Speaker 1 (00:00):
It is seven oh five here at News Radio eight
forty whas Coffee and Company with you here Kentucky and
Morning News. So tomorrow's the big day Bourbon and Beyond
will get started. And when it comes to the logistics
and transportation component here, forty dollars a day is parking
if you do it on site and it's accessible in

(00:21):
Lot B, Gate one, and of course the shuttles are
going to run between the Kentucky International Convention Center and
the festival grounds and also park so Tark plus Park.
They're going to have you park downtown for fifteen bucks
and then that includes a bus service to get you
to and from the venue. Now, Phillip's Lane going to

(00:42):
be closed daily eight thirty am to one am, so
just keep in mind they're going to follow I think
the exact same plan for parking and logistics the following
week next week, which will be which will be Louder
than Life. Haven't heard as much about Louder than Life
this year. Not that I'm somebody that's seeking, you know,
the latest when it comes to rock music festivals. But

(01:03):
John who's the biggest name you know of coming as
far as like the you know you can see generating
some folks to travel, and I don't put you on the spot. Now.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
One thing that I think makes it a little more
underwhelming is that there's a headliner on this year's lineup
that didn't get to play last year. Do if you
remember that last year there was the hurricane that came through, Yes,
and it caused Slayer to not be able to play.
They were the big name last year because it didn't play.
They're also kind of the big name this year, which
in my opinion, caused you know, is made the lineup

(01:32):
a little more underwhelming.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
I still like a lot.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
Of the you know, B listers, if you will, so
that's what I'm looking forward to this year. But to me,
again just my opinion, I don't think the headliners are
super excited. A lot of them are repeats, That's really
what it is.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
But hey, just it just speaks to the fact that
we're spoiled, right because having repeats that are big names
that are going to bring so many people here to
come and see them. You know. It's the fact that they're
coming back means that, hey, they enjoyed themselves and it's
been a pretty good transaction on both ends. But yeah,
I guess with Layer there are people that are that
are feening for their fix of Slayer. Are you are
you are? Are you one of those people? Yeah? Avenge

(02:07):
Sevenfold again, that's that's more my cup of tea. I
like event so out of my element when it comes
to uh, you know, just I don't know much about this,
this genre of music, but clearly there are names that
I'm very familiar with just because they're they're big, and
the Vene Sevenfold is one of them.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
Rob Zombie gonna be here right, yeah, Rob Zombie. He's
a he's a louder than life regular. I think he's
been four or five times. He enjoys being in Louisville apparently.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
And we enjoy having him that we do, that's for sure.
All right. So last week it was the documentary and
I can't think of the name, something about the catfish something.
It was the the number, Yeah, the un now number.
There you go, thank you, and it it it is
still one of the most stream things currently on Netflix,
and it's just it's it's just something you really can't believe.
And it's a woman who catfished and just abused her

(02:53):
daughter and her daughter's friends via text message anonymously for
years and set awful things, horrific things, and just the
fact that she was doing it as an adult, that's
one thing, But to do it to your own child,
it's just it's insane. But I have a new Netflix
docuseries that I recommend just because it's it's I like it.

(03:14):
I really enjoy documentaries in general, but ones that really
just show me a side of life I can't relate
to that fascinates me. I actually think it's in a
weird way. I think it's kind of good for you
just to kind of, you know, just to see different
cultures and just you know, learn about different people. I'm
not as much interested as others are when it comes
to like there's going to be an eight episode reality

(03:36):
docuseries about a celebrity. Like some people eat that stuff up,
and I get it if people like what they like.
For me, that doesn't interest me at all. Like for example,
Hard Knocks super popular show. Love that type of content,
but I'm I'm not really interested in behind the scenes
of professional athletes because I just, I mean, it just
doesn't do it for me. It's no knock on them,
It's just I'm not fascinated to see how they're living.

