Speaker 1 (00:00):
I just cannot think of a celebrity couple that has
ever gotten this much attention. And I don't even know
if there's a close second. We had Roy O'Neil on
with us about twenty minutes ago, and he mentioned one that,
you know, time was different, so it's really tough to
know how you would truly compare. But yes, Michael Jackson
and Lisa Marie Presley, the power that those two had

(00:23):
by themselves is just different. Michael Jackson, of course, I
think a bigger name. She of course, I mean, she's
Elvis's daughter, so therefore that alone is going to make
her super famous. And just the story of what that
is to you know, a musical icon in Michael Jackson,
and of course the daughter of one. And then also
you've just got you know, Michael Jackson clearly was bringing
a level of fame that you didn't have from from

(00:46):
her individually at that time, I would guess, And again
that was a long time ago, but that's the same
thing here with Taylor Swift. The worldwide fame that she
has had for some years now is just again I
don't mean she is when I say that she might
be the most famous woman on the planet. That sounds
like an exaggeration, even in my own admission, but I
don't know, maybe it's not, because again, she's just she's different,

(01:10):
and I mean that in a complimentary way as far
as just the amount of people who love her, adore
her and just think that, you know, she's the best
thing going. And Travis Kelcey again one of the more
known players in the NFL before he became an item
with her. But maybe or maybe I'm wrong there and
I'm just now thinking that because of what she has
brought him as far as notoriety outside of sports. But

(01:32):
I ask folks on the talkback to tell me any
any power couple, celebrity couple that they can think of
that that has gotten anything close to this, and we
haven't had one other than Rory O'Neil and Roy O'Neil
mentioning the Lisa, Marie Presley, Michael Jackson. But on the talkback,
this is this is this is an example of a
power couple, and Scott mentioned these two Kanye and Kim Kardashian.

(01:53):
But on the talkback, this person makes a good observation
as far as just you know, fame when it comes
to to Kim Kardashian.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
The crazy about all the relationships you named, it's both
people in the relationship are famous for something. Except for
Kim Kardashian. She's not an actress, she's not a singer.
She's just famous because something her dad did in the nineties.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
So I'm with you as far as like, what is
she famous for? I guess you could throw out a
couple of things that make her famous. But also, regardless
of why she's famous, she's super famous. Even if you
don't get it, you don't like it, people know who
she is. Therefore, you know, it's kind of hard to
dispute that. But again, when it comes to celebrity power couples,

(02:37):
I mean, I don't think these two have any competition,
No that I that I can think of, that's for sure.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
No.

Speaker 3 (02:43):
And generationally, I mean, you know, we were talking earlier
about you know, Joe Divagio and Marilyn Monroe, and I
think Nick, that was way before our time and way
before probably most people that are listening right now was
before their time. But I think if you went back
kind of same church, different pew kind of thing, I'll
bet you those two got what would be the equivalent
of the attention Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey, get now.

Speaker 1 (03:05):
I mean with no Internet, no coverage like I mean,
maybe there wasn't. I just didn't know a bit. Now
we have it's an industry to cover celebrities. I don't
think that was the case back in those times, because
again life was just a lot, right.

Speaker 4 (03:17):
No paparazzi chased after him. They just and made up
stuff about them back then. But to just have the
Internet to make it go viral.

Speaker 1 (03:23):
We have access to to I mean, we have access
to people now, and that look, I think in a way,
you could have a in aura about you as a
celebrity back then because there was no access to you
unless somebody saw you and snapped a picture. Now you
can go to Taylor Swift's Instagram and see what she
had for breakfast.

Speaker 4 (03:41):
Maybe historically power couples, I mean, if you want to
go more recent, you could probably say Brad Pitt, Angelina
and Joe Lee when they were together from Hollywood. You
could also go and showing my age here, and they
were more of a power couple even before I was born.
But Liz Taylor and Richard Burton, they were away before
my time, but they were a Hollywood power couple that

(04:02):
you know, just revolved around their love story and the
movies they did. They did tremendous movies together in Hollywood
as well.

Speaker 1 (04:11):
LMPD is still searching for the suspect and a deadly
school bus stop shooting that left a twenty three year
old woman dead, and we now have the nine to
one one calls that can shed some light on a
separate shooting at that at that same bus stop, just
five days earlier, where of course two fifteen year olds
have since been arrested. And this is from our partners

(04:34):
over at Woky And this is I mean, it wasn't
as if I was expecting any kind of reaction from
myself as far as like what this would do to me.
But just when you consider the fear that you, you know,
you can put it this way. You can tell that
there's understandably legitimate fear, not only because of a shooting
and you're having to call nine to one, but it's
had a school bus stop, of all places for something

(04:56):
like that to occur. And here is here's what it
sounded like from those who did make that who made
nine to one one calls.

