Speaker 1 (00:00):
Happy Friday, everybody, and thank you for starting your morning
with us here at news Radio eight forty whas it
is Coffee and Company. Happy to be here with you.
We do have a crash at I two sixty five East.
It looks as if that is that's the left shoulder.
In fact, yeah, the left shoulder in all lanes are
are currently blocked here, and I will admit probably shouldn't
(00:23):
admit it, but hey, I believe in being transparent. I'm
just now and I need to thank my mother for this,
because she shouldn't have to tell me at thirty seven
years old a guy who you know, is in the
position that I'm in, which I two sixty four and
I sixty five are which interstates are they? And I
thought I knew, but I didn't know, like I thought, Okay,
(00:44):
well I think sixty five that's I sixty five. Well
two sixty five is the Snyder and sixty four two
sixty four is the Waterson. I mean that's right, isn't
it Giant's Cruik? Yeah, I mean I should know that,
but I didn't trust it. And Nowma told me yesterday
and now I'll now I'll just know because she was
she was caught up in traffic in a major way yesterday.
(01:05):
And you know I now not only am I trying
to update people and of course relying on the great
Bobby Ellis to let us know how the roadways are looking. Now,
I think, well, I gotta let mom know what she's
in for because she's heading to work. But yeah, we've
got left. Yeah, yeah, let's see here. I pulled up
the view of the closest camera to it, and yeah,
not a whole lot of movement there. And again that
(01:27):
is that's mile marker ten point six. So this is
so this is right as you're getting on sixty five.
So this is Snyder to sixty five eastbound, which is
actually the exact path that I take to get here
most mornings. So be advised. Looks like there's a there's
a crash. I can't tell if it's single vehicle or not,
but uh, not a whole lot of movement from what
(01:49):
I can see right now, So just just be advised. Alrdy, Again,
it is Kentucky and it's morning news, coffee and company
with you on a feel good Friday. And this is
something that I wasn't expecting as far as news. But
I'm not really surprised in the grand scheme of things,
and that is that Andy Basheer has taken his little
his little podcast, as he called it, not me to
serious XIM.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
The little podcast that could is is going national and
I think it's because serious XM saw that a common sense,
common ground, get things done type of voice is needed
in our country right now.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
So his his popular podcast is getting a big time
national boost because serious XIM. They've given Andy a deal
where he will have, I mean a big platform. He
already has a big platform. He's you know, he's the
governor of this state, and of course he's he's known nationally,
but this will give him a chance if he wants.
And a lot of people are thinking that his decision
to do this is a sign that he does want
(02:43):
to potentially run for president. So he's a two term
governor who has been floated for a while now as
a potential twenty twenty eight presidential contender. And let's be honest,
I think the podcast world, if you will, was a
big factor in our election that just took place. I
(03:04):
think in you know, a variety of ways, and I
like to me I'm somebody that you know, I think
that that is a situation. Politicians are going to be politicians,
let's be honest. But I do think as much as
people kind of laugh at it, like wow, these presidential
candidates are going on with THEO Vaughn and yeah, Theovon's
an entertainer, but I also think it gives you a
(03:27):
really good chance to maybe kind of like I think
these politicians, again, they're always going to be ready to
to say what they feel like is going to make
them look good and get votes. They're being politicians, but
I think that it's a rare opportunity where they could
potentially maybe take that layer off right and kind of
show a little bit more about like people like Theovonne
(03:48):
and I'm trying to think of other big known because
I'm not Rogan, they can I think in conversation, and
that's what that's I think it's a gift this reason
those guys have big followings not only because of their talent,
but also they get things out in conversation at a
guess that a lot of people don't. So I think
if Basher wants to wants to really, I guess further
(04:13):
not only get himself out there as far as just
reaching more people where it's not because he's talking about
a national story that relates to the state. This this
gives him a chance to do that. So this will
be let's say, let's let's see what it's. So the
Andy be Sheer podcast is going to join the Serious
XM podcast network and it'll be on at eleven am
(04:34):
on Saturdays. It's channel one twenty seven and the channels
it's Serious x in Progress. That's the name of the channel,
but it's Channel one twenty seven and it's the first
national episode is going to drop next week September tenth,
and it's going to feature an interview with House Mental
releader Hakeem Jeffries.
Speaker 2 (04:50):
So.
Speaker 1 (04:50):
Also, Basher is going to host a live call in show.
It's going to be called Andy Basher Presents. That'll be
September the ninth, So that's coming up next week at
noon and special will feature Basher taking calls from listeners nationwide,
along with the political commenters joining to uh to to
join the show here and there. So his podcast, I
(05:11):
will admit I don't. I don't listen to it. I don't.
