Ballet Palm Beach is starting their season with snow White
and other works, and this isn't the Disney version of

(01:25):
snow White. This is the grim, fairytale, dark and pulse
pounding and it is all brought to life through gorgeous
classic ballet that will be at the Cravis Center October
twenty fourth through the twenty six and other things going on.

(01:47):
The Modular Exhibition at Art's Warehouse is still taking place

Yeah, and our friend Brian is involved with the Little
Shop of Horrors and today's the last day to check
that out. Oh, yes, don't check that out. They actually
made it so cool. You did some of the behind
the scenes staging tours. So awesome, such a cool thing
to go check out.

Speaker 4 (02:51):
Oh and speaking of checkout, just opened this week at
the Cox Science Center. It's Licensed to Spy. It is
an entire interactive exhibition about the spy industry, spying, and
you can go ahead and be your own sort of.

Speaker 3 (03:14):
Double agent detective.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
And I really want us to go.

Speaker 3 (03:19):
Oh, we definitely need to do that's that's right up
our rally.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
I have got to go.

Speaker 4 (03:23):

you can see it now through April twenty six.

Speaker 3 (03:37):
Oh very cool. And then after you do that, you
can go over take a little walk around the Palm
Beach Zoo, check out some of the owls and the
sloths and stuff. Say hi to Wilbur always, Well, where's
my favorite?

Speaker 2 (03:48):
Always?

Speaker 4 (03:49):
And I know that you have, you know, with this
weather suddenly getting slightly more bearable, you have a lot
of cool outdoor things happening.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
I do, indeed, and of course our friends Palm Beach
County Environmental Resources. So many fun things going on. So
coming up Wednesday, October twenty second, so real soon. It
is an off road bike ride, so I know you
love the biking, Elizabeth. And this was gonna be from
ten am till twelve thirty pm at the Cypress Creek
North Natural Area. And then they're doing, Oh, this one's

(04:21):
gonna be interesting Saturday, October twenty fifth at the Winding
Waters Natural Area an Invasive Species walk hosted by the
Grim Reaper.

Speaker 2 (04:32):
Okay, right up there. I have a couple of kids.

Speaker 4 (04:35):
Who are all into yeah, environmental science, and I told them,
you have to go there.

Speaker 2 (04:40):
Now, where would someone go.

Speaker 3 (04:42):
To get more information? You go to pbc ERM dot com.
So and also of us listened there the age appropriateness
and stuff because, like we talked about earlier, some places
are not stroller friendly. So you don't want to have
a little Wii one that you have to carry for
five miles. Nope, So they go check that out. And
there's kayaks ones, there's stand up paddle boards, there's ones

(05:04):
where we actually go do the weeding and get down
in the dirt and like vent some energy that way.
It's very fine. And then Also the more Cammi Museum
has lots of cool things. I have two exhibitions going
on right now through the end of November. One's called
Zodiac Animals, So you go to their Conkin Gallery and

(05:25):
they have a whole little menagerie of all the different
little creatures and so for the Chinese lunar calendar Zodiac,
all the different fun stuff summer and wood and metal earth,
you know, all the years and the five elemental trades.
You learn all about that there. It's really fun. And
they have another exhibition on actually Japanese roof tiles because
some of them are very unique, like when they have

(05:46):
the different animals and stuff. So it's all happening right
now at the more Commi, So simply go to Morecomi
dot org and you can find out all about that
about any upcoming tea ceremonies you might want to participate
in or like the garden Raking, they have other fun
classes as well.

Speaker 4 (06:02):
Oh, that is amazing, And of course our own garden
here in West Palm Beach Mounts Botanical Garden, I love it.
It's a Botanical Garden Bash and that is happening right
now October nineteenth, and they have a lot of fun
things going on, so you can head out today and

(06:25):
kind of get your spooky on through four pm.

Speaker 2 (06:30):
Today and that's at mounts dot Org.

Speaker 5 (06:34):
Cool.

Speaker 3 (06:34):
When speaking of Halloween, the Wellington Green is doing some
fun stuff so on actually on Friday October thirty first,
from five to seven pm. It's free. Family and children
are welcome to come enjoy a safe, dry area to
the trick of treating with all the different shops and everything,
So deb check that out. And of course Saint Lucia
County Library is the Kilmer branch we're talking about this.

