Speaker 2 (00:48):
I am none of those names, but this is still
Green Legion Radio.

Speaker 3 (00:52):
Right here on Fox Sports The Gambler. No Quimby today.
I don't know where Quimby is. I don't know what
Quimby did last night. I don't know what Quimby's doing today.
But Quimby is not here, So let's leave that up
to the imagination. Where is Quimby? Nobody knows? Can anybody guess?

(01:12):
I don't think anybody can Quimby. He might not even
be in the United States. He might be overseas somewhere.
I have no idea, but all I know is he's
not on the show today, but still I'm here John Jansen,
Fox Sports, The Gambler, Green Legion Radio plenty to go over.
The Phillies are number one in the National League East
after a big win against the Mets last night. Did

(01:35):
it in some fun fashion with Castianos and real Mutos
sliding at the plate almost at the same time.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
But they win big, ten to two.

Speaker 3 (01:43):
All of the concerns I guess in the first week
of June, the first week and a half of June,
when they weren't winning games, is the concern completely gone.
I want to talk about that because I think like
the Phillies are in a great spot even with you've
seen the really good and they're really bad so far,
and I think now we have a pretty clear picture

(02:04):
of exactly what this baseball team is at this point
and what that could potentially mean, obviously as they have
championship aspirations. So we do have some Phillies on deck.
Also the Eagles. Do you want to get into some birds?
It is Green Legion Radio. There's been a lot of
talk about the Eagles. Maybe they didn't improve. I think

(02:26):
that they maybe did, even though they lost a lot
of talent, it's going to look a little bit different.
I still think in ways they have improved. There is
some concern about that, and I think I've even seen
like Madden ratings where the Eagles are maybe not even
rated as highly as they would have been. They lost
a lot, but still I don't think that means they

(02:47):
got worse. Also, as Bailey another head case that could
potentially be joining the Sixers.

Speaker 2 (02:53):
We'll have some fun with that one.

Speaker 1 (02:54):
Then.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
Also quarterback rankings.

Speaker 3 (02:56):
There wereas quarterback rankings that came out from Yahoo, a
great writer Charles McDonald, and of course Jalen Hurts is
not in the top ten. So people got mad, very mad.
The city, the entire city of Philadelphia got mad. So
I want to talk about that as well. But let's
start with the Phillies. That is first and foremost. They're
number one in the National League East, and as I
just mentioned, they have gone through this month of June.

(03:20):
We've seen probably the worst of the Phillies and we
have probably seen the best of them in this month.
And we still have like a week to go in
this month, but we've seen the best in the worst.
We've seen the starting rotation get hit up a little bit.
We've seen their lineup not hit at all, some guys regressing,
Kyle Schuber regressing a little bit, the bottom of the

(03:41):
lineup not doing well. But then in the last about
week and a half now of the month, maybe a
little bit more than that, they're hitting probably the best
they ever have.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
They're starting.

Speaker 3 (03:51):
Pitching has probably been the best that it's ever had
has been so far this season. The bullpen still not great,
but I would say good, I would not even say good.
Miserable at times, but they're working with it and they're
able to work through it.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
But we've seen kind of the best and worst.

Speaker 3 (04:08):
And I think now once you start getting into June
twenty first you're starting to get into July, the All
Star break is looming. We've been hearing a lot of
you know, maybe shutting down Bryce Harper or the All
Star break. You know, when you're close to the All
Star break and you're like, yeah, just let a player
ride out an injury and we'll get there afterwards. So
it's almost All Star break time, which means All Star break.
After that comes trade deadline and then you're pretty much there.

(04:31):
But I think at this point you understand what you
are and the type of season that you are having,
and the Phillies to me, are in a pretty damn
good spot. And it's not just because they're number one
of the National League East. It's not because that they
are I think third record. I think it's Detroit, the Dodgers,
and then the Phillies. I would have said this even

(04:56):
in the beginning of June, and now with just the
clear picture and everything that we know, they are in
a phenomenal spot. They are clearly one of the top
three to five teams in baseball. They are a clear contender.
Their lineup can rank anywhere from fifth to tenth I
think this season, which is phenomenal. They might have the

(05:17):
best starting rotation in baseball. And the one concern is,
and I think we all knew this coming into the season,
it got even worse ones all, Jose Alvarado got suspended,
and even worse now that they don't seem to have
any answers outside of Jose Alvarado to kind of help them.
Ryan Kirkering has stepped up, but really that's the only one.
The bullpen has some problems, But again, you know what

(05:44):
kind of season you were having and who you are.
But this still doesn't mean it's the final picture. At
this point, the Phillies are great. They're getting probably the
best season trade Turner is going to have as a
Philly is happening this year. Some of the numbers he
has put up in the month of June, and even
I think in the month of May, like the past

(06:06):
over a month and a half. Now I would say
maybe over two months. He had a bad start, but
Trey Turner has been fairly good, and not just fairly good.
He's been the type of player that you expect to
get when you spend about three hundred million dollars on him.
So in the month of May he was up to
an eight thirty five OPS. In the month of June

(06:28):
up to a nine to twenty six OPS. He's had
four home runs and each month, still have a week
to go in June still, but he has four home
runs in the month of June, four home runs in May,
so the power is getting a little bit better. So
nine home runs I think ties him near the lead.
I think cassianis now is second, but it's Kyle Schwarber

(06:51):
and it was just really bad home run numbers after that.
But they're starting to get a little bit more power
out of Trey Turner, which is absolutely necessary because this
team does not slug very well. They don't have a
lot of power, especially without Bryce Harper. But Trey Turner
has been excellent. He's been really good again. Career year
from Trey Turner as a Philly, It's not gonna be

(07:12):
a career year for him, but in his Phillies career,
this is likely going to be his best season. That
checks off a box. One of your best players is
having one of his best seasons. He's thirty ninth in
ops overall, He's tied fifteenth in average at three to
zero two. The guy's doing great defensively. I think we

(07:34):
notice it because there is such an emphasis on his
defensive play because it has been bad. He's been one
of the worst shortstops defensively in all of baseball. But
if you'll isolate just this season compared to the rest
of his seasons as a Philly, this is the best
he has played defensively too. So Trey Turner's been great,

(07:57):
and not just great, He's been All Star caliber, you know,
really great baseball player.

Speaker 2 (08:04):
So that's amazing to get.

Speaker 3 (08:06):
You get kylein Schwarber still and these are some of
the questions that I had. So I'm going through some
of these players knowing that I had some questions about
what they.

Speaker 2 (08:13):
Were going to be heading into this season.

Speaker 3 (08:16):
Trey Turner wasn't sure if he was ever going to
get to this caliber of play again. I trusted the talent,
but maybe as he's getting older, the talent's just diminishing
to a point where the ceiling maybe isn't as high
as it used to be, and he couldn't get close
to what he was doing with the Nationals and the Dodgers.
He's getting pretty darn close to that, and if he

(08:36):
continues this trend upwards, his ops and everything are going
to catch up to some of his best years when
he was with Washington and Los Angeles.

Speaker 2 (08:45):
But also I had some questions.

Speaker 3 (08:47):
Might sound weird now because he's having a phenomenal season,
but Kyle Schwarber was putting up some pretty wild numbers.
For Kyle Schwarburn, especially the home run numbers were well
above what he was in Chicago and what he's been
through most of his career. We know, really talented. And
when Kyle Shuber's hot, he was great and his power

(09:09):
was great, But he was really consistent over the last
couple of years with the Phillies, and I wasn't sure
if how long that consistency couldn't last. If Kyle Schuerber
again was able to put up another year with like
forty six home runs, which I think he has been
on the dot with in the last couple of seasons,
and also keep his OPS close to like an eight

(09:31):
fifty low eight hundreds or around an eight fifty, which
he had last year. I thought that may have been
the best year he ever had. His Affhilly was last
year a fifty one OPS, thirty eight home runs. He
had forty seven in twenty twenty three, forty six and
twenty twenty two, so the power numbers went down a
little bit, but he got on base more and so

(09:52):
then ends up in an a fifty one OPS. So
it was like, that's maybe the best we'll see out
of Shoreber started hitting left handed pitching really well that
year last year, and there were a lot of great changes.
But baseball is not a linear sport. You don't just
keep going up and up and up and up. You
trend in different directions, and I thought, maybe you know
what this is year he could struggle a bit. He's

(10:14):
been the best player on the team this year. Nine
to eight OPS already has twenty three home runs this season,
a five thirty one slugging, which is by far the
best so far he's had an a Phillies uniform. So
not only did the power numbers not go down, they
went up significantly and they needed it because they're slugging

(10:35):
as a team is not very good. So the fact
that Kyle Schwarver is able to have his best year
slugging amazing to get so, Kyle Schwarber's having a great year.
Trey Turner is having a great year, probably again two
of the best years they will have as a Philly.
Then the problem became, especially in the beginning of the year,
was the bottom of the lineup, like the middle bottom
five through nine. But now that Castianis has been good,

(10:59):
Brandon Marshall has been good, Alec Bom is starting to
hit well and moving up in the lineup. Max Kepler's
giving them some good at bats now, Bryson Stott is
getting a lot better. So now the bottom of the
lineup looks good. And I had some questions about that
I have been I maybe coming into the year was
more down on the Phillies than most. I thought wildcard team.

(11:24):
You're around hovering around eighty eight wins, close to ninety
whatever it would take to get that wild card, and
that's that's where the Phillies were going to lie somewhere
in the season. And they've been much better than that.
And they're doing it again with I think some of
their best players having their best years. And they're doing

(11:47):
this largely now in the past two weeks without their
best player in Bryce Harper. So the lineup's good. I
know there's been a lot of questions about needing an
extra bat and what are you going to do in
the outfield and center field again, I don't know if
you can totally rely on Brandon marsh and the numbers
he's put up recently. He's up down to a seven
thirty six OPS. That'll play. If that's what he's gonna be,

(12:10):
I'll take that in center field all day. I don't
need I don't need a I don't think they need
to go out and try and grab a guy who's
above like an eight hundred ozh PS to try and
fill that center field void, or what if you're going
to trade for somebody in the outfield. Mainly, the kind
of players that they are going to look for are

(12:30):
going to be kind of around where what Brandon Marsh
is and to an extent, kind of what Max Kepler is.
So Max Kepler in the offseason, I know a lot
of people like that's not enough, But I think that's
all that they're maybe willing to get, or just don't

(12:51):
have the money to get, not willing to spend the
money to get, or to trade valuable prospects to get.
The kind of players that you're looking for are sort
of the guys that are putting up the same numbers,
similar numbers to what Max Kepler's doing and to what
Brandon marsh is doing. So you have those guys. You

(13:13):
just needed them to perform, and now they are performing
and performing very well. So the bottom of the lineup,
it's never gonna look perfect. Your bottom of the lineup
always five through nine, six through nine, whatever you want
to put it at, is always going to have problems.
They're six through nine for a reason. They are in

(13:34):
the bottom of the lineup for a reason. They are
not ever going to hit. Bryce Harper numbers, Kyle Schwerber numbers,
Trey Turner numbers. But if you were to ask me
what the kind of threshold what they need to be,
Brandon Marsh, Max Kepler right where you need to be.
And Bryson Scott's getting there too. I think in the
month of Junie, let me check Bryson Scott's numbers, but

(13:55):
I think those are starting to get exactly where they
need to be for a guy that's in the bottom
the line five seventy seven in June. But we have
seen the past few games a little bit more of
a power surge. In the last three games, he had
two hits in three at bats against Miami, and then
the second game against Miami two hits in three at bats,

(14:15):
and then he had a double one hit tour bats
last night against.

