Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's not a knock on either Taylor Swift or Travis Kelce.
I'm just genuinely not interested in their personal lives. And again,
they if I met them, I may think they're great people.
I don't know them, but like, I just have never
been someone that is really into what celebrities do. And
it's not that I just think that, you know, they're overrated,
and I'm not impressed with how famous they are because

(00:21):
of how successful they are. It's just it doesn't interest
me to that extent. But maybe that's a talkback thing today.
Tell me celebrity couples. Rather it be just the fact
that they became an item and they were famous before
they became an item, or they got engaged and it
was such big news because I can't think of anything
close to what these two have done in the last
I guess what year and a half on and how

(00:42):
long they've been together. Maybe it's a couple of years.
I really I have no clue. It seems like it's
been longer than a couple of years. But either way,
they're engaged and that's only going to from now until
the wedding and probably until the end of time. Whatever
they do in any way is going to just get
attention like nothing else.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
Oh wait till the wedding.

Speaker 3 (00:59):
Man, I was lead up to it, Man, I was
thinking when you were talking about it and some of
the historic, historically well mentioned couples, if you will. The
first one that came to mind for me was Marilyn
Monroe and Joe DiMaggio.

Speaker 1 (01:13):
That they were obviously, and that's a good one that
I would have never thought of because obviously did experience it.
Obviously you were probably very very young too.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
Oh I wasn't even born. Yeah, I was gonna say, yeah,
you're you're not a dinosaur.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
No, but yes, that's one that that clearly, even even
though we neither of us were around, we knew that.
Just oh wow, these two celebrities that are so big
in their realm, they're you know, they're an item.

Speaker 3 (01:33):
And then and then of course you had Brad pitt
in not only Jennifer Aniston and Angelina and Joe Lee. Yeah,
you had those two more current David and Victoria Beckham.
You know, one that I guess comes to mind recently
if you want to go that route, Kanye West and
Kim Kardashian.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
You know, not a power power couple Prince Harry.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
And two celebrities that clearly are super famous in their
own way, and then of course they unite and bring
the fu. The collective following that just you know, makes
him a power couple that not many can rival. Brad
Pitt and Jennifer Anderson is one that comes to mind
for me big that that was just you know, in
a today and then this was a little bit before

(02:14):
my time. But Kurt Cobaine, Courtney Love, did you mention
Tom Cruise Nicole Kidney? Is that a good one?

Speaker 4 (02:21):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (02:22):
Because yeah, because that was big after Days of Thunder
and they became an item then, and that kind of
put her on the map as well. And I was
trying to I'm glad you mentioned that because I was
trying to figure out who is the bigger power couple
Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes or Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman.

Speaker 2 (02:38):
When it came to mister Cruse, that was a hard choice.
I think it's not even up for debate.

Speaker 1 (02:44):
Taylor Swift clearly has more worldwide fame and put Travis
Kelce in a I mean, look, he was already arguably
the best or one of the best tight ends that's
ever played the game, and he plays in a sport
where obviously in America, there's no real competition as far
as interest level and coverage when it comes to the NFL,

(03:06):
and he's a very visible player. He's won Super Bowls.
He's a good looking dude who already was just a
celebrity within the NFL differently because of his kind of
his brand. But man, talk about a glow up when
it comes to the brand he. I mean, he's just
kind of I mean, for lack of an offensive way
to say it, he's he's kind of just a knucklehead.

(03:27):
He's kind of a job and there's nothing wrong with that.
But you know, Taylor Swift being interested in him compared
to her previous romances was not something a lot of
people expected. And again they you put these two followings.
But again I'm not trying to gas up Travis Kelcey

(03:48):
as if, like you know, people don't realize who he
is as an athlete and as a celebrity. But Taylor Swift,
I mean, at the time these two became linked together,
she I believe was in the conversation from me, maybe
the most famous human being on the planet, and I
don't say that. I mean, I don't say that exaggerating.
I mean, she's she's got that kind of juice.

Speaker 3 (04:07):
Yeah, I mean, and you look at what she did
on her tour and paying the bonuses out to her
crew members and whatnot. They're clearly are on top of
the world. And I'm right there with you, bro. I'm
not a big Travis fan. I never liked him on
the NFL shows. He just screamed a lot.

