Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good morning, Kentucky, Ina, eight oh five Here at news
Radio eight forty WHAS Coffee and Company with you, don't forget,
take us with you wherever you go. Listen live on
the iHeartRadio app. Also listen live at WHAS dot com.
Bet a busy and wet morning thus far. It does
look like that most of the issues as far as
traffic because of some accidents that took place, probably because

(00:21):
of the weather that we've had. It looks like a
lot of that's been cleaned up. And I don't want
to speak too soon, but looks like they've done a
good job of getting things cleared up. But again, things
could always change, so make sure you stick with us.
We'll get you caught up on the roadways here in
just a few minutes. As I mentioned, been a busy
morning for a variety of reasons. We did talk a
lot about the return for Jimmy Kimmel last night. We'll
let you hear some of that. If you did not

(00:42):
hear any of it, and a lot of people probably
didn't for obvious reasons. They didn't want to stay up later,
they just don't watch those shows anymore, or maybe you
just you know, you'd never watch Jimmy Kimmel because he's
a stink and lib. Whatever your thoughts are, I get it,
you're entitled to those opinions. But obviously this is one
of the biggest stories we've had in and certainly the
last week or so, and it really just extends what

(01:03):
has been a real issue, at least in my opinion.
I don't think it's good that we are as divided
as we are, but we are, so we'll let you
hear some of that in just a moment. Also Google
admitting that they were pressured by the Biden administration and
that led to them censoring those that shared political opinions

(01:23):
that did not align and I guess that the Biden
administration did not want. But something else that we have
discussed briefly, which we're going to talk to Rory and
Eel coming up at about eight thirty five about this,
and that is a sim farm that was discovered, which
I got to be honest with you, I didn't even
know what a sim farm was. But to see the

(01:44):
visual of all these, I mean just it's scary looking
as far as just the way it was all set up.
So the US Secret Service they broke up what they
claim is the largest telecom seizure of its kind. And
if you haven't seen the pictures, go take a look,
because again I can't visualize what a what a SIM

(02:06):
farm would look like, but now that I've seen one,
makes total sense. But this is an operation that led
to one hundred over one hundred thousand SIM cards, three
hundred SIM servers, and they were all spread out within
at least I think five abandoned apartment buildings across the
tri State area of New York City. So I mean,

(02:28):
it's a scary thought that there could be more of these.
Maybe they've maybe this has been in place before and
we've been impacted by it and didn't know it. But
clearly the root of this, as far as getting to
the bottom of who did it, who, who's who's responsible,
I would assume that they're gonna they're gonna have the

(02:49):
resources to figure that out. But I also think when
you consider just what this is very neatly laid out
throughout all these apartments, just I mean, these are professionals.
This some sloppy, sloppy hacker that was just trying to
play a prank or something. So if in fact they've
left no trace and no ability to figure out who's involved.

(03:11):
That also wouldn't shock me. But you got to keep
in mind we're talking about at least five abandoned apartment
buildings across New York City. Most of those, in fact,
all of those apartment buildings, I'm sure have cameras. There
were people in there. Again, maybe they were careful and
you wouldn't be able to see anything. Maybe they were
there one time and they got it done, left and

(03:31):
they made sure they were not viewed by any of
the cameras. But this day and age, it's hard to
really completely especially when you've got resources like I mean,
the Secret Service involved here. But yeah, I've learned a
lot in the last few months as far as just
the things we discuss on this show. That is much
different than what I used to do when it comes

(03:52):
to broadcasting. But I think I was a little more
naive than I thought, because these are things that I
just would assume aren't happening. But clearly this is this
is a real thing, and I mean this is also
taking place during the United Nations General Assembly this week.
That's when you know that that's not a coincidence. I
don't think a real quicker before we get to another
update of trafficking. Whether we have played a few clips

(04:15):
from Jimmy Kimmel's return last night, A lot of folks,
I'm sure watched Jimmy Kimmel for the first time in
a long time, maybe the first time ever, just because
of how big this story is. And I'd say there
are many that have already made up their mind about
what he was going to say before he said a word,
and I get that. But here is his comment in
regards to what he had to say about Erica Kirk

(04:36):
and her her forgiveness of the you know, the individual
who shot and murder her her husband over the weekend.

Speaker 2 (04:44):
A very beautiful moment. I don't know if he saw
this on Sunday. Erica Kirk forgave the man who shot
her husband. She forgave him. That is an example we
should follow if you believe in the teachings of Jesus
as I do. There it was, that's that's it, a

(05:07):
selfless act of grace forgiveness from a grieving widow.

