Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good morning, Kentucky, Anda, welcome in, Happy hump day to you.
Yes it is Wednesday. It feels like Tuesday, but it's not.
It's Wednesday meeting. We are closer to Friday than you
probably realized, and that excites me. We are up and
running here again. It is a Wednesday. It is Kentucky
and this morning news coffee and company with you and
the whole crew in the house today. We've got Scott
Fitzgerald who is just feet from me, directly across back

(00:22):
here in the studio. Been a long time since you've
been in here. It has man, this is different. It's
nice to have your presence here, but sure nice to
have the full crew as well, because John Shannon's been around,
but John Alden's back.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
So we've got the full.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
Team here ready to rock and roll on a Wednesday.
And do you want to let you know you could
take us with you wherever you go. Listen live on
the iHeartRadio app. Also listen live at w h AS
dot com. So real quick, I just I happened to
notice this this morning, and now I'm seeing that it
is in fact not a me things. It's a real thing,

(00:55):
and I don't want to I don't want to root
for people to be in convenience, especially to start their day.
But chat GPT is apparently experiencing its biggest outage since
it's existed. Wow, And I think we're going to have
maybe a real case study here Fellas to see just
how much people truly rely on using the AI tool

(01:20):
that is chad GPT. So again, there's other chat GPT's
out there, like versions of it. There's GROC, which is
Elon Musk's And I'm sure I'm talking a foreign language
to some people because they just haven't had the need
to dabble, and I get it. But this fascinates me
because if it is a outage that lasts a long time,

(01:43):
I mean, it might be an eye opener for people
that their brain is turning to mush and that they
and they are relying too much just on a robot
to tell them what to do. And I will admit
I use the tool not for not for work, meaning
like it's do work for me, but I don't care.
I'll tell you how the sauce is made. When it

(02:04):
comes to preparing for the show and certain stories, what
I'll do is I'll just throw the story the information again,
I'm not saying, hey, tell me what this is. I mean,
I'll go literally read it for myself. And I've learned.
I've learned through my I guess attempt to figure out
how I can utilize this stuff to maybe help me.
If I just paste a story and say give me

(02:26):
the bullet points or whatever, I'm not smart enough to
actually just take it from there. So I do read
because I feel like I have to. If not, I'm
gonna just be reading and ripping and not really knowing
what I'm saying. So the comprehension is still there, but
I'll then put it into a format to where it
will at least give me specific bullet points of just
things to reference when a certain topic comes up. But

(02:47):
now this morning, I don't you know, I don't have
the ability to do that. It's not something I do
for every single topic. But you know, I don't have
access to something that I have at times used for
a lot of things.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
And I think I'm gonna be okay, But I don't know.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
Maybe maybe I started itching and breaking out in hoves
later because I'm a junkie that just needs that that fix.

Speaker 3 (03:05):
Well, my son told me that kids use it all
the time in school, can't.

Speaker 2 (03:09):
See it and it's it's too if.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
It's like to your point that Chad GBT is remember
when the Internet would go out. It's kind of like
losing Google in the early days when you lose Google,
because a lot of people, let's be honest, use chat
GBT as Google. They'll use to look up recipes, They'll
use it to ask a question for what have you?

Speaker 2 (03:29):
And we've gotten too use to that.

Speaker 3 (03:30):
Alexa comes to mind the early stages maybe of that,
when people would say, hey, Alexa, how many cups of
sugar do I need in this recipe? So to your point,
what are people going to do now that have heavily,
heavily relied on it.

Speaker 1 (03:42):
Because a lot of people are probably gonna lie and
say they don't use it. Yeah, you know what I mean,
because that's just that's what that's I think some people
are still hesitant, hesitant to admit that they rely on it.
Let me ask, so, so, John, your wife's a teacher,
do teachers use it for? Because I just feel like
when it comes to just structuring, not not again, not
literally say hey, do this for me. I guess you
are kind of saying that, But it's not like, hey,

(04:03):
give me, give me my plans for what I want
to teach the kids today. But you have your plans.
You utilize this to put to structure things for you.
So that's that's the word I was looking for, organize.
I can better be organized with the tools that it
has here, and I do rely on that to an extent.
But anybody, I think as much as AI as advanced

(04:24):
and man, we've talked a lot about it in the
last few months and we're probably going to continue, but
it's it's really not there for you to full proof
be able to say, hey, I'm gonna go I'm going
to go interview for a job that i've zero experienced,
zero background in. Give me some bullet points on what
I need to know about this industry.

