pizza and they're not
going to finish it, so that would be a good time.
And Star Trek starts at eleven thirty and so I
would just overhear it. You're not allowed to talk while
Star Trek is on. If you've ever been in the
room of people that watched Star Trek, yeah, yeah, not

(13:03):
a lot to talk at all. And so I started
to realize that Star Trek is political science. Like everything
about the way Kirk run ran that bridge was basic
poly sign It really was. I was I was a student.
I was in college and I was studying political science
and I didn't realize that Roddenberry, it was a political

(13:26):
science guy. It was all about power and influence and
hegemity and spheres of influence and standard operating procedure. I mean,
everything that they did was military and political science. So
I started getting into it. But you know, it only
lasted like two seasons. I mean, how long did was
that run on NBC? So they had the new Star Trek.

(13:47):
I was told it was very good. I didn't get
into it. I don't like foreign accents in my Americana,
and but I did like that the You know, LeVar
Burton had a great career. He started as Kuta kin
the young Kuta Kinte on ABC and now here he
is on NBC in the Starfleet, and somewhere along his

(14:10):
career lost his site. But he was given these special
glasses that allowed him to see images, and that was
science fiction, and now it's actually happening for the Super Bowl.
I just think that's great. It's absolutely amazing.

Speaker 4 (14:25):
That allows them to feel the big game. It's a
little bigger than a tablet and has a representation of
the gridiron. Different vibration patterns will signify different plays and
even pinpoint the location of the football. And these fans
will be guided through the game by listening to the radiocas.

Speaker 1 (14:42):
What wait, how are they listening to the game?

Speaker 4 (14:45):
And these fans will be guided through the game by
listening to the radio broadcast.

Speaker 1 (14:50):
I thought everything was podcast I thought it was all
about podcasts. I thought we all had to have a podcast.
I thought, yeah, loud do the radio show, but make
sure you promote the podcast. Thought everything was about the podcast.
I thought we had a we had to inspire everybody
to call their congressman to keep AM radio in cars
so we could tell them to download the free iHeartRadio
app and listen to a podcast. I thought podcasting was

(15:13):
the future. What do you know about that? You mean
you can't let.

Speaker 4 (15:22):
Right?

Speaker 1 (15:23):
Isn't it all about the podcast? That's all we talk
about is podcasting, the podcast. Got to get the podcast,
download the podcast, go to the podcast, listen to the
new podcast. And the solution. But these blind people is
AM Radio broadcast.

Speaker 4 (15:36):
These fans will be guided through the game by listening
to the radio broadcast. Evan Brown Fox News.

Speaker 1 (15:43):
I think even Evan Brown caught the irony there, you know,
because you don't do news on a podcast, you got
to actually listen to it live on this which we
call a broadcast. Oh that's beautiful, absolutely all right, score
yet another point for live radio. Can't replace it, can't

(16:05):
pre record it. And what you're listening to on a
podcast already happened, and you can't call into a podcast.
So hooray for me job security. All right, when we
come back, I got another liberal white woman update. They
now are concerned. They don't like the fact that boomers
are retiring with a house in equity and they can't

(16:25):
buy a house, and they're complaining about it on social media.
Too funny. I'll share it with you. Coming up next,
Louke Penrose on news Radio six hundred co Go Live
on the iHeartRadio app. Lou Penrose on news Radio six
hundred co Go. Today's giveaway. I'm there of tickets to
see Tedesky Truck Fan the Tedesky Trucks Fan with special

(16:47):

Gonna be so good. Tickets and ticket information for Tedesky

(17:08):
six hundred Cogo eight hundred, six hundred and five six
four six, calling number six picks up the tickets. Good luck,
Tedsky Trucks Band like Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, but with better music.

Speaker 2 (17:25):
Mister lou don't forget he was also on Reading Rainbow.

Speaker 1 (17:29):
I used to watch that. Yeah, LaVar Burton did take
a time out from dramatic acting to do Reading Rainbow.
I just remember he was in the New Star Trek
and he had on that apparatus. He was blind since birth,
which is amazing because he could see during roots. But
he must have lost his site somewhere in his career

(17:51):
and he had to wear that thing on his face
and it didn't restore his sight, but it it like
it puts sensory into his directly into his brain through
his eyes. And that's effectively what they're doing now for
the for the blind people to watch the Super Bowl.
And I just think technology is going to get better
and better and better so and they won't have to

(18:14):
wear that thing on their face. Hey, gen Z are
upset with a statement President Trump made. Now, I support
what President Trump said. It like most things that Trump says,
it's not always clear. I always understand what he's saying,
but that's just because I feel like I speak his language,

(18:37):
and some people on purpose pretend to not understand what
he's saying. But he was talking about housing prices and
he said, look, those of you that are homeowners I'm
not going to do anything that's going to cause the
value of your home to go down. Right, if you
own a house, you don't want policy that causes your
home values to go down. You want your home value

