Speaker 1 (00:00):
Boom boom. If you thought four hours a day, minutes
a week was enough, I think again. He's the last
remnants of the old Republic, a sole fashion of fairness.
He treats crackheads in the ghetto cutter the same as
the rich pill poppers in the penthouse to clearinghouse of
hot takes, break free for something special. Fifth Hour with
(00:23):
Ben Maller starts right now in the air everywhere you
know how. This show operates eight days a week, and
a happy Saturday, a college basketball weekend is upon us
in full effect, as sweet as honey, clearly. But we're
(00:45):
back at it for a Saturday podcast. And we do
this because it's a spinoff of the Overnight Show. You
already knew that. You already know that, and we thank
you for that. Cameo dot com, Cameo dot com, cameo
dot com, you wanna video message, We're on. I'm on there,
and so is the guy that's over sitting on the
other side of the microphone, David Gascon, who's right over there.
(01:09):
Back again on a Saturday with no applause today, which good?
You were the second coming of Andre Carolinko a K
forty seven. Did you know that I have never seen
a man publicly cheat on his wife quite like you have.
I mean the tongue bath and the boot licking and
the ass wiping from your sickle fans. I mean, how
(01:32):
would you take advantage of Jay Scoop the other day?
I mean he was great on the podcast advantage of
My God. You put a gun into the dude's head,
told him to write some lyrics and then create show.
He's such a man, he's such a nice guy, and
he took an advantage of him and just Josh, no,
I didn't take advantage of He's a super fan. I listen,
(01:52):
Someday you will actually have someone that appreciates your works.
I'm not sure when that's gonna happen. I don't know.
It seems like it's not going so well for but
at some point someone will appreciate your work and then
you will have them do these kind of acts of
kindness and you will not, you know, discredit other people
that benefit from these things. How dare you? You just
(02:14):
did job by you? It is in broad daylight. It's
such a nice guy, and you have no remorse for
taking advantage of these kind people. It's this this guy,
I love these guys that are fans of the show.
Uh that unlike you. And I tried to explain it
to you again. Gascon only wants to put aristocrats and
(02:36):
powerful people on and all that, and I am more
relatable to the common man. And that's the difference, right
I. I I don't mind, and I actually look forward to
hanging out with the Hoi POLOI you don't guesscan for you?
This was very uncomfortable when you were very silent when
we had Jay Scoop on you. I think you brought
(02:56):
up one thing to try to bring me down there.
Uh and you know, tear the man down and all that,
just looking out for him. I don't know what you think,
what do you want? What you are such when it
comes to the common person, you think these people are
all a bunch of cavemen and carnivores and all that.
And you know you're you're at a higher social standis
and you're so oblivious, You're so oblivious through the way
(03:17):
this works. How dare you? Bad job by you? I
do think that he mentioned that Jay Scoop mentioned it yesterday.
I think we should name it, or I think you
should name it the Jay Scoop Score the Year. Yeah,
well I don't know about that, but we we will
have a J. Scoop Theme Award for the Talent Show.
And he is right. That's a great point by Jay
Scoop that branding is important and we need to celebrate
(03:42):
some of the great things that have happened on the show.
A score is perfect. Do you think about like Star
Wars or the Indiana Jones score, like those are those
are tunes and soundtracks that you will never ever forget.
That's you know, it should be a dedicated to him.
I mean he put in a lot. He the John
Williams of of our little show. Yeah, great, John, is
(04:06):
he still working? He's like almost nineties. Yeah, I think
he actually is ninety. Actually is great stuff though that
I mean John Williams, you talk about the composer, greatest
composer of all time, right, you know in our world?
I mean night have went around for eighty nine? Yeah, great,
(04:27):
the Star Wars, Indiana Jones stuff, amazing park, Jurassic Park.
What man. You know, sometimes I'm a loser and I'll
go on to one of the music apps and I'll
click on just the John Williams channel. Yeah, it's all good.
There's no ship, it's all good. Everything's great. Everything is
better than the last long you heard. I remember an
(04:48):
eye popping moment when I was working in the banking industry.
I had a client that came into the bank and
I worked in the real estate department. But he came
into my office and said, Hey, I need to deposit
the check. Can you help me out? And I should?
I said sure. You know, I thought he was just
a common guy. I mean, he's dressed, low key. He
comes in, he comes in and opens up the envelope
(05:10):
for the check and I see six digits on it,
seven zero zero Comma zero zero zero. And I was like,
He's like, yeah, I mean I just got paid on
the score. And he was a music composer and he
had just gotten paid off of a huge project. That
I was like, holy shit, that he wasn't I forgot
his name, but it was you forgot his name? Is
(05:31):
it's you, the king of all name droppers? Forgot the
guy's name. Yea. Now it's that's common up in up
in Rolling Hills. Man. That's why Tiger was crashed there.
