Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, Joel Malcolm four w j n O dot com

(00:02):
and my election spotlight is on the Port of Palm Beach. Now,
there uh are three port races in this election cycle,
Groups one, two, and three, but one and three are
not having are not having primaries.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (00:19):
But we do have one in the Port of Palm
Beach Group two race where you have three Democrats running
and then in November they'll have a writing candidate and
a Republican as well. But we're talking to one of
the three Democrats running in this race, Kelly Fleury. Thank
you for joining me.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
Sir, Oh, it's a press j all right, let's get.

Speaker 1 (00:41):
Some background information on you. Tell us any anything you'd
like to share regarding your bio.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
Well, this is doctor Kelly three. I'm in covid Imo
seving DIC. Uh my background. How you have my PhD,
my JD degree, my masses of LA and US rule

(01:09):
from Fluids School. I have my n degree. I'm the
former family mediator for the super Quota. I'm the president
of the dead Man Tree Fundation. Uh for the president
of the c MME. Uh. Yes, I'm here to shave
my community. I'm running because I went to give back

(01:33):
to Pumbach County.

Speaker 1 (01:36):
For folks that you know might look at this race
on their ballot and go, what what the heck is
even the Port of Palm Beach Commission? You know, I
mean we know the port, we go on the cruise ships,
you know, the margaritability or whatnot. But you know, what
exactly does the Port Commission do? How would you enter that?

Speaker 2 (01:59):
Wells for commission? And what we do? We we supervised
you know, what are going on at the ford, the
uh uh the contracts uh uh uh. You know, we
have a huge revenue of nineteen million dollars a year,
so we were kind of uh supervising those operations. So

(02:23):
actually we kind of uh as I said earlier, overseeing
things that are being at the four.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
Okay, so as far as uh your background, but by
the way, and and and kind of back up a
little bit when you mentioned the Florida Supreme Court, what
was you were a mediator for the court? Is that
what you is that what you did for the.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
Floyd But yes, that's what that's.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
Explain that a little bit better. So what is it
you actually well, you.

Speaker 2 (02:51):
Know, if if there issues with uh you know, uh corpos,
what's the war us so we want to make sure
we we we get in and try to mediate, okay,
before they even go to court. That's what we do.
And most of the time, you know, we have the

(03:13):
opportunity to set things down, settle thing down for them. So, uh,
families U with have issues and we will come in
and he about before they even consider going to too good.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
What is but what does that have to do with
the Supreme Court?

Speaker 2 (03:32):
Well? What the Supreme Court is in charge of that?
The Supreme cot is they want in chage of all
the mediators really not actually yeah not actually the quote
the quote, but we we the idea wants to license sours.

Speaker 1 (03:49):
Okay. So with experience at that what how how do
you feel that might benefit you? Uh, to hit the
ground running if you were elected as a port commissioner.

Speaker 2 (03:59):
Well, you know, being a good mediator can help Joe
because remember we have so many tenants and providers at
thefought and and and you know people who are coming
for business. Uh So if we have somebody who has
you know, the experience and radiator and radiating thing, I

(04:21):
think that could be a good asset for deport.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
Now, the incumbent in this race told me that she
is the only attorney in the race. Is is a
mediator not an attorney?

Speaker 2 (04:33):
Well, you don't have to be an attorney to be
a mediator. You can have a master and you a mediator.
But I have a jety degree. I have a Mass
of Law and US degree, So I think I have
more than you know needed to be a mediator. So yes,
of course he's yeah, she's a lawyer, but she doesn't

(04:54):
have a master.

Speaker 1 (04:56):
So but you're not officially a lawyer though, correct, But
you have the Master of Law degree. I'm asking this
because I don't understand how all of that works, so
I'm trying. I don't think a lot of people do.

Speaker 2 (05:06):
That's right? Yes, no, no, no, I do not buy
So what did I might? What is so?

Speaker 1 (05:11):
What is the degree that somebody who is practicing as
a lawyer, what would they have or would they have
the same degree? You're just not on the bar to
practice basically, Well, they have to they have to see.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
The bar and and boss pass it and then you
know they can work. God's a lawyer, so you can.

Speaker 1 (05:29):
So you can do mediating without passing the bar. So
you haven't passed the bar? Is that correct?

Speaker 2 (05:34):
That's right, that's right, you need to tell the massive
and anything and you find it's because and be a mediagent.

Speaker 1 (05:41):
So the only thing you haven't done is what it
sounds like is you didn't pass the bar. I don't
know whether you attempted it or not, but that's that's.

