Speaker 1 (00:00):
Seven oh four here at News Radio eight forty whas
Happy hump Day. We've got a wet Wednesday to get
things started, and I believe rain here and there could
happen really within the next twenty four hours, so be advised,
and also be advised that this wet start has led
to some accidents. So I know there's a situation Fern
Valley Road north on sixty five. There's some delays there

(00:23):
also at seventy one south of the waters, and some
delays there as well because of some accidents. So be
advised that we do have some hiccups already, but hopefully
they can get things cleared up and hopefully you don't
sit in traffic too long. But we'll keep you updated
as best we can throughout the morning. Your next update
coming up in about five minutes or so. And right
now as we are two hours into our show, no surprise,

(00:46):
Jimmy Kimmel's return last night to ABC has been one
of the more talked about things this morning and probably
will be across the country today because there is a
positive for ABC and Jimmy Kimmel. The situation itself has
brought more interest in watching him than he's had in
a long time, and that sounds like an insult. I

(01:08):
don't mean it that way. It's just the truth, and
that's really an obvious thing when it comes to any
controversial situation. And clearly, since ABC decided to pull him
last week, there were many that felt that that was
worth celebrating, and there were many that felt that was
a violation of him in his free speech. So last night,

(01:29):
a lot of people didn't see it because there are
still two big carriers of ABC that decided not to
bring him back just yet. That's Next Star and Sinclair Broadcasting.
But there's still many other ABC stations that aired it
last night, And I did not stay up to watch
it because I've never thought to watch any of those
kind of shows before. It's just not part of my

(01:52):
routine when it comes to nighttime television. Also, I don't
stay up that late anymore. But here here is a
little bit of what he had to say last night
as he gave an emotional monologue discussing what he wanted
to clarify, which I guess that it was not his
intent to make light of the murder of a young
man and fighting back some tears here which I don't

(02:17):
have any clue. Only he knows if those were ginuine
or not, if that was a real emotional thing. And
everybody's different. I just know for me, the fighting back
but not actually getting there. I'm always going to assume
that there's a little bit of acting going on. But
maybe that's unfair of me, because again, everyone is different.
But to me, there's no like if I'm gonna be
emotional like it's gonna happen, there's I'm not gonna have

(02:39):
the ability to truly control it. But anyhow, only he
knows how genuine he actually was. And clearly there are
people who already had their mind made up about him
before he said a word, meaning it didn't really matter
what he had to say. But here's a little bit
of it. If you if you missed it last night,
well it would be great if it worked, wouldn't it.

(03:01):
That'd be great. I don't know why it's not playing.
See sound is working is crucial when you try to
actually utilize it. I don't know what's what's happened here,
but it's not working, so fail in mind, we can
pull it up. There's more. I mean, there's clips all
over the place, but it doesn't matter what clip I

(03:23):
find if none of them are working, I don't really
know how to how to fix that. So it's great
live radio here, right.

Speaker 2 (03:31):
And it's strange, I mean, played earlier.

Speaker 1 (03:34):
Want to just do an impression, John, do your best
Jimmy Jimmy and tap dance for me? Do your best
in Jimmy Jimmy Kimmel impression for me.

Speaker 3 (03:42):
Jimmy.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
Is he in New York or is he Los Angeles?

Speaker 1 (03:44):
Guy? I think l A.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
I think I do an l A accent. I can't
fake cry. Maybe YEH.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
Shouldn't because I feel I don't.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
Because I mean, I'll say this, I haven't really shared
much of my thoughts on this. We have played some
of the clips that you're looking for right now. But
and maybe this is just the naive part of me,
because I am naive on a lot of things. But
to me, the clips of him showing emotion, it does
to me seem more on the real side. But again,

(04:17):
I'm not somebody who would probably be the best judge
of whether or not the tears that he was trying
not to shed were real or not. But I don't know. Again,
it's it's It's also one of the things, right, it's
very hard to not You don't want to assume that
someone's crying for, you know, to fake it, even though
that is something that people have a talent to do well.

Speaker 1 (04:37):
I think people could feel like they expect the emotion
to be there, so they you know, maybe it's maybe
it's faking without even really knowing you're faking it.