You know, we've got all kinds of people just doing
bougie ship. Here we go. But yeah, that yeah, it
was an I popping moments like, oh shit, check for
seven thousand dollars. Back when when this guy did a
(05:52):
radio show at the Premier Networks, I recall seeing Slash
at the A t M outside the building. Yeah, yeah,
he wasn't wearing his his trademark guns and Roses hat there,
he didn't have that, but it was Slash. It was
absolutely Slash. They're hanging out back back in the day.
(06:13):
Pretty wild. That's good. I'm proud of Jay Scoop. I'm
actually inspired because with what he is, um well, he
brought to the party of uh last week for you
on the show. I think he will be the rare
guy that I will allow to enter the golden happy
confines of the Ben Mauers Show this upcoming week. Oh
is that right? Yes? Is that right? What do you
(06:35):
what are you referencing there? Spand on that So it's
a tease, It's it's not the full meal, it's just
a taste. What's the come of the Ben Mallas Show
on the coming day? Are you going to become an interloper?
Is that what you're about to do? No? No, but
it could be. It's fine, it's fine. So what's up. Well,
what's on the menu for today? Well, the thank you
(06:59):
message received? We've got that. We also have if that
was not enough for you, three seven one, A Tale
of Gascon and Sports TV plus pop Quiz plus pop Quiz,
we have all that now. Uh, the thank you the
message received. We we begged pathetically for people to review
(07:22):
the podcast in a positive light. We had some hostile actors,
some bad actors that attacked the good name of this
fifth hour podcast. You noticed that, of course, because you
love negativity, and we said, hey, we'd like to get
some good, good feedback here. This does help us out.
And a number of you didn't answer the call, and
(07:42):
we thank you. Some very positive reviews there. I saw
pod Dust, Bring the Heater, m J stepping up and
thank all of you. And uh, here's one from Bring
the Heater said eight days a week is not enough.
I want nine days a week. Love the show that
(08:04):
tremendous good. Yeah, pod us appreciate the unique approach to
each podcast and thoroughly enjoy the content and banner there.
We love yet and that's a little compliment to Uh
to the guy that you will not compliment since he
included the compliment myself quite a bit. And you can't
have banfy with just one person. Oh you're not usually here,
(08:27):
so who I I can bounce the conversation off anyone.
The conversation never stops. It's fine, No, it doesn't, never stops. Yeah,
that's good. And we got some pleasant responses. That's good.
I apprec we're here for when talk matters. That's what
we're here, and talk matters and uh and also m
(08:48):
J said, I totally enjoyed your show. Don't change a thing,
especially your value laden orientations. How about that. I like it. Yeah,
solid big word there to big word like that, So
thank you and keep that up. We need like twenty
five more, which will probably take us the rest of
the year to get that. But we'll we'll keep begging.
(09:09):
We'll keep begging. And I've heard people say, hey, I'm
on Android. I can't I can't review an Apple podcast
on Android. So I guess you just have to have
an Apple product. Is that the way that works? I
think I guess, so yeah, all right, well that's all right,
yeah it is. It's fun and I think they're on
the I Heart platform. Right, there's a there's a review
section on there when you download your podcast. If you're
(09:30):
on the I Heart app or on iHeart the website,
they have that as well. All right, so what's this
three seven one? What is this all about? So I
did something and it felt like it felt like I
was in the at the d m Z. I felt
like I was at the demilitarized zone just a couple
of days ago. And I don't know if you'd appreciate this,
(09:51):
but I felt like I was walking through a land
mine um for the first time in three hundred and
seventy one days, I took my ass into a gym.
I went into a gym the other day then, and
I was shocked that it was open. It wasn't busy,
(10:13):
but I actually felt rather strange in the sense that
I was a little apprehensive and and fearful about going
in there, Like we're not all walking bio hazards, but
just the sheer climate that we're in, at least in
this state, I don't worry about it. And so people
were required to wear masks whenever they worked out, whether
(10:35):
it was running or on a StairMaster, a treadmill, elliptical,
or lifting weights. And the gym that I work out
at is a massive gym. It's like a giant warehouse
converted into a gym, but it's super clean and spacious.
Not a lot of people in there. But yeah, I
felt like you worked out with a mask on. I did. Yeah,
(10:55):
I had to work out with a mask on, but
I went into a back room area, uh where there
was nobody around. So I felt guilty. But you know,
I was like, Uh, I was like John Kerry on
a flight. I took the mask off when I was
when I was lifting a weight. So you know, if
he can do it on an airline and not have
any kind of recourse, I can do that. So I
did do it, but I it was it was weird
(11:17):
to think and to feel how on edge I was
just about going in with gym, which is a healthy
place to working your body out, your mind out, and
then obviously boost up the immune system. Yeah, well I
will not be going back to the gym, I don't think.
So I got a treadmill. I gotta use the treadmill,
and I got you. I got some gym equipment at
(11:39):
the house here. So yeah, I think I'm out. I
think I'm done, and I don't the gym stuff I
don't see it going unless you live in Texas or Mississippi.
I think still in places like where we live California,
I think there'll still be so many restrictions that are
gonna forever be placed on the gym. I hope I'm wrong.
