Yeah, you know, just guess it's gonna go out there
and try to swing it and ding it.
Speaker 4 (00:33):
That's right. Welcome into Swing it and ding It and
iHeartMedia podcast. This is Moose along with Ma's and Matthews

buying their balls after the water hazard's at three m open.
Speaker 2 (00:47):
Is that what happened?
Speaker 1 (00:48):
I'm here twenty seven water hazards on that golf course.
Speaker 4 (00:52):
Sh need some scuba divers. Need some scuba divers out
there were SBF and of course Riata stop by read
us today and try the new rocket pop Ice. And
we are lucky enough to be joined by a person
who made some noise over in Ireland last week, Riggs,
Johnston Riggs. Welcome to Swing and Ding It thanks, appreciate it, Yeah,
(01:12):
no doubt. So we like to talk about the golf
journey here on our show, and yours is fascinating, right,
I mean, Libby Montana, where you are now? You know,
you go on the PGA Tour, America's DP World Tour,
second start, you win the Australia Open, get into the Open.
(01:33):
Just talk about the whirlwind that is your life in
golf right now.
Speaker 3 (01:37):
Yeah, it's it's pretty crazy. I went from pretty much
having nowhere to play to you know, a couple of
last couple of months of college, got played good enough
to have Canada status and now I'm traveling the world
thirty five weeks probably out of the year, playing on
(02:00):
a TP World Tour. So it's it's pretty crazy. A
lot happened fast, you know, between Q school and then
the wind in Australia and still kind of still kind
of learning out there, even though it's at once so early,
but it just happened fast, and then it almost you
almost had to take.
Speaker 5 (02:18):
It step back and be like, all right, it's not
kind of be like that.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
You know, every week you got to kind of get
into the groove of things and you know, learn that way.
Speaker 6 (02:29):
Well, Rigg's Moose already mentioned that you played in your
first major. Did you have a wow moment, whether it
was like a shot or a pairing the crowd taking
that in, like, what is something that will stick with
you for a while.
Speaker 7 (02:40):
From the Open.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
I mean on Tuesday, we were playing a practice round
and there was a weather delay and everyone was like
supposed to leave the course and I was on nine,
so I just like walked to the halfway house and
a few minutes later Scottie sam Burns and Tony Fenale
showed up because they were playing their practice round and
they were on whole eleven or twelve or something, and
(03:04):
we just kind of hung out at the halfway house
for about an hour and a half. So that was
like a pretty cool moment. I was like, Wow, this
is I'm really out here with with these guys. And
then Saturday, that pairing was Xander. That was That was
a lot of fun, you know, he was he was
such a great guy and a lot of fun to
play with and talk to, and but there was a
(03:26):
lot of people following, you know, every time he walked
up to a green and get a lot of applause,
and yeah, that was. That was probably the coolest, coolest
part about it.
Speaker 7 (03:37):
Really cool.
Speaker 6 (03:37):
Yeah, I've seen some of those photos of you and
Xander walking and yeah, look like you guys were chatting
it up.
Speaker 7 (03:42):
That's awesome.
Speaker 5 (03:44):
Yeah, he was awesome.
Speaker 1 (03:46):
When not playing on the DP World Tour, you're literally
playing the world. I mean, these these guys travel all
over the place to golf courses that you've never played,
and it's talk about the adjustments that you've had to make,
not only just in the travel and setting all that
up and you know, but then playing golf courses that
you have no familiarity with.
Speaker 3 (04:07):
Yeah, it's i mean, the travels pretty hard. I'm getting
getting kind of used to it, getting a you know,
getting a dial learning from some of the other guys
out there that have traveled to these places before. But
that's that's just always gonna be tough no matter how
long you're out there. As far as the golf courses,
(04:27):
I think I'm pretty used to playing courses that I
don't know. I mean, most tournaments that I've played in
my life have been at golf courses that I'd never
played before that week. So it's I think it'll definitely
be a little easier next year when I've seen some
of them. But if you play good, you're usually you're
usually able to figure out a golf course.
Speaker 5 (04:48):
In a few days leading up to it.
Speaker 3 (04:52):
Just some of the places that we go to, it's
it's every place is so different.
Speaker 5 (04:57):
I feel like in America and maybe on the PGA.
Speaker 3 (04:59):
They play a lot of a lot of courses that are,
you know, pretty similar style and but on this tour
you just go to places that are completely different, whether
it's a golf course or it's just the place itself,
like the difference between language everything. Yeah, literally like Nairobi,
(05:21):
Kenya to India to Scotland.
Speaker 5 (05:25):
I mean it's so different everywhere.
Speaker 6 (05:29):
Do you get out and like travel or like check out,
like you know, be a tourist if you will and
kind of do that stuff or is it pretty tough
it's just kind of hotel golf course.
Speaker 3 (05:38):
Yeah, a lot of the time it's the hotel golf course.
Sometimes if we have a really early tea time and
you know, it's easy to get to the city or
do something, we'll do that. Like when we were in Africa,
we did Safari's and that sort of thing. And sometimes
like I missed the cut in Italy, So we went
to Rome for a couple of days.
Speaker 5 (05:59):
So we try to do some.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
Of that, but a lot of the times it's just
kind of golf course to the hotel in back.
Speaker 2 (06:05):
Any food adventures.
Speaker 5 (06:08):
I try to keep it pretty standard with the food.
I don't need to get to stick out.
Speaker 7 (06:13):
Yeah, you gotta be careful. That's the tough part.
Speaker 6 (06:16):
It's like if you don't you want to make the cut,
but if you're in Kenya, it's like I can't do
anything unless I amc.
Speaker 3 (06:22):
So it's like, yeah, you know, yeah, we I mean
we just had like a morning tea time and went
on a safar in the afternoon, and you know, sometimes
the golf comes kind of second to because you like,
I mean Keny or I got to go on safari, Like.
Speaker 5 (06:36):
That's too Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 3 (06:38):
We went on a couple in South Africa that were
really cool. Also saw everything wet birds.
Speaker 5 (06:44):
Yeah, so cool.
Speaker 4 (06:46):
So not only did you make your make your first
major already, but you made the cut, which is a
huge accomplishment. You look at the talent in that field.
