Speaker 1 (00:00):
It is eight oh five here on a Tuesday morning
news radio eight forty whas coffee and company with you,
and we are fueled by Thornton's appreciate you hanging out
with us. How is it almost November? October twenty eighth.
We're just a few days away from November, and that
is crazy to me how quickly everything seems to go by,
especially the year twenty twenty five. It is flying right by.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
When's that Christmas tree going up? Oh?

Speaker 1 (00:24):
I mean probably the Friday night when we get downe
Trinck or treating. You think I'm joking.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
Oh, I don't think you're joking.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
Other people may think I'm joking. You know, I'm not joking,
not at all. And I know that that's viewed as
maybe psychopathic behavior by some, but I don't care. You
can judge me if you'd like. I can't wait. In fact,
I'm real happy that my wife is supportive of it.
She used to resist the early putting everything up for
Christmas and trying to catch the Christmas vibes, but she

(00:53):
realized that, yes, Christmas is such an awesome time of
the year. We should you know, I think we should
start It should be like a six month thing, to
be honest with you, But I know others wouldn't agree,
and that's fine, but yeah, I'll put it up probably
this weekend at some point and can't wait.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
And that's been.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
Isn't it crazy to think that that's where we are?

Speaker 2 (01:11):
It is crazy?

Speaker 1 (01:12):
I mean, it's it's insane that this year is I mean,
we got really two months left and I feel like
it kind of just started. It is crazy. All right,
you're crazy if you don't take us with you wherever
you go. You can listen live on the iHeart Radio app.
Also listen live at whas dot com and if you
listen on the ahet Radio app. Our talkback feature is
powered by Alex R. White PLLCSU Distracted Driver dot Com

(01:32):
and Sue. Distracted Driver dot Com is the big sponsor
of the event on Saturday. What a better There's no
better way to get November started This November first on
Saturday at Paristown Arts District for the rad Revival event.
It's going to be from four to ten pm. I
think eighties nineties vibes. If you are going to attend,
you don't have to, but you're encouraged to show up

(01:53):
as if it's nineteen eighty something or nineteen ninety something.
And I know a lot of those that go to
this event, they really do a great job with costumes.
My wife and I we've got we've got a plan
as far as what we're going to do, but you know,
like any costume party, like I really don't know how
we're going to compare to others. Like I'm hoping that
at least, you know, people can sense what we're what
we're going for. But regardless, I know it's going to

(02:14):
be a lot of fun. The car show, so nothing
but eighties and nineties vehicles in the car show, which
I'm looking at just pictures from the event in previous years,
and I'm seeing vehicles I forgot existed that I haven't seen,
of course, you know since since the nineties. And I'm
sure I'll see many more of those that I forgot
about on Saturday. Should be a great time. And also

(02:35):
the First Car Project is a great, great cause that
Alex specifically is is behind with some other friends of
his and partners, and it's just a great thing to
do for those that I think a lot of people
probably rarely ever think about, and that is those that
are aging out of the foster care system, right They're
starting that next chapter in their life, and they they

(02:57):
maybe don't have I mean, they're in the fosters. I
guess you could. Really there's a lot of different situations.
I'm sure everybody's situation is different, But when it comes
to the foster care system and you're aging out, I mean,
you're probably not going to have the same resources that
some of us may have had when it comes to
becoming an adult and having your parents there for you
to kind of help you make that transition. Again, these
are individuals that are in the foster care system for

(03:18):
a variety of reasons, so therefore they probably don't have
the same resources a lot of us have had. So
what Alex and his group have done is they have
worked really year round to make sure they've got what's
needed to put two different individuals that are aging out
of foster care into vehicles as they start this next

(03:38):
chapter of their life. So this is just a great
example of when you have a cause like this and
you're doing something good for somebody who is in need,
it's still an infectious thing to an extent to where
people want to be involved. People want to help out,
and the different businesses, whether it be a body shop,

(04:00):
a dealership, a mechanic, that when they hear about this
project and what they do, they want to help out.
They donate time, they donate resources, and it's all for
a great cost. So two different winners. We'll find out
on Saturday that they're getting new vehicles, certainly not brand
new vehicles, but new to them and certainly something that
I would imagine can really help them as they make
this transition in life where they become adults. And I

(04:23):
know a lot of folks when they turned eighteen, it
wasn't as if really anything changed, right. You probably just
lived the first few weeks of your being eighteen years
old like you did when you were finishing up being seventeen.
But it's a different situation for those that no longer
can it time. I mean they're no longer benefiting from
the foster care system because they're now adults. So just

(04:45):
an awesome cause and again it'll be a party, So
come on out four to ten pm this Saturday at
the Paris Town Arts District and I would encourage you
to join in on the nostalgia, meaning dress up and
let's live like it's nineteen eighty something or nineteen ninety something.
Should be a lot of fun. All right, let's get
to a trapping a weather update. Have you heard about Grokipedia?