I hope I'm wrong. And how our heads prevail here
(12:01):
um and I guess have enough politicians get recalled, maybe
that will happen. But until that point, I don't need
to wear a mask while I'm at the gym. Yeah,
it's good, it's tough. I know guys have to work masks.
That's at certain places of work when they're around people.
But I can't imagine. I can't imagine working out long
(12:23):
term with the mask on. It's just there's no there's
no health benefits to it, and you know the the
implications about doing that for a long period time, especially
with through you know, a heavy lifting or heavy cardio,
and that's that's not going in the positive direction. And uh,
I know we're a little asked backwards with that, but yeah,
(12:45):
I don't know. It's ah, but a long time man,
I feel sort of ship. It's a it's been a while.
Look at you bragging about your work, No, but three
seventy one day. I mean I was fearful for my body,
you know, like you don't go in you know, lifting way,
it's a running The first thing I thought of fun,
I'm gonna tear a quad, or I'm gonna pull something,
(13:06):
or I can't get the weight up anymore. Like all
that stuff was running through your mind, not just you know,
obviously we don't start out as as hercules. You have
to work yourself back up to you. But no guy
thinks like that, like we all think we're bulletproof or
we think we can overcome it and we're beyond. You're old, though,
I mean you're old, man Guescon. I mean I'm young
(13:26):
and hip, and there's nothing about you. There's nothing spry
about you. Come on with please, I I just give
the youthful energy is what I give about. Youth Ful
energy is what I provide here. Uh clearly. Yeah. For me,
I have not gone at the gym. I haven't been
any sporting events at all. I used to go every week.
(13:49):
I would go to at least one game a week,
whether it be basketball, hockey, football, baseball. And you know,
back in my heyday, I was there every night you know,
seven days a week. I was at a ballpark in
my younger days. I'm married now, so I can't do that.
Dodger Dogs with Steve the Sager after the seventh inning.
Be sure to catch live editions of The Ben Maller
(14:11):
Show weekdays at two am Eastern eleven pm Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio app. Be
sure to catch live editions of The Ben Maller Show
weekdays at two am Eastern eleven pm Pacific. Yeah, I
grew up at Dodger Stadium. I did. I mean, I
started out. I was like when I first started covering
the Dodgers, I was nineteen years old and I was
(14:33):
there every day probably until I was about thirty five,
pretty much. So that's a long run. And yeah, so
it was. It was pretty crazy back back in the day.
So have you been to a restaurant? They opened up
in indoor dining in Los Angeles for a small percentage
(14:54):
of customers, and I have not. I'm a little gunshy
about that too. And we talked. I don't know, I
just I am. I don't be a woos what's wrong
with you? I'm not. I just hate thinking about like
I hate thinking or treating people like they're walking around
with all kinds of of issues with with COVID. I
I'm sorry, I don't think like that. I don't either,
(15:15):
but just the simple sounds like you do. I'm guilty
of it in the back of my mind, that's the
only thing. But now when people start coughing, I get
a little queasy. But other than that, you know, I don't.
I don't look at people like they have cooties. I
try not to. I certainly don't tell people to put
masks on. I certainly don't tell people to back away
from me or to get you know, six ft apart,
(15:35):
especially since that's in changing now. Dr Fauci saying we
should go from six ft to three ft um. It
wasn't too late though. Once the legend becomes the fact,
you go with the legend. The legend six feet, so
you have to keep going with the six feet. All
these businesses lined up six ft. Yeah, well, I mean,
he's the go to three feet. You can't do three feet,
it's a six feet. He's the god almighty with the
with the medical and science industries and yeah, yeah, I
(15:57):
mean just a CNN any of a doctor's opinions or
a virologists that offer anything that pushes back on it.
It doesn't matter. He is the guys, so we got
to bend the knee, if you will, to him. It
is amusing, though, with that kind of stuff, because you'll
see stories that will come out that will say something
that you know, this is the science, and the media
(16:18):
will push back say it's not, and then months later
it will turn out to be true. But then no,
and no one, no one goes back and does inventory. Well,
wait a minute, you guys in the media said that
wasn't true, but it turned out to be true, and
you know, yeah, it'll just be a small omission or
an editorial change and a line at the bottom saying
we apologize in air for for what was reported earlier.
(16:41):
Are you referring to the Washington resident Trump and the
Secretary of State truemandious bullshit quotes that destroyed Trump? And
then we're completely crap And then oh, you know months later,
by the way, this is unbelievable, unreal. Are we have
we have we have? Have you been into a restaurant yet? Yes, yeah,
(17:03):
I I've been going to Orange County on the weekends
taking care of my dad's estates. So they the restaurants,
there's some of them that are open in the in
the O C. And it's it's much more like Texas
in the O C. Than it is. Yeah, you know, California,
And yeah, I've been fine. I mean, there's there's one
Mexican restaurant that we've been going through for years of
(17:23):
kind of the family restaurant that we've been you know,
since I was a kid, and they have indoor dining
and uh yeah, no no qualms about it. Love it great.