You finished with the T sixty three. Talk about when
that moment for you was holy crap, I'm playing in
the Open Championship too, I'm looking to play my best
golf here, Like when did that? Did that kick me
in at any point view? Or was it always like
I'm here to do my job.
Speaker 3 (07:08):
Yeah, I mean I kind of I was there just
to do my job and treated it kind of like
any other tournament. I'm not going to the Open and
being like, oh it's the Open, I don't even care
if I make the cut. Like I'm there to make
the cut and try to play as best as I can,
you know.
Speaker 5 (07:23):
Make some money too.
Speaker 3 (07:26):
So it was it was always kind of like business
as usual. It was really cool, like in the atmosphere,
the practice round and everything. But I knew I was
there to make the cut, and I knew my game
was good enough too, So I wish I would have
played a little better once I made the cut, but
at least I got one of the goals down.
Speaker 6 (07:45):
Yeah, shooting a sixty six on Friday with seven birdies
isn't too bad. I saw this pretty cool picture of
you kind of walking up this ridiculous hill, talk about
the course, the condition, maybe even that photo right there
and kind of take us through that.
Speaker 5 (08:04):
Yeah, I don't know if I've seen that photo. Yet
I hope it wasn't.
Speaker 3 (08:06):
After I hit probably the worst golf shot of the
week out of anyone on sixteen and I had to
walk down that hill and try to hit a golf
ball that's in a foot long of grass at my eyes.
But yeah, it was. The course was really awesome. I
thought it set up good for my game. It was
(08:28):
really fair but tough, and it was pretty cool on
Friday just to kind of have the game kind of
click and get everything going and you know, shoot that
round to make the weekend.
Speaker 5 (08:39):
But I played solid on the weekend.
Speaker 3 (08:42):
Too, just a few bad mistakes that I wish I
could have fixed, and I would have probably saved me
four to six shots just with a couple two three shots.
Speaker 6 (08:53):
Shooting that sixty six was Were you riding adrenaline or
was it like I'm staying in my game one chat
at a time, Like, how how was that stretch of golf?
Speaker 7 (09:01):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (09:02):
It was more more just like one shot at a time.
You know, I got kind of a I got a
good start. I birdied the first hole and then you
know just kind of knew I was. I knew I
needed to finish around one or two over total, so
I didn't need to do anything too special, so I
just kind of played safe and I just kept hitting
shots where I was looking, and then I made a
(09:24):
couple of putts, and then as I got more ahead
of the cut line, I was able to get a
little bit more aggressive, start playing for more birdies, I thought,
And just one of those days when you kind of like,
I'm going to hit it ten feet right of the
pin and maybe dripping if it draws in. It draws in,
and then you hit it ten feet right of the
pin type of thing.
Speaker 7 (09:43):
Harry's familiar with that, Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 2 (09:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (09:46):
Talk about your hometown, Libby, Montana, way up there in
the northwest corner of Montana near Idaho and the border
of Canada. And how does one become a top flight
college golfer and then a professional golfer from such a
your plays like that.
Speaker 3 (10:03):
I mean, I played we have an eighteen hole course.
So I played golf growing up out here, and you know,
picked up a club when I was really young and.
Speaker 5 (10:10):
Practiced a lot.
Speaker 3 (10:13):
But I played a lot of tournaments outside of the
state of because I mean, I just you got to
play against some of the best competition to.
Speaker 5 (10:20):
Kind of get you ready for that. So I played
a lot of golf.
Speaker 3 (10:24):
All summer outside of Montana and kind of the biggest
tournaments that I could get into, and I played basketball
in the winter. I try to put the golf clubs away,
and I think it helped me, you know, develop other
skills and use my athleticism better and kind of not
get burned out in golf. So I was I was
(10:45):
glad to not be playing golf all year round growing up.
I think some kids get burned out doing that by
the time they get to college, even And then when
I went to college and was able to play golf
all year round, I think I used it well and
improved a lot. So yeah, not a whole lot of
guys coming out of Montana, but it's definitely possible.
Speaker 1 (11:07):
Was the goal always to be in professional golf or
did that sort of kick in when you went to
Arizona State?
Speaker 3 (11:13):
Now the goal is always professional golf. I mean going
to Arizona State just kind of solidified it a little
more because you don't really go to Arizona State to
golf unless you want to take it to the next level.
Speaker 2 (11:24):
Pretty good that facility you.
Speaker 4 (11:27):
Have, Oh yeah, that's what I was going to ask
you about that.
Speaker 2 (11:30):
Sorry, no, no.
Speaker 4 (11:31):
You're good.
Speaker 5 (11:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (11:33):
Yeah. So professional golf is always always the end goal,
and I'm just happy that I can be actually doing
it and living out.
Speaker 4 (11:42):
Talk about that exact Arizona State experience PAC twelve champions.
Harry mentioned the facilities. What was that like for you
when you get on campus and talk about, like, you know,
if you could redo life again. Harry, Yeah, that's got
to be. That's got to be on the list. Yes,
you is high up there, right, Yeah, talk about that
that experience for you.
Speaker 3 (12:00):
Yeah, it was just an awesome experience overall. I had
some of the best teammates and I was actually just
one of our like donors that we had during college.
He comes up to Montana for a month every summer
and I was driving through, so I met him for
lunch and we were talking and I was like, some
of the guys I played with, It's it's crazy how
many guys are out on tours that I've played golf
(12:24):
with in college, like Kevin You and David Pooge, Mason Anderson.
A lot of these guys are doing having so much
success that you know, we were teammates and just playing
college golf together.
Speaker 5 (12:38):
Just a few years ago.
Speaker 7 (12:42):
So talk about what's up next with your next tournament?
What are you prepping for now? I know you're back
in Montana, but kind of what is what does this
look like for you?
Speaker 5 (12:50):
This week? Is just kind of relaxed.
Speaker 3 (12:52):
I'm actually being able to play golf with my parents
after this, do a little fishing, went out on the
river yesterday and just couldn't believe how beautiful it is
up here and it was just like a perfect day.