Speaker 1 (04:19):
But she's made him more polished, and she's made him
more I guess, just you know, likable, and I mean,
if you remember, it seemed and I could be wrong here, man,
I'm not.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
I don't identify as a swiftye. I'm not in the cult.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
However, they were just turned off by a lot of
his just brand whenever they became a couple. And now
they you know, now he's Prince Charming.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
It's just right.

Speaker 1 (04:40):
So again, if you've got celebrity couples that you feel like,
rather it be just them being together or them getting engaged,
that it just felt like they were. And I hate
even saying it because I don't. I don't consider them
America's couple. Travis Kelsey and Taylor swift, but maybe some
people do. I don't know, But yeah, I use the
talkback for that today because I kind of feel like
it's gonna be tough in my life time for a
couple to ever unite and and and really just take

(05:04):
over like this when it comes to just overall recognition
and fame.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
So yeah, well.

Speaker 1 (05:10):
We're not going to just in fact you want to
do let's talk about that for four hours today, No, kid,
that would be That wouldn't be fun.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
For anybody, right, somebody else will trust? Oh? Absolutely? Absolutely?

Speaker 1 (05:18):
All right, we've got trafficking weather on the way right
here in news Radio eight forty whas well. There was
a nip in the air this morning when I opened
the garage and headed out, and I like it now,
I will say, be mindful. I don't know how far
they were going down sixty five North, but when I
was getting onto sixty five North from the Snyder, I

(05:40):
don't know if I'd ever encountered this before on the roadways.
I mean, I knew it was a thing, I had
just never seen it before. They were striping. They were
restriping the interstate, so there it wasn't it wasn't causing
any type of delay at that point. However, they did
have vehicles out in front as they were doing it.
I mean, I think just having the the I think
it was the state Police vehicle that was out in front.

(06:01):
I guess just with the lights on letting people know, hey,
this is going on, so it would be hard to
ignore it, but obviously be careful. I did have to
merge over, and it did say wet paint, and there
was no way that I was going to be able
to merge over without I guess, going through an area
they had just striped. So I haven't checked to see
if my wheels have any white paint on them or not,
but hopefully I was able to avoid that.

Speaker 3 (06:22):
Yeah, you're that person that walks through the paint when
they're paint and then you leave your shoe print.

Speaker 2 (06:26):
Oh yeah, you'll see a lot of that striping.

Speaker 3 (06:29):
I've noticed that over the years coming down here, that
you see a lot of that going on, especially the
time that we come in and there's.

Speaker 2 (06:34):
Some yeah that makes sense to do it at that time.

Speaker 4 (06:36):
Sure.

Speaker 3 (06:37):
Yeah, And there's some heavy construction going on sixty four
right after the water send there they've been working on
it looks like they're going to widen that a little bit.
And that's been ongoing for quite a bit now, so
you have to be cognizant of that. And it's a
little bit harder Nick to your point when you're coming
in this early in the morning, because it want it
catches you off garden too. I mean, they do keep
it as well lit as possible, but sometimes.

Speaker 1 (06:57):
Man, so yeah, I saw no delay, I know, I mean,
but because of just how visible they were and what
they were doing, which again that's what you want to
do to keep people safe. It clearly stood out. But
we do have an accident. I to sixty four west
at mile marker eleven that is on Criten and Drive.
There is a it looks like maybe I can't tell

(07:18):
if it's an accident. I'm looking here at the trimac,
but the right lane and right shoulder is blocked.

Speaker 2 (07:23):
Again.

Speaker 1 (07:23):
That's I to sixty four West and from the image
I'm looking at here, well doesn't show me.

Speaker 2 (07:28):
A whole lot.

Speaker 1 (07:28):
But yeah, so far we've got already at least one
issue that is delaying some things. But we'll keep you
updated throughout the morning. Bobby Ellis has uscovered also, we'll
continue to just listen and be thankful right for this
weather that we're getting. It's late summer and the humidity
has been brutal this summer, but man, this weather this
week has just been amazing. Football practice last night from
a son couldn't have been a better evening for it,

(07:50):
So I know I'm enjoying it.

Speaker 2 (07:51):
I hope you guys are as well.

