Speaker 1 (00:01):
Good morning, Tampa Bay, nine seventy WFLA talking fishing. Going
to be here until eight o'clock.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Unfortunately only till eight o'clock, so unfortunate.

Speaker 1 (00:12):
The Great Derek Debo's on the other side. He is
our producer extraordinaiy his will be the first voice you here.
If you want to dial us up, questions, comments, fish
and report, you can bring them right here. One eight
hundred nine six nine ninety three five two. Weather is
just weathering, weathering. Yeah, it's getting into it's getting to

(00:37):
be winter. I mean, this is it this this week
coming up. Just looking at it this morning.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
It is. It looks like we have three potential frontal
boundaries over the next ten days, and uh, with those
fronts we get a little front, we get a high pressure,
get a little front, potential high pressure. So we're into
the swing of things. The pattern is here, it's settled in,
and it's going to be a chilly Halloween weekend next weekend.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
Yeah, that's what I saw.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
Yeah, it's pretty interesting. I mean, things are gonna start
really settling in this new moon. It seemed like we
still had some snook in the pass on those artificial
light sources, but a lot of fish have pushed back.
And I was talking to John Sasser, our resident. John's
pass expert when it comes to snook fishing, and he

(01:24):
fishes a lot in the past and then as it
starts to get cold, will kind of transition into the
back bay. And I was talking to him this week
and there was still some fish in the past, but
they just wouldn't chew. A lot of trout, but not
the snook. Where he was looking at the snook but
it couldn't get him to bite. But he moved back
into the bay and found him staged up in that
in that backwater. So it's already pretty settled in. And

(01:48):
I think this next kind of ten days of multiple
coal fronts, I think is going to really put the
nail on the coffin on this transition to these cooler
weather patterns.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
Yeah, it's a little early for it to be transitioned out,
but it might be.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
They started mid September. Yeah, it started. You know, it's
a it's been a little bit of an odd start.
And I mean even the mackerel and kingfish pretty early.
They normally we're kind of like it's November.

Speaker 1 (02:13):
Where are they right?

Speaker 2 (02:14):
I mean mid October they were thick, thick, yeah, and
now the kingfish Man it's been really solid. Yeah, we
got Mahi Mahi's still off shores. This week was a
strange week on the Pelagic front. I mean, it's been
interesting and this week, the weather wise, you want to
try to capitalize. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday looks best. We got

(02:36):
this high pressure right nowtal Yeah, got a high pressure
right now, but it's going to ease off at the
end of the weekend. You got that quarter moon Wednesday,
so Todd's are going to be a little slower, but
you'll have a little opportunity. Monday probably looks like the
best day ahead of that north wind Tuesday, and then
potentially their Wednesday afternoon once that front kind of cruises pass.

(02:57):
It's kind of weak, so hopefully we'll mess it up
too much. But Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday looks like your best bet.
And then it gets a little nautical like Mike let
on Thursday and Friday, and then potentially over the weekend
we'll get another little weather window before another front. Looks
like two cold fronts in one weekend potentially next week.
So interesting stuff.

Speaker 1 (03:18):
Yeah, no doubt, no doubt. Weather update brought to you
by Reese Windows and Doors. Float is leading into a
door company over fifty years in business. They offer free installation.
Most windows and doors installed in just six to eight weeks.
They only use in house installers, no freelance contractors, and
their work always comes with a double lifetime warranty, which
means you never pay for warranty. When you sell your house,
the warranty transfers to the new owners, which adds value

(03:41):
to your home. Visit Reefs windows dot com for more information.
Small craft advisory in effect till tomorrow night.

Speaker 2 (03:49):
Not when they do that. Heh, Yeah, we're going to
issue a small craft advisory for the next seventy two hours.

Speaker 1 (03:55):
It's like, come on, guys, days on it. Yeah days
not cool man. Little nautical out yeah, little nautical out
for sure. But the bite was good yesterday, even with
the winds, you know, rocking and rolling. I had a
kind of a joke going with my guys. We had
the Gator University of Florida Rinker School of Construction Gator

(04:17):
Builders Tournament yesterday raising money for scholarships at the Rinker
School of Construction there in Gainesville, and I was making
jokes with the guys at the end of the day
when they were bringing their people back in, we had
fifty six boats running. I was I was like, you know,
I'm a little disappointed, and guys were like disappointed. I said, yeah,
you know, I asked for thirty mile on our winds

(04:38):
and we only got twenty five. I mean, what the hell.
So yeah, it was just kind of it was breezy
and tough, but a lot of fish were caught a
lot of different species. That transition that we were kind
of just talking about. With this weather, you know, it's
it's in full swing. The early morning tide seemed to
be the best. When that tide stopped mid mid morning,

(05:00):
late morning there it kind of the bite kind of
petered out and got tougher. So I would expect the
same this morning. Again. If you're headed for the water,
small craft advisory, please be careful out there no reason
to get yourself into any types of issues. We got
a lot of days coming we're fishing will be good,
and weather it'll be good as well. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (05:19):
On the water temperature side, we have cam Ray Markham
in the comments saying it was seventy seven to eighty
three degrees when he was cruising around the Johns Pass
area recently looking at the buoys along the near shore
waters and offshore near shore at Egmont, it's seventy eight
point six, so it's getting into that kingfish zone for sure,
and then offshore further that forty five mile booies eighty one,

(05:42):
and then all the way offshore it's in the upper
eighty range. So yeah, it's right there on the doorstep
of that seventy eight to eighty degrees where we start
to see a really good push of those kingfish. And
they're already here. So I can't imagine what it's going
to be like them. Should get got my fingers and
toes cross that it does get better better, because we.

Speaker 1 (06:02):
Hope so, and I hope we get a few days
we can get out there and play with them. Maybe
maybe Wednesday, Yeah, I might be able to get out
there and play with them Wednesday.

Speaker 2 (06:09):
Yeah, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday looks like your opportunity. It's gonna
switch out of the north, but not gonna blow that hard.

Speaker 1 (06:14):
Yeah, it could be, could be doable. We'll see what happens.
You never know. Sometimes they fib to us and it
blows a little harder when what they say they're going
it's gonna blow.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
One way to find out, hurry up and weak.

Speaker 1 (06:24):
I hate to take a too big a look at
this because you didn't bring it up yet, but I
keep hearing and I usually wait for you, as you
are my weather guru. With the things that are going
on down to the south there in the tropics, anything
to worry about, Nothing to worry about.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
That Melissa is a non starter for us, but she's
definitely gonna be a problem for our friends down there
in the Caribbean.

Speaker 1 (06:44):
Yeah, it looks, it looks really bad. So yeah, it's
just gonna sit there. Thought some prayers out to all
those people down there. And I've been to Jamaica and
it's a beautiful place, but it's not uh. I don't
think they have the same code enforcement we have when
they're building their buildings, and it's gonna be messy.

Speaker 2 (07:01):
Yeah, And it's very mountainous, and that's where when you
get a foot of rain in such a short time frame,
those mountains can just mud slide and really really really
potentially kill a.

Speaker 1 (07:14):
Lot of people.

Speaker 2 (07:14):
And it's scary and it's sad to think about.

Speaker 1 (07:17):
Yeah, no doubt, So again, thoughts and prayers out to
those down there in the Caribbean dealing with those storms.
We have firsthand experience on storms and especially recently doing
how bad they are, so you know, one of those
things to keep an eye on. OCC Roadhouse coming up
this Tuesday night. Don't miss it. It's gonna be an

(07:37):
absolute dandy. We got the mad snooker himself, Captain Dave Pomelou,
and he's given away Smrder giving away a four hour trip.
I'm gonna be at Bull Bay, so we'll have our
Bullbay rods, we'll have ingle coolers, we'll have real animal swag,
Hubbard swag, all kinds of stuff to give away. That's
this Tuesday night coming up, October twenty eight, seven to

(07:58):
nine pm. Beautiful OCC Roadhouse. Our good friend Keith Overton
over there doing it upright with ice cold beer and
great great food. So make sure you uh put that
on your to do list because it'll be uh it'll
be a good one for sure.

Speaker 2 (08:12):
So excited for those hog wings always, Yeah, been looking
forward to it the last week.

Speaker 1 (08:17):
Yeah, And I wasn't there last one, so I missed
the last one. You're overdue, I am I'm do am
do a hog wink. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (08:25):
Man, their wings there are so good and they're burgers
and I mean they have everything.

Speaker 1 (08:29):
Yeah, they do. I enjoy the web salad and them
hog wings makes for a killer meal.

Speaker 2 (08:34):
Yeah, steak tacos, leak tacos.