Speaker 2 (14:19):
The New York Mets.

Speaker 3 (14:20):
So he's getting better. The OPS is climbing up. It
was the middle of June really that he was having problems.
Once they have started winning, his OPS has gone up
more and more. The lowest he got was six thirty one,
and that's when they started to win, was that game Wednesday,
June eleventh against the Cubs. It has gone up to
six thirty four, six thirty seven to six forty two

(14:41):
six fifty two, six sixty four. So Bryson starts getting
better as well. I think he's the one that concerns
me the most because there was supposed to be improvement,
and the more at bats he gets, the more you
kind of just understand the player that he is, because
we're getting the point with Bryson, there is no, no,

(15:02):
not much more room for improvement. The numbers you have
at this point, with the amount of at bats that
he has kind of are what you are. Like Bryson
Stott now is totaling seventeen hundred at bats in his career.
I mean, once you get past year three, kind of
are what you are. And you were hoping maybe more

(15:24):
of that would be the twenty twenty three version where
he was up to a seven forty seven OPS, a
four point four war, a two to eighty average. That's
the kind of player I that's completely fine. Like I
just said, you're never gonna get guys that are hitting
eight fifty nine hundred OPS is off time you want.
You want to a good, healthy lineup of guys like that,

(15:45):
and Bryson Stott I thought could be that six seventy
one ops last year. So it went down you were hoping, Okay,
which way we're gonna go. Is it gonna be an
uptick or a downtick. So far downtick and he's trending
downward again, so that concerns me.

Speaker 2 (15:58):
A little bit.

Speaker 3 (15:59):
But everywhere across the board, everything looks like all systems
go for the Phillies lineup. So if we have that,
the lineup is performing extremely well. And again from what
happened in the beginning of the beginning of the month
in June, we saw the worst of it and now
we're seeing the best of it. They have hovered around
a top five to top ten lineup in baseball all season long,

(16:22):
so you could safely put them in that category. I
don't think they're going to be too far below that
at any point for the rest of the season, and
in fact, right now, in the past two weeks, they've
been a top five lineup in baseball. It could hover
around five to seven. It's a great lineup, so lineups
championship caliber starting pitching if you look at pitching. Eer overall,

(16:44):
the Phillies are second in baseball for the month of June.
But if you were to go even just specifically with
the relief pitching. They are nineteenth, so starting pitching is
carrying the load. But that's a great thing. I think
if you were to ask me the two most important
things heading into a season, it's how is your lineup?
Especially bottom of the lineup. We have seen there's a

(17:05):
lot more importance there because once they get production from
the bottom of the lineup, they have been better in
the postseason, and when they haven't, then you have years
like last year where you get a little bit disappointed.
You can have it's great to have alstar players, and
it's great that Trey Turner and Kyle Schwarber look like it.
You need everybody one through nine to be contributing, and

(17:26):
the Phillies seem like they have enough of that. But
the starting rotation is another essential piece, and they have
potentially the best starting rotation in baseball. And what they
also have now that I don't think they've ever had.
They've always had a good starting rotation, but it was
three through four. It was mostly Zach Wheeler, Aaron Nola,

(17:46):
Christopher Sanchez and Ranger Suarez. So you have four, but
the fifth spot was always questionable, and if you ever
had moments where those four didn't look good, got injured.

Speaker 2 (17:58):
You just weren't sure if they would be to hold up.

Speaker 3 (18:00):
Especially once we get to a longer season and you
play one hundred and sixty two games. How that was
going to hold up? Through one hundred and sixty two.
You don't even have that problem anymore. You have answers
in other ways, even with Aaron Nola being out. So
this is even new territory that the Phillies haven't been
in in a long time. I can't recall during any

(18:22):
of these runs where depth wasn't an issue in the
starting rotation.

Speaker 2 (18:27):
Doesn't mean they weren't good.

Speaker 3 (18:28):
They were a great starting rotation, but it was always
with the caveat if they miss one piece. Though this
doesn't look that good, you're getting into really shady territory
and the depth isn't all that good. This is the
first time I could say I think the depth of
the starting rotation is a giant strength for the Phillies
because you're missing one of the supposed to be one

(18:48):
of your best pitchers, and yet you could fill in
somebody like Mick Abel, who's probably had to pitch more
than I think the Phillies wanted him to, has come
up great stuff. Major league stuff. He's been getting hard
at times, but he's giving you some really good innings.
And I think now his numbers aren't going to stay
the same. He is a two point two one era
at the moment. It's not going to stay the same.

(19:10):
But I do think that you can still get really good,
meaningful innings out of Mick abel And especially during a
long season, you don't expect your fifth guy in the rotation,
essentially sixth guy in the rotation, to be giving you
light out, lights out, shutout innings every single game.

Speaker 2 (19:32):
But he's given them some great innings.

Speaker 3 (19:34):
And if you eat up five to six innings, give
up a few runs, so be it. Really, it was
just one game against the Cubs that it was a
bit of a disaster. He got hit hard that game.
I remember being at that game. I was there, and
three home runs is already bad to see. But he
was getting hit hard all game. They definitely saw him
very well. But then to come out the next game

(19:56):
to do well against the Marlins, five innings, pitch only
three hits at one earned run, phenomenal stuff. The strikeouts
aren't quite thirty a nine strikeout game in his debut,
but since then, two strikeouts against Toronto, three against Chicago,
three against Miami. So it's not a bunch of swing

(20:17):
and miss stuff. He is giving up a little bit
of contact, but the stuff is good enough to where
he can play in the major leagues and eat up
some innings. That's the kind of depth they did not
have they were calling up. I remember some pretty questionable
starting pitching at times in the season's previous. Now they
have somebody that can actually work. And Andrew Paynter moving up.

(20:39):
I don't think he's going to be in the rotation,
but he can be added to the bullpen when you
have starting pitching depth, and especially when it is that
good too, to where one through four are lights out,
and then you have options at number five that are
actually legit options. That helps your bullpen too. So the
reason why you can win all these games with your

(21:01):
bullpen being nineteenth in the era over the past couple of weeks,
and I think the month of June, you win games
because you're starting pitching is going deep in games. You
aren't having to rely on more bullpen arms, because the
more bullpen arms you have to rely on, obviously the
worst it's.

Speaker 2 (21:17):
Going to get.

Speaker 3 (21:18):
You want to minimize the impact of reliever can have
on a game, and starting pitching is doing that, and
it's almost all of them are doing that. Of course,
a couple of blow ups from Jesus lazarda of course
one for mckabel Zach Wheeler I think had one too.

Speaker 2 (21:34):
It's going to happen.

Speaker 3 (21:35):
But the reason why you're forty six and thirty and
you're first in the NL East and consistently able to
win games with the bad bullpen is because you have
a really good starting rotation. So that's championship caliber two.
I always think one of the most fixable parts of
a team in baseball are the one that is fluid

(21:56):
and changes a lot. It's never going to stay the same,
it's always going to go through rough patches. It's always
going to fluctuate. It's the bullpen. So right now the
Phillies bullpen is bad and it's concerned and there's no
help on the way. Yet they lost Jose Alvarado. They

(22:16):
needed Jose Alvarado, so the bullpen does need some work
and they need somebody to step up. And Ryan Kirkering
has stepped up and he's been absolutely phenomenal, lights out
for them in a reliever role and starting to get
some late inning ninth inning.

Speaker 2 (22:32):
Duties as well.

Speaker 3 (22:35):
The thing is that Ken Change like Matt Strom, could
get better than what he has been so far this season.
Maybe Tanner Banks does. At some point Taiwan settles into
a bullpen roll better than he has lately. Gave up
a home run last night. Home runs are becoming a
bit of an issue for him. They were when he

(22:55):
was a starter. Just doesn't have credible stuff enough to
blow by guys anymore. He really has to be careful
where he's at in the strike zone, but he's not.
He doesn't have that great of command to do that,
so at times he gets himself into a lot of trouble.
And then also Jordan Romano. That was a controversial pickup

(23:18):
because it's essentially they got Jordan Romano or took Jordan
Romano over Jeff Hoffman. And Jordan Romano has not been
very good. He did have a solid month of May
two point five to three e Ray, but every other
month has been terrible March. The two games he played
in March, he has an ERA of nine. In April,
in eight and a third innings, pitched a twelve point

(23:40):
nine to sixty RA, and so far, through five and
a third innings pitched, he has a five point zero
six e RA. Luckily, though in his last three starts
has had some blanks and was able to pick up
a hole against Miami, But his last three starts one
inning against Chicago, no no runs, one inning against Toronto,
no runs, one inning against Miami, no runs. Jord Romano

(24:01):
could be I hate to say, relied on, but could
get better. Like there, there are some pieces in the
bullpen currently that could help fix it, and there are
going to be options available. There are a lot of
bullpen arms. Starting pitching is the toughest to get. Starting

(24:23):
pitching in a power bat good luck to get the
trade deadline. But what doesn't cost as much and what
there is an abundance of is solid quality bullpen arms.
And I think now that maybe you don't have to
go for a bat. We thought a bench bat or
somebody that can play in the outfield, especially center field,

(24:43):
and a reliever.

Speaker 2 (24:45):
Yeah, you got it. There's more resources to spend.

Speaker 3 (24:47):
That means you probably aren't going to get, you know,
anything great, because you have to go. You gotta split
up your resources into two different areas. I don't think
you have to do that.

Speaker 2 (24:56):
Now.

