Speaker 1 (00:00):
It is five oh five here at News Radio eight
forty Whas Coffee and Company with you on a Thursday
as we get this thing started, Nick Coffee, that's me
the full cruise here, Scott Fitzgerald, John Alden and of
course John Shannon and fellas. We got a wet start
to the day and it probably won't surprise you to
know that that has already created some issues on the
(00:21):
roadways this morning. Usually how it works, right, So I'll
let you know as of now, we've got an accident
at I sixty five North Great Lane and the left
shoulder is blocked, and I believe there's two other accidents
currently that you should be looking out for. So yeah,
the other west ramp from South Hurstborne Parkway on I
(00:43):
sixty four west, right shoulder is blocked there, and then
the other location here within Kentucky. And it looks as
if is the right shoulder blocked at I seventy one
north at mile markers seven and a half. So that's
approaching I two sixty five in Louisville, So seventy five
as it gets close out to sixty five, that is
where you've got the right shoulder block there. And again
(01:04):
that's a seventy one north. So yeah, let's let's be
careful this morning.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
Everyone.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
We've got wet roadways, and man, we had a good
thing going, didn't we when it comes to the weather.
So I'll nobody likes rain, especially when you get the
day started. But I guess if anything were due, we
were spoiled for what feels like nearly two weeks of
for the most part, really really beautiful weather at a
time where we typically don't see.
Speaker 3 (01:27):
To get that, no, And I think to your point,
I was thinking about you last night, Nick, I looked
ahead and.
Speaker 2 (01:31):
I thought about you last night too, So thank you
very much. My evening's go.
Speaker 3 (01:36):
The eight to fourteen day outlook says temperature is gonna
start warming up again, and you.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
Know you said, I assumed it would. Just you know,
that's that's part of it.
Speaker 3 (01:45):
We've been spoiled. In fact, my daughter's coming over to
watch hum. My daughter is hosting fantasy football for the NFL.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
Now nice.
Speaker 3 (01:51):
Yeah, So we had the draft last night and I
was busy, so I had to auto draft. But I
asked her. She said, what are you doing Sunday? And
I said, well, I'm watching NFL. I said, what do
we want the question.
Speaker 4 (02:01):
Is that right?
Speaker 3 (02:02):
I'm like, I said, so what do we want to do?
Do we want to cookout or do we want a
crock pocket or crockpott it? And she said, tempta is
only supposed to be seventy six throw something in the crockpot.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
I said, yeah, it's gonna be short ed.
Speaker 3 (02:13):
Might as well enjoy it, will it's here because it's
gonna warm back up.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
Again mid eighty, no doubt about it.
Speaker 1 (02:17):
Like the NFL has no demo, right, I mean no
demo unmatched anybody. Everybody likes the NFL. Right, And we
have the first NFL game taking place this evening, which
I'm certainly excited about. I know we're going to certainly
chat about that is. Not only do we have the
first matchup, but of course the first week coming up
on Sunday, really really exciting stuff. Now, I don't know
if you've seen the update here, Scott, but we have
(02:40):
the powerball jackpot had his climbed to one point seven
billion after another drawing pass without a winner last night,
So forty one consecutive drawings without a jackpot winner since
May thirty first. So the next strong is going to
be on Saturday, and the prize is expected to be
the third largest in US lottery history. And your odds
(03:00):
of hitting that jackpot folks one and two hundred and
ninety two point two million. So you're telling me there's
a chance.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
You've got a chance.
Speaker 3 (03:12):
That's how I always know I didn't win, because for
one of the things I do when I wake up,
I open up X or Twitter and just to see
what's going on. And immediately, if somebody in Louisville one,
you knew, that would be like dominating your feet.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
I wonder if you So let's just say you did
win last night, what in what way do you think
you would find out? Because I think more people would
be surprised, surprised to see that they would end up
realizing somebody in Louisville one, and then they and then
they thought, Okay, maybe it's me. Yeah right, because because
(03:47):
I could be wrong. But most people I know that
that purchase tickets, and it's not as if it's everybody
that I know. I've not done a full audit, but
they usually just wait and see if someone will. They're
not watching it live or you know, getting it right away.