Speaker 1 (08:37):
Good stuff, good stuff, good stuff, good stuff. So if
you were, like I said, if you're headed for the water,
small craft advisory, are gonna have to just be a
little smart, stay tucked away. Fishing still really really good,
lots of red fish. There's been some amazing trout fishing,
lots of big trout. I can't wait until we slide

(08:58):
into February to see what that looks like on the
big trout side, because we've had really summer, great trout fishing. Summer. Yeah,
we've had really great trout fish.

Speaker 2 (09:12):
Keep getting photos and through the summer and I was like,
what in the world, Yeah, when was this copek big
trout that looks like a December trout.

Speaker 1 (09:20):
I got on that trout bite last week that I
literally I went off shore. It was a little bumpy.
I was hoping to find some kingfish. Didn't have a
lot of luck. Came back in, was going to stop
trying to pop a few trout and then go red fishing,
and I never left the trout bite. I mean we
were on like a ridiculous twenty to twenty three inch trout,

(09:45):
one right after another bite that you just we haven't
seen in a long time. So just so awesome to
see that healthy trout bite. And normally my favorite time
of the year to catch big, big trout up shallow
is February, and I can't wait to see. Last two years,
it's been really slowing down, really depressing, not seeing a

(10:07):
lot of those big fish, and I don't know what happened,
but thank you Jesus, they're back and we're gonna it
should be amazing. Yeah, take that weir lure provoker fishing,
real shallow crawling, that thing we'd listen through the grass
and then it just gets stopped. Then you see that
big yellow mouth come up to the top, just shaking
its head and it's backing up in the water like

(10:29):
I ate a jalapeno hot spicy. Yeah, it's gonna be good.
So I think it's gonna be awesome. I can't wait.

Speaker 2 (10:37):
But I feel like for the last like six eight weeks,
he's been talking about hunting season and so excited for
that now. Now you're all fired up about trouting.

Speaker 1 (10:46):
Hunting season's here, but yeah, I done sat in a tree. Well,
I mean you're statiated, and so now you're looking forward
to the next fishing show. So we have to talk
about what's coming up next in our fishing world.

Speaker 2 (10:58):
We can be happy with what's going on now.

Speaker 1 (11:00):
That's true. We are. I am. I'm happy that you
know the kingfisher here, especially with the way the Kingfish
bike was last year.

Speaker 2 (11:05):
Yeah, and the hogs fish.

Speaker 1 (11:07):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (11:07):
We got a lot of exciting stuff going on now.

Speaker 1 (11:09):
Yeah, it's sexy, there's no doubt. I like big trout,
though shallow.

Speaker 2 (11:13):
I like big trout and I cannot lie.

Speaker 1 (11:16):
Phone lines are open here, Light them up one, nine, six, nine, nine,
three five, two, questions, comments, fishing reports, bring them right here.
It's the bartow Ford Real Animals Radio Show. We'll be back.
Welcome back nine to seventy WFLA again the bartow Ford

(11:37):
Real Animals Radio Show. If you're looking for a truck,
nobody does it better than our good friends out at
bartow Ford as Dylan and I both driving one, Big
Ben Marshall driving one as well. So our buddy Justin Moore.
Stop out there, buddy, Kevin, justin Moore. You know, if
you're if you're in the market for a new truck,
Like I said, nobody in our opinion does it better?
Then are good friends out at bartow Ford. Let's go

(11:58):
to the phones here real quick. We have our good
friend Tim Duncan on from Fisherman's Hut. Tim, how are
you this morning?

Speaker 3 (12:08):
Good morning guys. How's it going?

Speaker 1 (12:10):
Yeah, how are you? What's going on? What's the word? Man?

Speaker 3 (12:14):
I am out at John's Pass right here at Hubbard's dock.
I landed one twenty inch snook so far, and I'm
soaking some big shrimp to try to land some more.

Speaker 1 (12:23):
Thanks.

Speaker 3 (12:23):
I wanted to know you guys's opinion on fish and
extra structure. What's the preference? Is there any fermanto or flora?
Is there a you know, the lightest line? You would
go any kind of tips of tricks right now?

Speaker 2 (12:36):
It's a delicate balance. It really is some personal experience.
If you want to bite, you could go lighter thirty
forty fifty pound test, But if you hook up, trying
to land that fish is a tricky one.

Speaker 1 (12:48):
Yeah, you gotta get lucky. That is the catch. That's
always the dilemma as you just don't know what it's
going to take to get that fish out of there.
Are you lucky and you get the you know, big
monster female that turns and comes out for some reason,
or are you getting that big gnarly female that's like, no, boy, no,

(13:09):
we are turning. We're headed for Mexico and you're not
gonna like.

Speaker 2 (13:14):
And the unfortunate part in that where the snook have
been stacking up this year on our dock at least,
is they've been on that west side and on that
west side there's nothing but a wall of sand, or
they can go into a tree that's been submerged there
since Helene, or the dock. So it's like the snook
have a chance to either get out of the water

(13:35):
on the beach or go into the dock.

Speaker 1 (13:37):
So good luck.

Speaker 2 (13:38):
Yeah, you're there's nowhere for them to run except into
the pilots. Yeah, it's really tricky.

Speaker 1 (13:43):
That's tough stuff there, man. I'd be looking for, you
know something bull bay brute force maybe thirty to fifty
pound rod, you know, minimum of thirty pound you know,
braid maybe a fifty pound either trying to get that bite.

Speaker 2 (14:02):
Just the best way to land them around the docks
that I've ever experienced was I mean, back in the day,
you could do the figure eight method with a six
ot reel and eighty pound test and they would bite
and you could just swing them onto the dock. It
was like not even a contest. But you can't get
a snook to bite like that, at least I haven't
been able to. I mean, they're just too smart nowadays. Yeah,

(14:23):
they see too much pressure. And the other way we
used to do it a lot was the hand lines.
But to hand line a fish because then you eliminate
the rod you have a lot more control. But to
do a hand line and not totally tear your hand open,
you need at least sixty pound test, right, And if
you drop sixty pound tests in front of those fish,
you've got no chance to go. Yeah, no, it looks

(14:45):
like come down there again. They just see too much effort.
I mean, those snook in John's Pass probably get casted
to at least one hundred and fifty times a night.

Speaker 1 (14:55):
I heard years ago, and I don't know if it's true,
but I think I heard. I want to say, I
can't remember where I heard it. So many years now,
But when a snook reaches legal size, he's already been
caught and released nine times.

Speaker 2 (15:12):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (15:13):
Now, and I can't remember who told me that. Yeah,
but somebody told me that, And I thought, that's.

Speaker 2 (15:17):
In the Tampa Bay. Is that Tampa area?

Speaker 1 (15:19):
Ok? Yeah, Yeah, obviously in an area where you have
a lot of pressure. Change if you get down, Yeah,
if you get if you get down the glades or
something like that, it would it would obviously change. But
I mean, and you know, we used to catch it
was really nothing when I first started getting it really
wasn't a big deal to catch a hundred snook in
the morning, you know, the right pass, the right tide,

(15:40):
you know. And again that you know, I'm not saying
we were catching thirty five, one hundred and thirty five inches. Well,
he's a beast. That's a whole nother that's a whole
nother freak. He's chiming it. As a matter of fact,
he just text me something about I can I don't
even want. Yes, I know, David, but you know, I mean,

(16:01):
it's and it's obviously changed a lot. You know. I
was listening to the guys yesterday in that big event,
I had and you know guys like, man, we had
a great red fish bite and I'm like, oh you did,
and he was like, yeah, we got nine. And I thought, god,
it's really changed, Mike.

Speaker 2 (16:17):
Yeah yeah, we used to his head is like back
in my day.

Speaker 1 (16:20):
Well, it just it just dawned on me that I
was like, man, it's really changed, Like we never got
that excitmently caught nine. Yeah, you know that's what it
used to be. And now he's like, man, we had
a great red fish bike we caught nine.

Speaker 2 (16:34):
I'm like, yeah, I remember when our gad group or
baglingm it was like eight. Yeah, ten, it was crazy. Yeah,
different eras crazy. Times change. Yeah, good call is always there.
Timp well done.

Speaker 3 (16:47):
Absolutely, thank you for the tips guys. You guys have
won insidelines and have a great day.

Speaker 1 (16:51):
The fisherman's hut they're chiming in.

Speaker 2 (16:54):
They went out in the twelve hour extreme this past
week and they destroyed the fish on the jigs. It's
always impressive to see. Yeah, yeah, what those experienced jig
fishermen can do. That whole jig thing is crazy. It's
a very interesting game.

Speaker 1 (17:08):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, there's no doubt I've been seeing a
lot of stuff from the Skyway misfits.

