Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good morning, Kentucky, Anda, Welcome in. It is Coffee and
Company Kentucky and his morning news with you here on
news radio eight forty w h as. The full crew
is here today. We are back together, the foursome, myself,
Nick Coffee, Scott Fitzgerald, John Shannon, John Alden, and we
were up and running. Another rainy day expected today as
we we get into day two of the fall season.

(00:22):
Doesn't feel like fall, but it's nice to be able
to say that it is fall, and you know it's not.
It's not a lie, it's the truth. But yeah, rainy
day yesterday. Did you guys get a lot of rain
where you were. I'll tell you what. I ended up
looking outside throughout the afternoon yesterday and it was we
got some I got a downpour. I mean it was.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
It came down hard.

Speaker 1 (00:43):
Dude.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
I was out driving around. I couldn't see.

Speaker 1 (00:46):
Yeah, I'll tell you what. The festival, the a lot
of them Life Festival really lucked out because had yesterday
been one of the days, it would have been awful.
I mean, and they probably would have had to really,
I mean, I know they did have a brief delay
on Sunday with some rain that came in the morning,
but that was really about an hour, so they were overall,
Mother nature was good to us when it comes to

(01:06):
both Bourbon and beyond and louder than life. But yesterday,
I mean there was lightning throughout the evening at least
where I was, so uh yeah, and sometimes this is
just a saying, but I do think it's true. Like
we actually I think we needed some rain because again,
my neighborhood a lot of the grass getting maybe maybe
it's fall. Maybe that's why, because we're getting there, but
little little bit of a yellowish brownish tint to the

(01:28):
lawns of my neighborhood. And this rain can only help that,
right it is.

Speaker 3 (01:32):
It was nice and it sucks. And I've brag down
this show before. Behind don't have ac man, you're rolling
around that rain that window still, Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
It was like riding around a greenhouse.

Speaker 3 (01:41):
But I'm not complaining, just soupy, nasty d use air conditioning.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
It's out, dude, it's out.

Speaker 4 (01:50):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
I'm not dealing with the money. I'm not paying to
get it fixed.

Speaker 3 (01:52):
And so it's a good thing I had good deodoran
on because I mean it was just but it was
to your point, though, it was nice to get that rain.
We're gonna have it this week. It's a welcome edition.
And I did read something. I think we're falling into
a lot Ninian pattern, which basically means it's going to
be drier than most as opposed to El Nino.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
So we'll see what happens.

Speaker 3 (02:09):
As far as wondering, but it's been the lack of
hurricane activity that's.

Speaker 1 (02:13):
Really which is a good thing if you're if you're
in an area where you just have to have that
fear throughout that that time of year. But you know what,
you you made it right, Like we've got some warm
days still ahead, but you have had You don't have
a C in your vehicle. And I remember when you
told us that in the heat of the summer. I
was like, oh my god, this this, this can't be real.
How could you?

Speaker 2 (02:33):
How do you do it?

Speaker 1 (02:35):
But here we are, I mean falls here, and you
made it. You survived for this summer with no a
C in your vehicle. And that is I mean, I
would feel a level of accomplishment if I was Scott.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
It is there's something to that.

Speaker 3 (02:45):
It's like when you get really hungry and you're trying
not to overeat or anything. So there's almost that sick feeling,
like a good sick feeling when you're like hungry ill.

Speaker 1 (02:54):
It's almost like whenever the gas lights on and you
you know, you you're just going to see how long
can you ride it out without doing something, you know,
without actually having to go put some some gas in
the tanks. So, yeah, the the humidity certainly here yesterday,
probably gonna be here again today as we're still warm.
Gonna have some rain and some fog this morning, so
so be careful. But the big news is that ABC

(03:17):
has decided to let Jimmy Kimmel return uh tonight. He
will be back after being suspended, but he won't be everywhere.
So the U this the ABC Disney, of course under
the same umbrella. Disney owns ABC. The CEO, Bob Iger
uh did say they're gonna they're gonna bring him back. However,
Sinclair they are still going to be preempting Jimmy Kimmel

(03:40):
and Sinclair Broadcasting Group they uh they're still not satisfied
with with I guess Jimmy Kimmel sounds like they want
an apology for Charlie Kirk's family. But Sinclair Broadcasting is
the nation's largest ABC affiliate group, so sounds like the
majority of ABC stations across the country. We'll still not