They're just kind of waiting to see, oh did somebody win?
So I just you never know. But I kind of
feel like that's how a lot of people would find
(04:07):
out if they want or not, unless, of course, you
are somebody that tracks it and watches it really closely.
But I think you might think, Okay, you know what
if I did win, here's what I would spend the
money on.
Speaker 2 (04:16):
I would be charitable.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
And you think about life if, of course it changed
in a substantial way by you winning the lottery, but
you not checking it closely, it's probably a sign that
you deep down realize it's not's not happening.
Speaker 3 (04:29):
No. In fact, I carried the last time I won
the three digit I carried that ticket around in my
pocket for a better part of three to four weeks.
Speaker 2 (04:35):
Almost five weeks.
Speaker 4 (04:36):
Really.
Speaker 3 (04:36):
I found out almost a month later when I went
and just scan my ticket on a whim and I'm like, oh,
I got some beer money.
Speaker 4 (04:42):
All right, this.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
Works unexpected money.
Speaker 1 (04:45):
It's like whenever you're doing laundry and you forgot that
there was a pair of pants behind the dresser, maybe
they've been there six months, and boom, you got forty bucks.
That's like the Mega Million's jackpot for me. I mean,
it's a feeling that I love. All Right, let's let's
have a morning, shall we, fellas. Let's let's get started
off in.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
A strong way.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
It is five eleven here at news Radio eight forty whas.
We've got traffick in weather updates on the way and
a lot more to get into.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
So don't go anywhere, don't you dare? Where would you go?
Stay with us?
Speaker 1 (05:14):
Right here again it's news Radio eight forty whas. So
yesterday we heard from the Epstein accusers.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
And I tell you what I think I said this.
Speaker 1 (05:26):
Maybe I don't know, maybe a month or so ago.
It's hard to keep up a time when it comes
to a lot of things, especially this this specific situation
slash story, because it's it's never gone away, and I
think the constant need that people have to want full
transparency to you know, have everybody potentially involved accountable, Like
(05:49):
I just don't know if that if that is possible,
as far as like what people who are really locked
into this, and I'm not saying that they shouldn't be.
Trust me. I don't mean to sound this as if
it's a criticism, because I get it. If you if
you are someone that has been following this super closely,
and you just simply realize there's certain things that I
guess the government wants us to believe that you just
know is not believable. I can see how it would
(06:10):
get people worked up. But this is this, This is
I think the the biggest topic conversation, if you will,
in America, where we are not really divided right now.
There's some that are going to be on the on
the Democratic side that are that are now yelling for
transparency about the Epstein situation that weren't yelling for it
(06:33):
quite as loudly whenever the previous president was in place.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
That's just how it works.
Speaker 1 (06:38):
And then you have those on the Republican side that
maybe are not quite as uh as vocal about MAGA,
maybe more so just pro Trump and clearly Republican that
that are that are saying, hey, you know, something's not
adding up here.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
What's going on here?
Speaker 1 (06:55):
If you remember, I have like the the loudest and
not to say that it was overwhelming, but the loudest
always as far as just Republicans being willing to share
their displeasure and hunt and I guess unhappiness with the
way a certain thing has been handled.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
By Trump.
Speaker 1 (07:09):
It was it was the Epstein situation. So you know,
you have this is where we are. There's more alignment
here as far as just really wanting to wanting to
have some transparency. And that's an unusual feeling this day
and age when you consider the climate. I mean, it
just is. But yesterday nine Epstein accusers delivered testimony, I.
Speaker 2 (07:29):
Guess is what you'd call it on Capitol Hill.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
Urging Congress to release all Justice Department files from their investigation.
And it was Kentucky Republican Thomas Massey that organized the
press conference and he is pushing hard for the how
for a House vote on the release of all files
in this investigation. Now, some of these accusers they shared
(07:52):
just different personal accounts. Obviously some disturbing stuff that they shared.
