Speaker 1 (00:02):
Thank you very much, John Shannon, good stuff six so
six here on a Monday morning news radio eight forty
whas coffee and company with you, Nick Coffee, that's me
Scott Fitzgerald alongside, And of course you just heard John
Shannon as we react to a big weekend here in town.
I'm not at all surprised to hear what John just
shared there. In fact, he shared something with me that
I had no clue. We'll get to that in just
a second. First day of fall, I didn't know, so
(00:24):
happy fall season is it is here, but Friday's Louder
than Life. That crowd broke the record of the biggest
turnout among the two music festivals Bobbing and Beyond in
Louder than Life, of course, which take place back to
back weekends here in September. And I wouldn't even be
able to guess. I couldn't even tell who the headliner
was because I just that's this, you know, As I've
(00:46):
mentioned throughout the last few weeks, this just isn't really
my thing. But I do know how big of a
deal it is. And Friday was the day where everybody
was trying to get tickets. I mean, they no longer
had Like when they stopped letting people in, that's when
you know that it's it's it's that crowded, right, So
I feel like the Bourbon and Beyond is more of
a people around here, like again you and people who
(01:08):
travel for Bourbon and Beyond of course, but also it's.
Speaker 2 (01:12):
It's a more broad.
Speaker 1 (01:15):
It's more appealing to a broad audience as far as music,
and with Louder than Life, it's more so music that
if you're not really into the metal rock scene, you
may you may go twenty bands or artists before you
see a name even recognize. But the people who like
that this is their time to shine, This is the event,
(01:36):
this is their super Bowl, if you will. And again,
I don't have any way of knowing this as far
as any there's no data that you could that I
know of that's out there, but I kind of feel
like that Friday might have been one of the biggest
tickets to get in Louisville for any event that I
can think of. I mean, I'm serious as far as
the amount of people and just I mean everybody wanted
(01:59):
to get in, and that just speaks to what these
events have done for Louisville. So many people that have
made a trip to Louisville once or maybe they do
it now annually because of this event. So big thanks
to Danny Wember and his crew for not only giving
us these great events, but they're going to stick around.
Ten years is the new deal they signed not that
long ago to keep these events here.
Speaker 3 (02:18):
Wow, I didn't realize it was ten years. I know
they extended the deal to your point, though, We were
talking about this Saturday when I got home in the
city game. My daughter was over for the weekend, and
we were talking about Aaron and I were watching the
TikTok videos.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
From You Could Get Lost, watching the contest.
Speaker 3 (02:35):
I went down that rabbit hole and I was like,
oh my okay, I gotta get out of here. I
gotta get out of here now. I'm not gonna knock anybody.
Speaker 2 (02:42):
You can't turn away. That's what it can.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
And there's no way to say that without it sounding
like you're like you're calling people freaks, and that's not
at all. And by the way, I'm not putting any
words in anybody's mouth, but that's just there's no way.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
I've yet to.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
Find a good landing spot to really talk about why
I can't get enough of this, but I want it
to sound endearing, not as not as if Wow.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
Can you get a load of these people like wow?
I mean, that's kind of what it is.
Speaker 1 (03:07):
But you know, if I had never gone to the event,
which I did once for thirty minutes just for content,
I would never really understand. I guess, just like the
vibe that's there as to where it's I mean, I
guess there was one fight that ended up going viral
on video, and you would expect those kind of things
that happen really any music festival. But what I think
really puts in perspective is that that's apparently rare. As
(03:27):
many people that go and what the scene is with
you know, mosh pits and people just raging, it's actually,
for the most part kind of peaceful among.
Speaker 2 (03:36):
Those that are there.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
Again, you'll have things that take place with any event
with Booze and that many people. You're gonna have some
level of a dust up here and there, some type
of situation where maybe you need securities presence or law
enforcement's presence. But overall, it's a really rare thing when
you consider the amount of people that are there. So
I'm sure you had a tough time turning away TikTok.
When Louder than life content hits the algorithm, Scott, it's
(04:00):
a drug.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
And doesn't go anywhere.
Speaker 3 (04:01):
You're right, And I think the thing that caught out,
the one common denominator we all talked about was what
they call the wall of death, and that is.
Speaker 2 (04:09):
Where they got sounds awesome. What right? I saw death content?
Speaker 3 (04:16):
Right, I saw a wall of death and like, okay,
I'm in all right, let me let me see. This
is to me so basically, it's kind of like the
scene out of Brave Heart where the two line up
against each other and then they run at each other.
