(00:25):
to get out there and swing and ding it.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
Yeah, you know, just uh guess it's gonna go out
there and try to swing it and ding it.
Speaker 3 (00:33):
All right, welcome in to swing it and ding it.
Speaker 4 (00:35):
And John Daly has arrived at Hooters, which could only
mean one thing. Harry mays, what the Masters has arrived?
Speaker 1 (00:42):
Oh yeah, it's officially here.
Speaker 3 (00:43):
That's official.
Speaker 4 (00:44):
Yeah, it's like it's like at the ground high there's
certain indicators and that's that's what that that's what that means.
Speaker 1 (00:50):
Is he playing guitar yet outside of his motor home
in the parking.
Speaker 3 (00:54):
I think he's easing into the week. It appears, you know,
sign some autographs, but uh, big week.
Speaker 4 (01:00):
So we bring on a very knowledgeable person in the game,
our most frequent I would say return guests, the great
Ryan Balangie Golf News Net.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
Ryan.
Speaker 3 (01:10):
Welcome back, man.
Speaker 5 (01:11):
It's an honor. I appreciate that. I like to be
a returning champion. That's good.
Speaker 1 (01:15):
That just got to be like number four or five probably,
I would say, right, I.
Speaker 5 (01:20):
Think that's somewhere in that range.
Speaker 4 (01:21):
Yeah, yeah, and I think it's you know, a lot
of times when there's a major and we need we
need some good knowledge, some good insights, this is where
we go.
Speaker 3 (01:29):
You know, we have to go. But Ryan, let's let's
start things off with you.
Speaker 4 (01:32):
Let's look, we know what the big topic is, but
we like, we'd like to get an update on golf
News Net and see where things are going. You're always
working on new and cool things, so give us a
bit of an update.
Speaker 2 (01:42):
Yeah, Golf News That TV is going pretty well. We've
got distribution to a bunch of platforms, still adding more
here and there, adding more programming as well. And then
we're next big step for us in this journey is
to come out with apps or the major TV platform
so Samsung Visio l we have them already for Roku
and Amazon Fire, but we're going to improve those even
(02:04):
already beyond what we've done, and we're going to kind
of transform those apps from the Golf News Net app
to something called the Watch Golf App, which will be
a platform for streaming for all golf content. So one
thing we've kind of realized in this journey is that
we have lots of great partners, but by having partners,
(02:24):
they're kind of promoting their competitor. I mean, for as
much as I love our partners, we are also their competitor.
And so we wanted to create an app platform and
a streaming platform that was more agnostic, took the news
net out of it, kept the golf and by having that,
we can have channels for all of our partners that
people download the apps once they come out, can subscribe
(02:46):
to those partners, can upload that content, monetize it just
like they would on YouTube acceptance for TVs.
Speaker 5 (02:52):
Instead, we'll be.
Speaker 2 (02:53):
Able to show more fast channels, including hours not just hours,
and we'll be able to do that a whole lot
easier across all kinds of TV platforms, make it really
easy for everyone to access and that wants to watch it,
And for our partners who create the content and want
to show it, they don't have to pay the money
every month to have apps on all of those platforms,
(03:13):
which can compile up in a hurry. So that'll be
coming towards the summertime. We're working on the development very cool.
Speaker 3 (03:21):
Well.
Speaker 1 (03:22):
As we are a day or day and a half
away from the start of the Masters, what is your
impression of the season thus far heading into the first major.
Speaker 5 (03:31):
I feel like a lot of uncertainty.
Speaker 2 (03:32):
I feel like going into the twenty two Masters to
a degree, and certainly last year's Masters, it felt like
it's Scotti Scheffler's world and we're all just living in it,
and yeah, thoesn't.
Speaker 1 (03:41):
Finishing second, Who's coming in second?
Speaker 2 (03:43):
Basically who it's Scotty versus the field, and the field
lost last year and this year it doesn't quite feel
that way. I mean, I think there is a very
clear top three players in terms of performance. Accloyd's the
best because he's won twice, which he's never done in
his career before the Masters.
Speaker 5 (04:02):
That's kind of crazy.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
And big events.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
He wanted TPC Solid Grass for the second time in
his career. Those are big deals. Plamork, how was the
second best player on the tour, hasn't won, but strokes
gained wise has been phenomenal. And then you got Scottie Scheffler,
who obviously didn't get to make a couple of starts
because whatever happened at Christmas with glass in his hand.
But he has played very well, just not to that
dominating level that we came to expect last year. So
(04:28):
I think there's a degree of uncertainty about and then
thrown Xandrew Schoffele. He won two majors last year and
has a rib problem, but it seemed to found something
at the Valspar that gives him a lot of confidence
going into this week. I think you have a core
four players that are probably most likely.
Speaker 5 (04:42):
To win here.
Speaker 4 (04:43):
Yeah, yeah, well, let's do an extensive recap of the
Valera Texas Open. Brian Harmon won right now to the Masters,
but you know, real quick on Brian Harmon right his
fourth PGA Tour win, three shot win Sunday seventy five,
highest final round winning score since John Ram at the
twenty twenty two Memorial.
Speaker 3 (05:03):
But here's a guy.
Speaker 4 (05:03):
He has no top tens in twenty twenty five, he
misses the cut at the Players.
Speaker 3 (05:07):
So there's a lot of that too, right right.
Speaker 4 (05:08):
It seems like just like streaky uncertainty to your point,
but like also some guys that are that are flashing
some some greatness. You see guys like j T speak
like some of the you see like little flashes of like, hmmm,
are these guys gonna be back? I thought I thought
the Brian Harmon thing was was winding down. I always
say to Harry like, I'm not super pumped about seeing
(05:30):
him in.
Speaker 3 (05:31):
The Ryder Cup.
Speaker 1 (05:32):
I just too many waggles from.