Speaker 4 (05:03):
That morning, They just down shot at the bus stop.

Speaker 2 (05:07):
They just downd shot up the bus stop.

Speaker 5 (05:09):
These are nine to one one calls made just moments
after police say two fifteen year olds, we're shooting at
each other near tenth and Chestnut as kids walked to
the bus stop on the first day of school.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
You have all these kids out, did you just hear
shot fired?

Speaker 2 (05:23):
Everybody shot?

Speaker 5 (05:24):
You can hear the panic parents and kids witnessing the gunfire,
scrambling for safety.

Speaker 4 (05:29):
Is anybody shot?

Speaker 2 (05:31):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (05:32):
I'm like down the street, but it just was like
ten freaking shots at the bus stop.

Speaker 2 (05:35):
It's a lot of people down there and they are running.

Speaker 5 (05:36):
What was supposed to be a day of back to
school celebrations turned to panic parents calling in because the
shootings were close to two JCPS schools, a YMCA, and
a library.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
I'm dropping off the kids and I just heard like
fifteen guys right in front of me, and I've seen
kids running.

Speaker 5 (05:54):
And then the descriptions of the shooters begin.

Speaker 1 (05:57):
Hey, we have a shooting near one one one five
West Chestnuts Clever Taylor.

Speaker 4 (06:04):
Elementary, West Chestnut Street.

Speaker 1 (06:08):
Yes, Clever Taylor Elementary. There was a black man with
a black hoodie. Uh, possibly drids and he ran over
into where was it west? He went west?

Speaker 5 (06:21):
In the set of views, two fifteen year old boys
were arrested in the shooting, the second arrest happening on
the same day that a second and this time daily
shooting near the same bus stop.

Speaker 1 (06:31):
So again, one of those individuals that was arrested, it
was their father that turned them in, which I'm sure
was a difficult thing to do. Maybe it wasn't, given
that it's the right thing to do, But we've yet
to have anybody provide information that has led to an
arrest at this point. I'm sure information has been shared
as far as what took place the next week, but
the first day of school in JCPS, I mean, it's
just again I'm not sharing information you didn't already know.

(06:53):
We know that that was a big story, and of
course it was a big week in Louisville where just
it seemed as if the awareness of just how violent
things at that time, it just seemed there was more.
It seemed to be there was more awareness than there's
ever been. But hopefully they can eventually figure out who
it is, make an arrest and get one more violent
criminal off the streets here in Louisville. But just the

(07:14):
thoughts of ever having to call none on one because
you're witnessing a shooting is something that hopefully most people
never experience. But at a school bus stop, it just
almost doesn't seem real. And again we're now what two
weeks removed from two ish weeks from from the last
shooting that took place that of course, it did take
somebody's life, so not to say that they won't mean
who knows, maybe maybe today we get information. I have

(07:35):
no clue, but you know, the longer that you don't
have any updates, the more you worry about is this
person going to be going to be apprehended? All right,
we've got traving weather updates on the way, and just
be advised, we do have a situation right now that
you need to be aware of. Popular Level road at
Business Park Drive is closed to produce road and it's
going to be shut down in both directions due to
power lines in the roadway. So that doesn't sound good.

(07:57):
But again, Bobby Ellis will have the latest when it
comes to how the roadways are looking. We'll get an
update on the forecast and another sports update coming up
right here on News Radio by forty whas again at
Popular Level Road at Business Park Drive, it is closed
to produce road. So it's going to be shut down
in both directions because there's some down power lines in
the roadway. Our partner's over at WLKY they're covering that

(08:18):
as we speak, so just be advised if you're in
that area or you go through that area in the morning,
you may want to find an alternate route because down
power lines. Not only is that going to create a closure,
it really as far as the timing of that getting resolved,
I have no clue, and that's what I'm looking at
Here at Louwell Metro Emergency Services social media page, it
says that it's an unknown duration as far as how

(08:41):
long it's going to be closed, So just be advised
of that.

Speaker 4 (08:43):
All right.