Speaker 2 (04:45):
If that makes sense, Yeah, I only I get that.
But I also to me, maybe I just don't get it. It
doesn't make sense. I don't give why How did someone fake.

Speaker 1 (04:54):
Feel like you're supposed to be crying so then you're
just your just happen, you're your psyche just makes it
because I mean, because the only way to know if
somebody's genuinely crying is are do you see real tears?
But he never he never got there right like, he
didn't He didn't come on glued. He just he thought
it and he won because he was able to power
through without having any real issue saying what he wanted
to say. And look, I don't think that put it

(05:17):
this way regardless if he was genuine or not. I don't.
One thing I don't have is like any sympathy for him,
Like I don't feel like he was. Yeah, and like anybody,
you say what you say, you got to know that, uh,
the the way in which people are going to perceive
what you say. Good luck, I mean, and again sometimes

(05:38):
you truly are just a victim of how people want
to people want to hear what they want to hear.
I don't really think this was the case at all,
I mean, bringing you know, bringing up I mean, in fact,
I'll just give you since since we have no sound
on live radio, which is just a challenge for us here,
it's clearly I mean to to to phrase maga gang
and then tell what is a lie about what happened.

(05:58):
I don't care what your intent was. That was distasteful
in any way. And that's my big takeaway as we
are now a couple of weeks removed from this whole thing,
is that there's a there's a clear issue here as
far as just some and a lot actually having the
inability to remove politics from anything, even the heinous assassination
of a of a young man. I mean, that's that's

(06:21):
as we were, as we've removed ourselves from it a
little bit, and I don't mean removed it from being
a talking point, but I mean it's been a couple
of weeks since it happened. That that's what stands out
to be more than anything. All right, quick break, we'll
come back and hopefully I didn't break something in here.
I'm not sure what's going on. We'll get a update
on traffic and weather right here, right now on New's
Radio eight forty whas. If you've ever needed to reach

(06:42):
out to tech support in any way on anything, and
you hear, have you tried powering up powering down? It
can be almost defensive at times because that's a no
brainer as far as things to try before you realize
you can't fix it, I would think, But that's what
worked for us. So we tried to play if you're
just going to want to as we tried to play
some of the clips from last night's Jimmy Kimmel returned

(07:04):
and in my defense, it worked earlier, so I had
no reason to assume that it wouldn't have worked now.
Usually I would test it beforehand, but for some reason
it stopped working. And all it took for me was
simply a version of powering up powering down. How we
play sounds So for those who haven't heard it, and
I'm sure many of you haven't. Maybe you didn't stay
up late, maybe it just don't you know, you know,

(07:25):
watch and didn't have any interest in watching in live
or at any point. Here is a little bit of
what he had to say, including his thoughts or his
comments on I guess, clarifying that it was never his
intention to make light of what happened to Charlie Kirk.

Speaker 3 (07:43):
I don't think what I have to say is going
to make much of a difference. If you like me,
like me, If you don't, you don't.

Speaker 2 (07:47):
I have no.

Speaker 3 (07:47):
Illusions about changing anyone's mind. But I do want to
make something clear because it's important to me as a human,
and that is you understand that it was never my
intention to make light of the murder of a young man.
I don't think there's only thing funny about it. I

(08:08):
posted a message on Instagram on the daves killed, sending
love to his family and asking for compassion, and I
meant it. I still do. Nor was it my intention
to blame any specific group for the actions of what
it was obviously a deeply disturbed individual. That was really
the opposite of the point I was trying to make.
But I understand that to some that felt either ill

(08:29):
timed or unclear, or maybe both. And for those who
think I did point a finger, I get why you're upset.
If the situation was reversed, there was a good chance
I'd have felt the same way. I have many friends
and family members on the other side who I love
and remain close to, even though we don't agree on
politics at all. I don't think the murderer who shot

(08:50):
Charlie Kirk represents anyone. This was a sick person who
believed violence was a solution, and it isn't it.