(05:07):
This is Elon Musk's I guess his attempt to dethrone
Wikipedia if they ever were on the throne. I think
Wikipedia is still utilized by a lot of people, but
you kind of know what you're getting there. But I'm
curious as far as if this is actually going to
be like a better version of Wikipedia. But it's now
live and we'll talk about that and a lot more.
Rory O'Neil set to join us at eight thirty five.

(05:29):
It's news Radio eight forty whs. It is eight seven
seen here at News Radio eight forty whas. Appreciate you
hanging out with us. Coffee and company, and you know
we are fueled by Thornton's. So how often would you
say you use Wikipedia, mister John Old? And I would
assume given your day to day, I mean, really, you're

(05:50):
helping take care of a newborn baby with your wife,
so I doubt you're just doing a lot of Wikipedia research.
But when you search for certain things, oftentimes Wikipedia is
the first thing that comes up.

Speaker 3 (05:59):
Yeah, and sometimes you it's fun to go down Wikipedia
rabbit holes and just kind of get random information all,
you know, kind of branching off of what you were
originally looking for.

Speaker 1 (06:07):
Yeah, and I do a lot of just you know,
it's not research for any kind of project. It's just
you know, things I'm interested in. And I think I
may have a different take on Wikipedia compared to some
others because it is an open source you can you
can request to make whatever edit you want. But I
actually think it's way more accurate than people act like this.

(06:31):
It's thrown out as just like huh, Wikipedia, Like who
would trust that? And trust me? Like if you just
know going in, and really you have to do that.
Now with every aspect of the Internet, it's one thing
to like see and read fake news and just question
if it's legitimate or not. That's that's been an issue
for some years now. But now what you see will

(06:53):
fool you, will fool you, and you not realize that
it's not real. So we all need to just have
some blinders on when it comes to the experience that
is using the World Wide Web and knowing that we
have to I mean, hopefully you guys can sense sarcasm
when it times us say things like, well, it wouldn't
be on the internet, it wasn't true because there's a
ton of I mean, in fact, the majority of what's

(07:14):
on the Internet I don't think is true. I mean,
there's no way to know that. The Internet is such
a humongous world of its own. But Wikipedia clearly there's
things you would maybe want to like fact check and
and do a little bit of your own digging. But
actually still think it's it's pretty reliable and pretty resourceful

(07:34):
for a lot in a lot of instances. Now, what
also people don't consider is that if you're just if
it's just something that you get out and you look
up on your phone or like most people who are
going to use AI, it's not because it's not like
they're doing a work project, you can, but like, there's
all kinds of different ways you can use the Internet.

(07:54):
And if we just know going in we can still
have we can still get value and find use out
of certain things, knowing that we've got to maybe do
a little more than just trusting that alone, then I think,
you know, first of all, that's just a why I
think that's just the right way to look at it
because clearly, yes, there's gonna oftentimes, probably always times be
information on the Internet that you can't certainly trust to

(08:15):
be one thousand percent factual. But Grockipedia is Elon Musk's
version of Wikipedia, who he claims is going to be,
you know, it's gonna be, I guess, in his mind
be what Wikipedia claims it is. But I'm curious to
see if it's a if it is a lot different,
because the reason I bring this up is I don't
really think Wikipedia is that is as far as just

(08:37):
the everyday use for just the average person, I feel
like it's still pretty resourceful. So therefore, if this is
in fact better than heck, yeah, bring it on. All right,
We've actually got some traffic issues this morning that you've
heard about throughout the morning from Bobby Ellis and the
fact it seems like every time we get to an update,
there's another issue. So right now, all lanes are blocked

(08:58):
as there is a crash at the east ramp from
Bell's Lane on I two sixty four, So again I
too sixty four. All lanes heading east at the Bell's
Lane ramp. So when you're all lanes closed, that's that's
not good. So again we'll get the latest from Bobby
Ellis right here, right now. Also another weather update on
the way and another sports update, So stick around right

(09:20):
here at news Radio eight forty whas it is a
forty eight final segment for us on a Tuesday morning.
Coffee and Company fueled by Thornton's Tony and Dwight are
coming your way next. They're gonna be live at Jefferson
Animal Hospitals, So make sure you stick around for that.
Been a busy, busy Tuesday morning, and I gotta admit
this was a first for me, John. I usually would

(09:42):
know and have all the details needed to do a
three hour show on it, but it wasn't until Scott's
first sports update this morning that I realized that louis
of basketball place tonight.

