Speaker 1 (00:00):
It is seven oh five here on a Monday morning,
Kentucky and This Morning News, Coffee and Company with you,
take us with you wherever you go. You can listen
live on the iHeartRadio app. Also listen live at whas
dot com. Hopefully you had yourselves a good weekend. We
had some good weather and I know I certainly enjoyed it.
It looked like we were going to get some real
rain on Saturday, and I guess maybe we did briefly.

(00:21):
I know I was up early. My daughter had her
first fall ball game with the Miracle League of Louisville,
which was awesome, and it started sprinkling right as we
got started about ten am, and then the rain went away,
and wherever I was throughout the day it was nice out.
And then of course yesterday absolutely beautiful. So I have
not even looked at what the forecast is for this weekend,

(00:42):
but I'm hopeful that it's solid, considering we've got a
lot of people coming to Louisville for the Bourbon and
Beyond Music Festival, so it will get started this Thursday,
and Thursday features the Lumineers, Benson Boone, Alabama Shakes, Cage
the Elephant Collective Soul, Pat bennettar and us. I mean,
I feel like they're getting some big names right out

(01:03):
of the gate to get it started.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
And I mean the Lumineers.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
Maybe again I'm tear I am if you can't tell
I'm spinning my wheels here because like I was gonna say, oh,
like the Lumineers, you would think they but like maybe
I'm way off here, Like maybe they had their momentum
a few years ago and now there has beens. I
doubt that that's the case because again their headliners here
at this big time music festival. But I can I
can be someone that just doesn't necessarily keep up with

(01:28):
the latest trends in music or really much of anything
in the music world, but still know that the Bourbon
and Beyond Music Festival is awesome for the city of Louisville.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
So looking forward to it.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
So Stergil Simpson and Noah Khan Fish Lumineers. Safe to
say those are like the four biggest names.

Speaker 3 (01:49):
Maybe yeah, of course, based on the fact that they
are the headliners for each day. You got Fish on
Friday already mentioned Lumineers on Thursday. Stergl Simpson takes the
Saturday spot and then Noah Khan will end things on
Sunday night.

Speaker 1 (02:01):
Yeah, so I mean those those are some big names,
but I mean the Goo Goo Dolls. I don't know
if they even make new music or if they're just
still touring playing the great hits they had when they
were at their peak, but they're awesome. They're gonna be
on Sunday. I don't have any plans to go, but
if I was going to pick a time to go,
it would be then, just because you know, I like
the Googoo Dolls.

Speaker 3 (02:22):
You've also got Foreigner and Gin Blossoms on Sunday, that'd
be That might be the day that if I was
choosing to go to Bourbon, and beyond that, I'd want
to go to as well.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
And then there's also going to be some special appearances
by Elizabeth Banks with Unscripted and Uncorked and Jim Gaffigan
with the Bourbon Fueled Comedy Special. So you're going to
see You're going to see folks that are there not
just to perform music, but some other stuff too. So yeah,
this event has been awesome for years and it seems
to only be getting getting up, bigger and better. And

(02:51):
if you want to attend, but you don't have the
money to pay for a ticket, you can volunteer to
be somebody that that that picks up trash. So here
here's what if you don't I talk about it a
little bit earlier. I make sure I have the right
the right website. So clean Vibes dot volunteerlocal dot com
is where you can go and you can apply to

(03:12):
be somebody to volunteer to pick up trash.

Speaker 2 (03:16):
Clean up.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
The picnic tables help with the recycling efforts, and there
are four different sorry for the four days. There are
two different shifts each day. That's one thirty to six
thirty pm and then six pm to eleven pm. That's
those two schedules each of the four days. And with
this you you commit a total of twelve hours. And
again it's just venue wide cleanup and recycling. And you

(03:40):
also get a free T shirt, you get free parking,
and also you get access to festival shows after shifted.
So again if you come and you work, you get
so yeah, you're if you're there before the event, Okay,
that this makes way more sense.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
So if you're there.

Speaker 1 (03:56):
Before picking up before it starts, then they're just gonna
let you stick around and stay all day. That would
be the best shift to get if you can actually,
if you can actually pull it off.

Speaker 2 (04:03):
But yeah, they'll they'll hook you up.