So I'm excited to be back here and to spend
some time and then the next tournament will be in Aberdeen, Scotland,
and we'll leave in about a week and a half
(13:13):
for that.
Speaker 6 (13:14):
So talk about what about your caddy? Is it somebody
you know, is it a childhood friend.
Speaker 7 (13:19):
Or who do you have in the bag?
Speaker 2 (13:21):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (13:22):
My best friend since high school. He actually lives about
a mile away from me. He grew up about a
mile away. We went fishing yesterday. Yeah, it's it's been
fun with him. Hopefully we can start playing a little
better golf this next stretch. But yeah, it's it's good
to have someone that I'm comfortable with and like to
like to be around. With all the travel, especially on
(13:45):
the bag and we're just learning every week.
Speaker 2 (13:48):
Kind of.
Speaker 1 (13:50):
Well, now you got one win already under your belt,
your fortieth in the road to Dubai, which is you know,
like the sort of like the playoffs here for the
PG eight Tour. What do you have to do to
get onto the PGA Tour because I imagine that's one
of your next goals.
Speaker 3 (14:06):
Yeah, I would definitely like to get back to America.
You know, a two hour flight between tournaments sounds really nice.
Top ten in the race Dubai rankings that don't already
have their PGA Tour card get it. So I think
last year it went down to like the eighteenth ranth guy.
Maybe this year it's looking like maybe not quite as
(14:26):
far down, but definitely still still a possibility and still
probably the main goal of mine.
Speaker 4 (14:34):
So rig's the one thing that touched me over the weekend.
I'm a grandmom's boy, right, and I lost my grandmom
about six years ago, and she was super close to me.
And I saw Vicky, your grandmam was able to be
out there with you. Talk about that experience and what
that meant.
Speaker 5 (14:49):
Yeah, it meant a lot.
Speaker 3 (14:50):
She loves more than anything comeing to watch me play golf,
and she's always been kind of a legend out there
in college where my mom didn't hardly miss a tournament,
and you know, you play thirty six full rap like
days in hot weather, and she was always walking the
whole thing, and just you know, it's kind of unbelievable.
Speaker 5 (15:08):
I can't I'm not going to be doing that when
I'm eighty something.
Speaker 3 (15:10):
Your soul, I know that, but she's just such a
trooper out there, and for her to be able to
come across the pond and watch me play in a major,
it's like one of her biggest dreams to do. So
it was pretty cool to have her out walking and
you know, just supporting.
Speaker 6 (15:28):
Yeah, that's really special. That's an awesome moment that I'm
sure you'll treasure forever. I'm sure you probably haven't had
a moment to watch our show yet. But we are
Philly based. All of us went to Temple University and
kind of love the Philly golf scene. So I always
close out our guests with a question asking have you
been to the Philadelphia area, and if so, what is
(15:49):
your favorite golf course there.
Speaker 5 (15:51):
I don't think I've been to the Philadelphia area ever.
Speaker 7 (15:54):
Now is there a Philly course that's on the bucket
list for you?
Speaker 3 (16:00):
I gotta be honest, I'm not really too familiar with
the Philly Association.
Speaker 7 (16:04):
That's okay.
Speaker 6 (16:05):
We have an embarrassment of riches of golf Pine Valley.
We kind of claim that's Jersey. The truest was just
hosted in Philadelphia. So we have a bunch of courses.
But take a look. And when we have you on
after your next win, we can talk about that.
Speaker 4 (16:23):
We'll get you to Philly. We'll get you to Philly
and get you out on some courses for sure. That's right,
that's right.
Speaker 5 (16:30):
Yeah, nice.
Speaker 7 (16:32):
Yeah, So we'll see I'm Marion.
Speaker 2 (16:34):
We're going to say next year at aernom.
Speaker 4 (16:36):
That's true.
Speaker 2 (16:37):
Yeah, well, we're gonna say.
Speaker 3 (16:39):
We're going to say one of your one of my
buddies that did the social media on the SU teams
from Philly and big Eagles fan and we were close.
Speaker 5 (16:47):
Oh yeah, I don't even want to tell you who
I'm at you.
Speaker 3 (16:52):
We don't need to get into that. Once you hear
who I'm a fan of.
Speaker 6 (16:55):
So you're a Cowboys fan, We're just gonna.
Speaker 7 (16:59):
Oh god, we liked you.
Speaker 4 (17:02):
It was going so well.
Speaker 1 (17:03):
I was hoping at least I was hoping it was
at least the Broncos or something.
Speaker 7 (17:08):
No short lived.
Speaker 4 (17:13):
I thought the Carson Wentz sangle from up in that
way it would have brought you some Philly love. Yeah, well, Rix,
we appreciate you you joining us. It's an awesome journey.
I mean, there's there's different ways to do it, but
I think the fact that you're getting to see the
world right now is incredible. And uh, you know we could.
We wish you all the all the best and and
continued success, and we know with what you're doing already
(17:36):
is going to pay off. So I can't wait to
get you back on after your next win.
Speaker 3 (17:41):
Yes, sir, well, I appreciate you guys having me. That
was fun, all right, sounds good.
Speaker 4 (17:48):
All right, guys, let's take a quick break and we'll
be right back. All right, Welcome back to Swing It
and Ding. It awesome to talk to Riggs Johnston. I mean,
what a story. Travel in the World goes from Libby, Montana,
population of three thousand, to Arizona State, pac twelfth Champ
goes on the PGA Tour Americas win's the Australian Open
(18:11):
in his second start on the tour, goes to the Open,
makes the cut. I mean, now he's just out fishing
and hanging out to.
Speaker 6 (18:19):
Sounds like he's doing it right, right, He's like, you know,
taking a little bit of time off, going to play
some golf of the parents fish a little bit.
Speaker 2 (18:28):
Yeah. And I think he was on an all academic
team too in the Pac twelve. So smart guy too.
Speaker 4 (18:33):
Yeah. Yeah, and we showed restrain Harry. We didn't bring
up that he was named after Mel Gibson's character.
Speaker 7 (18:39):
We heard it off this weekend.
Speaker 2 (18:41):
Must have told me that twenty times over the weekend.
Speaker 7 (18:44):
So if he took a shot for every time you
heard that, he'd be hammered.