And I mean nobody got hurt. To your point, it
was they all kind of got into and there they
did their thing. I'm never gonna knock anybody for their
musical taste because music's awesome and no matter what your
(04:37):
vibe is, that is all good.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
But another layer here, Scott, I think is also these
folks realize their music that they love, that's a big
part of their culture. And just I guess maybe they're
you know, what, they enjoy their lifestyle. It's not mainstream, no,
And I think so that that gives them a level
of like kind of knowing, Hey, we're we're not viewed
as a mainstream type of genre anymore, but hey, we
(05:01):
still love it. And again, this is the super Bowl
for rock metal music. And to have it right here
in our backyard, it's, uh, it's cool and it's something
to see.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
Those people were feeling the vibe.
Speaker 3 (05:10):
There were a couple of times I tried to get
my camera out when I was downtown because I wanted
to take a picture.
Speaker 2 (05:13):
I want to take pictures of some of the gear folks.
Will It's like it's costplay for sure. Like this, it's
a like you don't just show up.
Speaker 1 (05:19):
You have to have Like you don't have to, but
a lot of people they gotta they gotta fit.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
For every day. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (05:24):
And if you're that passionate about what you what you're
at an event you're at, you're all right in my book.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
I don't care who you are. I'm with you.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
This is a sacred event for a lot of people,
and I think it makes me kind of wish I
had an event like that, you know what I mean,
Like I wish I wish there was something that I
just everything's all, you know, I don't care what's going on.
I'm I'm blocked in for four days because I'm with
my people. This is our time to shine. I don't
have anything like that.
Speaker 2 (05:46):
Well, let's get you to the final four with these cards. Yeah, element,
I'll take that. I know you will. That's say.
Speaker 1 (05:51):
That'd be fun, that'd be fun, all right, quick, Frank.
We got trafficking weather updates on the way. Rain is
on the way as well. Man Malo's bitch will tell
us what we need to be worried about there, So
stick with us right here on news RADIOHS.
Speaker 2 (06:02):
It is six eighteen here at News Radio eight forty.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
Whas appreciate you hanging out with us. Coffee and company
with you something you heard earlier if you were with
us during the sports update with Scott and I'm sure
you're gonna hear.
Speaker 2 (06:14):
About it throughout the day.
Speaker 1 (06:15):
A real scary situation over at Churchill Downs as a
well known jockey, Brian Hernandez had an injury that is
severe to say the least. Brian Hernandez Junior, according to
the Pollock Report, was thrown from his horse mid race,
and his wife shared on social media that he was
rushed the ICU at UFL Hospital where doctors treated him
for seven broken ribs, a punctured lung, and internal bleeding.
(06:40):
So just a scary, scary situation, a reminder that what
these jockeys do is in fact a very dangerous thing.
It's a rare situation to see really anything like this,
but certainly to this extent, very very eye opening and
scary just to consider that. You know, those horses are
going really really fast, right, But I.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
Mean that's the thing.
Speaker 3 (07:00):
They don't just get on these horses and get you know,
go run the circle a couple of times.
Speaker 1 (07:03):
There's no airbags, right any given moment, you know, any
movement from from from the horse, I mean, any moment.
I mean, I'll be honest with just looking at the
severity of his injuries, it's just a reminder. It actually
makes me think that it surprises it doesn't happen more,
just because again, there's a lot of races each and
every these guys, they're in multiple races most often throughout
(07:24):
every day that they're there at whatever track they're at.
So hopefully he can he can get recovered, and you know,
obviously it'd be great if you can end up getting
out there. But I think it's a little more serious
than that as far as just hopefully he can get well,
because you know, broken ribs, punctured lung, internal bleeding, that
is some scary stuff. So he is not that far
moved from being on a Kentucky Derby winner Mystic Dan
(07:44):
back in the one hundred and fiftieth Kentucky Derby. Bryn
and Hennies Junior was the jockey theres So hopefully he
can he can get well, but a scary situation, no diet,
no doubt, and again it's just a reminder that he
didn't happen very often, but it can happen. And really
at any moment, you just don't know when you get
on one of those horses and and they take off.
I mean, I'm sure you're focused on executing what it
is you do as far as the role that you
(08:05):
have in this race, but you don't really never know
what's going to happen. And it's a dangerous, dangerous situation
for sure. All right, we've got another update of traffick
and weather coming your way again. The rain is on
the way, it'll be here. Maybe it's here right now.