Speaker 1 (08:58):
Ever, here's my question, after hearing that for the second time,
do you know how much different everything would be for
Kimmel if he said everything he take take away just
the comments at the end there, and he's not discussing
what he said or what his intent was. He just
said what you heard at the very end there. Why

(09:20):
couldn't you have done that initially? To do it now?
Clearly people are going to question if there's any legitimacy
to it, because there wasn't any real apology there. But
I don't know. I mean, I think what he said
at the end was very well said, no issue, but
it's being said after you were taken off the air,

(09:41):
and we'll probably never know the actual truth about a
lot of things, but it sounds like the reason that
ABC decided to pull him was not just because of
what he said, but he had plans on doubling down.
I mean, I've not heard anybody fully dispute that and
say that it's not true. Again, will probably never know

(10:01):
exactly what played out, But here's more from last night.
This is him in his monologue, thanking the people who
supported him, and also had some thoughts for those that
didn't support him.

Speaker 3 (10:16):
The President of the United States made it very clear
he wants to see me and the hundreds of people
who work here fired from our jobs. Our leader celebrates
Americans losing their livelihoods because he can't take a joke.
He was somehow able to squeeze Colbert out of CBS.

(10:38):
Danny turned his sights on me, and now he's openly
rooting for NBC to fire Jimmy Fallon and Seth Myers
and the hundreds of Americans who work for their shows
who don't make millions of dollars. And I hope that
if that happens, or if there's even any hint of
that happening, you will be ten times as loud as
you were this week. We have to speak out, I guess.

Speaker 1 (11:02):
All right, So, I mean, I don't think that President
Trump is very good at taking a joke. But was
that also like an admission that you were making a
joke about what, I mean, what happened with last week
or two weeks ago with Charlie Kirk. It's kind of
what Again, I'm not looking to end up anywhere as
far as trying to find validation in any certain viewpoint

(11:24):
or belief about Jimmy Kimmel, but those that are even
a little bit I think it's hard to really see
if there's any genuineness there. But again, only Jimmy Kimmel
truly knows how, since here he was in that entire situation.
All Right. We're just a few days away, folks from
a big event that I'm really really excited about, and
that is the Pints for Paus and People event at

(11:45):
the Jefferson Animal Hospital and partnership with the American Red Cross.
So this is a this is the second year they're
doing it, and they're gonna let you come out and
donate blood with the American Red Cross. But you can
bring your dogs or cats if they qualify to be
blood donors themselves, and each pet donation can say up
to four to six lives. You can enjoy food that
they'll have on hand. Talk to the experts about about

(12:05):
pet blood donations with the Jefferson Animal Hospital. They're well
aware that this is probably not something a lot of
people are familiar with. They want to know exactly what
takes place, how it works when it comes to their
dog or cat giving blood. So they'll get you squared away,
let you know what you need to know, put you
at ease, and let you know just how much it
is needed for pets to donate blood to again save
up to four to six lives every time it happens.

(12:26):
It's this Saturday, September twenty seven at the Jefferson Animal
Hospital on outer Loop. You can get more information at
Pet Bloodbank dot com or give them a call at
the Jeffersonnimal Hospital. Bibo two nine hundred pets. We've got
a quick update of traving the weather on the way.
Also a sports update coming with Scott right here on
News Radio eight forty whas. Thank you very much, John
Shannon seven thirty four here at News Radio eight forty

(12:49):
whas Happy hump Day to you. We are off to
a wet start and it looks as if we're going
to have some potential rain here and there throughout the
next twenty four hours. And when you have rain on
the roadways and everybody getting up and getting out starting
their day, that sometimes is a recipe for accidents traffic,
and that has certainly been the case this morning. Currently,

(13:12):
we still have some issues at the I seventy one
north ramp from it looks like the Gene Snyder and
it looks like there is all lanes in the right
shoulder is blocked for an accident that took place just
moments ago, so that is a fresh accident that could
be causing some issues. And then also we've got on
the waters near Bell's Lane, there is an accident that's

