That was really great Stuffian really enjoyed your guest spot
on Monday on Pat McAfee. Thanks so much for the
time you're on with Ryan Dave and of course Shelby Harris.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
How are you man? What's up? Guys? Thank you for
saying that. Yeah, it was I got to be honest,
a little bit of a surreal experience, really really fun.
I was thankful that Pat had me do it, and yeah,
the whole thing was very very cool. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (00:36):
Absolutely. Let's talk a little bit about Russell Wilson. We
talked yesterday in the show about that deal announced yesterday.
The size of the deal. Did I mean he was
thought to be entertaining teams and one of those teams
was the Giants. But did the timing of the deal
Ian surprise you at all?
Speaker 2 (00:57):
I actually thought it'd be earlier, honestly. So here's kind
of the way it broke down. So Free Agency the
Wednesday of free agency. We find out that Russell Wilson
said it is at the Giants and the Browns, and
at that point, you know, the Browns gave him an offer,
and the Giants gave an offer. The Giants offwer was
obviously bigger, and Brush tried as hard as you could
(01:22):
leverage all the different teams involved, including the Steelers. Steelers
never engaged. That was never happening. The Browns had an offer,
but it was really more of like a if you
come cheap, then we'll we'll be okay signing you. If
you don't, it's not going to be us. So you know,
the offer that he signed with the Giants, I mean
the base value is ten point five million. That is,
(01:44):
you know, low bridge quarterback money. It's fine, it's not nothing,
but it's low bridge quarterback money. There's an incentive package,
a really complicated incentive package, and you know, if he
plays great and they make the playoffs, he's going to
have a chance to earn a lot of it if
he does, and he's going to have a chance to
(02:04):
earn none of it. But it's sort of what your
team that says, you know what, we're going to take
a chance on this guy. He's maybe going to be
our starter, but if he's not, it's okay. And you know,
I think combined the Giants have something like fifteen million
dedicated to the quarterback position, kind of allows him to
beave up the rest of the roster. So that's kind
of the way it looks for the Giants and.
Speaker 4 (02:25):
Russ Hey Ian Shelby, Harris, you're nice talking to you again.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
What was up?
Speaker 4 (02:30):
But what's what do you think is next for Aaron
Rodgers because obviously he's the next big QB domino the fall,
but his options seem to be drying up, you know really,
you know by the day.
Speaker 2 (02:41):
Well, we had two interesting interesting things happen in the
last twenty four hours. One was Aaron Rodgers only has
one more team that has an offer after him, and
that's the Steelers. You would say, obviously Rogers going to
sign with the Steelers. That makes a lot of sense, right,
except it hasn't happened yet, and he's going to take
his time. He's told them he's going to take his time.
(03:01):
So basically what it seems like it's happening is this
the Minnesota Vikings Inquasi Dopoments, the general manager came out
today and said, you know, right now, they're not on
Aaron Rodgers. They comfortable with the guys in the room.
But he didn't say it's it's never going to be
a possibility. So, like, you know, my guess is guess,
pure guest, that Aaron Rodgers lands with the Steelers. But
(03:22):
if he waited, he could see what maybe something happens
with the Vikings or aby J. J. Mcarty's knee is
're right, Maybe he does look good. No, ta's maybe
they say, you know what, we've got to sign them.
Like the doors still slightly slightly slightly open in Minnesota.
Not a lot, maybe one percent. But I just wonder
does he jump knowing that, does he jump now to
(03:45):
the Steelers knowing that you know, Minnesota is still a
one percent option. I don't know, he might, he might,
you know, I don't get the sense he has a
deadline from the Steelers, but that's kind of what's going on.
And then I would also say, like, you know, retirement,
it's probably also remote, but at least a possibility for Rogers.
Speaker 1 (04:04):
Ian Robin Board our guest here. So Ian, there was
a report circling around Twitter earlier today that Dak Prescott
and the Browns might be a thing that could be happening.
Is this anywhere related to rober and Kowski possibly coming
out of retirement.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
I would say similar vein, Yeah, it's not gonna happen.
Dak has a no trade clause. Also, there's no talks now.
I mean, if you're the Browns, like, I don't know
that they called out. I never actually no one actually
told me they did. But like I would see why
you would say, you know what, hey, like, maybe we'd
get Dak Prescott as our quarterback. That would make sense.
But if you're the Cowboys, if you're Dak, none of
(04:41):
this makes any sense. So I would say it's literally nothing.
