Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're waking up with fifth in the morning, kiss let
us and one, Hi, good morning. Do you pay your
parents to babysit your kids?

Speaker 2 (00:09):
I mentioned the podcast here and there throughout.

Speaker 1 (00:12):
The show, and if you because everything we do gets podcasted,
But if you haven't had a chance to catch up
on the latest episode, this is a little bit of
leftover from yesterday. So I'll just try to catch you
up to speed so you don't feel out of the
loop here as quickly as I can. I was talking
to my friend Ashley back in Boston and she had
put something up on her stories about, you know, do
parents the same question? Do parents pay their grant you know,

(00:36):
their parents to babysit their kids? And when I was
looking at the poll answers I don't know, I found
it surprising that there were a far more yeses than
I had originally. You know, anticipated and I don't have kids,
so I learn every day through you guys and us
having these conversations with your thoughts are so she and

(00:56):
I were going back and forth about that, and that's
why I brought it up on the show. We'll start
with you if you want to contribute to this five one, three, seven, nine,
one one.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
Good morning, Good.

Speaker 3 (01:04):
Morning, how are you doing?

Speaker 2 (01:06):
Whoa, Hollie, It has been a minute girl. What neighborhood
are you in right now?

Speaker 3 (01:12):
I'm actually coming from north Side.

Speaker 1 (01:15):
I've heard so many great things about north Side and
neighborhood I have yet to frequent.

Speaker 3 (01:20):
It's different.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
That's exactly what I hear. What's going on? Where have
you been?

Speaker 3 (01:25):
Well, my hours teams for work, so I'm like usually
at work by the time I can tune in. But uh, yeah,
I've been busy. I am now a like co parent.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
So, oh my god, you're in a new relationship.

Speaker 3 (01:40):
Yeah, but a very nice It's such a healthy, nice,
kind dude. I can't believe it. Holly.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
You've worked so hard for that. So I'm so happy
for you.

Speaker 3 (01:50):
I did, and I've always said I never want kids,
that I don't want anything to do with them, and
now I well you can.

Speaker 1 (01:58):
You can contribute now to the conversation that we're happy. Okay,
So what are your thoughts on paying I guess their
grandparents to watch them.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
Does that happen ever?

Speaker 3 (02:10):
Not in my life, but I know that it happens
to people. But ours is like an exchange of like.

Speaker 4 (02:15):
Goods and services.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
Okay, So you like barter and so it's.

Speaker 3 (02:19):
Like, hey, do you want to watch the kids in exchange,
I'll do this, or like I'll help out with that,
and then it's usually like okay, And so.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
That's an age no money that I haven't heard yet
this morning is that one is the exchanging of goods
and services.

Speaker 2 (02:36):
Because I walked this line.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
A little bit yesterday about entitlement, right, we shouldn't feel entitled,
our parents owe us or anything of that nature.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
But I like your take.

Speaker 1 (02:45):
I don't want to cut you short because it's been
so long since we connected, but I've got to move on.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
We've got a full line of phones here.

Speaker 3 (02:51):
That is all right. I'm doing well. I'll try to
tune in more, but yeah, I'm happy.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
Well that makes me very happy.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
If you're curious, Holly has called my show for years
and I hadn't heard from her from a little while.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
Old things so they update.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
Gal, if you're just walking into this conversation, we're in
the midst of talking about whether or not you pay
your parents to watch your kids.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
Hi, you're on the air. Good morning, and okay, I'll time.

Speaker 5 (03:14):
In for a second. So I am a grandmother I
have a two month year old grandson. So the thing
is is I would never charge my son and my
grandma to watch him. But I had the time in
about my grandma. So when I was a little girl,
we used to always think that Grandma used to watch
us for free. But back in the nineties in coming
than Kentucky, when we was younger, my mom and my

(03:36):
aunts and uncles used to have to sign a paper
saying that my grandma was watching us and the state
used to pay her like three hundred, four hundred dollars
a piece to watch us. Well, we always thought grandma
loved us and just watched us for free, But no,
she really didn't really got paid for it.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
But oh okay, I love love that love that grandma
was a scummer. But no, the uh is that like
a good ate it for to get around the system essentially,
like she got paid from the state because of childcare,
but you know it kept it all in the fam.

Speaker 2 (04:06):
It seems like a good deal.

Speaker 6 (04:09):
Yeah, pretty much is what she did.