Speaker 3 (24:57):
If it were me, and what I think think Dombrowski
should do, go all in and getting a good reliever.
Go all in and getting a quality reliever. Going all
in doesn't mean you have to give away your top
prospects or anything. That just means that what you are
willing to give away at the trade deadline, what you're
willing to part with, use all of it. Instead of

(25:17):
splitting it to a center fielder or slash outfielder and
a bullpen arm. You just go for the bullpen ar.
I think it's the only thing that truly needs to
be fixed. So for all of this concern with the Phillies,
and it's funny because Philadelphia seem to be panicking the
most all of Major League Baseball. When you look at

(25:38):
national writers and the perception of the Phillies, and from
a national perspective, they were still being ranked like a
top five to six team in baseball. That's really good.
I think for the most part, a lot of people
look at the Phillies as a championship contending team that
was just going through a bad stretch of games. So

(26:00):
they have gone through a bad stretch of games, now
they're going through another great one. It's a good team.
We've seen it all now it's a really good team.
There's some issues there, mostly with the bullpen, but it's fixable.
And it's still June twenty first. You have an idea
of where you are at this point, and right now,

(26:22):
the Phillies are going to either be at the top
of the National League East or they're going to be
the number one wildcard team. And right now it's trending
in a direction. For the most part, they look better
than the Mets. They're probably a better team than the Mets.
They're on their way trending to be the number one
team of the National League East. That's all I can
ask for in June twenty first. I don't need it

(26:42):
to be a complete team. Things change, Seasons change after
the All Star break. We have seen lots of teams
after the All Star break. Their seasons changed dramatically. They
get a little bit better, a little bit worse. Things
change in the second half of the season. Things change
as you get closer to October baseball, as you get
closer to playoff baseball, and they're going to change for
the Phillies. But as a core as a team right

(27:05):
now and what they are currently and what their season is,
this is a team that's probably going to finish near
or at the top of the division, most likely the
top of the division, and they're going to be a
top three to five team in baseball when it's all
said and done in the regular season, they're going to
be a chance that's a championship contending team. Baseball is different.

(27:27):
Where as long as you're around that area, as long
as you're in the dance and you have shown and
proven you can win big baseball games against really good teams,
you can win Arizona. We've seen it the Mets, We've
seen the Phillies, we saw in twenty two a few
years ago. You's just got to get in and if

(27:48):
you've shown a times you can be a very good
baseball team, you got a chance in the postseason. Phillies
have a really good chance in the postseason. I think
it's this added pressure of once this season is over,
whatever the results may be, if it's not a World Series,
that this is likely we're getting towards the end of
this group. There's already questions about if Kyle Schwarber is

(28:09):
going to be able to sign back here in Philadelphia.
You know, it's another year of Trey Turner, another year
of Bryce Harper, another year of Nick Castiano, Sia Tiromuto,
all getting older. Zach Wheeler doesn't have much time left
to think he's going to retire in twenty twenty seven.
So this, this seems like in terms of where guys
are at in their contract, how they're playing, this seems

(28:32):
like this, this has to be this is the last
true run. It could still happen, but this seems like
what their last best shot. They had a great shot
last year, they had a great shot a couple of
years ago, in the year before that. This seems like
the last part of that run. So I think there
is the added pressure and so when there's there's signs
of well, they ain't do enough in the offseason, and

(28:55):
it shows sometimes during the regular season. Their bullpen isn't
good enough, sometimes in the lineup isn't good enough. Just
you panic because it this might be the last shot,
and you want it to be a perfect shot. But
unless you are the Los Angeles Dodgers, there is no
perfect shot. There is no This is a perfect team

(29:20):
and we are ready to win a world series. The
only team that can say that in Major League Baseball
is the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Speaker 2 (29:30):
That's it. Even Detroit right now, it's the best record
in baseball. Can't even say that.

Speaker 3 (29:36):
The Phillies are right there with Detroit, Los Angeles, the Yankees.
At one point, the Mets, Phillies are right there. That's
what they are. Now, what do they finish as and
can it improve enough to give you a better chance?
I hope so. But it's all in a great it's

(29:58):
trending in the right direction. It's all going in the
right direction. And at this point in June twenty first,
they're in a very good spot. I don't think there's
any more being concerned. It's just what are they going
to look like at the finish line in the regular season,
going into the postseason. Once we get to the Alstar
break trade deadline, that's when it's a final picture. It's

(30:19):
not a final picture yet, it's a pretty darn good one.
Tune into Green Legion Radio, Fox Sports The Gambler, John
Jansen here, no Quimby. Quimby is Your guess is as
good as mine. I have no idea, but Quimby is
not here in the studio. Jean Bernard's here in the
studio with me, working hard. I just want to shout
him out because he did already two shows today. Now
he's working hard on DraftKings and he's doing his thing,

(30:40):
so hard working. Sean Bernard in the studio with me
for some reason, listening to me, keeping me company. I
don't know why, but he's here doing a terrific job.
Coming up next though, we are going to it is
Green Legion Radio, and what Green Legion does is get
you some of the best home tailgates. Also brings you
great travel packages to go on the road for Eagles games.
So we're gonna talk some birds, and I think one

(31:02):
sentiment I'm hearing so far in the off season, as
we're about a month away from training camp, and I'm
seeing this from fans, I'm seeing this from a national perspective,
and also I'm seeing this from things like Madden ratings,
that this Eagles team got worse during the off season.
Still really good, I still think people for the most part,

(31:23):
I think they're a really good team. But it is
mostly talked about it as the Eagles did not improve
in the offseason.

Speaker 2 (31:31):
They got a little bit worse.

Speaker 3 (31:34):
I don't think they did, and I'll tell you why
coming up next year on Green Legion Radio.

Speaker 1 (31:41):
The Gambling, Philly's home for all things sports gambling.

Speaker 3 (32:11):
No money on the.

Speaker 4 (32:14):
Nobody on the beach.

Speaker 1 (32:17):
In the.

Speaker 2 (32:19):
Summer's out hot, reach into that in the streets. It
is starting to feel like the summer.

Speaker 1 (32:27):
It is hot.

Speaker 3 (32:28):
It extremely hot out there and only going to get hot.
So stay nice and cool, stay hydrated. Plenty of water,
that's right, water an essential need to live. Water, Drink
lots of it. I enjoy it. First first weekend that

(32:53):
it feels like the summer again, I'm gonna get really
hot money into say see, stay cool.

Speaker 2 (33:00):
So we went over a little bit of Phillies.

Speaker 3 (33:01):
We'll go over the game today later on, maybe get
some bets in it. I do like the Phillies on
the money line, so maybe i'll give you reasons why.
We'll get to that in our number two. Also going
to talk a little bit of Jalen Hurts and why
people are obsessive. Yahoo came out with quarterback rankings by
Charles McDonald, who I think is very good. Didn't rank
Jalen Hurts in the top ten. Everybody got mad. So

(33:21):
we'll talk about it, but the Eagles. There have been
some things about just the team overall as well. Speaking
of overall, there overall in Madden is eighty seven. Not
to say Madden is the end all be all. Madden
ratings aren't very good to begin with, but the rating
is pretty low, so if people took note of that.

(33:42):
But I think overall, as an offseason, it feels like
a lot more lost than gained. That there were a
lot more significant pieces that left the Eagles than there
were significant additions to the team this offseason. But that

(34:03):
does not mean to me, and I truly believe this.
And it's hard to say that with a Super Bowl
winning team, they won the Super Bowl, and in order
to get close to that team, you would have to
say that they wouldn't have to win it again. But
we don't know that going into the season. Though in
this offseason it is a consensus that maybe they got worse,

(34:24):
still very good, but got worse. I don't think that's
the case, to be honest with you, I think sometimes
we take too much stock in seeing those the list
the two columns that espn'll put up on a graphic
and I go players lost and then additions and to
see more of it with the Eagles, of really good

(34:46):
Super Bowl contributing players that have left. That does sting,
and it makes you think, oh, maybe they got worse.
But I think it's not taking into account how good
the roster already is and how much better the players
on it could get. Because you are going to get

(35:07):
a year two Quinnon Mitchell, you are going to get
a year two Cooper degen Zach Bond is settling into
year two of a new role that he just started
last season. He was not a middle linebacker. He was
not an inside linebacker before he got to the Eagles.

(35:30):
When he got to the Eagles, he moved inside linebacker.
Could get better. Now there are some injuries. The Kobe Dean,
we aren't sure what he's going to be like to
start the season. Jahad Campbell, the first round draft pick,
we aren't sure what he's going to be at the
start of the season. Still, those guys are good pieces.
They will play at some point next season. You get

(35:53):
another year of Jalen Carter, another year of George Davis,
who I think also has a room for improvement. You
have another year year. I think that's what is hard
to predict. And sometimes what isn't taken into account is
a guy like Moro Oshemo, who actually played well at
times last season and got some pretty good significant snaps,

(36:18):
even out a sack in the postseason. A guy like
Moro Oshimo seventh round pick out of Texas, twenty three
years old. Now, like Milton Williams, he was a higher
draft pick, so obviously expect a little bit more out
of him. But Milton Williams took a little bit of
time right. Last year was the big, huge breakout year.

Speaker 2 (36:42):
He was amazing.

Speaker 3 (36:43):
He was good before that, but amazing. We're going into
year three of Oshimo. He got more games played last year,
he got more snaps last year, got better numbers last year.
It's harder to predict because what you had was I
think you just knew some of the guys like you

(37:06):
knew CJ. Garner Johnson was really good. You didn't have
to try and guess. It was more stable. You just
you had an understand of what those guys were. But
what I think Howie Roseman has done an excellent job
of is eventually there is going to be another guy
that they will have to replace with, So Milton Williams,

(37:27):
they have an idea at some point, we're probably not
gonna be able to pay him. He's gonna get too
good and we're gonna have to let him walk because
we already have to pay guys like Jalen Carter, Jordan
Davis they had to pick up the fifth year, so
eventually you're gonna have to replace him. So here comes Ozimo.
They draft him in the seventh round. They like what
they see, clearly, because if he's getting more playing time

(37:49):
and he's getting more snaps, that means they're probably liking
what they're seeing.

Speaker 2 (37:53):
I got like more Ojemo.

Speaker 3 (37:54):
Yeah, maybe he's not Milton Williams, but he's good. You
can actually use him, and he were places that Then
you bring in a guy like ty Robinson, who they
drafted highly out of Nebraska in the draft.

Speaker 2 (38:06):
Ty Robinson could fill that void.

Speaker 3 (38:09):
So I think there was so much made of what
the Eagles lost and still not made of what they
have can improve. I think one of the biggest things
that could actually improve, and I don't know for a
lot of people that Jalen Hurts is already like this
finished product and he's amazing. Jalen Hurts was good last year, great,
even I will say great. He was obviously amazing in

(38:30):
the playoffs, the super Bowl, the Super Bowl game just
in general was incredible. But Jalen Hurts numbers wise, had
like just a good year. Nothing bad. The good even
great at times. There's room for him to get better,

(38:50):
I guess. Still, his best year was a couple of
years ago in the first Super Bowl run that he
had that was a much better version of Jalen Hurts
than we got last year. But what happens with quarterbacks
like Jalen Hurts, And We've seen a few examples of these,
and I'll give them after I get through this, but
quarterback that has flaws is able to get on a

(39:12):
very good team and a very good structured organization. They
get talent around him, they get them the right coaching,
they get them the right offense. And what happens is
is the flaws are there, but they're able to hide
them to the point that after a while he starts
understanding better and better what he is as an NFL quarterback.