(04:01):
have Jimmy Kimmel's late night show until they meet strict conditions,
meaning Disney and Kimmel. So we'll talk about that throughout
the morning. Here this is this is I guess a
step in the right direction for Kimmel, meaning well, I
don't know if it's a step in the right direction
for him. But you know, for those who thought we'd
never see him again, ABC his direct boss, they clearly

(04:24):
are ready to move forward. But doesn't sound like Sinclair
two things, and again, tough to know how true anything
you read on this actually is, but it doesn't sound
like Sinclair is really close to I mean, what they
want has certainly not happened, and I don't see a
scenario where they budge. And I also don't really see

(04:45):
a scenario where there's this this just overwhelming, you know,
outrage to bring Kimmel back. And I mean, I'll stand
by what I said last week. There's a lot of
factors here. One of them for ABC, Disney, Sinclair's that
this show is not successful. Now take all politics out
of it. Believe it or not. Some people can't do that,

(05:06):
but I know a lot can't. This show is not
succeeding in any metric, and that is also a factor.
So nonetheless, what I'm getting at is Jimmy Kimmel, I mean,
there's there's there's belief that not only was he I
mean not only did he say what he said about
Charlie Kirk and basically just told is what is a
lie about the shooter's political affiliation and whatnot, but he

(05:28):
had planned to double down and that's why they yanked
him and didn't and pulled him. So what I'm getting
at is, I don't think the two sides here are
anywhere close to it working out, but we shall see.
But yes, big news was that he was going to
be brought back by ABC. But then quickly I think
everybody realized that doesn't mean he's totally going to be back,
because again, the majority of those ABC stations out there

(05:50):
are owned by a company that doesn't seem like they're
willing and ready to do anything to bring him back.
But the story, man, it's it's it's This story has
been has been out there for a week, and I
don't really think it's going anywhere, no, sir, good stuff.
All right, let's get this Tuesday started, shall we. We've
got trafficking weather updates on the way right here on
his Radio eight forty whas it is five eighteen Here

(06:13):
at news Radio eight forty whas. Don't forget. You could
take us with you wherever you go. Listen live on
the iHeartRadio app. Also listened live at whas dot Comedy
is Kentucky. In this morning news. A crash last night, well,
in an accident last night, a man killed after being
hit while crossing I two sixty four. This this took
place last night. This was around I believe ten thirty

(06:35):
between Bell's Lane and Dumb Snow Streets. So, for an
unknown reason, there was somebody walking in in the middle
of the interstate and was hit by a vehicle and
that driver did stop immediately, called nine one one and
arrived on the scene. But the victim was pronounced dead.
So that did shut down the interstate in the rain

(06:57):
for quite some time, which I'm sure was a was
a real big mess. Currently, and by the way, we'll
get you another update on traffic coming up in just
a minute or so. But right now, it looks like
the big issue currently. I shouldn't say that it's not
a big issue, but there is a disabled vehicle that
is on I sixty five South that is looks like
it's near it's near the near Fairdale. There a south

(07:19):
Park road between between the Yeah, there we go. It's
right right between sixty five and and Snyder there, so
be advice. Doesn't look like there's really any issues at
this point, but obviously that could change once we get
more vehicles out out on the road. But again, Bobby Ellis,
we'll get you squared away with traffic. We'll also have
an update to look at the forecast with Matt Melosovich

(07:39):
coming up here in just a moment. But I know
we'll talk some sports this morning. That's what we do.
Scott'll be in in about five minutes or so to
do that. But how about last night's Monday night football game.
I'm a little worried about the Ravens. They looked really,
really good for about ninety five percent of the game
against the Bills, and it felt like, oh, what are
we gonna do? It's the NFL gonna do. These are

(08:01):
the two best teams. I mean, go ahead, and set
up the Super Bowl match. And now the Ravens are
a one and two football team, and I don't feel
like they looked very good in their win against who
was the Browns in Week two, and then last night
they just looked they just didn't look impressive at all.
I mean, Lamar, I'll say it. I know Louisville fans
and I'm one of them, are afraid to say it

(08:22):
at times. Lamar is a phenomenal, phenomenal football player, and
he's one of the best in the league, no doubt
two MVPs, but last night was not as night. I
got lucky with a couple of interceptions that you were
you thought to yourself, Okay, that's why that guy's playing defense.
And of course, just not a solid night overall. Derrick
Henry having fumble problems, which seems to be very very

