fire away. All right, So tomorrow is Amazon Prime Day.
Is that me just being out of touch? Or am

(00:43):
I right to assume that maybe that's lost it's it's
luster a little bit.

Speaker 3 (00:48):
Yeah, I think you're right there. I mean I haven't
noticed good deals on Prime Day in a long time.

Speaker 1 (00:53):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (00:53):
I mean, look, I'm sure it's still they're still going
to do really well as far as business, but also
do they have I mean, I feel like we just
had Prime Day not that long ago, So do they
have multiple Prime Days throughout the year? I mean, look,
you can if you are selling something, I mean you can.
You can spend it however you want that. It's a
big day for deals and this is a great sale.

(01:14):
And I think you know this, even if it is
considered to be cheaper and you can get it at
a better rate because of this special promotional day, even
if it is discounted, it still may not be worth
buying for a lot of people who are counting their
money more than they ever have, because you know, it's
just how things are right now.

Speaker 3 (01:32):
Yeah, you can get like for example, some of one
site has out as one of their favorites USB C
charger Okay, normally thirty dollars twenty dollars at Amazon.

Speaker 4 (01:44):
All right.

Speaker 3 (01:44):
I understand some people are big on you know, ten
dollars is ten dollars to a lot of people.

Speaker 4 (01:48):
I get that. I don't want to diminish that at all.

Speaker 3 (01:50):
But if you're talking for all the hype to your
point that's putting around Amazon, now, the only thing I
can see that really might be worth it is this
basically forty five why power charge?

Speaker 4 (02:01):
You know those power chargers you can buy.

Speaker 3 (02:03):
Yeah, hordable batteries. Well they got one. Normally goes for
one hundred dollars. They're gonna sell it for sixty six.
So these are coming up.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
I mean, that's that's okay. Yeah, there's legitimate savings. Yeah,
trust me, I don't say this is if I'm made
of money and it doesn't matter. That's not the case
at all. But I am not somebody that's ever. It's
really ignorance on my end, I suppose, but I don't
really pay that much attention because if something's like within
a certain range, if I can get it, you know,
if something's one hundred dollars and I can get it

(02:31):
for eighty five.

Speaker 1 (02:33):
Again, it's just ignorance for me.

Speaker 2 (02:34):
I know, I'm not really gonna think a whole lot
about that fifteen dollars in savings, because eighty five and
one hundred dollars is relatively the same amount of money,
even though like it's technically not. Again, I'm sure I'm
just standing. I'm sounding like a real idiot here, But
I don't hunt for deals. But there are certain people
that will, really, I mean, it's it's not just the
fact that they are mindful with their money.

Speaker 1 (02:54):
They're smart, smarter than me, I'm sure.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
But there's also like that's that that internal win if
you took advantage of a deal and you got to sale, right,
that's all. It's one of the best things about just
free marketing, free promo. If you are given, if you've
got a good deal going on. You have some people
I guess that are gatekeepers, right, they want to they
want to keep it to themselves. But people, it's just
natural for folks to want to share if they had

(03:19):
a good experience or they got a deal, because it's
almost like they're bragging, right like, hey, I found this
for you know, thirty percent off or whatever it may be.
So again, I don't want to come off like yeah, whatever,
just just you know, take my money. I don't care
what the price of anything is. Trust me, I work
in radio. It's not it's not it's not my reality, right,
But I just I never look at the price when
I get gas right here, And again it's not because

(03:41):
I'm just not not caring at all about when anything costs.
But to me, they're always going to be relatively the
same in price to where I just don't. I don't,
I don't see a whole lot of benefit and maybe
driving a couple more miles down the road to get
gas that's, you know, maybe five cents cheaper.

Speaker 4 (03:58):
We used to do that.

Speaker 3 (03:59):
That was one of my pet peeves in this business
when people would run the story.

Speaker 5 (04:02):
Oh, gas prices, you're going to savor it's five dollars
cheaper or five cents cheaper, because.

Speaker 3 (04:08):
My stepfather would do that. He'd be that person that
drives all the way over to say. And when you
did the math, for example, if you had a ten
gallon tank and it was maybe twenty cents cheaper somewhere else,
and you did the math, you'd say, or you fill
up ten dollars, you'd say, what two dollars. But now,
don't get me wrong, if you're a business owner, you
really pay attention to that because you have a whole

(04:28):
fleet that you have to fill and you don't want
them to pay. You don't want to pass that onto
your customers. I totally understand, but I'm with you. If
I see gas one day at two seventy eight, and
then I go down the road and I see it,
somebody's got it for two sixty nine, not a whole
lot's lost on me.