Speaker 1 (04:06):
And I'm sure there are many that say, hey, I
won't mind picking up trash, won't be so bad if
I'm listening to one of my favorite one of my
favorite bands. So again, the website to go sign up
for that if you're interested is clean vibes dot. Just
had it in front of me. Here we go clean
vibes Dot volunteer local dot com. I just went to
the website. It's super easy. You put it all your

(04:27):
info and again you can you can potentially.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
See this entire this entire music festival.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
I guess, maybe not the entirety of it, but nonetheless,
the only thing you gotta pay is thirty dollars to apply,
but it is non refundable, so I guess if you
apply and you pay thirty bucks you don't get it.
That would really would feel like a real big waste
of money. I mean, here I am touting this program,
but like in that kind of aim, they're gonna let
you apply to be a volunteer for thirty bucks and

(04:54):
then they like may not even let you volunteer.

Speaker 3 (04:57):
I guess if you just try to if they think
you're just gonna cop a couple tickets not do the job,
they want to kind of make sure you're fit to
do what they're asking for.

Speaker 1 (05:05):
Yeah, so if it's non refundable, like I don't know,
like you're paying to work essentially though I mean, yes,
clearly the price of the ticket's worth more than thirty bucks.
But yeah, the whole non refundable application fee kind of
gets me because, yeah, that's a little silky and it
makes me think that they're not going to turn anybody away.
But anyways, big week here in Louisville, really big two
weeks because we've got a lotter than life next week.

(05:28):
All Right, if you are a parent out there and
you feel like it's become a lot more expensive to
you know, be a parent, you're right. We'll get to
some of those numbers coming up here on the other side.
And I do want to talk a little bit about
the football from of the weekend, both Louisville and Kentucky.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
So stick with us right here.

Speaker 1 (05:42):
It is Coffee and Company Kentucky and is Morning News
with You on News Radio eight forty whas sometimes when
it comes to these surveys that we get, I am
surprised by the results, wondering how they who they asked right, Like,
I feel like I can't relate. This is not one
of those though, because I don't want to act like
things are terrible for me, because they're not.

Speaker 2 (06:03):
I'm still very fortunate.

Speaker 1 (06:04):
But obviously everything's expensive and includes things that you know
you pay for when you're a parent. And there's a
new survey that just highlights how overwhelming parenting can be,
not just emotionally, but from a financial perspective. So the
financial strain on parents is a real thing right now.
Seventy one percent of parents with kids under eighteen feel
overwhelmed by financial responsibilities, compared to fifty four percent of nonparents.

(06:28):
So eighty three percent say the cost of raising kids
has gotten quote out of control and overspending and social
pressure too. I guess overspend is a factor. Seventy seven
percent of parents feel pressure to spend more than they
should to keep up with other families. Eighty percent say
social media and parenting influencers increase financial anxiety, And this

(06:51):
survey says seventy two percent of parents admit parental guilt
leads to overspending on their kids. I won't try to
give anybody any advice on how to be a parent,
but I I can totally see social media being the
fuel that leads to your overspending. And you may not
even realize it because if you go back to a

(07:13):
different time before I was around, maybe you know, maybe
maybe for the listeners, maybe when you were when you
were raising your kids, or maybe when you were a
kid yourself, we didn't know what we didn't know, you know,
when it comes to keeping up with the Joneses, if
you will, it wasn't in your face every five seconds

(07:33):
when you pull out your device. It was I mean,
your access to what other people were doing was when
you turned on your television and there wasn't eight hundred
channels streaming platforms. It was just whatever was on TV.
And you couldn't just find whatever you want. You watched
what was playing live because that's just the way things were.
The Internet wasn't a thing. So you would see a

(07:56):
celebrity on TV and you would just for the most part,
probably know, yeah, I don't need to be living up
to that standard because I'm not a movie star. Well now,
we have access to so much and it can't do
anything but hurt those that are, I guess, easily influenced
by what others are doing and feel like they need
to have what they see their peer has on their

(08:20):
social media page as far as an outfit for their
kids or something like that.

Speaker 2 (08:23):
So I just think it's it's just unfortunately how we're
wired now.

