Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, I eight thirty five in news radio A

(00:02):
forty whs Tony Cruz. Two weeks, two weeks, and let's see,
I'm off Thursday and Friday next week because Westport High School,
which is now middle school, I know, but back in
the day it was a high school. And when I
was at Westport High School, I had a few friends

(00:22):
and we're all going to get together Westport High School,
like the whole school. Everybody that's still living is invited.
If you went to Westport to go out on Thursday
at Churchill Downs on Friday, it's going to be like
a kingfish and it's going to be a Joe's older
than dirt. We're going to celebrate on Saturday and then
Sunday we're gonna get pictures taken at Westport High School.

(00:44):
That's next week, and so it's been a lot of fun,
you know, just looking at that. But so I'm going
to take two days off. So really this is like
I only have like eight more shows, no seven, because
then we the extended Memorial Day holidays. So with that,
we have a very special announcement for a very special

(01:05):
person and persons. As you know, I'll be leaving this
chair on May the thirtieth, and I'm very very happy
that there's been someone else selected in house. And he's
a very talented young man. He's someone that's very deserving.
He's someone that works very, very hard at his craft.

(01:26):
And his name is Nick Coffee, which is a great
name for a morning guy. Wayne Perky. I never believed
that Wayne Perky's name was really Perky, but it was.
And Nick Coffee. Do you drink coffee? Nick Coffee? I don't.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
I get asked that a lot. I've probably had coffee
a few times. In fact, John Alden, of all people,
your great producer who used to be mine until you
stole him from and I'm gonna be happy to reunite
with him, for sure. But he is the only person that,
at this point in my thirty six years, has prepared
a cup of coffee that I was able to finish
and say, you know what, I can't say that I've
acquired the taste just yet, but it's not so bad.

(02:05):
And it does give you the jolt that I've heard about,
a nice little uh, nice little boost of energy.

Speaker 1 (02:09):
What did you do? What are you gonna do? You drink?
Drink rock Star?

Speaker 2 (02:12):
You drink much oh, I've got I've got a real uh.
I've got a real bad uh. I wouldn't say addition,
but I rely on the White Monster energy drinks quite
a bit and they help. But I've been told, no
matter how long you do it, and you get up
at you know, three o'clock in the morning or earlier,
sometimes it never gets easier. I would assume that's the case.

Speaker 1 (02:31):
I will say what Dayne Perky told me when I
was producing for him. I said, do you ever get
used to this?

Speaker 2 (02:37):
He goes, uh No, in a very happy voice, and
it makes total sense. I remember when I made the
move from from from mid days to mornings on seven
ninety years ago. It was an adjustment for me going
on at seven am rather than noon. And then I
showed up one day at like five point forty five, thinking,
I'm here early, I'm getting ready for my shift, and
yet you guys had already been on the air for

(02:57):
nearly an hour and it had been here two hours.
ID know, I wouldn'tett get much smpth be about the
early wake up call for a seven am start, But
you know, I'll adjust, and I'm really really excited looking
forward to it. It still doesn't seem real to be in
this position to be able to join in and kind
of help lead Kentucky and his Morning News taking over
for the one and only Tony Cruz big shoes to fill.

(03:18):
When I filled in for you a couple of times,
I always would say, I'm the less talented, less hand
less handsome, less successful, less seasoned version of Tony Cruz.
So I'll leave that one behind. But I'm really excited
and I certainly appreciate you sharing the news.

Speaker 1 (03:32):
Yeah, well, exciting to have you. We're also excited because
Scotti is still with us as well, and he does
a such a fantastic job with the sports and you
and he will have a chance to talk about other things,
other issues in different things. I mean, you know, I
went away with doing it my probably old fashioned way

(03:52):
of the way you do a show. It's still going
to be called Kajet Cana's Warning News, So I mean
we're going to provide that, you know, top and bottom
of the hour of the news and all those kind
of things. Yeah, but you know, I'm interested in seeing
you know what, you guys do a lot with the
show too, and you know, specifically you as a point

(04:13):
man here you're point guard. You were, that's right, all regional?
Is that correct?

Speaker 2 (04:19):
Yeah, that's that's not inaccurate.

Speaker 1 (04:21):
Day.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
What's exciting for me is one just the opportunity, but also,
you know, as i've gotten older, for those wh don't
know much about me, I'm not Tony Chris, I'm not
Tony Benettie or Terry Minors. So therefore I'm well aware
that there may be some that might not be familiar
with me. But I'm thirty six years old, I'm born
and raised here in the Louisville area. I've been in
sports talk for gosh in total, probably about thirteen fourteen
years now, but I've been with iHeart this will be

(04:44):
I'll be coming up on ten years before too long,
so been around but obviously just done sports and that's
been great. But I'm energized and excited about this new,
this new you know, it is gonna be a challenge,
but it's gonna be It's gonna be awesome. I'm looking
forward to it. I realize now that when it comes
to Kentucky this morning news, news, traffic, weather, those are

(05:05):
things that people rely on, right, It's been a constant
for them so long on their morning commute for years
and that's not changing by any means. But I like
to think that, you know, I'm aware that they can
get that info, you know, with the device now that
everybody has in their pocket at all times. So we'll
continue to give it to you and obviously you can
always depend upon that, but also you know, talking about

(05:26):
things locally, things that matter. You know, I'm a father
to raise a family here in the community, so I've
got plenty of thoughts on that kind of stuff, and
I look forward to being able to hopefully continue conversations
with the many people that have joined this program for many,
many years and talked with you. So it'll be a
change of pace for me. But I'm real excited, cannot
wait to get started. A great crew from top to bottom.

(05:46):
As you mentioned Scott Fitzgerald who has been a part
of HS in the Mornings for so long and will continue.

Speaker 1 (05:51):
To be other than me, Actually he was with Bob's Color,
was here after Wayne was here, so he's a veteran.

Speaker 2 (05:58):
He knows his way around, that's for sure, and UH
really looking forward to working alongside him. And of course,
as I mentioned, you stole my producer John Alden. I
had a great. I had a great nickname for him
when he was on with me. He was the company man,
John Alden, and then you know, he just I get it.
He was he was quickly called up to the big
leagues because you guys saw some real talent there. So
uh yeah, I'm very excited, uh and cannot wait. And

(06:19):
the clock's taken for you. Man, It's it's starting to
become real to me. I'm sure it is to you.
That aren't many more any many more mornings where you're
gonna have to wake up that early?

Speaker 1 (06:27):
Oh, don't entice me. It maybe next Monday morning, I
mean that's for sure. All right, more with mister Coffee
coming up here on Kentuck Cana'sony News news radio wave
