Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're waking up with fifth in the morning. Kiss one
one who knew and maybe you already did know this
that a famous fast food chain restaurant is what helps
the government and FEMA decide who gets what level of
care and when when Stoms roll in. That's what my
dad would say, as Stom's coming. And if you're like,

(00:23):
what a storm, that's a Boston assa accent for a storm.
Hurricane Helene obviously feeling the side effects. Here in Cincinnati,
we have one of these restaurants right in Covington. With
things canceled today, et cetera. It's like slamming Florida and
Georgia right now. But it's called the waffle House Index.
It was created back in two thousand and four and

(00:47):
it's Florida Divisions of Emergency Management program. Basically, they split
the waffle houses into three different categories. Now, waffle House
is known for being open twenty four to seven, and
it's always running joke on social media that when the
waffle house closes during an emergency, you're like, oh my god,
this must be a high level emergency. So they ended

(01:08):
up taking that same I guess ideology and creating this index.
If a waffle house is green, that means it's fully operational,
and that means that they don't need first responders there.
If the waffle house is coming up yellow, it means
a limited menu, meaning they're serving a limited menu but
only limited supplies have been brought to that area. And

(01:31):
then if it's red, it means it's completely closed and
they really like you need the help, like that's the
SOS emergency. When the waffle house has reached the red zone,
and I said, oh my god, no, maybe you knew this,
Maybe you've heard of the waffle house index. This is
the first TI I'm hearing of it. So then I
went down on this deep dive, which admittedly I've never

(01:54):
been to a waffle house. Maybe that should be what
my Should I go to the one in Covington and
be like, are you green, red, or yellow? And see
if I should go? Should I do it? Should we
make that the weekend to do list? But nonetheless, as
I was scrolling through this story about waffle houses, I'm like,
wait a minute, there's so many songs that include the

(02:14):
song the waffle House. First, and foremost probably my favorite lyric.
This is a song called twenty four Hours by t
fly into two chains. Let's see if you remember it.
Aut my p Girl, what a head I used White

(02:35):
Light waffle House is using over fifteen or twenty songs
just from a light Google search across all ranges. So
that was hip hop. There's this song right here. That
song is called My Trap House is a waffle House.
Here's another one. We're going on over to country. Last

(02:55):
time South Caroline, he said, I'm falling over the waitress.

Speaker 2 (03:04):
House.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
That was Toby Keith. Kanye West is wrapped around waffle
house for you. You called now for the Girl of
the Drive in the morning, you realize you have the
Double Tree, not the Aria. Only thing open is spaffle house.

Speaker 2 (03:18):
Gunna start with me. I used to the Union, but
your life is Nope.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
And then lastly the Jonas Brothers they have a whole
song called waffle House. So there you go. The waffle
house meter on TIF in the morning, and I guess
we'll put it in our to do list to maybe
hit up a waffle house this weekend, as long as
it is green, which means fully operational. All right, coming
up next to around nine forty. We do it every day.
The Daily Debrief will choose one big thing that we
talked about on the show today. Honestly, I've never seen

(03:46):
a photo quite like the one out of TSA Security
that my friend sent yesterday. If you haven't seen it yet,
at the Tiff to F's Potter, like the Wizard, tap
through until you get to the last story on there,
because I don't know what's going on. I'm in the
Philadelphia Security, But all I have to say is that's
a lot of candy. You're waiting up with TIF in

(04:08):
the morning. Okay, on Kiss one, it's time for the
daily debrief. I was going to talk about stuff that
you see on airplanes, but I'm just gonna leave that
up to you to look on Instagram at some point today.
I was in tears when my friend sent me this
picture from TSA in Philly last night, trying to get
back to CVG at the Tiff to F's Potter, Like
the Wizard, it's like the last in second to last

(04:30):
photo when you tap through my stories. I was just
chit chatting about waffle House. If you didn't know this,
it was new to me. There's something called the waffle
House Index when it comes to storms and speed and
rate of supplies that go to certain areas depending on
the waffle house. This was created back in two thousand
and four. You'll have to get caught up on the podcast.

(04:53):
It gets posted as soon as we wrap up the show.
If you're super curious about him, sear it's tif Tiff
in the Morning on iHeartRadio. But right now we have
a real life waffle house employee alive on Tiff in
the Morning.

Speaker 2 (05:08):
Hi. Yeah, it's mostly like I did second shift mostly
and a little bit of third A lot of the
drinkers on third shift would come in back in the
day at two, like after the bars closed. The cops
were always getting called showing up because people were drunk.
But times have change. Bars don't stay open that late
over here, and the drinkers decide it's more responsible to

(05:30):
go straight home. And it's never busy. When I did
second shift, like, I was lucky to make thirty dollars
on second shift, and I've eventually I got out of work,
and then I was like, I'll never go back. But
it is a nice and good place to work for
and you have regulars and coffee drinkers, and.

Speaker 1 (05:48):
Well, I have two questions. One, what is the best
time to go to the waffle house if it is
open twenty four to seven.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
Second shift is the slowest time, but you'll get a
lot of the teenagers, so I don't know what kind
of service you'll get. First shift is the extreme busiest time,
and they're slinging food fast and you get all the
prime good servers that have been there for fifteen years,
and you know you're gonna get good service, but you're

(06:17):
gonna have.

Speaker 1 (06:17):
To wait just a tiny bit, okay, okay.

Speaker 2 (06:21):
And then third shift you're gonna get the cook that's
been sleeping, sitting over in the boots, sleeping half the night.
But depends who's cooking. People would call in and ask
who's the cook tonight? Like, God, there, you've been too
much oil or too much grief. Like the food's really greasy.
That's why it's good for after you drink to like
soak up alcohol.

Speaker 1 (06:39):
Well, well, I have one more question for you, then, Well,
if I were to go to a waffle house this weekend,
what should I.

Speaker 2 (06:44):
Order the All Star breakfast?

Speaker 1 (06:47):
The all Star breakfast comes with.

Speaker 2 (06:50):
It comes with your eggs however you want them, and
then your toast, and you get a choice of hash
browns or grits. And hash brown.

Speaker 1 (07:00):
Are the best, okay.

Speaker 2 (07:01):
And then you get ham, bacon or sausages or meat choice.
And then you get a choice of a waffle or
a flavored waffle, or biscuits and gravy.

Speaker 1 (07:11):
Girl, I already know where I'm going this weekend, and.

Speaker 2 (07:16):
I always get the biscuits and gravy and put my
eggs directly on top of it. But if you're going
to waffle house, you probably should get the waffle. And
they have chocolate chip waffles and peanut butter waffles, and
when it is sometimes they'll have strawberry and blueberry, but
they'll just flavor pieces they put in it.

Speaker 1 (07:33):
Well, thank you for well, those are flavor pieces, okay, Well,
thank you for walking me through this. What's your name,
by the way, Stacy, Sacy, thank you for the calling
for listening to Tip in the morning. They were going
I've never been to a waffle house. Maybe I gotta
put that on the agenda for this weekend.
