Speaker 1 (00:00):
So if you have YouTube TV, which a lot of
people do, you're probably gonna be In fact, I bet
you already got your email that your YouTube TV is
attached to, because they're letting you know that if a
resolution I guess the negotiation isn't completed between Fox and
YouTube TV, then you will lose access to all Fox channels.
(00:21):
And this is not uncommon for there to be a
dispute between a provider and a network really not just
one channel. And that's one of the things that when
I think of the this is going to sound really,
really silly, but the first time I can remember being
impacted by there being a dispute and me losing access
(00:41):
to a channel you ready for this scout, This was
when I had Direct TV, probably in two thousand. This
is God's just probably like two ten, twenty eleven. But
Jersey Shore, So wow, I mean that. And by the way,
that show had.
Speaker 2 (00:59):
A blasphem the past.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
That was right before the Internet sort of completely changed
how we consume all content, because I'm not sure there's
been a show on MTV that that that just captivated
people quite like that, And it wasn't like everybody loved
it and loved the people. It's just it was I mean,
can I say it was trash TV you couldn't turn off.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
It was maybe the Real World I think started all that.
Speaker 1 (01:24):
Yeah, but the Real World was was general. I mean
that they had decades of that show, but Jersey Shore
was more reality like Jersey Shore was more reality like again,
like trash TV. I guess you could say the same
thing about the Real World, but they tried, you know
what was what was the tagline for the Real World?
Speaker 2 (01:41):
Keeping it? And they kept it. All I remember was
Puck Rainy was the guy that encompassed everybody.
Speaker 1 (01:45):
And that was early that was early reality documentary TV
at all, when the Real World became a thing. But
the Jersey Shore, I mean it was it. It was
insanely huge as far as just the following and people
that you would never think would be in that would
end up watching it and you kind of couldn't turn
it off. I look back now and wonder how it
became as popular as it was. But I'm also somebody
(02:06):
who found myself who found myself watching it every week
with my wife. But Viacom they own I'm not even
sure if I mean, I'm sure there's still a thing
but Viacom owned, or maybe they still own a lot
of different channels within their network. We're talking Comedy Central,
VH one and MTV b et And because of the
Viacom Direct TV dispute, we didn't have MTV for a
(02:28):
while and we lost all those other channels too, And
I remember thinking, Okay, well this stinks. I don't have
access to watch Jersey Shore. And also I was a
big toss point. Oh, guy Daniel Tosh on Comedy Central,
we can watch that guy, love me too? Yeah, big
big fan of his, especially when that show was in
its prime. So anyways, these disputes have happened, and I'm
sure you regardless of what provider you have, if it's
(02:49):
a streaming provider or if it's your traditional spectrum or
maybe Dish Network DirecTV, they've they this is not uncommon.
But what really makes it, I guess nervous for a
lot of people is the fact that it could potentially
keep you from watching big time college football game that
happens this weekend. But also NFL. I mean NFL of
(03:10):
course has a game on Fox every single Sunday. Right,
So here's what we know. YouTube TV has warned their
customers that if no deal is reached by tomorrow at
five pm, August twenty seventh, that they're going to lose
access to not just Fox meaning your Fox affiliate, but
Fox Broadcast, f S one, f S two, Big ten Network,
and Fox News. So there's nine point four million subscribers
(03:31):
that have YouTube TV. And here's my guess. I still believe,
and again I'm just guessing here that it'll be worked
out by noon on Saturday, because Texas and Ohio State
is a huge, huge game, and Fox again maybe I
mean clearly they're the ones that don't want. Both sides
here would would suffer if in fact there's not access
(03:52):
for like, if Fox is not reaching those that have
YouTube TV, and YouTube TV cannot get customers what they
pay for, which again is Fox and this big game.
I mean, that's just the nightmare scenario for both sides.
So I assume somebody will cave at some point. But
maybe I'm wrong, but there's no scenario that the NFL
is not available on Fox you two TV subscribers by
not this upcoming Sunday, but next Sunday, because that would
(04:14):
really let you know that they are far apart in negotiations.
So I'm not worried just yet, but if I get
to Saturday and I can't watch it, I'll find a
way to watch Texas and Ohio State. However, and I
guess it's wishful thinking on my end. I just think
they'll eventually get it worked out, but.
Speaker 2 (04:31):
You have to think they will. And I can't remember
Sunday Ticket gives the first week free, like kind of
tild They used to do that for long time, so I.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
Could be wrong. I think they stopped promoting that it
was free to try, like as a sample, but the
last two years I think it is. I don't know
why they would get away from promoting it. Maybe they
just I don't know. You would think you'd want everybody
to know, hey, give this a shot. It's free now,
and you're going to realize how much you needed and
you want it. And maybe they were promoting and I
just missed it. But I remember the last two year
(05:00):
being surprised that. I think the first two weeks I
was able to get it, and I'm like, I guess,
I guess I got it, and then you know they
now they asked me to they asked me to pay
for it.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
Oh man, So it's so expensive too.
Speaker 1 (05:10):
Oh yeah, and look, I just I now know that
if I had Sunday ticket, I would take advantage of it.
