Speaker 1 (00:00):
It has been thus far, got off to a rough
start on I sixty five South where earlier this morning
they had all lanes shut down on Ice sixty five
South that was near Gray Lane. Thankfully they've got that
situation cleared up, but a woman is in the hospital
after she was found shot in her car on the

(00:20):
side of Ice sixty five. It was earlier this morning,
around three forty five, that officers arrived to locate the
vehicle and they found a woman who had been shot.
They initially believed that it was a vehicle collision, but
it was not, so she was conscious taking to ul
hospital where she underwent surgery. She is expected to survive,
and they weren't, of course able to get into the
details of the incident just yet. But again, you never

(00:43):
know how long those lanes could have been closed down
when they're investigating a crime, a shooting that took place.
But thankfully they were able to get it reopened and
that hopefully didn't impact too many people this morning. I
imagine there's many some of you probably listening right now,
that were impacted. Maybe you got maybe it can get
out of the house on time, and that added more
delay and it.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
Became an issue for you.

Speaker 1 (01:04):
But again, I because it was unknown, I was if
it was me, and I'm thinking, all right, well, this
is not ideal. I need to this is that's exactly
within my within my path, and I'll I'll go whichever
way they reroute me. But you really just don't know.
I would have assumed the worst and hoped for the best.
But and if that was the case, I would feel

(01:25):
I would feel good knowing, Hey, wasn't that bad. But again,
we'll get you caught up on the roadways this morning,
because obviously this is good news.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
They were able to to to get.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
That cleared up, but still some other issues with traffic
throughout the morning. And Bobby Ellis does a great job.
I feel Scott, I feel like I feel like a
point guard. I've got a team with me that I
feel good about. We've got our team at WOK. Why
they can get us caught up on the weather and
on mornings like this, We've got Bobby Ellis that that
keeps us in check, lets us know how the.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
Roadways are looking.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
I don't have to do much work when Bobby's out
here letting us know, right, I mean, I just gotta
share information because he's the one that's uh, that's putting
in the.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
Work, Sarah. Let him do the heavy that's right.

Speaker 1 (02:01):
So anyhow, we'll keep you updated, and you got another
update coming your way in about two and a half
minutes time. Obviously a big story yesterday that is not
so shocking, if I'm being honest with you, And again
saying that out loud just makes me feel like a
cold individual. But a school shooting that left two children
dead and many others injured is something that just happens

(02:26):
way more than it ever should, not that it should
ever happen at any point. And I think there's a
level of helplessness that I that I you know, maybe
I'm wrong here, but I feel like there's a level
of helplessness from society when it comes to these things,
and that's just being helpless about anything is not a
good feeling, right. But then there's also, I guess maybe
a freeing feeling of certain things when it comes to helplessness,

(02:46):
because when you can't control it, you really stand to
benefit not at all by letting it consume you in
any way, however, you know, I mean, it's it's a
really awful thing to Feelp's about knowing that you send
your kids to school every day or you just you
live your life, you don't think about what potential threat
is out there as far as someone that maybe is

(03:12):
clearly troubled in a major way, just like what we
saw yesterday with this with his twenty three year old
who decided to do what he did yesterday. So again,
here are just some fast facts about what we know
about about the shooter. It is a twenty three year
old by the name of Robin aka Robert Westman, and

(03:34):
he used a rifle, shotgun and a pistol before taking
his own life near that church. And also there's a
Kentucky connection here as the uncle of this individual's former
Kentucky state lawmaker, Bob Helleringer, and he expressed disbelief. Quote,
it's an unspeakable tragedy. Hell Ringer said he barely knew

(03:55):
the accused shooter, but is praying for his sister and
her family. So again, we'll we'll get you caught up
on the latest.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
Again.

Speaker 1 (04:04):
This will be something that you you likely hear a
whole lot about throughout uh throughout the throughout the day
here on news radio eight forty w h A S.
And again, as far as just some things that I
guess have not been officially confirmed. But then again, I mean,
I guess if you're waiting for official confirmation on certain things,
to me, it seems like you just don't want to
confirm what may I guess make your political affiliation look bad,

(04:27):
because clearly this uh, this this troubled individual. I mean,
the Washington Post has reported that one visible inscription included
quote kill Donald Trump. That was that was something visible
within what what was what was found online? As far
as the digital footprints that was left behind by the
by this by this person. All right, Trafvick, you weather

(04:47):
updates on the way, stick with us right here on
news radio eight forty WHS. So, if you are a
YouTube TV customer and you consume Fox the network, Fox News,
Fox Sports, FS one, the Big ten network, you were
worried earlier this week because you were gonna lose it potentially,
But it looks as if they've got it. They've got

(05:09):
it figured out. So YouTube TV and Fox are at
odds over carriage fees. There was a deadline set yesterday
at five pm, and without a deal.

