OWEN O'Neill Ceo Of Clinics. Can help, good morning, good,
(08:57):
morning hey thanks for coming, in allways lots of things
happening in town and with. You guys so tell the
LISTENERS and i What is Clinics Can help and.
Speaker 3 (09:06):
It's a enough for profit five OH. One c three
THAT actually i started as a hobby back in two
thousand and two and it. TOOK off a short story
is that by twenty eleven we had a roof over
our heads and we were open full time and we've
been providing medical equipment and supplies for children and adults
in need over. Twenty. Years now it's all about making
(09:27):
sure that every child adult in our community can have at,
the walker, the wheelchair the hostile bed, they need because
when you have access to the appropriate medical equipment that,
you need you, heal faster with a greater chance, of
recovery a decreased chance, of injury and the mobility and
the independence and the dignity to get, a bed get back,
to school get back. To work and so it's just
all about.
Speaker 2 (09:46):
Health EQUITY and i like that you say it's health equity. In,
Action yes so like you were actually going into patients
seeing patients in their homes and they would have hostile bed.
Hospital bed where are they going to do? With it
so the hostile bed citty either in the corner of
the living room or out in the grush in. The
way they don't need. It anymore they.
Speaker 3 (10:05):
Don't, need it and they don't want to. See it they.
Speaker 2 (10:08):
Do so they can help.
Speaker 3 (10:08):
Somebody else and that was the big THING that i was.
Surprised by people had equipment they wanted, to donate and
they also really wanted to see it help, somebody else
and so it just kind of. Took off that was
back in two thousand. AND two i think by THE
time i refused the, THIRD person i, Was, like, okay
look this just. KEEPS happening i keep people keep offering
me this. Medical EQUIPMENT so I guess i should just
(10:29):
take this wheelchair and walker and put in the back
of my truck and do something.
Speaker 2 (10:33):
With it and then evidely you're going to go to
another client who does need it and is under insured
or not insured enough and. Needs, that yeah.
Speaker 3 (10:42):
And it happens all. The time even people with good
insurance going to have trouble getting the equipment. They need
AND that's i mean just not too, long ago had
a gentleman come in for an adaptive stroller for, his
son and, you know he, had insurance but he got tired,
of waiting and so he came to us and we
set him up with what. He needed his son has
the adaptive stroller, he needs and and he's been a
(11:05):
big support of. Our sense so it works out.
Speaker 2 (11:07):
Pretty well and then an, interesting note as his son
grows and needs a bigger size, or whatever they can
then donate the one they have. Now, back yes you
can recycle that and repurpose it for another child at
that age range and help him get one that's better
for his. New.
Speaker 3 (11:23):
Size, exactly yeah it happens all. The time but no,
children grow that's what the older. Children do and the
children who needs a wheelchair doesn't grow. Any slower so
it's and so it's a real. Common thing we'll give
someone a. Small wheelchair family comes back and needing, A medium,
no problem here's your. Meeting wheelchair. Thank you they give
us back, A small we clean up the, small wheelchair
(11:43):
we give it to, another family, and meanwhile that first
show continues. To grow they come back for our, size large,
you know and it just it just. Keeps going and
so there's a huge need for. Medical equipment it's very
expensive and especially when we talk about, for children they
outgrow it in.
Speaker 2 (11:59):
A heart like, you said you empower folks in the
community by providing this medical equipment that. They need so
IT'S Called Dm Durable, Medical, equipment yes and includes a
wide variety of things, like, walkers.
Speaker 3 (12:12):
Walkers, wheelchairs, crutches canes and, you know walkers are so many.
Different kinds so knee walkers are very popular. Right now
they sort they've sort of replaced crutches and people don't
really need crushes so much as if you can get a.
Knee walker but a knee walker can cost three hundreds
to six, hundred dollars and, so yeah they're. Pretty expensive
so if you, need one, you know it's, you know
(12:34):
it's pretty important that you, have one and so but
we were able to provide. Those regularly hostile beds are.
Very common, oxen, Concentrators nebulizers so if you have a
son who has asthma and you need to have a
nebulizer on hand so your son or daughter, can, breathe well,
you know you don't may not want to have to
pay ninety one hundred dollars for. A nebulizer just, you
(12:54):
know you come, to us we can provide you, with one.