It is amusing though, when I when you go into
these restaurants because they have the mask mandate except when
you're eating, So sitting down at the table eating chips
and salsa, you don't have to wear the mask, but
(17:44):
if you stand up one foot next to the table,
you have to have the mask. Yeah, so the logic
behind that doesn't seem to really, you know what. We're
lucky though, at least here in southern California because it's
turning the calendar. We're in March right now. I had
in April that a lot of the restaurants can't afford
actually to have the outdoor dining now and it's pretty
(18:06):
much pleasant and clear and comfortable weather. So it's yeah, yeah,
we're not sitting in Boston where it's nasty, or Philly
or New York or any of those, or parts of
Michigan and Ohio and all all that. All right, So
we have sports TV. Big news in Sports TV that
was announced the other day, the NFL and their new
(18:28):
television contracts, a license to print money for the National
Football League and a lot of it. We already knew
a lot of it. We already knew the NFL and
go point by point by this. But the the NFL
network will continue to televise a certain number of games.
(18:51):
They're gonna leave some games on there. They have all
these new media agreements. Uh, the NFL has the the
traditional blue bloods of sports television, NBC, Fox, CBS and
ESPN will continue on NBC has got the Sunday Night
football package again. They renew that and they're gonna simulcast
(19:17):
the Sunday night game on their streaming service. If you
pay for the peacock, I do not pay for the peacock.
Do you pay for the cock? Guest, do you pay
for the peacock? I get all the I get all
the good material when you're on in a good mood,
I get uh, I get all the good stuff when
you want to share it. So, oh is that right?
You have access to all that for interesting Sometimes it
(19:38):
just depends, right, I mean all right, these websites, don't
they typically like re like these links get redone every year, right,
just to avoid getting getting clipped by the FBI or
some of these agencies. Right, I don't know what you're
talking about. I don't know right now. Uh. I would
never I would never knowingly do anything like that. Fox.
(20:02):
Fox will continue to broadcast the NFC package. They've been
doing that since nineteen. It's a long run that when
Fox started, people people were like outrage, Oh this was
a road network Fox Sports. No one's gonna watch you know,
nobody wants to watch that. They thought it would only
(20:22):
be a couple of years and then they would go
back because CBS had had the NFC package prior to that,
and because I remember Pat summer All and John Madden
doing all those NFC East Cowboy Redskins games or Giants
and the Eagles and all that. ESPN is gonna continue
as the Monday Night football partner, but a BC is
(20:47):
gonna do two Super Bowls. There have been some rumors
that the Monday Night package was gonna move to ABC,
and I think that still might be the case for
some select games. CBS contin and US on with the
a f C package, and so that that will says
the most interesting part of this is into the Amazon
(21:09):
we Go. Amazon has agreed to the first ever fully
digital package for sports television and they've acquired the rights
to the Thursday night football package. All right, so they
will they will be doing that. They've they've done some
(21:30):
select samplings of of football since seen but uh, and
I referenced this in a previous edition of the Ben
Mallor Show. For Amazon, they've got to make a move here, right,
They've got to make a move because you want credibility
as a sports network. These are gonna be produced by Amazon,
(21:53):
these broadcasts. Now, what's gonna happen is they're gonna inevitably
hire establishment producers and establishment directors and people that work
in sports television. So they're gonna hire people you know of.
But as I said on the radio show Guest Gun,
the guy that Amazon has to get is Al Michaels.
(22:13):
That's the guy NBC's forcing Al Michael's out. If you
believe the scuttle button Sports TV circles al this gonna
be his last year at NBC. They're they're bumping to
Rico and Drew Brees and they're getting rid of cowns
Worth and Al Michaels. If I'm Amazon, I hired them both.
I hire Michaels and coins Worth, and I might throw
(22:34):
a third person in the booth, but that's who I
go with if I want credibility as an NFL broadcast. Yeah,
it's it's weird that they are getting punted. I mean
they are. I like. I like their pair Collinsworth and
al Michaels because they can mix in a lot of
the gambling conversations that we we chatter about. But they're good,
(22:57):
they're colorful, they've got good structure, the great chemistry. And
there's no guarantees on Drew Brees, like what has he done?
Like how is he tested out? For them to say
that is our go to guy compared to Chris Collinsworth,
who has been doing this for over two decades. Well,
you know the answers jock Ocracy. I did a monologue
about this. Is he played football, so he you know
(23:18):
the skill set to be a broadcaster is different than
the skill set to be a professional athlete. But the
people that make these decisions often don't realize that, and it's, uh,
you know, they shoot their shot because he's they're they're
they're fans of these guys as players, and so, you know,
ridiculous and oftentimes there was disaster. Do you have a
Collinsworth play. The one thing with Jason Witten is at
least he had protect you with Booker McFarlane on the
(23:39):
back side of him, and he was doing so much
college football related so him and Joe Test It tour.