Speaker 2 (04:41):
Like, you can't do that.

Speaker 1 (04:41):
Some people probably try and maybe they get away with it.
I don't know, but I just met John. Do you
know teachers, and obviously Scott your daughter's a teacher as well.
I just feel like it could really help them. But
I would be hesitant if I was in their position
to acknowledge utilizing it because it because right now the
temperature is just not there. People will think Okay, this
person's not teaching, they don't care. They're using AI.

Speaker 4 (04:58):
So my wife he uses it specifically to try to
figure out how to word something. She may have an
idea in mind but not know how to put it,
you know, from I guess brain to paper how it
may be, and so it makes it easier to get
her thoughts onto. I mean, I'm not somebody who uses it,
so don't all how it formulates it, but I know
she uses it to kind of get her ideas that
look make it look more professional like that.

Speaker 1 (05:20):
I think that's how a lot of people in the early,
you know, entry level stages of it are using it
because it can just help you. I mean, you could
have something on the tip of your tongue, you can
have something in an email that you think, man, this
just doesn't quite sound as polished as I want.

Speaker 2 (05:34):
And then there you go.

Speaker 1 (05:35):
And if that's if that's you know, considered, you know,
relying on a robot, and it's viewed as you know, hey,
that's not genuine. I'm guilty, and I know many people
are too.

Speaker 3 (05:45):
It's so different than me saying, hey, Nick, help me
out with this. I want to say this in a
better way.

Speaker 2 (05:48):
What can you do? It's kind of like we talked
about with YouTube.

Speaker 3 (05:51):
I want to do plumbing on YouTube's and plumbers are like, oh,
you can't go to YouTube. Well, what's the difference whether
I ask YouTube or I ask you?

Speaker 1 (05:57):
And you can ask You can ask chagibt ro any
AI tool that's got the tools, and you can end
up three or four different times and then finally find
where you want to be. And I just I think
that's how a lot of people are entry level again
utilizing it. But we'll see because right now it's experiencing
a global outage, and I'm sure we'll hear more about
it throughout the morning here, and we got a lot

(06:19):
to get to. Let's get to our first trafficking weather
update of the morning. We've also got a sports update
coming your way in about fifteen minutes.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
The full crew is back.

Speaker 1 (06:25):
We're happy mister John Old, the company man, is back
with us here today. So let's have a good Wednesday,
shall we? Right here on news RADIOA forty whas it
is five sixteen here at Kentucky and this morning news
coffee and company with you on news Radio H forty whas.
I did not think we were going to get any
rain yesterday, and I'm not going to complain, because I

(06:46):
really feel like we could be hit with some unfavorable
weather and still come out on the other end looking good,
given the fact that we've had just, I mean beautiful weather,
and I feel like the stretch we've had recently not
only is it rare and something I'm happy about, but
this time of year, of all times to get it
is even more surprising, because I feel like this is

(07:09):
usually the time of year where it's just so disgustingly humid.

Speaker 2 (07:14):
Now maybe I'm Maybe I'm not.

Speaker 1 (07:15):
Maybe that's just because when we get here, I'm usually
so over summer and ready for some fall weather. But yeah,
we were at football practice last night, and I mean
I didn't see any anything on the radar, and obviously
I was checking because I wanted to know we were
gonna end up having practice or not. And it looked
good until we get out there, and man, we got
we got hit with some pretty pretty severe rain. I

(07:36):
don't I wouldn't be I wouldn't be qualified to tell
you exactly if it was like a thunder if it
was a thunderstorm but some lightning coming through and it
didn't last too long, but yeah, you had a mad
dash from a just imagine a huge field where you've
got four different levels of teams, right, We've got flag
football up until I think there's three different teams above

(08:00):
flag football where my son plays, and he didn't. I
don't think anybody knew it was coming. And sure enough,
everybody's running for the once it was lightning and rain.
Everybody's running for their cars. And we went to a brief,
very brief moment of just trying to ride, everybody riding
it out in the in the cars until maybe it passes.
And then sure enough you had it just getting worse,

(08:22):
and the notification went out to everybody, and then there
was traffic because everybody's leaving this parking lot. So, yeah,
we got some rain, but I kind of felt like
it was needed. I don't know, the grass in my neighborhood,
some of some of the neighborhoods, there's some of the
lawns in the neighborhood looking a little crunchy, little little brown,
and I guess that's because falls on the way, or
maybe it's because we haven't had a whole lot of