Speaker 3 (05:34):
Too many, way too many wagles that little fella. I
think I have a thing against real little people.
Speaker 4 (05:40):
But you know, he gets it done and he gets
to win. It was It was impressive because that was
rough Sunday out there.
Speaker 1 (05:47):
For sure, I will.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
Forever be a Brian Harmon fan because he paid me
a lot of money for that one hundred and ten
to one ticket at the Open. So he can be
five foot zero, seven foot five, I don't care. He
made me some money, so I'm a Brian Harmon fan.
But to your point, it wasn't the sexiest thing. Watch
him and Andrew Novak have a pillow fight at TPC
San Antonio.
Speaker 5 (06:11):
Really the whole weekend was a pillow fight. It was
just tough slending out there.
Speaker 2 (06:14):
So the takeaways I guess for me are Harmon's not
winning the Masters because that doesn't ever happen.
Speaker 5 (06:19):
It's only happened a couple of times ever.
Speaker 2 (06:21):
And then I think you got to take some solace
that Tom HOGI played well. Yeah yeah, makes him a
sneaky interesting guy in the two fifty range for this week.
I'm not saying pick him, but makes him interesting. And
then Matt McNeely kind of popping up again after a
little bit of a down period after that win in November,
and then the good feelings coming out in the West
(06:41):
Coast swing, just kind of down downward trend in the
Florida Swing, So I think those.
Speaker 1 (06:45):
Are yeah, I had Bud, Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2 (06:52):
I mean what he's come from basically just playing for
his life out there every single start, and now he's
in great shape. Maybe he's got a really good chance
of being the signature events the rest of the way.
Speaker 5 (07:03):
It's a hell of a story.
Speaker 1 (07:06):
But I do like the fact that Brian Harmon reduced
the size of the skillet on the end of his
putter shaft coming into this tournament, going with that prototype SKZT,
which I guess stands for zero torque the tailor made
Spider and it proved to be a worthy item for
him to put in the bag.
Speaker 2 (07:25):
That is one thing I have noticed that for all
of the stuff that Lab Golf has kind of brought
to the conversation about their putters, their primary technology zero torque,
and now pretty much everybody is copying it currently or
has copied it, and they're differentiating factors kind of.
Speaker 5 (07:43):
Going out the window.
Speaker 1 (07:45):
Yeah, what did you make?
Speaker 5 (07:47):
It might as well be done.
Speaker 1 (07:49):
What did you make a Jordan's Spee's play over the week.
I mean he showed like Moose was saying flashes. You know,
you saw what he did on seventeen. On Thursday, he
hits it way right. Uh, he's got he's got a
crappy lie with a rock behind his ball about two inches,
so he's got to go real steep on it and
puts it to a couple of feet and makes Bertie
(08:10):
and then on or actually yeah, Bertie on Thursday and
then it did the same thing but hidden into the
finger of the bunker on the left and that big
bunker and ends up making birdie out of there. He
can make birdie from anywhere. It's you know, he's he's
still got that capability. What do you think about him
coming into this week based off of.
Speaker 2 (08:27):
What and then it made immediately think of what he
did at Phoenix where he had to like put it
or something like that under a bush and then got
to the next bush and.
Speaker 1 (08:37):
On eleven that was on eleven.
Speaker 5 (08:39):
Yeah, I mean, just it's unbelievable.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
If if you started playing on the PGA Tour where
you had to start every hole in the woods, Jordan's
speed would.
Speaker 5 (08:48):
Be world number one exactly.
Speaker 2 (08:51):
But they don't. So that's the problem. But I mean,
I think you're right. I mean, I think there are
flashes to it, and he does this every once in
a while. Maybe Speed's back, right, We're we're getting to
the stage where it's been seven years since he last
won a major, and it's kind of getting into Rory
territory of how long has it been? And I know
McRoy has been longer. Now we're in the eleven year range,
(09:14):
but it does feel like how long do we want.
Speaker 5 (09:17):
To hold on to.
Speaker 2 (09:19):
That rope of hope with with Speed knowing what the
roller coaster is coming with him. If you want to
put your US dollars to work on Jordan Speed this week,
I I salute you, but that that is not an
experience I want.
Speaker 3 (09:32):
Well, speaking of balls, in the woods.
Speaker 4 (09:34):
Don't forget t off with top tier balls without the
top tier price. Buy my balls dot com top quality
recycled premium brands for a fraction of the price.
Speaker 3 (09:43):
Go to buy my balls dot com. That's balls with
a Z. How about that segue, right, media professional.
Speaker 4 (09:54):
So we head to the eighty ninth Masters and Ryan,
I saw you shared uh this story today. Brooks and
Ram regrets they've had a few. It seems all right.
It seems like there is that We've heard a little
bit with Rom. You've heard rum links with Brooks. It
seems to be coming to the to the forefront more
and more. What do you what do you really read
into this?
Speaker 5 (10:15):
I mean, I think these weren't particularly big secrets.
Speaker 1 (10:20):
You know.
Speaker 2 (10:20):
Jim Dugen a Golf Global Golf Post wrotal column about it,
slating one source. I mean, maybe it's the same source
other people have that I have, But I mean I
get that. I got the sense pretty early on that
Rom wasn't particularly happy with his decision and thought he
was going to be a bridge between the PJ Tour
in the sud He's kind of forced their hand, forced
(10:41):
the PG tours say, okay, okay, Okay, well we'll just
do a deal. And here we are, almost two years
after the framework agreement was signed, and we're no closer.
In fact, I think we're farther away than when we started,
just because they've had so much time to negotiate, so
many starts and stops, so much had a cold response
from one side or the other at a different time.
(11:03):
And now you've got the Saudi's, particularly the astro Albermayan,
who is stuck on this idea team golf is a
thing people want to invest in, and that's a valuable thing,
and that he doesn't want it to go away, and
he doesn't want Live to go away, and tours like, well,
what why will we sign on for that? We are
trying to take your money. We're also trying to take
(11:24):
your intellectual property. We want Live to be some kind
of three events series or four event series, and that's it,
and we let it disappear.