Even if Witten sucked, you still had two of the
guys that were competent and good. But with Breeze, I mean,
he we've already been think what happened last year where
he got drilled by his teammates and the social media
outburst from what he had his stances on the American flag. Yeah,
(24:00):
but here's the thing, Like as far as Consworth is concerned, Like, yeah,
he's a former player, that's true, but he's spent much
more time as a broadcast and he did playing for
the Bengals. He hasn't played in the NFL, And like
almost thirty five years, Like he's been a broadcaster for
over thirty years. That's been his gig um. But he
proved himself. But when he started also he there was
(24:23):
no guarantee that Chris Collinsworth was gonna be any good
as a broadcaster, and he worked in his crap. But yeah,
the Breeze thing, you know, he's he wants to be
liked too much to me and other people. Listen, the fanboys,
the sick of fans and the media and so you know,
a lot of the just the blind sheep, the lemmings
(24:45):
will be like, oh whatever he says, Oh that was
such a great point by Drew Brees. Oh my god,
it was awesome, you know, the sheep um. But I
need more. I need so. I needed the ability to
be critical. I need that. I don't think we're gonna
get that. Don't either. He's not afraid to take shots
at anybody Callingsworth and in the same breath, I mean
(25:07):
not to say that Breeze doesn't He doesn't obviously analyze
tape and things of that nature. But there's a difference
between talking about it and then translating what you see
onto film and then obviously onto a game set. So
I don't know if he can do that in such
a way. Like the one unique thing about live television
live radio is you're flying without a parachute, and so
(25:27):
you get no fun, you get no Mulligan's. You have
to see and then translate it quickly and process it.
There's no guarantees that Breeze can do that. Well. The
good news for Breezes, he'll have an army of people
in his ear telling him, all right, here's what we're
gonna do, Drew, here's what you need to say, you know,
like that that kind of stuff. You'll have that support
to guide him through. Maybe he'll be good. You get
(25:50):
surprised every once in a while, and typically the people
you think are gonna be good suck, and then the
people that you think you're gonna be bad or better
than than you expect. I just I hate it in
the sense that I mean probably it's probably because we're
like old man, get off my my lawn type of guys.
But but when I think about these transitions, I think
(26:12):
about the new Star Wars movies compared to the old ones,
the originals, which pale in comparison to the original three
because the acting, the chemistry and just the content was
way better. This reminds me of back in the day
when we used to have the NBA on NBC. You'd
have typically it was Bob Costas or somebody else, um,
but it was always Steve Snapper, Jones and Bill Walton
(26:34):
and they were fucking fantastic together. Like any kind of
trio with with the Snapper and Bill Walton was great.
Did you like the mid rashad following Michael Jordan's around
licking toes really out of that? Yeah, Yeah, I was great.
Gumble was on there, I think a lot too, So
it's like Gumbles wasn't Wasn't it funny though? When they
(26:56):
had a Jordan documentary, the Last Dance in head video
of Jordan's driving to the Chicago stadium to play a
Bulls game and a mod rashot is riding shotgun. He's
in the car with Jordan's as he's going to the game,
sitting in the next seat over from Michael Jordan as
(27:17):
they go to the Bulls game. Unbelievable. Unbelievable. Man oh man. Now, okay,
so you mentioned having a third guy in do you
think that would be a spot for Manning boy, Amazon's
got endless money, right, they have a license to print money,
so they could they could do that, but I say
(27:40):
no because I also think part of the part of
the problem for Amazon is they are very deep in
the wocarati and so I you know, I while they
should hire al Michaels and Colin's Worth, there will be
pressure at that company to not hire them because they
want to and they want to have a quota. You know,
(28:01):
you gotta have certain boxes checked. Uh. Maybe I'm wrong
on that, but my instinct tells me from what I
know about that company that that will be the way
that they go. Now, when you played when you play
all your video games, like Technmobowl is different than playing
Madden because Techno Bowl you're going side to side and
Madden you're going up and down. Do you think would
(28:22):
you be open with Amazon completely doing away with how
we traditionally watch a football game when we're going from
left to right or right to left. Uh, well, we
read that. I wasn't listening with last part, like, would
would you be okay with Amazon reconfiguring a broadcast? Okay?
(28:42):
I mean because the one thing I do like NBC
has done it well with football and with actually with
with soccer internationally is the skycam views. I'm a huge
fan of skycam views. The quarterback views are are great.
Here's the problem. People don't like change. People get a
product a certain way, they expect the product that way,
(29:06):
and that's gonna be the issue. Right, anything new people
immediately hate. It's just their default position. And and so
that's gonna be the issue. You have to present the product.
When you get a hamburger, or you know, get a cheeseburger,
it looks like a cheeseburger. If you change the appearance
(29:27):
of the cheeseburger, people, it might still taste good, it
might taste better, but people are used to seeing a
cheeseburger a certain way. So to answer your question now,
and the other problem Amazon is gonna have, and this
is a problem that I have dealt with in radio
with podcasting, is once you consume a product, as I said,
(29:48):
a certain way, and you change the way that product
is consumed, certain number of people will never find the product.