(03:57):
It just doesn't move the needle for me. More interested
in things that you know, like for example, a version
of Hard Knocks kind of was Netflix's Last Chance You.
It's a docuseries. They did multiple seasons at different colleges
where junior college football players. It was just showing you
sort of what that lifestyle is like. And I found
that to be fascinating just because you learn a lot

(04:18):
about people's stories. And this one is this I'm going
to try not to sound insensitive here, but this one
is called Love con Revenge. And if you remember a
few years ago there there was a documentary called The
Tender Swindler, this guy who just ended up using tender,
meeting all these women and just being really really I
guess impressionable to where they fell in love with him

(04:40):
and he took all their money. And it was one
of the most watched documentaries in twenty twenty two, in fact,
I think it was. Well. Now, the woman who was
one of the victims, she has her own six episode
series on Netflix. And what this does is it features
stories of victims defrauded by romantic partners that they meet online.
This woman who's running the show, she lost about two

(05:02):
hundred and fifty thousand dollars to the guy that was
the tender swindler. But she teams up with a private
investigator to find different guys who have met women on
a dating app only to then become romantically involved, whether
it be engaged married, just dating, and they end up
just their only interest is just taking them for whatever

(05:25):
money they can get out of them. And I mean,
to be honest with you, I just can't understand how
somebody wouldn't see red flags here, Like I don't see
this as like, oh well, just you know, what can
you do the heart once with the heart once? My
love for this individual just distracted me from seeing things clearly,

(05:45):
however you want to word it, you're an idiot. I
mean these again, I feel for them because some of
them are in awful situations financially. And the real jerk
here is the guys who are taking advantage of these
women and having six or seven girl friends at the time,
and they're all getting They're all giving these guys money,
and look, they're really good at being scammers and fraudsters.

(06:08):
You shouldn't be rewarded or even complimented for that. But
like some of these women make it easy. And I
guess again, if you're just if you're so desperate to
find romance and find a life partner, maybe you're blinded
by things that are right directly in your face. But
here's what's happened in a lot of these that by
the way, my wife and I started watching it last
night and we're about three episodes in. I think it is.
And what happens is that some of these guys know
what they're doing to the point where, yeah, they can

(06:29):
be viewed as just a real scumbag and clearly like
it's obvious what they're doing. But if you voluntarily give
somebody money with no expectation of anything back, you are
you can't charge them. So that's the premise of the
show is to try to find ways to criminally charge
these individuals, and they track some of them down and
what ends up happening is that they're taking money from

(06:52):
women that are giving it to them without any hesitation
and then of course just you know, ghosting them eventually.
That's not a crime. If somebody gives you money as
a gift and there's no expectation of return, you're not
getting it back unless they just decide they want to
give it back to you. But a couple of these
guys that eventually use the money they're getting from these
women to have elaborate scams and commit fraud. And that's

(07:13):
where some of them at this point were actually charged.
But some of them, I mean, they're publicly just made
to look like complete, you know, jerks, which they are.
I'm not acting like these guys are in the right.
These guys are low life scumbags. But also I mean,
how dumb can you be, especially when you see some
of the red flags, Like he said, he owned all

(07:34):
these companies, but he has to borrow fifty bucks for
dinner one night. You're an idiot. Anyways, updates of trafficking
weather coming up right here right now and news Radio
eight forty whas. It is seven nineteen here at news
Radio eight forty whas. Thanks for hanging out with us
on a Wednesday morning. Don't forget you could take us
with you wherever you go. Listen live on the iHeartRadio app.

(07:55):
Also listen live at whas dot com. So it looks
it's like we've got some accidents out there causing some
issues and we've got on this is it can let's
see Fern Valley, yea, I was making sure. Yeah, so
we've got an accident at the I sixty five south
ramp to Fern Valley that has the right shoulder block
that's causing some delays. And also we've got another accident

(08:19):
it looks like at New Cut Road right right around there,
and then on I sixty five north at yeah, never
mind this disregard that was the that was the Fern
Valley when I was talking about. So again, not not terrible.
We've had worse as far as just accidents that are
causing issues. But again, Bobby Allis will keep you updated
on how the roads are looking. We'll get another update
coming up here in just just a couple of moments.

