Speaker 1 (00:00):
Thank you Perry Williams, and thank you John Shannon.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
It is eight oh five here at Kentucky and this
morning news coffee and company with you on News Radio
eight forty whas take us with you wherever you go.
You can listen live on the iHeartRadio. Also listen live
at WHS dot com. And if you are on I
sixty five looks like I sixty five.
Speaker 1 (00:19):
Let me see here north. I'm sorry.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
If you're on I sixty five South and you are
approaching the Fern Valley Road exit, you may not be
moving and going many places because there is an accident.
Looks like the left shoulder and the left two lanes
are blocked. And I'm looking here at the camera of
courtesy of Trimark, and yeah, it doesn't look it doesn't
(00:43):
look good. Doesn't look to be from what I could tell,
an e wreck. That's going to keep things shut down
on those two lanes for a substantial amount of time.
But again on what do I know? I mean, I yeah,
lot of lot of delays there on sixty five South.
So we've had a few accident this morning. That of course,
that happens from time to time, especially whenever you've got
(01:04):
a wet start to the day, and it was exactly that.
So stay safe and again, right now.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
There is a crash.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
It looks as if I can't tell if it's a
single vehicle crash, but I do see that I sixty
five south approaching Fern Valley Road. The left shoulder and
the left two lanes are currently blocked, so if you're heading.
Speaker 1 (01:21):
That way, be advised. All right.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
The NFL season is getting set to start tonight, which
has been very exciting. I've waited impatiently for the NFL
to get here, and we've talked a lot about that
throughout the morning. But I am curious tonight how many
times because I know it's gonna happen at least once.
You know, the Chiefs they don't play tonight because they're
in action tomorrow. Tonight we've got the Cowboys and the Eagles. However,
(01:48):
they're gonna talk about Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift getting engaged, right.
I mean the scenario where it doesn't come up at
any point from the announcers, I feel like would be
a huge shocker.
Speaker 3 (02:00):
I bet it's in some sort of joking fashion. They're
mentioned it one time. It'll be where they see fit.
Who knows how it'll come up, but that'll be how
you hear it tonight.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
They can mention it once, maybe four or five times,
and it will be. It'll be just as it could.
It might take three seconds, five seconds as far as
just the reference of it. But what I'm what I'm
curious about just because I I'm these things interest me
from a programming standpoint, like are they told to like
acknowledge it or they told to They're certainly not gonna
be told to stay away from it, because talking about
(02:33):
anything with these two individuals, Travis Kelcey and Taylor Swift,
I mean, it's it gets a lot of attention, and
I'm not like it doesn't. It doesn't make me angry
whenever it is mentioned on third games, whenever they show
her in the in the crowd or whatever it may be.
It's just to me, you know, it's it's not something
(02:53):
I'm looking for, but it doesn't actually bother me. But
I think with some people they don't, you know, they
don't they don't want it shoved in their face. And
I think I would advise those people to just accept
the fact that, hey, this is entertainment. Sports is a
lot of fun. We take it serious. It's awesome, but
it's entertainment. And this is a huge storyline within the
world of entertainment that blends really just entertainment, pop culture
(03:15):
gossip stuff with of course the NFL, and the NFL
has got no competition when it comes to sports here
in America, when it comes to interest and just overall viewerships.
So I am sure that it'll get mentioned at least
once tonight, and I'm sure people will be bothered by it.
But here is a recent poll that is from Yahoo
(03:35):
and you gov, and it says here that Taylor Swifts
and Travis Kelsey's engagement is dominating headlines and social feeds.
But a few of these polls say that most Americans
aren't paying it, aren't paying it much attention, or caring
much at all. I think maybe that's where I am.
I don't care, I don't pay a lot of attention,
but I'm not at all surprised when it does come up.
(03:58):
Seventy eight percent of Americans say they don't care at
all about their engagement, only four percent care a lot,
while eighteen percent say they care a little again caring
a lot, caring a little, not caring at all. I
feel like can actually be different levels of care for
each individual person, right, Like I don't care about their
engagement because I don't know them. You know, I hope
they have a happy life, because you know, I would
(04:20):
wish ill will on them. I don't know them.
Speaker 1 (04:24):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
I just where I can't relate with the celebrity gossip stuff.
And clearly I'm in the minority, at least I think
I am, because clearly there's enough people that give celebrities
attention for anything, right I mean, Travis Kelcey, he might
fart later today, there's probably going to be TMZ coverage
of it.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
That's just where we are.
Speaker 2 (04:42):
And they wouldn't do that if it didn't work, if
it didn't generate interest, if it didn't generate views on
the internet. So saying you care, like, do you really care?
You don't know them? Can you care for somebody that
you don't know at all? Like, can you genuinely have
Like can you can you go throughout your day the
(05:02):
day they got engaged and just be happy for them?
