(00:01):
I'm Tony Kruz News Radio eight fortywhas on the heels of a tragic weekend.
Thankfully not as tragic as it couldhave been, as former President Donald
Trump was shot in the ear duringan assassination attempt. We're happy to have
with us. Paul violists joining us, has joined us many times over the
years. Paul, appreciate your time, law enforcement, security, criminal justice.

(00:23):
You've done it all, my man, and thanks so much for spending
some time with us today. Let'stalk about the failures here. Some say
the Secret Service, some say theFBI, some say the local police.
What happened here? In good morning? Good morning, Tony, always great
to join you. I think thebest thing for the listen is to understand
this morning. Let's take the passionatethought out of this and let's just get

(00:45):
right down to facts. The factis that there's one very clear process that's
been in place for many, manyyears and should have been in place relative
to events security, and it clearlywas not. That is the threat assessment
process. Now that what that meansis that when the Secret Service comes to
town, I don't care what countit is, could be Louisville, could
be anywhere and it doesn't matter.Secret Service takes over. They dictate exactly

(01:11):
what's going to happen, Who's goingto go, where the staffing, the
positioning, etc. Who's going tobe posted, where, how many people
are where? Secret Services in charge. I've seen them at Tomstny and passed,
you know, in my past lifeof government welding manhole cover shut.
So there's no task that they won'tundertake. It was on them to assess

(01:34):
the physical security and premise security risks. A B. The primary part of
a threat assessment is to assess theprinciple. In this case former President Trump,
did he have a threat level thatwas consistent with a regular former president
or was it enhanced? Clearly itwas enhanced. Did his security meet that?
No, it did not. Thatis a fundamental aspect of threat assessment.

(02:00):
Part A is where they failed inPart B is the decision to make
staffing Tony. Now, as anyonecan appreciate, regardless of what business you're
in, Tony, we all knowthat staffing is key. Someone made a
decision as to not put the rightamount of people in place and to not
have the right skilled labor in placefor this particular event. That's what Congress

(02:24):
is going to convene on today andthe days and weeks ahead has to decide
who made this decision and why theymade it. There's been an argument,
and it's pretty much out there rightnow. I don't know who's telling the
truth or not. A debate overthe security issue of Secret Service members being

(02:45):
a part of President Trump's homorage,if you will. They've said that they
being the Trump folks, that theyasked for more and that the whole Land
Security Secretary did not give them more. They're saying, we did, So
where does that lie? Well,I think what I've seen already in just

(03:07):
listening to the folks that I haveclosed to this have assured me that his
detail was consistent with a textbook detailfor a former president. And regardless of
what they may be saying right now, at the end of the day,
Tony, you're not going to beable to get out of that because the
numbers are what they are and theprotocol is what it is. So what

(03:28):
they did. The biggest mistake,if everybody to understand, the biggest mistake
they made, was not to assessthe principle the proper way. Now why
they did that, you know,we'll only find out when people get in
front of congressing it in front ofa hearing as to the men's ray or
the intent behind it. But clearlythey gave him the same protocol that they
would an aging president, and unfortunatelythat was just completely inconsistent with what his

(03:51):
threat level actually is. Paul,I'd love to discuss so much more with
you right now. Time constraints tokeep us from being able to do that,
but let's make sure that we meetagain, Okay. I always look
forward to Tony injuried there YouTube PaulViles who is an expert and all things
security, law enforcement, and criminaljustice
