Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, let's get it started another week with us
here Coffee and Company on news Radio eight forty whas
Kentucky in his morning news It is five oh six
on a Monday, September the eighth, myself and the one
and only Scott Fitzgerald. We're just talking about our weekends.
John Alden, I gotta know, how was your weekend, because
he had a good weekend. I had a good weekend.
It was, and I mean to hear you had a
(00:20):
good one too.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
It was fantastic. Had a great time watching college football
on Saturday NFL yesterday. I'm so glad that we're finally
in the full swing of football.
Speaker 1 (00:29):
So we're here. It is here, fellas. Oh yeah, and Scott,
you said you had a pretty quiet, low key weekend, right, yeah,
Sometimes those are the best, right dude.
Speaker 3 (00:37):
It was amazing. It was on the download, got a
lot of stuff done around the house that I need
to get done with, like you guys, kept football on
all weekend, and then the family was over for dinner
last night. We threw on some chili.
Speaker 1 (00:47):
Oh yeah, oh.
Speaker 4 (00:48):
Dude, it was amazing.
Speaker 1 (00:49):
The weather is getting there for chili, yes it is.
It's kind of chili out there this morning. No, no
pun intended, but yeah, we got a nice little breeze going.
We don't know yet for sure just how good John
Shannon's weekend was, but I'm going to assume it was
good because you know, he's a good times guy. But
the only bad thing I can I can say about
the weekend is none of us were winners of the
power ball. No, there was, in fact a winner, two
winners actually, so two people will split the the one
(01:15):
point seven eight seven billion dollar powerball drawing. So the
one of the winning tickets was sold in Fredericksburg, Texas.
Have you heard of Fredericksburg, Texas? No, neither of I.
And it sounds like it's a pretty small town, which
I like that. I don't want to hear that it
was somebody living and you know, it just seems like
California always seem again, they've got a lot of residents there,
(01:37):
Therefore they've got a better chance. I guess, yeah, Texas too,
So Texas, it's a small town. Fredericksburg. It's it's a
gas station that's off US Highway two ninety and I
saw an interview with the gas station manager and it's
like something out of a movie. She was just so
excited that here's the quote. It says, nobody ever thinks, hey,
my store is gonna win a jack pop, but here
(01:58):
we are, and she was right. They want it. And
then in Missouri. They haven't said much about where in Missouri.
They just know that it is in Missouri. So again,
those two winners can each take eight hundred and ninety
five million dollars in annuity over twenty nine years, or
they could just say, hey, give me four to ten
point three million dollars lump sum before taxes.
Speaker 3 (02:19):
Fredericksburg, just near Austin, just north of San Antonio.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
Okay, that's where it is. I'm sure there's plenty of
things in that area you can spend that money on.
But yes, in a weird way, I was hoping it
would keep going, just to see how big the actual
powerball jackpot could get. But again, this is still one
of the biggest ever. And I did look into it,
just because I'm it's not my business. I understand privacy.
If I was ever the winner, I would want to
(02:44):
hope I could remain anonymous, just because I think you
have a much better chance that things working out for
you without it. Being such a public thing. But we
won't find out who these people are unless they want
us to find out, because both Missouri and Texas or
states that will allow you to remain anonymous. And it
turns out there are still many states that don't allow
you to be anonymous. And it's been some years back,
(03:08):
but there was somebody I believe in South Carolina that
won and it was a long legal battle where the
clock was ticking as far as he didn't claim the prize.
Because he didn't, he was trying to find a legal
way to not be to not be public about it.
And maybe there was closure within that story and I
just missed it. But the more it became a story
(03:28):
that he was just trying as hard as he can
to fight it being public, but yet it was life
changing money for anybody, regardless of how rich you are.
He just it almost made me feel like I gotta
know what this guy's either, you know what I mean,
Like some people just want to be private, but like
you know, there's if it's gonna give. If I'm gonna
you know, put millions of dollars in my bank account,
and all I got to do is say, hey, it's me.
(03:49):
I want I mean, I wouldn't want to do it,
but it'd be worth it.
Speaker 3 (03:52):
Well, could you imagine, like in the small town to
like say Fredericksberg, and somebody's holding onto this ticket, there's
that law until you can get to the lot of
commissioned cashing that ticket. I mean, can you imagine how
fragile that thing must feel.
Speaker 1 (04:04):
I mean I wouldn't. I would give it to my
wife and say, look if I if I see this,
I'm it's gonna give me a panic attack just thinking
if I lose this, it's all exactly all over.
Speaker 3 (04:14):
Would you sign it immediately because they say you should
sign it?
