Speaker 1 (00:01):
It's seven thirty six. It's that much fun to talk
to Joe Hardold because we talk about everything, but what
we're talking about right now. I mean, man, oh man,
oh man. We have a lot in common, and I
appreciate it so much to see you.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
It's just great to be back on the double dhis airwaves.
I appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (00:18):
Well, you still belong here, yeah, loss you. So let's
talk a little bit. Oh of course, you know Joe
because he always beils me out whenever we have trouble
with weather throughout the state with the Kentucky Electric Cooperative.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
And I will say that with the heavy rains coming
in next few days and with the ground already saturated,
first of all, the safety never drive through water. You
don't know where the bottom is, hell right. And then
beyond that, you know, I would expect actually some pyrotids
in some places. It's because of the think about how
how saturated the ground is, and it wouldn't take much

(00:55):
to take some things down. So not not a serious situation,
but be careful.

Speaker 1 (00:59):
I was talking to John Gordon on the National Weather
Service national excuse me, Monday or Tuesday, I think maybe
it was Tuesday, and we were discussing what was going
on with the snow. Yeah, and and we also talked
about he reminded us that there could be six to
eight inches in eastern Kentucky. So and that's not very good. Yeah,

(01:25):
we'll see hopefully.

Speaker 2 (01:26):
We like light snow. We like even like the powders
snow when it gets heavy. And of course the worst
of it is ice. You know, that's the best, the
last thing you want. But then beyond the second worst
is going to be that heavy snow that can uh
cake on the on the on the power lines and
such and bring those down. So let's be careful, all
right now.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
Now today what the hat is uh Kentucky Living Magazine,
which is fantastic.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
It's the flagship publication of Kentucky's electric cooperatives and so
there are as as you know from and thank you
for for talking about the co ops on the air, Tony. There.
Co ops are the locally owned, member owned power providers
all across Kentucky. We serve the majority of the state
in terms of the land mass when you put it
all together, from one ount of the state to the
other one one hundred and seventeen counties. But the magazine

(02:14):
is the chief communications way that the co ops use
to be able to communicate with their members. So and
your view, of course, your listening area is so broad,
but immediately around Louisville, Salt River Electric, Shelby Energy, Mead
County ARICC, among many others Farmers, RICC. I won't go
the whole through the whole list, but Kentucky Living we

(02:35):
celebrate these local communities all across the state and every
year we do the Best in Kentucky Awards. This is
where we need your help because this is the old
phrase like you eat where the locals eat, and if
you're living a local air, you know where to go,
you know what to do. You know the best hiking trail,
you know the best food truck, you know the best
barbecue or the best down home restaurant, and then you

(02:56):
know the diner down the road. Now is when the
nominations are open for our statewide promotion. A lot of
different cities have like Best of Louisville or Best of Lexington.
This is the one way with the entire state a
travel guide and so you go to Kentucky Living dot
com and you can just fill out the spaces that
you have a recommendation.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
Well, I think that's an exelente idea, because you want
to know what's the best little dining hall or something
like that. And back when I was motorcycling and i'd
go into eastern Kentucky, we would go into you get
some fuel or whatever, and the best chicken tenders and
or ham sandwich you've ever had would be right there

(03:38):
behind the case, still like old school, you know, you know,
decades ago.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
And this has been my great honor and opportunity since
I left Whas to Be ten years ago this year,
and I've spent the last ten years now traversing the
state and getting to know a lot of these places
I didn't know existed, like one of my you just
mentioned this, So I'm giving out of the ether. Here
in the Clark County, the Pilot View Mini Mart has

(04:01):
one of the best breakfasts and lunches in the state.
I'm telling you, homemade pie every day. I mean, so
you're sitting there and you have the motor oil and
the paper towels on the on the you know, on
the wall there on the counter or on the just
of people to go in and get in and pay
for their gas. But then you're eating one of your
best lunches you're going to have in the state. So

(04:22):
I'm must say this is a great opportunity and for
folks who like to travel, like to be able to
you know, hey, a day trip, you know, one tank trip,
what's what's the best museums out in the state, the
best road trips, the best breakfast place.

Speaker 1 (04:33):
Yeah, and now you know with Aaron, B and B
and everything else you can do not to mention that
you're probably helping the Kentucky State Parks.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
Big time with They are big partners of ours and
there's are fantastic places to.

Speaker 1 (04:46):
Go Smithville, Kentucky our best restaurant.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
Love our best. You know who introduced me to our best,
Mark Travis? Oh didty yeap? Mark Travis. Let's see, yesterday
was marx funeral. Just wanted to give us a quick
shout out to his family. Obviously they were thinking about them,
so thank you for for floting me bring him up.
But anyway, but Mark loved our best and I would
used to give away you know, dinners for our Best
on the Overnight Show. Yeah back.

Speaker 1 (05:11):
I don't know if Kenny still owns it or not,
but just great people there and the food is delicious.
But there's a lot of you know, great places that
we have wineries and and the liking of Obviously this
is starting to become a big tourism thing when it
comes to all these different distilleries.

Speaker 2 (05:27):
Well, the distillery toores have been a great motivator for
people to get out beyond Jefferson County, you know, and
to see these different places. And then once you're out there,
I mean there's a lot of different you know distillery
you know, like marathons and things, and there's you know,
road races, motorcycle rallies, that kind of thing. But where
do you go while you're out and there's other things
to do? Let me take a break. We'll come right
bay break and we'll wrap up some of the things

(05:49):
that you want to get on here.

Speaker 1 (05:53):
Diplomatic, we'll be back. Shut out Arnold, No, not you.
It's me seven forty six. We're with Joe Arnold and
it's Kentucky Living Magazine thanks to the Kentucky Electric Cooperative. Now, okay,
best in Kentucky. Let's get back on track that I
took us off, bubb as we started talking about Now

(06:14):
it's great.

Speaker 2 (06:14):
No, the're perfect. No, that's what it is. The best
place is to eat across the state. So every year
we do this is like the fifteenth year that we're
doing it. And so this is a campaign for best
in Kentucky on Kentuckyliving dot com. There's thirty different categories.
The broad categories destinations, eats and drinks, outdoors, people, personalities
such as local radio host is one of them, Tony Cruz.

(06:36):
And I am saying, and then, but what happens every
year when we go through this and the awards are announced,
then people will call our email all right, and they'll say, well,
you got this all wrong, and why didn't you say
this place this is the best barbecue. And you know
there's a big you know, a very emotionally charged barbecue,
enthusiasts barbecue. I'm just saying, now is the time speak

(06:57):
now or forever hold your barbecue, because because now is
the time to go to Kentucky Living dot com. Our
friends at LaRue County Chamber of Commerce are supporting this
to be able to have this big ballot out there,
and everyone who fills out a ballot, there's no purchase necessary.
You're entered into a drawing. Every week we give away
one hundred bucks to one of the people who now
who nominated, and then we collect all those nominations, and

(07:19):
then in May we put a ballot out on the
state and that with the top three. You can choose
from a lot easier than you. Just go in, just
click on which one you think of the top three,
and then we announce them in August. So, but now
is the time we need your help.

Speaker 1 (07:30):

can find explore different to all kinds of different things,

the North South Trail, the ninety nine Cafe in Scottsville.