NO problem I think i already mentioned, oxen concentrators BiPAP and.
Seatpap machines if you have sleep aptan and you're, not
sleeping which is not good, for you but you can't
afford a seapap machine because they cost eleven, hundred dollars
you can come to us and we'll give you A
good seatpap machine that has been cleaned and ready.
Speaker 2 (13:14):
To go so how does? That WORK say i FIND
out i have sleep APNEING and i need a Seapap
and i'm under INSURED and i can't. AFFORD it i
have some insurance but. Not ENOUGH do i? Call YOU
do i go to? The website how does that?
Speaker 3 (13:27):
Process work you can definitely you can definitely apply online
at our website that clinics can help. Dot org or
you can just call and then we'll set one aside
for you and just we have to come on in
within two days to pick up. The item it's a one.
Page application we don't turn. Anyone away we have a
policy of, universal availability meaning no one gets, turned away
and we can give you. That, item now for certain
(13:49):
items SUCH as i mentioned a seapap machine or an
oxen concentrator or a, power wheelchair we do ask for
a doctor's order, for that but those are actually very easy.
To get that's not something that you have to work
very hard to. Get all you can call it doctor
and they'll they'll they'll email you something.
Speaker 2 (14:03):
Very. Quickly, oh absolutely they want the patient to have. That,
task yes so it.
Speaker 3 (14:08):
Works out, you know that's never been a. Real problem
i've never had it in the twenty. Years now we've
never had to be a.
Speaker 2 (14:13):
Real issue, so obviously if folks can afford, to pay.
They do if, they can't they can still get the equipment. They,
need yes that's, the EQUITY which i think. Is, fantastic
yeah it's a.
Speaker 3 (14:23):
Wonderful have adving access to the appropriate medical equipment is increasing.
Health equity it's all oout making sure that everyone has what.
They need it's because access to appropriate medical equipment is
a tipping point in. Medical care when you, have it
you can, heal again, heal faster get a chance, of
recovery decreased chance of injury, or decompensation and the mobility
and independence to get out, of bed which is all
(14:45):
about preventing social.
Speaker 2 (14:47):
Social isolation oh, absolutely yeah because if you can't, get
out you can't, go anywhere then that leads, to depression
which your prognosis.
Speaker 3 (14:55):
Even, worse yes exactly the, physical health it can definitely
affect your mon. Mental health so there's so many different
things we. Can provide we provide any kind of medical
company we need in the home that's durable, medical equipment
but even supply such as. Colostomy supplies that's not something
that a lot of people like to. Think about but
if you have a colostomy and you don't have the
(15:16):
bags of the wafers and you don't your insurance isn't.
Covering that if you don't have that in particular insurance
and you're already tight, on funds well you don't want
to be stuck without your the bags and waifers you
Need you otherwise you can't go to, the store you
can't go to, the library you can't all these wonderful
events you've, Just listed you can't go to The north,
and yes there can be issued so so there can
(15:40):
be a free class over there at the gardens and,
you end but you can't take advantage of that because
you just don't have the colossomy bags that Shouldn't be
and so we're actually able to actually provide a lot
of supplies to people who could not afford them otherwise
because they're on a limited income and they don't have
the insurance or the insurance simply. Won't cover and. It's
ridiculous insurance will not cover so. MANY items a lot
(16:03):
of people think that. Insurance will the limitations on what
the insurance will pay for and when.
Speaker 2 (16:09):
Is, baffling oh it is. Very true i've gone through
some of that myself with the different insurance plans over.
The year some do and. Some don't IT'S like i
would think everybody would, cover everything but that is not.
Speaker 3 (16:19):
The. Case NO if i can hear a, QUICK story
i had a young woman in my office and she.
Was crying she was there with her aunt and she
was trying to get a hostile bed for her father
who had cancer and he could not get a. Hospital,
bed well if you have cancer and you can't get a,
hostile bed give me a how how do you get a?
Hospital bed the car just wouldn't. Provide it so but
(16:42):
we were able to provide her with a hospital bed for.
Her father and so just, you know just again it it.
IS baffling i don't want to get into the politics.