Speaker 1 (08:44):
It looks like we've got some potential rain chances this weekend,
which isn't isn't good. However, I will say I'm not
going to be complaining about the weather we've had as
of late, and it couldn't be better with football season
here and now. Again, if it rains this weekend, that's
not good, especially if you're looking to get out to
l and n Cardinal Stadium or Kroger Field? Is it
Kroger Field at Commonwealth Stadium. I think that's how they

(09:06):
how they package it together. But yeah, getting it started
in the Bluegrass this weekend. And I know fans, regardless
of what they think about their team, obviously Louisville fans
probably feel a little more optimistic about their season than
Kentucky fans, but just getting it started, there is a
lot of excitement there. And when you look at Week one,
obviously Texas and Ohio state number one verse number three
Arch Manning making his debut in Austin, and let's be honest,

(09:29):
Julian's saying the bammer transfer quarterback who moved on after
after Saban's retirement. I mean, he's no slouch either, but
it is wild. This just speaks to the level of
hype that there is around Arch Manning for obvious reason
that the other quarterback on the other side not nearly
as known. But again again I think it's pretty obvious
as to why he's a Manning, and there's been hype

(09:51):
for years now that he may be better than any
of them, which has tough hype to live up to.
But I will say just in what I have observed
in arch Manning this offseason getting set for his first
season as a starter. He looks polished, meaning he looks
like he is. He looks like he is somebody that
is aware of the hype and the expectations and doesn't

(10:12):
seem to be uncomfortable. Now again, can he deliver? That
remains to be seen. Now, Bill Belichick making his college debut.
It's not against I mean, it's against TCU, which, by
the way, is crazy to think they actually just played
in the National Championship game, not that long ago, at
least in the college football play or did they make
the title game. I think they might have, which is
still crazy to think about. But anyhow, Belichick in college

(10:33):
at seventy three. I still stand by what I said
the day this became official, which if you weren't listening
to me on the sports side, then you would know
this is either going to be relatively to mildly successful
or it's going to be a complete disaster. I don't
see and in between there, and I seem to think
it's going to be the latter, a disaster just because
the guy knows a lot about football. Clearly, he's won

(10:54):
a lot of super Bowls, but everything that is needed
now in the college game as a coach, Relaida Billy,
you can't be a drill sergeant. You've got to be
a player's coach. These guys have power now they didn't
used to. Bill Belichick was the old school guy in
the NFL. Players have power in the NFL, but if
you played for Belichick, you didn't know it because he
wasn't going to let you know it, and he had
more power than you and he if you thought differently,
he tried to get you out of there, just like

(11:15):
he did with you know, Jimmy Garoppolo and the Brady situation.
So I don't have a whole lot of interest in
watching Carolina play TCU as far as the other games
that are out there. But Belichick making his college debut,
regardless of what happens, that's going to be certainly something
people are watching in Week one, and then probably the
biggest nil deal of date in this new world. Bryce

(11:36):
Underwood at Michigan making his debut twelve million dollars is
what christ what the ticket was to get his services
at Michigan. And he's, I mean, a true freshman making
his debut. I don't know much about him other than
just there's a lot of hype there. But Sharon Moore,
I mean, I kind of feel like this is going
to be the year where Michigan fans realized did they

(11:56):
hand it off to a guy that can come close
to doing what Harball was doing on his way out?
Or is this a guy that just you know, they
handed it off and they learned pretty quickly that that
that he's not quite ready for that job. I like
Sewan Moore, he used to be in a staffer for
Charlie Strong. But I will tell you I don't see
this playing out well for him just because of what

(12:17):
Michigan is. You don't get I mean him that being
your first head coaching job. To me, that just doesn't
it doesn't make a lot of sense.

Speaker 3 (12:23):
No, it doesn't. And you know it's funny when you
and they announced the Bryce Underwood think, because my son
is a huge, huge Louisville fan and probably just as
big of a I know you raised him, right, that's right,
just as big of it. And I remember when they
announced Bryce Underwood was coming and what they paid to
get him there. I mean, he was like over the moon.
But even he and I were talking with were in
the naety a couple weeks ago that that he we

(12:45):
both agree Sean Moore is not going to get it
done at Michigan. In fact, if for those that are
Michigan and and Detroit Lion fans, you may be in
for a rude awakening. You know, it was lightning in
a bottle these last couple of years. And I think
that honeymoon is over. Well, I mean, I don't know anything.

Speaker 1 (13:01):
I don't feel I don't feel that way as much
with the Lions, but with Michigan I certainly do because
last year it was just a pass they were given
fresh off national championship, one that they clearly needed, just
as far as their fans being hungry for getting back
to the top, and they certainly did it on Harball's
way out. Now, of course they did some things along
the way to help them get there, But yeah, that
twelve million dollars for a freshman just seems like a

(13:23):
head scratcher. But maybe it'll be a good investment. Another
storyline that I just think is I mean former Georgia
starter Carson Beck, who of course was at Georgia and
he was good there, They were really good. He moved on.
Now he's at Miami and he's replacing cam Ward who
went number one in the draft. So clearly Miami getting
a quarterback like Carson Beck is going to be good
for their program. But you got to wonder did Carson

(13:46):
Beck was he able to shine at Georgia because he
had a Georgia roster right now, Miami's got no They're
no slouch either, But again, Georgia, you could make the
case that they've had more talent top to bottom than
anybody in the sport in recent years. So I'm looking
forward to seeing it. And Beck can carry over his
success at Georgia to Miami because clearly that would help
the ACC.