(06:56):
It's actually hosting a Halloween costume swap. So if you're
kiddos have outgrown it, take it, donate it to library
and they'll donate it to another kid And that just
helps out, especially with the economy being a little bit tight,
not everybody has all the funds to buy seventeen different
costumes for all the different parties. You can mix a
match and of course, more outdoor things, The Oxpell Eco

(07:20):
Center is working with Environmental Resources in Saint Lucie County
to do some really fun outdoor family Together, Wild Together events.
So the next one coming up is November fifteenth, from
nine am till noon. It's going to be orienteering at
the Petrovis Family Preserve, so learning how to read the

(07:41):
compass and get yourself around without the GPS an old
school map. So that's gonna be it's gonna be a
fun day. For more information, give them a call seven
seven to two, seven eight five fifty eight thirty three
and you can have a nice unplugged day with the kiddos. Yeah,
and more Saint Lucy stuff coming up. This is fun.

(08:02):
On October twenty fifth, it's tenth year of Steam Discovery
with the Indian River Lagoons Science Festival, so I definitely
go check that out. Oh my gosh, there's like seventy
some vendors, all different kinds of folks talking about different
kind of environmental sciences art. There's gonna be the guys
there from Harbor Branch Oceanographic Fau. They have their little

(08:24):
Mammal Rescue Ambulance where they go and rescue the dolphins,
so the kids and the family members can actually practice rescuing.
And they're going to have I believe it's the huge
life size humpback whale, so you can walk inside, but
you can also see like the insides and outsides of it.
It's gonna be fascinating for people to be able to
actually see that and also see how large it really is,

(08:48):
Like when you know it's big, but when you see
it on land, you're like, wow, that is just massive.
So definitely one of the cool things you can check
out while you're there.

Speaker 4 (08:56):
Oh that sounds wonderful, And I know you were mentioning
outdoors and art. That reminded me. Mark your calendar. The
twenty third annual Juno Beach Craft Festival.

Speaker 2 (09:09):
That is the breathtaking art Walk, but.

Speaker 4 (09:12):
It's all fine craft, which is basically practical art art
that you can use, but it is still handmade by
crafters who are going to be coming from all over
the country on November eighth and ninth, and it will
line the Ocean Road in Juno Beach for about three
quarters of a mile and they have delicious treats and

(09:35):
a green market. It's completely free of charge, parking free, everything.

Speaker 3 (09:40):
And my coworkers Mow and Sally from the Cool Morning Show,
that's their favorite.

Speaker 4 (09:44):
One absolutely because you know it's affordable, but it's also
still breastaking and that is of course November eighth and ninth,
Juno Beach. You can go to Art Festival dot com
to find out more information. Speaking of art and something different,
it's not more outdoor art, but it's indoor at.

Speaker 2 (10:09):
The Norton Museum of Art.

Speaker 4 (10:10):
It's the Tropic Film Festival and that is taking place
again Subtropic Film Festival during Art after Dark, which of
course is the wonderful special activities they do every Friday
night at the Norton. It's Friday, November seventh, and this

(10:31):
year's films, The Python Hunt and The River of Grass
are all going to put a spotlight on the Florida Everglades,
which is really really cool.

Speaker 2 (10:40):
And so that's.

Speaker 4 (10:42):
Our little dose of the Tropics indoors. And one of
the cool things is the winners of the Subtropic Film
Festival are then going to go to the Cultural Council
in downtown Lake Worth, and the Cultural Council this year
is going to have this wonderful I know sometimes because

(11:03):
they're in the art deco building there, they will actually
project movies on the.

Speaker 2 (11:09):
On the walls within.

Speaker 4 (11:11):
Oh cool, and we did even potentially have an off
the wall.

Speaker 3 (11:18):
Nice So where do they go to get more information?

Speaker 4 (11:21):
P Pbcculture dot com or you can just type in
your search Cultural Council for Palm Beach.

Speaker 3 (11:28):
County and all the fun things pop up. I love
it everything.

Speaker 4 (11:32):
They have a list of all of the cultural happenings
like the five hundred million thousand taking place at the
one and only Cravit Center for the Performing Arts. We
have some amazing shows coming.

Speaker 3 (11:46):
Up, so on speaking of that, we also want to
welcome our other guests for today. We've got Keina Gumbinner,
education manager for the Cravis Good Morning, Good morning. So
obviously Elizabeth's got a lot of shows we want to
talk about, but then we want to talk with you
about some of the cool lifelong learning opportunities there are
for the community as well.

