I Cleveland doesn't have a bad defense. We know that
as a matter of fact. Fantasy PFF rank there defense
number one coming into the season. But all right, there
is what three minutes and twenty seconds left in the
second half?

Uh huh?

Speaker 2 (05:23):
All right, Cleveland's drive is stalling? Why are you not
calling a time out? There? You had three timeouts you
wound up going to the locker room with two, okay,
and settle it for a field goal attempt. Uh huh,
tray three minutes and twenty seconds. It's third and eleven,

all right, and that clock is just running, and Jacksonville
is happy that that clock is running. As an offensive player,
would you rather have three minutes and ten seconds with
a full set the downs and no timeouts or two
minutes with all your timeouts marching down the field?

Speaker 5 (06:06):
I think I want to be able to cut as
much time off the clock as possible. I don't want
to score and lead time on the clock for them
to have an opportunity at it. So for me, I'm
okay with the no timeouts.

Speaker 2 (06:17):
You can control. Okay, you're good with the no time out. Yeah,
I'm okay with the no timeouts all right, because you
can control how you stop the clock on the way
down exactly. You can run the ball, you can eat
some of that off.

Yeah, because I mean you go back and you look
at it.

Because I had to go back and watch this series,
so it starting eleven, Yeah, we had three minutes and
twenty seconds left. You know, no timeouts? Why did they
you know? Whatever happened? So they end up getting a
stop and they got they gave up three points there,
so now you go in as ten to three or what,
well did they give up three points at that drive?

So they gotta stop, so zero, so you got us.

You got the ball back with what a minute and
fifty three seconds left?

So you start that drive off and let me just
go through it real quick because I went through it and
took my notes on this, all right. So you started
off the first place was a far start, all right.
So the whole right side jumped off, all right. So
now you start back up and you come back in
no time is taking off the clock. Now you got
a big pass to a no to the tight end.
So you got Kyle Katra that makes that big pass
down the right side. Boom, there you go first and ten,

all right, So now you got a minute and thirty
seconds left on the clock. Then now you get a
big pass to AJ Brown first and ten.

Speaker 3 (07:21):
You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 5 (07:22):
So now you just keep moving then and now it
hurts goes back, makes another big pass down to AJ
Brown for another. Now you got a minute left on
the clock, all right, So now it's second and one.

Speaker 3 (07:32):
You know, so now time is chicking.

Speaker 5 (07:34):
Any time you want to get that drive, you want
to make sure that you take all you can take
all opportunities of that team having the opportunity to get
back and score the order to get any movement going
in the half. So you just keep rolling, don't worry
about the time. I say's second and one. So now
you throw that little dump off pass to Sakwan Barkley
where he thought he got out of bounds, but he didn't.
So now it's third and one. You know what I'm saying.

(07:55):
So you stopped the clock there with fifty third How
much time was up on it? I think it was
fit thirty seven seconds. I think thirty seven seconds off
on the clock. So now it's thirty one and then
now you have a sack. The sack is what really
hurt them in that drive because on that particular play
you had some play some of the receivers opened down feel.

(08:18):
But now you line up with the offensive. Now when
we talk about this play, because I had to go
back and watch this play, yea, the passing strength was
to the right Okay, So now everybody that knows anything
about football knows that the blitz is going to come
from the passing strength, which is on the right side. Now,
say Kwan Barkley is on the right side as well,

but they have zero blitz, so they're showing everybody's coming.

Speaker 3 (08:41):
So what do we do?

Speaker 5 (08:42):
Because the defensive coordinator, who knows coach Stoutlin extremely well,
he says, all right, you know what, I know that
they're going to slide the line to the passing strength
because every offensive line does. So what that that does?
It makes sa Kwan Barkley crosses Hurt's face. Now, every
quarterback in the world would sit up there tell you, hey,
that doesn't bother me, but yes it does.

Speaker 2 (09:03):
It does.

Every time if you.

See that running backs color color flash across his face,
it makes you panic and it makes you feel like
you got to get rid of the ball because you
know there's a blitzer that's coming. And what that does
is when you have Saquon sending them across the formation
to go block a rush that's coming free, you putting
them in space to block somebody that's in space. So
that's why you give up the sack to me you

slide left, keep Saquon Barkley to the right, and this
is taken care of.

I think that receivers could have done. You saw that
it was gonna be zero blitz. Somebody break the route.

Ahead, Davante. If you looked at the film, he was
right open in the middle of the field. I mean,
if it, Hurts would have hit him.

Hurts doesn't see a lot more than his first three.

You know that, Yeah, you know, and then because then
after that, then you get the you get the block
field goal.

Speaker 3 (09:55):
You know.

But to me, I'm okay with the no time because
you're trying to score and not give them an opportunity
to do anything.

I'm saying, you use your timeouts and give yourself over
three minutes to march down the field at your pace.

Speaker 5 (10:12):
You're gonna go a huddle anyway once you once once,
once you get past the two minute mark, I mean,
everybody's going no huddle. So I was okay with them
not calling time out. So I was okay with it.
You just make sure if this this wouldn't even be
a conversation if Saquon Barkley didn't run out of bounds going.

