Speaker 1 (00:00):
If here on a Thursday morning News Radio eight forty WHAS,

(00:02):
thanks for hanging out with us, coffee and company with you,
take us with you wherever you go. Listen live at
WHAS dot com. Also listen live on the iHeartRadio app.
What a busy, busy morning it has been. And we
got off to a rough start with a two plus
hour shutdown of I sixty five South. And it wasn't
because of an accident, That's what officers assumed when they

(00:25):
arrived around three forty five this morning on I sixty
five South. What they found instead of a collision was
a woman who had been who'd been shot. Now she
was taken to UFL hospital and has had surgery and
is expected to survive. But the investigation overall led to
again about two hours and some change where I sixty

(00:46):
five South was completely shut down. So I'm sure many
were impacted by that. But they did get that taking
care of relatively quickly as far as what I was expecting,
And again I would just be guessing as far as
what and you really never know how long it's going
to take to do what they need to do from
the law enforcement side, But yeah, they got it up
and running and been pretty smooth this morning as far

(01:06):
as traffic on sixty five, all things considered, we also
had an issue in Bullet County this morning prior to
us getting started around five am that I feel like
it could have been a lot worse, So I'm choosing
to look at things on the positive side.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
Yeah, for everything that went down and they got everybody
moving again. Because when I first saw the lenslurk come
through from Metro Safe, I thought, oh, we're going to
be down for a while, and then John came in
and update us on what he saw.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
Again, you really never know. But when you think about
all lanes closed down right before rush hour starts because
of because of an investigation, I mean again, I'm now
wired I think to just on certain things, prepare for
the worst, hope for the best, and that'll leave you
in a situation to where if it is really bad,
well at least you were prepared mentally for it yourself.
And if it's not as bad like this situation, then

(01:52):
it feels like, Okay, hey could have been a lot worse.
And that's probably what we should remind ourselves of a
lot in life. No matter what's going on, it could
be worse, and you never want to you never want
to say that, right, Well, it can't get worse than this,
because then what that is is an invitation for things
to then get.

Speaker 2 (02:07):
Worse, saying waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
Yes, that what you're saying exactly?

Speaker 2 (02:11):
Is there anything worse though, bro that being stock in
traffic with nowhere to go? I mean, especially in the
days before we could look on our phones and see
where the delay was.

Speaker 1 (02:19):
Yeah, so you're you're right, I don't disagree, but to me,
it gets you to a feeling that is the worst.
And you can have this feeling in a variety of
ways for a variety of reasons. And that's helplessness when
you can't go anywhere and you don't know why you're
stopped at all, that kind of stuff. Like, Yeah, it's
just the level of helplessness. And not to switch gears
here about something that is that is very serious and

(02:41):
not something to make light of. But I know there's
a lot of parents that have a helpless feeling. Not
just parents, but people in America have a helpless feeling.
I'm sure as far as these mass shootings that continue
to take place pretty frequently, if we're being honest and yesterday,
just looking at what we knew at the time in

(03:03):
regards to the shooting that took place in Minnesota where
two kids ages eight and ten were killed, and yet
fourteen others ages six through fifteen that were all and
three other elderly people that were injured in the situation.
They're going to be okay, they're going to survive, but
still just to know that there's another school shooting, another
mass shooting, and two kids are dead. The suspect, Robin

(03:26):
aka Robert Westman, I mean he then killed himself after
committing these heinous acts. It's just it from mine. I
can only speak for myself, but we know that crazy
people show up and shoot places, including schools, where children
are and helpless is an awful feeling in a variety

(03:47):
of ways. We just mentioned being stuck in traffic, but
the level of helplessness when it comes to this, knowing
that we've now seen a cycle to where people want
to do this, they can, and there's enough people that
want to do it to where we've had these happen,
these things happen as much as they have and it's
just awful, right, I mean, you don't want to live

(04:07):
life worried all the time and not being able to
enjoy it right because again I said this earlier, one
of the best pieces of advice that's really kind of
become at times a modo for me just to kind
of live by. Not to get too deep with it,
but you spending time on things that you can't control.

(04:28):
Letting those things that you have no control over consume
you is nothing but a recipe for you to be
unhappy and unwell. And I try to remind myself of
that a lot, but this is one of those things
that I can't accept that I can't control it, because
again we're talking about children at school, where they shouldn't
be vulnerable to these kind of situations. But it's just

(04:49):
an awful situation all the way around. And I don't
have any kind of fix. I'm not here to say, well,
they should do this, so they should do that, and
then everything would be okay. I don't know. I'm I'm
transparent enough to tell you that I don't have all
the answers. I just know that right now, the way
things are, this happening again today tomorrow cannot be as
surprise to anybody. And at what point does it get
to the level where there's something done. And again I

(05:12):
say that willing to acknowledge. I don't know if there
is the ultimate fix for it, but I mean this
individual not having any criminal history, therefore he was able
to purchase these weapons. I mean if people knew this individual,
Like if you were someone that knew this person and

(05:33):
you knew that they were legally able to purchase these
weapons and you just knew sort of the things that
were being put online, clearly there was a digital footprint
left behind by this suspect. I mean, like, how could
you be surprised at all? And we don't know for
sure who knew exactly the details about these weapons and
when they're purchased or not. But I mean, clearly, I