They were very critical of authorities for years of inaction
and not not holding those accountable at that time. And
some of these survivors have threatened to publish their own
list of names if Congress doesn't act. Now, what I
would ask there is what when it comes to NDA,
(08:13):
non disclosure agreements, settlements, those kind of things. I had
always just assumed that the reason we have not heard
specific names from victims that we do in fact know
are real people, which of course we know. That is
why Jeffrey Epstein wasn't federal prison. So maybe it's a
legitimate threat and they're not.
Speaker 2 (08:34):
They're not.
Speaker 1 (08:35):
They don't care if they get sued because they've signed
an NDA, or maybe some didn't in fact sign an NDA.
So the Trump administration clearly they opposed this entire thing.
And Trump is not not changed up at all. I mean,
he's called this in recent months now. Again he has
changed up quite a bit since you know, previous years
when this was being discussed, but in recent months he
(08:57):
has called this a democratic hoax, and I just don't
really know what he I mean, I know what a
hoax is. I mean, I get what he's saying, but
I also don't really get how he would expect many
people to just say, Okay, well if you say so,
oh yeah, it's a hoax.
Speaker 2 (09:13):
Yeah, not real. And again it's this is the reason
I think we are.
Speaker 1 (09:21):
Not as divided on this specific topic is because I
think it really isn't necessarily about politics, and it's something
that has been been out there and there's been a
real demand for transparency and accountability with two different presidents
in place right, and clearly we've never been as divided
(09:44):
as we are now, it seems, at least in my opinion.
So again, I don't know if anybody's going to get
what they're desperately wanting as far as transparency, But it
doesn't seem as if this thing's if this thing's going away.
But I also don't really see any I can't, you know,
shake the crystal ball and get a few looks as
(10:05):
far as what plays out to where we do get
anything other than what we have now, which is all right,
nothing to see here. So anyhow, we've got traving no
weather updates on the way, and we've got a sports
update coming your way here with Scott Fitzgerald as it
is the first day of the NFL season, and that
makes me very very happy. Stick with us right here
our News Radio Way forty Whas. Thank you very much,
(10:28):
John Shannon. It is five thirty five here News Radio
Way forty Whas. I appreciate you hanging out with us
on a Thursday morning. It is a wet morning as
we get this Thursday started, We've got a few accidents
that have caused some issues this morning. It looks like
as of now just too I know. I believe the
issue on it looks like the issue on sixty five
that had one of the one of the I think
(10:50):
it was the right lane that was blocked has been
taken care of, which is good. But currently we've got
a disabled vehicle on US sixty five west from Southhurstborn
Parkway and then another accident that is causing the right
shoulder to block to be blocked. That's on I seventy
one north right as you get to I sixty five,
(11:10):
so right shoulder block there. So just keep in mind
that it is a wet one and that has. Of course,
I shouldn't say I was expected, because I don't want
to act like we can't get through a morning without any.
Speaker 2 (11:21):
Issues because it's a little wet outside.
Speaker 1 (11:23):
But typically whenever we get some wet weather, traffic is
is not good. Now, we did have a very unusual
morning a couple weeks back. I believe it was again
not great. With time here, sometimes something seems like it
was the other day and then I realized that was
actually a month ago. But I believe we had perfect
weather one morning and we had probably what was the
(11:44):
most I don't want to say it was the worst
morning ever for traffic. But certainly since I've been in
this position, I don't remember a morning where we spent
more time not only updating you on accidents that were
causing some major delays, but every time we went to
update you on a accident that we knew about, we
found about another one, found out about another one. So again,
just to be safe out there this morning, all right,
(12:04):
thenne one one call that you heard there's some of
it in John's newscast. Is just a scary reminder if
you're a parent, grandparent, and you you've ever once briefly
left your children in a vehicle unattended, even if it
is for a for a couple of minutes, because I
(12:24):
just can't imagine being the mother who left a nine
month old baby in their vehicle only for the car
to be to be stolen. So again that that happened
last week, I think it was, and it was south