Speaker 4 (18:49):
So yeah, he played in the Open Championship, and what
an Open Championship it was, and what an all time
performance by Scottie. Scheffler gets leg number three already his
fourth major, and it's incredible just being able to watch this, right,
I say it before I was late, you know, to golf,
and I didn't get the witness Tiger week in week
(19:10):
out in his prime. Him winning the Masters really like
inspired the show to be to be launched. But just
watching him and you see the ratings even when it's
a it's a runaway, are higher and high and higher
because people just want to see greatness. They want to
see excellence, and that's what we're seeing with Scottie. And
(19:30):
now the Sunday of the US Open at Shinnakok is
on his thirtieth birthday. So isn't that interesting? That's a storyline?
Speaker 7 (19:38):
What a way to one of his college is going
to throw Yeah?
Speaker 6 (19:41):
Is this college is going to throw him in the
thirty under thirty little accomplished a decent amount in those
first thirty.
Speaker 7 (19:48):
Years of life.
Speaker 1 (19:50):
Yeah, he's only he's one of six now that has
won four majors before he turned thirty. I mean he's
you know, every time he does something, he gets in
more rarefied and you brought up, you know, tiger Woods,
and you know everybody hates to make comparisons to to
tiger Woods, but I mean we're seeing this in real
time right.
Speaker 2 (20:08):
Now, you know, playing out and you know, can he continue.
Speaker 1 (20:13):
This on for the next ten, twelve, fifteen years, We
don't know, but right now he is playing tiger Woods
type of golf. I mean that I feel very secure
and saying that I watched it before and that's what
we're seeing again. You know, who knows if he's ever
you know he's going to get the double digit majors
at some point.
Speaker 2 (20:31):
Who knows.
Speaker 1 (20:31):
But in the moment right now, when he puts like this,
nobody can touch him in the field.
Speaker 2 (20:37):
He'll be he blows away fields.
Speaker 1 (20:39):
And when he puts like this, when he puts average
to even below average, he wins golf tournaments. So seeing
him put this past weekend was was unbelievable, and it
was it was I know, you've got to make a
TV show out of it, if you're if you're NBC,
you got to get keep people sort of interested.
Speaker 2 (20:57):
He's only six shots ahead of this guy.
Speaker 4 (20:58):
Right, linguistic Jim estics.
Speaker 1 (21:00):
I called it exactly, and I know they have to
do that, and I get it, and it's not easy
to do. But nobody, nobody was catching him, and everybody
knew it.
Speaker 7 (21:09):
Ye justin Ray.
Speaker 6 (21:11):
It's the longest streak since Tiger Woods, who did at
thirty seven consecutive times, and that is holding the outright
fifty four hole lead on tour.
Speaker 7 (21:20):
That was his tenth consecutive.
Speaker 4 (21:22):
And it's interesting when you see you hate the comparisons,
but when you see age one, that the number when
he won his majors, like you know, and obviously Scotty
dealt with a little bit of an injury in the
beginning of the year. At the hand. Obviously he served
his time. He went to jail, right, he's reformed and
now he's on the other side.
Speaker 7 (21:42):
Of that, he's reassessed life.
Speaker 1 (21:44):
You know, time man, he did an hour or two
and then in the jail, so he did some did
some stretching.
Speaker 4 (21:49):
But it is so fun to watch what he is doing.
And he's the most unassuming person. Like you you see
him like on Jimmy Fallon, you see him at the
Happy Gilmore stuff. He's just so like out of his
He's literally like hold it.
Speaker 6 (22:02):
He's like, hey, he just like you said, out of
his element.
Speaker 7 (22:06):
He's like, why do you have to be doing these tours, like,
you know, not tours.
Speaker 4 (22:10):
He's not at the Harbor Bar. You know, you don't
see him out party, you know that Shane Lowry.
Speaker 7 (22:17):
House after you know, he's probably just chilling.
Speaker 4 (22:21):
Yeah, you weren't going to get the Shane Lowry celebration out.
Speaker 6 (22:24):
Of Scotty now or the Bryson tour of the neighborhood
and then every single you know, location up and down.
But another thing Scotty has right here, he becomes the
fourth player to make over ninety million in career earnings.
He's at ninety million, nine hundred and ninety six, four
and seventy.
Speaker 7 (22:42):
No.
Speaker 4 (22:43):
Yeah, I think Teddy Scott's the second highest the PGA
Tour this year.
Speaker 6 (22:47):
Right making Caddy making more than you know, the players.
Speaker 4 (22:52):
So let's talk about the rest of the guys. Harris English,
who's been on a heater right, comes up at clean
second place, got her up for shoot, followed up. I mean,
this guy likes link scoff right, and then you had
the T four. You have Lee, which was a crazy story.
I mean, you know, hanging around that whole time, fits
Windham Clark again plays well in the Major, and then
(23:14):
you get the T seven. You had Xander, Bobby mac
rory finishing out the top ten with Corey Connors who
snuck in there, Brian Harmon Henley and Bryson who if
Bryson did not have his opening round that he had,
he would have he would have been in and running there.
Speaker 1 (23:28):
Yeah, I mean, he gets he scratches out a top
ten after that, opening round seventy eight was really impressive.
I mean he had to scramble to make the cut,
you know, which I think was at plus two if
I remember, or plus one.
Speaker 2 (23:42):
I think it was plus one.
Speaker 1 (23:43):
Sixty five he shot on Friday to make the cut,
and then he pulls out a sixty eight and a
sixty four over the weekend, So really impressive stuff from bryceon.
I was impressed with Dustin Johnson actually making an appearance
and actually staying the weekend and playing some really good golf.
I had an opening round seventy three, but then he
had three rounds in the sixties.
Speaker 2 (24:04):
Some of the old guys like Mickelson, Justin Leonard, Sergio
Garcia all made the cars, which was cool.