Speaker 2 (17:13):
Too, dude, we need to talk about that too. They're
October twenty seventh, they're closing a mile of the South Pier.
Why because the FDOT says because of structural issues.

Speaker 1 (17:24):
Oh, for god sake.

Speaker 2 (17:25):
But I find it very, very fishy that the Friends
of Pelicans got that news story out and all this
uprising from the bird folks about oh, the pelicans are
in danger, and then all of a sudden, magically, FDOT says,
comes out and closes the area that Friends of Pelicans
has been lobbying to close for five years. So all

(17:46):
of a sudden, the bird people get exactly what they
want to coincide with what the story they got a
little fishy to me. I feel like someone from DOT
needs to confirm that they're closing it because of structural issues.
Just outside pressure.

Speaker 1 (18:03):
We've got a real interesting story here coming up on
the other side, I'm gonna just stay.

Speaker 2 (18:07):
Out of that completely. Couldn't get on the vice.

Speaker 1 (18:09):
Yeah, we're gonna talk about We're gonna talk with Jim
Lucas here and give you guys an update on a
real tragic story coming in from down in Panama. Here
on the other side, We'll be back nine seventy WFLA

how are you this morning?

It has custom ramps that fold down onto the dock
for realchair veterans and stuff and nice.

Speaker 1 (19:51):
I'm just cool.

Speaker 4 (19:52):
I'm humbled and without your voice and the support of
this community. I had a company from Atlanta send send
us thousands of dollars for this project. And it's amazing, amazing.
And you know that young lady that you sent to me,
Captain Mike, she's going to be one of our first trips.

(20:13):
And guess what, she's a healthcare worker. Her dad's a
retired law enforcement with.

Speaker 1 (20:19):
That is.

Speaker 4 (20:22):
In a wheelchair and and she's gonna be one of
our first trips. And I thank you for that.

Speaker 1 (20:27):
Thank you for doing what you do. Man. Yeah, what
you're doing is amazing.

Speaker 4 (20:31):
Yeah, we need to get her. You need to get
it kitted out and wrapped up and uh and then
get some veterans on this boat and go have some time.
You know it's gonna it's a good times, good time.

Speaker 1 (20:45):

how they can find out more about Lines of Liberty.
That's kind of the important thing.

first responders is absolutely amazing and inspiring. Bro. We can't
we can't do enough of that stuff. So well done.

Speaker 4 (21:44):
Thanks Thanks to you guys too.

Speaker 1 (21:46):
Thanks Thanks Fellas wor Funny You're the man. It's crazy, dude,
what he's doing. Man, he's been and he's been like
that since I met him. Just a veteran who is
just into giving back.

Speaker 4 (21:57):
Man.

Speaker 1 (21:57):
It's you know, it's a blessing and listen to have
in our community. For sure, So lots of stuff to
talk about. Again. I think Derek is trying still to
get Jim on the line. A crazy story out of Panama,
big you know, sportfish accident that we want to tell
you guys about. And we got a young mate down

(22:19):
there in Panama who's you know, in really really bad
shape that needs our help. And hopefully, like I said,
at some point we'll be able to get Jim on
the line and talk about that. But this November, South
Seas is probably hosting voters, anglers, veterans, and first responders
for a special event called Real Heroes Weekend, happening Friday

(22:39):
through Sunday, November seventh through the ninth. You can check
in and settle into a discounted rooms, discounted dockage, all
kinds of deals going on at South Seas Island resorts.
You know, this is one of the resorts down there
at Captiva, that was one of many resorts obviously on
the west coast of Florida, but down there in Captiva

(23:02):
they got beat up pretty bad from back to back
storms and the storms a year before, and they are
coming to life down there at South Seas. If you've
been following me or following the show for any length
of time. You know, South Seas is near and dear
to my heart, I love everything about South Seas Island Resort,
what they were doing down there. Beth and I were
there for Memorial Day weekend for their big tarp and

(23:25):
tournament that they do that benefits Folds of Honor, which
is a great organization, and it's amazing what they're doing
with the bringing that place back to life. I mean, yeah,
Timbers Resorts is the property owners. They own resorts all
over the world, and they know what they have at

(23:46):

stay in a room, spend the whole weekend there at

(24:30):
South Season Resort. It's a beautiful place. If you haven't
done it, I highly highly recommend it.

Speaker 2 (24:36):
So nice. Yeah, yeah, And we got Seafood Fest going
on this weekend. If you're looking for something to do
this weekend. Yeah, John's Pass is crawling with folks and
vendors and things to do. And Don's Doc we got
the Peel and Eat Shrimp going on, and we're running
a special on our fish bread and we've got tons
of stonecrab. So yesterday down at Don's Doc, all you

(24:57):
could hear was like tap tap tap on the stone crab.
People are You're looking around and people are eating fish bread, shrimp,
stone crab. There's live music going on. It was a
pretty cool little scene. Well, and the Friendly Fisherman's right
there too, right, Yeah, the Friendly Fisherman was covered up
in people. They're running specials on shrimp and scallops, They've

(25:18):
got tons of drinks going on. There's so many different vendors.
So John's Pass Seafood Festival is a really cool opportunity
to spend some time inside the pass and enjoy the festivities.
Keep in mind as well, there's tons of different parking options.
If you want to avoid the traffic and avoid the chaos,
you could park at the middle school or at city

(25:39):
Hall for free and catch a free shuttle over as well.
Oh nice, there's free parking, free shuttle. The event is free,
so there's a lot of different ways to get there,
and plus of course the rideshare Uber. All that kind
of stuff is a good option if you're trying to
avoid it or come early. You could park in the
parking garage. Event parking is thirty dollars in the parking garage,
but if you're on a trip with us book a

(26:00):
Dolphin cruise, he gets seven dollars all day parking, So
that is the cheapest parking for seven bucks for twenty
four hours. But you have to be on a trip
with us to get that discount of parking. Free free,
for free, free, yeah, free. It's basically like a free
Dolphin tour. I like, just free, yeah, free is good. Yeah,
you can go to the middle school or it was
funny yesterday at the event, I was like, is that

(26:22):
Mike this guy walk by swear just look exactly like
you really, Yeah, I was like, why is he here
and not letting me know?

Speaker 1 (26:31):
I would have let you know for sure. We Beth
and I have been talking about how to get the
grandkids down there to the beach and get over there
to the friendly fisherman for the cat putter.

Speaker 2 (26:40):
Yeah, you gotta visit Saint Pete Clearwater man, no doubt. Yeah,
there's a lot of cool different places to stay around there.

Speaker 1 (26:46):
Well, this is an incredible time of year just in general.

Speaker 2 (26:51):
Over there, you're gonna play tourist. If you're listening to
this and you are wanting a staycation, this is the
time of year to play tourist. I mean, obviously seafood
weekend we're a little bit busy, but this time of
year right now, the hotels are pretty darn empty. Another
couple of weeks, the northern friends are going to start
showing up in those hotels. Those hotels are going to

(27:12):
start charging a little bit more money. But this is
the time of year you can go down there and
stay on the beach for pretty low rates. And man,
it's still a good time to go out on the beach. Well,
it's sunny in mid eighties afternoons.

Speaker 1 (27:24):
Are still really really beautiful.

Speaker 2 (27:26):
Yeah, it's nice and nice.

Speaker 1 (27:27):
Even the morning cool on the beach or walk on
the beach was nice and cool out loud.

Speaker 2 (27:30):
And right now, Like my dad and my stepmom, they're
walking the beach in the afternoons taking photos of the
sunset and they took a photo of the sunset last night.
You could up two three miles down the beach. You
might be able to count four people, five people. I mean,
the beaches are empty and it's just such a great
time to be out there. Yeah, this is a good
opportunity to play. Tourists, good time of the year to

(27:51):
get on that Hubbard's boat. Yeah, light loads and uh huh,
just got to play the I mean, that's the biggest
thing this time of year is so many people are like, oh,
what's your favorite time of year to go fishing? This
is it. These time frames, the shoulder seasons, these are
my favorite times and there's not a lot of people around.
But you just have to time your trips around the

(28:11):
weather because the weather concentrates the bite you'll. I mean,
if you look at the forecast right now, we've had
three or four days of high winds, we still got
one or two more days left, and then we have
a really nice two or three day period and then
the wind picks right back up. So it makes it
real easy to find those good weather times and those

(28:33):
good weather windows, and those weather windows are when the
fish are feeding too, so it's the time we can
access the fish, and it's the time those fish are
ready to choose. So it's a good opportunity to get
out there and take advantage.

Speaker 1 (28:45):
Yeah, no doubt, no doubt. Just I this is one
of my favorite times of year. You got the you know,
you're you're you're still in your shorts, but you're wearing
a sweatshirt for that morning bait run. You know, you're
not sweating all day. It's not all it's not all crazy.