(39:35):
And Jalen Hurts at this point understands exactly how he
can play as an NFL quarterback, and the flaws start
to diminish. The flalls aren't as great. Yes, I think
last year is a good example of it. At times
fell back into some very bad habits, but he's able
to work through them easier.

Speaker 2 (39:53):
They don't show up as often.

Speaker 3 (39:59):
But then as his career goes on, he just starts
to turn into the version of him that I think
a lot of people think already he is. I don't
think he's there yet, but he's going to get there,
especially with everything around him that's so good. It's given
him an opportunity to continue to learn and get there

(40:20):
in a healthy way. To me, Jalen Hurts was not
an MVP type quarterback last year. I think Jalen Hurts
is going to be and the MVP conversation, and I
think he could win the MVP next year. Like if
you're to ask me what my bet would be MVP,
I haven't seen the odds. I do want to kind

(40:41):
of check them if I can find that, but I
don't think Jalen Hurts is going to be very high
up the board. I think he won't even be the
eagle with the shortest odds. That would likely be probably
sae Quon Barkley. Takon Barkley's at fifty to one. Wow, Okay,

(41:02):
a little bit different, I guess quarterbacks still, but Jalen
Hurts seventeen to one. I love that number because you
go from Lamar Jackson the plus five fifty, Josh Allen
plus five to fifty, Joe Burrow plus six fifty, Patrick
Mahomes seven to one, Jaydon Daniels plus seven to fifty,
and then you make a huge jump to Jalen Hurts
seventeen to one, just above Justin Herbert who's eighteen to one.

Speaker 1 (41:23):
C J.

Speaker 3 (41:23):
Shood twenty five to one, Baker Mayfield twenty five to one,
Jordan Love twenty five to one. Kind of like the
Jordan elplump number a little bit. But I like the
Hurts one better because they didn't need to use him
all that much last year, and again, I don't think
it was the best year he's had as an Eagle.
I think the biggest improvement you can see still is
from your quarterback. Your Super Bowl winning Super Bowl MVP

(41:50):
two appearance is in the Super Bowl, quarterback can significantly improve,
and it's happened twice before that. I can recall in
situations where quarterback landed a good spot that you thought
maybe at a shot, but just two flaw didn't have

(42:10):
enough skills whatever to be able to do it. I
think the best example of it ever is Tom Brady.
Tom Brady was not Tom Brady. In the first three
Super Bowls that New England won. Tom Brady was a
piece to it, a contributor to it. Tom Brady was
not reason one, two, maybe even three or four why
New England won the Super Bowl in the first three years.

(42:32):
That was largely Bill Belichick defensively, and Tom Brady just
played his part really well. But Tom Brady didn't start
to take over as the top dog, the number one guy,
the reason why they were winning games. Probably telling like
Randy Moss got there. Randy Moss got there, and then
all of a sudden things opened up in the offense

(42:52):
and Brady was Brady, and that's when he became one
of the greatest quarterbacks, and a lot of people would
say the greatest quarterback of all time. He wasn't that
at first. It was healthy environment, good organization, with good coaching,
and Brady was eventually able to work himself into being
Tom Brady. Russell Wilson lands in a really great organization

(43:14):
or at least an organization at the time. Pete Carroll
was a great coach at the time. They were drafting
really well, they had a great defense, they won a
Super Bowl, get the two Super Bowls. We know what
happened there in the second one, losing to Tom Brady.
But then after that and a lot was made of
Russell Wilson. You could say whatever you want about him
and the type of person that he is, and players
didn't seem to like him, whatever the case may be.

(43:34):
Eventually he was starting to put up MVP type numbers
and he wasn't in the two Super Bowl years. He
was in MVP conversations a lot after that. Because what
flaws you have is a five to ten quarterback in
the NFL that you have to figure out and work
your right through. He did, and he learned how to

(43:55):
be in his Russell Wilson way, one of the best
quarterbacks in the.

Speaker 2 (43:59):
League for for a time. For a stretch, it.

Speaker 3 (44:03):
Took healthy environment, healthy coaching to give healthy development. And
Jalen Hurts has had an environment for healthy development and
in doing so has actually been able to get to
two Super Bowls, win a Super Bowl. But there's still
flaws there and the fact that now, that healthy environment

(44:24):
I think creates it to where Jalen Hurts still has
development steps that he could take and likely will take.
I think Jalen Hurts could eventually end up being the
top five to seven quarterback that everybody thinks he is
right now. And I think he's probably gonna win an
MVP at some point in his career, and it could
likely happen this upcoming season. But that's I don't think

(44:46):
being talked about enough either. And then you have still
Jake On Barkley, A J. Brown, Devonte Smith, Dallas Goddter,
Grant Calcatara behind him. The best offensive line in football,
no doubt about it, not even a question which Jordan
my Lot, Atlanta dick Erson, Cam Jurgens, whoever they're gonna
put at right card and then Lane Johnson that right

(45:07):
there is the best offensive line of football in football
to the offenses, all systems go. It could get better.
So I know the subtractions seem to be substantial, but
I think the improvements weren't going to be who they

(45:29):
brought in. It's how good are the guys on the
roster going to get with another year? Quinjon Mitchell, Cooper,
Dejen another year of Zach Bond, Jalen Carter could get
more dominant, Jordan Davis can get better more, Ojamo can
become a legit starting NFL defensive tackle. You get another

(45:49):
year of Jalen Hurts developing. Everything is working way to
their roster. Their core is going to get better, and
then you just hope some of the offseason additions o'jelaari.
I think there was another one on the defensive line,
or even a Jalx Hunt. Another year of Jalx Hunt
showed some really great signs. Keey Ringo, Sidney Brown. Maybe

(46:11):
I'm not. I don't have two high hopes. Maybe Sidney Brown.
There's a lot to like with this team, but the
core is I think what we need to focus on
more and that can actually get better. With their ceiling
already being Super Bowl champions, that's where the improvement comes,

(46:32):
and I think it could be a significant provement, especially
if it comes from their quarterback, Tony the Green Legion
Radio Fox Sports The Gambler.

Speaker 2 (46:40):
It's a little bit of Birdstock.

Speaker 3 (46:41):
We'll get back to Jalen Hurts as well a little
bit later on in the second hour, but our number
two coming up. Ace Bailey The Sixers have had some
fun head cases that could be either potentially join them
or have joined them. For the most part, the head
cases have joined them, starting with Andrew Bynham all the
way to Markel Faults, to Ben Simmons and now maybe

(47:04):
Ace Bailey. He canceled visits with the six Ers. He
didn't visit any team before the draft, which is coming
up this upcoming week. Should they still draft him? Would
he be? Is he a still an option? Is he
not an option anymore? Ace Bailey is making this a

(47:26):
lot more difficult for teams, but I don't think it
necessarily means he won't get drafted at number three by
the Sixers. I'll let you know why come him next
year on Green Legion Radio.

Speaker 1 (47:36):
Number one on your car radio preset hand. The new
and improved Iheard Radio wda WD two seven three D
Philadelphia is Fox Sports Radio The Gambler.

Speaker 3 (48:10):
If your thoughts that the NBA Draft was a chest
for the Sixers to draft the young, none problematic, normal
NBA player that has no off the court, just shenanigans,
apparently you're wrong. I can't even find that it's not

(48:35):
to say all players though. Terry Spaxis, Jared McCain. They
would see him back, but there's a potential to bring
another head case in.

Speaker 2 (48:44):
I don't even know what to make of him. Actually,
I don't know what to make up of any of them.
But it's a thing.

Speaker 3 (48:50):
Ace Bailey, who is a projected I think for the
most part, I have to say consensus. But for the
most part, there are like a couple of players to
the three players that you would say are options for
the Sixers at three. For the most part, projections have
led to Ace Bailey being the number three overall pick.

(49:14):
But as the Great League course, so we get one
more college game day of can't wait sixty something days
away from the college football season. But in the words
of the Great League course, THO, not so fast, my friend,
because Ace Bailey has canceled the visit with the Sixers,
and in fact it's not just a Sixers issue. This

(49:35):
guy didn't visit anyone. He said, nah, I'm good, I
don't need to do this. I think for the most
part we can argue that should he be doing this
or not, what the what the benefits of it are.

Speaker 2 (49:52):
I don't think he's in position to do that.

Speaker 3 (49:55):
This guy is acting like he is the consensus, no
doubt about it. Surefire pick at three, and whatever team
wants to to come grab him grabs him, whether that
be the Sixers, or they trade back or somebody trade down,
whatever the game. He just goes, I'm I'm that guy,
and I can go wherever when, wherever I choose, or

(50:16):
wherever wants. But I'm the third best player in this draft.
I don't think it's that clear cut. And I think
when you pull stuff like this, you're definitely jeopardizing it
a lot more. But Ace Baley is still Like it's
kind of funny that people flip in the conversation. Now,
So if you thought Ace Bailey was good and you
were like bought in on Ace Bailey as a draft pick,

(50:39):
don't then all of a sudden when he cancels a visit,
go like.

Speaker 2 (50:42):
Well, you know, maybe VJ.

Speaker 3 (50:43):
Edgecombe was always better. Don't do that, like stand by
on what you thought the player is. Just evaluate it
off of the kind of person that he is and
what he's doing. Now, that's all you have to evaluate.
If you like the player before, the player's still good.
Nothing changes with as Bailey doesn't mean he's a worse player,
a better player. If you thought the player was good
and should be the number three overall pick. It's still

(51:04):
worth having the conversation of if he should be the
number three overall pick because the talent's there, but you
didn't run into the complications of it, though. Is he
going to be upset if he's a sixer. Has he
made it known to the sixers don't draft me and
that's why he canceled the visit Is it that he

(51:25):
thinks he's already a number three overall pick and does
it want to give any reason for it, because we
see this a lot in the NFL draft, like if
if you're a top three pick projected, a lot of
those guys aren't going to do much. Like a number
one overall pick quarterback isn't throwing at the NFL combine,
he'sn't running at the NFL combine.

Speaker 2 (51:44):
They will do interviews.

Speaker 3 (51:45):
NFL is a little bit different, and you have to
go through their draft process or else it's going to
be like shouldharre Sanders and they're gonna be punishing you
for that and go multiple multiple rounds after you should
have likely gone. But NFL is like you have to
go through all processor are not going to draft. The
NBA is a little bit different. We've seen player empowerment
be a much bigger deal and players be able to

(52:08):
more freely do kind of whatever they want without too
many consequences to their status with the team or how
much that a.

Speaker 2 (52:16):
Team is going to put into them.