Speaker 5 (11:31):
That was the point.
Speaker 2 (11:33):
And then they threw him a kind of pitily evaluation
of Live at five hundred million dollars, and he turned
in discussed, I get it, spent four or.
Speaker 5 (11:43):
Five billion dollars, You've got really nothing to show for it.
You want a little bit more uh fluff in the evaluation.
Speaker 2 (11:48):
So then you've got Brooks, who I mean, I don't
think Brooks is happy really anywhere except in the majors
and maybe maybe then only when he gets a trophy.
So that doesn't surprise me. He's not a big fan
of Live. I mean, he's also there winning a champion.
He's won five of them. So for a guy who
doesn't like regular season events, it doesn't seem to be
(12:10):
enjoying himself.
Speaker 5 (12:10):
He's sure making the best of him by making a
ton of money.
Speaker 1 (12:14):
Yeah, when you look at the Live guys, and I've
talked about this with Moots and Danielle, you know, over
the past year and a half or whatever however long
it's been. Well, you know, since we started thinking about
a merger, there's only about six or seven guys that
I really care about on that entire tour that I
think maybe the PGA Tour would sit there and say,
(12:34):
you know, I would like to have this guy back.
I think there's only.
Speaker 4 (12:36):
About most of them are playing this weekend.
Speaker 1 (12:39):
Yeah, because they've won a Master's you know. But you know,
and Neman got a special invitation or a special invite,
he'd be one of them, and then that, you know,
the usual suspects. I mean the rest of the tour,
you know, is it's like corn faery. Yeah, disrespect the
corn faery, but you know what I mean, I don't
think the PGA Tour.
Speaker 2 (13:00):
I would argue there are players, there are a bunch
of players on the Court Ferry Tour that are better
than that.
Speaker 1 (13:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (13:05):
Yeah, and at least they're they're younger and have better
prospects for the future. Their quote unquote farm system is
just bad. It's not competitive. I mean, I've long said
live as a ten person tour, and maybe that's even
kind of generous. I think you're right that that number
of like six, seven, eight guys that you would want back,
(13:25):
and it's from it's Nieman's Brooks, the Shambeau, Hatton, Hatton
for sure, Sam Smith, Sergio DJ DJ and we're and
we're done.
Speaker 1 (13:41):
Only because he's cool. Yeah, I mean, he's his game
is nowhere right now.
Speaker 5 (13:46):
But I mean, does anybody care about golf either?
Speaker 3 (13:48):
So right someonet that guy back.
Speaker 5 (13:50):
On the PGA Tour if he's kind of phoning it in?
Speaker 1 (13:54):
Is Taylor Gucci even on the Live tour anymore? Remember
when he thought he was a big time.
Speaker 3 (13:58):
Player, he's not.
Speaker 5 (14:02):
I think it was the Live Miami event.
Speaker 2 (14:04):
I was like, wonder whatever happened to Taylor Gooch and
even like like oh, just.
Speaker 5 (14:08):
Where I thought he would be this entire time?
Speaker 1 (14:10):
All right?
Speaker 4 (14:11):
And the the Anthony Kim story, I mean, the story
was so much better when he wasn't. The mystique of
him was so much better of him being back, right,
it was. It was great for a couple of weeks,
and now it's just like, yeah, you know, it.
Speaker 1 (14:25):
Would have been a great story, really would have been.
Speaker 3 (14:27):
Yeah, well let's stay. Let's stick with that for for
a minute.
Speaker 4 (14:30):
Like give me your you know, there's twelve guys from
Live give me maybe your top three finishers. Out of
those guys, each of you will start with Ryan and
we'll go to Harry. Who do you think is gonna
be the top three finishers from the Live Tour.
Speaker 5 (14:41):
I'm gonna throw it a surprise and say Patrick Reid Augusta.
Speaker 2 (14:47):
And as much as I hate to say that, he
also showed up to Live Miami last weekend, putted his
mind out, you know, putt it very very well. Kind
of struggle a little bit in some other fastest of
the game, but that's how he plays well. It's but
he does best. So I think he's going to be
in the equation. Kind of think Sergio is going to
be in the equation.
Speaker 5 (15:06):
Wow, Yeah, we're going for it.
Speaker 1 (15:12):
The Fireballs are killing it on live this year.
Speaker 5 (15:14):
They are.
Speaker 2 (15:15):
They're winning the team stuff left and right. Sergio has
won twice on live in the last year. I think
he's beingvigorated because he can try to qualify for the
Ryder Cup again. He's a deepy World Toar member again,
so I think he's interested in one last rob making
a Ryder Cup team as long as.
Speaker 1 (15:30):
He wears those bright red pants and that yellow shirt
on Sunday.
Speaker 5 (15:34):
Yeah, we need full.
Speaker 2 (15:35):
Fireballs really loves it. It's really jarring for your eyes,
but he loves it. And then I think John Rom's
got to be in the equation too.
Speaker 1 (15:46):
Right.
Speaker 2 (15:48):
He hasn't finished worse than ninth in a live event
this year. I think, you know, top tens are really
only thing that matters on live. So he's played consistently,
he's won the tournament, likes the course. Yeah, I could
say Brooks, He's done everything but win at augustin National
I guess you could say Bryson because he's starting to
figure it out. I feel like we got some signs
in that last year, but I'll go with some deeper
(16:09):
guys and cool we think.
Speaker 1 (16:11):
Har Yeah, I agree with you on on Read. In fact,
he's my alternate in the one and done pool this.