Speaker 6 (12:03):
Yes, many people may know that the Cravist Center has
welcomed over three million students to our comprehensive arts education program,
but not everyone knows that we also do offer all
kinds of programming for our adults. We have a program
called Arts Smart, which is a series of arts education
programs that include performing arts classes, workshops, and lectures. They're

(12:29):
tailored specifically for adults and those include this year, so
we've just started offering dance class called Kravis Moves Everybody Dance,
which is a class for adults with disabilities. And we've
also started last week a group acoustic guitar class and
it runs for eight weeks and it's the instructor is

(12:52):
Brendan Lyons, and it is for beginners and intermediate players.
And also the guitar thing.

Speaker 3 (13:00):
So if somebody like me who doesn't really know how
to play, I could sign up for that, you could.

Speaker 6 (13:04):
We do have some beginners. We started off learning how
to hold the guitar. I went down, Yeah, and we
move forward from there. Each week they end up playing
some piece of music, probably that you've heard on the radio,
but you've made it in a more simple manner.

Speaker 3 (13:21):
Very cool. I think that's cool. So obviously they can
kind of sign up for that. They go to Cravis
dot org, so that class has already started. That's cool.
But that's one of the classes you do offer. I
like that it is.

Speaker 6 (13:30):
Yes, we all we will also offer a dance class, acting,
writing lectures, and history a Hollywood icon and renowned interior design.

Speaker 3 (13:44):
Very cool. So speaking of like Hollywood icons and stuff, Elizabeth,
I know there's some shows coming with some really big stars,
Richard Marks and them already came, But isn't there like
some really big comedians coming, like, oh, definitely say something
named Josh maybe.

Speaker 4 (14:00):
If there are any tickets left, Josh Johnson. And of
course anybody who is on social media for any period
of time and happens to scroll past a comedian, Josh
Johnson will then pop up. If you haven't seen him online,
then you might have seen him as one of the
main correspondents for the Daily Show on Comedy Central, where

(14:21):
he's been a writer. But Jeremy Piven, So, Jeremy Piven,
I always think of him. Yes, Jeremy Piven is coming.
They have an entire lineup of both improv and special
appearance comedians throughout the season, but those are two that
are definitely coming up soon.

Speaker 2 (14:42):
I know.

Speaker 4 (14:43):
I saw Fred Armisen there from Saturday Night Live and
it was completely unexpected and brilliant.

Speaker 2 (14:50):
And then of course just have some great comedy.

Speaker 4 (14:54):
But then they had just announced that Diana Crawl is
coming to the Travis and.

Speaker 2 (15:02):
Just NonStop list.

Speaker 3 (15:04):
For and of course Keina mentioned that there's dance and everything,
but I want to see you guys had a big
dance day at the Cravis. But you have another big
fun like block party coming up? When is that November fourth?

Speaker 2 (15:16):
Maybe?

Speaker 4 (15:17):
Absolutely On November eighth, we have the return of the
Cravis Center Block Party, and this is huge every year.
For the past couple of years they have opened up
the entire campus. It's free admission, free parking because the

(15:39):
Cravis does now charge for parking, free admission, free parking,
and something. When I say something for everyone, it has
something for everyone. There is live music concerts and they're
taking place indoors outdoors. We have our cultural partners coming
see Young Singers of the Palm Beaches. Last year they

(16:01):
did a sing along. This year they're going to be
doing something a little different. You have Palm Beach Symphony.
They're bringing their instrument petting zoo. Last year there was
a silent disco. This year we're.

Speaker 2 (16:12):
Doing kind of a lounge thing. You have to see
it to believe it.

Speaker 4 (16:15):
And of course, since this is also a celebration of
multi cultures, there will be Guatemalan kite making and Chaumont
that's this tribal indigenous collective of musicians from New Orleans
and they will be headlining this year.

Speaker 2 (16:37):
And along with them.

Speaker 4 (16:38):
There are going to be some great, highly known local
and regional acts including Surfer Blood which is of course
one of my favorite, the I ninety five Latino Band,
and just music for everyone dancing you name it, and
that will be starting at one pm until eight pm or.

Speaker 2 (17:06):
Just throughout today. You can go to Cravis dot org
for that.

Speaker 4 (17:09):
But the most recent event we have was the National
Dance Day and that actually fell under the Education Department.
And there's even more happenings going on within the Education department,
right Cana.

Speaker 6 (17:25):
Yes, we have some other adult classes that we're going
to offer this year. One is a scene study class.
So if you've ever been bitten by the acting bug,
this is a time for you to prepare a short
memorized monologue and go to this class and you'll receive
some coaching and instruction from the Emeritis Theater professor and

(17:48):
stage director Don Butler. This class will take we'll go
on for eight weeks and it's from six to seven
thirty pm and it starts in January thirteenth.