Speaker 1 (05:04):
I guess I mean you can't.
Speaker 3 (05:07):
Let's think about it from our perspective as sports fans,
like you grow close to certain players, especially like let's
take Louisville's national championship team from twenty thirteen for example.
Do you feel like you cared for them during their run,
especially and especially during that moment you had the Kevin
ware stuff going on, people were feeling for him during
his injury.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
Yes, but I I feel like there's a little bit more.
And again I'm probably talking out of my rear end
here because Taylor Swift as a musician, she's performing for
millions of people every year.
Speaker 1 (05:36):
With her tour and across the world.
Speaker 2 (05:40):
So I don't consume that wouldn't even really know what
to expect, but I just don't feel like there's any
way to like connect. Again, the reality is this, we
don't know any of these people, and I try to
remind myself of that a lot in sports, because you
just don't.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
I mean, like we think we do, but we don't.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
And the more we remind ourselves of that, the easier
you know, the better I think we'll hand in anything
that comes our way. So maybe I shouldn't say that
you can't care about them, but I just feel like
having genuine happiness for somebody that you that you don't
know at all. It's I guess maybe it's a it's
a common human emotion, and I don't want to sound
like a cold hearted person the next like I don't
(06:16):
care about anybody.
Speaker 1 (06:17):
I don't know. That's not all what I mean. It's
just put it this way.
Speaker 2 (06:21):
This is the nicest way for me to say it
is I try to eject from this whole thing because
I realize what I sound like and I don't mean
to sound that way.
Speaker 1 (06:27):
I just I wouldn't.
Speaker 2 (06:29):
I can't relate to people who are happy that the
celebrities are getting married, because again I I don't. I
don't seek out any info, any details about how celebrities
are living their lives, just not because I don't like them.
It's just it doesn't doesn't do much for me.
Speaker 3 (06:43):
There's also people that I wis to care because they
know what aggravates other people.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
Yeah, and this is a terrible thing to say to
sports fans, because like, this is what makes sports great.
Speaker 1 (06:51):
But you would be.
Speaker 2 (06:52):
Much better off and you'd avoid some some some of
the emotional negatives that come of being a sports fan
if you did, in fact live in the reality that
you do not know these individuals and you know you
don't really you know, not to say that, you should
assume that they're terrible. And then I've also learned in
my time in sports that if you do get to
know people and you have a platform and you talk
about them, it can make things uncomfortable and you're better
(07:14):
off not knowing them, to be honest with you. So yeah,
I you know, and coaches lead people are devastated. Well,
he's a human, it's a job. They got a better opportunity.
You would do the same thing. But we oftentimes, and
I just know this for many.
Speaker 1 (07:27):
Years talking sports. Sports is real.
Speaker 2 (07:30):
It's entertainment, but like there's a very very blurred line
as far as like your act, like what's your experiences
as a fan? You're watching to be entertained, and that's
really all it comes down to. And it's just hard
to view it that way because a lot of us,
especially around here with U of l UK, it's it's
such a big deal, it's part of our culture. We're passionate.
But at the end of the day, it's entertainment, all right.
(07:51):
Let's get to a quickup date of trafficking. Whether it
is eight thirteen here at news Radio eight forty whas
it is eight eighteen here at news Radio eight forty
WHAS call company with you. Nice to have the full
crew in the house today. Don't forget Tony and Dwight
are coming your way at nine o'clock this morning. Also,
don't forget that if you ever want to take us
(08:11):
with you wherever you're going, you can do that. Listen
live on the aheartradio app. Also listen live at WHAS
dot com. So let's see when it comes to just
sort of where we've been throughout the morning if you
are just now joining us. One thing we did discuss earlier,
which of course has become a national story just because
of the nature of what went on. But the twenty
one year old UK student who was able to hide
(08:34):
that she was pregnant, gave birth to the baby and
then the baby was later found dead. We don't know
what the actual cause of death was. So that is
the update that we got to believe. Yesterday afternoon, the
coroner in Lexington says that the preliminary autopsy, Yeah, the
preliminary findings are inconclusive as far as the autopsy as
(08:57):
far as what actually caused this infant to die, and
the twenty one year old she's uh, she's allegedly wrapped
the baby and a towel and put it in a
black trash bag and that was found at her home
that is near the University of Kentucky campus. So if
you search her name Lake and Snelling l A K. E. N.
(09:21):
Snelling dot com. I mean, of course, you've got countless
pages on Google of just the story itself, because again
that's what happens when these type of stories are out there.
But the other websites, right, not necessarily just the news websites,
but you know, the Daily Mail and look at me
just give you some other examples of and I got
to go pretty deep down the down the list here,
(09:44):
but just sites that are more so newsy entertainment. They're
they're they're doing some digging and just trying to figure
out more about this this individual who who again got pregnant.