Speaker 1 (08:27):
But if you don't know what you don't know, you're
not thinking about, like it's not in your face every
day that you need to be comparing yourself to this
person or that person. So yeah, this doesn't surprise me
any bit. And look, you want to do right by
your kids. You want to get them whatever, you want
to give them everything right, but that's not realistic. And

(08:48):
I'm sure there are many that run into financial troubles
because they just couldn't say no, not only to get
in their kid like a toy or something, but just
you know, even certain things like going to a camp
or something like been there yet hopefully we never are,
but like I would hate to say, we can't afford
to send this, and I know you want to go,
and when you're a young kid, you don't You don't
get it right, you don't understand why. I mean, I'm

(09:10):
sure you're told, hey, sorry, buddy, just didn't in the
cards for you because of money. But that would be
I mean I could I could see a parent having
to do that, and that would be it would break
your heart. So yeah, I don't know when there's going
to be anything that changes this for the better, But
not at all surprised to see that many parents think
that it's gotten out of control when it comes to
raising kids. All right, we've got another update of traffick

(09:33):
and weather coming your way here and just just a moment.
But before we do that, I do want to talk
to you guys about about my friend Bob Sekohler. Look,
when it comes to buying and selling a home, I
mean obviously that's something that that is a process. Right
you need a trained professional and it has never been
more important than right now when it comes to having

(09:56):
somebody that you can trust, somebody that's on your side.
So there's nothing more frustrating when you've been through this
process and you hire the wrong agent only to watch
your properties sit on the market with little to no
interest until the listings eventually expire. That's the worst. And
if that's something you've experienced before. I'm here to tell
you need to work with Bob Sicolor and the Colar
team with Remax Properties East because if you've ever been

(10:18):
lucky enough to work with them, then you know. Because
you don't end up with nearly a billion dollars in business,
you don't end up with countless five star Google reviews
unless you're taking care of customers in that process. So
don't just assume there's there's something wrong with your house
and that's why it's not selling my good From Bob
Siculer and its team. They market properties to thousands of

(10:40):
buyers every month, creating demand for homes just like yours.
They've got proven strategies that will get your property in
front of the most qualified buyers, helping you get the
top dollar out of your home. So you can give
Bob a call of five oh two three seven six live.
That's five O two three seven six five four eight three.
Visit Bob's website. We sell Louisville dot com or just
Google user team that.

Speaker 2 (11:00):
Says okay o l er it is seven thirty five year.

Speaker 1 (11:06):
On a Monday morning, Kentucky in This Morning News Coffee
and Company with you here on news Radio eight forty whas.
I got to be honest, I think this might be
my favorite time of the year. We've got the NFL
going on in Week one is not even over. We
got money in football tonight, and of course college football.
We're now two weeks in and on Friday night, I
thought Louisville looked I mean, let's just put it this way,

(11:30):
I hope JMU ends up actually being really really.

Speaker 2 (11:32):
Good because they were physical. They just looked bigger.

Speaker 1 (11:36):
They were the aggressor, and it really, I think as
a fan just depends on how you want to look
at it. Do you think, okay, hey, it didn't matter
if JMU is good for JMU, if we're the team
we think we are and think that we can compete
towards the top of the ACC, you shouldn't let a
team come in and just kind of physically, I wouldn't say,
have their way with you. But again, they were the aggressor,

(11:58):
and Louisville benefited, I think majorly from JMU having two quarterbacks,
because if you're somebody that believes if you have two
and you play too, then you don't really have one
that's worth worthwhile. That was an example of it. I
think on Friday and where Louisville was able to create
some separation in the fourth quarter and get out of
there with a two touchdown victory, was because they had

(12:19):
two really explosive plays. And it's nice to have a
guy like Isaac Brown because he's special. I think Isaac
Brown can do that against anybody. Now, maybe not put
up those exact numbers, but Isaac Brown getting loose for
a touchdown of sixty yards or more or whatever it
may be, that's going to be something you see pretty routinely.
I mean not to say every drive, but I mean
he's capable of that. He is one of the best
running backs in the country, and it's nice to have him.

(12:42):
Same thing with Chris Bell, who had a big catch
and scored a touchdown that helped kind of put Louisll
over the edge. So it's nice to have those guys.
But I just for me, I think, Okay, when you
play a team that's not a JMU, are you going
to be able to just rely on guys can plays
because they're just that talented and that puts you over
the top. Now, maybe jmu's roster is middle of the pack.