Speaker 2 (04:45):
Yeah, I'm you know, I'm with you, And there you can.
You don't have to look hard on the internet to
find people who have highlighted Prime Day as maybe being
manipulated deals, and there's many examples of it. And Amazon,
you know, they regularly list prices weeks before Prime Day
to exaggerate savings, which has probably been a thing long

(05:06):
before Amazon even existed, Right, That's probably been part of
the process of manipulating, manipulating people to think they're getting
a big deal, but it's only a deal because for
ten days we actually jacked up the price and you
didn't notice because you weren't looking, we weren't letting you know, right,
And that's just that's I mean, look, a lot of
us are suckers when it comes to a lot of

(05:27):
things we spend money on. And I find myself sometimes
really fascinated with just how easily manipulated we can be
to purchase things. But then again, I try not to
at times because I'm like, wait a second, that's and
then I started thinking about everything that I buy and
what I do, and I'm like, they did they get me?
You know, they find a way to tell me I

(05:47):
needed this when I really didn't. Which again, the more
I think about that, the more I worry about maybe
maybe I'm the ultimate sucker.

Speaker 3 (05:53):
Well, no, you know when you're gonna have you gotten
to the point now where like let's say I was mining,
we grilled out hamburgs last night, and how was that
person who said, there, okay, this this pound of hamburg
is seven dollars in fifty two cents. Wait, this one's
seven dollars and forty eight cents. So I bought the
seven dollars forty eight cent one.

Speaker 1 (06:12):
Yeah, I mean, you know you're in trouble with shit there. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (06:15):
And there's also a psychological aspect to this as well,
when it comes to just pressure, like you've got lightning
deals and invite only deals, right, and there are enough
people in society that'll be triggered by fomo fear of
missing out, and it'll it it. That's that's another aspect
of being manipulated, if you if the perception of something
is just.

Speaker 1 (06:34):
I gotta be a part of that.

Speaker 2 (06:35):
I gotta I gotta get involved, I gotta I gotta
be in. There's enough people that'll that'll that'll fall into
that trap.

Speaker 4 (06:42):
Let me let me ask you this.

Speaker 3 (06:43):
If you go to the store and let's just say
they have bags of chips on sale, and they say
they're three for six dollars. Okay, so you're two dollars
back and they're normally two fifty back. Whatever, do you
buy this the three bags so you can get them
three for six?

Speaker 1 (06:57):
No, because I don't even pay attention. But again it's
because I'm an idiot.

Speaker 5 (07:02):
No, you're smart, dude, You're smart because what happens is
you end up spending more than what you want to spend,
so ultimately, by you not paying attention, you're a better shopper.

Speaker 1 (07:12):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (07:12):
I think when I say I'm an idiot's just because,
like I'm sure I've paid more for things that I
that I you know, that I could have got cheaper
and just wasn't paying attention. But also, I guess, more
than anything, I just know when I'm spending money on
certain things, I know I don't need it, so therefore
it's you know, I've already felt like I'm paying I'm
spending money on something that I don't really need to have,

(07:32):
so it's already money lost. I guess I'm trying to
rationalize why I just at times you know, again, I'm
kind of a grown up.

Speaker 4 (07:39):
You know.

Speaker 2 (07:40):
I have this plastic debit card that I that I
use and it helps keep me with gas in my
car and food in my stomach and beard in my fridge.

Speaker 1 (07:48):
My wife handles all.

Speaker 2 (07:49):
Of our finances, so that's that's helped me from having
to actually, you know, grow up and deal with a
lot of financial stress that people deal with.

Speaker 4 (07:57):
So are you saying you get an allowance? Is that it?

Speaker 2 (07:59):
No? Oh, I mean, I just I don't have an
allowance that I know of. But you know, I'll put
it this way. It's always worked. Now Again, I don't
spend much money on things because I'm a pretty simple guy,
right I don't. I'm not out buying lavish things or
anything like that. But yeah, that's one of the many
reasons why I'm thankful for my lovely wife. All right,
let's get to a quick time out. We've got trafficing
weather updates on the way. Roy O'Neil of NBC News

(08:20):
set to join us coming up here at eight thirty five,
and we'll talk about potential piece in the Middle East.
Well that come before we get the government shut down
to an end. Also, the Mark Sanchez story is wild.
We'll talk about that and a lot more right here
on News Radio eight forty whas. It is eight eighteen
here at news Radio eight forty whas.