Speaker 2 (08:17):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (08:17):
I'm in this phenomenal studio. We have here at four
Street Live where I can't see if it's raining, and
I hope it's not, but if so, stay safe and
we'll get you updated as best we came with Mamlosovich
right here on there's RADIOA forty WHAS. All right, it
is six thirty five here on a Monday morning. Happy
Monday to you, Kentucky, and take us with you wherever
you go. You can listen live on the iHeart radio app.
Also listen live at whas dot com. I'm looking here
(08:41):
at the NFL scorers from yesterday, because what a day
it was, the Witching Hour as the final minutes, we're
ticking away on the first set of games in the
one o'clock hour, meeting those that started at one o'clock.
I mean, talk about an unexpected I mean just just chaos.
I mean you had weel go for the win, you
had blocked field goals.
Speaker 2 (09:03):
Just an absolute mess.
Speaker 1 (09:04):
And then by the time you get to week three,
even though we don't know for sure, you kind of
feel like you have at least some level of indication
of which teams are in the running to maybe be
a real contender, and which teams may be in the
running to maybe be in line to get the number.
Speaker 2 (09:16):
One pick in the next NFL draft.
Speaker 1 (09:19):
And I tell you what, the Browns were a team
that I just assume, well, yeah, they're probably going to
be really bad this year. They'll go with Joe Flacco
at quarterback, and you know they're a mess. To the Browns. Well,
then they go in and beat the Packers, who I
thought going in was maybe the best team in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (09:33):
Well see, and that's my rule of thumb. And I
like your thinking, Nick. My rule of them at least
with the NFL is week four. Week four. You know
what you have until then. Because I said the same thing.
We were watching the game yesterday and we were watching
red zone and I told people I.
Speaker 2 (09:47):
Saw good as red zone. Oh my god, dude, it
is like yesterday was a rack to me.
Speaker 1 (09:51):
Yesterday was a day to really remember this. There's the
end of the NFLS is so great. But anyways, back
to your point, Sorry, no, no.
Speaker 2 (09:56):
No, that's okay. And I told everybody, I said, be careful.
Speaker 3 (10:00):
Everybody was just all over the pack laying it on thick,
painting them with a brush. And then you start getting
into this mode where hot takes. They start folks in
the national media start repeating themselves. It's almost like they
kind of feed off each other. And I'm like, hold up,
I'm not saying the Pack aren't good, and I'm not
saying the Pack aren't gonna win the NFC North, but
hold on all the hype talk and lo and behold
(10:20):
look what happened.
Speaker 1 (10:20):
And it kind of felt like they were just kind
of letting Cleveland hang around and getting cute, see, and
then they messed around and actually lost.
Speaker 2 (10:27):
Yeah, I tell you what.
Speaker 1 (10:29):
You mentioned week four. You're right, because week four, your
season's not defined one way or the other just yet.
But you you know, if you're in good shape or
you know, if you need to really work on some things. Yeah,
and I cannot believe we're already three weeks in. I
mean three weeks in the week Week three will conclude tonight,
which is uh, which should be It should be a
good matchup. Although you don't have a whole lot of confidence.
Speaker 2 (10:50):
In yours this year.
Speaker 3 (10:51):
I know there's there's a lot of missing parts there,
and that's okay, But let me ask you this. Let
me ask cause, is there one team you love to
watch lose the most in the NFL?
Speaker 2 (11:00):
Oh? My goodness, it's the Kansas City chief probably a
number one answer.
Speaker 1 (11:03):
Yeah, and then really they're kind of there have been
some teams that here and there. I've kind of gone
back and forth on Yeah. For example, I'm not a
big Sean Payton fan, so when the Broncos lose, I
kind of I kind of enjoy that. But that's relatively new.
I'm a full fledged hater of the Chiefs, and I'll
admit it. It's because they're great and I want to
see their dynasty come to an end. They aren't great villains.
Speaker 2 (11:24):
By the way.
Speaker 1 (11:25):
I mean to dislike Patrick Mahomes, but I don't, you know,
I think he's actually a pretty good dude. I think
he's probably pretty relatable to be the star that he is.
I think that that Kelsey's kind of a kind of
a d d bag, if you will, But like he's harmless.
I don't think he's a bad human to where like,
you know, sure he boils my blood.