(05:53):
have a hard time looking at what I've seen at
this point that there weren't some signs that this person
was not well in a variety of ways, and yet
they were still able to do you know, from from
a legal standpoint, they were still able to follow through
with this this action. And clearly I guess didn't didn't
didn't didn't trigger anybody to realize, hey this, you know

(06:16):
this some doesn't seem right here? What I want to do.
On the other side, we'll tell you some of the
facts that we know about the suspect, because there are
some things that haven't yet been officially confirmed. But I
think some of these things that people are unwilling to
say are officially confirmed, it's because they don't want to know,
you know, they're just trying to once again find specific details. Right.
They want the roadmap via news that's going to convince

(06:38):
them that the way they see it is the right way.
Sometimes people don't want facts about certain things. So we'll
get to that. We've got sports updates coming your way,
traffic and weather right here right now. It's News Radio
weight forty whas.

Speaker 2 (06:49):
It is eight.

Speaker 1 (06:50):
Seventeen here at Kentucky and this morning News News Radio
waight forty w h AS. Appreciate you hanging out with
us on a very very busy Thursday morning, and it's
it's it's kind of kind of twisted how we we
we become very interested, and I guess they're no longer
with us because they are cowards and kill themselves. But
these people who commit these awful acts like shooting up

(07:12):
places and shooting up any place and just hit trying
to kill innocent victims is an unthinkable act. But obviously
it just hits different when it's children that are at
school that end up being those that lose their lives.
But we we we give them attention that they clearly
wanted some way. I mean, this person was deranged in
a way that I would never be able to know

(07:33):
as far as what could bring them to to to
commit such a heinous crime. But here, here, here's what
we just make sure I've got it and make sure. Yeah,
so when it comes to things that that that again
maybe haven't been conditionally affirmed confirmed, but the Washington Post,
I mean, I think I would trust their reporting of this,

(07:53):
and again it makes sense, Like sometimes things are very
clearly in front of you, it makes sense. It's it's
it's very believable, but people just refuse to believe it.
But there were specific inscriptions from this individual, according to
the Washington Post, one visible inscription that included quote kill
Donald Trump end quote. So that claim again appears in
multiple outlets, including the Washington Post. But I guess official

(08:16):
confirmation is pending. I don't know who's going to give
us that official confirmation, but I mean that would make
sense given the digital footprint that was left. And I
guess what is out there right now, YouTube videos and
a manifesto. I mean, the YouTube channel that was attributed
to this person posted I guess scheduled to post two videos,
had a multi page letter manifesto shortly before. That is

(08:40):
out there now. I mean, you've got videos that showed
the firearms, the ammunition, just different writings. And I just
if anybody had access to this and knew this individual,
I mean, I can't imagine what they're thinking at this point.
So again, this is somebody who was born a man
that then wanted to be a woman and had support

(09:04):
by his parents to make a to make a name
change and then do whatever I guess you do physically
to try to I guess, convince yourself whatever you want
to believe. And man, I'm i'm, I'm I'm tiptoeing here
around the whole subject. But I don't really see it
as is is really a debate. I mean, this is
a man who wanted to be a woman. That's that's

(09:25):
quite literally what I mean, that's that's science, that's facts,
and do whatever you want. I mean, I don't, I don't,
I wouldn't. I wouldn't lie to you and act like
I really care if people want to live their life
a certain way and have a lifestyle that maybe I
just I can't relate to, But hey, you know do you?
But this, I feel like is going to turn into
where this specific situation in regards to dare I say,

(09:46):
delusion or just wanting to be a gender that you
are not. There's going to be people, and there already
is many people claiming, hey, let's look into what what
chemicals this person's putting in their b what could it
do to alter not just the body, but the mind.
Because again, people are gonna want to know what could
lead somebody to be in the situation that this person's in.

(10:09):
Not as if we're ever going to find some justifiable reason.
But yeah, you mentioned to me John that you read
some of the manifesto that's out there. I mean, did
it even? I mean I just assume whatever's out there
wouldn't even be able to make sense because this person
clearly is not.

Speaker 3 (10:21):
Well, no, it's not it. It was done in shorthand
and then chad GPT was used to translate the last page,
and it's just it's rambling stream of consciousness of vulgarities
and about ending it and goings. He clearly had this,
he was thinking that. The one thing that came out
is he was thinking of this and plotting this as
late as five days ago. He was talking about going

(10:43):
to the range and getting the red dot site that
he had on that AR fifteen sited in, and then
he talked about maybe just going and buying a cheaper
one to use on it because he was having trouble
keeping it, keeping it lined up, and just he said,
my days consist of going to the range, prepping for
my mission, and going home to rot and then talking

(11:05):
about being broken again.

Speaker 1 (11:07):
I hate this, you know, because I'm a talk show host,
a four hour program we have with you each morning.
But I'm numbed to a lot of this. I don't
know what can be said for you know that that
hasn't already been said when these things happen. And again,
it's not a good place to be. I'm just being
just being transparent with you.

Speaker 3 (11:22):
Like we talked about offline, though the problem is is
it and that's why a lot of people are confused
and not know what to say on that. You're because
we try to apply rational thoughts to your traditional action
and it just they they butt against.

Speaker 1 (11:33):
Each other, no doubt, no doubt. All right, let's get
to an update of traffic and weather. We've got that
coming your way, and then also another sports update coming
up right here with Scott Fitzgerald. It's News Radio eight