Speaker 1 (08:39):
Thanks for hanging out with us.

Speaker 2 (08:40):
Coffee and company with you, and we are fueled by
Thornton's So coming up at eight thirty five, Roory O'Neil
is going to join us as we'll discuss potential peace
in the Middle East, also the government shut down and
the Mark Sanchez story. Former quarterback now an analyst for Fox,
and I kind of feel like this we now have

(09:01):
a good idea of really what went on. It's just
very unusual and it does leave you wondering who really
is ultimately at fault here, And I would say both
sides share some blame for the situation turning into what
it turned into, but there's also some things where you
can sometimes there's an explanation as to how things got

(09:22):
so I guess out of hand here And for those
who don't know, Mark Sanchez was stabbed and was in
the hospital in critical condition over the weekend, but he
was also charged with misdemeanors because of his involvement in
a violent situation where a fight broke out, he was stabbed.
But the guy who stabbed him as an elderly man

(09:43):
who says that he was sixty nine years old, so
not elderly, but an older man. But if I'm just
guessing here, I think the fact that it was late
at night, Sanchez probably was drunk, and that's a factor
for sure, But the older driver did not have hearing
aids in. And I just think when you can't communicate

(10:04):
effectively and people don't know why, and you're in that
setting that late at night, maybe that maybe that's the
ultimate reason as to how things just got heated to
where physical altercation took place. Well we'll talk to Rory
about that coming up here in just a few minutes.
But yeah, that's, uh, that's an odd.

Speaker 1 (10:20):
Story to uh, to say the least.

Speaker 2 (10:22):
All Right, so this is something I was totally in
the minority on, I guess. But did you see that
Burger King has finally ditched the King mascot Scott.

Speaker 1 (10:32):
This story here says they dished the creepy King. I
thought the King was awesome, Yeah he was.

Speaker 4 (10:37):
Remember the year he made the appearance behind Bob Bafford.

Speaker 1 (10:39):
Oh my gosh, Yes, that was funny. Yeah, and then
you know what he did.

Speaker 2 (10:43):
I think it was that same night he ended up
being he walked out with Foyd Medwether when he bucked
with many pakia like the King randomly appearing places.

Speaker 1 (10:52):
I thought was brilliant marketing.

Speaker 2 (10:54):
Right, But they claimed that the creepy King was a
marketing fixture and really really was twenty two thousand and
four to twenty eleven and then and then there was
some appearances all the way up to twenty fifteen, and
I thought it was great. But the Burger King chief
marketing officer says that the mascot drove families away, particularly
towards McDonald's, which I mean again I was. I was

(11:18):
totally in the minority, I suppose because I thought the
King was funny, Like they would have real commercials that
you have watched before and redo them with the King
making an appearance, right, like it's hilarious. There was an
NFL one where you're watching an old play from like
the nineties and it's like a big pick six that
changed the game, and you're watching it you have no

(11:39):
clue that it's that it's a Burger King ad, and
all of a sudden, as this pick six being returned,
the King comes in and lays out the guy that
was taken to the house for a touchdown saves the
game and like that kind of stuff was funny to me.
And again him being in the background with Bob Baffort,
that's brilliant marketing.

Speaker 4 (11:54):
It was awesome.

Speaker 3 (11:55):
Because everybody stopped for him and they went, wait, is
that the Burger King?

Speaker 2 (11:59):
And the King and he like he danced and stuff like.
To me, he reminds me a little bit of Blue,
the mascot of the Colts. And I'm biased, but Blue
is the best mascot in sports right because it's just like,
you know, he's clearly a mascot, but like he's he's
an everyday character.

Speaker 1 (12:13):
He's everywhere.

Speaker 4 (12:14):
It was just a simple way to advertise.

Speaker 2 (12:17):
Yeah, BK is now rebranding with a stronger focus on
family friendly meals. And I tell you what, you didn't
lose me as a customer. I'm sure I'll be there
again at some point. But man, I like the King.
You know what, The King would be a great Halloween
costume for an adult, would it not.

Speaker 4 (12:31):
Oh man, how many more Kings do you think you're
gonna start showing up?

Speaker 1 (12:33):
A games I have to look at that. Let's bring
him back.

Speaker 5 (12:35):
That's right.

Speaker 2 (12:36):
We've got an update of trafficking weather coming your way.
Also another update on sports, and again roriy o'neils set
to join us here at eight thirty five. It's Coffee
and Company PHILBYU Thornton's here on news Radio eight forty
