Speaker 1 (00:00):
Because you're waking up fifth in the morning.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
Kiss.
Speaker 1 (00:04):
In milearning coming up at eight thirty, So not long
from now, I'm your chance to win the lotto tickets,
not lottery. She's flying in Friday, November one for a
show at the Brady, and you'll need the keyword hoarder
to win. Anyone in your family or maybe your friend
circles parents, are they a hoarder? I laugh, and I
(00:28):
joke to keep from crying. I had been talking to
you guys about planning for my dad's estate. We've been
doing that for a while, updating you here and there
on it. I think I had even mentioned late last
week that my stepmother, my father's wife, is in the
hospital due to some health complications. And I'm flying back
to Massachusetts over Labor Day weekend to help clean out
(00:53):
the house. And I ah, there's a lot of emotion
coming up with him. I graduated at college in twenty twelve,
and I pretty much haven't slept in my childhood home
since the day I moved out into Boston with all
(01:14):
my college girlfriends, so well over ten years. I'm gonna
be going back to my childhood home this weekend, and
who knows, I might sleep in the front yard. I
don't know. Thank God, it's a lot out. We love
to keep from crying. I bring this stuff up just
in case anyone else is, you know, experiencing this too,
(01:35):
or maybe has advice or tips. So you've seen TLC
shows about hoarders. I don't think my boomeered father is
that bad, okay, And I know he's probably listening on
the iHeartRadio app today. Hi Dad, I'm you know, letting
it out on the air today because we need some help.
So he's just a part of that generation that collects
(01:56):
things and has things and of course has lived in
this house for fifty years that he bought for like
thirty thousand dollars by the way, and it's just years
and years worth of stuff. But he also hates throwing
things away, so he loves to collect boxes in magazines
and just like little piles of stuff all over the
(02:18):
house is no problem to him. Clutter is no. It
doesn't even see it where my brain and I wonder
if this is just a lot of millennials and gen
z in general my house. You would walk into my
apartment and be like, wow, did you just move in?
Speaker 3 (02:32):
No?
Speaker 1 (02:32):
But I don't decorate. I don't keep clutter around. I'm
Marie Konda, and I think we all learned a lot
from Marie over the pandemic. Everything in my house has
a place, and if it doesn't, I don't need it.
But for some reason, that generation, I don't know if
it's because their parents fought in World War Two and
they held on to literally everything. So I'm flying back
(02:54):
tomorrow night and we have to clean the house out
before my step mother it comes back from the hospital.
And I've been trying to talk to my dad about it,
you know, for years and years, like, hey, you got
to get rid of this stuff. Got to get rid
of this stuff right while you're still mobile, able to
walk around, able to help, instead of just dumping it
all on my sister. And I I said, we got
to do it this weekend, and he's like, wow, well,
(03:15):
I said, we need to get a dumpster. And he's like, well,
you know, it's kind of last minute for a dumpster.
And I'm like, Dad, and I'm trying to be delicate
and sensitive because I'm essentially like I have no remorse.
I'm going to walk into that house and throw everything,
every single thing I see away. I'll leave them with
a T shirt and a bar a dove and be
like here you go five win three seven four nine
(03:36):
one o seven one. If you've got someone in your
family that's going through something similar, maybe you've already done this.
Maybe you have tips and advice for me. He seems
to be open about it. Last thing I'll say on
this is when I was calling him yesterday, I said, hey,
I'm flying in. We're going to clean out the house.
We have to, right, you know, everyone at that age downsizes. Anyways,
you have to get rid of this stuff so that
(03:56):
it's not just left behind in ten years or so whatever.
Knock on wood, right, And he seems to be okay,
But I'm fearful that he's just taking little piles of
things and moving them into other places and hiding them
from me. In the morning. Good morning, you're waking up
with tif in the morning on kissuan oh seven one.
We're a few minutes away from you winning lotto tickets,
not the lottery. I feel the need to clarify that
(04:20):
she's flying in Friday, November one, and you'll need the
keyword hoarder. That's the last time I'm going to say it.
We're in the midst of talking about that right now,
I would say my dad is a part of the
hoarder generation, you know, those boomers hang on to everything.
And I'm flying back into Massachusetts this weekend for Labor
Day to clean out the house. I finally convinced him
after my stepmom went through some medical stuff that we
(04:41):
really really really need to clean out this house. And
I'm terrified. I don't know, I just I need some advice.
You have been super helpful, so we'll start with you.
You're on the air, good morning. I just want to
call in and let you know.
Speaker 3 (04:55):
So way, I actually had a neighbor who had collected
things over the years, so to speak, and that person
ended up suddenly dying and they found her in the home.
But you know, it was several days and they they
(05:17):
had to maneuver around to be able to get her
removed from the home. And it was it was just
such a sight. I mean, it was just horrible, so
sad to see all of all of the things in
her home and you know, and whatnot.
Speaker 1 (05:36):
It just it was, yeah, well, what's your name? What
name are you calling me? Neighborhood?
Speaker 3 (05:42):
You call me from Crystal and from Verona.
Speaker 1 (05:45):
Well, thank you so much for the call, Crystal. I
really appreciate you.
Speaker 3 (05:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (05:48):
Absolutely, we have so many phone calls. I'm trying to
get to as many as i can. Good morning, Thank
you for calling.
Speaker 2 (05:54):
Hey, I have a hoarder mother in law, and my
poor wife been begging her to clean out that out.
There's four bedrooms they can't even go in, and that's
all she does. Try to figure out every weekend, how
can I go down there? Don't come down, don't come down.
Speaker 1 (06:12):
It's wild.
Speaker 2 (06:13):
Your comment was therapy, Thank you?
Speaker 1 (06:17):
I did. Oh well, I'm glad that it helped you.
I did have to go to therapy a little bit
for it yesterday, just to kind of prepare me for
the weekend. I just I don't get it. So it's
really hard. I don't know, do you. I mean, it
seems like you're going through the same thing. So I
don't know if you have advice or tips for us
or not, but it's the I can't see how anyone
(06:38):
would want to live that way. So I'm trying to
meet my dad where he is, essentially, but it just
seems like it's so I would never want to do that,
never want to live like that.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
Yeah, I think it's empathy. You're doing the right thing.
You got to put yourself and just say like, it's
so hard for them to get rid of this stuff.
It's like part of their identity, you know. So you're
doing the right thing. You just got to do it
with tenderness.
Speaker 1 (06:59):
Well, thank you. What's your name? What neighborhood you calling
me from?
Speaker 2 (07:02):
I'm Tom, I'm from Port right.
Speaker 1 (07:04):
Thanks for the call. Tom. Sometimes when I come I'm
a savage not but I am trying to be tender
on this one. All right. I appreciate you. Hey, if
you're going through it, I got you coming up next.
The lotto tickets don't go far because you're waking up
with Tiff in the morning on seven one. Hi, I'm
hoping that you have a keyword for me.
Speaker 2 (07:23):

Speaker 1 (07:24):
Congratulations, you got the keyword and you're calling humber ten.
Speaker 2 (07:28):
Yay.
Speaker 1 (07:29):

this morning? My name's Faith and I'm calling from for it.