Speaker 2 (05:17):
YouTube TV's wi YouTube YouTube TV users.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
Would lose access to those networks However, they did in
fact get it figured out to where they are. I mean,
I guess they're at least just kicking it down the
line to not make any changes while they continue to negotiate.
Andre's here's the issue with the YouTube TV and Fox dispute.

(05:39):
We'll all complain, threaten to switch, look at other options,
maybe actually switch, which will then cause Google, who owns
YouTube tv, to cave. They'll pay Fox a higher price,
which they'll then pass along to us. Somebody's gonna win,
but it'll never be the paying customers, because that's just
not how this works. And look, if you want to,

(06:01):
you want to mix it up, you want to change,
just to maybe maybe this gives you an invitation to
look elsewhere and maybe you realize you can pay a
little bit less money and have Hulu Live or whatever
it may be, or whatever the other options are. In fact,
that's what happened with me when it comes to trying
to cut the cord, which it just sounds that sounds

(06:21):
archaic to say that, because I feel like that's not
even a saying anymore because so many people have done it,
and we rely on the internet and connection to do
a lot of things, including how we watch live television now.
But we moved and DirecTV it just becomes so expensive,
and I thought, okay, I'm moving. If anything, I'm just
going to cancel my DirecTV account and that I've had
for years, and then give this YouTube TV streaming thing

(06:43):
a shot, and if it doesn't work out, I'll start
a new account on my new address at direct TV
and maybe get some introductory offers.

Speaker 2 (06:50):
In fact, they encourage me.

Speaker 1 (06:51):
To do that. And then I tried YouTube TV and
I've never looked back. So it's quite true what everybody
said years ago is we're eventually just going to be
We're gonna have k again. It's just gonna be every
there's a bunch of different We're not paying one bill,
We're paying a bunch and I mean, my live television
access comes from my YouTube TV subscription, but of course

(07:12):
I also watch things that aren't YouTube TV, Netflix, Hulu,
HBO Max or Hbo Go, whatever it's called. I mean,
I've got all the streaming services, so I'm paying. You know,
my Direct TV bill was pretty expensive whenever we moved on,
but it wouldn't shock me if I'm paying well above
that now with everything I consume and look, it's my
it's my fault for paying for things that I may

(07:33):
not need. But still it I feel like this has
not actually been a great alternative compared to what we
used to have. But you know, again, they'll they'll charge
more money and uh, because that's just what they do well.

Speaker 3 (07:45):
And you bring up a good point in that is
it's you know, you got to keep track of more
payments to make you know, for folks who are living
close to the edge, sometimes maybe you know they don't
have enough in their accounted hits, they get overcharged. Yeah,
this was supposed to be the end all be all,
and we were gonna be able to get what we
wanted when we wanted. And actually, when it turns out,
it was probably easier when everything was under one umbrella.

Speaker 2 (08:06):
No doubt about it.

Speaker 3 (08:07):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (09:10):
Had a traffic situation earlier Today two and a half hours,
I believe is what Bobby Ella said. I sixty five
South was was closed down, and sounds like it really comes, well,
really really comes. I mean, if you weren't impacted at all,
then you probably aren't going to think about it at
any point. If you hear me say, hey, they got
it cleared up pretty quickly with a shooting and the
investigation and all that. But if you were stuck, if

(09:32):
you were delayed because you had to be rerouted, I'm
sure you're thinking, what are you talking about?

Speaker 2 (09:36):
You clown?

Speaker 1 (09:36):
I was an hour late. So again, each each situation
can be different. Is clown still a thing?

Speaker 2 (09:41):
I felt like this is okay, Yeah, my dad used
to call me that all the time.

Speaker 1 (09:44):
Yeah, But then you saying your dad used to call
you that confirm confirms that I just let out like
like like we went back to like the seventies or
eighties a clown.

Speaker 3 (09:54):
But you're good.

Speaker 2 (09:55):
You're good. There's a lot of stuff that's come back
from them. But no, you're good. I think you're right, though. Nick.

Speaker 3 (09:59):
You guys did a omen's job this morning covering that,
and it just shows you and you mentioned this earlier,
the story about I sixty five closing down as well
with the bridge expansion.

Speaker 2 (10:10):
It shows you what a valuable artery I sixty five is.

Speaker 1 (10:13):
Yep, And I was good. That's what I was getting to.
As far as just when I think of potential future
traffic nightmares, this this comes to mind because when we
found out yesterday that there's going to be stretches of
I sixty five completely shut down next summer, I mean
that is going to impact a lot of people. And
it all comes and this is where I'm connecting the
two things, because again, it's all really about how you're impacted.