But I also can enjoy the NFL and not be
going game to game like throughout. But anyways, I mentioned
this earlier and I went and looked it up, so
I knew there was some let There was some dispute
previously where WOKY our partners, they were not on in
(05:30):
the market here or really anywhere with Dish Network because
of their their issues. So yeah, it was twenty seventeen.
Dish Network and Hurst they had a negotiation that they
couldn't get figured out, and that led to a I
think it was a substantial amount of time where you
couldn't watch CBS WKY if you had Dish Network, and
I think it took place. Yeah, it took place during
(05:52):
March Madness, which again that's jeezuz. That really lets you
know how far apart they were in negotiations, because I
mean WKY losing out on WKU by not being able
to be seen by those in this area during March
Madness CBS, that's a nightmare scenario. So anyways, we'll keep
you updated as best we can. I'm going to know
pretty quickly, because again I've got you to TV myself,
(06:12):
so we'll keep you updated. All right, let's get to
a quick update of trafficking weather right here on news
Radio eight forty Whas if you told Cracker Barrel owners
whoever owns Cracker Barrel, I'm sure they've got a bunch
of majority owners and some minority owners and whatnot, But
if you told them that there'd be a week in
the summer of twenty twenty five where they were probably
(06:33):
talked about more nationally than they've ever been talked about,
they probably ask, Okay, is it for something really awesome
or something really bad?
Speaker 2 (06:41):
And it's the latter.
Speaker 1 (06:42):
I don't know if it's as bad as maybe some
people have made it out to be. But Cracker Barrel
deciding to unveil a new logo and really emphasize things
that I guess don't align with the values, beliefs, and
I guess lifestyle of those that still love and have
continue to give Crackerberrell business. They're upset about it. So
(07:03):
if you really look at what they are doing, I
don't think it's probably mean. Clearly they're they're going to
be supportive to LGBTQ initiatives, But I think some people
think they're going to turn it into where they're catering
every restaurant to that specific crowd, people from that community,
and I've not really seen anything that that actually indicates
they're going to do that. But I guess we can't
(07:24):
say we're surprised that the truth gets stretched and people
just run with it and everybody believes it. But the
logo change is one that I just don't know how
many people really care about what the logo looks like
for a restaurant that you have already been giving business
to when it comes to food, I mean, it wouldn't
my favorite restaurant if they got rid of their logo
(07:45):
and didn't have one, it wouldn't keep me from wanting
to go eat there. However, my thing with Cracker Barel
is who, like who needed this? Like what what made
you feel like you needed to go in this in
this direction? And they'll tell you that it's because they
wanted to reach a younger crowd, but I'm not really sure.
Two things. One, you can't get rid of things that
the older crowd that still gives you business very frequently.
(08:07):
You can't run them out and I don't know if
they're doing that, but if they are, that would be
I think a big mistake. And if you are catering
to the younger crowd, I don't think a logo is
gonna simply, you know, make people be more interested in
coming to to you know, to give you business. But
they they understand that they in fact, I'll let you
(08:28):
know directly here here's here's what they're sticking with the
new logo. But they did acknowledge that they I guess
they could have done it a little bit better. Says here.
If the last few days have shown us anything it's
how deeply people care about Cracker Barrel. We truly, we
are truly grateful for your heartfelt voices. This was the
company in a statement that was put out Monday on
(08:48):
their website. Quote, you've also shown us that we could
have done a better job sharing who we are and
who will always be. So they're keeping the logo, but
maybe there'll be more of an emphasis now to to
who I guess sticking with their roots. But it says
here that the logo they've gotten rid of the picture
of that older man that was in overalls leaning against
(09:08):
a barrel of course, the iconic logo that they've had
forever and the words old Country Store were removed. So
they removed the guy and they removed the old Country
Store text from it, and other than that, it looks
kind of the same and people are really really bothered
by it. And I don't think this is strategic by
any means, but they certainly have had a lot of
people talking about them, and their shares fell less than
(09:29):
one percent to close at fifty four dollars and twenty
six cents per share. That was on Monday. So they're
not changing anything. They're just saying maybe they could have
done a better job. And again, I can't fake it
and act like I'm bothered that Cracker Barrel is going
to change their logo. I couldn't convince you that I
care because I just don't. And I think most people
(09:50):
who are yelling about it don't really care. But I
guess it's just a it's another hey, you go, whoa
look what happens to you. And again, if you really
look at this CCIVIIX of what they announced that they're doing.
As far as any changes, I don't really see anything
that's like super woke. I think the CEO is. I
guess maybe she would identify in the woke world. I
(10:11):
don't know, but the change is really not that substantial,
but the handling of it is what really I think
put them in the spot to where they're just getting
crushed and I don't know, maybe they'll lose a ton
of business. We shall see. But what I want to
look at a little bit later on before we get
out of here other high profile backfires, because there have
been many of them over the years, and many of
them have recovered. And I would hoped that Cracker Barrel
(10:33):
can because I like cracker Barrel. But if the atmosphere
is different substantially, it would change my interest in maybe
going there, because I know what I know. It's been
the same since I've been a kid, and if it's
no longer that at all, then that, of course, would
you know, not make me as interested in going there.
All right, let's get an update of traving new weather
coming up right here right now, and who's ready to wait?