Speaker 3 (16:16):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (16:17):
Yeah, that's the only guy that on Live that I
thought of even putting it as an alternate because of
his success there in his terrific short game. Uh. As
far as the second one, I might go with cam
Smith at number two, just simply because of how well
he plays there. He's not doing anything great at all
on Live. In fact, you know, some weeks it's like
he doesn't even show up. But something happens to guys
(16:40):
when they drive down Magnolia Lane that have great history there.
It comes back to him, and I think I think
he'd be my second guy. And as far as third,
I'm out on Ram right now for various reasons, but
I'm gonna go Bryson.
Speaker 3 (16:55):
I like it. Yeah, my three. I was going Bryson Neeman,
Cam Smith, the NEWSS got to.
Speaker 1 (17:01):
Show up in a major Like he's been really good
but not great in majors so maybe this is the week.
Speaker 3 (17:06):
Yep, yep.
Speaker 4 (17:08):
Now the other big story going into this is the
winner on the Champions Tour last week. Oh yeah, and
hell Caprera. What do you guys think about that story?
Speaker 5 (17:18):
I don't think he should be playing this week.
Speaker 2 (17:19):
To be honest with you, I'm kind of surprised that
Augusta Nastional is willing to take the chance and allow
him to come back. With all the domestic violence, twenty
month prison sent and stuff. That pretty shocking, right if
you get anywhere near the leaderboard. But okay, let's do
what happened?
Speaker 3 (17:37):
What do you think?
Speaker 5 (17:38):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (17:39):
I was kind of surprised.
Speaker 3 (17:40):
I was you watch any of the Champions stories?
Speaker 1 (17:42):
I did not. I did not, But they've had very
interesting winners in their past two events as a matter
of fact, But I did not see any of last weeks.
Saw that today that he won and that he was
in the field, you know, as a past champion, you know,
I don't like it, but you know, the guy did
serve time. It's not like this is one of those
deals where he was accused of something and kind of
weaseled out of it, you know through lawyers. He actually
(18:04):
went to prison for a couple of years and you know,
you know, I gotta I got to give the guy
a second chance.
Speaker 3 (18:11):
All right.
Speaker 4 (18:12):
Interesting, I'm very curious to see where how he plays
right having success on a champion store.
Speaker 3 (18:18):
I mean, look Phil, I mean, what did Phil finish
last year? Was he top ten? I know he was
like he.
Speaker 1 (18:25):
And Brooks finished in the top it was it two
years ago? I think it was two years ago, finished
two Brooks.
Speaker 5 (18:33):
Yeah that was insane. Yeah, I don't know where he
finished last year.
Speaker 4 (18:37):
You think Phil is in the top twenty?
Speaker 2 (18:44):
Kind of interesting? He would be better the last two
live events.
Speaker 1 (18:51):
He's an amazing shape.
Speaker 3 (18:54):
I saw a video of him. I had no idea.
Speaker 1 (18:56):
It was like, yeah, it looks terrific. Yeah, I'll take
I'll take a flyer on him in a top twenty.
Speaker 5 (19:03):
Yeah, yeah, an interesting number on that.
Speaker 1 (19:06):
Yeah, I get a number on how many darts over
under that?
Speaker 5 (19:10):
On heel.
Speaker 1 (19:10):
Cabrera is gonna smoke during the four days or two days,
however long you last. I love watching those guys that
smoke smoke. It's so great love.
Speaker 5 (19:22):
He hasn't evolved to a vape. He's still on the
I think he's smoking.
Speaker 1 (19:26):
He's still still with the darts like that nineteen sixty
six photo of Ogan and.
Speaker 3 (19:30):
Palmer, great great picture.
Speaker 4 (19:33):
So we only have three back to back Masters winners.
You have Jack sixty five, sixty six, Faldo eighty nine,
ninety Tiger oh one oh two. So when we look
at the board here, when we see the line, it's
been this similar spread. Right, you have Scotty Scheffler for
fifty rory six hundred and then it dropped. Then you
have Colin Wrikale, who seems to be the darling this
(19:54):
week to win at fourteen hundred. To your point, Ryan,
coming into this, Scotty, you know, I think the hand
injury has been a little bit more than maybe you know,
he's been letting on. I I even noticed him like
moving his grip around stuff early coming back, so maybe
that's affecting him. But he's also a kind of a
guy that, like, if he's feeling it in the week,
everyone else is screwed, right, He's just he's just gonna
win the tournament. Do you think that those odds, the
(20:17):
way that they're laid out are fair in your estimation
going into this, I.
Speaker 2 (20:22):
Mean no, but he's a two time winner of the
three Best Players he's the only guy that's won it,
so I guess if you're trying to wait it from
that perspective, Yeah, but telling me that Scottie Scheffler sub
five to one hasn't won this year, he's trying to
do something only three guys have ever done. That's that's
(20:43):
not very attractive. I mean that, that's I mean, that's
why I've gone with more Kawa this week.
Speaker 3 (20:48):
Yeah, Yeah, that's interesting. Yeah, it's true. It's true.
Speaker 4 (20:55):
When you look at the most bet golfers to win
the Masters, it's it's not Scotty. Scotty's fourth, even though
his odds are first. You have Rory has fifteen percent
of the of the win money, Bryson has ten percent,
Colin more Cowell also a ten percent, Scotty Scheffler has
nine percent, And who do you think is in fourth
place with six percent? And he guesses at speak ludvig
(21:18):
Obert Bear.
Speaker 5 (21:19):
Oh what a terrible mistake.
Speaker 1 (21:21):
Yeah, I did you think a second last week or
last year?
Speaker 2 (21:25):
But yeah, there's two. It's too up and down. It's
hard to write that. It's not speed, but it's hard
to write that wave when you know what he can do.
But also what he don't. When he does go poorly,
it's atrocious.
Speaker 5 (21:42):
Yeah, it's just not consistent.
Speaker 1 (21:44):
Enough for me in your view. What does Rory have
to do to put himself in position h to be
there on Sunday. I'm not going to say win, but
to be in a position to win on Sunday? What's
the Because I have one thing that I know he
has to do.