Brook Street East Broadway, and the child's mother briefly left
the baby, which was asleep in the car, only for
the suspect, Brandon Conley, to hop in and and drive away. Now,
(12:48):
he did later drop the infant off at a Jewish hospital,
but of course, you know, and again I would assume
that when this happens, which, by the way, it does happen. Uh,
the most of the time, they're not They're not thinking about, hey,
let me let me steal this vehicle because it has
a baby in it. But if somebody's willing to commit,
(13:09):
you know, a carjacking, they're probably not in the right
frame of mind. So right, I mean, they may realize,
oh crap, this is this is this is not what
I wanted. I just wanted the vehicle. I didn't I
didn't want to get it. I didn't wasn't expecting there
to be a child in here. So again, what they
do in that situation you never know, and you don't
want to think about it. But the fifteen minutes that
(13:32):
the mother says was the longest fifteen minutes of our
life as you could expect. I mean, I can't imagine
the many things going through your head when that, when
that happens. So he is charged with kidnapping a minor
and auto theft. And I remember this was probably back
in gosh, I guess it was probably twenty sixteen, twenty seventeen,
(13:53):
maybe very early on in my time here at iHeart
but I was doing the show on WKRD from noon
to three at that time, and in real time, there
was a situation ave a live alive police chase on
I sixty five north out of the Shepherdsville area, which
isn't far from where where I grew up and where
I currently live, and there was a in the I
(14:15):
think it was the Kroger parking lot in Shepherdsville. Same
thing happened, and this deranged and I believe on drugs
at the time. Individual he didn't he didn't, you know,
he didn't stop right, he knew he was caught. There
was a baby in the car, and he's on a
high speed chase. He did get apprehended, and the baby
was okay. And I remember just I think I think
(14:36):
my daughter was maybe the exact same age at the time,
and I just I could not I could not stop
thinking about what that feeling would be like. And I
still think about it every now and then, just because
I mean, I don't leave my kids in their car
are unattended, and I don't have babies anymore. But seeing
something like that should make you realize, oh yeah, there's
a reason you should never you should never do that,
because one, it's it's insanely dangerous. But imagine like knowing you,
(15:00):
it's yours. It's your fault, straight up. Yeah, the jerk
who stole your vehicle, that person, they they're the worst,
But like you, you know you you chose to leave
your your tivel in a car and attended, and whatever
happened to them, you would Ultimately, I think I have
a tough time not feeling responsible for it for a
long long time. So yeah, again, you shouldn't need the reminder,
(15:22):
but if you do, I think when you when you
hear from from parents who've made this mistake. And fortunately
this woman is able to look back on it and
realize that men, she's very lucky because it could have been.
It could have been a lot worse. So just you know,
I can't imagine doing it. But again I'm sure, I'm sure,
I'm sure others have done it and got away with
(15:46):
it and they just feel like, hey, it's okay, no
big deal, but don't do it.
Speaker 2 (15:50):
Don't do it? All right, quick break, traving weather on
the way.
Speaker 1 (15:52):
We've got sports coming up in about fifteen minutes, and
we also have we also have Roy O'Neil coming up
on the side. It is fout forty six here Kentucky
at this morning news news RADIOA forty whas thank you
for hanging out with us. Coffee and company with you,
and we have Rory O'Neil of NBC News who has
joined us here. Rory, let's talk about vaccine mandates. Obviously,
(16:16):
we've got RFK Junior testifying today, and obviously he's got
sounds like he's got some changes planned for us when
it comes to vaccines here well.
Speaker 4 (16:26):
Right, and there have been some big changes over at
the CDC in the past week and today the secretary
is talking to the Finance Committee in the Senate. They're
going to have an awful lot of questions about the
management of that organization, the fact that the director was fired,
four other top leaders have quit, and yesterday a thousand
healthcare professionals said RFK Junior should go. In this signed letter,
(16:48):
it'll be most interesting to hear from Senator Cassidy from Louisiana.
He is a physician, he's a Republican. He was the
swing vote on the committee that made the RFK nomination
get through, and he is reportedly very upset with the
way that the vaccine programs are now being managed by
RFK Junior, So that could be a very good bit
(17:10):
of television this morning.
