Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're waking up with fifth in the morning.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
Hi. When you feel overwhelmed on a Monday, take a breath.
It's okay. We're gonna work through it together. Mental Health
Monday is just a taste of a little piece of advice,
hopefully to make things just a little bit better for you,
instead of trying to solve the world's problems all at
one point, you're just a little taste here on the show.
(00:23):
A Laurie Sharpage is our licensed clinical counselor. She comes
on Mondays with a little bit of advice. If you're
feeling overwhelmed on a Monday. Where do we start?
Speaker 1 (00:31):
We start by taking a step back and looking at
the baby steps. Our brain wants to solve all the
problems right now. It does not like discomfort, does not
like overwhelm, and well, welcome to our life. There's a
lot of chaos and uncertainty always right. So we need
to take our brain's automatic big picture stands and take
a step back and look for the baby steps, the
(00:53):
small wins, the things that are going to say, yeah,
I'm on that path, I'm going to that greater goal.
But this is a win today and the reason why
we have to train our brain to do that is
it doesn't do it automatically, and we miss out on
so much good stuff when we don't see our baby
steps and our small wins. So it's really important to
make sure that you can take that opportunity to see
(01:14):
that small stuff and appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (01:17):
So tell me what that would be like for someone
if there was it a conversation in their head.
Speaker 1 (01:22):
Oh yeah, absolutely. I think a lot of times, like
I think a good example is when you're in school
and you're thinking, like, when I graduate, I'll be there
and everything will feel good, but you miss the opportunity
to celebrate that A you got in a test. Heck,
even that B minus you got on a test sometimes right,
Pleas a lot of times like people will just rush
through because you're thinking about the bigger goal. But like,
(01:42):
that was meaningful, you did that, and you should celebrate that.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
And truth right that if you do that smaller win,
you're more motivated to go towards the bigger goal.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
Absolutely. That keeps us engaged in the game, and on
days when the goals feels really really far away, it
keeps us from checking out.
Speaker 2 (01:59):
You mentioned schoolwork, I met. The next big one is
weight loss, Oh yeah, for sure.
Speaker 1 (02:04):
I mean I think when people have big physical fitness
goals for themselves, like even running in a marathon some
type of like performance thing, they can often get overwhelmed
because they're looking at the big end goal and miss
the small baby steps in between.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