(08:43):
rain as of late. But yeah, we'll get you caught
up on the forecast coming up here in about a
couple of minutes with Matt Melosovich wlk Y. We'll also
get you caught up on how we're looking on the roadways. Obviously,
so far seems seems like we're in a good place.
But again, if something changes, Abby Ellis'll be sure to
keep us updating. All right, it's week one of the

(09:04):
NFL season. Game on every touchdown, it'll bring you closer
to a payout with DraftKings Sports but an official betting
partner of the NFL. This isn't just football. Its first touchdown, fireworks, anytime,
TD rushes and live bets that rode every momentum shifted DraftKings.
Every play is your next shot to win. And we've
got the actual season starting here in one day tomorrow.

(09:26):
It gets going and I am as excited as can be.
And what a matchup we have to get things started.
We've got the Cowboys and the Eagles. And I'm telling you, folks,
if you have yet to give it a shot, and
that is experiencing what sports gambling, sports wagering can do
to enhance the experience of watching sports, I believe you're
missing out and apparently DraftKings does as well. Because what

(09:49):
they're going to do is they're going to give you
an opportunity to give it a shot with a great
offer that it'd be foolish in my opinion to turn down.
So what they're going to do if you're a new customer,
they're gonna let you bet you five dollars and get
three hundred dollars in bonus bets instantly, plus grab over
two hundred dollars off NFL Sunday ticket from YouTube TV
and YouTube. So again, you bet five dollars, you get

(10:10):
three hundred dollars in bonus bets. That's because they realize
that you're going to enjoy what comes with it. Again,
it's not about cleaning out the sports book making a
ton of money. I mean, I guess that's possible, but
it just gives you a different way of experiencing sports.
You've got some skin in the game. You can now
watch games where previously you had no care who wins, well,
now you do if you made a bet. It's a

(10:30):
lot of fun. And again this offer, I think you'd
be foolish to pass it up. We're talking bet in
five bet five dollars of your own money they get
you get three hundred dollars in bonus bets instantly. It's
that easy, So down with the Draftking Sportsbook app. Use
our code WHAS again. WHS is the code if you

Morning News on news Radio eight forty WHA I appreciate
you starting your Wednesday with us, although maybe I shouldn't
assume you're getting your Wednesday started. Maybe you started earlier
than us. I don't know wherever you are, however you're listening,

(11:31):
we certainly appreciate it. So chat GPT, which of course
is operated by OpenAI. It is currently down, and if
you go to OpenAI status, I guess the actual website
of status dot OpenAI dot com. Their latest update was
within the hour. It says chat gpt it is not

(11:53):
displaying resources. We have identified the root cause and are
working to resolve it. So when you fix a eye
that's broken, I guess the tool. I mean, I sound
really stupid here, and it probably won't be the first
time I've sounded stupid this morning, But we like fixing
a robot. I mean, I'm sure it's like code and
things I would never even but when trying to put

(12:14):
a visual to somebody fixing AI, I just think, what's
the movie with Will Smith eye robot?

Speaker 2 (12:21):
I just feel like they're working.

Speaker 1 (12:23):
On one of those guys in there, which I'm surely
that's not it, right, John, I mean that.

Speaker 2 (12:26):
Wouldn't definitely not I mean a little bit like a visual.

Speaker 1 (12:29):
Yes, I mean the visual kind of makes it, kind
of makes it cool. But I mentioned this to start
the show this morning because I just if, in fact,
this is down for a significant amount of time, I
think people could realize internally with themselves that maybe they've
become a little bit too dependent upon it. But it
looks like they're getting it worked out, and considering how
how big this is now, I would imagine they'll be

(12:51):
able to.

Speaker 2 (12:51):
Get it fixed pretty pretty quickly.

Speaker 1 (12:54):
All Right, So we just wrapped up Week one of
the college football season, and what a week it was.
I gotta ask John, what would you say was more
surprising Alabama just being nothing like what they've typically been.
I mean, not even mean remove Saban from the whole thing, yea,
I mean Alabama in general just did not look inspiring.