Speaker 1 (17:12):
Is those who are who are in favor of no
longer requiring requiring vaccinations at the level that we have
for quite some time. Is it because they just they
fear it's it's they're being controlled. They fear that there's
there's some effects to these vaccinations that maybe are being
kept from the public. I mean, i've, i've I'm sure
(17:32):
I'm not asking you to answer for speak for anybody
but yourself, but clearly we've been doing this a whole
long time, and the change is now someone like myself.
Speaker 2 (17:40):
It just it's a head scratcher a little bit.
Speaker 4 (17:43):
Well, look, and you know, you just had the state
of Florida yesterday announced that they're going to end all
vaccine mandates, so you know, no more measle shots for kids,
no more MMR and mumps and rubella. Yet no vaccine
requirements at all would be the law under Florida if
this is authorized. And look, there's a lot of questions.
Obviously this is all COVID related, and a lot of
(18:06):
the faith and these health institutions started to erode during
COVID and this is essentially a culmination of that with
more vaccine skeptics coming getting into the spotlight.
Speaker 1 (18:17):
Rory and IILIVANBC News is our guest joining us here
on news radio eight forty w HS. We heard some
from We heard some from some Epstein victims yesterday as
they spoke out and did say that if there's not
action taken and I suppose more transparency releasing of the files,
that they will name names themselves.
Speaker 2 (18:34):
Was this was this a surprise?
Speaker 1 (18:35):
This is this is something I assume just wouldn't be possible,
maybe because of NDA's but maybe it's a legitimate threat here.
Speaker 4 (18:42):
Well, right, So what the women essentially agreed to was,
you know, we may not be able to say anything,
but oh gosh, at this league, did I leave that
on that table? I didn't mean to leave that list
there on that table for everyone to see. I mean,
I think congress Woman Marjorie Taylor Green said, I know
you can't read the list or make a list or
say the names, but give to me and I'll read
the names on the floor of the house. So yeah,
(19:04):
I mean, this essentially puts a cloud over an awful
lot of heads. Again as what they're trying to do
is get a discharge petition, and they need another handful
of Republicans to come on board so that this issue
would go around the Speaker of the House and his
control of the calendar and instead force a floor vote
that would compel the Justice Department to release all the
(19:25):
Epstein files. Of course, this would also have to be
passed in the Senate as well. No small feet there,
but one hurdle at a time. And you know, it's
difficult to stand up against these women who gave some
powerful testimony on the steps of the Capitol. But just
minutes after, President Trump said this is all really a
democratic hoax that's designed to distract from what has been
(19:46):
what he says is the most successful eight months of
a presidency ever.
Speaker 1 (19:50):
So he says it's a democratic hoax, which I know
a lot of people have a tough time believing. But
if let's say you're somebody that doesn't see it that way,
but you kind of stay in the lack of transparency,
are you likely just assuming that just because of the
nature of what went on, and there may be others
that could be tied to Epstein, but it wouldn't in
any way indicate that they were a part of the
(20:11):
awful things that he was I just I just know,
I know it's been pretty consistent here in recent months
as far as what Trump has said. But I just
don't get the sense that, regardless of your political affiliation,
which side julean, that you view this as a democratic hoax.
Speaker 4 (20:24):
Well, right, I think the President has said repeatedly that,
you know, he's for releasing things, but he doesn't want
innocent people to be caught up in this.
Speaker 2 (20:32):
You know, absolutely happen, right absolutely. R FK.
Speaker 4 (20:35):
Junior said he flew on the Epstein plane twice. Now,
you know, does he get tainted with this and all
these other sexual abuse allegations? You know, and Donald Trump
and Jeffrey Epstein were longtime friends that had a big
falling out that was certainly high profile. Although exactly why
it is a bit murky, but that's still you know,
obviously he's in there. Prince Andrew got caught up in
(20:56):
all this. You know, he's had had to pay settlements
and you know, essentially a race for history. So how
do you deal with someone whose name is in these
files versus people who are actually responsible for assaulting these
underage girls.
Speaker 1 (21:10):
Rory is always appreciate the time, Enjoy the rest of
your day, and we'll talk tomorrow morning, my friend.
Speaker 2 (21:15):
Thanks Nick taught to you.
