Speaker 1 (00:01):
Eight oh five here on a Monday morning news radio
eight forty whas coffee and company with you big weekend
here in Louisville. We've talked a lot about the crowd
that was here for Louder than Life, two back to
back weekends where a lot of folks in town to
take in two great music festivals that of course have
become really a part of something I look forward to
as somebody who doesn't even go to these events, at

(00:23):
least not regularly by any means, I look forward to
knowing we're going to have we have some company in
September every year from across the globe, and certainly I
know a lot of folks benefited from that, meeting businesses
and sounds like that. The show was a lot of fun. Also,
Louisville football was back in action this past weekend, and
I really don't have a whole lot to share as
far as just thoughts on the team, and if you're

(00:45):
in that same position, I get it. I did go
on a little bit of a rant earlier just because
as a fan of college football in general, and of
course a team that I'm a big fan of, being
a big fan of Louisville changed my life.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
To be honest with you, feel like we've been robbed.

Speaker 1 (01:01):
Louisville fans have been robbed of a fourth of the
college football twenty twenty five season because you will be
a month into your season before you've actually played anybody
that is expected to challenge you. And although JMU did
challenge you and that wasn't a great look, it's tough
to really know what that means. It's tough to know
what it means when Louisville was able to win without

(01:23):
much trouble against a bowling Green State team. So Louisville
being the only team in the Power For that has
yet to play another Power FOR team, and that is
going to go the only team that's going to go
a month before they actually, you know, have a game
that's notable. I mean, not only is that probably not
ideal for Jeff Brohm, he wants to probably know where
his team is. And the human element is a powerful

(01:45):
thing in every aspect of life, including sports, and this
some people will say, well, it doesn't matter, they should
go out there and play every day like it's the
super Bowl. Okay, well, good luck being able to continue
to convince yourself that these guys know who they're playing.
These guys know it's a month in and nobody's talking
about Louisville because why would they. They haven't actually had
had a challenge, had a test. So you know you

(02:05):
want to take the field every day is if it's
the last game you'll ever play, leave it all out there.
But you know the human element is a powerful thing.
You also know you're playing it against Bowling Green State
with a stadium that's sixty percent ful.

Speaker 3 (02:16):
Well, you're right, Nick, And I mean, let's be honest.

Speaker 4 (02:19):
They allowed three sacks in that game, which is usually
uncharacteristic of a coach. Brohm Er, even though Louisville Cardinal's
usually strong in the offensive line. Coach had this to
say afterwards when asked about his offensive line.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
Yeah, I just felt like part of that.

Speaker 1 (02:31):
I'm hearing him say between the lines, throw the ball,
talking about Miller Mass holding on to it too long.

Speaker 4 (02:37):
Right, I mean, it just seemed like every time I
turned on the game Saturday and they were throwing, they
were throwing a penalty flag.

Speaker 1 (02:43):
And look, I don't I'm not bringing any of the
subtact as if like I'm discouraged.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
I have no clue if louisvill is very good or not.
I really don't.

Speaker 1 (02:50):
I think there's some examples you could point to and
be concerned, and then there's others that you could point
to and say, you know, hey, we'll be pretty good
once we get to facing You just don't know.

Speaker 2 (02:59):
The reality is you don't know. But when I you.

Speaker 1 (03:02):
Know, there's not a whole lot of energy and enthusiasm
and excitement around Louisville football. And that's not because people
are discouraged and they they are out and they're not
all in. I think Louisville fans know that, hey, would
Jeff brom here, we got a chance to be pretty
good consistently, and who knows, maybe every now and then
you have a really special season. So it's not like

(03:23):
people are turned off. But the schedule is a reminder
of to me that you know, this day and age,
you got to give people something. You can't just say, hey,
our first four games are gonna be our first three
games in the first month. We're gonna have a bye week,
and then we're gonna play Bowling Green Stay, We're gonna
play James Madison, and we're gonna play Eastern Kentucky and
I want all of you to come just because you're
fans and you love the cards. That's not how life

(03:43):
is anymore. And I say this like I'm criticizing Louisville.
This isn't really their fault. The ACC put the schedule together.
Why they waited so long to give louis a game,
I don't know. And they were supposed to have a
game against Indiana. Indiana canceled, and to Jeff Brohm's credit,
he aggressively tried to this year on the schedule get
too u SEC teams Ole Miss and Tennessee, but they
didn't want to play Louisville. And I get why they

(04:04):
woudn't want to.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
Play Levell because if you beat him, it's what you're
supposed to do in Louisville.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
And Jeff Brohm, especially if it's a big time game,
he kind of does well in those situations. So I'm
just a disgruntled fan and I'm taking it out on
the radio here, which is probably not what I'm supposed
to be doing, but I'm I'm being transparent.