Speaker 2 (29:03):
Yeah, yesterday Seafood Fest, for example, in the morning it
was kind of chilly, and then by the afternoon it
was warm out, but you could still sit in the
sun and enjoy it. You weren't sweating. Yeah, it was
just a little warm in the sun.

Speaker 1 (29:16):
Yeah, no doubt.

Speaker 2 (29:17):
And then you go back in the shade. You're like, it's
a little cool, go back there in the sun. It
was nice.

Speaker 1 (29:22):
Finally got through to our good friend Jim Lucas here again,
a real tragic story coming in from down there in Panama.
A dear friend of mine, Captain Bo Johnson, A lot
of you know the name because he's a West Coast
Florida legend here was involved in He wasn't involved, but well,
I guess he was involved, But there was an accident

(29:43):
on a boat and we got Jim Lucas here to
kind of give us some details. Maybe a little broke
up here because I'm gonna have to go to break.
I had a little trouble getting through the gym, which
was more my fault than his. But Jim, how are
you doing this morning? Buddy doing?

Speaker 5 (29:57):
Okay? Mike, how you doing?

Speaker 1 (29:58):
Budd Uh? You know what? We're good. I apologize there.
I was trying to get you on here for the
whole segment. So we may have to take a little
break and then slide into another segment here. But you know,
I don't even know where to start with this story.
You guys are at a big resort and Panama, you're
out on a big sport fish. I mean, obviously things
go really wrong, and I think this is an important

(30:20):
story because we don't, you know, two sides of it.
I guess we don't often think about how you know
quickly things can go awry, especially when you're when you're
on a big sport fish, you're fighting a big fish,
and you know, all hell breaks loose. I mean, it's
just kind of crazy.

Speaker 5 (30:36):
Yeah, absolutely, And it is a reminder of how how
quickly life can change. And you know, if I can
tell you a little bit about how that all went down,
you know, just like you said, we're we're all sure
having the time of our lives. Man, And we hook
into a big blue marlin and you know, getting close
to the side of the boat, go to touch the
leader once he takes off and missed it. Getting back

(30:58):
again and go to touch the leader and one of
our teammates goes overboard. It took roughly seven seconds from
the time he went overboard to the time we drug
him back on board. And you know, I won't get
into any of the details of the injuries, but it's
absolutely horrific.

Speaker 3 (31:17):
Man.

Speaker 5 (31:17):
He is in the state he's in right now, He's
lost part of one leg and very good chance he's
going to lose the other one. You know, still in
the hospital. But I can tell you, you know, excuse me,
like you said about Bo Johnson, He's done as much
fishing as anybody. He's been a thirty you know captain
for over thirty one years, I believe, and you know,
it's it's affected all of our lives. Man, It's unlike

(31:41):
anything I've ever seen in my life. And you know,
those memories will be with us for a very very
long time.

Speaker 1 (31:46):
Well and I think too, you know, Jim, the the
the you know, you're you're down there in Central America
with with you know, really talented mates and talented captains,
but they come from very backgrounds and when you end
up with an accident like this, you know, medical care

(32:07):
and all that stuff is in some of those places
it's just hard to come by period, let alone, you know,
the cost and then not being able to go back
to work. All those things really affect that, you know,
family economically. I just you know, and and for those
listening that don't you know, maybe you haven't seen a

(32:28):
lot of this big billfish you know fishing that they
do down there. This boat has you know, twin screws
on it, so you're talking about huge double propellers. You know,
when when when somebody goes in the water here and
and they're backing down on these big fish trying not
to damage the fish. It creates this just you know,

(32:50):
dangerous situation obviously, you know. And my hat's off to
Bow and you, Jim and the rest of the crew.
You know, the fact that this kid is still live
is a testament to you guys and acting quick, which
in no way surprises me out of Bo Johnson. I've
been around Bow for many, many, many years. But it's

(33:12):
why we push our safe boating segments so hard here.
You know that things can go wrong so quickly on
the water. You know, you need to be prepared. I
was talking to Bo about this story when I initially
saw it on Facebook. I reached out to Bow and
Bo called me and was telling me the story, and
obviously in graphic detail. I got a lot of the

(33:32):
story which you know, we don't want to share here
on the radio. But you know first aid kits on
your boat, Like Bo is telling me the story and
they're like, you know, they throw Bow this little bitty face,
this first aid kit that you would get at CBS
or something, and Bo's like, this is not what I need.
You know, you guys were having to use sheets off

(33:53):
the beds of this sport fish to wrap the wounds
and try to control the bleeding. And this was a
very very you know, dangerous situation. These are the things
you need to think through when you're on the water,
when you're going fishing. If you're a captain listening to
this show, you need to think through some of these
scenarios and be prepared. The beauty here is Jim and

(34:14):
Bo have put together a place to donate to this
kid and his family, trying to I guess you guys
are really trying to start like an organization here, right
to to help some of these moving forward. Let's talk
a little bit about that.

Speaker 5 (34:29):
Yeah, exactly. So we set up a charity, not only
I mean, our initiate intent was to help this young
man because, like you said, the resources that he has
access to is nothing in that part of the world.
We would eventually like to, you know, you know, raise
enough to get him some prosthetics and stuff. The kid,
you know, believe it or not, really wants to get
back on the water someday, and you know, we want
to help him, you know, continue living his dream. But

(34:51):
the support has been so overwhelming that you know, we
decided that we put a section on the website where
if you've been heard or you know so one who's
been heard offshore fishing, you can apply and if we
have the resources, you know, we're gonna help you man.
You know, whatever we can do, and as far as
the donations go, like you said, Mike, I mean even
I mean fight dollars makes a difference. Every little bit helps,

(35:13):
and you know, when something like this happens, you know,
the fishing community, you know, you know needs to pull
together and try to help each other.

Speaker 1 (35:20):
You know, I absolutely love what you guys are doing.
The organization is called Casting for Care. We actually have
it up on the live feed, the Facebook feed at
Real Animals and at Hubbard's Marina. You guys can go
there and make a donation. Real Animals. We'll be making
a big donation today trying to help this kid and
his family get through this terrible time. Jim, we appreciate

(35:43):
you sharing this story. I know it's early you're out
there in Texas. I appreciate you joining us here this morning.
Maybe I'll reach out to you. I'd love to have
another conversation about this tomorrow on tomorrow's show, if that's
okay with you, sure. So, yeah, we're on from seven
to nine tomorrow morning, so it'll be a little bit later,
but i'll i'll, i'll text you in the morning tomorrow.
We'll get you guys back on the radio tomorrow and

(36:04):
dive into this a little further. But you know, just
a crazy story and we want the message to get
out there that you need to be prepared on your boats.
And now's the opportunity to maybe give back if you
you know, if you have it in your heart to
drop a little change in this young man's life, then
I know he'd really appreciate it. So there's a lot
of great causes out there and this is just another

(36:24):
one of them. But great work on the backside of
this and during this chaos, Jim, you and Bo Johnson.
Bo is one of my heroes in my life. Crazy
great fishermen, and I appreciate you taking some time and
sharing that story this morning.

Speaker 5 (36:39):
Thank you guys very much for allowing us to do that. Man,
I appreciate the time very much.

Speaker 1 (36:43):
You bet, Jim, I'll holler at you later today. Ivan
crazy guys, buddy, you unbelievable, right crazy and that quick,
I mean, and in seven seconds in the water, back
in the boat. The kid's life is changed forever. Casting
for Care is the association, the organization. The link is
up on the Facebook pages at Real Animals and Hubbard's Marina.