Speaker 1 (07:53):
Something I want to get to coming up a little
bit later on is something that President Trump said earlier
this week that clearly there's a lot of reaction to
anything he says, but what he wants to do for
those are who are burning the American flag. I think
I have not even really a strong opinion, just an
observation some comments on it that I think is different

(08:14):
than maybe what I'm here and elsewhere. So I'll share
that with you, and I'm sure some of you will
hear me out. Some of youple just yell at me,
and that's just how it works when it comes to
talking about the president. But anyways, we've got trapping weather
updates on the way, and of course nothing but NonStop
Travis Kelsey Taylor Swift talk today. I kid, I'm joking
that wouldn't be good radio, but we've got sports from
Scott Fitzgerald. That's good radio. That's next right here on

(08:34):
News Radio eight forty whas. Thank you very much, John Shannon,
it is Kentucky INA's morning news. Coffee and company with
you on News Radio eight forty whas.

Speaker 2 (08:44):
Happy hump day.

Speaker 1 (08:45):
Rory O'Neil said, to join us coming up in about
ten minutes. Looking forward to our daily chat with mister O'Neil. Also,
we'll keep you updated as best we can. On the
roadways this morning, I know so far looks like there
is one situation that's ca and some issues, and that
is critin and drive by two sixty four west. So
right lane, right shoulder is blocked and they're working unclearing

(09:07):
that up. Doesn't look like it's caused any substantial issues
just yet. But again, we'll keep you updated as best
we can.

Speaker 2 (09:13):
Right.

Speaker 1 (09:13):
So, this was a probably a better talking point yesterday
given the time of it. But President Trump has signed
a new executive order directing the Justice Department to prioritize
prosecutions of people who burn the American flag. And of
course he argues that flag burning insights unrest at levels
we've never seen before. That's his exact quote and I

(09:33):
I don't really know who put it this way. Let
me try to let me try to lay this out
there really without any politics involved. Who would be pro
burning the American flag? Like, who would who would be advocating, Yeah,
we should be able to do that. Let's let's let's
embrace that. Let's let people do that. I mean, who

(09:54):
what right? I mean, I'm sure, I mean, clearly there
are people that do it. I don't know if it's
at the level that that that that he believes as
far as how often that it's happening, but it happening
like once is something that's going to make I would
say most of society just feel uneasy or make them angry.
I just and again, I know there are people who
are seemingly un American and anti America because Trump's our president.

(10:18):
And I mean, I could be wrong, And maybe this
is when I was just completely in my own bubble
and believing what I wanted to believe. But even in
previous I guess moments of my life when I was younger,
if your if your party didn't win, if if you
weren't a huge fan of the winner, and he was
on the other side of the isle, you'd still support

(10:42):
and be pro America because I mean, I mean, no
reason needs to be said. We're here in America, the
greatest country on earth, regardless of who the president is.

Speaker 2 (10:52):
You know, I don't know.

Speaker 1 (10:53):
I just that's something that's clearly different now than it
used to be. So the only put back to this
I think would be, well, freedom of speech. There are
people who fought for this country that give me the
right to do that, and I think you see a
mixed bag as far as and again I shouldn't say

(11:14):
that because I don't know, but at least there are
some that did in fact fight for the freedoms of
this country that when this convert, when this kind of
thing comes up, they disagree with Trump. They may be
the biggest Trump fans in the world, but they like
to be able to say that this person has the
right to do that because of the freedoms that we
fought for.

Speaker 2 (11:35):
But outside of that, who I mean, I just can't imagine.

Speaker 1 (11:39):
Anybody being like, wait a second, we should I want
to make sure it's not going to be an issue
if we're out here burning the American flag. Now again,
there's also the other element to it that I probably
shouldn't go there. But this is just how I'm wired.
Maybe it's a flaw of mine. Maybe this will make
you all respect me less. I don't know, but I

(12:00):
genuinely don't really care what a lot of other people do.
I can't fake that I'm bothered, or that it impacts me,
or that I even think about certain things that people do. Now,
would I do it?

Speaker 2 (12:11):
No? Do I agree with it? Of course not.

Speaker 1 (12:14):
But I can't fake that I'm When Colin Kaepernick kneeled
for the anthem, that was really the first moment for
me where yeah, I don't think that was a good look.
I wouldn't have done it. I don't necessarily. I mean,
I don't support those that do it as if, Yeah,
we need more of those people out there kneeling for
the anthem. However, I couldn't. I couldn't believe how many
people fake cared. Like again, it's not that you think, well,

(12:37):
wait a second, now, I like that was everybody upset,
But how does it impact you in your day to
day life?