Speaker 2 (09:53):
It's not a real game, why exhibition. It's not the
first day that comes to mind anymore.

Speaker 1 (09:57):
But you and I working together as long as we did,
can you? I mean, this is if you really put
it in perspective, this is something you probably never thought possible, right.

Speaker 3 (10:05):
No, I mean whenever you live, eat, breathe and die sports,
especially for a specific team like you do with the
Louisville Cardinals, and then you transition to something else.

Speaker 2 (10:14):
It definitely feels a little weird.

Speaker 1 (10:16):
Yeah, And I John is John Shannon. He was hosting
our postgame show on Saturday on seven ninety and he's
telling me about thoughts on the game and just talking
about the show, and it's just like, yeah, I used
to I used to do that. That was you know,
that was something that you know that was a.

Speaker 2 (10:34):
Therapy session typically refer to the mass it was it was.

Speaker 1 (10:37):
Yeah, it was part of my routine. So I miss
it to an extent. But also I feel like if
I've got to remind myself like hey I used to
do that, or hey it used to be something, I
would be totally you know all all I would know.
I wouldn't I would be able to tell you the
rotation for Bucknell Bison tonight. And I think if I
really did miss it, I would I would feel it

(10:58):
more so than just the occasional minder of oh yeah,
my life's a little bit different now. But right, Yeah,
I'm looking forward to to seeing this team tonight and
and really just hopeful, hopefully, hopefully they can get I
wouldn't say that, well, I don't know, I guess it
all depends on how they perceive it. But I think
the Kansas game was an eye opener. But also I
think they're not I would hope they're not super discouraged
about what they can do this year. But it's nice

(11:19):
to have that test against a really good team kind
of see where you stand against a big brand that
is that is Kansas, and tonight's game another one that's
not real doesn't count, but you could still get a lot.
You could still get a lot out of it.

Speaker 4 (11:31):
Learning process.

Speaker 1 (11:31):
Yep, no doubt about it. So I haven't given I
haven't gotten a chance to give you a hard time yet,
but I want to, because the Cowboys ruined, ruined what
would have been a five leg parlay for me on
Saturday or on Sunday, John, And it's it's it's I
mean the defense. I feel like you you would do
a better job being the defensive coordinator than whoever the

(11:52):
heck's doing it for them right now.

Speaker 4 (11:53):
You know, they showed signs of life last week, and
I don't know whether they were just trying to save Matt.

Speaker 2 (11:58):
Eberflus's job last week.

Speaker 4 (12:00):
The way they played, you could definitely tell they needed
uh digs out there. He's out with concut He's out
on i R for at least four weeks. The bright Spot.

Speaker 2 (12:10):
He's a big weapon.

Speaker 4 (12:11):
He is a big weapon. They are They do have
some signs. They do have some help on the way.
Overshown uh Mart and Overshown who was their stud linebacker
last year out of the University of Texas that filled
in when DeMarcus Lawrence went down, or excuse me, when
I just had a brain fart, it happens that went

(12:32):
to Green Bay. I've already forgotten about him. Yeah, I've
aready forgotten about Michah Parsons was down last year with
a back injury. He stepped in and was just flying
all over the field and then blew every pcl on
his knee.

Speaker 2 (12:44):
And was out.

Speaker 4 (12:45):
And he's just never was so bad. He's just now
starting back. He's in the twenty one day window where
he can start training with pads and go full speed
to get back on the team. That will be needed.
But that defense needs a lot more there. They're small
on the defensive line and and really, if your fastest
guy coming off the end right now is Jadavian Clowney
at thirty two years old, then you need some help

(13:07):
from some speed on that defensive end.

Speaker 1 (13:08):
Yeah, and the defense has really all year been clearly
a weakness that other teams are doing a good job
of exploiting. But then again, like you have moments where
I watched Dallas and I feel like they could beat anybody,
and I guess that is also just the NFL. But
the Cowboys of the are the franchise that I feel
like in all of pro sports, like they should never
not be good. I agree, And at times they're not.

Speaker 4 (13:30):
Times are at times they're one in six, they're one
in fifteen.

Speaker 1 (13:33):
Yeah, yeah, no doubt. All right, So brokoik before we
hand it off to Tony and Dwight at JEFFERSONNTAM Hospital.
Currently still all lanes blocked as the crash on on
I sixty four east at Bell's Lane is causing some
real issues. So been a rough morning for traffic, but
we'll keep you updated throughout the morning here and now
it's time for us to hand it off. So again,
Tony and Dwight coming your way live next at Jefferson
Animal Hospital right here on News Radio eight forty whas