(08:41):
All right, So let's see the uh again. We had
somebody ask me on Twitter what the name of the
the show on Netflix that I was referring to as called.
It's called Love con Revenge, and I would encourage checking
it out, but it's one of those that you you
want to feel sorry for people, but that again you're like,
I kind of don't because I don't know how you

(09:01):
could end up putting yourself in that position. But that's
that's insensitive of me. I'm sure again, when you are,
you know when your heart won't, When your heart is
in the way because you want something so badly, meaning
a companion, you just are blinded by things. I guess.
I mean, that's the only thing I can that's the
only thing I can think of as far as just
making any making any sense of it. But yeah, check

(09:22):
it out if you haven't done, if you haven't just yet,
speaking of something, you should check out some great deals
going on at Try County four. You can start the
fall off right by taking advantage of some great deals
they've got going on, including the new all electric twenty
twenty five Ford Lightning XLT. You could lease one of
those new vehicles today for just five forty nine a

(09:43):
month on a thirty six month lease. So again, if
you're not familiar with these vehicles, this is the electric vehicle,
so you can experience legendary four toughness with zero emissions
and all the tech you need for work or play track.
Hounty Ford is just ten minutes from Louisville and Oldham
County XIT eighteen off of I seventy one. Don't wait,
drive in to see them today now when it comes

(10:04):
to the lease. It is ten thousand, five hundred miles
per year plus tax, license and dealer fees for well
qualified buyers. Again, Track County Foard just outside of Louisvel
Exit eighteen off I seventy one in beautiful Oldham County.
Go see them, Tell them, I sens you. They've got
a beautiful showroom, a beautiful beautiful lot. I mean just
state of the arc. You can see it right there
from the interstate and they'll be happy to see you.

(10:25):
And you have to worry about some things that you
might think you need to worry about. At car dealerships.
The folks who work there have worked there for a
long time. It's a family owned business for generations now.
And when it comes to car salesmen, they're not going
to be pressuring you. They're not going to make you uncomfortable.
They're going to let you take a look and see
what you might like and help you throughout that process.
So again, go see them again. It is Track County four.

(10:45):
All right, we've got travcking weather updates on the way again.
Bobby Ellis will give you more. I need to just
avoid trying to give you detailed updates because he's the
pro ad it and I'm still learning mile markers like
where in the vicinity. That is what really gets me
is whenever I can't the traffic cam, then I can't
really put a visual obviously to it, and I start
to guess, second, guess myself. But I now know I

(11:08):
two sixty four that's Waterson. I two sixty five is
the Snyder. And again I should know this. I've lived
here my whole life. I can get anywhere in Louisville
for the most part without needing GPS. I mean not anywhere,
but a lot of places. But when it comes to
naming roads and exits and mile markers, I it's not
my strength. So again, Bobby Ellis has got you covered

(11:28):
with another update on traffic. We'll get another update on
the weather as well from our news partners over there
WLKY right here on news radio eight forty WHAS. Thank
you very much, John Shannon, seven thirty five Here on
a Wednesday morning. It is Kentucky and morning News News
Radio eight forty WHAS Coffee and company with you, Nick Coffee.
That's me the company man, John all On alongside Saday.
The full team is here. You just heard from John

(11:51):
Shannon and also you've got Scoffige cherld. So again we're
all here, we're ready to rock and roll. I don't
know why I forgot John Shannon's name there for a second.
Trust me, he's a memorable guy. I enjoy working with him.
I know his name. I just had a had a
brain fart there, all right, So this is something that
really interested me because without ever really thinking about it,
I can now say, after thinking about it, I am

(12:11):
somebody that really enjoys do it yourself projects d I
Y so d I Y projects. Uh. They give homeowners
a confidence boost. And whenever I teach myself how to
do something YouTube chat, GPT, it is. It is nice
to know that you know you didn't need to take

(12:33):
you know you can quickly teach yourself right now. You're
relying on resources that help you learn, and of course
there's a lot of trial and error. But is there
anything around your house, John, that you that you can
now do that you realize like years ago you thought no,
I would never know how to do it, but you
had to teach yourself.

Speaker 2 (12:48):
I mean, and when it comes to like building stuff,
like as long as I got a set of directions,
I don't know if that's really teaching myself how to
do it. But I'm confident that I can follow a
set of directions and build pretty much an any little
thing that and that may come through our through our mailbox,
if that's what you want.

Speaker 1 (13:03):
To call it. Well, like I got something to tell you.
I mean you have you have a newborn baby?

Speaker 2 (13:08):
Yeah? Is that the building your stuff.