Speaker 1 (09:56):
Maybe they were.
Speaker 2 (09:56):
I mean again, it's not that we're looking for answers
that's gonna make this make any sense. That's not possible.
But I do think just sort of figuring out the
curiosity that's the best word to use. The curiosity that
is there as far as okay, how was she able
to keep it a secret. Was she somebody that maybe
had a mental issue to where she just was so
(10:17):
bothered that she was pregnant and worried about what it
would do for her life, worried about how people would
feel about her, maybe her family, that she just in
her mind blocked it out because that's happened before. Where
in order to in order to I guess, just be
able to more effectively get away with hiding it. You
just simply operate that it's not real. Now again, I
(10:38):
think if you let your guard down, then you would
maybe just show some signs because I mean, again, these
are answers that eventually we may get as far as
how far along she was, is there anybody that knew?
And just a sad situation all the way around, And
I feel for everybody involved, And I just I think
of the parents of this this woman because I mean,
(11:02):
I mean the feeling that they would have as far
as their child going through this and not feeling like
they could at least just I mean, I would want
I mean, there's certain things in life that I would
never want to happen to my child ever, I mean
things that would be a nightmare scenario. But what I
would want more than anything as to if that did happen,
(11:24):
that they would know, hey, dad is here, come to me,
and who knows what I would be like in the moment,
right because you just never know what kind of information
you're getting. You never know what type of situations can arise.
But to know that your kid did this and they
didn't feel comfortable coming to you, they felt that the
route to go was this one would just be something
that would haunt you in a major way. And then
(11:45):
I haven't really thought about this much since I've looked
at again, some of the other the other stories that
are out there, is people just dig deep into the
social media of this individual. They dig deep with people
that are connected and tagged in social media posts with
this woman. And you know, imagine maybe the you know
whoever whoever the dad was. I mean, imagine finding out
(12:06):
that you could have been a dad and and you were,
and the woman that you that you got pregnant.
Speaker 1 (12:13):
She killed the baby.
Speaker 2 (12:14):
Like, it's just the layers to just how this could
impact so many people. It's it's it leaves me speechless
if you can't tell That's why I'm spinning my wheels here.
So yeah, I h just an awful situation all the
way around. But again, the newest update is that there
there's not been they've not been able to determine the
cause of death, and they're going to going to need
to do more extensive autopsy and I'm sure we'll get
(12:34):
those details at some point. All Right, let's talk about
something good on a brighter Lets talk about Jeffson Animal
Hospital in the American Red Cross. They've got these second
Pints for Paws and People event coming up on September Saturday, Saturday,
September twenty seven. It'll be at their Okalona location, so
JEFFERSONNIM Hospital and Regional Emergency Center forty five oh four
outer Loop. You can get more information at pet bloodbank
(12:55):
dot com. And if you don't know what it is,
they're gonna let you come out and donate blood with
the American Red Cross and they're gonna educate you and
also let you have your dog and cats donate blood,
which if that's something that you're unfamiliar with, they're aware
of that. They're gonna have experts on site to kind
of walk you through the process, let you know what
exactly it is that they're doing when they take blood
from your dog or your cat, and each donation can
(13:16):
save up to four to six lives of pets, so
clearly a lot of value in doing this.
Speaker 1 (13:20):
You also can enjoy food.
Speaker 2 (13:22):
Meet the team out there and again it's Jefferson Nimal
Hospital Saturday, September twenty seventh at their Okland location. More
information at petbloodbank dot com. All right, let's get an
update of trafficking weather. We'll also get a sports update
coming up here with Scott Fitzgerald, and also at eight
thirty we'll bring in Rory O'Neil of NBC News. So
stick with us right here on news Radio eight forty
whas final segment for us here on a Waney a
(13:43):
rainye and wet. I combined wet and rainy to waney.
I like that that, no believe it or not. I
do know the English language, fellows, But Toty n Eddie's
with us here, John Shannon as well. Tony and White
coming your way here in about twelve minutes or so.
The construction it was noticeable on your way in Tony.
Speaker 4 (14:01):
Uh yeah, because if you go another way to avoid
the construction, you run into more construction and.
Speaker 2 (14:06):
Then you know what, maybe you get a few miles
down the road and boom, there's more construction.
Speaker 4 (14:11):
Literally, it is in every way I can get anywhere
in Louisville today. The Brook Street exit, Jefferson Street exit,
that's blocked. But if you take the Third Street exit
to go up Third Street and take a right on
Muhammad al Lei, that's blocked, so you can't go there.