(37:07):
Like I said, Real Animals, We'll be making a donation
today and please help out a great cause right there
for some great people. So we're talking fishing again here
on the other side, we'll be back nine to seventy
WFLA welcome back. Really really short segment here as we
went a little along there with Jim Lucas for Casting

(37:27):
for Care. But I did want to get that I
did want to get that story out there and in
you know, Indi All's world. Just kind of a crazy,
crazy story. We were talking about it all through the break.
Here just happens fast out there, it really does. You know,
we got to be prepared, you know, the great gym Fogel,
our visit Saint Pete Clearwater safe Boating tip of the Week,

(37:49):
our bush Light safe Boating Tip of the Week on Sundays.
You know, we just don't think about it enough. I mean,
imagine seven seconds from in the water to back on
the deck, I mean yeah, and everything in that young
man's life just went crazy. So and and the amount
of times that that young. I mean, you don't just

(38:13):
end up the guy leadering marlin on a sport fish
one day. Like it's not like, hey, today's today's your day.
You know, handle this. You know, this kid's done this
thousands of times, grew up doing it exactly. I mean,
they they they groom these mates. I mean they're they're
cutting bait at the dock for three years before they

(38:34):
ever get on the boat to be you know, way
down you know, in the galley. I mean it's you
know what I mean, I mean it's well Hubbard's Marina
the same way, right. I mean they don't just you
don't end up the lead mate on one of your
boats in two weeks, right, It takes a lot of time.
So this is an experienced kid, and even with all

(38:55):
his experience, this thing went south really really quick. So
crazy crazy, we're up against it. Here. We got Donald
in Lootz on the other side. Phone lines, we're open
here one eight hundred nine six nine nine three five
two the bartell Ford Real Animals phone number. Right, I did, congrats,
Thanks Gy, We'll be back. Welcome back seven oh eight,

(39:16):
tier seven oh nine now at the iHeartMedia part. Look
at the whole story, bro looking at the clock seven
to nine. Actually I lied. Phone lines are open here.
We're talking fishing one eight hundred nine six nine nine
three five two. If you haven't been to the Friendly
Fisherman at John's Pass yet, it's back under the management

(39:39):
of the Hubbard family, the same family that's been serving
up the best fishing and dining experiences of the Deer
Beach for nearly a century. Come rediscover the Friendly Fisherman.
It tastes the difference with the freshest seafood, improved menus
and service you've come to expect from the Hubbard's family.
Enjoy unbeatable waterfront views, a welcoming atmosphere, and flavors straight
from the Gulf. Locals and visitors. Come see what's new

(40:01):
today at the Friendly Fisherman. You won't be disappointed. Beth
and I just keep talking about I just got to
get over there. I'm so ready to come and devour
a cat buttter.

Speaker 2 (40:11):
Nothing better, and especially this weekend, there's so much going
on in the past. Pretty awesome. Yeah's that's really a
cool thing. That Seafood Fest can't beat it.

Speaker 1 (40:20):
No, it's seafood bro. Yeah best. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (40:23):
You know what's crazy too, is it's seven to ten now.
I just want to throw that out there. Thank you,
well done, weird. Pretty soon it'll be seven eleven. Let's
go to the phone rate. That's really in depth, real
in depth. How to have seven ways to catch a
Track's checking with?

Speaker 1 (40:41):
Donald and Lutes? Don't know, are you? Buddy?

Speaker 6 (40:45):
Hey, good morning. I gotta tell you there's no better.

Speaker 7 (40:48):
Community than the fishing community, especially our community here in
the West Central Florida's the best people. I just donated
to that hearing that story and it was like, man,
that's just terrible.

Speaker 1 (41:02):
Yeah, thank you Donald. We appreciate that. Yeah, it's it's
just it happens so quick. You know. It's just one
of them things when when it comes to the safe
boating tips and safety on the water and safety on
your boat. You know, we we we just I don't
think we think about it enough. I think Jim Fogel
and the safe boating tips are a blessing to us
because we need those reminders all the time. We're always

(41:25):
out there in this beautiful place and just we're just
not always paying attention to, you know, the dangers around
us man.

Speaker 6 (41:33):
So, yeah, I've seen some crazy videos of you know,
swordfish coming over to you know, the transom, and I
was thinking, this kid got speared right right through them
and taking overboard. And that was it. You know, That's
what went through my head when the story started happening.
It's like, you know, it's just crazy.

Speaker 1 (41:54):
Out there, big water.

Speaker 6 (41:57):
Yeah. So last Saturday, you know, called in when it
went out at Palm Harbor and I got a nice slam,
not a big slam. It was a fifty nine and
a half inch slam. But you know, I never even
lost sight of the boat ramp, you know, just fishing
the bayou there sudden and by you, And yeah, I

(42:20):
went back to old school. I had used the bait
that I haven't used in a couple of years, a
rule two point seventy five well fathom new penny paddle
tail gray color man. So I caught all my fish
on that, caught ladyfish, trouts, the red fish, and snook,

(42:40):
and there's just a great day out in the water.
And then you know everybody who came back with the
cheeseburgers and hot dogs. And next month I'll be doing
the Low Country Boil. It's the park. Yeah, doing crab legs,
shrimp and dewey sausage, the corn and the rule potatoes.

Speaker 1 (42:59):
Donald and with his own seafood festival sounds awesome.

Speaker 6 (43:03):
Will be favious.

Speaker 1 (43:04):
The park very cool.

Speaker 6 (43:06):
Yeah, it's gonna be a lot of fun, right buddy,
People there and uh, it's gonna be a great time.
Fishing is incredible right now.

Speaker 1 (43:15):
No doubt, no doubt. Good stuff, good story, buddy, Love.
What are you going? You're going fishing today? You don't
want to you don't want to paddle against that wind today?

Speaker 6 (43:23):
No, No, I've got the stuff to do today.

Speaker 5 (43:27):
You know, when you're you're out.

Speaker 6 (43:28):
In the country here and loose. When you hear roosters crowing,
I just want my dogs out in the.

Speaker 2 (43:33):
Yard and crow.

Speaker 1 (43:36):
Nice. All right, buddy, enjoy your da d good call, brother.
We appreciate you donating.

Speaker 6 (43:42):
Oh absolutely my pleasure. Hey, you guys, take care of
stay safe out there and tighten lines and where your
life jackets out there?

Speaker 5 (43:48):
People too, be.

Speaker 1 (43:49):
Smart, no doubt, good call, Donald, good stuff. Let's check
in now with real quickly. Let's get a quick report
from the beautiful float to keys. Got Mike Perry right
for our safe boating tip, Mike, how are you.

Speaker 8 (44:04):
I'm doing well. Our fishing has been great. But that's
not what my call is about. It's about this tragedy.

Speaker 3 (44:12):
Folks.

Speaker 8 (44:12):
If you're having trouble putting a quality first aid kit together,
you take my number and you call me, because I
have more connections to putting together a quality first aid
kit than anybody, and I believe no doubt, you should
have a minimum of two of the the Army Marine

(44:34):
whatever they call them, United States Service tourniquits that in
that kit because that type of situation, you know, I
went from a boat with one motor to three engines.

Speaker 2 (44:50):
Any other thing with that though, is when it comes
to emergency preparedness and all that good stuff. It's great
to have a tourniquit, but you also have to teach
people how to use it, right because if God forbid,
yeah you're the one injured, you can't apply a tournique
to yourself, and a lot of cases like that, so
people have to know how to do enough.

Speaker 8 (45:09):
You're right, You're absolutely right. So if anybody out there,
anybody out there wants to talk about it, training, I
can hook you up. And it's just not with you know,
the Red Cross. I know people who do small groups
and stuff like that. The training and putting the equipment
together is no problem, but yeah, handing you a Walmart

(45:32):
or a CBS first aid kit in a situation like
that is.

Speaker 2 (45:38):
I mean, we had we had a first aid thing
at the marina. It was really cool. They brought up
a pig out and like one of the Science Donation pigs,
and they hooked up this pump to it to make
it actually bleed, and we were going over trauma. It
was pretty interesting. I mean, you could slice an artery
and all of a sudden you've got a squirter, And

(45:59):
how do you handle that? When it comes to things?
When you talk about it, you're like, oh, yeah, I
can handle that situation. But when you've got blood squirting
across the room, it changes the.

Speaker 1 (46:08):
Game, no doubt. Really interesting. What happens to your brain
when you realize your boat is sinking. Like you can
think about your boat sinking, but when you're standing on
that vessel and you open a hatch and it's full
of water and you realize you're taking on water, what
you know, what happens? What happens or fire? What happens
to your brain what what what steps do you now

(46:31):
immediately need to take to make this situation better quickly?

Speaker 8 (46:35):
The com captain inmate, if you have a mate on
your boat, if you're on a big enough boat, the
com captain and the com mate that have been trained, well,
we'll be able to get that problem taken care of
and get their crew whoever it is, to safety to
a safe place.

Speaker 1 (46:52):
Sure.

Speaker 3 (46:53):
And like I said, just.

Speaker 8 (46:54):
Reach out to me, and I mean that's wholeheartedly. It
is something that is dear to my heart out you know, trauma.
Take it from a guy who's spent thirty plus years
at emergency rooms all up and down the state of Florida,
and not just Tampa or the Keys. I've worked trauma
in Miami.

Speaker 9 (47:13):
Tell us, Jacksonville, tell everybody.

Speaker 1 (47:15):
Tell everybody real quick. How then get ahold of you Mike,
so I can get our safe boating tip.

Speaker 8 (47:20):
Eight one three four three four eight zero eight six
Captain Michael forty seven gmail dot com. And if you
miss the number, just give Mike a call and we'll
set you up and we'll get you the right train
and so that kind of emergency can be taken care
of and you maybe can save a life.