Of things just to insurance is, you know it. Is
ridiculous it costs too much and provides.
Speaker 2 (16:59):
So little so obviously folks. Need help they go to
the website Clinics can help. Dot org they fill out,
the application then they reach out to you and if
it's a, small item they can come there and pick. It,
up yes it's a, large item, they'll deliver we can.
Deliver yeah and then also, the reverse if they have,
large items you can come pick them up and.
Speaker 3 (17:18):
Bring, them yes we do have a we have a
truck and a crew that goes up picking up items.
Almost daily and usually it's hostile beds and, power wheelchairs
but some of the larger items such as patient lifts
and and different Kinds of jerry chairs chairs that are
actually patient can sit and. Protect themselves so these are
those items are larger and they have.
Speaker 2 (17:37):
Some weight kind of hard to get that in the
back of. THE city i.
Speaker 3 (17:39):
Guess it is a little a.
Speaker 2 (17:40):
Little difficult so that's great that do you offer that
service so to pick it up, as well so it
makes it even easier. For them to help donate and
RECYCLE and fyi doing it this way another service you
provide for. The communities you're keeping all of these things
out on, The, landfill yes and.
Speaker 3 (17:56):
We both so it's a it's a great way to reuse,
medical equipment that of letting go. To waste and it
helps so many people and such a simple concept because
there is, so much such a surplus of medical equipment
and there is such a great need and we just connect. The.
Speaker 2 (18:11):
Two one, of course speaking, of need you guys over
the years have identified other needs in. The community so
you have a thing Called a. Kinder, program yes so
what's INVOLVED in i THINK that i know, there's babies
cribs involved, In.
Speaker 3 (18:21):
That yes.
Speaker 1 (18:22):
There.
Speaker 3 (18:22):
Are Well The kinder project is our outreach to the
children with special needs Here In. Pombage county so we
provide all kinds of adaptive equipments such as, adaptive wheelchairs,
adaptive strollers adaptive, shower chairs. Positioning chairs there's actually a lot,
of devices including braces that. We provide we actually helped
out it was a two hundred and fifty six children
(18:43):
with special needs just. Last year we also provide cribs
now and that's to any family of an infant or
newborn that simply cannot afford a safe sleeping environment for.
Their child and we've been doing that since, twenty ten
and last year we actually provided eleven hundred new pack and,
play cribs the most we've ever. Provided Before and i'm
(19:04):
just so grateful and so proud and grateful that we've
been able to. Accomplish that so thirteen eleven hundred children
eleven hundred, excuse me infants and newborns actually had a
safe place to sleep because of. That project and, with
that along With Our kinder project to it's thirteen hundred
over thirteen hundred children we were able.
Speaker 2 (19:22):
To help that. Is fantastic so good job and. Thank you.
That's fantastic so of course you aren't charging folks if they,
can't pay so somebody has to help pay, for this
so people can make donations or you do really. Cool,
Fundraisers YES so i know we've talked in the past
about the golf tournament and there's the fundraising luncheon For
The kinder project and things, like that but you have
a new one, coming, out yes and this is what
(19:43):
the second year, for it.
Speaker 3 (19:44):
The Second annual Clays for kids clay shoot and it's
gonna Be on march Seventh At Palmache County Shooting, sports
complex and it's going to start at eight am and
go to about. One thirty and please come on out
if you'd like to shoot bus, some clays come on out.
With us it's a. Good time and it's. For anyone
this is a clay usually for an expert marksman or
(20:05):
someone who's new brand new's never done. It before there's
a safety brief briefing and the people who can teach
you how to. Do it and it doesn't have to.
Be intimidating that's the. WHOLE thing i think, some people
some people get are interested, in it but they're intimidated by.
The idea it doesn't have to be, you know it's
it's a lot. OF fun i.
Speaker 2 (20:24):
Still got it's, a fun really fun way to learn
something new if you don't. Know, how yes and raise
money for a. Great, program yes it is something because
all the things you do. Are fantastic so it's going
To be. March seven, you said start to? What time?
Speaker 3 (20:36):
Eight AM do.
Speaker 2 (20:37):
I sign up ahead? Of TIME can i just? Show
up how does?
Speaker 3 (20:39):
It? Work yes you can. Sign up you can sign.