It's just not my thing, not meaning not mean that
I don't listen to it. Because of him. It's just,
you know, a governor having a podcast. It's just not
something that would that would typically be what I'm looking
for when it comes to a podcast to listen to.
But clearly a lot of people do and a lot
of people like Andy, and clearly there's people that don't.
But I can't. You know, I don't know anything. But
(05:31):
if you you know, if you made me tell you
one way or the other, what I what I take
of this? I think this this to me, says that
he is seriously interested in making a run for president,
and he's done a pretty good job of being pretty
what's the word.
Speaker 3 (05:48):
I mean, he's like not a robot, if that's is?
It kind of like more conversational that sort of thing.
Speaker 1 (05:53):
Yeah, But what I was getting at is more so
that he's clearly been asked about potentially running, and he's
done a really good job of not really I think,
giving any indication. Right. I don't think you can say, Okay,
here's the sign he's not going to do it, or
oh look he's going to do it, and that's what
you want to do, right. You don't want to show
your hand. But I do think this move at least
makes me more so lean that okay for those that
think he may just not have the interest, he clearly
(06:15):
has some interest. And if he didn't have any interest,
I think he would say that. But then again, I
don't know. Maybe saying that in general could turn you
off to certain people within your own state. So anyways,
the Andy b Sheher podcast joining Sirius XM. We need
to get John Alden on there as a guest. Oh yeah, well,
will we talk about the Hoosiers? Right? That's yeah.
Speaker 3 (06:34):
I mean like he's a cat's guy, whether he says
it or not, he's a cat's guy.
Speaker 1 (06:37):
Of course he is. If Andy Basheer said, hey, Nick,
I know you're your guy, the company man, your producer,
he's going to be a guest. I'm kind of nervous.
He's a big deal. What should I What should I
talk about to make him feel comfortable? I'm going to say,
you talk about the Indian Hoosiers.
Speaker 3 (06:50):
We've got to bring back the battle for the Bourbon
Barrel between Indiana and Kentucky.
Speaker 1 (06:54):
That'd be great. Yeah, that'd be awesome. Actually I'd be
here for it. Yeah, they should play in.
Speaker 3 (07:00):
That should be Kentucky. Well, no, I guess Louisville be
Kentucky's required beyond whatever P four opponent, that's none.
Speaker 1 (07:06):
If they ever get rid of playing those nonsensical games
in the FCS, Indiana should be on the game aps agree.
All right, let's get to a quick update of traffic
and weather as we roll along here on news Radio
eight forty Whas it is six seventeen here at news
Radio eight forty whas. Appreciate you hanging out with us,
letting us be a part of your Friday morning. So
(07:28):
a big night of football tonight here locally. Obviously a
ton of high school action. But the Louisville Cardinals is
going to play their first game under the lights at
L and N Cardinal Stadium in a long, long time.
I believe it was Eric Crawford of WDRB who had
a column kind of highlighting that because of last year's schedule,
and it may even be I mean, this sounds crazy,
(07:51):
but it may have been two years running where they
did not have a game kickoff where it's nighttime. No,
that's not the case, because they had the Notre Dame game,
of course, which was a huge game for Jay Prominence
first year. That was a nighttime game. But Yeah, Yeah,
here we go. The last time Louisville played a night
game at home was November nine, twenty twenty three, when
they beat Virginia in a game that was way closer
than it was supposed to be. So the atmosphere at
(08:15):
Ellen and Cardinal Stadium at night is just different. And
I'm hoping that there's a good crowd on hand. I know, honestly,
in all seriousness, high school football going on does impact
certain people's availability because they either go to games to
support their community, support their son, grandparent whatever, or grand kid,
whatever it may be. But here's what I think. No
matter how many people are there, and I think they'll
be a good crowd as far as numbers, those that
(08:37):
are there are going to be rowdy. They're going to
be into it, and that should make it should make
it for a tough night for the James Madison. Are
they the Duke's John?
Speaker 3 (08:44):
Are the Duke?
Speaker 1 (08:45):
Yeah? The Dukes, And I've got a lot of respect
for their program, which I'm sure if they heard that,
they think, Wow, we really have made it. This loudmouth
in Louisville's got respect for our program. And I say
that as I'm about to kind of dump on them
a little bit here, because he's not the first coach
to do it, and he probably won't be the last.
He won't be the last. In fact, JMU head coach
(09:05):
Bob Chesney, he has been doing what all coaches do,
talking up the opponent. Which that's just that's that's that's
gonna happen. Right. You could be favored of a fifty
points and a coach and a press conference leading up
to the game will say things like, well they got
a good ball team. Yep, you le are well coached.