Like I have told people, podcast podcast our podcast numbers
are very good, but compared to the people that listen
to terrestrial radio, not good at all. We have many,
many more people hundreds and hundreds of thousands and more
(30:10):
people that listen to the radio show that never hear
the podcast. And I'm convinced it's because they're of a
certain age and they just didn't have podcasting and they
don't know how to do the podcasting, or they're not
not of that age, but they just don't have any
enthusiasm for the podcast world, and they think the radio
is there, that's how they're gonna that's the vehicle that
gives them the radio show. And so that's just the
(30:33):
way it is. Yeah. And the other thing too, is
you know how this this industry works. It's much like
the coaching circles in the NFL or Major League Baseball
or the NBA, is that once you're in with one
fra turning, whether it's ESPN or Fox or CBS or NBC,
neither get laid off or terminated. You've got another job
with another network. Like they're not bringing anybody new, they're
bringing in the old guard. Yeah, yeah, there's a finite. Yeah,
(30:58):
you know, it's it's one of those is when you
get into that network and the good old boys network,
you get in there and you're a made man, right
that kinship that nepotism in any but it's really true
in any business. I mean, look, the reason the Chicago Bears,
the main reason the Chicago Bears signed the red rifle
Andy Dalton was because the offensive coordinator used to work
(31:20):
in Cincinnati and liked Andy Dalton. That's why Andy Dalton's
the Chicago Bear. Tyrod Taylor signed with the Texans. The
reason that the new coach of the Texans was the
quarterback coach in Buffalo, this guy Culley, and Taylor was
the quarterback of the Bills. So I mean, that's the
secret to success is often you know, it's not what
(31:42):
you know, it's it's who you know. But that thing
about people changing their minds is so true. It's proven
time and time again. Once people perceive you one way,
that's how they expect you to be. And whether it's
a football, broadcast, food item, any of that stuff. And
also the platform. So I'm not I'm not a huge
fan of it, but we have seen in recent in
(32:05):
recent months and even weeks, is that the development of
of online gaming and all these gaming platforms that are
coming to light on um on these other you know
platforms that you're talking about with with gaming like FanDuel
pen Draft Kings like they've migrated their way into the
television world. So I think there's gonna be another way
(32:28):
that people are gonna be able to consume these games
on Amazon. I don't think it'll be strictly for digital purposes.
I think there'll be a way to migrate that onto
the television. I'm hoping, Yeah, we'll see what a disaster.
The other the other problem with these streaming services, and
it's the same thing with podcasting, you actually know exactly
(32:49):
how many people who listen. You know, we do a
terrestrial radio show, we get the ratings that take place,
but you don't really know. They give you a ballpark
estimate of how many people are listening. They tell you
that X number of people are listening. You're like, okay,
but you can literally count, literally and figuratively everyone that's listening,
(33:11):
or in the case of Amazon, everyone that will be watching,
and the NFL will have access to those numbers, and
more importantly, advertisers will have access to those numbers, so
that will affect advice. So that's that's all a factor.
All right, Let's do a little bit of pop quiz
and oh, we've gone long on this. We have a
lot to say. So these are random things I found
(33:33):
around the interweb, and I think they're interesting, and I'll
quiz gas count. But I'm really quizzing you. I'm really
quizzing you, all right. A new report says this product
has a lifespan of ten years, but nine of them
are rarely used after the first year. What is it? Toothpaste?
(33:54):
No toothpaste? Well, you stopped using toothpaste after after a year.
I go through toothpaste pretty quickly. Many times. Your well, yeah,
but if you go through it, you're not gonna You're
not You're gonna get to a new tube. Some people treadmill.
Treadmill is the answer. Treadmill makes me feel like my
iPhone is the same way. Now, I disagree with that
(34:16):
tenure thing. I bought a Jim Grade treadmill, so I
believe my treadmill is gonna last for like twenty years.
About that, I do you gotta see this thing when
you come over to the Mallard mansion. I know you're
afraid to leave your house guest gun, but when you
come over to the Mallard mansion, this thing is a monster. Yeah,
(34:38):
this treadmill takes up the entire room. I love it.
I was on there this morning. Do you get to
the show? I wind down? I get on the treadmill
for about an hour, hour and a half, two hours.
Whatever it did? Do you do you and the wife?
You pay a subscription to it because there something you
guys access and at the power God, No, no, not
at all. I get on there, I cook at my WiFi,
I watch on my phone, I watch videos on you
(35:00):
Tube or all and know. I'll catch up on the
news of the day, or I'll listen to a podcast
or something along those lines of music. But no, I
don't subscribe. I don't have a peloton. I don't have
one of those type deals. Yeah, uh a, I don't.
I don't really like that that kind of stuff. That's
not from me. I know. I'm self driven. I'm a
self made man. Guest gun Alright, A record, a record
(35:28):
number of adults admit they are doing this these days.
What is it? Um um filling out a will? No um,
living with their parents? Okay, I feel like that's always
the kid. Doesn't that come up every every year? The
same story, more and more people living. But that's just
(35:50):
but I actually and I don't know if this is
a wholesome thing or not. But I feel like there's
more people now that are willing to take care of
their parents. I hope so, yeah, I hope so. I
I tried to take care of my parents at the
end of their lives. You know, I didn't realize it
was the end of their lives. But I tried to
take care of what my mama did. But I tried
to take care of my very important We really gotta
(36:12):
get one of the things I love. In some of
the Asian cultures, they respect their elders, right, those are
the most important people. It's not the way it is
here in in American culture. It's just not Alright, the
average person does this at work five times a week.