Speaker 3 (52:19):
For the most part, if you're a great NBA player
and you're going to be a top pick and all that,
I don't think you have to go through the process
or be willing to go through all the steps to
ensure that teams are just going to draft you. I
don't think East Bailey's that kind of talent though to
be doing it, But if he still wants to be

(52:40):
a sixer, I still think the Sixers should look at
him as an option. To me, this doesn't completely take
Ace Bailey out of the picture for the number three
overall pick. All it does essentially is complicated because you

(53:00):
just aren't one hundred percent.

Speaker 2 (53:02):
Sure where this guy's at.

Speaker 3 (53:04):
You aren't one hundred percent sure that he wants to
be a sixer, one hundred percent sure he can fit
into this organization. I don't know what fit is To me.
He fits a little bit of what they need, shooting size,
good athlete, blue chip prospects like all that, all that fits.

(53:25):
The one thing I can't stand is the because of
Ben Simmons, and it's wrong far too often that just
because one guy was a certain way that or a
couple of guys were a certain way, that this guy
is going to be the same way. So a lot
is made of Markel Faultz and Ben Simmons being from
teams that did not make the NCAA tournament, that were

(53:47):
not on good teams. That they aren't You shouldn't draft
those guys because basically they told you in college they
aren't able to uplift the team or talented enough to
make it team an NCAA team.

Speaker 2 (54:01):
I don't think that.

Speaker 3 (54:02):
I don't think if you make the NCAA tournament that
hires your draft stock. I don't think that needs to
do that. And I think Bernard is sean Bnard. Do
you have a point here?

Speaker 1 (54:10):
Is that?

Speaker 2 (54:11):
Are you?

Speaker 4 (54:12):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (54:12):
Just hopping in on the mix and the Ace Bailey
conversation to kind of like my thoughts to summarize this
is it's not this specific. Him not working out is
why you're taking him off the draft board here, But
it's just another red flag and the collection of things
that in its entirety, Yeah right, I'm like, I don't
think you can feel great about cashing the bet on
this dude at this point because, as you said, like,

(54:34):
I just don't think he is. From a talent perspective,
there's legitimate questions about, like your decision making was not good.
You cannot beat guys at a dribbled a regular enough rate,
you did not play make basically at all in college,
that there were spots where your effort level.

Speaker 4 (54:48):
Was not consistent.

Speaker 5 (54:49):
These are things that you need to kind of hammer
out and talk to to a guy, and he's not
giving him that opportunity. So I do think that he's
off the Sixers board at this point. I think the
bigger story from the Sixers perspective is you basically lost
all the leverage, which with having the third pick that
I really do think that they've made a conscious effort
to drive this kind of market up of we control things.

Speaker 4 (55:09):
With the third pick. It goes through us.

Speaker 5 (55:11):
That if you want to trade up to get Ace Baile,
you got to go through us, and then that smoke
screen's kind of out the window.

Speaker 2 (55:17):
That smoke screen is out the winner.

Speaker 3 (55:18):
It does take away leverage, like it throws a wrench
into the NBA draft a little bit because now there
were people talking about what kind of slide could this
be Forrase Bailey because it's not just a Sixers problem
and a complicated problem for just the Sixers. Now every
team that drafts Aast Bailey is going to have complications,
so like it's not just a Sixers specific thing. So
they were talked about him going down the bord. So

(55:39):
I will ask this to you and maybe this will
help me get a better picture of what I think
about it. But because I look at it a certain way,
and I still think they should look at him as
an option, but without all the off the core things.
Is this the kind of player that Daryl Moury like?
Does it fit the prototype of one A Daryl Moury
draft pick has been essentially with like first round picks,

(56:00):
and when they've able to been able to draft a
little bit higher, like a Tyrese Maxey.

Speaker 5 (56:04):
So it's interesting because when you look at the Darryl
Moury like track record for starters, he's never picked this
high in the draft like his entire career, So there
isn't really like a clear baseline for at Yeah.

Speaker 3 (56:14):
Yeah, that's a little bit different because you can draft
on certain things of like at fifteen sixteen, but you're
drafting somebody with like that is going to be flawed.
You aren't sure this is supposed to be. You need
to get this right and like right driving a different
caliber of player.

Speaker 5 (56:26):
Like the general Daryl Moury premis or his thought process,
like a Darryl Mory guy is a blue chip prospect
that has dropped, that did not play his best season
in his one year of college basketball, and like you
can kind of cash in Tyreese, Maxie and Dad McCain
clear examples of that when you're picking at three. That's
kind of all these guys. These are all the blue
chip guys you have the picks to make, you know,

(56:46):
have that kind of case there. So I think he
is very much a star driven GM, which does make
me think he would lean towards a guy like Ace Bailey,
But I also think when looking at some of his
like past drafts, he also likes guys that stuff the
stat sheet and that's not Ace. Like Ace will have
Knights where he scores twenty four points without a single
assist in two rebounds, like, right, that's who he is.

Speaker 3 (57:07):
More well rounded guys, I guess that can stuff the
stash sheet in multiple ways, not just a primary score.

Speaker 5 (57:12):
Right, So you can look at it from a couple
of different angles. But there really is not a track
record for Darryl picking this high to truly judge.

Speaker 3 (57:19):
Yeah, And that's that's what I'm trying to figure out,
because there does Because what was the thing with Tyrs
Max and Jared McCain. He seemed to have a type
there that he was looking for at those guys.

Speaker 5 (57:28):
Yeah, I think it's like blue chip prospects who were
highly regarded throughout their entire basketball pathway and then didn't
have the best like individual year of college, like Tyre's Max.
He shot twenty nine percent from three in this season
at Kentucky. That's why he dropped there. But this was
always a guy that was ranked very highly. Jared McCain,
I think, I think, I mean that was somewhat the
range that he was mocked in and projected as. But

(57:48):
I don't think Darrell like expected to be on the
board that it's typically the guys that fall. I think
a lot of times in Drehdson general, it's people overthinking
things that just take the short thing, the guy that
you know this about, And I think Daryl does a
good job for that.

Speaker 3 (58:01):
Yeah, it's kind of the way Harry Roseman has done
it now recently, you know, because I think a lot
of it's made that, oh, you gotta draft the SEC
or pick ten. It's like, no, the guys that are
really good and that teams have like weird questions about,
they're probably just really good. And I think when Mitchell
is actually one of the best examples of it, the
red flag was he didn't play in a prestigious enough university,
a good enough college football program, and good enough competition,

(58:23):
and that was his red flag. But Howry Rosen goes like,
he was great at the Senior Bowl. The tape looks great, everything,
the measurables look great. This guy's awesome. Why why would
that be a red flag for me to not do it? So, yeah,
it's a little bit of Darren moriy So like Tyre's
Maxie in a bad year shooting. I don't think Darryl
Mory looked at that as well, he's just a bad shooter.
He goes, well, no, he's probably a good shooter. It's
just that's the red flag of that year, that specific thing.

(58:45):
So so that's why I think of Daryl moriy and
kind of the prototype blue chip prospects, good athletes that
are well rounded, because I think McCain is even more
well rounded than thought of coming out of college. Tyre's
Maxie has been able to make himself to a really
well rounded player. I'm even getting better defensively as his
career has gone on. Yeah, but flag guys, but you

(59:06):
can work with it. And actually some of the flaws
are just where they are in college, the type of
coaches and offenses and schemes that they're being run in,
and maybe that's just not a fit.

Speaker 2 (59:14):
We can fit them into this.

Speaker 3 (59:16):
So that's where I think like Ace Bailey can be
a great fit into this. Is that something you think
as well?

Speaker 5 (59:21):
The biggest question with Aces he has to want to
be and that's sort of being the biggest hurdle which
he's exposed here. Like I personally feel strongly that the
best possible pathway to development, which is a phrase that
his camp continues to use, so seeking his best pathway
to development, I feel his best pathway is a spot
like the Sixers where you're getting a low usage role

(59:42):
at the start of your career, you're just shooting open
three pointers, attacking the rim, defending your butt off.

Speaker 4 (59:47):
That's what he should be looking for at the start
of his career.

Speaker 5 (59:50):
When you look at wings throughout NBA history, like Paul
George averaged seven point nine points per game his rookie season,
played nineteen minutes. Kawhi Leonard was a three and D
guy when he came into the NBA. Jason Tatum is
not a low usage guy when he first was dropped
on the Celtics.

Speaker 4 (01:00:03):
It takes a couple of years to develop.

Speaker 5 (01:00:05):
It does seem like Ace Bailey is on the fast
track to want to get to a Washington or a
Brooklyn or a Utah where he can shoot the ball
twenty times a night right from day one. I only
think that's going to reinforce the bad habits that are
already there in his game. If you could get a
bought in Ace Baalley that wants to play a low
usage role, it's exactly what the Sixers need. But I
don't think you're getting that, and I think that's become

(01:00:26):
very clear in this process.

Speaker 3 (01:00:28):
That would be the and that's where it complicates things.
So I think Ace Bailey is actually the kind of
player you know, outside of what just happened with the
canceled visit, that there are some flaws, but we think
he fits into our picture and we can make and
we can make him into that player or not even
make him, but think that he just because he didn't
do it in college doesn't mean he can't do it
with us. And I think it if this didn't happen,

(01:00:51):
if the canceled visit didn't happen, I think it was
going to be Ace Bailey.

Speaker 4 (01:00:53):
Me too.

Speaker 2 (01:00:54):
I think it was.

Speaker 3 (01:00:54):
One hundred percent. So I think just because it complicates
it doesn't mean you shouldn't do it. You have talked
about VJ. Edgecomb and you did. You got me on
board there, like to the point where, okay, if they
pass on, it doesn't matter.

Speaker 1 (01:01:08):
Like VJ.

Speaker 3 (01:01:09):
Edgecombe could actually be a dude and sort of similar
things to what Ace Bailey is really bluecha prospect, right athlete,
all these things, just like didn't do things in college,
so people think that he can't do it.

Speaker 2 (01:01:21):
But VJ.

Speaker 3 (01:01:21):
Edgecomb could end up doing it. As you said, you've
seen flashes of it in college. Once he goes to
the six Ers. He could do it. So I'm a
little bit more if the complications are now too much.

Speaker 6 (01:01:30):
VJ.

Speaker 3 (01:01:30):
Edgecomb does seem like a a not only a good option,
but maybe just as good of an option as Ace Bailey.
But still I just don't think Ace Bailey should be
taken off the board because everything else kind of fits
and this isn't Again, it's a complicated issue, but it
doesn't mean it's an end all beyond this guy can't
do it. It's just you have to question whether or
not this guy wants to develop and wants to be

(01:01:51):
the kind of player you need him to be.

Speaker 5 (01:01:53):
Yeah, and I agree with you the overall sentiment here.
But to me, it's not like there's no smoking gun
or this is why we're not drafting it. It's just
the collect of everything and all this together, and I'm like,
there's too much of this fire. There's too many red
flags that I for me to just be willing.

Speaker 2 (01:02:07):
It all's kind of come up through the draft process.