Speaker 1 (04:17):
Probably, yeah, especially with the stories you hear about, you know,
getting lost or somebody claiming this or that. So yeah, So.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
I'd leave it in my pocket and then my wife
would do the wash and I'd go, did you.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
Happen in there? Not a lottery ticket but with other things. Yeah,
I got to again, this was one of the biggest
checkbots they've had, so it makes sense. But it did
start to turn into you know, anywhere you were, you
heard people chatting about you see how big you see
how the big power ball is now? And I love
everybody's already thinking what they're going to spend it on.
So hey, I guess be prepared, right, You never know
(04:49):
if you do win, at least you you know, if
you've got an idea what you want to do. But
uh yeah, two people are going to share one point
eight billion dollars roughly in Powerball winning, So congratulations to them. Wow,
all right, let's have a Monday, shall we. Guys, We've
got a lot to get to and of course we'll
get you caught up on traffic and weather. We've got
your forecast coming up in just a moment with WLK WIS,
Matt Melosavich Bobby Ellis will tell us how the roadways
(05:10):
are looking again as we get a week started. Here
it is Coffee and Company Kentucky had his morning news
with you on news Radio eight forty whas it sure
is Monday five sixteen, here on a Monday morning and
news Radio eight forty whas Coffee and Company with you,
And I'm good right now. I'm feeling good to get
the week started. I was doubtful that the energy would
(05:34):
be here, but it's here. But today's gonna be one
of those days where I just I know it's coming
I'm gonna pay for being up very late last night,
not just for being up late, you know, for for
I mean, it was later than usual, like I'm running
on a couple hours sleep, which who knows, maybe maybe
this is just all I need to get me through
the day. But yeah, last night's Bill's Ravens game. I mean,
(05:58):
I didn't plan on standing up to watch the thing,
and then of course we got a game that probably
will end up being one of the best regular season
games of the season. I mean, I mean, who knows.
There's a lot of football to be played, right, it's
just Week one, But that game overall, I mean, was
just non stop entertainment. A lot of points scored, and
the Ravens of course had themselves a nice lead, but
(06:21):
it never felt like I know, the announcers kept discussing
the game as if any big play wherether it be
a Derrick Henry big Old run for a touchdown because
he had a couple of those, certainly, or Lamar Jackson
when he found Zay Flowers maybe early in the third quarter.
I mean, the announcers kept acting as if that was
going to be like the death blow for the Bills.
(06:42):
But I mean, I don't know if they were watching
the same game. The Bills kept scoring two, I mean,
and then of course all it took was the Ravens
having a three and out and then a fumble from
Derrick Henry, and then the Bills pulled off what was
honestly one of the more impressive come from behind victories
you'll see. I mean, I'm pretty sure the Bills became, yeah,
the first team in NFL history to be down fifteen
(07:04):
plus points with under four minutes left and win the
game in regulation. So hell of a hell of a game. Obviously,
if you're a Ravens fan, I imagine you feel really good
about how good your team can be because I think
those two teams, I mean, it's hard hard to not
believe those are two of the best teams you're going
to see in the NFL this year. Again, there's some
other good teams, I mean, the Packers looked phenomenal yesterday,
(07:26):
so hell of a game. But if you're a Ravens fan,
probably probably one that you're you're probably still bummed about
this morning. And I mean, I maybe I'm just being
the protective Louisville fan here because I don't really, I
don't really think that, like Lamar Jackson had a game
that you could look back and say, I mean, you
know he can't win the big winner or he I mean,
I mean literally just came down. It was a shootout,
(07:47):
and the Henry fumble, it just it. It gave Buffalo
a chance to uh to quickly strike they did, and
then of course that drive to get it in Veield
goal range. I mean, that was impressive. That's about Josh
Allen's one of the best in the game. And that's
why the Bills are from some years now a team
that people just know is right there. I mean, if
they break through it actually win a Super Bowl in
(08:09):
the next couple of years. I mean, that shouldn't shock
anybody because their window has kind of been in the
now for quite some time. And I don't know, the
Bills used to be one of the biggest jokes in
the NFL. I mean, I know, they have some history
and they've made the Super Bowl many times. In fact,
I think they have the record for going was it
three times in a row consecutively four times four times
(08:30):
and not winning. But for a good chunk of my life,
the Bills were about as irrelevant as any team in
the NFL, and they became this team that was pretty
good at like making fun of themselves, right, they can
laugh at themselves. They like to throw themselves through tables,
and their fans tailgate like nobody else. But now they're
really good. And that was the heck of a game
(08:52):
last night. Friday feels like such a long time ago.