Speaker 5 (22:00):
I mean, not three put that's one thing.
Speaker 2 (22:03):
But I think he has become an astute observer of
how Scottie Scheffler wins tournaments and seems to have kind
of fallen in love with that. So if he could
just take the Scottie model and no when to play
away from flags, no when to take his medicine, just
try to make pars. I mean, I think he's got
all the shots. They can demonstrate that enough times. Just
(22:25):
you can't crap the bed when it's all on the line.
I think he's kind of learned a little bit of that.
Speaker 1 (22:30):
This year, first round score needs to start with a six. Yeah,
sixty nine, sixty eight somewhere around there, not too you know,
nothing crazy, but he's got to get out to a
better start. This guy's always behind, you know, playing off
the back foot.
Speaker 2 (22:47):
Now, I was looking at the Tigers five Masters wins
and I didn't I knew this, I think for a while,
and then forgot it. Four of his five Masters wins,
oh five is the only exception. He shot exactly seventy
in the first round and for the five, Wow, and
that I just find that fascinating. That was the number
he liked. That was like, hey, I'm I'm not out
(23:08):
of it, but I'm in right yep. I think that's
I like where you're at with it. Sixty eight to
sixty nine, probably more comfortable for McElroy, right, all.
Speaker 3 (23:18):
Right, well we'll get you out of here with this one.
Who's putting it on?
Speaker 2 (23:23):
It's calam more Kala, it's I. It's the only price
worth betting. He's the second best player strokes gain wise.
He's been so close so many times, so many majors,
not just this one. And I know his round four
strokes gain is just very bad to look at. But
if he could just not for one Sunday, he's gonna
(23:47):
win a green jacket. And then from my wallet standpoint,
I hope Seth Straka wins because I will be.
Speaker 1 (23:56):
Didn't more a Kala double the ninth hole last year
on the on Sun Day and that kind of took
him right out.
Speaker 3 (24:01):
Of the Yeah.
Speaker 2 (24:03):
Yeah, he got stuck in a bunker on the left
and then just made a mess of it.
Speaker 1 (24:08):
Yeah. And I was talking to somebody the other day
because I said, that's who my guy is, and my
and my one and done point. He says he doesn't
hit it far enough, and I'm like, no, he's not.
He's not three twenty. He averages two ninety. I mean,
isn't that far enough to put yourself in the mix
with his iron game?
Speaker 2 (24:28):
I mean he second best on the tour and strokes gained,
so something's going right for god.
Speaker 1 (24:34):
And he hits it two ninety and it's straight. That's
the thing, Like he's his accuracy is in saying off.
Speaker 3 (24:38):
The t with that not familiar with this straight stuff.
Speaker 4 (24:42):
But if he says, how about, there's there's one name
out there that I don't there's a name out there
that I'm just not hearing. And it's surprising to me
because when he is on, you're in trouble.
Speaker 3 (24:53):
And that's Hidekie.
Speaker 4 (24:54):
Not seeing much love for Hideki, right and I and
I and that's another guy that like He's down the
board a bit, isn't he He is a sitting at
three thousand.
Speaker 3 (25:02):
He's right with can't Ley and Neeman right around Brooks
kept good.
Speaker 4 (25:06):
I mean, he's you know, he's up there. He's just
you know, Xander's ahead of him. JT's ahead of him.
Speaker 3 (25:11):
You know.
Speaker 5 (25:12):
Interesting since January, it just hasn't been the same.
Speaker 3 (25:15):
Yeah, Yeah, I.
Speaker 2 (25:17):
Think that's probably why I'll throw out. Since we're here,
I'll throw another guy out. I'm kind of into Corey
Connors this week.
Speaker 1 (25:25):
Really.
Speaker 5 (25:26):
I like that the great of the players, he loves
playing here again. The puttings the problem. Yeah, but anything
can happen in.
Speaker 2 (25:35):
Four days, and I feel like that's an attractive price too,
for someone that I don't feel like many people that
aren't Canadian in my timeline.
Speaker 1 (25:43):
He's a terrific iron player, no argument, but he just
doesn't seem to have that killer instinct that you need.
I think he's to really put the foot down on
a Sunday in a major.
Speaker 2 (25:55):
Yeah, you know, I feel like that it only happens
if he either does some kind of incredible sixty five
sixty five to open or everyone goes and vomits all
over themselves.
Speaker 1 (26:06):
Which can happen?
Speaker 5 (26:07):
Which happened, It's happened before it happened again.
Speaker 3 (26:10):
Yeah, now will you? Will you be coming up to
the Truest Championship by any chance?
Speaker 5 (26:15):
Yes? I will. Excited about it to be up up
in Philly this year.
Speaker 3 (26:20):
I think we are.
Speaker 4 (26:21):
We were going to be broadcasting live on Friday from
the Truest, So if you were going to be there
on Friday, let's let's coordinate and have you stop by.
Speaker 5 (26:28):
Well then let's do it. We'll have we'll have a
happy hour.
Speaker 4 (26:30):
I have one of these for you, Philly Golf swing
it and ding it hat ready to rock and uh yeah,
it looks like we're going to be uh be out
there on Friday. We're just finalizing everything now, so that'd
be awesome, beautiful.
Speaker 2 (26:40):
All right, we'll trade some golf News Net merch and
we'll have it even swap.
Speaker 3 (26:44):
Let's do it.
Speaker 4 (26:45):
I love it all right, Ryan Balanjee. Make sure you
were always following reading Golf News Net, Golf News Net TV.
Check it out and we always appreciate you coming on man.
Speaker 3 (26:54):
We'll talk soon.
Speaker 5 (26:55):
Thanks guys, appreciate it.
Speaker 3 (26:56):
Thanks. Let's take a quick break. We will be right
back all right, welcome back to swing it and ding it.