Speaker 3 (04:17):
No, you're not knowing.

Speaker 4 (04:19):
I think you're voice and some concerns. I think that's
on the mind of Louisville fans this morning. It was
it was obvious after the second, after halftime, really the
game Saturday, everybody kind of laughed, Yeah, back, we.

Speaker 1 (04:29):
All know what this is. It's a glorified exhibition, right,
I mean. And this is where I differ from some
because I do know that you've seen enough. As you
mentioned there the penalties and of course the pass rush
for Ja for bowling Green shouldn't have been as effective
as it was at times, and that's there's really no.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
Way to dispute that.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
But I also know that because these guys just aren't
going to be locked in like this is Notre Dame
at Home a couple of years ago, whenever Brom knocked
off a top ten team in his first season. It's
just you can do all the all the mental gymnastics
to product to try to get yourself in the frame
of mind of here we go. We got to leave
it all on the line. But that's really really hard
to do.

Speaker 3 (05:07):
Well.

Speaker 4 (05:07):
What's concerning to your point is that with the clip
we played from Eddie George going into the game, is
that they saw stuff in the James Madison game on
how to get to the quarterback. You said there's going
to be opportunities, and they executed those opportunities because they
did get to the quarterback. So I kind of talked
about this on the postgame show Saturday. It was kind
of like how you feel in Louisville fans? Is this

(05:27):
an ongoing problem or was this just a one off?
To your point, were you just not up for James
Madison just not up for Bowling Green?

Speaker 1 (05:34):
And here's the thing, like we don't want them to
not be up for any game, but like if they
aren't up for a certain team, you know, again, the
coach is supposed to be able to find ways to
motivate them and all that, but it's also understandable that
where you may without even realizing it, kind of lose
a little bit of your edge. I mean again, it's
that's why I always describe it as the human element.
But Pittsburgh's the opponent this week. You're going to be
at their place, and I don't know how good they are.

(05:56):
They lost to West Virginia, who now is off to
a terrible start with Rich Rodriguez because they beat pitt
but also have losses now to Ohio and the mac
and then also West Virginia lost forty one to ten
to Kansas over the weekend. So again, I don't know
how big of a test it's going to be, but
it's certainly the biggest test thus far. And hopefully they
can because look, it's an acc game. It matters, it'll
get it's your first chance at getting a league win,

(06:17):
and even if pit's not great, it'll still be worse
something more than what these last few games have been.

Speaker 3 (06:22):
So cards are in early ten and a half point
favorite two.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
Here we go.

Speaker 1 (06:24):
I like to hear that, yes, sir, and I'll stop
taking all of my frustrations out on okay waves.

Speaker 3 (06:30):
It's okay, but we've.

Speaker 1 (06:31):
Got Rory O'Neil coming up around eight thirty. We'll talk
about TikTok here to stay at least, it seems. Also
the big day yesterday in Arizona is Charlie Kirk's funeral
in the memorial service. Certainly a lot to react to
from that stable. That's right here our news radio eight
forty whs. It's a it's seventeen here at news radio
eight forty whas. Looks like we do have one accident.

(06:53):
That is at let's see it's as sixty four or
to sixty four trying to see exactly where it is,
but it's here we go.

Speaker 2 (07:03):
I'm sorry.

Speaker 1 (07:03):
I sixty five north it mile marker, which I'm not
sure if people really know what mile markers. I mean,
I know I don't pay too much attention to that.
But there is the left shoulder blocked as I guess
it's near. It's near where sixty four and uh and
sixty five meet northbounds, so uh and yeah from the
camera view there think think near your own sixty five

(07:25):
north or south? You know you had when you had
the Waterson. Essentially, I'm still learning the twos Two sixty
four is the Snyder right?

Speaker 3 (07:33):
Two sixty four is the waters in water? Five is this?

Speaker 2 (07:36):
There we go? That's my confusion.

Speaker 3 (07:37):
Took me a while.

Speaker 2 (07:38):
It's my confusion.