Speaker 5 (01:02:09):
Yeah, And I've heard on like very good authority like
Acepley is not a bad kid. He's a guy that's
well liked as a teammate. He's a guy that's well
liked as a personality. He's goofy, he's high energy. But
what he is is he's guy who's taking some really
bad advice right now. Like the canceled visit, it was
not just saying to the Sixers, uh, yeah, I don't
want to come in for a workout. The Sixers had

(01:02:29):
breakfast plans, they had dinner reservations, they had a hotel
booked for him, and then less.

Speaker 3 (01:02:34):
So I was almost like a rolling the red carpet,
like hey, this could you Yes, just something we would
do for a guy where we're gonna draft with a
third overall pick.

Speaker 5 (01:02:41):
Correct, that was the plan, Like that was we're rolling
out the red carpet. We're showing you these this is
the key to the organization, this is how we do things,
this is what we.

Speaker 4 (01:02:49):
Want you a part of.

Speaker 5 (01:02:50):
And then twenty four hours beforehand he said, actually I'm
not coming.

Speaker 4 (01:02:53):
And again he's worked out for zero teams.

Speaker 5 (01:02:55):
He's the only American prospect in this draft to not
work out for a single team.

Speaker 4 (01:03:00):
That's crazy, Like what is the plan here?

Speaker 5 (01:03:03):
And like for his agents, like when I say he's
taking bad advice, the number one thing you should be
doing is trying to get your client drafted as high
as possible. And his agent is Sharif Cooper's father, Omar Cooper,
who was his former AAU coach. There was this same
kind of stuff that went on when Shariff was in
the draft, who dropped to the second round when he
was probably a first round talent. It's a different ballgame

(01:03:24):
when you're ace bally, Like, if he just kept his
head down and was normal, I do think you would
have been the third overall pick in this draft. And
we're talking about like a five million dollar swing that
he's likely going to have on draft night because of this.

Speaker 4 (01:03:34):
And again, even if it's not the sixers, like NBA.

Speaker 3 (01:03:37):
Is always about, these guys just want to get money.
Yeah great, Yeah, that's that's what NBA and Powerman is
for and why they did in the first place.

Speaker 2 (01:03:43):
They won more money.

Speaker 3 (01:03:44):
It's surprising that he is willing, it seems like, to
take the chance to not or I don't know, maybe
it's just he thinks he's going to be the third
overall pick no matter what. It's just whoever makes that pick.

Speaker 5 (01:03:53):
But I think like you can just find that out both,
like if it's you just don't want to go to
Philadelphia because there's not room for you to shoot the
enough here, like use them as a vehicle.

Speaker 4 (01:04:02):
I think.

Speaker 5 (01:04:03):
I still think in an ideal world, the Sixers want
to move down a little bit in this draft. So
if a team has to trade the three to get you,
like we can all work together to make that AVN here.

Speaker 4 (01:04:13):
And that's out the window at this point, it's.

Speaker 3 (01:04:16):
Out the window, so you're like completely crumble up the
Ace Bailey plans.

Speaker 5 (01:04:20):
Throw it out the window. It's completely done. Yeah, I
don't think they take them. I do think that there
was a fence taken too. The just the handling of
all this, and I get it.

Speaker 4 (01:04:30):
It is far from by the books.

Speaker 3 (01:04:32):
Oh yeah, no, no, this isn't by the book. This
isn't normal at all.

Speaker 5 (01:04:36):
Like, I don't think there was a one chance that
Ace Bailey would have been drafted all things equal here,
I think Darryl.

Speaker 3 (01:04:44):
What percentage would you have put it at? Probably would
have been pretty high, but.

Speaker 5 (01:04:47):
I'd probably say fifty percent, Okay, which is the leader
in the clubhouse.

Speaker 4 (01:04:51):
I would have viewed it. VJ I think has certainly
passed it.

Speaker 5 (01:04:53):
Like when things first happened, I would my likelihood before
all the pre draft process, I would have probably said
fifty percent a bad VJ. Edge Comb and then maybe
like ten Konker Nipple, ten Trey Johnson would probably be
my my breakdown of what their odds were for three.

Speaker 3 (01:05:08):
But obviously he leads the clubhouse. He would have been
leading the clubhouse.

Speaker 4 (01:05:12):
Yes, I think he would have.

Speaker 5 (01:05:13):
But like again, there's legitimate questions about this guy's a personality,
is a game, and he's just at his game in particular,
and it's made everything worse.

Speaker 3 (01:05:20):
It's made everything worse, It's made everything complicated, and of
course it has to happen to a player that the
Sixers were likely the draft.

Speaker 2 (01:05:31):
Oh, I love it.

Speaker 3 (01:05:32):
And when things once you feel like things could maybe
get normal to a point it's not. And then of
course Ace Bailey, after he does all this to the Sixers,
he ends up throwing out the first pitch for He's
gonna throw.

Speaker 5 (01:05:44):
Them at the first pitch for the Mets, yes, Tuesday,
the day before the draft. Like seriously, he's being so
direct of like, don't draft me, Philadelphia, that there's part
of me that's like this is.

Speaker 2 (01:05:53):
Is this all directed? You think it? Philadelphia?

Speaker 4 (01:05:56):
I think like so looking at the draft order.

Speaker 3 (01:05:58):
I just don't think he's understanding that it feels directed
all towards Philly, especially when he can't sil plant but
not doing any visits. It's he hasn't He's seems like
he has just no regard for it all. Just I
definitely alienating every team.

Speaker 4 (01:06:12):
I don't.

Speaker 5 (01:06:12):
I definitely don't think he's aware of like what an
enemy he's directly made here, Like right, he's now on
my list, Like I hate a faily.

Speaker 3 (01:06:20):
A lot of it on social media. They're phil Sixers
fans are not not for this guy. Yes, And there
was a lot of like, oh, we should be the
guy there. I mean a lot of people it seemed
like we're in favor of it, and now it's like
completely swayed the opposite direction. But if he gets drafted,
I think they're gonna be people legitimately upset if he
gets drafted.

Speaker 4 (01:06:38):
Yeah, like he was before again before all this.

Speaker 5 (01:06:41):
He's one of the more polarizing draft prospects that I've
ever come across, with just the range of opinions on
who this guy is. But I I do think it's
primarily directed at Philadelphia for the same reason of just
touches and shots that he wants a clean slate and
when you have Joelle and b Paul, George Shard, McCain
Tyrese MAXI like, that's just not quite going to be
the case. Again, I think it's the best path for

(01:07:02):
his development for that to be the case, for that
to be as well from day one, but that's not
what he wants.

Speaker 3 (01:07:06):
Yeah, and I do when I make this comment, people
are gonna go, well, the Sixers is actually a championship
caliber team, what the talent they have, and you add
somebody like a S. Bailey, Sure like they're gonna be
one of the top teams in the East as long
as they're healthy and all things considered. But like it,
it's a roster that could be really good.

Speaker 4 (01:07:20):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:07:20):
So basically for.

Speaker 3 (01:07:21):
Ace Bailey is it's the question of do you want
to be a piece on a championship caliber team or
do you want to be Bradley Beal or do you
want to like put up a bunch of shots on
a really bad team and make yourself an All Star
I guess, or at least enough to think that you could.
It's a better pathway to like a max contract type thing.
Is that I think that's to me, is what he's considering,

(01:07:42):
and it seems like he's leaning in the direction of, Yeah,
I don't want to be on a piece to a
team that could be championship caliber.

Speaker 4 (01:07:48):
I think that's fairly accurate.

Speaker 5 (01:07:50):
But I just think like it's misguided, Like it's definitely misguided.
Like I've seen Kelly Ubrey average twenty points per game
for the Hornets and be on a veterans minimum the
next year. I've also seen Jonathan Kuminga barely touch the
floor for the Warriors and get paid as an extension.
If you're that guy, you're gonna be that guy no
matter where you land. If you're that good at basketball
in the way that you clearly perceive yourself to you

(01:08:11):
should not care about the location. It should be I'm
carving out a lane regardless of where I land here.

Speaker 3 (01:08:17):
Yeah, I would say your success as a team helps
out your success individually. That if your team, if the
team is good and they're playing well, they see you
as a championship caliber piece, that you would go on
a team you would bring that kind of championship pedigree
or at least whatever it is that you think the
pedigree of taking that onto a team that we get

(01:08:39):
that player, we get better. Instead, if we get that player,
we're not sure if you can fit, which I think
what would happen if he scores a bajillion points but
goes to another team and can't do that. So yeah,
I think it's definitely misguided. I think it's interesting, it's wild,
and the only thing that is very normal about this
is it's happening of the sixers. Yeah, that's the only

(01:08:59):
thing that it seems right at home.

Speaker 2 (01:09:01):
So to me, it's like, welcome, welcome to the chaos.
You know what.

Speaker 3 (01:09:05):
Actually, thanks for adding to it. You're gonna fit great
here in all of this. Good luck. But of course
I don't know if that's going to happen. Doesn't seem
like it's going to happen.

Speaker 1 (01:09:15):
VJ.

Speaker 2 (01:09:15):
Edgecombe seems to be the pick, right, That seems to.

Speaker 5 (01:09:18):
Be nic Yes, I think for sure if any GM
were to stare down the barrel and still make the
selection like it would be Daryl Moray here.

Speaker 3 (01:09:25):
But I know I saw that and somebody I think
it was Brian Windhorst that reported that a GM, the
GM who makes this pick would have to feel.

Speaker 2 (01:09:33):
Very safe about their spots.

Speaker 3 (01:09:34):
Correct and you can make people can make their jokes
about Daryl Moury. I don't think there's somebody that has
better job security than Darryl Moury right now.

Speaker 4 (01:09:42):
I wouldn't say that after last season. I think this last.

Speaker 3 (01:09:45):
Season puts that much of it onto because I don't
think Josh Harris cares at this point.

Speaker 5 (01:09:49):
I think this is a very important season for the
jobs of everyone in the Sixers organization, like I think
Nick Nurse and Darryl Moury are. I think Nick Nurse
definitely operating with pressure and for what it's worth, Like,
I think Daryl's done a very nice job.

Speaker 4 (01:10:03):
I think like obviously last year.

Speaker 3 (01:10:05):
Was that it seems like from from an organization standpoint,
they'd seem very pleased with what Daryl Moore has done.

Speaker 5 (01:10:11):
Yes and no, because like I think he's done a
lot of good stuff. But at the end of the day,
they're thick and third in the draft for a reason.
Here it's like how how last season went, and that
is on Joelle's health, Paul George didn't work out. But
those are all things that like Darryl knew the risk
of what you're getting involved with. So I would just
say I think this is a very important year for
the future of Daryl Morrey.

Speaker 2 (01:10:30):
Okay, I didn't.

Speaker 3 (01:10:31):
I didn't think that, but I Am not going to
say you're wrong, because last year was bad. But it
just it seems like a general manager that is comfortable
making any decision he has to yes.