(13:36):
left the left shoulder and the left lane block. So
be advised. We've got some accidents causing some delays. So
if you've got the ability to make alternative to take
alternative routes, then good for you. If not, I guess,
just try to leave earlier, do whatever you got to do.
But yeah, traffic is never fun for anybody, So we'll
try to keep you updated as best we can. Your
next update is coming in about four minutes. All right,

(13:58):
So yesterday we found out that Google had admitted that
they censored political speech under pressure from the Biden administration,
particularly around COVID nineteen and election topics. So Google is
now saying they're going to restore thousands of banned YouTube accounts,

(14:19):
and this is clearly a big deal. This is clearly
going to be a big story. Some are not so surprised.
I'm sure some are happy to know they can now
get back their YouTube account and maybe make a living
doing that. That's a rarity. But if you were taking

(14:40):
off YouTube, which means you can't monetize your content, I mean,
that could be life altering for people who that's how
they I mean I used to run a website and
that was a big part of how I made a living,
and the biggest resource for the biggest source for revenue
was Google ads in. I was always at their mercy

(15:01):
if I didn't follow guidelines or I just you know,
any room or reason. They just just said, yeah, we know,
we're not going to let you monetize anymore for whatever.
Like there's really nobody to pick that I can't pick
up the phone and call anybody. So again, it wasn't
like I was making a whole lot of money doing it.
But you always know that you're just you got to
follow whatever guidelines they have, and in any moment they
could change it. You got to be able to adapt.

(15:22):
It's kind of a nervous It can be very a
very nervous situation, just knowing that at any moment, regardless
of you having any control, you could just basically lose
a job. That's that's the best way to describe it.
But to lose a job because you just have a
difference of opinion, I mean, that would that would tick
me off, and I'm sure many people have been for
quite some time, not even those that are impacted by

(15:44):
it as far as their way to make a living,
but those that just can see that that clearly having
a difference of opinion is going to lead to you
being silenced by Google, who owns YouTube. And I'm assuming
a lot of people know that, but maybe you didn't.
So Google admitting this is essentially they're admitting that that
that the creators that use their platform YouTube were not
allowed to share their opinions because there was pressure from

(16:09):
the Biden administration towards Google that they clearly they followed,
they did what they were they were supposed to do,
and there's a lot of hypocrisy. I mean, I'm sure
this isn't new, but all related to sports because that's
that's my background in the rivalry here in with Lousville

(16:30):
and Kentucky. It's I mean, it's it's a big factor
in me being able to even be sitting here where
I am today. And I was able to do sports
talk in this town for ten years and the majority
of the time we talked about the two teams, the
rivalry because that's what people care about and it's it's
it's part of our culture and it's really not that serious,
but it is if you know what I mean, right,

(16:50):
that may not make sense, but if you know, you know,
it is serious, but it's not it's a big deal,
but it shouldn't be, but it is, and it's just
how we are. I wouldn't have it any other way,
especially in Louisville because in this city there are so
many on both sides. And the comparison I'm making is
that I got to see it all the time, and
even when you call it out like it doesn't change anything.

(17:12):
If it's your team that you support and there's some
type of controversy, you'll find ways to justify it and
accept it because it's your team. If it's the other
side of the rival of the enemy, you'll you'll go
overboard about rubbing it in their face or calling them
out because it's just you know, that's that's how, that's
what works. And clearly it's hypocrisy, but it's it's about

(17:34):
something that really isn't that important. And one of the
reasons I was able to be such a passionate UFL
fan but not really get too deep into the weeds
to where I ever got nasty with UK fans it
is because I accepted long ago I'm never going to
change your mind. We can have a conversation, we can
have a different opinion, but I'm never going to change your
mind and make you say, oh, yeah, you know what,

(17:54):
I don't like them anymore. I'm gona be a level fan,
and I wouldn't want that anyway. That would feel wrong.
I would say you're a fraud. So hypocrisy exists in
every aspect of life to an extent. But with this
the selective outrage about free speech, which even sometimes it's
not even legitimately about free speech, is so glaring, right.
I mean, how many celebrities did you see? Some really

(18:17):
just heavy handed because they are deeply anti Trump, that
were up in arms about Jimmy Kimmel, Even some that
aren't really that visible within you know, politics, but they
they'd share something, probably because they were urged to share it.
This is scary to see what they're doing to Jimmy Kimmel.
I mean, those same people, I don't see any of