(10:36):
If you don't leave your house until seven thirty, then
you would have never known, without going back and listening
or reading about it, that there was a shutdown of
all lanes southbound. But if you're somebody that's on the
road early and it's four o'clock and you didn't expect,
of course all lanes to be shut down, especially that
time of day, it might have made you late, you

(10:57):
might have got written up. I don't know. So it
all comes down to just, you know, each perin's individual situation.
So I'm sure this closure next summer on I sixty
five will impact many and it It won't impact many,
but it has to happen, So I guess I don't
know if that makes you feel any better. This is
something they can't avoid. They're gonna have to have. They're
gonna have to put this work in and get it done,
and it's gonna inconvene to a lot of people. But

(11:17):
all lanes of I sixty five between Downtown Level and
the waters And Expressway will temporarily close as part of
a multi year bridge replacement project. This is one hundred
and fifty million dollars project that's gonna start labor day.
Well wait a second, is that true? Let me so
that the first phase here doesn't seem like I've got
that day doesn't seem correct. But anyways, there are three

(11:38):
overpass bridges that were built in the fifties, of course,
that have been evaluated as poor that need to be replaced.
So June and July of twenty twenty six, next summer,
there's gonna be full closure of I sixty five and
I sixty four and Jefferson Street. So we're looking at
about roughly one hundred and twenty five thousand vehicles per
day that are gonna be detoured when this is going on.

(11:59):
So there's a lot of people with I mean one
hundred and twenty five thousand, that's a lot. So this
will apparently be a seventy five year fix, meaning once
this is complete, the work is expected to be in
good shape for the next seventy five years. But the
state Transportation Secretary Jim Gray did say that you know,

(12:20):
this is one of those things that has to be done,
and that although the closure is painful, the way they've
got it set up their plan and they what they
plan to do. And again, sometimes things don't go according
to plan when it comes to these projects. But the
plan that they have is going to be able to lead.
It's going to lead them to avoiding a longer, five
year drawn out disruption. So, hey, I guess if this
is best case scenario given the fact that we know

(12:40):
this has to happen, I mean, I mean I was
gonna say, I'll live with it. What else am I
going to do?

Speaker 2 (12:44):
I have no control? Yeah, and again I.

Speaker 1 (12:47):
Mean if it's a I don't know if it's if
it's shut down for let's just say two months next summer,
that may feel like it's two years.

Speaker 2 (12:58):
Yeah, and that stinks.

Speaker 1 (12:59):
However, you will eventually, just because of the human element
being a powerful thing, you're gonna get used to it. Right,
It's not going to be hope I don't hit a
delay today, or maybe you'll find a route that you
didn't realize was there. They can, they can make it
to where you're really not. You're really not having to
add a whole lot of time to your commute.

Speaker 3 (13:17):
But I've had I've actually had that happen. That's interesting
you said that, because I've had I thought it was
going to be inconvenient. I actually found a quicker way
to go around, and it became part of my daily routine.
It was always down here.

Speaker 2 (13:27):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (13:28):
I used to come down and get off at Third
Street where you come up by the YOUM Center, and
now I get off down there by Jefferson and Brook.
And by doing so, because there was some construction I
think it's flooding or something, I realized that if I
come off there and I hit the light right, I
get all the all the green lights every morning.

Speaker 2 (13:43):
That sounds like a magic trick, all the green lights,
all right.

Speaker 1 (13:46):
Teach me your ways right, because I have noticed that
if you get green initially, you're good to go. You
get red initially, you're going to be stopped. And this
just speaks to my level of impatience. But when it's
you know, sometimes like three forty five, four o'clock in
the morning, and I don't see another soul, a vehicle
or a car or so our vehicle or an individual
in downtown, and I'm sitting in every red light, waiting, waiting, waiting,

(14:09):
it just it seems it's a Again, it's just a
reminder of how impatient I am.

Speaker 3 (14:14):
But you're not alone in the same way.

Speaker 2 (14:16):
And by the way, I like having options.

Speaker 1 (14:18):
I can there's three different exits I can get off
of on I sixty five North to get here to
our our four Street live studios, and I would say
more often than not, it's going to get me here
around the same exact time. But when I know I've
got options, because okay, looks like there's looks like there's
already a red light there at Brook Street, Boom, I'm
gonna loop around, hit Muhammad Ali and then just go
straight down. And again there really is no difference in time.
It's just if I'm not sitting still, I feel like

(14:41):
I'm here, we go.