Always great to catch up with our boy Ryan Balanjie.
Speaker 1 (27:04):
Yeah he's got a lot going on, man, always something
happening with Yeah.
Speaker 3 (27:09):
Yeah, he's going for it.
Speaker 4 (27:11):
So Harry, let's kick it off with the course, of course,
the one that everybody knows. But there's you know, there
were some issues with some with some storms. You hear
the guys talking about different tree situations a little bit
of a different look.
Speaker 3 (27:22):
So I'm curious to hear this one from you this week.
Speaker 1 (27:25):
Yeah, the trees on ten apparently it makes the you know,
trying to hook that drive down off the tenth tee
a little bit easier. And on three there was always
these overhanging trees on the right hand side on that
short par for short but treacherous par four that like
impacted guys, you know, maybe trying to take a big
(27:45):
draw up there to try to get get it up
close to the green. Those trees are no longer there,
so that I know, those are two big spots. But yeah,
gust The National Golf Club Alistair Mackenzie and Bobby Jones
is classic, built back in nineteen thirty three. Maxwell has
always also come in here and reshaped and redone some
of the holes. Robert Trent Jones was also involved on
(28:07):
the sixteenth pole later on. But it's a par seventy
two seventy five hundred and fifty five yards. Greens and
collars are bent grass, so no bermuda. Now're going back
to bent grass. Greens, approaches, fairways and the second cut
are all right oversea. They don't call it rough at Augusta.
It's called the second cut moose. The average green size
(28:29):
sixty four hundred and eighty six feet. There's only forty
four sand bunkers that that beautiful white sand from western
North Carolina. Six water hazards, and it's in play on
five of the holes. And that's all the on the
inward nine, the closing nine, the second nine, if you will,
is where the water comes into play. There's four par
(28:49):
fives two, eight, thirteen, and fifteen, four par threes four, six, twelve,
and sixteen, with number four being the long one that
stretches out well over two hundred as they can get
that up to about two forty from that back tee.
Totally iconic. Second nine. I mean, Amen corner is as
good as it gets you see it over my shoulder.
(29:10):
There the you know, raised Creek, and the twelfth hole
which is called Golden Bell, the eleventh hole white Dogwood,
and the thirteenth hole, which is one of the coolest
par fives in the world and probably the prettiest golf
hole in the planet, Azalea number thirteen. But I don't
really need to go into these holes. Everybody knows them.
(29:30):
It's it's the greatest walk in golf. I've been there
for the practice round and I can tell you TV
does it a lot of justice. But you gotta go.
It's you talk about a bucket list, Oh yeah, forget
about there's no bigger Yeah, there really isn't. I mean,
play Pine Valley and go to Augusta for the tournament.
I mean that's something that that I've done, and I'm
(29:53):
feeling I'm so fortunate to have said that I have
done those. But man, you got to get there. I know,
the tickets aren't that aren't you to get you get
in the lottery, which I think starts June first, and
it only lasts for about three weeks. I think they
cut it off like June twentieth, and then they let
you know, like a month later if you got it,
and I've been told you know, each and every time. Sorry,
(30:14):
see it's given another try next year. But you know,
they have the Augustine National Women's Open, which also sells tickets.
So if you just wanted to get on the ground somehow,
try to get in for that the week before. I
don't they don't sell as many tickets, but maybe the
demand isn't all that great either. We're gonna try to
do that as well. So, uh, the greatest golf tournament
(30:35):
in my you know, in my opinion, and just a
magical place and.
Speaker 4 (30:40):
One of the greatest events in sports period, Like I
don't know of anything more iconic than the Masters.
Speaker 3 (30:47):
Yeah right, like I.
Speaker 4 (30:48):
Play, it looks fake. I'm looking right now at live
from it looks like a fake place. Yeah, you know,
it's funny when they when they're not funny, but when
they talked about the storms coming, like, oh, I wonder
if there's gonna be that, I'm like, it'll be fine.
Speaker 1 (31:01):
Oh yeah, you'll figure it.
Speaker 3 (31:02):
Out, It'll be completely fine.
Speaker 1 (31:04):
Yeah. Well, they got the subair system underneath these greens too,
so we could rain two inches well like it did
on Monday, and they're gonna suck all that moisture right
out of there. They'll get these greens the way they
want them. I know they're gonna get a little bit
of rain. I think on Friday there's fifty five sixty
percent chance of rain. They'll get some on Friday, but
they'll suck it right out of there and make those things,
(31:25):
you know, firm and fast for Saturday and Sunday for sure.
But yeah, check out the Pen Club on second I
was over there today hitting wedges for a little over
an hour, and uh, you know, I just still think
they have the four month memberships. And don't forget about
summer too, because it gets really hot and if you
don't want to, you know, you got to practice in
the summertime. You don't want to go out there and
sweat your balls off, right, you know, we use the sunscreen.
(31:49):
It's running in your eyes. You just go to the
Pen Club. He balls for two hours in the air
conditioning and there you go. So check them out at
PC two Kanchi dot com.
Speaker 3 (31:58):
I love it.
Speaker 1 (31:59):
I love it.
Speaker 3 (31:59):
Now we are going to see the line.
Speaker 4 (32:01):
Let me just say this, We're gonna have a major
announcement next week having to do with see the line. Okay,
just just more to come on that. But you know,
let's take a look. We talked about the board. We
talked about it was kind of Scotty versus the board.
Speaker 3 (32:15):
Now it's Scotty and Rory versus the board.
Speaker 4 (32:17):
I know a lot of people that were doing like
the pools where you kind of pick your tiers that
we're looking into doing like or either or like you
could take Scotty or Rory and then it was another
tier just because like that's where all the all the
money is on those two guys. But a couple guys
that jump out to me. We talked about a little
bit with Ryan. I know you guys are all over
Colin Workala.
Speaker 3 (32:37):
I like, can't lay.