Speaker 2 (12:42):
Right now?

Speaker 1 (12:43):
I know some are saying, well, it's because you clearly
don't you clearly don't respect you know, the troops or whatever,
And yeah, I could see again, if you're somebody that's
doing it, then yeah, But just the outrage, the level
that it hit was something that really stood out to me.
Is the first time that I can remember thinking, Okay,
I get that it's a bad look. I get that

(13:04):
it is controversial to say the least, But the amount
of people who acted as if they were losing sleep
at night, I mean I didn't believe most of them.
And the flag burning is is I think different than
than kneeling for the anthem. I think it's it's a
it's a worse look. But again two side, both things
can be true. Like I guess technically when it comes

(13:26):
to freedom of speech and the freedoms that people thought for,
you have the right to do that, yeah, I think,
But also who like, who would want?

Speaker 2 (13:33):
Who would who would like? Who would want?

Speaker 4 (13:34):
Like?

Speaker 2 (13:35):
If you're pro doing that, I think you're my And
this is me being judgmental.

Speaker 4 (13:38):
Scott.

Speaker 1 (13:39):
If you're pro burning the American flag at this point,
it's probably just because you were just so bothered and
you hate Donald Trump. Like, I just think that that's
it's probably consumed you to that extent, and that's sad
that you're there. It's sad that you got there. That's
that's my thoughts on it.

Speaker 2 (13:52):
I agree one hundred percent.

Speaker 3 (13:53):
I think that most people listening right now grew up
in a day and age and some I mean, I
can go back to when I was in first grade
and we still said the Pledge of Allegiance before class
every day, and I think that a lot of people
listening right now kind of grew up with that environment,
and it's it's hard to envision someone I've had my
disagreements with the government may being in the military. I've

(14:14):
been through Republican and Democratic presidents that I agree with
some and disagree with others, but I always respected the president,
as Mike and John Shannel echo this my commander in chief.
So basically, what I'm trying to say is the military
taught me I can disagree with leadership, but at the
same time still respect them at the same And to
what you're saying, I think a lot of us still
have a problem with burning in the flat.

Speaker 2 (14:34):
Yeah, and it makes me uncomfortable just thinking about it. Yeah,
but I think you did that well.

Speaker 1 (14:38):
And I think when it comes to just I always
taught things back to sports because I spent so much
time in sports broadcasting. But you know, when people get
criticized for being open to even going to the White
House to see Trump after winning the Super Bowl or
a national championship, there's a part of me that thinks,
what the hell is wrong with everybody?

Speaker 2 (14:56):
Like, how how could how? How are we at a.

Speaker 1 (14:58):
Point where you're you're being canceled by some essentially because
you want to take you want to take in the
experience in the honor of meeting the President of the
United States, regardless of who it is. Right, that's just right, Yeah,
that's just me. But anyways, we're late for a break
traving weather updates on the way. Rory O'Neil joins us
next right here on news radioaight forty whs. Happy hump Day,
Kentucky Ana. Thanks for hanging out with us here on

(15:19):
news radio eight forty whas it is Coffee and Company,
Kentucky inn is Morning News and we are now joined
by Rory O'Neill of NBC News. All right, Rory, it's
it's the power couple that has decided to tie the out,
Taylor Swift Travis Kelsey. I can't think of a celebrity
duo couple in my lifetime that has been able to
generate attention like these two have, and yesterday was just

(15:42):
a reminder of how much attention they can gravitate. You
got any other couples that come close to what they
do as far as just dominating headlines?

Speaker 4 (15:50):
All right, I do have one. Actually, let's hear Michael
Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley.

Speaker 1 (15:57):
Okay, good one. Yeah, I mean clearly no, no explanation
really needed. And obviously Town was a lot different.

Speaker 4 (16:04):
Yeah, but that came. That was sort of a surprise,
shotgunny thing, whereas this was two years in the making
and all of us biting our nails, like, oh gosh,
if this one falls apart, she's going to not only
have an album to write, it'll be a you know,
a three disc set of her breakup song. So yeah, no,
it finally happened and the dad, Travis's dad, says that

(16:27):
the engagement actually happened nearly two weeks ago at Travis's
house in his backyard. According to the dad, who spoke
to a local TV station, they were going to go
out to dinner and Travis said, Hey, want to step
outside and have a glass of wine in the backyard
before we go, and that's where he popped the question.