Speaker 3 (18:00):
Very cool, So they can sign up at Cravis dot
org for that. They can. Yes, I love it.

Speaker 4 (18:03):
I think so cool and you we have so you
have so far we're hitting almost all of the practices
and that's what I love about what you guys offer there.
We have some movement, we have music, we have acting
and writing.

Speaker 6 (18:23):
We have our own writers Academy here at the Kravis Center.
This year, the classes will be offered virtually on the
Zoom platform, but you will be studying with Julie Gilbert,
who is a renowned novelist, a biographer, a playwright, and
a teacher. Just this last year, her latest book, Giant
Love Edna Ferber, had rave reviews, including the New York

(18:44):
Times Best Review Editor's Choice. So beginners can start this class,
you can get put your dip your toes in the
water with kickstart your writing on January fifteenth, and if
you like that class, you can continue on for a
six week course called Right Launch and that'll begin on
January twenty second.

Speaker 3 (19:04):
I think that's fantastic. So I've spoken with Julie in
the past, and I love that it's now virtual, so
even people you don't have to be in Palmage County
to participate. That's fantastic.

Speaker 6 (19:13):
She has students from all around the country that have
moved away and are so happy that they can continue
studying with her.

Speaker 3 (19:20):
Well exactly, that's what I think. Because you're going to
be people that were like former students or like want
to get back and you know, get back in touch
and you know, work on their creativity a little bit more.
I think it's fantastic.

Speaker 6 (19:30):
Speaking of creativity, we do also actually have a dance
class coming up in February, Joy of Movement with instructor
Corey Epps. And in this dance class, you don't need
any prior experience. It's for all levels and everyone is welcome.
You just have to come in and move without worrying

(19:52):
about knowing the right steps or technique. You're just going
to make connections between mind, body, creativity and community.

Speaker 3 (20:00):
I like that. I took line dancing class years ago
with a friend of mine and we went and it
was so much fun. And I have like the two
left feet and I just remember dancing and there's a
gorgeous guy that comes up behind me, taps me on
the shoulder, leans in and says your other.

Speaker 6 (20:13):
Left Well, this is the class for you?

Speaker 3 (20:18):
Then I think it might be. Yes, So can I
sign up with the website for that?

Speaker 6 (20:22):
You can Cravis dot org, slash art, smart oh.

Speaker 3 (20:25):
Or smart Okay, so I need to go to the
art Smart thing. Okay, gotcha, And you can.

Speaker 4 (20:29):
Always find it too when you do a search on
the web page. If you can't remember anything else, just
remember k R A v I S dot org Cravis
like kiss not it's.

Speaker 3 (20:43):
Yeah, okiss well yeah, And I think I'm glad you
mentioned that because sometimes when people search like another vendor
will pop up and those prices are much higher and stuff,
and so I think of the actual Kravis dot org.
It eliminates that. And then and the show's rescheduled, they'll
just reschedule your tickets and all that stuff automatically for well,
they'll be able to do that for you. Wherever you
buy them from an outside vendor, it can be more challenging.

(21:06):
So I always get it a Cravis dot org.

Speaker 4 (21:08):
Yes, And so I know that we have covered now,
we have covered dancing, we have covered writing, scene work,
the movement, the music. There's something really special going on
in the visual arts right now that you were talking

(21:29):
about before we came on aer Kena.

Speaker 3 (21:32):
Yes.

Speaker 6 (21:32):
It's called Jazz and Unexpected Places Untold Stories of Palm
Beach County, which is going to be a new multimedia exhibit,
and it explores how jazz shaped the sound style and
spirit of Palm Beach County during the Civil Rights era
and how it influences continues today. You're going to see
rare photographs, contemporary images, and listen to local oral histories

(21:58):
from the elders in the community, as well as seeing
creative works by our young artists in the area. So
anyone can visit from Monday to Friday from one to
five and discover jazz in everyday life.

Speaker 3 (22:12):
That is pretty cool. And where's that going to be
on the camp.

Speaker 6 (22:15):
That is actually going to be in the Cohen Pavilion
on the second floor.

Speaker 3 (22:19):
And as usual, the cravist comes through because this one's
actually a free one, right.

Speaker 6 (22:23):
It is free for everyone to enjoy it.