Up online that's probably the best way to sign up
is online and you can register right there individual shooter
or you can have a team. Of four and for
people who've never been to a, CLAY shoot i do
tell them it's a lot, like golf believe it. OR not,
i mean there's some.
Speaker 2 (20:55):
Snack talking the idea.
Speaker 3 (20:56):
You have a little, snack talk you've got your you
can you can play As an you're gonna have a team.
Of four there's, different stations fifteen stations and uh and
there's games along the way with, the stations and to
make it a little bit. More interesting and there of
course there's gonna be a raffles and silent auction and
then involved, with that and you have to meet. The
kids some of the kids are our kids are gonna be,
out there so you get to meet our clients and
(21:18):
who we help and see what. We do so it's
a great way to spend, a day get a day off,
from work guys and lady and ladies. And gentlemen it's On,
a friday and have, some fun help a good cause
and and just and just. All around it's a.
Speaker 2 (21:33):
Good thing so how much does it cost? To participate it's.
Speaker 3 (21:35):
Actually three hundred dollars for an individuals just four times
that for a team four and that's as a. Already,
STANDARD yes, i know.
Speaker 2 (21:43):
Of, course Okay so i've never done the clay, shoot
BEFORE so i come they do the demonstration on. How
to it's it's like a little, round disc right.
Speaker 3 (21:52):
It is it's. So good it's a cool clay Is
around what's WHAT can? I say is how big?
Speaker 2 (21:56):
IS it i.
Speaker 3 (21:57):
Don't know it's about three times the size of the.
Average cupcake how? About THAT and i can?
Speaker 2 (22:02):
Understand that, and uh you go to.
Speaker 3 (22:04):
A station is, very safe and you you you don't
load your shotgun until you're at the station and you
just point in the right direction and pull. The TRIGGER
and i think you'd be surprised how easy it is
and how much fun.
Speaker 2 (22:18):
It is so then you get points for however many. You, hit,
yes okay.
Speaker 3 (22:21):
So you'll you go through about one hundred different clays
and you'll get good points for each each one. You,
hit cool, it says and you score card and it's
when you it's a really good. Oxytocin, release well you're
hitting a moving target and when you realize that you can,
do it, you're, LIKE oh i can. DO this i
WANT to i want to do. This again AND it's
(22:43):
i just did this wow and.
Speaker 2 (22:45):
So WELL and i always encourage listeners to try things,
like this try. Something, new yes there's. No pressure you
don't have to. Be, good no just by, showing up
you're good because you're doing a, good.
Speaker 3 (22:55):
Thing yep and you're helping you and you're helping a.
Speaker 2 (22:57):
Good cause so obviously we have this one, coming up

Different EVENTS because i know they also you have.

Clay, Shoot well i'm really proud to say that our
presenting sponsor Is Gas construction group and so they've been
a supporter of ours for several years now and they but.
They're wonderful not only do they, help us but they
actually support other nonprofits in. Our Community Gas construction group
has just been an amazing part of our Community and
i'm really proud that they're, supporting, this uh this. Clay
shoot but we ALSO Have geo Group And northwestern Mutual
(24:04):
And integrity billing supporting us as this, clay Shoot And
Writer business contractors is going to, be There And Shotgun
shooter supplies has been helping us out with a couple of,
raffle items a couple of a couple of shotguns that
we're going to.
Speaker 2 (24:16):
Raffle off so that's another. Thing too if you have,
raffle items they can reach out. To you for the
silent auction and stuff.
Speaker 3 (24:22):
Like that, oh, yes please we Love silent we love silent.
Auction items that's where we make the money for, the
mission and.
Speaker 2 (24:29):
That's where you get everybody. Involve, shopping yes.
Speaker 3 (24:31):
And so if it's a. Great thing if if if
you're a guy and, you're shooting you can bring your
wife to come to the, silent auction or the other.
Way around if you're if you're, a gallon you love,
to shoot bring your husband maybe he wants to take
part in that. Silent auction we actually have a lot.
Of women it's gonna be shooting. With us we Have,
the honeybells not the whole not the, Whole club i'm sorry,
to say but we've got a couple of teams From the.
(24:53):
Honeybells coming that's a local group of women who clay.