Speaker 1 (07:39):
Maybe one day I'll get it, Maybe not, because as
soon as I feel like I'm I know, then I
get it wrong.

Speaker 4 (07:44):
Well, then they tell you like east or west, but
yet if you drive them sometimes you're going north and south.

Speaker 2 (07:49):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (07:49):
That confused me.

Speaker 4 (07:50):
When I first moved here, I was like somebody, and
then finally I got it because I got into the
rhythm of it. But that people like, yeah, you go
east on two sixty five. I go, hold on, I'm
going up or down on what's called the Snyder.

Speaker 1 (08:02):
I wouldn't be able to get anywhere here in Louisville
and the Kentuckian area without using GPS. But there's a
lot of places I just know how to get where
I'm going to go, but I don't. I've never paid
attention a whole lot too, I mean interstates and road names,
unless of course it's it's anario that, like you know,
I live in and I'm infrequently. But yeah, with the
with the rain arribbing in the area, be safe and

(08:25):
probably expect some some delay because of that, because that's
just that, that's just what happens, all right. So with
with the a lot of than life becoming the event
that it is now where it's just growing substantially, two
hundred and forty thousand people as the is. I guess
what the expectation turned into once they got to the
event this week, and we'll see if they give us
a better number or as far as just knowing if

(08:45):
that you know, how accurate there their prediction actually was.
But something that probably is pretty common at big events
that brings this many people together is folks who travel
in to take advantage of big crowds by being criminals stealing.
So apparently the Bourbon and Beyond they dealt with it
last week where multiple people that were in attendance didn't

(09:08):
realize it, but their phone was stolen.

Speaker 2 (09:10):
Right out of their pockets.

Speaker 1 (09:11):
So pocket pickers they yeah, yeah, people who can pick pockets. Yeah,
it's tough to say that quick, but there was a
There was a woman who shared her story that her
iPhone was stolen while walking at the festival and she
didn't realize it until her Apple Watch alerted her that
her phone was no longer nearby. Within seconds, the phone
was powered down and the last location at ping from

(09:34):
was the parking lot. Later she ended up checking the
location I think a day later. It was in Miami already.
Oh no, it had been stolen. So she went to
the Verizon store to I guess, get a new phone
and explain her situation and look at whatever option she had.
That Verizon store told her that they were that she
was the fifteenth person that day to show up to

(09:55):
a Verizon store in the area because of a stolen
phone at the festival.

Speaker 3 (09:59):
So wow.

Speaker 1 (10:00):
The Horizon staff set professional pickpockets target those events like that,
which again that's not a surprise. If you're going to
do that, that's probably where you would have a lot
of success. You shouldn't do it, you're a criminal, but
it makes total sense. So there's already some claiming and
some of the groups that are on social media that
that are for these events that claim that they've had
their phones stolen as well. So just I mean, it's unfortunate.

(10:24):
Hopefully you've got you've got insurance or whatever it may be.
But when I hear that they're already in Miami, it's
probably some elaborate thing to where they turn it off,
they ship it away, And because I've.

Speaker 2 (10:35):
Seen some I've seen some criminals who do this.

Speaker 1 (10:39):
The footage of the body comes when they show up
and say, look, you can, you can do whatever you want.
We have we've gotta, we've gotta. We had subpoena. Pat
we used a subpoena and have a warrant. We know
that that phone is in this location handed over. Well,
if it's already gone within hours to be shipped somewhere
or whatever it is, I mean, yeah, I would imagine
these people probably steal a lot of phones and I'm
sure they make a lot of money doing it.

Speaker 4 (10:59):
Yeah, how do you feel too, You got your pictures
on it, You got a lot of personal stuff on.

Speaker 3 (11:03):
Your phone, dude.

Speaker 1 (11:04):
Yeah, I mean I would maybe take some satisfaction knowing
that they well, even if if a pass code, they'll
just they'll just reformat your phone right right. They may
not get to it, but a lot of people don't
have a pass code, so yeah, that would suck.

Speaker 2 (11:15):
I can't imagine me.

Speaker 1 (11:16):
Losing my phone would be the worst, but having it
happen like that would be even worse. So off, all right,
quick break, We've got traffic weather on the way, another
sports update coming up as well, and also at eight
thirty five, we're going to bring in Rory O'Neil of
NBC News, Coffee and Company with you

Speaker 2 (11:29):