Speaker 4 (32:38):
There's a couple guys right in that middle that thirty
three hundred number you got cant lay. You have Lowry
at thirty three hundred and Neieman I like Niemi's a
little shorter at twenty eight hundred, and then a couple
guys in top ten top ten territory for good money.
You have cam Smith for plus three seventy five in
a top ten, speif three point fifty in the top ten,
and how about Lucas Glover in a top ten for
(32:59):
twelve hundred.
Speaker 1 (33:00):
Wow. Yeah, it was working really hard with Jason Bayle
this week. I heard him on his radio show detailing
exactly what they went through, and it's it's pretty extensive.
He's playing feeling pretty good about his game coming in there,
so that'd be a nice play.
Speaker 3 (33:16):
Yeah, what are you like him? What are you on
the board?
Speaker 1 (33:19):
Obviously I got I got more Kawa. I just you know,
he's just so good at everything and he's had so
many runner ups. I just think he's due. I think
he's going to eventually win one of these. And uh,
there's no time like the present, Scotty, isn't you know
at that at the tip top form that we've seen.
I know, Rory's you know, playing better than ever maybe
(33:39):
you know, at least win wise, I don't know. I
think uh SHAMBLEI said, strokes gained and stuff. He's had
better years coming into Augusta without the you know the
amount of wins. But he's got two big wins. Uh,
you know already on on board coming in here. But
I just think, Mari kaala is this is his time,
So I'm taking him plus eighteen hundred, Jordan Spieth in
(34:01):
a top ten at plus two forty, Russell Henley, who's
already got that big win for me at the Arnold Palmer.
I'm gonna go top twenty with him at plus one
twenty five, and will Zalatorus also in a top twenty
at plus one thirty. Just terrific iron player. I think
if his back holds up, I think he'll win one
of these someday. In a matchup, I'm taking Patrick Reid
(34:24):
minus one twenty over Tony fenw And if something happens
to Marikal between now and the start, Patrick Reid's my guy.
Speaker 3 (34:31):
Look at that. Look at that.
Speaker 4 (34:33):
Some pretty interesting stuff coming out of the press conferences today.
Our friend Chris Powers, you saw that kind of got
Rory a little riled up with the question asking about
again speaking to the media, talked about Colin Morikawa, and
he brought up other sports, and Rory said, with every
other athlete, whether it be in the NBA NFL, they're
obligated to speak to you guys after a game, we're not.
(34:54):
And he basically said, listen, if PGA Tory wants to
change it and make us mandatory to be available we're
not we could leave and you know that's that's kind
of But he did not seem to love that.
Speaker 1 (35:05):
Question, of course, not.
Speaker 3 (35:07):
He didn't do his normal Yeah.
Speaker 1 (35:10):
Yeah, yeah, always starts here's my watch. Yeah yeah, see
we can make fun of Rory now Danielle's not here
to scold us.
Speaker 5 (35:24):
But uh yeah I did.
Speaker 1 (35:25):
I did see some of that stuff. It was it
was pretty good. Scott. He's got his uh he saw
stuffed up from allergies. He got really bad allergy attacks.
More cow was asked about it again, He's still standing by,
you know, basically the way he responded, he's not backing
down these guys digging.
Speaker 4 (35:43):
In Hoblin made it an eminem eight mile reference in
the press conference.
Speaker 1 (35:50):
Yeah, you see the sweater he was rocking earlier.
Speaker 3 (35:53):
Yeah, oh my god. How about Bryson's quote. I mean,
he has a way with words.
Speaker 4 (35:57):
He said, it's just trying to get that dialed in head,
that perfect head.
Speaker 3 (36:01):
Yeah, I mean, isn't that what we all strive for?
Speaker 1 (36:03):
Of course, I mean I'm striving for that on the
on the driving range.
Speaker 4 (36:07):
Yeah yeah, yeah, Well, speaking of the driving range, I
know I haven't a mission to make and I'm not
proud of this at all, and I think it's I
didn't think I need to deep look and have a
deep look inside myself by personal situation, my work life.
I haven't played a full round of golf in twenty
twenty five.
Speaker 5 (36:23):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (36:24):
I hate to do it to myself, man, I hate
to do it.
Speaker 1 (36:27):
I need to let that sink in.
Speaker 3 (36:29):
Yeah, that is something that's powerful. Yeah, and maybe have
had like two range sessions okay, and one simulator session.
But in my mind, I'm way ahead of the game.
Just because of that one sim session, I felt so good.
I don't even know if I have to play. I'm better. Wow.
Speaker 1 (36:49):
Yeah I figured out.
Speaker 3 (36:51):
Yeah, I might just I might just pencil in a
lower cap.
Speaker 4 (36:55):
I think I'm good. I don't even need to prove
myself and play the game. I know in my mind
that I'm better.
Speaker 5 (36:59):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (37:00):
Yeah, I never saw it. Not to see this coming.
It's incredible.
Speaker 4 (37:04):
I don't want to go out there and mess up
my what I'm thinking of myself right right, just keep
it indoors. Yeah, how about your game?
Speaker 3 (37:11):
Talk about your game. You've been I mean, you're out
there all the time. I got out You're a wind player.
It doesn't thematic.
Speaker 1 (37:16):
I got out in some awful conditions on Sunday. I
mean it was raining, it's been windy, just.
Speaker 3 (37:22):
Brutal, and that's played a big factor too.
Speaker 1 (37:24):
Yeah, I don't like I got to play, and oh yeah,
I'm not happy about going out in that. You know,
I just do it because I'm like, you know, I
got to play. But I played pretty poorly on Sunday.
And I've had two indoor sessions at the Penn Club
this week. I'm going over to nineteen twelve club tomorrow
to work on some things. But yeah, I played poorly
on Sunday. The first couple holes, just got off the
(37:47):
tee really poorly, and that sets you up for bad
things at nineteen twelve. But did some good things too.