Speaker 6 (10:28):
For the first down. He should have got that that
first down. He was right there and it was a
questionable spot, right, you know what I'm saying.

Speaker 3 (10:35):
Yeah, it was a questionable spot.

I mean I felt like, you know, because he had
the room, but he was trying to get out of
bounds and stop the clock there, you know. But it
just didn't work out.

Speaker 3 (10:45):
Yeah.

It was like two bad plays back to back, and.

Speaker 5 (10:46):
Then you go third and one of you like, all right,
now we're gonna take a shot play. But you know,
because you're you're sticking to the rules of protection and
you slide right and then now Saquan has across the
quarterback's face and then now you're putting him on the
rusher that's in space. Man, that's a problem. Got to
move through this.

Speaker 2 (11:03):
But I want to ask you playing under Andy Reid
and questionable clock management, especially in the first half, I mean,
did that bother you guys? Was that that always errant
time out in the first quarter because you couldn't get
a play in? Did they not trust McNabb calling plays
at the line? Talk to us about that for a
couple of minutes.

Speaker 5 (11:23):
Man, For me, I really didn't care about, you know,
clock management. I'm not looking at the clock. I got
the baddest damn defensive end that I got to sit
there and take care of. So I'm not worried about
how much time is stuff on the clock, what the
situation is. All I want to hear is what the
play is and what the cadence is and what my
guard is telling me. So you know, clock management to mean,
I don't, you know whatever, let's get to it, you know,

(11:45):
but you know, to me, I just felt like, and
now when it did come to if you asked if
we trusted McNab, there were times that, yeah, the play
was coming in late, you know what I'm saying, just
because you know, they're trying to make some calls and
things were going on, and then we will break the
huddle late, and then that makes us have to rush
when we're getting up on the line.

Speaker 2 (12:04):
Scrimmage tide, right, all right, Well that was my That
was my biggest complaint of the game. I actually thought
they should have jammed timeouts down Cleveland's throat, walked into
their possession with over three minutes and one time out
and been able to uh actually it would have been

(12:27):
two timeouts because uh, they would have had to pun
on fourth down, which they did, and uh, clock stops
and change the possession. So they go and all they
have to do is take one time out, one time
out at three twenty. And I don't, I don't, but you.

Speaker 3 (12:43):
Got to stop. I gotta stop.

Speaker 2 (12:46):
You got to stop. But you didn't get the ball
back with uh you got the ball back with one
fifty eight.

Speaker 3 (12:51):
Yeah, but you had enough, which is more than enough
time for us to do what you gotta do.

He was playing for us. I mean he had the
best game of his career. I mean, man, I had
a heck of a game.

What can what can we take positive from this game? A? J.
Brown is a stud stud opening game against Green Bay.
Five receptions for one hundred and seventeen yards in a touchdown.

second eleven with a sixteen yard game converted another third
and seven going way up over Brown's quarterback Martin Everson
called a beautiful touchdown pass with his left hand. Finished
with six receptions for one hundred and sixteen yards, a
touchdown at a game seiling forty yard reception right after
the two minute warning. Tray talk to us about AJ Brown.

Speaker 5 (14:08):
I think AJ Brown is an animal, man, I think.
I mean he is advertised as advertised. I mean, he
is one of the best at tracking the ball, you know,
especially anything that's going over the shoulder and controlling his body.

Speaker 3 (14:20):
Can I whoa? I don't know if you want to,
how do I get left out? Man? What happened here?
All right? You know? Threw off my okay, all right, okay, But.

Speaker 5 (14:30):
Anyway, he's one of the best at controlling his body,
you know, with deep throws and keeping the defender on
his back and being able to you know, position himself
to make some of those big catches. Now, and then
when you get you know, Slim on the other side. Man,
that's one of the top rat runners that's in the game.

Speaker 2 (14:47):
Man.

Now, I think that when you do have two animals
like that, it makes you pay too much attention to
them and you miss other opportunities down the field.

Speaker 6 (14:55):
Yeah, we got the best two wide receiver duos in
the league, without a doubt. I mean, AJ's hands are
just InCred and Davonte.

Speaker 2 (15:01):
Davante's body control, it just it amazes me. I mean,
I guess you have that when you're a smaller player.
You know you have that flexibility. But it's also funny,
like I see him running down the field and I
feel like I'm watching Mickey Mouse. Yeah, because he's so
small and his hands are so big, Like, hold on
a second, yo, Davonte. Whoever you're with, I'm sure they're happy.

But I mean, he's just he's a he's a pair
of running first baseman mits and he can turn his
body on on a dime and it's it's it's crazy, Trey,
how how annoying were was it playing against athletes that
could do that? It just amaze you every game with
a play that they make.

Speaker 3 (15:44):
I mean, you just respect them for what they are.

Speaker 5 (15:47):
You know what I'm saying, It's up to us to
our defensive players to get the stop. You know. But
I think that Davonte is just a really really gifted athlete.
With AJ Brown as well, you know, I mean AJ
is the physically like they are. What how do the
swollen and fast as a slim batman? You know, they
compliment each other extremely well. Uh.