Speaker 3 (14:04):
I'm gonna say, can Miami challenge Clemson? You think yeah?

Speaker 1 (14:08):
I mean I think yes they can. I just think
with Crystaball, who I think is a good coach, but
he's made me look foolish when I say that, because
at times he's the one who gets in their way,
which again is just typical Miami, regardless if it's Crystaball
or not, because they just Miami has gotten close to
getting back to being consistently relevant and they may be
there now, but nobody's going to be surprised if Miami
steps on their own feet, because they just have done

(14:30):
that many times in recent years. One more thing from
week one that I wanted to mention, This is a
game that you said this a year ago, two years
ago would have had a lot of attention, not as
much now. But Florida State and Alabama playing each other,
and I don't know if Florida. I think Florida State
is in for another nightmare. I really do. And I
can't really explain how they fell off the way that
they did. Mike Norvell, I've always thought was a good coach,

(14:53):
and he clearly struck struck lightning with Jordan Travis there
towards a couple of years ago, and then the injury.
Really it was just a terrible situation for them overall.
And then last year, I don't know if people realized
how bad they were. They didn't just fall off. They
were god awful in a league that was not good
in the ACC from top to bottom. So now they've

(15:13):
got year two at Alabama, which again big shoes to
fill for Kalyn to Bore were taken over for Nick
Saban and last year Alabama was nowhere near the Alabama
they were before, So this could just be a reminder that, man,
how quickly things can change. Right, Florida State fell off
last year. I don't think Alabama's going to take a
huge job. But at Alabama, when you take over for
Nick Saban, let's be honest, you don't just need to
win and be competitive at the top of the ACC.

(15:34):
You need to be in the conversation for a national
championship every year. And that's that's easier said than done, unless,
of course, your name is Nicholas Saban.

Speaker 3 (15:42):
So some may wonder if Mike Normal would have been
better off just staying at Memphis.

Speaker 1 (15:45):
But yeah, I mean, he made a lot of money,
so he'd probably say he'd probably say otherwise, But yeah, I.

Speaker 3 (15:52):
Mean again financial standpoint, it didn't.

Speaker 1 (15:54):
Work out early, then he broke through and got a
big contract, and now I mean if he has another,
I mean, if if there's seven and five, he's fired.
I mean, yeah, Florida State just can't. That wouldn't be sustainable.
I don't think. All right, let's get an update of
traffic in weather as we keep it moving along here
on a Wednesday morning news radio waight forty whas and
it's six fifty here Kentucky had this morning news news
radio Waight forty whas Coffee and Company with you. We've

(16:17):
got another update coming up in just a moment as
far as traffic and weather, and it looks as if
there's one ice we I shouldn stay isolated because I
know it's not the only issue, the only hiccup we've
had so far this morning, but the Popular Level Road
area that's concerning knowing that they've got it shut down
both directions because of power lines in the roadway. So
we'll see if we can get some updates on that

(16:37):
throughout the morning. Again, that's not something you would expect
to be taking care of super quickly. But maybe I'm
wrong there. Maybe I'm not giving those enough credit that
can get that cleaned up and out of the way.
And I didn't mean to put any any panic out
there as far as the weather this weekend, because I
don't think we're looking at some type of awful situation,
but it does look like rain chances are creeping in,

(16:57):
which would you know, wouldn't be good considering it's a
holiday weekend and we've had such great weather. But we'll see.
Maybe maybe we get no rain at all which, if
that's the case, that'll be that'll be great. But man, Saturday,
right now, you're still looking at a very little chance
of rain and Sonny in eighty degrees as the high.
I'm not sure if it could get any better when
it comes to kicking off a college football season here
in Louisville, Lexington, I'm in again, eighty degrees in sunny,

(17:21):
and if there's no clouds and there's no rain at all,
I'd say that's that's almost perfect. But that's just me
all right to get another update of traving weather coming
your way, We've also got another sports update coming your way,
as we got to talk about Tyler Shuck at some point.
I'm not totally totally you know, bummed that he didn't
get the starting gig, but I was really hoping he would.
But again, we'll get to that in a lot more

(17:42):
throughout the morning here on Who's Radio Boy forty whis