Speaker 2 (01:10:42):
And that could mean potentially Ace Bailey.

Speaker 3 (01:10:44):
But it doesn't seem like it. What a wild turn
of events in this whole thing. And so we'll see
when the NBA Draft comes around this upcoming week what
they actually do on Wednesday.

Speaker 2 (01:10:54):
Going to be fun, all right?

Speaker 3 (01:10:55):
Coming up next on Green Legion Radio, we do have
a Phillies game today. You want to go over that,
I think I'm I'm just gonna do two segments here,
so this might be the last segment coming up. So
also in that we'll talk about some Jalen Hurts as
well and why quarterback rankings. Yahoo came out with the
top ten quarterback list. Jalen Hurst was not on it.
People got mad. We'll talk about it. But coming up
next the Phillies. What is their outlook for today? I'll

(01:11:16):
let you know why I think they are a good
bets on the board.

Speaker 2 (01:11:20):
Coming up next here on Green Legion.

Speaker 1 (01:11:22):
Radio Alexa play Fox Sports Radio The Gambler on iHeartRadio,
Immediate win every time.

Speaker 4 (01:11:30):
You always think that they're gonna win.

Speaker 1 (01:11:32):
Phillies. New home for Fox Sports Radio is the Gambler.
If you can wager on it, we're talking about it.
It's the Gambler.

Speaker 6 (01:12:03):
Oh yeah, you'll see your songs celebrating line. Just try
there your croucher's sound say we'll stop in the tones.

Speaker 3 (01:12:46):
Get up, Oh right, everybody, Green These Radio, Fox Sports
the Gambler. How did you thumbs up or thumbs down
on the Quimby impression? Check it out the second that
was pretty Saturda. I got a thumbs out. Ace Bailey
doesn't get a thumb up from Shaan Bnard, I do.
That's what thumb's big thumbs down from sham then, but

(01:13:09):
no quind me today, Green Legion Radio. Though Fox Sports
a Gambler every Saturday, we try at least for every
Saturday one to three.

Speaker 2 (01:13:17):
Maybe next Saturday we'll be on as well. Just dependent, but.

Speaker 3 (01:13:21):
No quind me today me John Jansen holding things down
for Green Legion Radio. I didn't say any of the sponsors.
I asked Quimby, I who wanted to be to say
anything about the sponsors. You didn't tell me to say
anything about the sponsors. But cheerleaders, gentlemen club, I know
that one. So shout out cheer a very great sponsor
for it, Green Legion rad Lo. This we are in

(01:13:43):
the final segment though, wrapping things up here, take talk
a little bit of birds. A lot of Phillies want
to go back to the Phillies. There's a game Tonight's
an important game. Every game against the Mets this season
now is going to be very important because it is
the clear cut as I just heard Sean Bernard informed
me at some point during the show, I think right

(01:14:05):
as we were about to go on that.

Speaker 2 (01:14:06):
Chris Sale is on the injured list.

Speaker 3 (01:14:09):
So Atlanta I thought they could have gotten healthy, maybe
start getting themselves in a conversation of potentially the top
of the NL East.

Speaker 2 (01:14:17):
But it's not going to be.

Speaker 3 (01:14:18):
The NL East is going to either be won by
the Phillies or the Mets, so the head to head
games are going to be there's a lot of importance
on them. So it's an important series and last night
was a good win. Now they go for game number
two in the three game series against the Mets, tonight
seven point fifteen on the mound for the Phillies.

Speaker 2 (01:14:41):
Mick Abel.

Speaker 3 (01:14:43):
Two and zero, two point two one ERA, one point
zero three whip in twenty to third innings, seventeen strikeouts.
The strikeouts kind of get a bit concerning because he
does it did look like he had great strikeouts.

Speaker 2 (01:14:56):
Stuff like the fastball is really good.

Speaker 3 (01:14:58):
He's got a great breaking ball, so you would think
there'd be more swings and misses. Maybe that's an indicator
of that he's not missing as many bats, that they're
making better contact and making harder contact against him. But

(01:15:19):
to me, it's maybe a sign of teams are the
scouting reports there, they know his stuff and they know
how to hit him. I don't know if that's necessarily
the case yet, though after the Cubs game, I gave
up three home runs, was getting hit hard, giving up
a bunch of hard contact. That game came back and
played it, pitched really well against the Marlins. So I

(01:15:43):
want to see if I can find those numbers if
mick Abel is giving up a lot of hard contact.
But as we do that, Phillies are a favorite. They're
going to be minus one to ten on the money line. Obviously,
It's going to depend on whatever book you use. But
on the mound for the Mets is Griffin Canning if
his season so far solid six and three, three point
eight zero ERA, the whip is a little bit high,

(01:16:05):
one point four zero whip. That's all in sixty eight
and two thirds innings, giving up sixty three hits in
those innings and sixty three strikeouts with thirty three walks.
Griffin Canning at one point did look good, but the
last seven games that he has started have not been great.
So this is about half of his starts. He has

(01:16:27):
pitched thirty two and a third and I'm getting this.
Phil's Tailgate has posted this, so I'll shout them at out.
Shout them out at Phil's Tailgate. In the last seven games,
he has started thirty two and two thirds, giving up
twenty eight hits, nineteen earned runs, eighteen walks, twenty six strikeouts,
five home runs given up at an ERA of five
point two three. One of the biggest problems for the

(01:16:50):
Mets have been in this stretch of games where things
have gotten really bad for them. They're kind of going
through with the Phillies in the beginning of June. The
biggest problem has been pitching. They were getting good starting
pitching from guys like Griffin Canning, and it was kind
of out of nowhere, So it was it was a
little bit shocking. You maybe thought it would regress, but
it's starting to regress in a very big way. And

(01:17:12):
Canning's one of one of those examples. So Canning is
hitable and I think with the Phillies line it the
way it's hit recently in the last two weeks, they
are a top five lineup in baseball. Trey Turner's hitting well,
Nick Cassianis is hitting well. I think the only one
really Kyle Schwarber has gone through a little bit of
a dry spell, but even he's made some good contact

(01:17:33):
that has made some big time hits that Cassianis is
again doing well. Jt Rimuto right since Brandon marsh another one,
Max Tepler starting to put up some good at bats.
So this lineups really hitting their stride in the month
of June. And now they're going up against the pitcher
that seems to be on a downward trajectory, so he's
having a lot of problems looking at though, Mick Abel

(01:17:54):
this is baseball savant, it's called, so all the really
the numbers don't look that great. He is getting hit hard,
so his hard hit percentage is not good. Groundball percentage
is not good. Barrel percentage is okay. Doesn't walk a
lot of guys to kate percentage. That's the one that
kind of gets me is I don't like that the
guy with that kind of stuff that seems to be

(01:18:15):
a bit of a power pitcher isn't getting strikeouts. That
means he's not again, he's not missing many bats. Nobody's
chasing and everybody's making contact and hitting him. That's not good. Yes,
with percentages is not good either. Chase percentage not good,
average exit velocity not good. So there's some issues there.

(01:18:37):
Maybe he is able to figure it out, but there's
some signs that at some point his earra probably is
gonna bloon up. He's probably gonna get hit hard and
probably gonna give up some more runs. I just don't
know if it's going to be against this current version
of the New York Mets that are not pitching well,
not fielding well, not hitting well. And here come the
Phillies who have been doing most of that very well

(01:19:02):
and hitting the ball. So I like the Phillies a
lot in this game. Minus one ten seems to be
a good number off you want to go into some props.
I think it could be a good brysonst day. I
think he's good, putting together good played appearances, and there
going up against the righty.

Speaker 2 (01:19:15):
So I think Bryson Stotts. Also Brandon Marsh as well.

Speaker 3 (01:19:19):
Marsh's hitting the ball really well, so I don't know
about home run, but if you want to go total
bases or an RBI, Brandon Marsh could absolutely be in
play there. So I do like the Phillies tonight. The
big play for me would be minus one ten. They're
playing extremely good baseball. Again, as I stated earlier in
the show, they're in like we have a clear picture
of what kind of team they are. It's not the

(01:19:40):
final picture, but it's clear of what kind of team
and the kind of team they are is one of
the best in the National League, one of the best
in all of Major League Baseball, and they are going
to be a championship caliber team.

Speaker 2 (01:19:49):
And I think they continue that against the Mets. So
I like them.

Speaker 3 (01:19:51):
I don't know if it's going to be a sweet
but this would be a good start to it because
you have one of your more questionable pitchers on the
mound in Mick Abeles. So if he's able to pick
up the win that Hayes LUs Lozarto. He has had
some problems, but seems like at times he's getting it together.
It'll be interesting the next couple of games what it's like.
But I do expect the Phillies to win this one tonight.
I like the minus one ten number and so.

Speaker 2 (01:20:14):
Real quick also want to go over.

Speaker 3 (01:20:15):
There was a top ten quarterback list that was put
out by Charles McDonald of Yahoo, and I'll go through
one through ten and you'll notice the omission and why
we are talking about it. Number one, Patrick Mahomes, number two,
Lamar Jackson, number three, Josh Allen, number four, Joe Burrow,
number five, Sean Bernard's favorite, Justin Herbert, number six, Matthew
Stafford thumbs down for Justin Herbert, number seven, Dak Prescott,

(01:20:39):
number eight, you know Smith, number nine, Jordan Love and
number ten CJ.

Speaker 2 (01:20:43):
Stroud.

Speaker 3 (01:20:43):
The one omission that is glaring and why everybody was
talking about it, Jalen Hurts. So the only thing I
want to say is that I think with these rankings,
I would I would like it if you guys didn't
take it as much of an issue too much, or
it's like, why aren't you ranking Jalen Hurts this? Why
aren't you ranking Jalen Hurts that? Because I think, one,

(01:21:07):
it's just meaningless to do it. It doesn't matter they
want a super Bowl? Do you really care? But two,
the reason why Jalen Hurts doesn't sometimes get ranked in
these conversations is because there are things that he does
that these other guys don't do. I would say, like, there, yeah,
c J. Shup probably has a more complete game than

(01:21:28):
Jalen Hurts. Jordan Love maybe has a more complete game.
Gina Smith, Dak Prescott, Matthew Stafford, even Justin Herbert sorry,
Sean Binar, all those guys like more of a complete game.
There are things that they do a lot more things
that they do that Jalen Hurts can't. Oh, by the way,
is this your quarterback rankings?

Speaker 2 (01:21:43):
Okay?

Speaker 1 (01:21:44):
Did?

Speaker 2 (01:21:44):
This is very nice? All right?

Speaker 6 (01:21:46):
So?

Speaker 3 (01:21:47):
And I think what I see here Jalen Hurts five,
like I get it to me, it's a little bit.
But there are flaws though, So I'll just start with
that Jalen Hurts does is a flawed quarterback. The thing is,
it doesn't matter what the Eagles do well and what
Aalen Hurts does well. What the Eagles is He's great
for what they need him to be, and he elevates
when they need him to do more.