SHOOT together i think. It's wonderful.
Speaker 2 (24:59):
That's fantastic it's just a fun thing. To do and
what YOU'VE described i like. The IDEA and i have.
A question it's like when you do your. GOLF tournament
i know you have like the extra prize for the hole.
In one is there something like that because you said
there's like what fifteen stations for the, Clay, shoot.
Speaker 3 (25:13):
Well there's the most popular contest is Called, green bird
and that's where just one of, the birds one of
your clays happens to. Be green you don't know which one,
it'll be and if you, hit that then you get a,
raffle ticket and that raffle ticket enters you in the
raffle to to win one of our prizes in this
case is a really. Nice shotgun and so it's. Pretty cool. It's,
(25:37):
cool yeah. It's good, it's cool and it's really cool to.
Win too so's going out guys and gals and shoot
the green bird and win. That shotgun.
Speaker 2 (25:46):
VERY cool i. Like it so then you also do the.
Golf tournament so when is That?
Speaker 3 (25:50):
Normally November normally, october nowadays and we're still we're still
getting that. All together but were but our crips for
kids lunch and is set to Be on december fifth
FOR our uh and it's going to be At the
bend this Year In West.
Speaker 2 (26:03):
Palm beach that is a. Lovely location beise if you have,
not been definitely want to check out. The button they
do a lot of cool.
Speaker 3 (26:09):
Thing is nice and their hospitality, is amazing.
Speaker 2 (26:13):
VERY true i. Like it SO now i had. Another
question obviously we've been, talking about like, you know corporations,
can donate folks can. Donate individually WHAT if i have
some time on. My hand do you ever?
Speaker 3 (26:22):
Use volunteers, love volunteers especially for our events now we
let we always need volunteers in the warehouse to help
us with the processing of medical equipment. And supplies that's a.
Big deal and we love to, get volunteers love to
get them. In teams so we'll get. Students in uh
everything from high school to college to church groups will.
Come in uh, oh yes even even medical students will
(26:45):
come IN and uh to do processing and medical supplies
is a great. Team event if, you will you know
we're volunteering for. The day but we also love to get.
Interns in, of course board board members or the highest
level of. Of volunteers so if you want to be
a board Member for clinics, and help please give me.
A call you can email Me at owen at clinicscanhelp.
(27:08):
Dot org but also for, our events so for a
clay shoot and our golf tournament and our crips for,
kids lunch and we do need volunteers to help. Us
out and volunteers are angels, From heaven so if you
would like to be one of our angels, from heaven
please give us a call and help. Us out we would. Appreciate.
Speaker 2 (27:26):
IT well i think it's fun and this would be
a cool thing for the students to get their community service. Hours,
do yes it works out.
Speaker 3 (27:31):
Really WELL and.
Speaker 2 (27:32):
I can, also see like, you said, medical students especially
if they're going for physical therapy or, occupational therapy because
they can actually come and right there and front of
them all the different equipment that they're going to be
running into that the patients, be, using yes and the
concept of the recycling. Of it so then when they
are actually, in practice if they've got a patient that
no longer needs, the walker they know where it can
(27:52):
get donated and put to good use for.
Speaker 3 (27:54):
Someone else, SO actually i think a really good education
for a lot of, young professionals whether it's students are,
physical therapy, occupational therapy or, medical students is just knowing
even the, pharmacy students if have some pharmacy students come
to learn but about what, we do because when you talk,
about nebulizers and that's nebulizers actually. Deliver medicine so it's
just a it's a good way for them, to understand,
(28:16):
you know part of another side of what.
Speaker 2 (28:18):
They do, oh yeah and it's always so much easier
when you have that tangible thing in front. Of you
they can, see it you can.
Speaker 3 (28:24):
Touch, it yes that's, exactly right that three dimensional it
gives You.
Speaker 2 (28:27):
THAT aha i really think. It does, and also like like,
for example like when we talked about coming to the,
clay thing if, you're nervous if you come and you're
a student and you see, that equipment the fear goes
away because it's you just, know, now yes.
Speaker 3 (28:41):
Exactly right and, so yeah. It's good it's a good
reason to come out and volunteer because it will give
you an idea of what's, going on what your profession will.