Speaker 2 (14:43):
I found a way around it just manipulation of the mind.
I guess right.

Speaker 1 (14:46):
All right, quick break, We've got traffick in weather updates
on the way for you, and a lot more to
get into, including u of l's athletic director Josh heard
first time, I believe, at least just letting it known
he's looking forward to to addressing the twenty thirteen National
Championship banner being able to be hung back up in
the YOUM Center.

Speaker 2 (15:07):
And I'd say, right now, there's no better vibe than.

Speaker 1 (15:10):
The current one as far as just looking elsewhere and
realizing how could they realistically tell Louisville they can't hang
their banner up given the way they've handled other cases.
So we'll get to that in a lot more right
here on news radioaight forty WHS News Radio eight forty
whas it is Coffee and Company, thank you for hanging
out with us here on this wonderful Thursday morning. So yesterday,
I believe, for the first time since the NCUBA twenty

(15:32):
thirteen National Championship banner was vacated by the NCUBLEA Louisville leadership,
Josh Urad, the athletic director, says that they're ready to
start the conversations with the NCUBLEA as far as being
able to acknowledge it in their own arena that they
won the twenty thirteen National Championship, which is undeniable. We
all know that it happened. You cannot go back and

(15:52):
rewrite history. And it was always really stupid, in my opinion,
to punish anybody by vacating records results. It's just it's
it's almost insulting just because Okay, I mean, like, what
are you actually doing? And I say that knowing that
Louisville fans clearly are very bothered by it, So I
know it sounds like, oh, we don't even care, when

(16:14):
clearly a lot of people care. And that's why I've
tried my best not to reiterate too much. But I
do feel like I'm in the minority when it comes
to Louisville fans. And it's not because I think they're
wrong or right or whatever. It's just I'm different. I
don't have any I don't give any energy or thought
to the NCUBAA telling me that Louisville didn't win the
twenty thirteen National Championship, because I know.

Speaker 2 (16:34):
That they did.

Speaker 1 (16:35):
But for players, obviously them being able to go into
the arena and seeing it up there. I'm sure because
they worked for it and they realized that they didn't
have any unfair unfair advantage in the twenty thirteen tournament,
that it is an issue for them, and I get
why fans care as well. So I'm not downplaying the
NCUBA and their foolishness to try to just tell us
it didn't happen. I just I can't quite get there

(16:56):
with folks that are genuinely emotional about it to an
extent where they're going to mean again, I don't want to.
More I talk about it, the more I feel like
I'm sounding like I'm passing judgment.

Speaker 2 (17:06):
I'm not. It's just everybody's different. I just can't.

Speaker 1 (17:08):
It doesn't do anything for me. But there are many
fans and of course players people that were a part
of that that feel much differently. So Josh Hurd has
told The Courier Journal that they're ready to start those
conversations with the ncuablea a step no program is really
ever taken them for I don't think. I mean, Lois
was the only men's basketball team to ever have its
title vacated, so clearly this is a once first time

(17:30):
situation because of that alone. But in his conversation with
the CJ Hurd points out just the changing in the
NCAA landscape. There's been much lighter punishments for programs like Kansas,
North Carolina, Miami, and of course most recently Michigan football
that clearly cheated had an unfair advantage that I think
undoubtedly was a factor in some of their success, and

(17:51):
they went untouched, meaning the twenty thirteen title not at
all an issue. They're good to go and they don't
have to worry about pulling anything from their record books
or stripping anything on their campus that states they want
a title, which again that's what the NCAA requires, and
Louisville had to do that. So I just don't know
how anybody at the ns double A if Josh Hurd

(18:13):
got a hold of them and they had a formal conversation.
And I'm not even sure what the process is, right,
do you send an email, do you request a meeting
or something like that, or review on your previous case.
I'm not sure if there is a process for it.
But I'm not sure how anybody could deny that Louisville
should have every right to live in the real world
and acknowledge that they did in fact win a twenty

(18:33):
thirteen national championship whenever there have been others that just
clearly what to me is obvious is that the NCAA
decided with the Kittena Palmanardi Hall situation, the nature of
what went on, there was no punishment that was going
to be too severe just because of how disgusting it was.

(18:54):
And again I'd kind of get that. However, you have
to be consistent in how you govern and your member
institutions and what I mean, what would be the issue
with Louisville just being able to raise their banner like again,
So I we'll see what happens, but I do know
it'll be a big deal for Louisville fans when the
banner is able to be hung back up in the

(19:14):
Young Center. And I also know that when it comes
to just you know, what it's done to the fan base. Again,
I don't want to act like it's kept them up
at night, but clearly it's something that a lot of
people care about.