But Loebell, of course they were able to move to
two and oh after a a real close call against
James Madison. Kind of right, I really don't there's one
of those mornings where I'm happy I don't have to
try to figure out a way to assess that one
because you won by two scores. Technically you covered because
(09:12):
of what the spread was. I believe it kickoff, but
if you got it early, you probably didn't cover. But nonetheless,
kind of a hard game to really know if that
was a step forward, if that was what everybody expected,
maybe it was a step back. I mean, I guess
you could. You know, all depends on I guess how
you want to look at it as a fan. But
(09:33):
I'm just club it didn't lose James Madison because that
could have really really deflated momentum this season for Jeff
Brom and they didn't lose. They won again by two touchdowns,
but it really never felt like that one was I
guess the last touchdown level got really felt as if
they'd put it away and it was going to be
a victory for Jeff Brom and his team. But nonetheless
a game that was certainly very competitive and close early
(09:56):
on to where I don't think people are wrong when
they say that James Madison my might have you know,
might have actually outplayed Lovell for a good chunk of
that game. And then with Kentucky we'll talk and by
the way, we'll talk more about this throughout the morning
with both the local teams. Kentucky loses to Ole Miss.
But if I'm Kentucky, I mean, I don't I don't
feel any if you thought this was going to be
a game where, you know, you get blown out and
(10:17):
it really seems as if the season was going to
fall apart even worse than last year, that it isn't.
That isn't at all what happened. I mean, they were
competitive and it was a close game. Now, with that said,
I'm not sure if if Kentucky fans can look at
their team and feel as if they're going to be,
you know, win a bunch of ball games this year
because obviously they've got a tough schedule and offensively they're
a nightmare. I mean, that's that's the I mean, they
(10:39):
had a couple of drives that were not disastrous, but overall,
I mean Mark stoops and and offense just don't don't
work well together and doesn't matter what coordinator he has,
it just isn't. Uh. In a good begin we'll talk
more sports throughout the morning. In fact, we get a
sports a bit coming your way here in just a moment.
But let's talk about Draft Kings Sportsbook. Shall we Your season?

Katucky in this morning news news Radio eight forty Whas
(12:21):
take us with you wherever you go. Listen live on
the iHeartRadio app. Also listen live at whas dot com.
Do you want to remind you you can also listen
on your on your Roku, your smart tv. I know
there are TVs that have the built in smart TV technology,
and then of course you can plug in a rokup
a fire stick. But if you have or you can
get apps on your television, you can downloa the out
(12:42):
Radio app there. So again, I guess when I think
of the out Radio app, I still just think of
it being on your on my phone, but you can
also download it elsewhere, including on Roku. And I mentioned
that last week that one of my family member said
they started listening to the show that way, and I
had two other people reach out and say, hey, that's
how I listened too. So however you're listening, wherever you're listening,
we certainly do appreciate you. There's gonna be a lot
(13:02):
of people showing up in Louisville this week for this
weekend because Bourbon and Beyond is here, and this is
something that I did not know was the thing, but
I gotta admit I think it's I think it's pretty cool.
So right now you can sign up and apply to
be a volunteer at Bourbon and Beyond picking up trash
(13:24):
at the event. And I guess you can also sign
up to do it after, like meaning days after it's over,
and you can then get in if you if you're
able to get through. It sounds like you get in,
you get in free. So yeah, so what they're they're
looking for people to commit to ten hours total, two
five hour shifts, one early, one late. You got to
pick up litter, you got to pick up the picnic
(13:45):
tables that are set up out there, recycling sorting, venue
sweep support. That's what's listed here at the website. But
so it'll be Thursday through Sunday. You've got shifts that'll
be from one thirty to six thirty, and then a
shift from six to eleven and if you get through,
you get to experience the music festival for free. Now again,
you're working, so you can't enjoy it like others, but
(14:08):
it sure beats I guess paying whatever it is to
actually to get in and look, I don't even know
the price, but I would imagine it's probably not so
surprising to folks given the fact that this music festival
has seemingly become stronger and stronger every single year. Would
you be able to enjoy music Festival, John, if you
were there just kind of listening along but also like picking.
Speaker 2 (14:29):
Up trash man. Maybe if it was a day where
I wasn't as invested in watching the acts, maybe that
sort of thing. If it's just a day that was
kind of ho hummed to me. But I'm the kind
of person that wants to be locked in for the
full twelve hour day.