(13:06):
Acc who knows. If that's the case, I would say
that's not a good sign for the ACC. And I
don't even mean that it's a disrespect to James Madison.
It's just they're they're in the Sun Belt and they
are somewhat brand new to FBS, if I'm being honest
with you. So anyways, the head coach, I don't need

(13:27):
to pick on this guy because you know, I don't
know him, and he may be a nice guy. But
last week I referenced that he was already talking about
the price of Louisville's roster, and he's probably not wrong
to point out that Louisville has an aisle money because
they're an ACEC program, and when you are at that level,
you need to have money to go play player, to

(13:48):
go pay players, because that's just how it works now.
So with that, I mean, it's a known thing. But
when you're praising your opponent ahead of time and you
throw that in there, to me, that's just the weak
that you already realize.

Speaker 2 (14:01):
You don't have.

Speaker 1 (14:02):
You know, you don't have the horses to compete, essentially,
So he's not the only coach that does it, but
it's just started to irritate me because you know, Mike
Gunny did it last week before they went to Oka
to Oregon and they got dusted.

Speaker 2 (14:13):
By the way.

Speaker 1 (14:14):
But it's just to me, it's like it's a it's
an insecurity thing that you got through out there because
you just know your team's not as good. But here's
the thing, money or no money, Louisvill would still have
built in advantages to you because you're James Madison. That's
just the way it's always been. This isn't new. It's
just a new element to what has already existed, which
is the food chain in college sports. But after the game,

(14:35):
I mean, this is this is such a loser quote
And I don't mean he's a loser as a person,
but I mean this is Bob Chesney after Louisville beat
his team twenty eight to fourteen on Friday night.

Speaker 2 (14:48):
Quote.

Speaker 1 (14:48):
Louis' is a good team. They're gonna win a lot
of games. We all understand that. But at some point
in time, this is a game that we lost. I
don't feel like they won. I feel like we lost
this game. They did not win it, and that's on me.
I mean, maybe I'm overreacting, but I feel like if
this was any other coach that like people knew who

(15:09):
he was and he coached at a you know, a
school that people know, that would be it would it
wouldn't lead the headlines of college football's Week two. But
like that's a loser thing to say, Like if I
was a fan of James Madison, I would I would
get out of here with that, Like I mean in
that way, like if if that's truly the way you

(15:31):
see it. And I'm sure he's just emphasizing this game specifically,
but you know you could go zero to twelve. But
I mean, look, we didn't lose those games or that
they didn't know, none of our opponents won.

Speaker 2 (15:40):
We just we just lost it.

Speaker 1 (15:41):
Like I mean again, it's and by the way, they
lost but two touchdowns, right, like they were right there
all throughout. They did have a lead at halftime, so
like it's not like he's wrong that they were competing,
but like you ended up giving up two huge plays,
your offense couldn't move the ball because you don't know
what you want to do at quarter. But I just
thought that was I would like to be able to

(16:03):
root for James Madison and say, hey, good on them.
Because if they compete and they you know, they end
up being pretty good, it'll make louisvill look good.

Speaker 2 (16:10):
And again I probably will be rooting for that. But
that just that was a turnoff.

Speaker 1 (16:15):
But now Louis was gonna buy a week and we
wait for them to get back out next Saturday, not
this upcoming Saturday. And look, I don't want to sound
like such a complainer, but I really don't like the
way the schedules set up this year because Louis Louis
was going to be about a month into the season
before you really have any clue what to make of them,
and you can really convince yourself whatever you want at
this point, I suppose. All right, we've got traving weather

(16:37):
updates coming up, so don't go anywhere, keep in luck
with us right here.

Speaker 2 (16:40):
On news Radio eight forty whas.

Speaker 1 (16:44):
So, we do have some breaking news on something we've
talked about here and there over the last few weeks,
and that is the Howard Stern situation with Sirius XM.
As it has it has been announced this morning that
he has abruptly departed Sirius XM so after nearly two
decks aids with the company. It is it is over.
So this announcement comes with what has really just been

(17:07):
a weird situation. For lack of a better word, I mean,
no big sendoff, no on air farewell, because to me,
it seems pretty clearly that they were working through something
and it now has been proven they couldn't work They
couldn't work it out because you remember, there was the
unofficial It wasn't a report, it was just a rumor
that everybody just ran with and nobody disputed it. But

(17:28):
that's what made people think it was a hoax that
he was that he was going to be out at
Series XM, and I guess the motive for the hoax
would be that it would be a talking point. Wow,
can you believe it? No way, Howard Stern out at
Serious XM, and then he would surprise people that he's back,
and he would come back with new energy and be
motivated and didn't work out that way because it's over.