Speaker 1 (16:43):
Surprising they were able to keep that under wraps the
way that they did, just given just how interested the
world seems to be with these two, We're not that
far removed from some folks, at least assuming this was
a publicity stunt. And I guess maybe there's still a
possibility that it could be, but it certainly doesn't look
like that now.

Speaker 4 (17:00):
Well right, and then but happening just as the NFL
season is about to kick off. I still have my doubts,
but it's I mean, they are really a power couple
of bringing in two very different groups, and it's been
amazing to see the influence that Taylor Swift has had
bringing up more female fans into the NFL, which has
been remarkable. And then you look that you know, Taylor's

(17:22):
last tour was an absolute economic engine, and then the
fact that you teased a new album just over a
week ago has also set the world on fire. So
clearly two of the most influential people out there.

Speaker 1 (17:36):
So you're that, ladies and gentlemen, if you are already
annoyed by how much you hear about these two individuals,
it's not going anywhere she's got an album that she's
teased the lead up to the wedding. The NFL season
is about to start, and even if Travis Kelsey has
a step back as a player, which could happen he's
getting older, it's going to be talked about because that's
just the level of fame he has right now.

Speaker 4 (17:56):
So yeah, it's wait until we get into baby mode.

Speaker 2 (17:59):
Oh yeah, it's not going anywhere. Let's talk AI.

Speaker 1 (18:02):
Artificial intelligence clearly has already taken away some jobs from
entry level workers. What is next as computers move into
the labor market here, I mean AI monitoring it as
far as just what it means for the workforce in
America is certainly something that people need to have some
interest in just because of being aware. But it's seemingly
changing every day.

Speaker 4 (18:23):
Look, we've all been saying AI is going to take
your job, but it's not going to be with the
flip of a light switch, right, It's something that's going
to be gradual. And what some ADP payroll data shows,
according to standard researchers, is that employment specifically for younger
workers those twenty two to twenty five, in things like
software development, customer support. Things that AI can really do that.

(18:46):
Employment is down sixteen percent since twenty twenty two. You know,
that's the foot in.

Speaker 2 (18:52):
The door kind of job. You just got out of college.

Speaker 4 (18:54):
You land your jobs is some software development thing, and
those are the jobs that are going. What we're not
seeing is anyone taking the jobs of experienced people. So
the mid to upper level management people who have a
bit more experience on that job with that company, they
tend to be a bit safer as it is now.

(19:14):
Emphasize that part, but we are starting to measure some
significant declines. Sixteen percent is nothing to sneeze that, especially
in that twenty two to twenty five year old demographic.

Speaker 1 (19:25):
This is something that I'm putting you on the spot
here a little bit. But I feel like the fear
of AI sort of taking away a skill that someone's
been able to make a living off of for a
long time. They have valuable experience in a certain industry.
I just don't know if people are aware that it
may not necessarily be that you're going to lose your job.
You may look for a new opportunity and that employer
may ask you how familiar how familiar are you with

(19:47):
how to utilize artificial intelligence? In what we do, and
I just think that's something not enough people are mindful of.

Speaker 2 (19:52):
You don't need me.

Speaker 1 (19:53):
I mean, clearly, you should be fearful of and knowledgeable
and have knowledge as far as I guess the threat
that it poses, but also having the ability to do
your job better can benefit.

Speaker 4 (20:02):
You, right, and knowing what AI can do to help you.
You know, one of the things I struggle with is
I go to chat, GPT or whatever, I'm ignorant about
this stuff, and I'm like, I don't know what I'm
I don't know what I want you to do. Like
I don't know where to start right enough to say,
make a picture of this, or write me a summary
of that, or compose of this. Like my mind is

(20:23):
so narrow and dumb that I don't know what to
ask it because I don't know what it can do.
So I think that you know, being the person in
the office that knows how to use the AI, how
to maximize the productivity of the AI, being that person
on the job, that would be a very valuable person
in the office, no.

Speaker 2 (20:40):
Doubt about it.

Speaker 1 (20:41):
Rory, Thanks as always for your time, Enjoy the rest
of your day. We'll talk tomorrow, my friend, back nick