(08:43):
rare for him, but it's certainly been a problem this season.
That's what shifted the game in Buffalo in Week one,
and then defensively, I don't know if Detroit just had
a great night, but they, I mean, they didn't even
need a great game from Jared Goff to to be
able to win. And you know, it's one game. But

(09:03):
since looking as if they were unstoppable for the first
you know, ninety five percent of that opener, I've been
pretty unimpressed with the Ravens, and what I hope is
that they didn't miss their window. Right. They've had some
really good seasons in the last what five or six
where they've looked like legitimate Super Bowl contenders, only to
not be able to make that real deep push to

(09:24):
the to the postseason. Now again, if you're losing to
the Chiefs and then you somehow end up losing to
you know, the Bills, you know you're not losing to bums. Now.
The loss of the Titans is one that will always sting,
I think because that team was was really really good.
But yeah, last night's performance someone, I mean, it was
actually a pretty good game, but not if you're somebody
pulling for the Ravens. So hopefully they can get it together.

(09:45):
But just from a visual standpoint, I've not been real
impressed with how the Ravens looked. All right, Let's get
to a quick update of traffic and weather. Again. We've
got some fog out there this morning, so be careful
and stay safe. It is consecutives morning news coffee with
you here on news Radio eight forty whas. Thank you

(10:05):
very much, mister Shannon. It is up five point thirty
five here at news Radio eight forty whas. So a
lot of in life moving to the first event of
these two humongous music festivals that bring so many people
to this fond city, and one person that was there
probably involved in any mashpit he could find, probably just

(10:25):
raging as much as anyone in attendance as the company man,
John Alden, how many did you make it out? One day?
Two days? I went Friday and Sunday. Nice. So Friday,
what was going on Friday that made it the day?
It was sleep Token. Believe it or not.

Speaker 5 (10:41):
They weren't even the main headliner of the day. They
were the band that went on right before events seven
off the Juice, though clearly they've that group. I mean,
I mean, are you ashamed of me that I don't
know who that is? No, Well, so it's weird like
they have a very large cult like following early there
were people there. It could have been there could have
been no other band on the lineup. There would have
been thousands of people sitting waiting to see Sleep Token.

Speaker 1 (11:03):
Okay, because I could never I couldn't figure out what
made Friday such the day. But as we discussed before
you got out of here for a couple of days off,
that you couldn't get a ticket to get in on
Friday by midweek last week. And I mean, this is
gonna sound crazy because really there's no way to prove it,
and just it's it's. I know, some people like myself
don't even know who sleep Token is, but I felt

(11:25):
like Friday, just when you hear people talking about Haiti,
you know, anybody, how can I get a ticket? You
see people posting stuff on social media. I swear to
you it seemed like that was like the toughest ticket
to get in Louisville ever. Yeah, it was pretty strange.

Speaker 5 (11:37):
And whenever I got there early, I was there all day,
both Friday and Sunday. I've never seen so many T
shirts for one particular band at this festival. It was
one of those things before you even got to even
the midway point of the day, you knew who the
vast majority of the people there were in attendance to see,
and I was interested to see what they'd be like.
They put on a decent performance and it was one

(12:00):
of those things where it was just very it was different.
I'd never seen something like that out Louder than Life.

Speaker 1 (12:05):
Are you a fan of them?

Speaker 5 (12:06):
I like their songs, but you're not in the cult.
I'm not in the Sleeptoken cult, but I do.

Speaker 1 (12:11):
I did.

Speaker 5 (12:11):
I didn't enjoy the performance, and I like a few
of their songs. So overall, though, good experience, very good,
very hot. On Friday. I was so exhausted by the
end of Friday. I was like, how am I going
to do a second day of this? But here's the thing.
I got to Sunday. The heat was so ridiculous on Friday.
I realized that was why I was so exhausting. Of course,
I felt so much better throughout the entire day on

(12:31):
Sunday as opposed to Friday.

Speaker 1 (12:33):
Yeah, it was there an act that was your favorite.

Speaker 5 (12:36):
Oh I love Avenge Sevenfold, that's why. So I was
there to see a seven X on Friday. Got to
see sleep Token on the other stage while I was
waiting for Avenge Sevenfold, and they put on a hell
of a performance. That was the second time in three
years I'd seen them, and I thought they were even
better this time around. So I had a great time.