Speaker 3 (22:26):
That's as it should be. I love it. So I
like that you have like things that are paid, things
are a very low price, like because I know Ballet
Palm Beach does some twenty dollars tickets so the whole
family can come, get their kids exposed to the arts.
And of course there's different concerts are a little bit
more expensive, but you know it's worth it. But then
you also have the free opportunities as well, which are

(22:47):
also very enriching.

Speaker 4 (22:49):
Well, I think we're just so incredibly blessed to have
an institution like the Cravist Center here. I know, growing
up in South Florida, well, Palm Beach County, we have
at the Leaky TP for the annual Nutcracker. So I
love having that mainstage annual Nutcracker that Ballet Palm Beach

(23:10):
puts on every year. If you haven't gotten your tickets,
by the way, get them. And they do start at
twenty dollars, like you said, but it now does so much.

Speaker 2 (23:20):
More than that.

Speaker 4 (23:22):
And it was such a revelation to me knowing how
vast the Education Department is with everything it does. I
remember at a grant hearing hearing that they were the
largest K through twelve provider of arts education.

Speaker 2 (23:41):
In the county, you know.

Speaker 4 (23:43):
And this was I at the Science Center at the time,
and I knew the thousands and thousands for us.

Speaker 6 (23:50):
But the Cravis Center, Yeah, And it also provides free
tickets and opportunities for kids economic disadvantaged to attend the programs.
The Cravis also provides bussing for all of the field
trip transportations.

Speaker 3 (24:09):
Oh, they provide the bussing. That's expensive. It is so expensive.
My friends that are teachers and they're just like the bus. Yeah.

Speaker 6 (24:18):
In fact, the Cravis Center actually has spent last year
it was a little over one hundred and fifty thousand
dollars in bussing just for the field chips alone.

Speaker 5 (24:28):
Well, that was always it is, That was always a
big for all those teachers out there listening, and even
if you aren't a teacher, might be kind of an education.

Speaker 2 (24:38):
The reason why there are so fewer field trips.

Speaker 4 (24:44):
Than maybe we remember even growing up, it's not just
the testing schedule, it's not just the teach to the exam.
There are a lot of teachers out there and educators
who want to give. They know the importance of arts.
They know the absolute connection between science and the arts,

(25:07):
and it has been proven and proven and proven in
having one benefits the other and vice versa.

Speaker 2 (25:15):
But it becomes sort.

Speaker 4 (25:16):
Of an elective thought, and then you add in an
exorbitant cost for transportation, and it was always a challenge trying.

Speaker 3 (25:26):
To get the schools to us, and just.

Speaker 4 (25:29):
The Cravit Center to be able to offer that is
simply remarkable and a thanks to their donors who have
contributed towards it, because it's critical you can create all
the programming you want. But if these teachers and their
classrooms and their students cannot afford to pay these fees,

(25:52):
they don't get it, and it just removes a massive
barrier for them. So it's really a blessing to everyone
who contributes. And that's because a lot of people don't
realize this, but the Cravis Center is a non profit organization.

Speaker 3 (26:10):
Well, yeah, so of course listening. If you're just a person,
or if you're a company or your big company, you
want to be a sponsor, if you want to sponsor
the bus, you can do that. You can call the
Cravits and say, I would like to sponsor the Josh
Junctions Johnson show. Like they'd have individual sponsors for shows,
plus the tickets and they have like the it's like

(26:30):
there's a ticket price, but to try and keep the
ticket price as low as a nonprofit. The donors help
compensate and then everything all the different programs can happen,
which I think is fantastic.

Speaker 4 (26:40):
But definitely the funding and those amazing, incredible donors that
donate for the Cravis Center education program including that give
towards the Star series, those educational field trip opportunities.

Speaker 2 (26:57):
Your dollars go a long way.

Speaker 3 (27:00):
That's fantastic. So, Keenan, before we go, what is one
class you would recommend people take if they're only going
to take one?

Speaker 6 (27:09):
Wow, I'm going to recommend the Joy of Movement because
I think that is really an introductory part.

Speaker 3 (27:19):
I like that because I'd like the joy of movement
idea too. So you get out, you get moving, You're
going to meet people, so it's social. You know, it's physical,
and you don't have to be good. That's the thing.
I love these things where you can go and have
fun and nobody cares if you're good at it or not.
It's just to be there and enjoy the joy of movement. Exactly.
Very cool. So, miss Elizabeth, do you have a favorite?

Speaker 4 (27:40):
Yes, I would one hundred percent go West, since you know,
our guitar has already started and all of us apparently