Speaker 1 (24:10):
Yeah, and a cut of plus one seems crazy to
me for an Open championship. But then when you look
at the terrific weather they had. They had virtually no
wind to speak of, and there's only fifty two bunkers
on the golf course, which is about half the normal
links course that the Roada goes to, so there wasn't
as many places to get yourself in trouble, I guess,
and with no wind, you know, those guys you give
(24:34):
him a couple of days on that golf course, they
started to figure it out and you could tell, you
could just see the approach on certain holes. But man,
I was really impressed with Royalport Rush this time. I
didn't really appreciate it when they played it back in
twenty nineteen when Lowry won it.
Speaker 2 (24:48):
But this time that place looks really cool.
Speaker 4 (24:51):
It does it? Does it? Yeah? I mean you saw
a little bit of weather and what it did, but
I mean it looked incredible right when when it was
And I get it, like people want to see the struggle.
But I hate rain so much.
Speaker 2 (25:07):
Man, and I too.
Speaker 4 (25:08):
I hate when you have golf plans and it rains
that I'm the other. I don't want to see it rain.
I don't I want to see good conditions in great shot.
Speaker 2 (25:14):
I feel bad for the caddies when it gets like
that too, because.
Speaker 6 (25:17):
When I was caddying one time on the bag and
it started raining, I was like, this has got to
be the worst job one could ever do, especially if
your players taller than you. You have the bag, you're
holding the umbrella up, You're trying to keep the gloves dry.
Underneath that, I'm like, this is for the birds.
Speaker 2 (25:35):
I don't like the interior out of bounds though in.
Speaker 4 (25:37):
The first hole at Royal Pools as wild.
Speaker 2 (25:40):
That's that's stupid to me.
Speaker 1 (25:41):
And if you heard how it was explained, Yeah, it
came about because they didn't own the property to the
left of the first hole. They do now it's the
eighteenth hole, so you know, but they don't want to
change it because of tradition.
Speaker 4 (25:56):
Yeah, well they get a couple of core horses and
cows back out there. Ye accurately, you want to keep
it authentic. Let's go all the way exactly.
Speaker 2 (26:03):
You brought up Harris English.
Speaker 1 (26:04):
He's now sixth in the Ryder Cup standings, which is
an automatic pick, so he's not a captain's pick right
now playing some great golf, has a win this year
and you mentioned got her up. He's twenty second in
the Ryder Cup standings. There's some whispers, uh you know
that he might be maybe a captain's pick.
Speaker 2 (26:22):
What do you think about that?
Speaker 4 (26:23):
Because it's interesting to see like this week, right, I
want to see how he plays coming off of that, right,
you know? Was he just riding a high favorite? Yeah, yeah,
well yeah it changed a little bit obviously because oh
it did. Yeah, see who was at the top, but
just the way they jumped out right, we're recording while
we're while it's in progress. But yeah, yeah, I'm very curious.
(26:45):
And Harris English is like, you know, he's got the
experience he played when they won. I mean, does the
guy look like he gets bothered by anything. It looks
like the kind of guy you'd hate to play against.
Like this guy is just unflappable. So, I mean, lis'sen
not the flashiest guy in the world right now, most
but dynamic person in the world, but a hell of
a golfer. He still where's the old school foot joys?
Speaker 2 (27:06):
I love it?
Speaker 4 (27:06):
I love that.
Speaker 7 (27:07):
Yeah, it's classical.
Speaker 2 (27:11):
Yeah, he's a guy that I see him winning a
PGA championship. That's that's the major. I see Harris English one.
Speaker 4 (27:17):
Yeah, I could see that.
Speaker 2 (27:18):
I could see it.
Speaker 4 (27:19):
So a great Open championship overall, Right, a great performance
out of Scotti. That broadcast tried to bend that thing
anyway it could to Rory, but uh, well I had
him shot.
Speaker 7 (27:32):
I was getting on Brad's thing, like you know. It
was people were just like.
Speaker 6 (27:36):
Come, there's other people playing. It's not just the Rory
show everything else. But it's like, yeah, they tried.
Speaker 1 (27:43):
I watched every shot of his and he played some
great golf, there's no doubt about it.
Speaker 2 (27:47):
But every time he'd get on a little.
Speaker 1 (27:49):
Run, he he'd kicked himself in the teeth with a bogie.
Speaker 2 (27:52):
You know. He kind of couldn't get on that. He
had a what he shoots sixty six I.
Speaker 1 (27:57):
Think the one day, you know, but basically every other
day he was like one or two, three under par
and could never seem to really, you know, sustain it.
I guess he'd get off to a good start and
then make a bogie install. But David Toms is the
guy that Harris English reminds me of from the old,
the old school days, like twenty years ago on tour.
Speaker 2 (28:15):
Okay Davids and he has a PGA championship.
Speaker 4 (28:19):
And I know we walked the line here with Rory,
and I don't want a bached Rory. But like you know,
last week, when you see him like he looks up
at the camera and then he like Pat's got her
up on the back, like he he seems so forced,
and then his his interview when he basically alluded that
he wasn't there to win the Open. He was just
there to celebrate with the fans his his master's win.
It's like, okay, do you, like, do you have that
(28:40):
deep a connection in Northern Ireland? Like how often are
you there? Dude? Like, I mean, I don't know. I'm sorry.
It's just like if you were if you were leading
and Scotty wasn't up by six shots, I think your
your answer would have been little bit different. Yeah, but
here's the problem. When the cameras in your face twenty
four to seven, you could say ninety nine great things,
the one hundred thing is gonna sound idiotic. So I
give him a little bit of the benefit of the
(29:00):
doubt there, but it's yeah, sometimes it's insufferable.
Speaker 2 (29:04):
Sounds like you're coming over to my side.
Speaker 4 (29:07):
I'm telling you neutral exactly. I guess we can cancel
our next brad Fax and appearance on swing it and
diing it. Hopefully he's not listening, Mark cut it.
Speaker 1 (29:18):
Rory's putting so well because of brad Fast is hitting.
Speaker 4 (29:22):
Yes, Yeah, there's no doubt about that.
Speaker 1 (29:24):
And and if it weren't for Rory recommending a mallet
putter to Scottie Scheffler, we might not see this run right, okay, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 7 (29:32):
Harry coming to or defense. What's happening here?
Speaker 4 (29:36):
It's polarizing.