But tis the season, you know, because this is sort
of when all this stuff happens. Oh yeah, I mean
I sort of laughed about it today pectually a couple
of people they all laugh too, and we kind of
moved on, which is okay.
Speaker 3 (05:00):
Hey, last question for me is we sit and we've
talked about it with you before. The free agent the
veteran free agent running backs, There's still there's a handful
of guys out there, and if you look at them,
at least on paper, some pretty good players out there.
Are you hearing anything about any teams and including the
one that we cover on regular basis looking at these
(05:22):
running backs, you know.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
It's a problem because you get to you know, if
you're a running back right now, like like let's say
you're JK. Dobbins, right and I think he's you know,
he's one of the top guys. You also have Nick
Chubb out there. You have some guys with some main value,
Like the money's not really increasing, right, because if you're
a team, let's say to the Broncos, let's say you
need a running back, Well, okay, you can get one
(05:46):
in the second or third round, and historically you get
on in the second or third round, he's going to
be you know, coming and make an impact or really
has a chance to make a really really big impact.
Or you know, I would say there's probably likely two
running backs in the first round. Okay, we could take
one of those and maybe you sort of get a
game breaker, right, I mean, So the problem is if
(06:06):
you don't get swept up early in free agency, if
you hold out, you want more money, You want more money.
Sometimes the money isn't there. So that's sort of the
decision you face. And like if you're a JK. Dobbins,
you got an offer for let's just say, you know,
three to four million dollars. Do you take it right now?
Or do you want to wait until after the draft.
And maybe a team who thought they were going to
(06:26):
get a running back didn't and maybe that price increases
a little bit for the game that's going on now.
But really like there's not a huge upside in signing
if you're a running back right now. Maybe right around
the draft or maybe right after the draft.
Speaker 4 (06:43):
All right, I my last question, and it involves the
Broncos and obviously the Courtland Sutton situation. Just from what
you know, what you know and what you're hearing, is
more likely you think that Courtland Sudden ends up getting
traded from the Broncos other than rather than extending him.
Speaker 2 (07:04):
I would never say never in the NFL because we've
seen all sorts of different versions of this that I've
heard a lot of quot and Sutton trade rumors. None
of them have happened, none of them have turned to
be true. And you know, I mean, I don't know
that anything's actually accelerated. Now. Look, you get to know
the second day of the draft, the team we thought
(07:25):
they were going to get a receiver, doesn't get one,
and they say, you know what, I like Quotland, let
me get him or me extend him. In the sense
of anything like that is happening. You sort of hope
that the Broncos would do something financially for him, but
he already got one big extension. Trying to squeeze an
extra year, extra money out of a team for that
(07:46):
third contract has proven tough to mean, you could do it,
but you've got to be sort of next level. That's
generally the kind of guys who did those third contracts.
So it's an uphill battle. We'll see what lands, but
I would say it's still pretty fluid for Courtland Sutton.
Last one I have for you, Ian.
Speaker 1 (08:02):
I know we're about a month out from the NFL Draft.
I mean as far as how many quarterbacks going in
the first round and or is the possibility that Jackson
Dart finds himself inside the top fifteen. There's all sorts
of rumors swirling around about how these quarterbacks are going
to go. What are you hearing recently?
Speaker 2 (08:20):
Yeah, I mean I could see three in the top fifteen.
Look last year and this one thing I talked about
in the time m I could a show last year.
I knew for a fact that Bonnicks was a second rounder,
and you know that most teams didn't see him in
the first round. Then I find out that the Broncos
take him twelve, and not only that, it was a
team right around them who also considered him to be,
(08:43):
you know, a mid top first round pick. So like,
you don't really get to find out about these quarterbacks
till they drafted, and like you know, there's more misinformation
about the quarterbacks than anyone else, and they all get overdrafted.
So my guess is three in the top fifteen. But
like which I would assume Jackson would be the third.
But like someone could fall in love with Crenewers, you
(09:04):
could go back of half of one. I mean, so
it's tough to really know a quarterback. I know people
say it's a down year. They kind of say that
every year, honestly, So we'll see where it goes. And
that's kind of where all the all the fun is
centered around, no doubt.
Speaker 1 (09:19):
Ian. Always appreciate the time, man, Thank you so much.
Speaker 2 (09:22):
Okay, always great talking to you.
Speaker 1 (09:23):
To take care all right, Ian Rapabor NFL network inside
will react to that. Plus there was some news on
the Broncos today. We got to get to We'll get
to that next