Speaker 2 (05:48):
It, right. No, No, you know I'm doing other things
that I think you know and just seel you know
I'm needed because I try. I'm chopping as well. Uh
you know wing right for people? Yeah, I was for
high space, you know, heading an impact on people's eyes.

(06:10):
You know, I mean people are going to die. So
I think you know, I feel comfortable doing that. That's
why I do not practice.

Speaker 1 (06:18):
Okay, what what? What is something that if you were elected,
that you know you feel like needs to be either
changed or improved at the at the port or or
or just something that you you think could be done better.

Speaker 2 (06:40):
I think we need to when people to the next level.
Uh you see, Uh, the part is so behind. We
need to see the port. The part cannot compete with
other ports now because you know they're not they do
not have the technology. You know, the part is not

(07:00):
deep enough. So you're gonna work on that, Okay, And
we have so much money, and that you and the
people are living like nobody. If you go to the gate,
you see how the people are living. Okay, you go
to the park, the beautiful town of the park. People
are living in poverty and we have nineteen million dollars

(07:21):
a year. So we need to bring some changes in
people's life.

Speaker 1 (07:26):
Yeah, you have on one of your campaign brochure as
I'm running to help bring businesses to the port and
create local jobs. I guess that's what you're alluding to.

Speaker 2 (07:36):
Correct. We had a debt about three weeks ago and
Pumbridge guidances which I want. I want the debt. And
on that day bit I watched somebody, a big businessman
from Mississippi to come because those people will help me
to bring businesses. Report Now, Joe, I have an idea.

(08:01):
We have just who's one designer? Just one? And I
want to be more designers to the floor. Uh. I
want to do the revenue of the ford. I just
want up being businesses. And I'm gonna do it because
I have so many people who are willing to work
for me to make it happen.

Speaker 1 (08:22):
All right, And and I'm gonna ask you this question.
It's it's my standard, my my typical election interview question
that I wrap up with typically, uh. There are three
candidates here, including the UH. The incumbent who has not
been we should point out, has not been elected to
this position at this point. She was appointed to UH

(08:44):
fill the remainder of a of a term for a
former commissioner, but she is running for a full term.
You also have one other candidate in this race as well.
This is the Democrat primary. Then you're going to have
a Republican. There's a right end candidate in November. Why
should folks choose Kelly Flurry for the port? In a nutshell,
why overall should you be the best candidate? Should you

(09:05):
be the one they vote for?

Speaker 2 (09:07):
Yeah, because I'm the man. I'm the man we was
able to bring deport to the next level. She for
twenty five years, I was the president of fifty judges
across the US, and I've done so much for those judges.
And I'm going to send you know, strategies to making
sure that I brank business report. I do what I

(09:30):
sup wished to do to bring deport to the next level. Now, look, Joe,
we have my opponent. I've been there for two years.
She has not done anything for the people. You know,
she has done anything. I have a very sad doors
to be westernsat right now, Okay, I respect her, but
she has not anything. It's just time for her to leave.

Speaker 1 (09:52):
And now she had told me then come and told
me that the port tripled it's not profit in the
first year she was in office. Is that not correct?

Speaker 2 (10:03):
Well, you look, you know you're not fuggets. This is
an election time. People will tell you anything that they
feel like you want to hear. But that's not true,
you know. I mean the board has only has created
only fifty jobs and very sass leadership thirty five fifty

(10:25):
fifty five or fifty jobs. And she wants to take credits,
you know, the tenants credits. Oh, I do decide? Do know?
She has not done anything anything, And you know the
record is not lying. She has not done anything. She
didn't have a platform, as you know if you check
it out, she did not have a platform. Or I

(10:45):
want to move manacreen, this is not this is what
is that? You know, she doesn't do anything for the people.
I'm going to change things. I'm going to make things happen.
I've done it in the past, and I do not
see why I couldn't do it today. If given a chest,
I saidcted Joe, I'm telling you you're gonna see so

(11:06):
many changes at the Port because now the port is
in trouble. The port has that kept its pro message
to the people.

Speaker 1 (11:15):
All Right, anything else for you wrap up?

Speaker 2 (11:18):
Well, thank you very much for the opportunity, and I
know I can, god honest the people's vote to go
to the Port and bring the changes that I really
really really need to bring to the port because we
love the port. We need to save the port, all right.

Speaker 1 (11:37):
Port A Palm Beach Group two candidate for the Democrat primary,
Kelly Flurry, thank you for joining me here on wj
NO dot com.

Speaker 2 (11:45):