Speaker 1 (47:35):
Great job today, Mike. We appreciate that. Good call, buddy, thank.

Speaker 4 (47:39):
You, thank you, Bunny, buddy.

Speaker 1 (47:41):
Man, it's important. And speaking of that, Captain Jim Fogel,
US Coast Guard Auxiliary Captain Extraordinaire with our safe Boating
Tip of the Week, we've been on a little bit
of a safe voating role here, as you can tell, Jim, So.

Speaker 10 (47:52):
Yeah, very good, very good. Yeah, I'm a pressed, terrible
story earlier, but it just makes us more more aware
of what we've got to be ready for it at
any time.

Speaker 1 (48:03):
You know, no doubt, preparedness is the key.

Speaker 2 (48:05):
You've got to be prepared for those you know, prepared,
forward thinking and.

Speaker 10 (48:11):
In fact, you know, you guys might think about having
either some kind of a safety or CPR type course
sometime at one of the big meetings you're having, you know,
either for your guides or charter people or whatever. You know,
we just may set something up.

Speaker 2 (48:31):
And what's crazy to me, guys, what's crazy to me
is they require first Aid for our US Coast Guard
Inspective vessels. A certain percentage of our staff has to
be first aid certified. Captains have to have first aid
to get their charter Captain's license. But like the threshold
to like get a certification can be pretty low. There's

(48:53):
some opportunities where you can get it online and you
don't really have to skip forward. I mean, the I
think the threshold is a little low, and the training,
I mean, it can be really really kind of pathetic.
So it's it's interesting when you start thinking about those
kind of things, the importance of making sure you're you're

(49:14):
with a good quality of guet.

Speaker 10 (49:15):
And we can we could bring in an emergency room
physician or a family practice physician that could do a
real good job of that. But I got one more
thing I want to run to, come real quick, Come
on overdue vessel. Overdue vessels. When you go out and
you leave a float plan, that's you know, that's just mandatory.
We've talked to that about that before. We've got to

(49:37):
leave a float plan. But if you leave float plans,
say you're going to be back at five o'clock, and
you know, all of a sudden you're not going to
get back at five o'clock and not going to get
back till seven or eight, you need to get the
word back home or wherever you left that float plan.
That you're going to be late, and if you can't
get through on a cell phone, then you should call

(49:59):
the coast Guard ask them if they would relay a
call to your well going or your person that's going
to be looking at the clock so they don't freak
out and start calling the coast Guard and you know,
start looking for you. They the coast Guard will be
happy to keep track of you and happy to pass

(50:21):
along a message, you know, And that's a whole lot
easier than starting out a search, which gets really expensive
real quick and moves assets to areas that don't necessarily
need to be there. If you have a garment in reach,
you know, you can set up that to where you

(50:41):
can call home, you can call the coast Guard. The
coast Guard phone number for in reach for a if
you were going to talk to them is seven to
seven four nine zero eight two two eight. That's a
self that's a phone type number seven to seven four

(51:02):
none zero eight two two eight. You can program in
that that into your inReach like right now, yeah, and
be able to say if you need it, yeah, in
case you need it, and then you don't have to
type and dinnern thing in when it's three to five
and I'm below and twenty.

Speaker 1 (51:16):
You know, good stuff, Jimmy, I'm up against the clock, buddy,
great stuff, great stuff.

Speaker 10 (51:21):
All right, brother, thanks a lot for the time for
the Coast Guard of Zoli and Saint Pete Jim Pogle,
be safe out there.

Speaker 1 (51:26):
Nobody better, Nobody better. My friend that has brought to
you by our good friends that visit Saint Pete Clearwater.
We got the Mad Snooker Captain Dave Palmerlou and our
good friend Mike Measure from Tampa Bayed Boarding Clays, both
up here on the other side. We'll be back talking
fishing the bartell Ford Real Animals Radio Show. Welcome back
seven twenty six here at the iHeartMedia Empire. Let's try

(51:48):
to get a couple of these calls in here quick.
Let's go to the Mad Snooker Dave Palmlou. Hopefully you'll
be joining us Tuesday night here the twenty eighth, This Tuesday,
coming up OC's he Roade House. This is going to
be our guest. Don't want to mess Yeah, how are you?
My friend?

Speaker 11 (52:07):
Good? I'll definitely be there. If I'm not, I'm I'm
up the creek with no paddle.

Speaker 1 (52:12):
We look forward to seeing anybody.

Speaker 11 (52:15):
Yeah's you two giants after me? That's bad news. But yeah,
we're going to be giving away that for our shirt shripness.
One lucky person there or unlucky. I'm not sure which.

Speaker 1 (52:26):
I'm lucky. What I meant by I.

Speaker 11 (52:30):
Can I think you said somebody catching the same fish
more than once. And I caught the same like thirty
plus pounds snook five years in a row. And after
the last time I caught it never I never saw
it again.

Speaker 1 (52:40):
Crazy, probably moved.

Speaker 10 (52:41):
I hope.

Speaker 11 (52:42):
I hope I didn't. I hope I didn't die. But
I handled it really easy. But yeah, I'm looking forward
to this. And we were out last night throwing that
little little uh cousin it thing that I showed you
in the video, and basically it's you're just catching snunk
with the kingfish lure.

Speaker 1 (53:00):
It's crazy. Yeah, Yeah, you just dip.

Speaker 11 (53:03):
If you dip that thing, whip it past them, and
the crank it at a sporadic rate. Don't move the rod,
just keep the tip low and go and slam and
you catch them one after another after another. And we
got like fifty last night on them.

Speaker 2 (53:15):
But in the water to give it weight because you're
throwing basically like a sea witch.

Speaker 11 (53:21):
Yeah, you just dip it in the water and adds
a little weight, and then you put a you can
put a single hook or a barblous like size four
treble hook behind it, crush the barbs and you just
whip it past them and then put the tip low
and come through at a very fast, sporadic rate and
they just stump it. But it's cheating. I mean, it's like, basically,
it is cheating. It's too easy.

Speaker 10 (53:42):
You know.

Speaker 11 (53:42):
People ask me all the time is that thing? I go,
it's cousin.

Speaker 4 (53:44):
It a live squid.

Speaker 11 (53:45):
I've had people ask me, I saw, it's just a
live squid, babe, live squid. They just look at me
like I'm crazy. But yeah, I'm really looking forward to
Tuesday night and actually have a blast. I hope it's
a big crowd.

Speaker 1 (53:56):
It should be. We've had great crowds. I imagine Dave
Palmer is going to draw a big one, so it
should be. Try to get there early.

Speaker 11 (54:04):
My buddy asked me, do they do they they sell
food there? I go, I think they sell food there.

Speaker 1 (54:09):
Great food, ice, cold beer. It's perfect. It's a great setup.

Speaker 11 (54:14):
Absolutely. How do we how do we donate to this
unfortunate young man.

Speaker 1 (54:17):
It's on the the link is on the Facebook, uh page,
on the live stream at Real Animals and at Hubbards.
That's the best way to do it. Yeah, yeah, take
care of that right now. Any any little thing you
guys can give again. Uh, you know, tragic story there
coming on. We're going to talk about it again tomorrow
morning as well, So appreciate that. David, you the man.
I'm up against the clock here, but uh, we'll see

(54:39):
you Tuesday night. Thanks you buddy, the best, absolute legend. Cousin, cousin, listen,
looking forward to hearing more about that. I'm telling you
I've had David several times as a speaker through the years.
They're always good. It's phenomenal. He's super entertaining, super energetic
morning for him. He loves what he does. Seven o'clock

(55:00):
he is, Yeah, exactly, all fresh. Breakfast with Dave, we
should have called it breakfast at occ with Dave Pomerlou.
We got Mike Mesra with Tampa Bay Sporting plays up
on the other side. Hopefully we'll hear from you as well.
One eight nine, six, nine, nine three five two. We'll
be back. Welcome back, seven thirty six. Here at the

(55:21):
iHeartMedia Empire. Let's go to the phones here, let's check
in with h our good friend, Mike Mezra Tampa Bay
Sporting Clays. Michael, how are you, buddy?

Speaker 9 (55:32):
Hey guys, Good morning, Dylan, what's up?

Speaker 1 (55:34):
Man?

Speaker 9 (55:35):
Great great section, man, great great clips.

Speaker 1 (55:38):
Thanks.

Speaker 9 (55:40):
Yeah, you guys are doing a great job. You know
when you were talking about that tragic accidents, So sad,
I'm gonna pop on as well and uh and do
something about that. We just had. It's so funny. It
was just kind of going, wow.

Speaker 11 (55:52):
It's crazy.