Speaker 6 (29:37):
I actually wanted to you brought up a good point
with the Putters, because Scottie Cameron, not Scheffler, just dropped
the phantom black line. There's four different inspired prototypes we
see it. We saw those probably like four or five
months ago, meaning Brad and I, because we had to
capture all the content and get it ready for release.
But there's the five point five, the seven, the nine
(29:59):
point two are which is like around it in an eleven.
They're tour black finish, mild face custom alignment. They're all
made to kind of be tour inspired. But they hit
shops tomorrow a select Titleist shops, which is July twenty fifth.
But the price point, do you guys know the price.
Speaker 7 (30:14):
Point of these?
Speaker 2 (30:15):
Uh six fifty or seven.
Speaker 7 (30:17):
Hundred and forty nine dollars and ninety nine seven? Would
you pay seven fifty for a putter? Beyond?
Speaker 1 (30:23):
No?
Speaker 2 (30:24):
No? Yes, Moose Moose would of course you would?
Speaker 4 (30:28):
Yes?
Speaker 6 (30:28):
Yeah, So like, okay, well, then is there something psychological
with that?
Speaker 7 (30:32):
Like if you're holding a seven hundred fifty dollars putter, does.
Speaker 6 (30:34):
That help or hurt if you're you know, in a
match with your boys, you know, and you're putting under pressure.
Speaker 1 (30:40):
I'm not good enough to play with a seven hundred
and fifty dollars putter.
Speaker 6 (30:44):
But Harry, would you rather drop seven to fifty on
a putter, a new driver, lessons or a weekend go?
Speaker 1 (30:49):
Well, it's almost you can't get a driver anymore for
less than six fifty.
Speaker 7 (30:53):
If you're buying it new, it's crazy.
Speaker 6 (30:55):
That's why I wanted to bring up this debate kind
of discussion around this.
Speaker 4 (30:59):
I like that three fifty range. I mean, listen, our
friends over at Makefield Putters make a phenomenal putter, and
they do it right, they do it here, and.
Speaker 2 (31:08):
You're not paying seven to fifty.
Speaker 4 (31:09):
You're not paying seven to fifty for it.
Speaker 7 (31:11):
And you get a magnetic clip rather than the bel crump.
Speaker 4 (31:14):
Right, and you can get and you can get a
putting lesson with Dinda while you're while you're at it,
so you get you could get the best of both
worlds if you.
Speaker 7 (31:20):
All for under seven fifty, right.
Speaker 4 (31:22):
Exactly, that's right, that's right. Well, a great Open championship
for sure. The major season is over already, man, it
was it flew by and now about the last major
of the year. But I don't think I've been as
excited for an event as I am for the Ryder
Cup at that page. I cannot wait. It's It's cool
(31:43):
how there's still so much up in the air right now.
But going I we're working on it. We're talking to
to the team that we're trying to we're trying to
put something together, but we're trying to do something like
we did for Truist, but it's it's a little bit
a little bit harder for this one. But yeah, yeah,
I'm curious to see how I say, we're us.
Speaker 7 (32:00):
Citizens, we also want to be paid for going there.
Speaker 6 (32:04):
But you know, you know what actually on that topic,
all these guys who won't play for their country and
want to be paid to play for their country will
show up to the Happy Gilmore premiere and be in
the Happy Gilmore movie for freek dedicating their time and
being in the Happy gill More movie for free, but
go play for my country. Yeah, like potentially the Olympics.
Speaker 7 (32:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (32:25):
Netflix isn't making any money off of that, right, Yeah,
it's kind of the same thing.
Speaker 7 (32:29):
All right.
Speaker 4 (32:29):
Wow, that was an early tease spill, but let's let's
let's roll right into the team.
Speaker 7 (32:34):
Sorry, I'm all with today, All right.
Speaker 6 (32:37):
After thirty years behind the Mike Ian Baker, Finch is
signing off. The longtime CBS analyst announced his retirement and
he'll wrap up his what Harry calls the legendary run
after his final two events. So cheers to a classy
farewell from Harry Mays himself.
Speaker 2 (33:00):
I don't know if I can watch now with no
more IBF.
Speaker 1 (33:05):
But do you think the replacement is why I threw
my hat into the ring. I sent CBS Golf a tweet.
I said, I'm ready, let's go.
Speaker 7 (33:13):
Let's go, put me in the coach.
Speaker 2 (33:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (33:16):
Well, I was listening to h Graham McDowell doing some
of the broadcasting over the weekend the first two rounds
of the Open.
Speaker 2 (33:22):
He did some of the stuff on USA. He was
pretty good.
Speaker 7 (33:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (33:27):
Yeah, it's tough too, because you know, I remember when
Smiley first started doing it, and at first we were like.
Speaker 7 (33:32):
But it's tough and you have to well now, but
I go go back to his first broncast.
Speaker 6 (33:37):
You know, that's the thing a lot of people these
first couple of times, it's like you listen to it,
there's nerves.
Speaker 7 (33:42):
It's just like anything, you know.
Speaker 4 (33:43):
And we talked to brad about it too. When we
have brad on like he has gotten so good at it, right,
But in the beginning he talked about how he just
remained quiet a lot just to listen and hear how
things happened.
Speaker 6 (33:54):
And his wife was Adam Dory would be like, you
breathe into the mic.
Speaker 7 (33:58):
She's like stop it that.
Speaker 6 (34:00):
She was like his number one critic giving him the feedback,
and he'd be like, are you hearing this?
Speaker 7 (34:04):
I'm like, I don't know. I don't know when I
hear that, but yeah, you know, you improved.
Speaker 6 (34:09):
So whoever's out there, you know, we got to give
him a little bit to adown.
Speaker 7 (34:13):
But Harry's proven. I get a I give a thumbs
up behind Harri's name.
Speaker 4 (34:18):
And he can take criticism. We know.
Speaker 1 (34:20):
Yeah, yeah, Sam Torrance, I said Sam Torrance CBS Golf
should hire him. I didn't even know IBF was stepping down,
So now there's a spot bring him in.
Speaker 4 (34:29):
It's terrific. He is.
Speaker 6 (34:33):
This isn't really tea, but something I saw on social
and I thought was pretty cool. Bethpage is parking lot
in the morning, full blown hunger.