Speaker 2 (01:22:06):
That's all I can ask. We're like, yeah, the guy's
great and he's on a super Bowl team. He won
a super Bowl.

Speaker 3 (01:22:10):
Who cares what they rank him or what what the
falls are? Notice that they are there and it still
didn't matter. So like, yes, he doesn't get ranked in
the top ten, but you want a super Bowl? Who
gives a crap?

Speaker 2 (01:22:20):
Sure?

Speaker 5 (01:22:20):
And I agree with that sentiment. There, Uh, there is
not a football argument why Justin Herbert is better quarterback.

Speaker 2 (01:22:26):
Knew I was gonna get that. I was like, if
you're gonna come on the bike, it's probably gonna be
about that.

Speaker 3 (01:22:30):
But I think there are But what because I think
Justin Herbert can make throws and does things better in
the pocket that Jalen Hurts does.

Speaker 5 (01:22:39):
Jaleen Hurts is different flowing twenty seven leads throwing interceptions.

Speaker 3 (01:22:44):
That one that is the complicated that is like why
why I get it? And there is a complicated conversation
with Justin Herbert about playoff success because he's he doesn't
seem like he's the same quarterback. I don't think it's
because they should not have been a playoff team. I
think he's one of the only reasons why they made
the playoffs. Like he played extremely won the regular season.
But the argument that most.

Speaker 5 (01:23:04):
Might say that the quarterback has a larger impact on
winning than any other position on the floor, and maybe
the guy that had just won.

Speaker 4 (01:23:10):
A super Bowl.

Speaker 3 (01:23:11):
That's why I can't get there with quarterbacks, but why
the conversation doesn't matter, and maybe why I am okay
with ranking him as high as number five.

Speaker 2 (01:23:20):
It's eventually like it's on its way there.

Speaker 4 (01:23:21):
Herbert's on the list as well in the twenties twenty three.

Speaker 3 (01:23:28):
All right, I got that right, you got wow Bryce
Young over Trevor Lawrence and Dak Prescott.

Speaker 4 (01:23:32):
I like Bryce Young. I'm in Bryce Young, right, so
I am.

Speaker 2 (01:23:36):
I'm in on it.

Speaker 3 (01:23:36):
I don't know if he's quite there yet, Like Trevor
Lawrence has shown much better flashes than Bryce Young. But
I thought Bryce Young down, yeah, and Bryce Young been
up and down. But I do think like it's moving
in a very good direction. They came out against the Eagles,
and I just watched highlights of that recently. By the way,
TikTok is now a great place to watch NFL highlights.
I didn't know that, and so now I've just been

(01:23:57):
doing that. I've been I watched the Eagles two thousand
and eight or two has a nine NFC championship loss
against the Cardinals.

Speaker 2 (01:24:03):
That was fun. I see like Michelan McCoy highlights. It's great.

Speaker 3 (01:24:06):
But yeah, I watched that game of the highlights of
Brice don't played really well against the very good defense.

Speaker 4 (01:24:11):
Yeah, second half of the season.

Speaker 2 (01:24:13):
Yeah, I'm bought into that.

Speaker 3 (01:24:15):
I would put him more around the twenties, but in
a direction of like I probably think he was a
barely league starter at one point and now he's worked
like moving his way up into he's legit starter.

Speaker 2 (01:24:26):
Just how good of a starter does he get?

Speaker 3 (01:24:28):
But the thing with Jalen Hurts is he is a
Super Bowl winning quarterback and I think he's going to
get better. So like he wasn't, I don't think he
should have been and he wasn't. In the MVP conversation
last year, I don't think he reached he reached that
caliber play in twenty twenty two. I don't think he's
reached it the last two years. He was in the
conversation in twenty twenty three, but I don't think he
ever should have been, and it was kind of proven that,

(01:24:49):
like the whole team was a big mess and it's
not all on Jalen Hurts, but it's just we haven't
gotten that version yet. I think you do eventually get
a version where he is going to be a top
ten quarterback and all of these issues aren't going to matter.
But I think that's why I don't care about the rankings.
All these issues haven't mattered and so far, and I
think moving forward they probably aren't going to matter because
they aren't going to be issues moving forward because I

(01:25:10):
think he's just going to get better.

Speaker 2 (01:25:11):
So that's where I am.

Speaker 3 (01:25:12):
It's just I can't overreact to these lists because I
understand why sometimes he gets left off and that like,
there are some things that these other quarterbacks are doing
that are much more of what you would want an
NFL quarterback to do that Jalen Hurts can't. But the
thing is it doesn't matter. Jalen Hurts has figured out
how to do in the NFL. He's figuring out how
to get better, and he is going to get better.

(01:25:33):
I just to me, I wouldn't put him in the
top ten yet, but I guartan to put him in
the top ten yet. I guarantee I will say this
by the end of next year, I will think solidified,
no doubt.

Speaker 2 (01:25:43):
Jaleen here is probably gonna be a top five to
seven quarterback, no doubt him.

Speaker 4 (01:25:46):
There's no way you think there's ten quarterbacks better than
Jalen Hurts. There's just not.

Speaker 3 (01:25:50):
But I you said top ten, so I would I'd
probably put Hurts around nine or ten. If I were
to do, I probably put him in the top ten,
but I would have conversations about it, and he would
be I'd question a little.

Speaker 5 (01:26:00):
Bit like Baker Mayfield is not better than Dalen Hurts.
I wouldn't go Baker like, But yeah, my list is
right there. What are those names you have issues with?

Speaker 2 (01:26:09):
So Gina Smith has definitely been playing like a top ten.

Speaker 5 (01:26:12):
Guys not better than Jalen Gino Smith is not better
than Jalen Hurts. So C. J.

Speaker 3 (01:26:17):
Strouder would have a conversation about That's where really bad
last year really bad year last year, but the team
was really bad. Sure he'd be just in her right.
It's weird to talk about Houston because they did I
think they Yeah, they ended up winning their division still
winning a playoff game, so.

Speaker 4 (01:26:32):
Houston count it as winning a playoff game. Got handed one.

Speaker 3 (01:26:35):
Maybe he played he played sort of well in it.
But I think for me, like Jalen Hurts, he's gonna
get there.

Speaker 4 (01:26:43):
But he's there.

Speaker 2 (01:26:45):
You want to say he's there, I get it.

Speaker 4 (01:26:46):
What's that ring on his finger?

Speaker 3 (01:26:47):
That could absolutely like he's a super Bowl winning quarterback.
No matter what people are going to rank him, they
can't take that away. Uh, And he is a large
part of why they won, like a big reason why.
But to me, there when people talk about flaws, they
are there. I just think that he's been able to
work around them and soon enough you won't have to
work around him there. They just won't be there. So

(01:27:09):
to me, that's when he becomes a top five quarterback.
And I think again, I'm like I'm saying openly, I
think it's probably gonna happen. I'm gonna see the version
of Jalen Hurts I think is a top five quarterback
most likely this year, and it's it's gonna be very
clear to the point where I don't think anybody will
be able to rank him outside of that or not
even in the top ten at any point.

Speaker 5 (01:27:27):
I think that's where we're at, is where we done here,
Like I mean, I think it's the tier of five
guys is the quarterback conversation. It's Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson,
Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, and Jalen Hurts. That is the
five best quarterbacks in the NFL. That that to me
is the short list there. And I don't really see
a case for other guys playing themselves into that.

Speaker 2 (01:27:48):
I'm not there yet. I'm glad you are. I think
most of it. That's the thing.

Speaker 5 (01:27:51):
It's like you said, the limitations, like what that is
he doesn't throw to slant hard enough, Like what is
your critique?

Speaker 3 (01:27:59):
So it is decision making at times, he he hesitates
to make decisions, especially in the pocket. He is he
is not He does not have great pocket awareness, nor
does he move well in the pocket. Once he gets
outside of it, he's great. But sometimes in the pocket,
I think he runs into pressure. I think he he throws,
he throws off platforms, that he doesn't need to. He

(01:28:19):
basically creates sometimes pressure himself. Uh, and that's not always
a great thing and to and that gets you in
a lot of bad position. But on the on the
other side of that, one makes him good is there's
always an explosive play there. Uh, there is like consistently
moving and change forward. What I think is gonna happen
is once that starts going away, it's going to It's
almost like Tom Brady where it's like every play just
seems positive and positive and positive. There's still the big

(01:28:41):
negative play with Jalalen Hersigo. And I think the Rams
game had a little bit where you go, probably shouldn't
have taken that sack. Yeah, probably shouldn't have thrown the
ball there, probably should have actually thrown it somewhere like
all of that. But it's to me, it's diminishing more
and more that it's not going to be an issue.
It's there, but it's not. And I think I think
this year is where like he takes a leap up,
he's going to be He's already been the guy. So

(01:29:03):
like I'm talking kind of both sides of my mouth,
but it's going to be so abundantly clear that he's
the guy like he's he is going to be the
end all be all for this offense. And I think
it's going to be very very clear by the end
of next season. But just stop caring about the ranking.

Speaker 4 (01:29:15):
You know who does care about these rankings? Jalen Hurts himself.

Speaker 2 (01:29:19):
Do you think so?

Speaker 6 (01:29:19):
Yes?

Speaker 5 (01:29:20):
There was a cool clip shout too fanatics fast come
on right now where somebody asks Peyton Manning on like
an open panel discussion to rank his top five quarterbacks
right now. He said, I'm not doing rankings anymore. I
got an angry text from Jalen Hurts, which I love.

Speaker 2 (01:29:33):
I love that.

Speaker 3 (01:29:34):
I love that, I do love. I bet it's it's
a really friendly like yeah, I'm sure, I'm sure. I
love that though that jailing can go to Peyton just
be like, come on, dude, come on, hell respect on
my name. Love that also, love Thank you Schean Bernard
helping out a little bit. And I knew things are
going to fire you up anyway. I didn't need to
ask you to come on. You would have just done it.
Just say justin Herbert and I appear like you say,

(01:29:55):
Trevor Lawrence and here I am all right, that is
it for green Lee Generadio. We might be back next week.
I'm not exactly sure if we will be, and that's
all up to me. I got to figure out my schedule.
But thank you to Quimby for letting me do this.
He said, Hey, if you still want to do a show,
do a show.

Speaker 2 (01:30:09):
So I did a show. But thanks to Quimby.

Speaker 3 (01:30:11):

Speaker 3 (01:30:20):
We might be back next week one to three, but
just put it on the calendar every Saturday one to
three Green Legion Radio with myself and Quimby. Coming up next,
we're gonna get to some Fox Sports Radio coming on.

Speaker 2 (01:30:33):
Next year on Fox Sports The Game.

Speaker 6 (01:30:37):
No.