Speaker 5 (04:10):
I was like, hey girl with smart and still got
you know, bear and stuff for my aunt and uncle
soon to watch it. Though we kind of watched ourselves.
But I just thought it was funny.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
That's us millennial babies watching ourselves for sure.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
What's your name? By the way, what neighborhood are you
waking up with me?

Speaker 4 (04:26):
And I love this h covin than Kentucky.

Speaker 1 (04:28):
My name is Amy Shield.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
Hi, good morning.

Speaker 1 (04:31):
You're waking up with Tiff in the morning on Kissuano
seven one. In less than ten minutes, I'm going to
ask you what your Aol screen name was. I am
in the hunt for the best one and the funniest one.
So if you want to get a jump on this
message me or talk back with Tiff, I would love
to play you on the radio and make me giggle
on this Friday. All right, while I have you right now, though,

(04:51):
we're in the midst of talking about whether or not
you have to pay your parents to babysit your kids.
We've gotten varying opinions on this, so we'll start with you.
Good morning, you're on the air.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
Good morning.

Speaker 7 (05:03):
So my parents will never and have never asked to
be paid, but I will frequently pay them in gift cards,
gas cards, kind of give them almost like a little
bonus every couple of weeks just for being so amenable

(05:23):
and driving my kids two different events. My husband and
I both work, and so it's really difficult to try
to get the kids to all their sporting events and
their practices.

Speaker 8 (05:34):
And my parents are always amenable to doing that, and
so I have zero problem making sure that I also
financially pay them for those those types of acts.

Speaker 1 (05:47):
Okay, what's your name? What neighborhood you waking up with me?
And I love this take.

Speaker 7 (05:51):
Yeah, so my name is Abby and I live in
Cool Great.

Speaker 2 (05:54):
Thanks Abby, good morning, you're on the air.

Speaker 4 (05:56):
So I was just calling about the parents, saying, I
there don't have to pay my mom, but I offer
her money depending on how long I'm going to be out.

Speaker 2 (06:06):
Okay, okay, and what's your name? What neighborhood do you
waking up with me in this morning? Tricia? And I'm
in Cincinnati, Terrisha. Thank you.

Speaker 1 (06:15):
I'm trying to rapid fire through these, so if it's
coming off is rude, our fall lines are full.

Speaker 2 (06:19):
Good morning.

Speaker 4 (06:20):
Yes, I was just calling to say that I have
two young children and both sets of parents, my husband's
parents and my parents, they would never ask for money
from us. They look at it as quality time with
their grandkids. So yeah, to me, it's crazy that they
would expect that from their kids to pay for that.

(06:40):
I babysat my nephews when they were younger and for
my sister, and she would like provide food for me
when I was there all day, She like have food
or like stay order a pizza on us. But like
would never you know, I would never expect her to
pay me for that. I looked like looked at it
like I was spending quality time with my nephews when
they were young.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
What's your name? What neighborhood do you call me from?

Speaker 4 (07:02):
My name's Lauren. I'm from behavior Lauren.

Speaker 1 (07:05):
That seems to be the consensus. We've got time for
at least one more. But if I if I can't
get to your call, just know there are multiple ways
to get in touch with me outside of this. You
can talk back with Tiff or Instagram all of the above,
or multitasking high.

Speaker 2 (07:19):
You're on the air.

Speaker 6 (07:20):
Three boys and my mom or his mom has never
asked that to pay. Like we'll actually treat them to
like dinner if they wanted to or anything like.

Speaker 4 (07:31):
That, but we've never had to pay them.

Speaker 2 (07:35):
What's your name? What neighborhood are you waking up with me?
In this morning, I awaken up some fair feel. My
name Sasha, Sasha with a s.

Speaker 1 (07:44):
Yeah, okay, you've heard all the calls I've had so far,
so that has been.

Speaker 2 (07:49):
It's been a consistent answer.

Speaker 1 (07:52):
But I do like how you guys have kind of
figured out a way to not feel entitled, you know,
you share in and that experience.

Speaker 6 (07:58):
Yeah, and also like we'll pick up groceries, We'll like, hey,
we're at this door. You don't eat anything, just saying
so I'm like, hey, did you want to bottle wine?

Speaker 1 (08:09):
Well, if you asked me that, if you asked me
that question right now, the answer would be yeah.

Speaker 2 (08:14):
So I'm glad you're asking someone. Hey, thanks for the call.
I appreciate you. And we're going to put a pin
in this.

Speaker 1 (08:20):
Why don't we move on because I want to know
what your AOL screen name was, and I bet it
was good, and of course i'll share mine. You know
how this goes, I can't wait for it to get weird.

Speaker 2 (08:32):