What is it? I look for new jobs? Now, this
(36:32):
is something you probably do this like twenty times a week.
Lie to their boss. Okay, can pass that one by
all right, Uh, nearly half of people. I think it's
a lie biomission. All right, Nearly half of the people
(36:54):
say they do this nearly every time they go grocery shopping.
It's actually surprises me every time they go grocery shopping. Um,
go buy the buy alcohol. No, no, no, no, they
they support. You know, when you check out at the
(37:17):
grocery store, would you like to give a dollar to
the to the Little Sisters of the poor and the blind?
And you're like, okay, I don't do that. Yeah. The
worst is that it's not that I don't give you charity.
I don't like when I'm going to go to a
store to buy potato chips. I don't want to be
you know, shaken down for a charity donation. I'll donate
(37:38):
to charity, but to me, that's not it's it's not appropriate. Yeah,
you know. The worst is Panda Express. So especially if
you pay on a devor to credit card for food
at Panda Express, and let's say that the total was thirteen,
they always asked, do you want to round up? Oh,
you donate to change? Do you want to donate to
(37:59):
change to to children's health benefits? And so that that's
not rounding up, that's you charging me an extra eighty
seven cents for for charity. It don't give me that ship.
So yeah, yeah, I'm the I'm the same way, but
apparently we're heathens and many people do this. According to
the the research, almost half of people. I guess that
explains why so many stores do that, because it works.
(38:24):
Dollar here, dollar there, adds up man, Penny's to Heaven, right,
Penny's to Heaven. All right. Thirty nine of Americans believe
that wearing green on St. Patrick's Day will do this
give them good luck? Uh no, actually increase their chances
of meeting someone special. I could believe that not this year, though,
(38:47):
not this past St. Patty's Day, because most people weren't
going out. Let's see live in Mississippi, Texas or Florida.
That's true. According to a study, age forty one is
the average age when you're too old to be doing this.
What is it going to clubs? Yeah? Pretty much dancing
in public, which I count as a going to a club.
(39:09):
Now have you ever been to Have you ever been
to New Orleans for Marty Garras? I have not. My
wife wants to go. I will get to the Bayou
at some point. I I have not been to New Orleans.
I have not done any time. And Louisiana. I have
a friend that I used to work with in in
radio that lives in New Orleans. He loves it. Yeah,
the Cajun food man. That's a big regret at his
(39:31):
sister that went to school down there, and I never
went to visit. It's a huge regret. Well you've been
there now though, right, No, never, you've never been there.
You never huge regret. Yeah, well, why don't you go.
We can have a Mallard meeting greet. We could do
the podcast from some bar on Bourbon Street. That'd be great.
(39:52):
Are you do you like Jambalaia? No? No, no, I
actually hate most of the New Orleans theme foods. But
I do like the the pull Boy, I like that.
I like the Kingcake. But we had a woman named
Barbara in New Orleans who sent us a king Cake.
Oh god, it was great. You never had a kincake? No,
but I was just thinking, like, your your stomach is
(40:12):
not gonna be able to endure that food because you're
gall bladder being removed. Uh. Well, I don't really eat
much anyway because of my fasting neurosis that I've got,
but I would enjoy any I go and eat a
couple of meals there a day and fast the rest
of the time. I don't know if you can hold
it though, right, because it isn't the majority of that
(40:33):
food like tangy, spicy. Yeah, everything in moderation, my mind.
Moderation my mind. If you're going down there, and I
don't think anything's in moderation, especially the green, the green, blue, red,
and the beads, all that you throw around into the
lad has that been canceled? Is got into that? And
not yet? I'm sure we'll here it's it's wrong, it's
(40:54):
promoting this that the other thing, and shouldn't be doing
this and blah blah blah blah blah. All right, Uh,
this happened more in the last two minutes than the
entire nineteenth century. What is it? I'm gonna say more earthquakes. Nope,
(41:17):
people taking pictures because everyone's got a camera. About everyone's
got a camera, got a smartphone, you got a camera.
Think about that, though, in two minutes, more pictures taken
than an entire century. What sex takes more photos? Men
or women? I would think women like do the whole
(41:44):
selfie thing, look at me, But dude, you do the
same thing now, So I've gotta be neck and neck.
But I'm gonna give an edge to the ladies. What
would you have the answer? You just bring that out.
I'm just curious because we like to document stupid ship
that we do. But yeah, that's true. Well women do
that too, but then they also, you know, you get
the look at me. You know you can yea, if
(42:06):
you're a good looking woman, you can make a killing
on Instagram and the fans only pages and all that. Jeez,
there are so many women on Instagram that look or
try to resemble Kim Kardashian. Is absolutely jaw dropping to me.