Speaker 9 (55:53):
We just like three weeks ago, we just did a
tournique class and everything at the shooting club. I was
concerned about the exact same thing. You know, things just happen.
Obviously we're around guns, and you know, something happens that
happens quickly. So we ended up getting a class done
for all my range officers and everybody in the office about,

(56:14):
you know, how to do the tourni kits correctly. You know,
your guy was right, some of the stuff that you
get is just junk and it just doesn't work right.
And went through about you know, I just didn't realize
you can use the sock or use whatever you can
to plug the hole up. And oh, just I mean
I just learned so much and it was it was awesome.
So that's probably not a bad idea. You guys have

(56:35):
got so many listeners that, I mean, everybody needs to
learn how to do that, because you're right, something happens
to you or somebody else, they need to know what
to do. So that's a great idea. If you guys
want some context, I can put you in touch with
this lady that does it.

Speaker 5 (56:47):
She's amazing.

Speaker 9 (56:48):
Yeah, yeah, it's like a thirty to forty five minute class.

Speaker 1 (56:52):
Yeah, that'd be great. And you know, think about this.
And again, if you're just listening to the show because
you haven't changed the station yet in your vehicles, think
about it. If I mean you could roll up on
a car accident though, I mean seriously, I mean just it.
You know, it could happen twenty minutes from now, fifteen
minutes from now. You can roll up on a car
accident where somebody needs this stuff. And do you know

(57:12):
how to handle that situation? Do you have you know,
I mean, what do you do the first one on
the scene, they need care immediately. I mean, you know,
it just can't hurt. It's just good stuff to know.

Speaker 9 (57:23):
Yeah, and yeah, you've got a small window to do that. Yeah,
so anyway, if you want some help on that, just
let me know. Yeah, everything's going great. I haven't talk
to you guys in a while, you know, I got
to catch up with Ben not long ago. Yeah, looking
forward to just the next couple of weeks. The weather's
been great, just awesome for shooting.

Speaker 1 (57:40):
You know.

Speaker 9 (57:40):
We changed around some courses, messed around, messed ut with
a bunch of those traps, and we've got a new
generation shoot this morning that I'm pulling in for now.
And we got the Big Frenchies, Big Brothers, Big Sister
shoot coming up in a couple of weeks. And yeah,
I just have a lot on the books. But yeah, everybody,
you know, come on by the courses.

Speaker 1 (58:00):
They're great.

Speaker 9 (58:01):
You know, I've got my range officers that are here
to help everybody through it. And just yeah, just really good.
Good to be back, and you know, I'm looking forward
to seeing you guys soon.

Speaker 1 (58:10):
Yes, sir, we got the Children's Home shoot coming up.
We'll be talking about that, a big event. I'll be
out there I'm seeing that again, and Beth and I'll
be out there shooting, and I'm going to try to
do some shooting before then, so I don't do quite
as lousy in that event as I normally do.

Speaker 9 (58:25):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, let's shoo and I get together about
this children a little bit before.

Speaker 1 (58:29):
Yeah, we need to, Yeah, we need to. We need
to talk about it now. I think we're February again.
I think early March.

Speaker 9 (58:35):
Well it was March, but they I think they might
have moved it a little bit. But I don't have
the date off.

Speaker 1 (58:39):
I don't either. I don't either, but I'll get together
before then, for sure. Yeah, let's do it and ramp
that thing up. I'm gonna get a bunch of we're
gonna have a bunch of Captain stuff to give away.
I'm gonna have some of my guys donating some trips,
and we're gonna ramp that thing up and give it
a real fishy kind of spin. It's uh, it's an
uh uh, it's it's It's been the General Norman Schwartze
Car off shoot for many many years benefiting the Children's Home,

(59:02):
and I can't think of a greater man to you know,
honor than you know, General Norman Schwartz Golf and and
those of you who don't know all the great things
he did, please google it because there's a ton of
it there. But uh, it's a great event and it
benefits a children's home, which is a great organization. There's
a lot of great events out there if you just
want to go shoot and and do some great charity stuff.

(59:25):
Tam Bay Sporting Clays has got it going on. There's
great events going on all the time for great process.
So you've got a lot, Yeah, you dot a lot.

Speaker 9 (59:31):
I'm looking forward to seeing you guys on too. I'm
gonna try to make Dave's deal on Tuesday. I think
years ago. You're you're probably right. He probably is still
up from last ye he's still up.

Speaker 1 (59:42):
No, yeah, he's still up right now. He's just going
to bed now for sure. I got the machine.

Speaker 9 (59:47):
I know he doesn't remember me, but I gotta tell
you it was it was a triple of life.

Speaker 1 (59:50):
I don't know about that. He remembers a lot. He
might remember you, so I don't.

Speaker 9 (59:55):
I don't think it's that crazy back then.

Speaker 1 (59:57):
Whatever.

Speaker 9 (59:58):
Yeah, all right, guys, thanks, great shows, see Y'allsone.

Speaker 1 (01:00:02):
Bay Sporting Clays. We appreciate you, Mike. Great place to go.
It's unbelievable out there. Great place and go out there.
This is the time of year when you can be
out there all day just chilling and shooting clays. It's awesome.
Let's check in with Cat Ray, markham Ray, how are
you this morning?

Speaker 5 (01:00:18):
Good morning, Mike morning, Dylan, Hi, this morning, Good buddy.
I'll tell you Mike's got a class act out there
Tampa Bay Sporting Plays. I've been out there a number
of different times. I found something really interesting about that place.
I was one of the last the last time was out.
It was one of the last shoots of the day,
and it's just starting to get a little bit dark,

(01:00:41):
you know. And there must have been a hundred deer
that came out of nowhere all around the surrounding area.

Speaker 2 (01:00:49):
That's why Mahoney's not about back.

Speaker 1 (01:00:50):
Yeah, that's why we keep Mahoney away from that exactly.

Speaker 5 (01:00:53):
Yeahonie, Mahoney's over there loading butt shot and anyway, but
who was it shoot? It was the man Snooker just
mentioned something here a few minutes ago that kind of
touched an old memory back here in Neil in the
dust storm throwing that kind of like a sea witch.

(01:01:15):
I think, Dylan, you said sea witch, but he calls
it cousin. It back gosh, probably forty thirty forty years ago,
when I first moved down Tarrasea, I was testing some
lights for underwater lights, hydroglow I think it was or
something like that, and I stuck it off seawall and
came back out in the middle of the night, and

(01:01:37):
there had to be thousands of baitfish women around a circle.
In the edges of the light you could see silhouettes
of snook, and in the light you could see trout.
But I sat and just watched it for a while,
and there'd be my moments, like ten second barrage of
an attack. Every fish in there was pouncing on all

(01:02:00):
these bait fish. But as I sat there and looked
in the light, looked a little more carefully. Most of
them were scale sardines. But I saw something blowing through
the light. I'm going, what the heck is that. I
took out a bait net, chucked it over the area
there pulled in a bunch of little baby squid. I

(01:02:21):
mean these these things were maybe three or four inches long,
and that was when I started thinking, well, all all
the fresh water guys that were throwing two bloorers forever,
and you know, I went, I went to some bait
and tagle shops, started looking for some two bloors and
you get something either in glow earl something like that.

(01:02:43):
It looks natural like a squid, and you will catch
the fool out of snook. They love it for whatever reason.
But this week I took Gina with the FWR her
eye out with a new girl that knew one of
the new biologists over there at w R. I just

(01:03:06):
kind of get her acquainted with the area and catch
some catch some fish. She caught her first snook Sharon
with this new girl. And I swear some of the
time I thought we were like fishing in the land
of the Little Ecusians, because we had maybe an eight
inch red fish. We had a miniature gag grouper that

(01:03:28):
was probably about ten inches that a cormorant swallowed. We
had dozens of undersized trout, I mean very small trout,
and that got us honest conversation about trout. And you
know Venus sitting there like, well, what do you think
you didn't get to go to the symposium. But I
went to one of the meetings here in Saint Pete

(01:03:51):
and they were talking about, well, what what what do
you think you'd do differently with with the trout, you know,
I said, well, be honest with you, I would open
a season on corn ramps.

Speaker 2 (01:04:03):
Ay man, I was hoping you were going to say that,
because we have a huge problem with it offshore. They
are smart and they sit on the bow the problem.

Speaker 5 (01:04:09):
But yeah, we had nine corn rants following us. We
couldn't release anything without them getting it. Yeah, Ray, you're
your phone.

Speaker 1 (01:04:19):
Something's going on with your phone hook up there, buddy,
I gotta let you go up. But great call, great call.
Hopefully something that's clicking. It's just really weird. So I'm
not sure if it's on our end of your end.
But hopefully we'll see you Tuesday night at OCC.