(18:59):
to go up. Why wouldn't you? Why would you buy
a house and watch it drop in value? Why would
you support policies? Why would any president want a policy
like they are two separate things. To make sure that
home values maintain or appreciate and create conditions in which
people can buy a home are I mean you can

(19:23):
do both at the same time. Well, a lot of
gen Z people hurt President Trump say that, and they
get offended. They think that while all these boomers are
going to retire with a house and then sell it
and take five hundred thousand dollars of equity tax free,
buy themselves a little retirement cottage, and I'm never going

(19:44):
to be able to buy a house with this president.
So they have it all wrong.

Speaker 8 (19:48):
I know several young men right now in their mid
twenties who are living at home. They have full time jobs.
The rest of us are living in apartments. I get
married in four months. We are not buying a I
saw someone on Twitter call this permanent adolescence.

Speaker 1 (20:03):
That's exactly what it is.

Speaker 4 (20:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (20:04):
So here's a woman. She's gone viral on social media.
She says that because of Trump's policies, she's never going
to buy a house. So I don't know who you
hang out with. I don't know any men that are
living with their parents with full time jobs. By the way,
that's not a terrible strategy. I do know women with

(20:25):
full time jobs who are living with their parents while
they are saving money for a down payment for a house.
Not a terrible strategy. A lot of people that have
many children and now are empty nesters, have empty bedrooms.
So some of them are saying, why sell the house.
I wouldn't be able to afford the property taxes on

(20:46):
the new house. I'll just keep this house. And if
my daughter wants to move in while her and her
fiance or her and her husband are saving for a house,
like that's not a terrible idea. So if a man
wants to do that, that's not foolish. I don't think
I would like doing that. I think you need to

(21:06):
be in your own space. I think if you're a
single guy, you need to be living with other guys
and splitting the rent and saving money. But that's just me.
I would not look down upon a guy that said, Hey,
I'm going to live in my old bedroom and not
pay rent and have my mom do the laundry and
eat what's in the fridge and have a lot of

(21:28):
money until I'm ready to buy my own place. Not
a terrible idea. So I don't know why she's shaming
these single guys, but whatever, and it's going to get worse.

Speaker 8 (21:36):
Donald Trump just said he wants people that already own
homes to see their home values go up.

Speaker 1 (21:42):
Right, stop, absolutely, I want my president to want me
my house to go up in value. That's exactly right,
Like why does that bother you? Why can't my house appreciate?
I would start to get nervous if it didn't, Like,
how does that affect your life?

Speaker 8 (22:00):
Just said he wants people that already own homes to
see their home values go up. That's sounding a lot
like I will never own a home. And we enriched
boomers and gen xers at the expense of gen Z.
We are severing our ability to leave nest.

Speaker 1 (22:15):
Okay, she has it completely right. First off, did she
say she was getting married in four months? Whoever you are.
Do not marry this girl. Do not marry this girl.
Do not put a ring on that finger. Lose the deposit.
If you have to call off the wedding, postpone until
she grows up. This is not a keeper. Do not

(22:40):
marry this girl. This most stupidest logic. So if people
invest in a home, live in their investment. Watch their
home appreciate because they took very good care of it.
Or they were such upstanding members of society that the
community around them appreciated. Or they were so wise to

(23:04):
make the sacrifices to buy in an area, location, location, location,
They were so wise that they made the sacrifices to
buy in an area that would always be valuable, you know,
like where I live on the good side of the
five right, Like, why are you holding it against them?
It doesn't take money away from you. So instead of saying, look,

(23:29):
while boomers are retiring with all kinds of wealth, I
can't buy a house, here's four letters for you. Movemov
If you can't afford to live where you want to live,
you can move. What is wrong with moving? People do move?

(23:49):
People are moving like crazy out of California, Illinois and
New York two more. I mean, I don't know if
they're prosperous. They're moving for opportunity to have a better
quality of life. We're there too. Your house will appreciate
like your parents.

Speaker 8 (24:10):
Why do you think people are having kids so late?
I'm a capitalist, but I will tell you this is
exactly why democratic socialist figures like Zoron Mondannie are gaining
so much popularity, because at least someone is listening to us.

Speaker 1 (24:22):
Okay, so I don't know what kind of capitalists you are.
You sound like a very lazy capitalist. You are a
capitalist when you make money, you are not interested in
doing the work it takes to actually be a functioning capitalist.
It's easy to be a philosophical capitalist. That means that
you own the means of production, you work as hard
as you want, you don't want government regulations stifling you,

(24:45):
and you want to be able to sell it to
the highest bidder. That all sounds great. You know what
makes that happen effort. You've got to work to make
capitalism work for you. It's not enough to just be
a capitalist. You have to act like a ca capitalist
and saying this is the reason that you're in love
with Zorn, who is going to take away your opportunity,

(25:08):
take away your parents opportunity, or tax them so much
that they won't be able to keep any of their
equity that it won't be worth buying a house for
you or for them.