A coach, coach John's got have got his guys playing hard,
like it's just they it's just it's like they turn
(09:25):
into robots. They just say those things because that's what
you should do, and it keeps your players, I guess
potentially in a situation where they could avoid overlooking somebody
and you know, you don't look like you know, you're
being disrespectful. But then to throw in I mean the roster.
You know what they spend on the roster, it's a
twenty million dollars roster. Like that that is that is weak.
(09:49):
That is weak. That is I think a it's like
the indirect, nonchalant way to admit you're already defeated. You know,
you don't have the dudes to compete. And yeah, clearly
the have nots are going to have a tough time
competing because they're not going to be able to pull
in nil resources to go build rosters like higher level programs.
(10:12):
But last I checked, that's how college sports has always worked, right.
You think Bama didn't have an advantage with Nick Saban
before nil, You think Notre Dame didn't have advantage at
getting players before nil. It's just they now have the
same advantage. It's just there's an added component to their advantage.
(10:34):
So again, it's not untrue. Louisville will have a lot
more talent and they will have paid a lot more money,
which again means they shouldn't lose. It can happen. But
I think saying, you know, the reference of the roster
is is an insecurity that is bleeding through with some
of these coaches that well, I mean if I had
twenty million dollars roster, it'd be a different situation. I mean,
you know, but they got twenty million, you know, and
(10:54):
we don't saying it after the game probably weak any anyway,
But it's different than saying it before the game, You're
basically like, let people know ahead of time. You've already
got a built an excuse on how you're gonna get beat.
And I think if you say it after the game
and you win, that's that's laying it on the table.
If you know what I'm saying, I like it. I
(11:15):
mean I would, I would do that. But any acknowledgment
to it and a loss, it doesn't mean it's not true,
but it's just, you know, I think it's weak. So
Bob Shesney, if you're listening, that's what I think. And
I hope your team has a fun time in Louisville
and leave safe this evening. They could be being professional
(11:35):
in classy. That's the difference in talking sports on this
platform compared to you know, just the nonsense, the debauchery
from my previous life. All right, we've got another sports
update coming your way here in about four minutes. We'll
also get an updated traffic and weather right here right
now on News Radio eight forty whas. Thank you very much,
John Shannon. It is six thirty five here on a
(11:55):
Friday morning, Kentucky. It this morning news Coffee and company
with you on News Radio eight forty WHAS take us
with you wherever you go, wherever you're wherever you're at,
whatever you're doing. On a Friday, you can always listen
to us live on the Aheart Radio app also at
whas dot com. I think JCPS for the most part,
has gotten off to a really good start this year
(12:17):
as far as just avoiding headline stories that you know
are a bad look until recently and again, to be honest,
the situation where they had a school bus stop shooting
twice in less than a week. I mean, that's an
awful situation, but I don't think that's anybody's fault within JCPS.
But the getting getting kids to school, which you know
is pretty important when it comes to public school system.
(12:40):
You got to get the kids to school in order,
you know, for school to happen, and they've had previous
issues with that over the years it's become sometimes a
national story. But this year it was pretty smooth and
uh for the most part, I think from what I've
seen it. Again, I'm not I'm not embedded within JCPS.
I don't I don't work for JCPS obviously, but it
seems like doctor B year where the new superintendents has
(13:01):
gotten up to a pretty good start. But the bad
milk situation, the milk scandal, if you will, is just
it's just something that can't happen. So and look, things
do happen that are unfortunate, that maybe weren't super avoidable,
but really how you handle it after the fact is
very important. In the latest situation here is just a
(13:22):
reminder of that, because they're going to face some more
backlashed than they already have, because there's now some internal
records that have revealed that the district knew about spoiled
milk being served as students nearly a week before they
notified parents. Initial statements that claim no students drink the
milk or later proven false. That just can't happen. It's
(13:44):
really it's not just sound dramatic. I don't want to act
like I'm I'm losing sleep over it, but I mean
like that, that's inexcusable for that to happen. So kids noticed,
staff noticed at different schools throughout Jacps on August fourteenth
that there was mold inside the Prairie Farm's milk cartons
(14:04):
mold Seneca High School, Goldsmith Elementary. Their students said that
the milk tasted sour. So again on the fourteenth, you
have staff members at schools as well as students letting
you know that they've drank sour milk. And I'm sure
there's a protocol that you go through when that happens
and whatever I mean, and if there is, and if
they followed what was the protocol, it needs to be
(14:27):
adjusted because when that happens, I think, you know, you
got to have a and look, maybe they followed what
they had in place and it just clearly backfired on them.
But that was on the fourteenth, So again staff letting
you know there's mold and milk, students letting teachers know.