Speaker 5 (01:04:35):
I'll see you tuesday night.

Speaker 1 (01:04:36):
All right, buddy. Thanks. He's he's so knowledgeable, it's crazy.
He spends so much time in the water. He's been
doing it so long. And that comrade thing is a major,
huge problem, major issue. Yeah, they they will. They'll sit
on the roof of the vessels when we leave the
party boats and uh, they'll like you can see as
the boat's heading out of the pass, all of a sudden,

(01:04:57):
cormorants descend and then land on the roof and they
ride out with us, and anything that gets released they
eat it, Yeah, almost immediately. Yeah, that's horrible.

Speaker 2 (01:05:07):
Yeah, and it's just killing the juvenile popping population. You
see it in the bay all the time.

Speaker 1 (01:05:12):
We got porpoises rolling up, just sitting right next to
our boats. We have too many critters. That's been the herd.
Let's go to Gabe in Central Florida. Gabe, how are you?

Speaker 9 (01:05:22):
It was very broad Hey, good morning captains.

Speaker 1 (01:05:25):
Thanks buddy. What's going on? Man? Good morning to.

Speaker 2 (01:05:26):
You, Good morning.

Speaker 12 (01:05:28):
I just wanted to talk about the first aid talk
this morning. It's near and dear to my heart. I'm
actually a career firefighter paramedic over twenty years here in
Central Florida.

Speaker 1 (01:05:38):
Nice.

Speaker 12 (01:05:39):
Thanks, lifelong sports Thank you, lifelong sportsman and a big
fan of the show. So really happy to hear this
talk about first aid. You know, unfortunate tragedy for that
young man.

Speaker 6 (01:05:51):
I hope good donations.

Speaker 12 (01:05:53):
Coming to help him out. But I wanted to share
that there is free training available in many many areas.
Check for anyone that wants training. Look up your local hospitals,
look up your local fire departments, and your Red Cross.
A lot of these resources offer free first aid training

(01:06:16):
and by legitimate you know, real deal people who's been
doing this line of work for a long time. So
you know, I used to teach that kind of stuff.
I've been in this game over twenty years, getting close
to retirement and hopefully efficient a lot more. But I
just wanted to share that to maybe try to get
some guys who like, Hey, I'd love to have this training,
but I can't afford this course from you know, these

(01:06:39):
people that are charging a couple hundred bucks for a class.
So there are free ways to get the training.

Speaker 9 (01:06:44):
Some of these people that have these.

Speaker 12 (01:06:45):
Classes, they're great classes, and you know they really deep
dive into you know, specialty stuff. And if you can
take those classes, but if you're you know, need some
more affordable option, check your hospitals, your local fire department,
and your local Red Cross and see what they're given
for free.

Speaker 1 (01:07:03):
Hey, we appreciate you listening. Thank you for your service
to our community and h that's a great call. We
appreciate that very much. Gabe. Thanks for being a listener pal,
thank you having all right, buy buddy good stuff, Man,
good stuff. I love our listeners.

Speaker 2 (01:07:17):
And really ironically we're sitting in here on the TV,
I thought the same thing. Yeah, they're talking about an
infant CPR. And that was one thing that when we
had kids, scared me is to death of like, oh,
what happens at the baby chokes? And they offered all
these free classes to first time parents with how to
do CPR and what's watch for and all the different

(01:07:38):
warning signs. And we were at Bayfront's baby place like
every other weekend when my wife was pregnant with our
first kid, with all these free classes. So they definitely
do a lot of resources out there. You just got
to look them up.

Speaker 1 (01:07:51):
Yeah, you gotta want to dig in and and find it.
It's good stuff, for sure, good stuff. And again, you know,
we're glad that the story of this this young Panamanian kid,
great mate down there at a great resort with a
tragic accident. We're glad that it's stirring these thoughts. It's
the reason we shared the story. As soon as I

(01:08:12):
saw it, I wanted to bring it to the air.
So and again we'll be sharing the story again tomorrow
on the Teamahoney Company Real Animals Radio Show seven to
nine AM on ninety five three WDAE and AM six twenty.
We're gonna be back here wrapping things up on the
other side the bartell Ford Real Animals Radio Show, We'll

at the Friendly Fisherman. Want to thank the great Derek
du Bo's. Want to thank Jim Lucas for joining us
in the show there from Texas and sharing the story
kind of briefly. We'll be able to deep dive into
it a little more tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (01:09:41):
Wait, he was in Texas. In Texas. Oh wow, that
was early for him.

Speaker 1 (01:09:45):
Yeah, I just happened to read. I just dropped a
text into him and Bo Bo might be fishing this morning,
but just to see if we could get one of
them on the air to kind of talk about the charity.

Speaker 2 (01:09:55):
Well, Bo's in Panama, so he's three hours behind us.

Speaker 1 (01:09:58):
I don't I don't know if both still in Panama.
He's back here. I talked to him the other day,
so I don't think he's in Panama anymore.

Speaker 2 (01:10:03):
He goes back, is only an hour behind, right, animal
as a whole different.

Speaker 1 (01:10:07):
Yeah, that's a different, no doubt so. But uh, you
know again, the the link to donate to that young
young mate is up on the Facebook pages at Hubbards
and Real Animals, So h if you have it in
your heart to do so, that would be great don't
forget OCC Roadhouse this Tuesday night, seven to nine pm.

(01:10:28):
The Snooker, the man himself, the Mad Snooker is going
to be there, Dave Popmas. It's going to be really good.
He's given away a four hour trip. We've got Angele Cooler's,
bulbet Rods, all the normal goodies to give away, plus
great food, absolutely killer atmosphere, ice cold beer.

Speaker 2 (01:10:46):
And awesome times.

Speaker 1 (01:10:47):
Yeah, awesome times. It'll be We already heard Ray Markham
is going to be there, Mike Measures talking about showing up.
I'd be surprised if we don't see uh, mister mahoney
as well. So you never know who you're going to
run into. And Tampa Bay Fishing Community at the OCC Roadhouse,
So come on out and join us. Is going to
be a good, good time.

Speaker 2 (01:11:08):
So yeah, I don't want to miss out. And then
there's gonna be a lot of free time, free gifts,
and a lot of free knowledge. Yeah, we're going to
learn a lot and we're looking forward to tonight or
tomorrow night. Excuse me, the live stream show. Sorry, I'm
a little out of it, a little ahead, yeah, a
little head of the ballgame. Seafood Fest weekend it all
just melds together. But looking forward to the live show
tomorrow night, seven thirty pm, don't forget to tune in

(01:11:30):
chance to win fifteen hundred dollars in free trips, and
looking forward to a great little weather window coming up
here Monday, Tuesday window Wednesday. Things are looking really good
and a great opportunity to capitalize on that rare opportunity
this time of year when the wind's not blown.

Speaker 1 (01:11:47):
Yeah, very rare.

Speaker 2 (01:11:49):
Yeah, So hopefully you'll be able to get out there
and take advantage on a quarter moon. Tides are a
little slow, but look for those chilock points, look for
those areas where the winds helping move that water and
you'll on that ambush point where those fish are ready
to chew.

Speaker 1 (01:12:03):
Yeah, the bite on the beaches is going to slow
down a little bit as a lot of those fish
are transitioning. But there's still a lot of fish in
the passes. As we talked about earlier, John's Pass still
got a lot of fish in it. Bunchs is passed,
still got a lot of fish in it. I mean
there's a lot of passes here on the west coast
of Florida. We can still catch fish there's a lot
of fish staged up all the way from in front

(01:12:25):
of the passes, like you know, along Cockroach and all
those areas to all the way up the rivers. I
had last night, Beth and I took the eighteen ko
out kind of stretched out a little bit, went for
a little sunset cruise and there was a lot of
people fishing the river and everybody I kept passing. I
was thinking, smart, Smart, it's windy. There's places you can

(01:12:45):
get out of that wind and still really really catch
good fish this time of year. The Inner Coastal Waterway,
the ICWS, some of the dock lines, you're gonna have
probably pretty low water this morning. With that east northeast
wind blowing hard, especially all night, it's going to blow
a lot out of that water out of here. That's
the same conditions we had yesterday. But those guys that
found a little bit deeper water, found the right structure,

(01:13:07):
had a pretty good bite yesterday. So still can get
it on. There's bait everywhere. Still. That water temp is
perfect for catching bait. It's on the grass, it's on
your markers, it's on the bridges. So you know, just
be safe while you're going to to and from to
you know, not get your stuff in trouble out.

Speaker 2 (01:13:25):
There, Yes, sir, good time to get out there.

Speaker 1 (01:13:27):
Yeah, no doubt about it. Again, Derek Debo's great job.