Speaker 1 (13:11):
You're going to get? I mean you your confidence just
it's it's adorable because they give you these things that
just want to make your They want they want your
life to be difficult. The manufacturers of toys and strollers
and new car seats, they whenever they're in their laboratory
or whatever their creative process is to design these things,

(13:32):
they want to make sure that you want to throw
it out the window, maybe break it before you then
can actually get it put together. So I'll say this
about figured out. But you only have more strollers so far,
and and that thing is is easy to work with, thankfully.
I feel like most people hate their stroller from what
you just hearn what you just said, so we've just
had a you know, the stroller, more so than anything

(13:54):
is just the inconvenience of of of getting it up
and getting it down, and honestly, it gets it gets
a little bit more busy because the stroller for newborn
is pretty simple, but like strollers with the kids that
a little bit older, you know, they're putting stuff in it.
They eventually, you know, they they're a little bit although
newborn strollers are big as well, just because you've got
precious cargo and also you've got you know, room for
the diaper bag, that kind of stuff. But yeah, there

(14:15):
have been toys that we've got the kids that we
ordered online and I mean it's it's an insult to
get it out of the box and see how many
pieces it has and the instructions that are just not that.
But again I'm complaining, probably more so just because I'm
not as I'm not great at teaching myself how to
do those kind of things. But yeah, I'm sure in
the last fifteen years, maybe even a little bit longer

(14:37):
than that, with the access to the Internet and YouTube,
you really have resources to probably teach yourself to do
just about anything. And you know, a lot of it
is still trial and error, and of course I'm sure
a lot of folks have tried to teach themselves something
by relying on a certain video, and it just didn't
It didn't break it down as as easily as you wanted.

(14:58):
Or maybe it was it was too it was too
long to get to the point. But yeah, I for
me the one I mean, when I'm eighty years old,
God willing I make it that long. And I think
back to my early, my early years as a parent.
The car seat. Now, once you have the car seat in,
it's fine because you know you don't you know, you

(15:21):
don't take the car now you you've probably got like
the holder for the for the carry right, Yes, oh
that's smooth. But like car seats, like getting them, getting them,
like securely buckled to your seat belts. And we did
a lot of for the first few months of our
time as a parent, you know, we when my wife
wasn't back to work just yet, we did a lot

(15:41):
of all right, we're going to give the baby to
grandma or give it to you know, my their aunt,
my sister. And you know, they didn't have new they
didn't have a built in car seat, right because they
don't have a new born, you know what I mean.
So getting that base secure, there's probably not I feel
and again and I'm exaggerating here. I don't feel like
there's an auto there's a manufacturer of an automobile that

(16:03):
I didn't at least have to figure out how I'm
going to get this thing strapped to the back of
the seat belt, and all of them seemed to be
created differently, and the child. I mean, again, it's not
at the end of the day, it's not that big
of a deal, right. It wasn't something that truly impacted
my life negatively. But I had a lot of moments
where I was happy that nobody else was around because
I cursed and probably just you know, I was defeated.
It is what it was, John, I was defeated the

(16:25):
well that was me.

Speaker 2 (16:25):
Whenever we first brought our daughter home, we had to
put the car seat holder in the back of my
wife's rogue, and I hadn't practiced doing it, and I
was sent to go put the car seat holder inside
the back seat while they were waiting at the front
of the hospital, and I felt like I was making
a fool of myself. I took way too long doing that. Thankfully,
I wasn't, you know, shamed for it, but it was
one of those things. Thankfully, It's one of those things

(16:47):
where once you get it where it needs to go,
you don't ever have to move it again.

Speaker 1 (16:50):
And this is when you're leaving, right, Yes see, that's
what that's the beauty, because I feel like you probably
were just not even realizing that you were overthinking it
because you're leaving the hospital was a child that you
brought into the world.

Speaker 2 (17:04):
And not only that, we and you're well aware that
we stayed at the hospital for a few extra days
because days using the Nike you. But it was one
of those things because we got kind of so used
to I know a lot of people like you have
the baby, are there for a day or two and
you're gone. When you have those extra week week and
a half from the situation that we had, and then
you finally leave, it's like, oh my gosh, this is
finally happening.

Speaker 1 (17:24):
It was very crazy, no doubt, leaving the hospital is
always something that'll stick with you. But for you, especially
just given the fact that you guys had to wait
a little bit longer, I'm sure that made it even
more special. When I think back to leaving the hospital
with our first I remember and I've later heard that
it's a common thing, but I didn't even realize I
was doing it. But again, you're not. I mean, it's
almost it's one of those moments where you really it's

(17:45):
almost like you're not really there. At least for me
it was, and I'm sure other parents have felt the
same thing. But we were leaving the DuPont area that's
where we had our children. I can't think of which
hospital it was. I can get you there. I can't
think of what it's called, though, but ours.