I cannot can not all these years later that they're
still trying to be like Kim Kardashian. Some of them do.
They just look like knockoff versions of her. Of course
(42:27):
she looks like a knockoff version of someone else. But
but but still, do you not find that type of
look attractive? I do find it attractive, but I just
don't find it. I don't find it unique. Well, yeah,
you don't want to be unique? But excuse me, what
was that? You do not want to be unique in
that world? Right? Because people go they're looking for a
(42:49):
certain certain type. Yeah, for sure of appearance. All right,
A let's see your page down page. A new survey
says half of Americans have not change this in at
least three years. What haven't we changed? I'm gonna say, toothbrushes. Um,
(43:11):
that's disgusting. And no, uh, the answer is your voicemail
message on your cell phone. Yeah, I haven't changed mine
a long time, but I don't even know what my
message is on my cell phone. If you go to
a voicemail, I have no idea. Yeah, you just have
the electronic or the electronical. Yeah, okay, I didn't know.
A recent survey found at least of men, at least
(43:37):
of men don't know their partner's favorite one of these
what is it? Color? Flower, flower, flower, flower power? I
do not know. You probably should know that for certain
events might come in handy there. A new report claims
more than nine of people don't washed this properly or
(44:02):
often enough. What is it their feet? Uh? No, they're
they're pillows. Do you ever wash pillows the cases? Yeah?
I don't know. If I've ever watched the pillow itself though. Yeah, Well,
here's the deal. I love cooling pillows because I I
like to stay nice and cool while I'm sleeping. Most
(44:22):
people do, and so these cooling pillows. My favorite cooling
pillow though, which actually got from sleep number. They're not
an advertiser right now on our show, but sleep Number
sent me a pillow when they were an advertiser, and
I love that pillow. It was the greatest cooling pillow
I've ever gotten. I used it so much. You gotta
till a little dirty and all that, and so the
(44:43):
wife's like, I'm gonna wash the pillow, so she did,
and it has never been the same. The cooling of
that pillow has never been the same. I still use it,
but it's just not it was. It was like an
ice box before, and now it's like melted ice. It's
just not the same. It's just I'm still upset about that.
(45:04):
And I've tried to replace it with other pillows and
I've been unable to find that same amazing cooling pillow.
And I've tried a bunch of them. I've tried bamboo
cooling pillows, I've tried you name it, We've tried it,
and I haven't been able to to find it. All Right,
last one here, last one. The T shirt was originally
invented for men who couldn't blank. Um, who couldn't blank? Um?
(45:34):
Who couldn't I don't know, who couldn't shoot? Who can't shoot?
Makes no sense? I don't know. Yeah, by you Uh,
it was invented for men who couldn't sew. So the
T shirt was invented in the early nineteen hundreds for
single dudes bachelors who didn't know how to sew or
(45:55):
replace buttons on the on the shirt the regular shirt
that they had before that. Do you know how to sell? No?
Do you know? Do you know any domestic skills that
you know? How to fix a car? Well? You do not.
Like my dad, my dad's my dad, my grandfather was
(46:16):
a mechanics, so my dad can rebuild a lot of
parts in the car, engines, carburetors. Do you have any
any plumbing you know? Can you fix some plumbing issue
a little bit? Yeah. I helped my parents house to
help install an entire sprinkler system front and backyard. That's nice. Yeah,
I did. My grandfather was it was a plumber. But
(46:39):
I think it's skipped a couple of generations because I
don't have to have the What about electricians? You got
any electricians in the family? No, No, that's another one.
These are all things if you you can do them,
would save you a lot of money. Yeah, And you know,
people don't celebrate the electrician or the trash man or
(47:02):
you know, the handyman, but when you need them before,
they yeah, you know. It's it's like the story that
Vince Scully told years ago. We were name dropping here,
but he was talking about growing up in New York
and living in New York during the UH there was
a sanitation strike in Manhattan and the trash was trash
(47:26):
piles up in New York City anyways, disgusting, but the
sanitation crew was on strike and it was around Christmas,
and Vince said he remembers as a as a young guy,
people were so desperate to get rid of their trash
that they would get these big you know, TVs were
massive back in those days. And they get these big
TVs and boxes and when they take the TV out
(47:50):
and they fill the box with their trash, wrap the
box and leave it out on their doorstep of their building,
and someone would come steal it. They take their trash away.
How great is that? It's correct? That's real good man,
That is really good, smart, pretty pretty solid. All right, Well,
(48:10):
I think that's that's it. We'll put the baby to
bed for Saturday. We got the mail bag on Sunday,
guestcon did we forget anything? Are we good? To go
on this. Yes, anything you want to promote. No, no,
I guess we could promote We could promote Jay Scoop
and Just Josh with the was it the Mallard Odyssey? Yes,
the Mallard Odyssey and we if you missed, Jay Scoop
was on the Friday podcast. Was great to talk to him.
(48:33):
We'll have to get Just Josh on at some point
as well, some of these other Mallard Militia guys. Now
that we forced guests Gon to do that out of
his comfort zone. So anyway, have a great rest your Saturday.