(13:14):
And again, not having Saban is a big factor in that.
But I did not expect either of those two teams
to look the way they did. Florida State look phenomenal,
and obviously Bama just looked. Bama looked like a middle
of pack SEC team And yeah, maybe they just had
a clunker laid an egg or like maybe this is
just the reality of their situation. Without a guy like

(13:35):
Nick Saban, especially when now Saban could get your players
that you wouldn't get just because of Saban. Right, Like,
if guys are picking from any school in the country
and they've got a four million dollar offer from let's
say Ohio State and a four million dollar offer from Michigan,
but maybe Alabama's saying, look three point five, guys would

(13:57):
probably take three point five because it's Alabama and it's Saban.
They trust it he's going to be able to put
them in the NFL. So, I mean, losing Saban is
certainly something you can't just ignore. But I also just
don't know if Kaylin Debor has the.

Speaker 2 (14:09):
Charisma for that gig. And I'm not sure.

Speaker 1 (14:11):
I mean, look who could walk in and Phil Saban
choose nobody, So that was a shocker. But then also
Arch Manning, the kid's not good. I mean, maybe he
had a bad game, but what I've been not brooding
for by any means I don't care if the guy's
great or not. I mean, I'm a Peyton Manning fan,
so his uncle's my favorite player of all time. But
I feel like anytime he's played, you can see, yeah,

(14:32):
he's big and he's a Manning and oh man, he's
kind of he's smooth and he's a Manning and you
know what, Man, he's manning like that. That's what he's
bringing to the table. And I'm you know, I know,
I'll give some of these guys a benefit of the doubt.
He would be impossible to evaluate if you are somebody
who does that, because he would get in your own head.
You would maybe see things that don't super impress you.

(14:54):
But then you think, well, but surely he'll figure it out,
you know, because he's manning.

Speaker 4 (14:58):
I think I'm more surprised that Alabama laid in egg
just because not only did they have a pretty decent
season last year, Florida State was got awful. They were
two and ten, coming off with the thirteen and oh
season where they got left out of the playoff, and
so to see them kind of respond the way that
they did, especially after the FSU quarterback said that Nick
Saban can't save them the way that they had in

(15:19):
the past.

Speaker 1 (15:20):
That was my favorite make That was my favorite story, oh,
for sure of the weekend, just because he quite literally
called his shot. Didn't really say that Alabama was trash.
He just mentioned that they don't have Saban anymore and
he can't save them.

Speaker 4 (15:35):
And it's a shot at de Bor.

Speaker 1 (15:36):
Yeah, and he went in there and actually proved that
everything he said was right.

Speaker 2 (15:40):
He backed up every bit of what he had said.

Speaker 1 (15:42):
And it's kind of a cool story anyway, because he
was a really good player of Boston College. Then he
gets benched because Bill O'Brien comes in and just didn't
was working. But prior to Bill O'Brien coming to Boston College,
Castellanos was a problem in the ACC And then of
course he gets the opportunity at Florida State to bounce
back and talk about a way to make your debut
and really show that that was that was an outlier
last year. So yeah, Bayma, I mean, I'm just thinking

(16:05):
about what a sports talk call in show sounds like
in Tuscalusa right now. Paul Bombot, Oh, he's probably crying
with him. Oh, Paul, geez, real quick. Some spreads for
this week in the local teams. Louisville of course getting
kicked off on a Friday night at Ellen n Cardinals Stadium,
thirteen and a half point favorites. Currently in the Kentucky
they've got a big challenge as they bring an ole

(16:26):
miss a tough second week opponent and they are currently
ten point dogs.

Speaker 2 (16:30):
Mark Stoops and the CAATs are all right. Let's get
an update of trafficking weather, shall we.

Speaker 1 (16:33):
Roory O'Neil set to join us on the other side
right here on news radioaight forty whas. Happy hump days
you thanks for hanging out with us here on news
RADIOA forty whas. Also big thanks to Roy O'Neil of
NBC News who joins us here on eight forty whas.
Let's talk affordable retirement rory. At the same time, the
best and Worst places to retire has been announced. Half

(16:54):
of Americans don't think they'll be able to move forward
with retirement just because I assume of economic cons and whatnot.
What can you tell us as far as the latest
surveys here.

Speaker 5 (17:03):
Yeah, a lot of people just don't think All half
of Americans don't think they should expect to be able
to live comfortably in retirement. Pretty stark numbers. As the
new survey from the folks over at wallet hub shows
that there are a lot of people who are panicking
about exactly what their retirement will be and a lot
of people depending on family members perhaps for that level

(17:26):
of support, many of them admitting they're not doing enough
to plan appropriately for what is to come.