(18:39):
them right now acknowledging that Google silenced people who had
a difference of opinion on politics from their platform. And
you know, those same people that were, you know, thoughts
and prayers to Jimmy Kimmel, they were celebrating taking victory
laps when Donald Trump was pulled off Twitter. They were,
I mean, they're still celebrating a Rosean bar getting acts

(19:01):
by the network. I mean, it's just so blatantly in
your face as far as just the hypocrisy. And I
think the more we realized that it might ease tensions
a little bit, I don't know, because one thing Jimmy
Kimmel did say last night that I it won't be
It won't be received, It will be ignored by a
lot of people that I totally understand why. But if

(19:21):
more of us on every aspect said this and realized it,
I think it could only help. Is that had somebody
done the same thing, the roles were reversed, right, meaning
had it been a Democrat that was assassinated and somebody
of the other side did the exact same thing Kimmel did,
he said he would have the same reaction. He would understand,
like if we just lived in reality and acknowledge that

(19:42):
there's a lot of hypocrisy going on. I just think
it could it could ease the tensions just a little bit.
But what do I know? What do I know? All right,
quick work update. We do have traving weather updates on
the way. That's what I do know. So stick around
right here. It's News Radio eight forty Whas. If you've
listened to me just little bit since I stepped in
here to take over for Tony Cruz a few months ago,

(20:04):
you probably have picked up on the fact that I'm
a proud Bullet County resident, born and raised. It's where
I live now, It's where I raised my family, and
there's a situation going on in Bullet County that has
a lot of people talking, which is the redistricting going
on within the Bullet County Public school system. And anytime
these things happen, it can be contentious because you've got

(20:28):
I mean, this is a big deal. Schools are important.
That goes without saying. But it's not just because of learning.
I mean you've got community hubs, school teams. I mean,
where you go to school has a big factor in
a lot of things for parents and kids. Of course,
also property values, right, I mean that matters, right, what

(20:51):
school district you're in can absolutely matter when it comes
to property value. So I get it. And this is
the first time it's happened in Bullet County in twenty years.
And of these seven hundred students that are going to
be directly affected, my two kids are affected by this.
Now we are fortunate to where we can be grandfathered
in to where it won't it won't cause any any

(21:12):
real change for my kids. And also I will I
will say my daughter's situation also is a factor as well.
She's a special need student and she's in she's in
a class that that you know, it's it's very important
for her to be in said class. So I get
it if your parent impacts you and your kids. It's
tough because a lot of people make these When you
make the decision to move to a certain area where

(21:34):
your kids will go to school, absolutely matters, and now
they will end up going to a school potentially that
maybe you would have never wanted your kid to go to.
And it's tough for everybody involved. And it did, in
fact pass. There was a school board vote earlier this
week four to one. It was approved to have a
major realignment. And I see both sides of it. Because

(21:56):
the parents upset and complaining, I totally get it, sympathize.
I also understand that these things have to happen. There's
a reason these things are necessary. And Superintendent doctor Jesse Bacon,
I mean, as a parent that has kids in the
school system, I have great I have great admiration for
everybody involved. I think where my kids go to school,

(22:20):
I'm very appreciative of everybody within the school system. Not
to say everybody's perfect, but I just this is one
of those things you're gonna upset people, but it also
just has to be done, and it's the first time
it's happened in over twenty years. I think it is
because you've got some schools very overcrowded while some sit
well under capacity. And again it's understandable on both sides.

(22:42):
And it's also closing down one school which had dropped
thirty two percent of their enrollment, the Nicchols Elementary School,
it will now close. That was part of this major
realignment plan that that did pass. So it happens from
time to time, and it's a tough situation for everybody involved.
But when you have massive over crowding at certain schools
and other schools being well under capacity, I mean, that's

(23:05):
why these things have to happen. So I'm taking sides here.
I get it from both sides. All right, quick update
trafficking weather on the way. Also, we've got a sports
update with Scott Fitzgerald right here on News Radio eight