Speaker 1 (12:51):
I can't name any of their songs, but I'm sure
if I heard one or two I would know it
because they were They're real big, with a lot of
a lot of folks my age, not just my age,
of course, but yeah, they're pretty popular. And to see
the move the festival going to be moved up a week,
is that? I mean?

Speaker 5 (13:05):
I don't, I was, I was. I had a couple
thoughts in my head on as to why they could
be doing that. I think maybe this is kind of
a stretch, but I think maybe Louder than Life is
a lot harder to clean up, and I think by
the time you get to the end of two weekends there,
you know, it's a lot more difficult to deal with
all of the cleanup for Louder than Life after you've
done it for eight days. Maybe that's nothing to do

(13:27):
with it. I think another reason could be with scheduling
of certain artists, and they want to bring certain people in,
so maybe they have to shift some some things around
to bring in certain acts they want to bring in. Uh,
maybe that's totally wrong too, But I think those were
a couple of potential reasons as to why they might be.

Speaker 1 (13:41):
Doing that as the official music festival correspondent for News
Radio eight forty whas I'll ask you this, is it
common to right as soon as an event ends, go
ahead and let folks know the headliner for the following year,
because it seems like there's a lot of excitement for that.

Speaker 5 (13:53):
Yeah, with my Chemical Romance, that they announced that in
the middle of the day on Friday, it was very strange.
They've never done that before. They had I remember at
the end of one of the I think it was
the end of the twenty twenty one whatever year was,
they announced Metallica immediately for two nights. This was I
think the only other year where they've announced a headliner
for the following year that soon, But they normally do

(14:13):
announce the dates that are that early.

Speaker 1 (14:16):
Excuse me. So it looks like the combined festivals drew
more than three hundred and fifty thousand fans from across
not only this country, but the world, and I just
it seems as if the last few years these things
just become more and more popular. And you know, keep
in mind last year they had a real issue with
weather for this specific festival. That was it one or

(14:39):
two days that were pretty much just a wash.

Speaker 5 (14:41):
All of Friday was canceled and there were I mean
the day that I went on Saturday, it rained the
entire time, so they had it, but it was raining
for twelve hours.

Speaker 1 (14:49):
The people who love this love this. If that makes sense.
That sounds like a really you know, obvious thing to say.
But what really makes this event different than Bourbon Not
to say that it's better, but there's just if you
are somebody that likes this kind of music festival, there's
not as many to choose from, and this one is
the super Bowl for it, and that's what brings so
many people from across the world so glad to glad

(15:12):
to see that you had a good time. And I
tell you what some of the pictures from specifically Louder
than Life. I mean, it's a sea of people like
I've really never seen here in Louisville.

Speaker 5 (15:23):
If you're claustrophobic, you wouldn't enjoy being in one of
those crowds.

Speaker 1 (15:26):
Yeah, I mean, I can't imagine seeing it firsthand from
the ferris wheel. Just looking at that massive crowd of people,
it would give me a panic attack because I am
somewhat claustrophobic. But people there are clearly not bothered by
because there were many and they all looked like they
were having a great time. So good stuff. Happy that
you enjoyed yourself. You needed that. My man, I did
a couple of days to just you know, rock out.

(15:48):
Good stuff. All right, quick break, We've got trapping weather
updates on the way. Rory on Neil of NBC News
set to join us right here on News Radio eight
forty whas coffee and company with you here at Kentucky
Morning News News Radio eight forty whas, Let's bring it in.
He's Rory O'Neal of NBC News. Rory. Jimmy Kimmel is
set to return tonight to ABC. But many of those

(16:10):
ABC stations are licensed by a company called Sinclair Broadcasting,
and it doesn't sound like they are quite ready yet
to bring Kimmel back to the stations they have the
rights to broadcast.

Speaker 4 (16:22):
Right so these are the company Sinclair Next Star Tegna.
They actually own the local TV stations that broadcast these shows.
So even if you have something like YouTube TV, you
still have to go through that local station ownership group,
so you might not be able to see it on
your TV tonight. Unless, of course, you have the Disney
Plus app and I'm sure there's some sort of a

(16:44):
workaround out there, but yeah, this essentially is Disney coming
back to say, look, we've had a review. They spent
the last few days, they say, having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy,
and after those conversations, they said they reached the decision
to return the show tonight.