Speaker 3 (05:12):
It touched me.

Speaker 2 (05:13):
Deeply and I hope that it touches money. And if
there's anything we should take from this tragedy to carry forward,
I hope it can be that and not this.

Speaker 1 (05:27):
So as far as what was said there, I don't
disagree at all, but I don't know. She seemed genuine,
and that was what stood out to me more than anything,
because taking the high road, being the bigger person in
such a tragic time, I mean, I get it, but
I felt like she actually did forgive the shooter, which
again that's a powerful thing. She seemed very genuine, which

(05:48):
stood out to me. I don't know how genuine he is,
and he may be genuine. Only he knows that, meaning
Jimmy Kimmel. But you know, he obviously couldn't have said
that last week because she didn't speak until this past Sunday.
But some of the things that were said, you could
have just said that the first time you brought up
the Charlie Kirk thing and left it at that. That's
why I'm sure many folks, in myself included, I'm not

(06:11):
caught up in it. I really don't care how genuine
he is or not. But I have a hard time
necessarily thinking that that was some real raw emotion. But again,
only he knows as far as how genuine he actually was.
All Right, let's get to an update of traviick a
Weather right here on news Radio eight forty whas. It's
coffee and company with you here on news radio eight
forty whas. Thank you for joining us hanging out with

(06:33):
us this morning. A wet start to the day, but
it looks like right now, at least where I'm looking,
it doesn't look like we've got rain going on as
we speak, so and I know fall is here. With
the third day, I guess now of the fall season,
and the visuals here as well, there's certain I was
heading down Zone and Road and it hit me yesterday

(06:56):
just about I don't know, maybe quarter mile from our
neighborhood that there's certain areas right now it looks like
falls here with the color of the leaves and whatnot.
And we had a little gloom, which also I think
factors into the fall look. But I needed to feel
like fall. I needed to feel like it, and this
week I think, just with the rain coming and going,
it's been humid. But fall weather will be here soon enough,
and I can't wait. And you can start fall off

(07:19):
right with my friends at Tri County Ford. So check
this out. They've got the all new electric twenty twenty
five Ford Lightning EXLT. You can lease sure today. You
lease shorts today for just five hundred and forty nine
dollars a month on a thirty six month lease. So
track Honey Forward. I'm sure you've heard of them. They're
just just minutes from Louisville on I seventy one south

(07:42):
in Oldham County. And again the twenty twenty five Ford
Lightning EXCELT, which you can do here is experience the
legendary for toughness with zero missions and all the tech
you need for both work and play. Again, track Honey Forward,
Exit eighteen off I seventy one in Oldham County. Don't wait,
drive in today. Take advantage ten thousand, five hundred miles
per year plus tax line since dealer fees for well
qualified buyers only. All right, So again another update of

(08:03):
trapping Weather's coming your way here in just a moment,
but real quick. When it comes to the current current
job market, there's a real struggle. A new report from
the Bureau of Labor Statistics reveals that the US job
market is weaker than originally thought, with nine over nine
hundred thousand fewer jobs added through March than first estimated.

(08:24):
So there's a lot of factors at play here, but
US unemployment rate rows to four point three, the highest
since twenty twenty one here recently, and there's a lot
of uncertainty with tariffs that have led to this. So
maybe once there's a little more clarity as far as
what plays out, meaning what kind of impact the tariffs

(08:45):
really have, maybe once that uncertainty clears up, there could
be a real boost here. Only time will tell. But
obviously automation AR I'm sorry, AI, that's also a factor
here as well. Entry Level rolls are shrinking, and when
it's entry level, and it may be something that you
wouldn't really have to you know, it's a reason it's

(09:06):
entry level. You can pick up on it pretty quickly.
You don't have to have a boatload of experience for
this specific job. Those are the ones that are going
to be most easy to have AI simply take over.
So it's scary, I'm sure. And if I was on
the fence about leaving a gig, I would wait until
things look a little bit different than they do right now,
that's for sure. All right, let's get to an update

(09:28):
of trapping a weather again. We've also got a sports
a date coming your way. Rory O'Neil, NBC News is
going to join us coming up at eight thirty five
right here on News Radio eight forty. Whas we were
wrapping things up here on a Wednesday morning, you've got
Tony and Dwight coming your way here shortly. I'm gonna
guess you didn't stay up late to watch Jimmy Kimmel
last night, Tony.