Speaker 2 (28:48):
Be like and also if you are a, YOUNG professional
i know you do a lot of work, with them
and a lot of them are looking for a charity
that resonates, with them and this particular one resonates with
a lot. OF people i like, to, think.
Speaker 3 (29:00):
So well we help a lot of, people locally and
we're doing something that helps just. About everybody just about
everyone is going to need access to medical equipment at,
some TIME so. I think i think earlier we were talking,
about braces And so i've had to wear a knee
brace in, the past and so it's good. TO know
i KNOW where i can. Get one but many of
the people who have, supported us people who have supported,
(29:23):
us financially have come back to us needing medical equipment,
and supplies and it's a it's, you know it's good
to know that the resources.
Speaker 2 (29:29):
They are, Oh absolutely like we talked for, The show
i'd hurt my knee needed a. Knee brace well before that,
all happened they have me. On crutches let me tell
you what the coordinated uncoordinated person. On crutches, oh my
the kneeler thing would have been. Very helpful that was an.
Option then, BUT yes i learned a lot with that
and the appreciation of the proper equipment for the, right
(29:51):
thing and.
Speaker 3 (29:52):
The cost of, it TOO because i think you mentioned
it was.
Speaker 2 (29:54):
Quite cost one dars for knee brace.
Speaker 3 (29:56):
For, a brace so that's. Eighteen dollars that's just so.
Cost prohibitive and.
Speaker 2 (30:00):
By THE time i finally got it and got to,
physical therapy first day walking into, physical therapy like the
brace has got. TO go i WAS like i just,
got it and, they're, like yeah do you want to
wear it for the rest of your life or do
you want to strengthen? Those muscles so they then support,
You again so the brace way.
Speaker 3 (30:14):
You imagine that and how much that will call it
caught eighteen hundred dollars and how much how many paychecks
is that for so many?
Speaker 2 (30:20):
People months and then you.
Speaker 3 (30:22):
Buy it and then all of a sudden you don't,
need it and so that and that. Does happen people
will buy a piece of medical. EQUIPMENT up a family
who loves their child will easily spend seventy eight thousand
dollars on a piece of medical equipment just to realize
that they don't. Need it but the good thing is
that same piece of medical equipment can help. Another child
and so it's so it's a heartbreak of. That family
(30:43):
i've put out so, much money BUT then i will
we will be able to find another child who really
could use that piece.
Speaker 2 (30:48):
Of equipment so the money to not go, to waste.
Speaker 3 (30:50):
We waste but that's an important thing for families. To.
Speaker 2 (30:53):
Know right, so anyway again we want to stress. For
folks if you, have, insurance great if, you don't not,
a problem you're going to get the equipment. You, need yes.
Speaker 3 (31:02):
That's right we actually have told people people to use
their insurance and they'll let's say you won't. Help us
of course we'll. Help you but, you know if your
insurance is, this good use it by. All means, you
know don't take it to take advantage of what you.
Have there but we know if you want something in
the meantime before your, hostile bed, you know the insurance
provides a hostile bed or provides that, walker wheelchair.
Speaker 2 (31:23):
No, problem oh, very good and that's very good. To
know and again before we go To the Clays for,
kids event when is? That again that's.
Speaker 3 (31:30):
Gonna Be on march seventh At The Palmas Kinny Shooting
sports complex starting at. Eight am actually you can register
as early as, seven thirty but starting at, eight am
and we'll go to about. One thirty and we're gonna
Have smoking gator. Barbecue there so it's gonna have some
good barbecue along With Some lebanese. Coast law so, you
know come on check.
Speaker 2 (31:49):
That out oh that's actually that's worth it. Right, There
yeah i'll, say so fun day out, with friends make,
new friends support a, great cause enjoy, silent auction some rundful.
OF things i think the way if you shoot the
clay and you get the, raffle thing that's going to.
Speaker 3 (32:02):
Be really it's a lot.
Speaker 2 (32:03):
Of fun that would be. Super exciting if you come
on out and try it for.
Speaker 3 (32:05):
The first time and you don't, Get hooked i'll.
Speaker 2 (32:08):
Be surprised i'd be surprised. As well it sounds. Very
fun so for, more information did the email? You call?