I mean, you know, I'm doing focusing on the positives,
and there were they were definitely positives. The short game
is getting better, the putting is getting better. I made
a commitment to get things to the hole this year
and that's happening. And I'm dropping a few more putts.
You know, maybe they're for bogie, but they're dropping in
(38:09):
you know, So there's that. But I feel sort of
like Max Homer today, you know, did you see Max
Homa on the range apparently hit two hundred and forty
practice balls on the range at Augusta and they.
Speaker 3 (38:22):
Try had a caddy break up by the way.
Speaker 1 (38:24):
His caddy, his caddy left him. Apparently Joe Grinder, who
he'd been with, you know, for his entire professional career
on the on the PGA tour, at least left him.
And he's now with j t oh Lot that that part, yes,
And you know, Homa and Joe Grinder are still great friends.
And he understood he had to do it. I mean,
(38:45):
Joe Grinder needs to make some money and he's missing,
you know, missing cuts week after week after week. That
affects the caddies, you know, I know who they get
a stipend ors, you know, whatever arrangement they have, you know,
per month or per week or whatever. But he, you know,
he needs to make more, so he'll leave. Wow. Amazing,
isn't that? Yeah? And this this Masters marks the last
(39:06):
one for Bernhard Langer, sixty seven year old Bernhard Langer,
two time winner of the Masters. It's his final appearance.
It'll be his forty first Masters. How about that?
Speaker 2 (39:17):
Wow?
Speaker 5 (39:18):
Wow?
Speaker 3 (39:18):
I could see him getting a top twenty.
Speaker 1 (39:23):
Well guy's a machine, right, Like he says, the golf
course is just too much for him. He could handle
about seven thousand yards, but seventy five hundred plus it's
just too much. You think about it, that's like an
extra par five, so you know, four or five more
shots added to the score. So you know he's hanging
it up.
Speaker 4 (39:41):
So now the good thing is have I have some
like golf events each month. Right in April, I'm heading
down to Hammock Beach, and in fact, next week we
have Lewis Giovaccini from Hammock Beach joining us because that
place it looks when don't know, I can't wait to
get down there.
Speaker 3 (39:56):
But two beautiful golf courses. We'll hear more about that May.
I am heading back to Casta the Campo.
Speaker 4 (40:02):
Oh wow, And I actually just booked my round to
our friend Robert Burtel. I mean, I am thrilled about
this because we were a little bummed because Teeth of
the Dog is closed, as we remember from having Robert on,
but we're playing die for and Robert was able to
I don't even know if I should say this out loud,
because I don't know if this is a I don't
want to put this out there, but the super private
La Romana Country Club, which you can't even find really
(40:25):
pictures of.
Speaker 3 (40:26):
He got us on that to make up for the
Teeth of the Dog.
Speaker 1 (40:29):
Absence, which is tremendous.
Speaker 3 (40:33):
A bunch of the boys.
Speaker 4 (40:34):
So we got green we got Greenie, we got Barefoot
Barefoot Dom Tony, you know, cousin Tony, Mike Weiner, and
a couple of Southwest guys, DeMarco, Tommy Eisenhower and Greene's
boy Nate. I think that rounds out the eight. There's
a there's there's there's a full eight of us going
out there. Yeah, so really looking forward to it. Then
(40:54):
I have the Green Valley Member guest in June, and
then Pebble Beach in July.
Speaker 1 (40:59):
Yeah, we'll see.
Speaker 3 (41:00):
So I have like my monthly stuff lined up.
Speaker 1 (41:02):
Yeah, you got stuff lined up. You're paying your penance
right now, you know.
Speaker 3 (41:05):
But I gotta get together.
Speaker 1 (41:06):
I don't want to.
Speaker 3 (41:06):
I don't I want to be playing well for all
of these things.
Speaker 4 (41:08):
So I gotta get I gotta get out there swinging
the clubs like I want to be playing decent for
all of these things.
Speaker 1 (41:15):
You know, you know, the weather's going to turn after
this week. Apparently it looks like it's in the fifties
and sixties for the next week.
Speaker 3 (41:23):
That's what I need, That's what I need. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (41:26):
How's the Legacy Clubs that greening up? Because nineteen twelve
is getting greener by the by the hour it is.
Speaker 3 (41:32):
Yeah, yep, yep, it's looking great.
Speaker 4 (41:34):
I can't wait to get out there and uh and
check it out and then you know, we'll starting to
put the pieces together. Obviously, we pushed our our open
uh to October, so we have some time there, but
maybe putting in another little event in between now and then. Yeah, yeah,
thinking about thinking about something that we might do in
between now and then. So more to come on that too,
(41:54):
But a lot of great stuff going on, Yeah, looking
forward to it.
Speaker 1 (41:57):
You announce the truest thing with us on the Friday
of the truest weekend. Yeah, and of course you tease
the big announcement coming up what next week? Yes, yeah,
so yeah, big stuff happening.
Speaker 4 (42:08):
Yeah, hoping to get everything confirmed because if and we'll
post it on social media where we'll be but obviously
with want everybody, it'll be a Fox Sports to Gambler
Sean Brace the daily ticket, Swing It and Ding It
Combo live broadcast from the truest from Philly Cricket. So
we'll let everybody know where we're going to be, so
you can stop by harass us and heckle us and
throw stuff at us.
Speaker 1 (42:28):
Absolutely beautiful, beautiful, all.
Speaker 3 (42:31):
Right, Harry.
Speaker 4 (42:31):
We'll be back next week with Danielle. We'll be back
next week with Louis. You can hear more about Hammock
Beach and it's Master's Week. There is nothing better in
the world of golf. So can't wait to soak it
all in over the next couple of days.
Speaker 3 (42:43):
Back next week. Thanks for listening, Yeah, but listen, Swing
It and ding It