Speaker 2 (17:58):
Was Norton Women and Children.

Speaker 1 (17:59):
I don't know that's it might have been where we were,
as well as that same area over there's also a Baptista.
We were at Norton, I believe. But you know, we're
leaving and I just remember thinking like this is crazy.
Did we left the hospital and we now are parents?
And it's exciting, it's scary. There's just a lot to it.
And we get on Waterson to hit sixty five and
my wife she looked over at me and asked her

(18:21):
are you okay? And I'm like, yeah, are you good?
Are you go? You good? Anything? You good? You okay?
You go? Everything all right? Like I'm like, you know,
just and she says, you're going twenty five miles an hour.
I was barely I was barely moving on the interstate,
not even realizing it. But because you know, I'm driving up,
I'm driving home my baby. So yeah, good good times.
But yes, that's That's something I don't miss is having

(18:42):
to whenever we would have different sitters people watch the baby,
we would have to put the base of the car
seat into different vehicles. And I was not good at that.
I'm sure others are a lot better than me. But anyways,
good stuff. Let's get to a quick time out. We've
got tracking weather updates on the way right here on
news ready to mad forty whas. I think it would
be an understatement to say that Cracker Barrel's initial plans

(19:04):
to make some changes backfired in a major way. I'm
not sure any publicity is good publicity. I'm not sure
that the Cracker bail situation would be a good example
of that. But they did announce officially that they're pausing
the restaurant remodel program, following again a lot of criticism
from loyal customers. So the move comes just weeks after

(19:25):
they also reversed a plan to modernize and simplify the
logo they're calling it modernizing and simplifying it. I mean,
it just it really, let's just take away the fact
that people were up in arms because Cracker Barrel went
away from what made Cracker Barrel appealing to people. Like
the logo looks like something chat GPT generated and it

(19:47):
was like the first the first generation, meaning like you'd
have to crank it out six more times to get
a better looking one because it wasn't anything special. But yeah,
the CEO has said that the goal was to make
Cracker Barrel quote fresh and attract while retaining signature charm.
But of course customers didn't like it. And what I
still don't understand is with Cracker like if you're Cracker Barrel,

(20:11):
and again I'm not I'm not in a position to
ever make changes for a company like Cracker Barrel as
far as what they should do, right, I'm sure. In fact,
I know there's way more information that I don't have
that that that you know is needed when it comes
to deciding what this this entity should do. But I
just can't imagine what scenario they would look at freshening

(20:34):
some things up and decide, let's abandon what makes us
what we are because if you got rid of like
all the southern charm, as they call it. I'm talking
about like the the rocking chairs, the checkerboards, the shop
that's to the right when you walk in before you
go and get seated. If you take that away, who
are you like to me, You're just you're you've lost

(20:57):
really and you know, not only an idy that I
think is actually pretty, you know, it's just it's it's nostalgic.
I've been going to a cracker barrel, not not often,
but like, I mean there's a cracker barrel near my house.
I've been many times, and I like cracker barrel. But
you know, even if you you know, I think it's
a good if it's it's a good identity. But even
if I didn't what they had planned on doing, I

(21:18):
don't eat, Like, how do you identify them? What are
they like? They're just a I mean you clearly get breakfast,
but like what's the I hate to say what's the theme?
Because you can have a restaurant that has a concept
and an atmosphere and it's not really like a theme
kind of thing. But yeah, they they clearly didn't make
the right decision and didn't read the room as far
as their customers that like them for what they are.

(21:38):
And apparently only four of their six hundred and sixty
locations had been remodeled as part of a test, and
they've let everybody know that if you haven't been remodeled yet,
you're not going to get remodeled. But I wonder what
those four are going to do? Right? Do they go
back or they is this a is this a case
study to see? Because again, I just if you've got
the option to pick a cracker barrel that's the new

(22:00):
that's been remodeled or the one that has been the
same for the most part for a long long time,
who's picking the new one unless you just want to
see it? So yeah, that uh, that backfired. That's a
that's an understatement. All Right. We've got trafficking weather updates,
Bobby l us tell us how the roadways they're looking
here on a Wednesday morning. We've got another sports update
coming your way as well, right here on News Radio