Speaker 3 (09:48):
No, I did not. I've never really seen his show live.
I've seen him with clips before, but he's not my
cup of tea.

Speaker 1 (09:56):
So even if he was your cup of tea, you're
I mean, I just I think even if it was
something you used to just make part of your routine,
all right, the local news is ending let's fire on
a letterman, Lena whatever, maybe even Johnny Carson back in
the day. I just people don't do that like they
used to anymore. And uh, but last night, no doubt
there was clearly a bigger audience I would assume for

(10:18):
for Kimmel in quite some time.

Speaker 3 (10:19):
No, people don't want to hear what he I mean, Yeah, sure,
but I also knew I would see it in the morning.

Speaker 2 (10:27):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (10:27):
Here's and here's the deal too. If the overnight Nielsen
ratings and getting in the kind of little nerd talk
here among broadcasters. If the overnight Nielsen ratings are up significantly,
we'll hear about it today later in the news. It'll
be if they're if they're the same, or if they're
lower than John.

Speaker 3 (10:42):
It'll be impossible. A third of the affiliates said no,
So there's no way the Nielsen ratings go be up.
And that's the story. I don't care if he's on
the TV or I don't care right if he's on
TV or not. What the important thing for me was
that affiliates push back on the network, and they and
and that may be the first well they're going, you

(11:02):
know what, let's start pushing back on other things. Local television.
Sorry for all my friends in there, they know what
I'm gonna say. It's failing because the networks push stupid
game shows and stupid the view and when Oprah was
on the air, you got to clear this show and
it ruins. It ruins their bottom line, it ruins their ratings.

(11:23):
Local TV needs to start pushing back on the network
and say we're not clearing that show. My listeners don't
want to see. Are the people in Louisville don't want
to see that we're gonna sell local programming on that.

Speaker 4 (11:33):
Sixty six affiliates total between the two, that's a lotpanies.

Speaker 1 (11:37):
I think any ability to have a true identity as
a local television station is gone if you were underneath
some of these bigger corporations, because they just I mean,
that's that's the way it is. And I don't understand
the modelist to why they're doing it. My guess is
that they just keep trimming and cutting overhead to where
they can find a way to where it's profitable. But well,
now for local connection, yes, just not there.

Speaker 3 (11:59):
The local guys have been talking about it for years,
like let's just break off. Let's just break off. We'll
carry the news for them, the national news, but we're
gonna do. That's why DRB makes three times whatever they
make because they don't have to clear what's their morning show?
Four or five hours? Yeah, I mean they're four or
five hours long. They could just sell advertising in those
four hours where everybody's got to go national.

Speaker 1 (12:19):
They really I think they separated to really not only
better better cup, they just were a different thing than
what the others. Oh come, I mean, I hate to
say that.

Speaker 3 (12:29):
It's just well, they're very good.

Speaker 1 (12:31):
Do we know do we know what the acquisition by
Great TV? I mean, I know it was a big
piece of news earlier this summer, but I mean how
that looks any any clue?

Speaker 3 (12:41):
No, you're a smart guy. I mean you know you
know the answer to that question.

Speaker 2 (12:45):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (12:45):
But but as far as like timeline, like honestly, since
there have been they've already been looked. For example, Scott
Reynolds was recently let go by d RB. I don't
know the specifics, but it wouldn't shock me if that
was something that led to just that was just they're
they're making cuts. That's that's what's happening in in that
industry and also in this industry as well. But I
just it's sad. I guess that's the best way about it.

Speaker 3 (13:07):
That's why this station w HS Radio. For the daytime period,
three of the four shows are local shows, livelong. That
is like unheard of go across the nation. Three of
the four are local and with local guys that grew
up here. It's huge. It's huge. Yep, we got Mount
Washington in st or insult me. I'm Mount Washington, Oh

(13:30):
you're Mount Washington.

Speaker 4 (13:32):
We're all the same. This throws together, but.

Speaker 3 (13:37):
One couple of Saint Matthew's in Southside, we got it covered. Yeah,
we need a jaytown, We need a jytown. It is
sad that the local element is just not there as much.
I hope they pushed back. I hope affiliates say nope,
we're not clearing that we're going to do our own thing.
I hope that happens.

Speaker 1 (13:52):
All right, you guys are in good hands as we
wrap things up, because Tony and Dwight are coming your
way right here on Who's Radio eight forty w h