How do you feel about Quinnyon Mitchell GIVINGJJ a load
of grief after he blew that that interception for him?
I don't feel so bad. I kind of think like
Quinnyon was a little over zealous there. Everybody's going for
the ball, and I don't think CJ GJ knows that

Quentyn has that ball in hand.

Speaker 5 (16:31):
Okay, but when you go back here, you look at
that play, CJJ had the better angle because he was
coming in facing the ball. Now, Quentin would quin. I
want to make Quinnyon. I want to make sure I
pronounce his name correctly. Q.

Yeah.

Speaker 5 (16:47):
Q would have been making a catch over the shoulder,
but CJJ was coming facing it. You know. But like
football isn't like baseball where it's like I got it,
I got it. Where you could call a guy off,
you know, so you're gonna have some of those situations
where you know, he just bumping into I mean, he
was trying to make a play.

I think he's been so close three times ready this year,
get an interception.

Speaker 5 (17:06):
He just has Well, how much do you think Slay
what slave pointed out to him about the ball, the
ball not having the stripe on it being a factor
in the game for him.

You know, is that something that I never really thought about.

Speaker 2 (17:19):
The visual We haven't really talked about this, but man,
just just watching Quinnon Mitchell, especially after that Cleveland game,
right because hey, it's it's the Bobby Taylor syndrome. You
don't hear that name called, all right, Bobby Taylor. You

never heard his name during the game. You never heard
his name because nobody threw his way. Nobody wanted to
throw his way. You know this, You were a too
bit of his.

Speaker 5 (17:47):
Yeah, but I don't put much into this Cleveland game
performance just because of Mari Cooper was getting his name
was in trade talks a lot. So you could tell
when you watch the film that he really wasn't, you know,
giving everything that he had out there. You know, I
knew that this game was gonna blake be a game
that if our secondary came in it was physical, that
they would have a good performance. But this is you know,

(18:08):
I want to continue to see right now. I do
think q is an extremely gifted athlete. I think that
he is a lockdown corner. But I don't put a
whole lot of s thought into this Cleveland matchup just
because I felt like a Mari Cooper was just kind
of trying to make sure that he's healthy for the
next team that he goes to. That way, you see
Adams and everybody else is going right all right, getting

through a few things.

Uh. I I do feel like Quinon Mitchell is going
to be the real deal. Oh yeah, having that having
that part of the secondary stabilizing it for a number
of years, I mean, we haven't had that since Leedo
and Sheldon because it certainly wasn't Nabi assenwah.

All right, was just a bad That's yeah, that was
just to And by the.

Way, Cooper dejen let's talk about the other gene, the gene.

The other part of the equation that that was handled
a side punt return duties with an average of twelve
point eight yards per return on five attempts he gets
to start. The nickel position was strong in coverage total
of six sacks, a half a sack at a quarterback hit.
Not a bad day for a rookie second round pick. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (19:24):
I thought he did well, you know, and knowing that
he was going out there and doing all of this
on the defensive side of the ball and then getting
back there and have to take punts is even more impressive.
But I thought that Cooper Dijon uh play extreme home well,
you know what I'm saying. Even when he came in
on one of the sacks, I mean it was a
you know where he came off the left side.

Speaker 3 (19:45):
I mean, you know, it was a you know.

Speaker 5 (19:47):
To me, I felt like that the lion should have
slid to him and picked it up because he is
the nickel cornerback. You know that most of the time
the nicchol is going to blitz. But I thought he
did a good job out there, even being able to
when you saw run he would he was willing to
get dirty in and make some of those tough plays.

two hundred game as an Eagle. All right, if you
didn't notice that, and Trey, you had eleven twelve years
in the league, eleven with the Eagles after being drafted

eleventh overall in nineteen ninety eight. Before we talk about
that play that he made, I'm I'm curious what type
of dedication does it take to your trade to last
that long in the league. You know, former host here
on Green Leeds And Radio, Hollis Thomas played fifteen years.
Brandon's fifteen years. You're twelve. I mean that's a commitment

beyond Yeah, it takes a commitment to your craft. You know,
it's something that you have to wake up. Some days
you don't feel like getting up and going and getting
after it, you know. But BG seems like the type
of person that's waits up happy, you know what I'm saying,
and he's just excited and just ready to go.

I think that also the way they practice now helps
him a lot. You know, it's not as physical as
it once was, so I think that that helps, you know,
with his longevity, you know, and withness being his farewell tour,
I think BG is having a heck.

Of a year. I do as well. I think it's
great he read a sweep and tackled Cedric Tillman with
Jameis Winston in which normally means he's going to keep it.
There was a negative five yards on that play enforce
the fifty two yard field goal, which Dustin Hopkins pushed
wide right, So you can you can say right now,
you know that game would have been a lot closer

if BG wasn't in it.

I mean BG keeps making plays, you know.

It is also you always see him every nine and
then round the quarterback, you know, making some big runs,
especially when it comes to setting edge. I mean BG
is one of the best defensive ends that we have
right now when it comes to setting edge versus a sweet.