Speaker 1 (14:44):
It's one of those things where like, if that's your
job and it happens to meeting, like that's what you
do for events at facilities, you know, let's just say,
let's just act like the Highlands Festival Grounds is a
venue that hosts all kinds of events, which last I checked,
I don't really think that it does. I think it's
just for this. But anyways, and you had a boring
event come through where it was just something that you
(15:05):
know wouldn't interest you. This is an example of Okay,
well I gotta go to work. At least they get
to listen to all these great bands. But yeah, as
far as like, hey, I'll go because I'm gonna then
pick up trash, I mean, I'm sure some people would
do it, but for me, like it would change the
experience so much that it wouldn't really feel like I
was doing something for fun. I would still feel like work.
But hey, you can sign up. Here's the website. If
(15:27):
you want to get more info, you can go to
let's see well yeah, clean vibes dot volunteerlocal dot com.
So this is the clean Vibes program. And you do
have to pay a thirty dollars non refundable application fee,
and then there's a two hundred and seventy two hundred
and seventy dollars refundable deposit to secure your spot, which
(15:49):
I don't quite understand that. I guess maybe it's that
they're giving you like they're gonna give you a pass,
is a pass to get in and you've gotta, I
guess give them a a deposit, and I don't understand
the deposit process. But again, I know a lot of
people would love to go to this and they don't
because of the price and whatnot. So maybe this gives
you a chance to get there and experience it. You
(16:11):
also get a custom volunteered T shirt. And then you
also get raffle entries for VP upgrades for twenty twenty
six tickets, and you don't have to pay the park.
So I'm curious to see what kind of response they
get from this, because again, it really wouldn't appease me.
But I'm not somebody that even if I had free
tickets and I didn't have to pick up trash music
(16:32):
festivals just aren't necessarily my jam. But I'm sure others
would say, heck, yeah, this gives me a chance to
experience it, and I don't mind picking up some trash
along the way. Who's the biggest name this year for
Bourbon to be on. I know, usually there's like there's
like three or four headliners that are usually kind of
collectively the big names.
Speaker 2 (16:49):
I'd say that the biggest draw and it's it's kind
of an interesting one. It's Fish, and it's just because
they have a weird I hate call them a weird
fan base. They have a fan base that will travel
to see them multiple times a year anywhere in the country.
Speaker 1 (17:02):
This is one of those things where when you say it,
I don't think it'll ever sound endearing, but I don't
mean it in any other way than just being the truth.
They have a cult following.
Speaker 2 (17:10):
Yes, that's you know, there's no bigger group in music
that has a cult like following than Fish.
Speaker 4 (17:17):
I feel like.
Speaker 1 (17:17):
Because it's not like, yeah, they've just they've attracted fans
that just are loyal to them. And again I sound
like I'm being judging and not but because it's credit
credit to Fish and if you like Fish, heck yeah.
But yeah, they just have a unique following. So therefore,
when I see Fish on a on a headlining list,
I'm not thinking anything other than oh, yeah, I get it,
(17:39):
they're pretty big, but there are people who will travel
a long way to come and see them because they
have a name like the the Pair of Fish, the
fish Heads. Yeah. So well, I feel like Noah Khan
is one of those. He's one of the more popular
new or out Yes, like right, now they're getting him
in a good time, and of course Stergil Simpson Kentucky's
own the Lumineer's Jack White. But then you get you
(18:00):
down a little bit below those bigger names there. I mean,
I know Benson Boone has become a big name in
recent years. You've got Goo Goo Dolls, which of course
is nostalgic for me. So yeah, big weekend coming up
here in Louisville as the Bourbon and Beyond Festival gets
started on Thursday. And again, if you want to volunteer
to pick up trash at the event, you can, you can,
you can do that, but of course that gets you
(18:21):
in for free. To enjoy it. Now you have to apply.
And again the website to do that is Clean Vibes
dot volunteerlocal dot com. All right, let's get a check
off trafficking weather. Bobby Elison tell us how the roadways
are looking here on Monday morning, and we've got Rory
o'eil set to join us coming up here on the
other side right here on news Radio eight forty whas.
Good Monday morning, Kentucky, Enna, thanks for hanging out with
(18:42):
us here at news Radio eight forty whas Coffee and
Company with you Kentucky inn this Morning News, and we
are joined now by Rory O'Neal and Rory, I'm looking
forward to discussing the baseball caring with you because she
has been all that social media seems to be talking about.
As she demanded that a file or hand over a
home run baseball that he snagged for his son on
(19:04):
his birthday, and she wasn't happy about it. Let everybody
know about it who was at the game, and of
course the internet found out about it and it spread
like crazy. What do we know about this individual who
has now been seen by millions upon millions of people.