Speaker 2 (11:44):
You know I need a good villain.
Speaker 1 (11:45):
You only give you any By the way, to be clear,
I don't know any of these individuals as real human beings.
I'm just talking from as from a sports perspective. So
when I use the word. When I use the word hate,
I know some people probably think, well, that's a little harsh.
I'm talking in a sports level. Raymond Green is the
perfect villain, yeah, because he embraces that you that you
hate him, and he plays into that.
Speaker 3 (12:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (12:05):
I get the Chiefs don't.
Speaker 1 (12:07):
Really have any anybody that does that for me. However,
they're just so good and I'm over and I'm over.
Speaker 2 (12:11):
It, I see.
Speaker 3 (12:12):
And that's where I'm at with the Packers and and
that's their to their arrival, and that stems from my childhood.
It has to be the Packers.
Speaker 2 (12:18):
And still they're fans on the team. Scott, Oh no,
he I hadn't heard that.
Speaker 3 (12:22):
I think Dave Jennings might have told me that, right,
And I think to that we were talking about that.
It was the Packers start and and I was so
tired of hearing about Caleb Williams already.
Speaker 2 (12:32):
Oh yeah, I know, I'm with you on that.
Speaker 3 (12:33):
Yeah, And I'm like cowboy fans, no offense. But man,
you lost to the Bears, dude.
Speaker 2 (12:37):
You know what's funny? Not a good team.
Speaker 1 (12:38):
The Bears are a team that I've always wanted to
be like my second team because I love Chicago. I
love Chicago sports, sports culture I used to be before,
I mean sports radio. That really kind of helped me
figure out what the way I wanted to be on
the air. My style was from a lot of shows
in Chicago, and and uh, look, I like Chicago, but
the Bears anytime I've wanted to be like, Okay, I
(12:59):
can pull for them. It's a quarterback that makes me
realize I can't like Jay Cutler. No, thanks, not going
to cheer for that guy, Kaylinn Williams. He's harmless, I suppose,
but like I don't. I think he's just you know,
I think it's all hype. Like I've never really watched
him and felt like, wow, this guy's great, but yet
he gets all the hype.
Speaker 2 (13:14):
So that's that's interesting.
Speaker 1 (13:16):
You know. I'm glad you asked that question because I
think it's such It's it's very true in most instances,
but rarely do we think about it when it.
Speaker 2 (13:24):
Comes to sports. The teams you dislike, that's part of
the entertainment too. That's it, right, Like that's why I
asked the question. Yeah, I mean, it's it.
Speaker 1 (13:30):
You know, you can have a good day in the
NFL if your team wins in your other, I mean,
it's a great day. If teams you don't, maybe you're
not focused on it, but you know, it's it's like
a show.
Speaker 2 (13:42):
Everybody's got a role.
Speaker 1 (13:43):
There's good guys, bad guys, and how people perceive who's
the good guy and who's the bad guy is all different.
But I thought yesterday not that there's ever a bad
Sunday in the NFL. Yesterday just kind of felt like
a reminder. The reminder I didn't really need was I
could do. This is awesome like an NFL Sunday when
you're sitting there replying or you got Red Zone going amen,
I mean, God, bless America.
Speaker 3 (14:03):
Well it went to your point where were collectively all
sitting around to smell the crock pot throughout the house,
and we were sitting around watching Green Bay lose, and
we were all cheering on green Bay to lose, and
that was that was just fun. And and now that
thanks to my daughter who created this fantasy football league
for the family. My wife went in kicking and screaming,
so did some of her sisters. But even yesterday, we're
(14:23):
watching the Red Zone and they show when CD Lamb
went down and I said to my wife and go,
you got CD LAMB.
Speaker 2 (14:28):
She goes, oh, yeah, how's he doing?
Speaker 3 (14:29):
I said.
Speaker 1 (14:31):
No, I said it's fun yesterday you know you meant
you described the crock pot going and just being around
family for games. I'm just thinking, okay, that we are
at a at a spot here as these one o'clock
games are wrapping up where this is. This is why
the NFL is great, and we we long for those
moments all throughout the off season. Yeah, and when it's
here and it's it's awesome. Nothing better, Amen, nothing better.
Speaker 2 (14:53):
Good stuff.
Speaker 1 (14:54):
Right, let's get to a quick break. We've got traffic
and weather updates on the wage. You heard John Shannon.