Probably parents know too, Hey, I'm drinking sour milk at school.
That's not good. So the eighteenth of the twenty first
(14:49):
of August, you had multiple reports pouring in from all
kinds of schools across JCPS describing sour smells, curdling, and
expiration dates that were missing on the milk cartons. Photos
and staff emails documented widespread spoilage and poor storage practices
for the milk. So for a week this is going on,
(15:12):
and it was the twentieth, so I guess six days
in was when JCPS finally notified parents saying that quote,
the issue was caught in routine quality checks and that
no student consumed the spoiled milk. That wasn't true. I
can't say that's a lie. Maybe what doctor Eyearwood said,
and by the way, WDRB had this story, but the
doctor Eearwood said that those who said that nobody, you know,
(15:35):
no students consumed the spoiled milk, clearly that wasn't the truth.
But there is a I think a plausible scenario to
where whoever's putting it together from the PR department, they
wouldn't know specifically, They're just taking somebody else's words. So
clearly somebody, you know, bad information, somebody lied, somebody was misled.
But again that led to the you know, the overall
JCPS sending out a message that just wasn't true, and
(16:00):
you know, there's going to be many people that clearly
know that that's not true. So what they did is
they later walked that back and stated that that was
not correct, admitting that students had complained their milk tasted funny.
So I'm sure initially they realized, hey, we've let it,
we've let it be known that we caught this in
quality checks and that no student drank sour milk once.
(16:21):
That's the message that sent to every parent in JCPS,
and they realized that's not the truth. Meaning JCPS, they're
wise to get out in front of it. But you
then still had, even after parents were notified, students that
were claiming that the milk was bad. I mean, you've
got multiple elementary schools, male high school. I mean, they
(16:42):
put the milk on hold after complaints from students. So
it's a crappy situation all the way around. And really
it's just one of those things that can't happen. I mean,
you can have spoiled milk and it can absolutely be
the fault of your provider. I mean, and that I
think is the issue here to an extent. I mean,
some of this is not on the school system. It's
on whoever's who was responsible for providing the milk to
(17:04):
the biggest school district in the state of Kentucky. But
you know, you got to you gotta know what you're
giving kids to drink. If it's spoiled, if it's not,
if it doesn't have an expiration date, if it's molded.
I mean, that's just that's a bad look. So again,
all they can do is improve on it. And I
do think what I heard last night in the WDWB
(17:25):
newscast from doctor Yearwood is you know, he's aware that
you know it's unacceptable, and they'll learn from it. But
this just seems like one of those things that could
have been handled a lot better and it wasn't. And
now it's becoming a bigger story for good reason. And again,
I haven't had a glass of milk in a long
long time, and this story has made it made me
(17:46):
want to continue that streak of not having not I'm
not anti milk. I just don't drink cereal, I don't
drew milk and cookies. I'm not anti milk. I just
never think, hey, let me go to the fridge and
get a glass of milk. And now I think if
I was to do that, I would think about the
molded milk that the JCPS student's strength. That's very great.
All right, We've got a quick update of traffic and
weather coming your way, so stick around right here on
Who's Radio waight forty whas we're just a couple of
(18:08):
minutes away from your next traffic and weather update. We've
also got another sports update coming your way. And then
laped spokesman Dwight Mitchell with us here in studios, so
we are loaded the rest of the way. Appreciate you
starting your Friday with us. And the NFL season got
started last night, and I thought it was a good
game overall. I was expecting the Eagles to not necessarily
dominate because you really don't often see I mean, it happens,
(18:30):
but it's rather rare to see a team legitimately just
get completely beat down in the NFL. And last night
the Cowboys. If you're a Cowboys fan, I'm not not
that I'm anti Cowboys, but they I thought were more
competitive in that game than I think most people expected.
And who knows, I'm not sure the weather delay really
impacted one team or the other any certain way, but
(18:53):
the Eagles got off to a good start after winning
the Super Bowl last year. And again, Cowboys a lot
of talk recently as far as just a lot of
the money that was given to Dak Prescott despite some
underwhelming results overall, really just not being able to get
it done when it matters, and then of course Michael
Parson's being traded that was not something a lot of
Cowboys fans were happy with. But if you're just going
(19:13):
to look at it specifically with what you saw last night,
I'd say you have to be rather pleased with what
you saw again because you took on the Super Bowl
champs that may win it again and in that moment
at their place with a rowdy crowd Dallas, I thought
competed pretty well. All right. If you're looking to get
involved in the action when it comes to wagering sports betting,

watching sports. The entertainment value is top notch when it
comes to just having some action, right, not because you're
out here trying to make a living doing it and
if you are able to do that, good for you,