Speaker 4 (19:18):
Yeah, Philly's Karen is I think the name m I've
seen the most. But you know, we don't really know
her actual name yet. There's been a lot of speculation.
Some people were misidentified as Phillies Karen, but there was
actually a school district in New Jersey that had to say, no,
she doesn't work for us, never has And by the way,
school workers in Jersey would have caught that ball bare handed.
(19:41):
That's the way to take out out of it. So, yeah,
we don't really know much about her now. The dad
Drew feltwell has been pretty public, telling his story to
several media outlets, saying that he just went to the
game for his son's tenth birthday that's happening this week,
had the whole family out for the game at Lone
Depot Park there in Miami. And you know, look, he
(20:02):
got the ball fair and square, it looked like to
most of us anyway. But when Philly's Karen approached, essentially
he caved and gave her to the ball to de
escalate the situation.
Speaker 1 (20:11):
Yeah, I mean talk about lack of awareness and just
seeming to not think at all that I mean, she
felt entitled to that baseball, and and I guess she
she probably didn't care. Maybe she didn't think, but the
way she was reacting, you would assume that she she
thought everybody would assume that she was clearly that should
be hers, which again everybody else clearly saw different. But
you got me thinking something that I hadn't really thought
(20:32):
about when it comes to these people that go viral
with with somebody that just happens to pull out a
cell phone as they're becoming unhinged and acting in a
way that they probably hopefully they hoped they would never
act like that. But to be misidentified as one of
those people would be a bad look.
Speaker 4 (20:48):
Right, Oh gosh, I mean yeah, there's you know, she's
had to the one woman. I won't repeat her name
just to not throw her under it. But yeah, she's
on her Facebook paid like it all red saying I'm
a Red Sox fan and likely I wasn't there.
Speaker 1 (21:02):
I understand wanting to defend yourself, right.
Speaker 4 (21:04):
Right, yeah, so you know, and yeah, but you also
asked the question, well, what if this Phillies Karen does
lose her job or whatever, like, does she get to
sue somebody? And like, I don't she didn't do anything illegal, right,
And it's uh, yeah, I'm being a jerk.
Speaker 1 (21:21):
She was just the way it seems.
Speaker 4 (21:23):
Right, and that's not illegal necessarily.
Speaker 1 (21:25):
You are correct. Royalty liv INBC News is our guest
joining us here on news radio eight forty. Whas So,
there was a massive immigration raid uh late last week
as hundreds of South Koreans are headed home after a
raid by ice at the Hundai factory in Georgia. What
does this mean as far as the relations with with
Soul and how's the administration expected to respond? And I
(21:45):
do believe as far as the total number this seemed
to be one of the biggest raids that that that
we've seen in recent months.
Speaker 4 (21:52):
It was about four hundred and seventy five people were
actually swept up in this raid that happened near Savannah, Georgia.
It was a place where a brand new car battery
manufacturing site was being put was being constructed, So most
of the people in the arrests were actually sub contractors
who are building this new facility that's going to be
(22:13):
run by Hyundai and LG. But now South Korean officials
are coming to the US saying, hey, look, this is
part of what we're trying to negotiate. You know, every
time we hear another country or businesses they're going to
have a six hundred billion dollar plant here and they're
doing a trillion dollars there. Whatever that is like, there
also have to be some foreign representatives that come with
that company. Right, it may only be ten, maybe twenty,
(22:37):
it's not going to be. It shouldn't be the four
hundred and seventy five we saw arrested here. But those
visa negotiations are also part of the talks as they
try to put together some of these big trade packages,
because you know, Let's be realistic. If you own the
company in South Korea, you don't want one hundred percent
of the staffing to be American, right, you want some
of your representation on the ground. But exactly what that
(22:59):
number is up for debate now. In this case, it
was clearly just about everyone there was from the country,
from South Korea and not properly permitted to be here.
So this is part of the negotiation South Korea. Bit
offended that all this ended up on social media and
they're doing hype videos about the raid rather than trying
to address the underlying issues.
Speaker 1 (23:20):
Rory has always appreciate the time. Enjoy the rest of
your day. We'll talk tomorrow. Thanks Nick, talk to you then,

here that I am super excited about. Later this month
on September twenty seventh, the Jefson Animal Hospital and Regional
Emergency Center, they're going to be having the second annual
Pints for Pause in People events. So what this is,

it's an opportunity for you to come and donate blood
yourself to the American Red Cross, but you can also
have your dogs or cats donate blood as well, which

(24:25):
going to be again at Jefferson Animal Hospital Saturday, September
twenty seventh. It's at their outer Loop location. That's five