The rain is entering the listening area, so we'll keep
you updated on that. And we'll let you hear what
Charlie Kirk's wife had to say yesterday. Some powerful words
from her as thousands showed up to honor and remember
her husband, who, of course was tragically assassinated just a
little under two weeks ago. So we are loaded the
(15:15):
rest of the way. Stick with us right here, News
Radio eight forty whas. So it looks like on I
sixty four East near Blanken Baker Parkway. We've got a
disabled vehicle that has the right shoulder blocks.
Speaker 2 (15:29):
So again, things can always change.
Speaker 1 (15:30):
But as of right now, it looks like despite some
disabled vehicles and of course a lot of construction still
going on in the area, we are off to a
pretty smooth start when it comes to traffic. But again,
things could change, and if so, we'll let you know
as soon as we know. All right, So, yesterday, thousands
of people on hand in Arizona as Charlie Kirk's memorial
took place, and I think what Roory O'Neil said earlier
(15:53):
when he joined us was spot on. The comments from
Charlie Kirk's wife were probably the biggest talking point, just
because his wife, Erica, not only saying that she forgave
the person who killed assassinated her husband. I felt like
we believe her as far as having that forgiveness. I
(16:14):
think it's one thing to say that because you feel
like it's gonna make you, it's gonna make you look
good in that time. And I can't begin to process
any level of being able to relate to what she's
going through. It's just an unthinkable thing. But I mean,
to me, she seemed very sincere and what a powerful thing,
because I know it'd be.
Speaker 2 (16:31):
Hard for me to be able to say that I
do actually.
Speaker 1 (16:33):
Have forgiveness for someone who did this with this individual
is alleged to have done.
Speaker 4 (16:40):
She wanted to save young men, just like the one
who took his life. That young man, I forgive him.
Speaker 1 (16:56):
So again, powerful stuff, and none of us, well, I
shouldn't say nothing because you really never know. And this
is a big audience we have here at has most
will never know what you would ever do in that situation. God,
you know, and that's something you should thank God for.
You never have to deal with something like this, however,
you know, to see someone be able to have that,
(17:18):
I mean I again clearly, it's it's this is the
biggest story I think still in our country as far
as what took place a little under two weeks ago,
and it's going to be talked about. But when it
comes to that, like I can't even form an opinion.
I can't, I can't relate at all, Like I try
to whenever we we share information as best we can
and try to you know, put you know, put put
(17:40):
some opinion to it. That's kind of what this is.
I just I can't. You know, God bless her. I
know that that would be very, very hard to say
the least for many people, including myself. Here's President Trump
talking about Charlie Kirk yesterday.
Speaker 3 (17:53):
He did not hate his opponents.
Speaker 2 (17:55):
He wanted the best for them.
Speaker 3 (17:58):
That's where I disagreed with, which Charlie, I hate my
opponent and I don't want the best for them.
Speaker 2 (18:05):
I'm sorry.
Speaker 1 (18:07):
If anything, he's at least being honest there, right, And
I'm sure there are some that get fired up at
hearing that, But that doesn't do anything other than even
if that's the way you believe, which again I believe
he believes that we have a president that a lot
of things about him different than others. And regardless of
what you think about his his you know what he's
(18:29):
doing as the president. What to me is the biggest
just difference, and it's sometimes just jarring.
Speaker 2 (18:36):
Is that he is fueled by people who hate him.
Speaker 1 (18:37):
He's not looking to appease somebody that is from the
other side that didn't vote for him. He wakes up
every day and is energized and motivated to continue to
have those people further hate him. And look, if anything,
he's just being honest, being real, and maybe some people
find that endearing because most politicians are not that. But
(18:58):
either way, I mean that can't do anything when it
comes to helping us no longer be at each other's
throats and be so divided. But you know, I I'm
sure some people are of the same belie And again
I get it as far as just right now we
are divided for good reason. There's a lot of you know,
but I'll leave it alone. I wasn't going to say
(19:21):
anything controversial. It's just did he need to say that?
And again the answer is no. But if anything, he's
just being transparent. That's the truth. He hates his opponents,
and maybe you can just find uh some some uh
maybe you just find that to be refreshing that he won't.
He won't.
Speaker 2 (19:40):
He won't lie. He won't. He won't deny it. But
if he did deny, we would know he's lying. Right
all right? Quick update of traffick you weather.
Speaker 1 (19:45):
We've got sports coming your way next right here on
news radio eight forty w h A