If I come out on Brownsboro Road, that whole mess
with the VA Hospital, you can't avoid that because now
they've started up the River Road construction. So if you
(14:32):
take a left on Blanket Baker, can't do that one
because then you're stuck in the River Road. Guy.
Speaker 2 (14:37):
So it sounds like you've tried to find ways to
counter the traffic obstacles and you've been defeated.
Speaker 1 (14:44):
It sounds like this is what this has been heard
in my truck. Don't you got a new truck? Don't you?
Speaker 4 (14:50):
I got a new F one fifty and it's beautiful.
Speaker 1 (14:53):
All right on the spot. Right now, I look foolish
in a truck, right.
Speaker 3 (14:56):
No, I wouldn't be the guy that they say, Ah,
he's overcompens I considering what you drive now.
Speaker 4 (15:02):
No, I started wearing my work boots a lot more
and listening to country music. That's part of the gig, right.
I can't play on the road. I can't listen to
Taylor Swift. I can't listen to Taylor Swift pulling up
to the red light with my window down.
Speaker 2 (15:18):
The last accident I got in it ended up with
my car being in the shop for about two and
a half weeks. This was years ago, probably like twelve
years ago, and the only rental available that my insurance
covered was in.
Speaker 1 (15:30):
F two fifty. Oh wow, man, and I drove it around.
Have fun parking that?
Speaker 2 (15:35):
Yeah, I mean I got a lot of looks now
because wow, that's a big truck. I got the look
to where they didn't have to say a word. The
look itself said yeah, this, look at this guy.
Speaker 1 (15:44):
Who's the thing?
Speaker 2 (15:44):
He's really trying, you know, because it looked embarrassing when
I would try to get in the vehicle. I mean,
for those who don't know, who've never been fortunate to
get the visual experience of coffee and Company.
Speaker 1 (15:55):
I'm not very tall. I'm about five eight at best. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (15:58):
I had to help my mother get in it the
other day. I was like, Mom, I'm sorry, fifty is.
Speaker 1 (16:04):
I mean it's it's a huge difference from that one fifty.
I love trucks. I love driving them trucks. You're higher
up on the road. Yes.
Speaker 2 (16:13):
And my son has been saying, Dad, you're gonna get
a truck. You can get a truck, And now he
stopped asking because I think he's like, yeah, Dad, you're
not a truck guy.
Speaker 1 (16:19):
I couldn't pass up the deal.
Speaker 4 (16:20):
It was, of course, no money down for ninety nine
a month for a brand new truck. And if I
paid for a cab, or if I would have bought
the truck, it would have been eleven hundred dollars payment
a month.
Speaker 2 (16:31):
How many vehicles do you have, John Shannon? I feel
like I see you driving a different one now. One
was a rental at one point.
Speaker 1 (16:36):
Yeah, there's there's been a car lot or something.
Speaker 5 (16:39):
I feel like it. No, just having some misfortune with
getting a couple of cars repaired. And it's hard on
hundred miles round trip a day on my car takes
its toll, so it's it's waiting for me to get
some money to get it fixed.
Speaker 4 (16:50):
Where America, we love our car.
Speaker 1 (16:51):
Ye, what was your first vehicle?
Speaker 4 (16:53):
Fellas, Oh, seventy two Super Beetle.
Speaker 1 (16:56):
It was yellow, Super beetle.
Speaker 3 (16:57):
It was yellow.
Speaker 4 (16:58):
They had holes in the floor in the back, so
maybe if my friends were drinking beer back there, they
would just throw the cans right through though, right through
the whole.
Speaker 1 (17:05):
I had a two whel It's a good idea.
Speaker 5 (17:07):
I had a base Model nineteen eighty five gmc jimmy
that was rubberized everything inside, and it was am radio
front speaker only, no floor mats, you know, the vinyl
seats everything that.
Speaker 1 (17:18):
That was it.
Speaker 5 (17:19):
But I thought it was great because I had wheels
on my own to get to get to school.
Speaker 1 (17:22):
I had a Ford Escort.
Speaker 2 (17:24):
And I'm very glad that it was a manual transmission
because I learned, yes how to drive, and I don't
think i'll ever need to now, to be.
Speaker 4 (17:30):
Honest with you, if you have a manual transmission, it's
thief proof now because thieves don't know how to run.
Speaker 1 (17:35):
Thought of that. I guarantee they get it and go.
That's a really i'd never thought of. That makes total sense.
Speaker 2 (17:41):
Yeah, I guarantee the amount of people in the younger
age would they get in there and.
Speaker 1 (17:47):
Look and say, what's this? I got to I got
to find another car.
Speaker 2 (17:50):
Manual, Tony and Dwight have a good show, and we'll
be back at it tomorrow morning, and we will be
one game into the NFL season, and that makes me
very very excited.
Speaker 1 (17:58):
Take care