Speaker 8 (25:19):
The future I think a lot of us see for
ourselves is that we continue to live in boxes. AI
replaces all of our jobs and we have to live
off some stimmy check from the government.

Speaker 1 (25:29):
That's the league. Yeah, and that's what Zorron is promising.
No job. I like. So it's a nickname now, a
stimmy check. What the stimulus check? You think you're going
to get a stimulus check for your whole life? You
know what it would require we capitalists to produce and
show a profit and pay taxes for you to get
a stimmy check to live in a box. So take

(25:54):
a second look at you're Adam Smith and forget about Zorn.
I don't marry this girl. Lou Penrose on news Radio
six hundred co Go live on the iHeartRadio app Conway
Larson followed the program weeknights at six Lou Penrose on
News Radio six hundred COGO. They repealed the comic book

(26:19):
ban of nineteen forty nine.

Speaker 9 (26:21):
Leaders in Sacramento have voted to repeal a nineteen forty
nine law that made it illegal to sell or distribute
certain comic books to miners.

Speaker 1 (26:29):
How about that in nineteen forty nine in California, they
got together and said there ought to be a law.
Can't just be selling all comic books to the little ones.
Some material is not appropriate.

Speaker 9 (26:43):
The ordinance, originally aimed at crime themed comics, had gone
unenforced for years, but was still technically on the books.
Local cartoonist Evan Burgoon pushed for the repeal.

Speaker 7 (26:54):
The First Amendment free speech, that's really important in these today.

Speaker 1 (26:58):
And I think on top of that, it was a
that Sacramento loves comics.

Speaker 9 (27:01):
Supporters say removing the outdated rule better reflects modern free
speech values and the city's growing comic and arts community.

Speaker 1 (27:09):
Growing comic and arts community. So they didn't want little
kids reading about the criminal element as much. Uh, wasn't
Dick Tracy Like what I mean, isn't he a crime fighter?
He's a destructive Yeah, going here to bad guys. So
this was a way to not make the bad guys

(27:32):
as what h like feared like, they don't want the
little kids to see the bad guys. I'm trying to
figure out because every comic book has a bad guy.
I understand that when you got into superheroes, the bad
guys were also supernatural, so they were fantasy bad guys

(27:54):
like mister Freeze doesn't really exist, but Batman had to
battle him and Bizarrow. Superman didn't really exist, and Superman
didn't really exist. But you needed a bad guy in
order for a good guy to be good. But I
guess when you think about the first the George Reeves
Superman character, those Superman in Black and White episodes, he

(28:16):
was always fighting earthly bad guys like criminals. That's why
they were always they always had a handgun and the
bullet would bounce off his chest. You never saw that
in the latter day Superman episodes, like nobody even wanted
to pull a gun on Superman. Why. So that's interesting,
And the rationale is because free speech is important in Sacramento.

(28:37):
So that's amazing to me. The original law was to
protect children, and they decided, you know, free speech is
more important than protecting children from adult themes. That's classic
Sacramento for you. I didn't I know that we are
the home of comic Con, at least for now. Wait
till the folks who come in for comic Con recognize

(28:58):
that they're gonna have to pay for parking. May not
be the home for comic com very long, but I
know that, Like, we're a big comic book place. But
is comic books, like, is that a growing thing among
adults or is there just a solid subset of adults
that still enjoy the comic book thing, because I've never

(29:20):
been able to figure out if that's growing, shrinking, or stabilized,
Like are there people that just secretly like comic books.
I had a friend when I was a kid who
collected comic books. He would get comic books every week,
and literally it was one of these guys that would
go to the comic book store and get special bags,
plastic bags that were I don't know, acid proof or

(29:41):
had acid in them or something about them that kept
the comic book in the most pristine condition you could
for longevity, and had like special file cabinets because you
couldn't put it in like a metal file cabinet, or
you weren't supposed to, or they had to be in
most plastic bags first. And I remember asking him what
do you say in these comic books for? And he

(30:01):
kept telling me how valuable they were going to be
in the future, like, you know, if Aquaman dies or
if the cover says Aquaman dies but he doesn't really die.
It was a teaser of a cover that's gonna be
very valuable. And I'll bet he still has them. Like
what good are they if you don't cash them in?
Like things aren't Things aren't valuable if they're just valuable

(30:24):
and you hold on to them. Things are only valuable
when you hand them to somebody that gives you cash
for them. So I could never figure out the whole.
I gotta keep these, They're valuable argument for the comic books.