Speaker 4 (34:41):
Ay awesome.
Speaker 6 (34:41):
Two to three hundred people show up every morning hoping
to snag will walk up golf spot. Guys are sleeping
in their cars, setting alarms, barbecuing.
Speaker 7 (34:48):
Just to maybe tee it up.
Speaker 6 (34:50):
And a lot of people are saying like, hey, with
all this tech we have, like why does this still happen?
But honestly, I kind of love it. It's old school.
It's pretty like you know, it's like you're way in
line for like a release of sneakers or something, but
it's like you're you know, you're you're earning your round
on one of the best public tracks in the country.
Speaker 7 (35:06):
I think it's awesome.
Speaker 4 (35:08):
It's awesome. When we went Greeny his brother lives in
beth Page, So if you live, you get you could
book advance tea times, which is awesome because he booked
the times for us. But you still, you know, you
got to get there. You don't know it's exactly what
time you're going to go out. But yeah, when we
were there, not like the day before, I think you
get your time.
Speaker 7 (35:27):
Remember you telling us this, like yeah, yeah, And it.
Speaker 4 (35:30):
Was cool because you know, you see the people lined
up for the next day and they're all in their
cars and now it's become r v's guys are barbecuing
and the staff is great. They're out there at four
point thirty in the morning.
Speaker 7 (35:40):
And like everyone's smiling.
Speaker 4 (35:42):
Yeah, yeah, yeah. And you know, you can get on
different courses. You could play you know, the Red there's
the great course of.
Speaker 2 (35:48):
Like five or six courses there.
Speaker 4 (35:49):
Yeah yeah, oh yeah.
Speaker 7 (35:51):
The one guys like this is my two hundredth round
this year. That math is not nothing.
Speaker 4 (35:56):
That was one of the coolest golf experiences I've had
for sure, was going up and playing Page.
Speaker 7 (36:00):
Yeah. I thought that was cool.
Speaker 6 (36:02):
Just seeing them like waiting, you know, it's pretty pretty neat.
Tiger went spotting at the US Junior Championship, but he
was wearing spikes, just you know, going up and down
watching Charlie. But just a total dad move, wearing the
the golf spikes. But imagine playing against Charlie and just
like looking over and seeing Tiger like in his spikes
following like gotta be a little bit of pressure for
(36:24):
whoever's you know, paired with Charlie.
Speaker 1 (36:27):
Yeah, and Charlie moved up quite a bit in the rankings.
After he won that event at stream Song a couple
of weeks ago. That was a big event, and he's
now into the top twenty. I believe in the rankings,
which means, like you know, Division one, big time teams.
You know, he might find himself on with Stanford.
Speaker 2 (36:46):
Who knows.
Speaker 4 (36:46):
You think you think he's going to get any nil money?
Speaker 7 (36:49):
No zero, silly? I think.
Speaker 6 (36:52):
I DMD you guys a picture of was it Texas
Tech or something like that?
Speaker 7 (36:57):
They're a football parking lot.
Speaker 6 (36:58):
It was.
Speaker 7 (36:59):
They're all like amos and like I'm.
Speaker 4 (37:01):
Like that was Texas Texas.
Speaker 7 (37:04):
Yeah, their football team.
Speaker 6 (37:05):
But still I looked at it and like Drew was
saying last week, like it's dangerous to give a guy
that much money. I remember working like when I worked
with the Magic and you know, Glenn Big Baby was
talking about how when he got a lot of money
being broke and then all of a sudden turning nineteen
twenty years old and just getting this cash.
Speaker 4 (37:24):
It was you would get before you get a briefcase
full cash, and now now you can get it legit.
We got a lot of good feedback on Drew last week.
People really enjoyed hearing his perspective on things. So it
was it was cool, awesome. I love it.
Speaker 6 (37:39):
Did you guys see Taylor made photoshop Scotti's hairline or
so we think they have a side by sec embarrasson
of him with the trophy or not with the trophy party,
just with this putter with a fist pump like all
excited closing it out because you know, we saw some
emotion from him, and there's the regular photo and then
there's one from Taylor rate and it actually know, it's
(37:59):
one thing to.
Speaker 7 (38:00):
Photoshop, and it was a bad photoshop. It looked like
they put some like I don't know, they took my
hair and put it on Scotty's head or something. It
was funny, but I was.
Speaker 6 (38:08):
Like, come on, who cares about his airline? And the
guy the guy has you know, just finished a career
Grand Slam.
Speaker 1 (38:14):
Yep, yeah, well not yet oh yeah yeah, h yeah yeah.
Speaker 2 (38:18):
But it was really cool.
Speaker 1 (38:20):
I don't know if you guys kind of noticed this,
but seeing him play that final round with how tongue lee,
they were laughed, they were having a good time. It
seemed like in the moment there Scotty knows that you
know about the fourteenth hole, that he's probably gonna win
the tournament, right, and he was just he was having
fun like it. They were, they were chatting it up,
which is you never saw that with Tiger on the
final day of a major championship, even when you had
(38:41):
it one.
Speaker 6 (38:42):
He was, you know, a tunnel yeah right in there,
just like how you know, Bryson and Rory were didn't
a word to him, you know.
Speaker 7 (38:49):
Scotty's just like, you know, it's fine, We're good.
Speaker 6 (38:53):
Mike Trout shared some Trout National pictures saying like, hey,
we're getting more memberships. Everything's coming together. Of course looks awesome.
Speaker 2 (39:00):
Moose has that. iHeart membership on depth down there right.
Speaker 4 (39:04):
I reached out to the folks there. They say that
they're not really ready to come on on the area yet.
Speaker 2 (39:09):
Oh really, okay, we're.
Speaker 6 (39:11):
Waiting hopefully soon. But that is the tea brought to
you by where SPF. Looking for some protection that actually
works and feels great. Where SPF by PGA Pro Justin
Thomas has you covered on and off the course, dermatologist
tested and sweat resistant. It's broad spectrum SPF that won't
mess up your swing or your skin. From the first
(39:32):
tea to everyday life, protect yourself like the pros shop
now where SPF dot com. That's where SPF dot com
and stay sunsafe all year long.