Speaker 1 (17:00):
So Sydneyclair Broadcast Group, they are the largest ABC affiliate group,
and if you look at the messaging from from from
their their brass, it is that they want a formal
apology in some in some form, I guess, some type
of acknowledgment of wrongdoing and heartfeld apology to Charlie Kirk's family.
I mean, any clue if we actually get that, because

(17:22):
it seems like just from what we know right now,
Jimmy Kimmel, it sounds like he might have been wanting
to even go further than he actually did. They they
want him to apologize for what was said on the
air before he was taken off the air. It doesn't
seem as if the two sides here are really anywhere close.

Speaker 4 (17:37):
Well, right, and keep in mind Sinclair very conservative group.
They are big GOP donors and supporters, so they definitely
come at this from a political position. So hey, so
does Jimmy Kimmel, right, and I think that I think
Saint Clair also asked that kim will give a donation
to Turning Point USA in addition to that apology. Well,

(17:57):
let's see what kim Ol has to say tonight. I
remember the line that got him into so much trouble
was really about MAGA, right. It was trying to say
that the man who was the man who shot and
killed Charlie Kirk was a member of MAGA, and that
MAGA was trying to distance itself from the gunman. So
it wasn't really a criticism of Charlie Kirk. Actually, it

(18:19):
was actually a criticism of the MAGA movement. So I'm
interested to see to whom mister Kimmel may apologize this.

Speaker 1 (18:27):
Is it crazy to say that Jimmy Kimmel here could
become maybe. I mean, there's gonna be a lot of
people watching him, maybe more so than having a long
long time because of this story.

Speaker 4 (18:36):
Overall, you and I are going to be talking about
this tomorrow, that's right, that's for sure.

Speaker 1 (18:42):
I mean, I'm anticipating to hear what Jimmy Kimmel has
to say on television for the first time ever. I mean,
so he's got that cot for him.

Speaker 4 (18:50):
Yeah, yeah, other than yeah, all right, I'm a faithful
who wants to be a millionaire guy.

Speaker 1 (18:54):
But yeah, that's about the only time lately.

Speaker 4 (18:57):
Yeah, just because at the time of day.

Speaker 1 (18:59):
Well, I say that because I just think that one
of the many components to this entire situation that I
just don't think is getting talked about quite enough is
that you said it last week, these shows bleed money
in viewership, and I just refuse to believe that that
wasn't at least somewhat of a factor in taking him
off the air and then maybe having him not only
reset as far as hey, look, you should be mindful

(19:21):
of your employer and sort of how you use the platform,
and also, you know, let's go and look at these
numbers while we're at it and just let you know, hey,
we got to make this work, right.

Speaker 4 (19:29):
And is Disney looking for an excuse to follow CBS's
lead here? Remember CBS is getting rid of the whole
format right when Stephen Colbert ends in the spring, and
then it's going to be you know what does ABC
do next when Kimmel's contract is up? I think it's
in January. So yeah, there are all the networks of
looking at these shows because young people like you all

(19:52):
consume this stuff differently. Right, You watch it on your phones,
you watch it on demand. You don't necessarily tune in
that eleven thirty five. Well you and I are you know,
we're not at that, right, So it's a you know,
people are just consuming all of this very differently. So yes, look,
they're plenty on the right who say it's their leftist politics.
They're finally getting their come uppings. But there's also a

(20:15):
big part of this is just the business model is
out the window.

Speaker 1 (20:18):
So there's the man that is on trial for the
attempted assassination of President Trump. He's defending himself in Florida.
He called his first witness Monday. What's the latest on
this trial. I know this will be this will be
followed quite a bit given the fact that the story itself,
But also anytime you've got somebody who is not qualified
but chooses to represent themselves, you really never know what
you're going to get.

Speaker 4 (20:39):
Right, And this is all coming to a rapid conclusion.
So Ryan Ruth. The man who's charged in this would
be assassination. This was the attack on the golf course
in Florida. Yeah, this case is going to the jury today,
so he wrapped. He brought three witnesses. Look for closing
arguments today, jury deliberations this afternoon. It's a very real
possibility we haven't verdict this afternoon, considering the quality of

(21:02):
the defense that was put on by a man representing himself.

Speaker 1 (21:06):
Well said, Rory's always appreciate your time. Enjoy the rest
of your day. We'll talk soon. Thanks Nick, It's Rory
and Need of NBC News. You can always appreciate his time.
Quick time out. We've got traffick and weather updates on
the way. Scott's back with some sports updates right here