Speaker 1 (17:33):
When it comes to the employers, I mean, we've had
discussions about it where you're seeing some companies encourage early retirement.
That could put some of these folks in a tough
spot to where maybe they've realized, Hey, even though they
are encouraging me, and maybe in a decade prior, I
could have maybe been a little more comfortable at that time.
But I think it's just a clear thing, regardless of
who you're talking to, if you're looking for you just

(17:54):
now know that people are not as you can just
tell people know that it's not going to be maybe
quite as easy as they thought it would be.

Speaker 5 (18:00):
Right, Well, most private employers these days don't have pension
plans anymore. Right, It's all been shifted to the worker,
mostly through four to oh one K programs. So suddenly
the worker is supposed to be a financial whiz hitting
this all figured out, rather than being able to depend
on a pension for the rest of their lives. But look,
many people now think they'll just never retire. Forty three

(18:22):
percent of those in the survey from walathub said they
expect to work until they die.

Speaker 1 (18:27):
That's I mean, I feel like just the quality of
your life with that being your mindset will take a
toll on people. Because everybody wants to see light at
the end of the tunnel. Everybody wants to work towards something,
and I think you could. I would imagine there's many
that now just have the realization that this is it's
not going to be there the way you thought it was.

Speaker 5 (18:45):
Right. The numbers just don't add up, especially when you
look at housing costs, the cost of healthcare. Yeah, a
lot of families are just saying, you know, they don't
see a path forward with this current system.

Speaker 2 (18:56):
And as for some of the.

Speaker 5 (18:57):
Best cities and places to have that retirement if you
get one, Orlando, Florida actually tops the list. A lot
of Florida cities. Scottsdale, Arizona is in there number two.
The number three one surprised me. Minneapolis, Minnesota came in
at number three on the list largely because of the
access to good healthcare there and Louisville seventy eighth on

(19:17):
the list out of like two hundred.

Speaker 1 (19:19):
Yeah, we could do better, but I guess it could
be worse. That's one way to look at it. Riyanil NBC,
this is our guest joining us here on news radio
eight forty whas So, although it doesn't get as much
attention as other branches of the military of the United States,
Space Force is in fact a real thing. And now
there's word that the Space Command will be moving to Alabama.
What does the Space Command actually do for those like
myself who don't know a lot about it? And why

(19:40):
did they break the state of Alabama?

Speaker 5 (19:43):
Okay, so why Alabama? A lot of it may be political.
President Trump was asked yesterday. He said, it's because Colorado
has a corrupt mail in ballot system and I won
Alabama by forty seven points, so, you know, not the
best reasoning.

Speaker 2 (19:56):
But the.

Speaker 5 (19:58):
Inspector General even did a report on and this found
a bit of a muddy decision as to why they
chose Colorado. You know, it's the newest command in the
US military. And just to clarify, I'm not blaming you.
I know someone sent you the wrong question there. For me,
the Space Command and the Space Force are two different things.
The Space Force is a branch of the military like
the Army, the Navy, the Air Force, so the Space

(20:20):
Force is in there. The Space Command is an operational
area of control. So let's compare it to Central Command
sent Comm that's based in Tampa, but it handles all
the US military activity in the Middle East, and that
would mean that scent COOM is in charge of deploying
the Army, the Navy, Air Force, Marines to operations in
the Middle East. Well, this is the same way Space

(20:41):
Command will deploy the Space Force and other assets necessary
to monitor the situation in space, whether it's with satellites
or you know, Armageddon style asteroids come in our way.

Speaker 2 (20:53):
What can't he do?

Speaker 1 (20:54):
He's educating me here on a Wednesday morning, and we
appreciate him.

Speaker 2 (20:58):
Rory, you are the best while to.

Speaker 5 (21:00):
Slap my boss down for writing that bad question for you.
He heed you up badly.

Speaker 2 (21:04):
Yeah, and look, hey, it happens. It happens.

Speaker 1 (21:07):
I'm sure it won't be the last, and it's okay. Well,
when it happens, you'll be there. You'll be there to
educate me and get it all worked out, just like
you did there. So we certainly appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (21:16):
Thank you, Rory. Hey, thanks Nick, that's Roy O'Neil.

Speaker 1 (21:19):
INBC News always appreciate his time, all right, So let's
get set for another update of trafficking weather mat Melosatch
will tell us how we're going to look today as
far as the forecast. Bobby Ellis will tell us how
the roadways are looking thus far on a Wednesday, and
of course another sports updates coming your way. It is