Speaker 4 (39:42):
Speaking of Ryder Cup, how about the twenty thirty one
in Spain?
Speaker 2 (39:46):
Yeah, that was just an right Valderama.
Speaker 7 (39:50):
Oh really is it Valdama? Because I didn't see it before.
Speaker 4 (39:54):
No, I think it's somewhere I hang on it somewhere else. Yeah,
it's so excited. It's been in a host at the
Cameral Resort in Youirona. I know I'm butchering this, Okay.
I didn't have a part of Spain.
Speaker 2 (40:07):
Yeah beautiful.
Speaker 4 (40:08):
Uh yeah, coast of Barrava, Barcelona, Catalona, Spain. It's in
the northeast. But I mean, you know, I just Sergio,
Yeah yeah, I just.
Speaker 6 (40:22):
Put up ecstasy if I could help you find it,
and I sell from Nuclear Golf that Bryce and de
Chambo supposedly spoke to People magazine at the Happy Gilmore
two premiere and he was telling everybody that he's ready
to take on Rory at the Ryder Cup and quote,
I'll be chirping in his ear this time now if
we go up against each other, I mean you can
be sure of it.
Speaker 7 (40:42):
I'm going to get in his ear a little bit,
so I guess he's not. You know, even if Rory
is silent, he's going to be chirping.
Speaker 4 (40:48):
I love the gamesmanship. I love the gamesmanship for sure.
Speaker 6 (40:52):
For him to be talking about it at the happy
premiere that comes out what tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (40:55):
Right tomorrow. Yeah, I'm hoping I could download it for
my flight to uh Monterey, California. Wow, we want to
be most sixty seven and sunny our two golf days.
I mean perfect Yeah, it's perfection. I cannot wait. I
was hoping to get a get a couple of rounds
in more beforehand, but did not. So we're going out
(41:17):
with the game we have and we'll try our best
out there. Hair. You know how how's the Harry May's game?
Speaker 1 (41:24):
Oh yeah, I'll be I played the other day at Lulu.
I had a pretty nice round, you know, made a
birdie a couple of cars.
Speaker 2 (41:33):
It's it's kind of.
Speaker 1 (41:34):
Like I'm making a birdie or two every time I
go out now, which is really cool because that's nothing
used to happen. So played Bluebell last week on Friday,
and it was came away really impressed with the condition
of that place. Their Greens are great and really nice club.
That was the third time I was over there, But
I like this.
Speaker 2 (41:52):
I'm starting to really like.
Speaker 4 (41:53):
It over there now. I've never played there.
Speaker 2 (41:55):
Yeah, it's nice.
Speaker 1 (41:55):
It's an oral Palmer design too, which is the same
as TPC Twin Cities.
Speaker 6 (42:01):
Oh wow, that's right near Cedarbrook too, right like right
around the corner Bluebells.
Speaker 2 (42:05):
Not far from Cedarbrook correct.
Speaker 4 (42:07):
Yeah, yeah, my in laws live like right across the street. Dry.
I pass it all too. Yeah, yeah, get out there, Danielle.
The clubs at the club's been out for you.
Speaker 7 (42:14):
No, but I did. I know I've said this five
hundred times.
Speaker 6 (42:17):
Don't listen back to all the episodes and you know,
count how many. But I was at Jubiter Hills the
other day and I told Neil, I was like, I
need to come get fitted, like it's time whatever. And
I literally wrote it on my list here, like you
need to get your clubs fit. So I think my
mom might fly down just so we have some additional
(42:37):
help here. I'm going to go get fitted, get all
new clubs, and make it a goal to try to,
you know, start getting out at least once a week
if possible.
Speaker 4 (42:45):
Nice I took the seven wood out of the bag
and put the three wood back in for pebble. Well,
I remember specifically hitting multiple shots with the three wood
and the seven would I just I need more work
on the range with it. I'm losing it. It's Yeah,
when I hit it great and pure, it's it's like
nothing else. It sounds like nothing else. But when I
(43:06):
miss it, it's bad. It's a bad mess.
Speaker 7 (43:08):
So you said you took that out and put one
on the.
Speaker 4 (43:10):
Three wood back in. Okay, Yeah, I took the three
wood out for that, So yeah, we'll see how it goes.

Speaker 4 (45:16):
Oh yeah, he's he is the best, a best, the best. Yeah.
All right, So the three M Open, two events left
in a regular season, cannot even believe it. What Let's
start with the course of course. With Harry Mays, we
talked about the water TPC Twin Cities.
Speaker 1 (45:32):
Yeah, Arnold Palmer designed back in two thousand. Steve Wentzlough
actually did a renovation of this in twenty eighteen. It's
a par seventy one seven four and thirty one yards
bent grass all over the place, so the greens, the fairways,
the approaches, but the rough is bluegrass rough and they've
got it to about four inches this week for the
three M, seventy two sand bunkers, twenty seven water hazards
(45:56):
yes you heard me correct, twenty seven water hazard's on
the golf course.
Speaker 2 (46:01):
And it's in play.
Speaker 1 (46:02):
Water is on fifteen of the eighteen holes. Typical Arnold
Palmer designed the wide fairways. He always gives you a
good you know, forgiving off the tee kind of approach.
Thirty five and a half yards average width of the fairways,
nice and wide. This place used to be a sod farm,
so they got great grass. There only three par fives,
but that includes the eighteenth hole, and I'm not going
(46:24):
to go over to holes because every one of them
is the same a dog leg with water on one
or both of sides and a lot of sand. So
the par five eighteenth holes where it's going to come
down to, somebody's gonna make an eagle and probably win
the golf tournament. So Tony Fen now is a good
history here.
Speaker 2 (46:41):
There's a couple of guys here that have played really
well each and every time. They go sort of horse
for course type of tournament.
Speaker 4 (46:49):
No doubt. Yeah you had Johnny Vegas yep won it.
Speaker 2 (46:53):
Last year.
Speaker 4 (46:54):

(48:45):
what happens with him. Actually, Kevin Kisner jumped out, he's

Nice on this course? But who you looking at here?

putts really well, have.

this week.