(17:52):
So he is seventy one. I gotta be honest, I
didn't realize he was that old. I know he was older,
but seventy one. And he's clearly one of the most
respected people in radio, really one of the most respected interviewers.
Of any platform, and it was a big deal. I
mean I was young, but I remember realizing Howard Stern
as leaving radio to go do serious satellite radio, and

(18:14):
sure enough he did it for nearly twenty years. But yeah,
he's you go back to just his his peak. I mean,
I feel like when they were making when they were
making movies about him, and it was ninety seven when
he had he had the film that he co wrote

(18:35):
Private Parts. I mean, I don't even know what you
would consider the like the peak of Stern, because I
think you could look mean before that, he was still
a big name, even before the you know, the movie
and the book and whatnot. And then of course the
time that he moved to Serrius XM. I mean, that
was that was because he knew he had the power
that at that point wherever he went people were gonna
listen because he just had that he commanded that type

(18:57):
of listenership. And then really in recent years, since since
around twenty nineteen, it's kind of just it's.

Speaker 2 (19:03):
Fell off pretty quickly.

Speaker 1 (19:03):
And look, some of it is because he's probably mailed
it in a little bit, and he's not what he
was when people fell in love with his show. And
their style and made it a part of their everyday routine.
So that's a factor. But also Serious XM is losing
subscribers not just because of him and that show, but

(19:24):
because people can now listen to whatever they want, whenever
they want. But it says here that Serious XM's subscriber
base has been shrinking down one hundred thousand year over
year to thirty three million in a Q two of
this year, which to me that still sounds like quite
a bit. But you know, Howard Stern was making a

(19:44):
lot of money. So here's what I'm curious to see
at seventy one. Does he does he does disappear and
just live his life and retire and chill or is
he somebody that wants to go out out on top,
wants his legacy to be and his legacy is going
to be phenomenal as far as just his career, but

(20:07):
obviously the latter years, if this is it not great
for him. But I just don't know, you know, does
he have the energy? I would imagine he's not hurting
for money, but with with what podcasts can do now
and with what his brand is, I mean, if he
decided he's launching his own podcast, and he's going to

(20:29):
do his own thing independently one thousand percent, just like
Joe Rogan. I don't know if he'd ever have the
audience that Rogan has, because what Rogan is built is insane.
I mean, it is unbelievable the amount of people who
who listen to his podcast. And he's he's I mean,
he's kind of in his own lane, in his own world. Really,
so Starn probably wouldn't get that, but I mean he would.

(20:51):
He could continue to do you know, spoken word content
and be just fine. But again, he could be just fine,
probably just retiring because and he's Howard Stern. All right,
real quick, let's talk about the Litverle Men's Clinic. Showey fellas,
listen up. They can help you, they help me. And
one thing I have not mentioned enough when I talk
about our great partners over there at the Lotble Men's

(21:11):
Clinic is it's not just testosterone. Where they can help
you if you've got low tee. They have a variety
of ways of helping you with the rectile dysfunction, and
they will also guarantee that it works, meaning if you
don't perform, you don't pay. But they can also help
you lose weight. And I know somebody that has gone
through the lois of Men's Clinic and they started with
the weight loss therapy and they were getting on the

(21:33):
semaglue tide and that has obviously made a big impact
on them trimming some weight. And then now they've got
their testosteron levels where they.

Speaker 2 (21:40):
Need to be.

Speaker 1 (21:41):
They're active in the gym and they are seeing quite
the transformation. And I just don't know if there's enough
I mean, clearly enough people have realized this. That's why
the Little Men's Clinic has been around for over ten years,
providing a great service in a variety of ways. But
you know, I know so many men probably just assume no,
I'm okay, I'm tough, no big deal. Well imagine not
knowing that you could actually be a lot more healthier

(22:02):
and happier. So check them out Little Vince Clinic dot com.
Give them a call FAVO to four four four four thousand.
